How Can A User Buyer System Be Used For Enhance Personal...
Research Question: How can a user buyer system be used to enhance personal purchasing decisions?
Sub question: Can data mining be used to analyze consumer behaviors and preferences in order to
satisfy purchasing decision?
Literature Review
Presently, the online shopping has become increasing in today s market. Many consumers turn to
use the internet for shopping, as a result the online recommender systems have realized for
facilitating consumer needs and their interests based on previous shopping behaviors. According to
Jiang, Shang, and Liu, Y. (2010) the recommender system is defined as a decision tool that designs

However, these techniques lead recommender systems face with the important problems such as
sparsity, precision, and scalability problem. Thus, applying data miningtechniques to the
recommender systems is concerned as a solution for solve this problem (Deuk et al., 2011). Its
capability could play a significant role for analyzing and predicting valuable customer knowledge,
for instance, purchase behaviors, customer preferences, and interests. Also, then using that
knowledge for suggesting products/services that suit and satisfy customers (Kumar Guptaa and
Guptab, 2010).
2.Data mining There are various techniques involve in the recommender systems. The popular one
that is concerned to solve the existing problems is data mining techniques. Many recommender
systems implement data mining technique as a method to analyze and discover significant
consumer knowledge. Mohammed et al. (2013) and Kumar Guptaa and Guptab (2010) state that
data mining is defined as a systematical process of exploring and discovering valuable knowledge
from large volume of data in data repositories. Data mining aims to extract and disclose hidden vital
patterns from data. It has potential to collect relevant data in large volume of database and data
warehouse. Additionally, the data mining can use to anticipate future customer trends and help
business to gain competitiveness (Liao, Chen, and Lin, 2011).

Pike Fly Research Paper
The Double Bunny Pike Fly is an extremely effective fly for northern pike. There are many
different colour and tying variations of the bunny leech. This style in the color red works well
in my part of the world. Pike seem to have a thing for the colour red, it triggers their aggression.
1) These are the materials I use for my double bunny pike fly. Comparable materials can be used
but the action may vary. 2) Secure your hook in the vice and tie in your red thred. Wrapping the
full length of the hook shank will create some friction on the lead wire and other material and keep
it from moving on the shank. A large hook with a wide gap is a necessity for the large pike mouth.
3) Coil on your Lead wire and make wraps to secure it in place. 4) Tie in your pearl poly flash
behind the lead wire to help with the tapper of the body.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
8) Wrap your pearl poly flash up the hook shank and secure in place. 9) Secure down the front of
the bunny strip. Strip some fur at the tie in point to keep it from slipping out. Make sure to leave
enough space for your deer hair collar and head. 10) Tie in a mixture of some crystal flash and
flashabou to and some flash to the body. 11) Tie in Grizzly Heckle feathers to both sides of the
fly, extend it just beyond the bunny fur. 12) Grab a clump of red deer hair. There is no need to
stack it. Tie in the hair and spin it around the hook shank. 13) Build a head and taper the head to
the eye. Try pulling back the hair to see what the fly would look like wet and base your thickest
point of the taper off that. 14) Add a holographic eye and UV clear finish the head. And the fly is
complete; now try to catch some pike with it. Remember, Pike have sharp teeth so don t forget to
tie a few of these when heading out on the water. Also, bring the right leader like a Rio Toothy

Morality In International Relations
International relations have always been a very important topic. Knowing and understanding the
history of international relations is vital to learning how it has evolved and how we can handle
it today and in the future. However today our historical egoism, or the idea that we believe we
are better and more advanced than those in the past can blind us. In reality, history is a bit more
complicated. We often ask if it is a never ending march of progress or one conflict after another?
The best we can do is learn and try to create a better future. With that said, we will be looking at two
important factors in international relations: power and morals. It has been a widely debated issue
whether it is better to use power or morals in international relations. Some argue that power is the
answer to international relations, and others believe that morals are the answer. In the end, several
theories, authors, and examples can lead us closer to the aptness of international relations.
To begin with, many have argued that power is what maintains a balance between nations and
what can also lead to war. First, let s look at two major powers in the world: Europe and United
States. Their international relation structures are very different. America is more realist than
Europe in the way they use, desire, and view power. Europe s perspective is more diplomatic and
sophisticated. Europe tends to turn away from power and focuses on a creating laws and rules that
world should follow. When an

Megan s Law Case
History Megan s Law is named after a girl, Megan Kanka, who at only 7 years old was
kidnapped, sexually assaulted then murdered in cold blood. The man who did this had a prior
conviction for sexual assault. The murderer, Jesse Timmendequas moved across the street from
Megan and her family. He was sentenced to death but never got put to death because on
December 17, 2007 the New Jersey Legislature abolished the death penalty. His new sentence was
life in prison without any possibility of parole. However, they did not have the proper resources to
know about his criminal history. Megan s Law is a legislation that exists in the United States. It

The importance of protecting the safety of the public and most importantly, the children is a lot
higher than the offenders right to privacy. According to a study done by Expert Law, the biggest
raised concern is the fear of vigilantism. That is, law enforcement undertaken without legal
authority by a self appointed group of people. The fear was if neighbors learned about a sex offender
s presence in their neighborhood and decided to force them out or cause physical harm, which is
illegal. Violent acts against offenders are uncommon.
Megan s Law comes with the disadvantage that it discourages many sex offenders from
participating in the registry due to the fear factor of them being attacked or looked at differently in
their neighborhood. Even though it is a felony offense to fail to register on Megan s Law, around
20% of offenders do not comply with the registration requirement. The United Kingdom does not
have public disclosure laws. A study was performed in 2001 that stated a very high 97% compliance

Tort And Business Law Essay
Law of Tort and Business Contracts Introduction According to law, tort occurs when a person
fails to observe duty imposed on one by law, to ensure there is no injury to a determinate person.
In most cases, the remedies for a tort are in the form of unliquidated damages for instance
different amounts of compensation, which are determined by the courts of law. The law seeks
to compensate the aggrieved party, unlike the criminal cases where the offenders are punished
according to law. However, certain cases in tort fall both in the civil and criminal law brackets.
Examples include assault and battery. The tort of negligence is addressed in this article, because
of its influence compared to the other torts of law. The liability attracted by negligence comes
from a basis of duty to practice reasonable care (Geistfeld, 2011, pg 144). First case analysis:

The Environment Is A System Of Living Things
An environment is a system of living things. The Earth is our environment. The capacity of our
environment to offer space, to reap nutrition and to fund energy are all limited. Food, water and
other basic assets are strained by the escalating requests of our persistently developing population.
We rely on these limited resources for our survival, yet we are quickly extending our populationas
though they were infinite. This reality is at the focal point of our environmental issues. Despite the
fact that the number of inhabitants on earth has been escalating in a continuous manner since 1400,
the most emotional increment has taken place in more recent decades. Overpopulationis a standout
amongst the most concerning troubles in present times. It is an undesirable condition where the
number of existing human population exceeds the carrying capacity of Earth. (1) There is a natural
point of confinement to the population size that can be reasonably maintained by an environment.
Overpopulation is the undesirable condition where the amount of the existing human population
exceeds this natural limit and eventually devours our planet with the request for more nutrition
from less land and water supplies. As the total population develops, enhancing expectations for
everyday comforts and improving living standards without destroying the Earth is a global
challenge. Our world populationis growing at about eighty million people a year, which equates to
an average of two hundred and

having technology in your hands at all times has made its way into the classroom also. This
clearly started with the use of a computer and being able to find what you want quickly instead of
having to go through a very large library to find one important sentence to use for your essay.

thing for these students. With these numbers growing so quickly there has to be a way to help all
of these students learn quickly and lots even though their disability gives them trouble doing this.
With the numbers of children with disabilities means more kinds of disabilities so he assistive
technology is also made for the different types.. Lots of different softwares that can help deaf,
mute, physical disabilities, and even specific ones like autism or down syndrome. Word prediction
software is something that can be easily put on computers to help students reduce the number of
keystrokes that are required to type words and provides assistance with spelling for students of
various ability levels (Hasselbring 107). This incredible software gives these students the chance to
do written documents. These students will try not to use large words and to think create because
they do not want to get upset about what the can not do. The software uses their words to create
their vocabulary instead of them using the easiest kind of words to write. It s such an amazing use
of technology because it makes the student with the disability be able to do the same thing a
mainstream student does. Most mainstream students are able to easily communicate with teachers
and other classmates but special needs have trouble doing this. With these technologies it helps

Difference Between San And Nas
There are two main types of network based storage, storage area networks (SAN) and network
attached storage (NAS). Choosing between a SAN and a NAS system depends on user s needs.
In fact, each technology certainly has its own advantages as well as disadvantages. A storage
area network (SAN) is a dedicated high speed network used to connect and manage shared
storage devices. A SAN network makes it easier for all serves to access unlimited number of
storage devices through a LAN or WAN without using any processing power. By this way, there
is no need to have storage devices directly attached to each serves. SAN commonly has excellent
speed, so it is primarily used for high performance data storage. There are, however, some
downsides of SAN,

1.0 Introduction
According to Stephen P. Robbins and Mary Coulter in their book titled Management, bureaucracy
can be defined as a form of organisation characterised by division of labour, a clearly defined
hierarchy, detailed rules and regulations, and impersonal relationship.
Bureaucracy usually gives a negative meaning in life. When it comes to bureaucracy, automatically
people would imagine things like red tape, filled form with too many information and too detail,

It means, there must be no individual objectives are allowed. All people must follow the
organization objectives. In other word, staff members are free of any external responsibilities and
constraints so that they are able to attend to their duties in a fair and objective way. For example,
work is separated from residence in order to separate personal duty and objective of the
organization.
2.0.6 Lifelong Career Commitment Weber stressed that employment in the organization should be
seen as a career for officials. An official is a full time employee, and anticipate a lifelong career.
After an introduction period, the employee is given tenure, which protects the employee from
arbitrary dismissal. The organization should create a better working scheme such as clear
promotion route and good remuneration scheme. Max Weber viewed these bureaucratic elements
as solutions to problems or defects within earlier and more traditional administrative systems.
Likewise, he viewed these elements as parts of a total system, which, combined and instituted
effectively, would increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the administrative structure.
3.0 Critics toward Max Weber Theories of Bureaucracy There are various critics from public
administration philosophers toward bureaucracy theory generated by max Weber.
3.0.1 Rigid Rules and Uncreative Weber lined out that the characteristics of his theory on

surfactant replacement therapy in the treatment of respiratory distress syndrome has proven to

These include maternal hypertension, gestational diabetes excluding classes D, F, and R,
intrauterine growth restriction, preterm labor, and drug abuse. The neonate high risk factors are
birth prior to 32 weeks, weighing less then 1300 grams and laboratory data suggesting poor lung
maturity discussed later. (Bower, Barnhart, betiti, Hendon, Masi lynch, Wilson, 825) The highest
risk factor for RDS type I is an insulin dependent diabetic mother, because boluses of insulin
injections severely decrease the fetus production of surfactant. (Porth, 1306)) Chronic hypoxic
events during pregnancy associated with mild to moderate maternal hypertension have shown
however to sometime accelerate fetal lung maturity and surfactant production leading to a decrease
in neonatal respiratory complications. (Kim, Vohr, Oh, 39) This due to cortical steroid secretion
that stimulate an increased production of surfactant in response to the stresses of hypoxic events.
(Porth, 1306) The symptoms of oncoming RDS may at first not be present in a fetus greater then 28
weeks since they have produced enough surfactant to thrive outside of uterine life for a short time.

Context In The Old Testament
Context is the influence of circumstances around a setting, event, or situation. In our understanding
of the Old Testament, context has played a tremendous role. Whether it is literary, geographical,
or social, each one strongly affected the writing of the Old Testament. Artifacts found from the
time of the Old Testament, such as old tools or early forms of writing, like the Mesha Inscription
and the Merneptah Stele, also provide context, helping our understanding of the way in which the
Israeli people lived. Many of the stone tools discovered show us that humans have lived in the
Palestinian region for millions of years; however, the tools found of the Israelites show us they
settled on the hills of Palestine instead of on the Coastal plain.

information with the public. One of the 75,000 would share this information during the reel

Sometimes instead of a person delivering that message they would produce small feature to get the

Children s Socialization And Control Of Children Before...
1.What role did the family play in the socialization and control of children before the 1800s?
During the Middle Ages and through the 1500s and 1600s, the family served as the primary unit
of social control. Within the family, power was typically vested in the father, and the mother and
the children were expected to obey his commands. However, the nuclear family of today was
relatively rare in the middle ages. Rather, a typical family consisted of an extended group of related
people and other individuals who were not related. The father, particularly if he was a merchant,
might spend considerable time away from the home. High mortality rates meant that either parent
might have died and been replaced by a stepparent. In addition, servants, apprentices, and
journeymen sometimes lived in the household, and neighbors were often present. Consequently,
childrenwere exposed to a large number of adults who played a role in their socialization and
control.
2.What role did children play in the colonization of the New World? Children were counted on to
play an important role in the expansion of European influence and became an integral part of
plans to colonize the New World. Indeed, for some people, the colonization of the New World
was viewed as an opportunity for children to be involved in productive work. Merchants saw

The Scarlet Letter By Hugues Merle
The Scarlet Letter (Figure 1) painted by Hugues Merle in 1861 depicts the novel The Scarlet
Letter by Nathanial Hawthorne. Hester Prynne, an adulteress forced to wear the letter A upon
her bosom forever, becomes an outcast from the community with her daughter, Pearl. Merle was
often known for painting scenes of mothers and children. He illustrates the scene of Hester and
Pearl sitting in the town square as part of her punishment. The townspeople walk by, pointing
fingers and making shrewd remarks. Merle s painting, his biography, and other renditions of the
novel and painting will be later discussed. Hugues Merle (1823 1881) was a talented French
painter during the middle of the nineteenth century who fit into the impressionist category as he
painted sweet and tender genre themes (Schiller Bodo). He was born in Saint Marcellin and

Lord Byron, one of the major poets of England during the Romantic Period (1785 1830), epitomized
the essence of this movement of literature because Romanticism was flourishing in the arts. In

This poem supposedly was written to praise his cousin Mrs. Wilmot, who was still in mourning
and was wearing a black, sequin dress, which contrasted to her youthful beauty. The reason, The
poem uses images of light and darkness interacting to describe the wide spectrum of elements in
a beautiful woman s personality and looks ( She Walks in Beauty ). The poem was written on

The poem was originally written as lyrics of a song to be included in the Hebrew Melodies

subject as being possessed by beauty ( She Walks in Beauty ). This porem describes her internal,

The Movie Ava Kept Yelling Essay
Throughout the game, Ava kept yelling LUCA, STOP! and would become very frustrated when
Luca would try to hide with her or cheat. She was very annoyed by everything he did, and
thought he was very immature. At 9 years old, she didn t quite understand that 6 year olds aren t
always willfully disobedient, just not necessarily as cognitively advanced or as capable of
communicating all of their emotions. She judged Luca according to her standards of behavior
for her peers, rather than as a rising first grader. Later, she asks me if she was ever that annoying,
and when I tell her that yes, she was, she seems shocked. A couple of turns later, Chloe had still
not had to be the seeker. Ava began to pout and say that they had to take turns, and it was Chloe s
turn now. Chloe resisted, saying that she hadn t been tagged yet. Ava only insisted a couple more
times and then gave in, demonstrating an ability to put herself in Chloe s shoes. I was surprised
that she didn t make a bigger deal of it, because the other 9 year olds I have known would have
been very upset if they didn t get their way or they thought they were being treated unfairly.
Discussion of Observation 1 Throughout the observation period, I noticed that although Ava wasn t
the oldest, she spoke the most frequently. The other children generally let her take the lead because
she spoke the most loudly and with the shrillest voice. During a brief conflict with Chloe when Ava
wanted everyone to take turns being the

The third reason is that the phone costs 6000 euros and has absolutely no features and is

The fourth reason is that electronic brands all over the world is making their devises break after a

manufacturing failure that makes the phones break down I think its intentional that it happens.
The fifth reason is that it s not a smartphone, maybe some of old fashion business men would like

Worn Path Symbolism
In the short story A Worn Path, by Eudora Welty, Phoenix Jackson is a small old lady that is
overcoming the obstacles of life. She is figuring out that life has many different encounters to
overcome. Welty describes the physical and emotional encounters Jackson meets on her journey to
town and life. Welty describes how the character Jackson is a courageous woman that endures many
things through life, Welty also uses symbolism to show the true challenges that Jackson faces.
Welty uses symbols of nature numerous of times throughout the story.
First off, Phoenix Jackson is an old Negro woman, who faces the obstacles of life. She has troubles
on her path through town and life. She begins her path through the pinewoods. The path is like a
microcosm of a person s whole life. Sometimes things can be easy, and sometimes things can be
hard. Phoenix runs into obstacles which are harder than other. Life has many elements; some many
be dangerous, surprising, beautiful, and confusing. Phoenix Jackson faces some problems with her
memory. Up through pines, she said at length. Now down through the oaks. (Welty A Worn Path).
Through the story Welty uses the trees as a symbol of wisdom, strength, and endurance. The trees
help to tie the idea of the cycle of life and death. The cones dropped as light as feathers. (Welty A
Worn Path ). Sometimes through life things begin to fall down and sometimes things begin to
rebuild itself higher. Just like a tree loses its leaves and

Dear University Of Wisconsin Madison Admissions
Dear University of Wisconsin Madison Admissions,
Growing up a Caucasian, upper middle class child in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, I remember
feeling perplexed every time I visited my neighborhood grocery store. While the groceries in one
part of the store served a demographic population similar to my own, the other items catered to the
low income, predominately African American population located in the adjacent neighborhood.
My grocery store mirrored the demographic make up of my city, yet was not reflected in my
educational trajectory. My parents, like many financially secure families in my area, sent me to a
private college preparatory school to escape the deficiencies of the public school system in East
Baton Rouge Parish. While white ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A conversation ingrained in my memory involved two adolescent boys from San Antonio
Independent School District (SAISD). When asked about their future ambitions, one student
casually responded that he would go to prison like his father. The other expressed a desire to rise
above his inner city milieu, but had little sense his abilities or of his options. In stark contrast,
students from Alamo Heights, an affluent neighboring district, held ambitions to become doctors,
lawyers, and politicians, and demonstrated an understanding of the prerequisites for their desired
career path. The graduation rate of Alamo Heights stood at 98% while SAISD s graduation rate
lingered around 60%. The contrast between these two districts grows more disturbing when
considered through the lens of racial equality. While SAISD s population is 98% minority, the
Anglo population in Alamo Heights totals slightly over 55%. Yet, 74% of Alamo Heights graduates
achieve a four year college diploma, while only 4% percent of SAISD alumni attain a bachelor s
degree. An opportunity gap results from this discrepancy, ultimately proving detrimental to social
mobility.

It affects about 80% of people s daily lives. From being the greatest at videogames or the funniest
person on YouTube they have all consumed you and also how you live in your daily life. Our
generation of teenagers/young adults are becoming more and more lazy and dependent on
technology so there is no telling how much more lazy the next generation will be. I think
technology has made our generation of teens more ignorant, greedy, and lazy. As my parents
always say well when I was a kid we didn t have all those little fancy cell phones, televisions with
1000 channels or high tech computers back then all we had was a bike, ball, and our
imagination. And I ll just roll my eyes even though I know for a fact that each generation is just
fading more and more and depending on technology way too much. I wouldn t be surprised if
soon, people made chairs that will hover around to get a drink from the fridge or to take you to

Technology is taking over our world and no one is realizing this. Computers and cell phones are
good tools for everyone to use, but it doesn t need to be used for every little thing. Technology
can be useful it many ways like curing cancer or school work. It should be used is as a tool or for

Defending Pro-wrestling Essay
As people flip through the channels on Monday nights they pass over at least two different
professional wrestling shows. When people notice the wrestling the most common thing for
them to do is to keep flipping the channels. Why? Because the common view of professional
wrestling is that it is not real and it is stupid. Two years ago I thought the same thing about
professional wrestling, in fact I refused to watch it. During the summer of my junior year in high
school my boyfriend and I made a deal he would watch The Little Mermaid with me if I would

wrestlers have been injured doing these amp;#8220;fake ; moves. Two good examples are BretHart

about Owen Hart, who passed away this year while performing a routine entrance which involved

The Rise of Politically Partisan Infotainment

The Rise of Politically Partisan Infotainment
Consumers now have access to more information than in any other point in history, and are being
subjected to partisan news on a larger scale than ever before. Partisan news outlets, such as Fox
News and MSNBC tailor their broadcasts to appeal to the confirmation bias of their target
audiences. Each network not only chooses which stories to run based on the interest of their target
demographic, but also frames the facts in a way that leads consumers to believe that their own
beliefs, however factual, are correct, which aligns with a scientific principle known as confirmation

Before the shift to bias or partisan news, the U.S. was brought together by World War II.
Many people received their information only by newspaper or radio and there was a sense of pride
knowing that journalists were sharing truthful information with the public. Thussu (1998) said that
it is a journalists duty to explain the information they were providing and not indulge in cheap event
journalism. It was never good enough to throw our hands up in horror that people were dying ...
We had to work out why to chase the story back to its roots, and write about its origins fearlessly,
even if it turned out that the ultimate beneficiary of the people s suffering was a politician or a
proprietor who had power over your own livelihood, or even your own life. A journalist s right to

values of human society.
In the late 1950s and into the 1960s responsibility played a large role in how news was distributed.
Three television networks, ABC, CBS, and NBC, were among the outlets with formally trained
news anchors who brought forth a sense of unity in the country. But, as the years progressed and
people began to develop special interests, the ways news was relayed transformed (Turow, 1997, p.

Security Threats Of Small Business Accounting
Security Threats to Small Business Accounting
Small business accounting becomes increasingly difficult for owner/operators to handle personally
or delegate to untrained employees. As your business grows, accounting becomes more complex,
and savvy business owners often consider hiring a professional accounting service instead of one or
more employees to do the work. There are many advantages to doing so that include generating tax
savings, ensuring that reports are filed correctly and on time and getting guaranteed service when
an accountant or bookkeeper becomes incapacitated.
However, the biggest advantage of hiring professionals is their ability to identify and prevent
common security threats. Hiring professional accountants and certified computer security
specialists helps to prevent many common digital threats. When even the smallest hack or breach is
discovered or suspected, take advantage of fraud alerts and business identity protections services.
Remain security conscious, and make security practices an essential condition of employment for
your staff. The following categories of threats are easily overlooked but easy to remedy with
forethought and safe practices.

taking preventative measure to keep snow and ice off your roof, and should be done when it is
safe to do so based on the weather conditions. That s because snow can weigh a roof down and
cause leaks to occur. Buying an extendable roof rake will allow you to easily pull down snow
that has collected on the roof while safely on the ground. Make sure that you clean out the
gutters prior to the winter. Clogged gutters will not leave any room for water runoff to go, which
brings the snow and ice closer to your roof. Once ice gets underneath your shingles, it can cause

We Are Fascinated By Robots
People are fascinated by robots. Movies for many years have explored themes of humanity and
artificial intelligence, and at what point those two mix. Perhaps what is so interesting about these
films is the question humans have been asking themselves for thousands of years, what makes
something human? Or even, What makes someone sentient ? It s an intriguing thought. The movie,
I, Robot, asks this question, but it also explores something called the Three Laws , and several
moral theories. While perhaps it doesn t answer any of the queries it brings up, the film is at the
very least, curious and thought provoking. The movie I, Robot is set in the vaguely near future
where personal robots have been integrated into society. These robots are in most every household,
like the smart phones of today, and they are being designed to look increasingly human. While most
people in the movie consider these robots as laptops or iPods that is, a piece of machinery that
could do more harm or betray you than a toaster could a Detective Spooner regards them with
suspicion. Because of an car crash where a robot rescued him instead of a young girl, as the robot
calculated Spooner had a greater chance of survival, the Detective distrusts all robots. Throughout
the film, he is ridiculed for believing that robots could be dangerous. They are all programmed with
the Three Laws. Surely, with the Laws in place, nothing can go wrong.
Spooner then meets a robot called Sonny, who

Sherlock Holmes By Arthur Conan Doyle
To begin with, the first indispensable step in the research should be devoted to the Scottish writer
sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the creator of the famous Victorian detective Sherlock Holmes. The fact
that Conan Doyle was not the first detective writer is definitely worth mentioning. The founder of
the detective genre is considered to be the American writer Edgar Allan Poe. The story of detective
fictionoficially started in 1841 when Poe published his The Murders in the Rue Morgue (Kopley
31). This famous story established literary conventions which are used in detective fiction till the
present time. The main character of Poe`s novels, the Paris detective C. August Dupin, has become
a prototype of the detective image which does not stale even nowadays, and had a big influence on
Sherlock Holmes`s image (Schwartz 15).
Arthur Conan Doyle devoted his famous quotation to Poe: Each [of Poe s detective stories] is a
root from which a whole literature has developed... Where was the detective story until Poe
breathed the breath of life into it? (Dawn 323). The reference to Dupin`s character can be even
found in the first story of Sherlock book series A Study in Scarlet (1887) where Holmes mensions
Dupin when Watson tries to compare the two detectives: No doubt you think you are

In order to protect the Hellenistic cities not only had powerful fortifications, but were sometimes
divided into quarters, with their own defensive walls. Sometimes for the safety of the rural
population cities were filled with an additional many kilometer ring of fortress walls. The
acropolis was usually located on the hills, providing the possibility of defense, as in Priene. The
building materials were used basically the same as in the classical era marble, limestone, wood, raw
bricks, burned brick was used more often. It is important to note that the engineering and
construction essence of the structure began to push aside the architectural and artistic image of the
monument. The integrity and organic content of the classical works were gradually lost, but the
monuments began to influence more emotionally and powerfully on greater number of people.
Mostly, the order system was preserved, in which, however, there was a tendency to mix different
orders and their elements. The architecture of residential buildings, palaces and villas were getting

Pleistocene Ecosystem
During the Pleistocene many barriers to fish dispersal and recolonization already existed in the
western United States. The Rocky Mountain Range was formed before the Miocene and the Sierras
elevated in the Pliocene, both formidable North South barriers (Smith 1981). Along with these
significant geographic barriers, the western U.S. has historically had much smaller and more
climatically unpredictable basins compared to the east. These basins held lower populations of fish
which increased the probabilities of extinction and the lack of stability often interrupted speciation
(Smith 1981). Despite these factors, there is still some diversity that arose out of these basins
largely due to the lacustrine environment that was in place during... Show more content on

2; Echelle 2008). The three species diverged from one another in the last one million years, with
C. diabolis falling out most recently some 0.5 MYA. The speciation is believed to be allopatric,
but there is still some uncertainty regarding C. diabolis (Duvernell Turner 1998). The reason for
this uncertainty is that the cavern that C. diabolis currently inhabits, Devil s Hole, only opened
to the surface around 60,000 years ago (Martin et al. 2016). It is possible that there was some
degree of sympatric speciation happening before a colonization event occurred or, because
mtDNA was used to determine divergence times, C. nevadensis could have been polymorphic
for mtDNA before the cavern opened and was subsequently colonized (Echelle 2008). So how
did the allopatric speciation of the Death Valley pupfish occur? Was it the result of dispersal or
vicariance? When we examine figure 2 closely, we see that although the Pleistocene lakes in the
Death Valley region were extensive, they still might not have connected all of the waterways. In
addition, this map shows a summary of the lakes, that is to say that all of them did not exist at the
same time (Knott et al. 2008). Limited connectivity of waterways as well as the late colonization
and subsequent speciation of C. diabolis are potentially evidence against the hypothesis for
speciation through vicariance. On the other hand, pupfish are notoriously very poor dispersers.

The Use Of Technology In Neil Postman s Brave New World
The invention of technology has made life easier but has it really helped? Neil Postman s
writing AMUSING OURSELVES TO DEATH from 1985 brings up the concern about the use of
new technology and how it s negatively affecting our society. Neil Postman s unique and very
fitting title AMUSING OURSELVES TO DEATH helps to portray what Postman tries to
explain through this writing. Postman also uses two authors Orwell who s the author of
Nineteen Eighty Four and Huxley s who is the author of Brave New World . The transition from
the market of ideas to the market of images that technology has made. Postman writing
AMUSING OURSELVES TO DEATH conveys valid points about technology and the affect it
has on society but it s debatable whether technology is good or bad. Postman s use of Orwell and
Huxley to show that there can be a problem but two different reasons to why that has become a
problem. The problem being that Postman believes that with the use of technology, we as a
society will become useless. How does Orwell and Huxley fit into this well What Orwell feared
were those who would ban books. What Huxley feared was that there would be no reason to ban
a book, for there would be no one who wanted to read one (Postman 14). Orwell believe that
someone like a dictator that would take away or ability to think and learn and we wouldn t have
control over it. Huxley believes that we would lose our will to want to learn. As how does this

Snow Goose Overpopulation
The Overpopulation of the Snow Goose in North America
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to explore available research on the overpopulation of the Snow Goose
on the North American continent. The snow goose has been rising in population since the middle
of the century and has been escalating so much it is destroying their natural habitat. Wildlife
managers have just recently begun to implement strategies to combat this problem. Mainly through
the use of hunters the managers are trying to curb the population growth.
Introduction
There are three main species of Snow Goose of primary concern. The Lesser Snow Goose (LSGO)
is the must abundant and at the same time most troublesome. Ross Goose (ROGO) is very similar
to the Lesser ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hunting of the Greater Snow Goose was banned in the us from 1931 75 (Abraham and Jeffries
1998). Hunting was not allowed to promote population numbers, and once started in 1975 did
not have a high harvest. The LSGO and ROGO starting in the middle of the 60 s and continually
have extended their nesting range south into less extreme climate (Abraham and Jeffries 1998).
It has also been suggested that since birds are now living longer the older adults are now leading
the less wary young to safer sites and out of hunter s range (Ingstrup 1998). Ingstrup also suggests
that the artic may be warming and as Abraham and Jeffries cited there has been shown a
correlation between the snow melt and survival of nesting birds and their young. According to
Hodge the annual kill by hunters in 1970 neared 40% but in 1994 the rate had dropped to less than
8%. Thus allowing a great deal of the adult population to return to nesting sites in the spring.
Impact on habitat
The snow geese still nest in a primarily salt marsh environment. The geese have a detrimental
feeding behavior in which they pull up the marsh grass by the roots. This behavior is know as
grubbing and when done in mass quantities can destroy whole marshes for decades. A project
known as the Hudson Bay Project: Ecosystem Studies and Conservation of Coastal Arctic Tundra
has done extensive research onto

Reflection Notes On The Book Of Amos
Reflection #3
After reading chapters 5 and 6 from the text, please read the following passages and thoughtfully
reflect on the questions. Upload your paper before the beginning of class on Monday, October 2.
1. Read Second Samuel 9 20 and First Kings 1 2. After having read this story, which most modern
interpreters consider a single literary unit, reflect on and discuss the main characters: David,
Bathsheba, Nathan, Joab, and Absalom. What adjectives come to mind in describing them? Are
there any sympathetic characters? What, if any, timeless qualities do you find in the story?
Sympathetic: joab, 2. Read the Book of Amos. A. In the Book of Amos, as in a number of the
prophetic works in the Hebrew Bible, God seems to show special regard for the poor and ire
against those who oppress them. Comment on passages in Amos that relate this. B. Imagine a
contemporary Amos appearing suddenly in the US. What would he say about the behaviors and
patterns of today? How might people (e.g. leaders, media) respond to his message?

David is King of Israel and appears to be chosen by God to rule. David has many good qualities
of a strong leader like wisdom and generosity. But he does not always show great qualities. He is
not a completely selfless man, and sins greatly when it came to Bathsheba. David various sinful

Peace Like A River Romanticism Essay
Peace Like a River as a Romantic Novel Imagination (n): Gateway to transcendent experience and
truth. In literature, and more specifically Peace Like a River, imagination is introduced into the
novel through an exceptional movement, known as Romanticism. Romanticism revolved around a
new form of writing resulting in a major shift between faith in the matter and faith in the senses,
and mainly pertains to the individual, intuition, and imagination. Clearly it can be argued that
Romanticismis a major attribute and strong support system in the novel Peace Like a River, by
its use of imagination. Reuben s description of Davy as an awed hush... when he enters the
courtroom explores the possibility of what is expected isn t always what is. As well, Reuben s
views and thoughts of what Mr. Ford s character and disposition appeared to be even though he
hadn t even met the man. Finally, Swede s ballads and tales about Sunny Sundown clearly
describe the Romantic ideas and elements such as imagination. Therefore, it is quite clear that Leif
Enger s novel, Peace Like a River, is most definitely a Romantic novel with the element of
imagination, due to the three factual events that occur: Reuben s view over Davy when presented
in the courtroom, Reuben s description over Lonnie Ford without even meeting, and Swede s ballads

around her makes everything seem so surreal. How could an imagination like that, produce all the
questions and wonders of the world, into a few lines that could make everything crystal clear in a
matter of moments. Swede transforms things, and proves that imagination can lead to great things.
It is absolute that Swede s use of Sunny Sundown and her ballad s hold a large amount of
imagination, making it quite clear that Romanticism occurs throughout the novel, Peace Like a

Nationalism in a Multicultural Society
Nationalism is exclusionary by definition. In a well argued essay, compare the positive and negative
effects of nationalism within a multicultural or multiethnic society. In your answer, discuss the
problems that a multicultural society poses to the formation of national identity and why you do or
do not believe that nationalism is compatible with the liberal state s emphasis upon individual rights
and freedoms.
The Age of liberal democracy is also the Age of nationalism (Bernard Yack, 2003) . Throughout
history, the relationship between nationalism and the emergence and proliferation of the liberal
democratic state has been closely intertwined. Examples of democratic states that rose in tandem
with nationalism are the French ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He carried out genocide on the German Jews in order to create the perfect Aryan race. Hitler
successfully turned the Germans against each other based on anti Semitic ideals. From this point of
view, nationalism and the politics of ethnic cleansing represent the dark side of democracy (Bernard
Yack, 2003) . National identity becomes horribly wrong, especially in multinational societies, when
people sometimes rank identities hierarchically, leading to the rejection of another nation as inferior.
The modernist theories imply that until the beginning of the 19th century, almost no one had more
than local loyalties. National identity and unity were originally imposed from above, by European
states, because they were necessary to modernize the economy and society. In this theory,
nationalist conflicts are an unintended side effect. For state theorists, pervasive loyalty or devotion
to the polity is purposefully encouraged through the allocation of services and privileges, with the
state adjudicating disputes to bolster unity (Bernard Yack, 2003) . Ernest Gellner, a philosopher and
social anthropologist, argued that nations are a by product of industrialization. Modernization
theorists regard the printing press and capitalism as necessary conditions for nationalism. The
greater the group nationalism, the greater the group homogeneity of attitudes, beliefs, language
spoken and ways of behaving, the greater is the group cohesiveness. Partly as a result of

Account for George Eliots Decision to Give Maggie a Tragic...
There are several ways in which George Eliot s decision to give Maggie a tragic ending in The
Mill on the Floss can be substantiated. The examination of Maggie s character in relation to her
family and the society of St Oggs, a bustling commercial town is a major factor to acknowledge.
Consideration should also be given to the suggestion that the creation of Maggie s characterand the
hopeless inevitability of her ultimate demise, was an attempt by Eliot to highlight the social
realities that existed for women in the 19th centuryand possibly a reflection of her own situation.
Also aesthetic features such as realism and tragedylead to the realisation that Eliot could present no

She is spontaneous and natural, her impulsive nature is illustrated when she cuts her hair
following a casual remark by her father that she should have it cut short. She immediately regrets
it when her brother Tom and other members of her family ridicule her. During her childhood
Maggie s numerous frustrations are vented by hammering nails into a fetish doll in the attic.
Maggie is imaginative, well read and very intelligent, however she is denied the education
afforded to her brother Tom who is not nearly as clever as she is. Mr Stelling her brother s tutor
recognises her potential but scorns the serious education of women:
`They can pick up a little of everything, I dare say, said Mr Stelling. They ve a great deal of

The constraints placed upon Maggie by this patriarchal view and the urges to conform by her

she is forced to give up her schooling, her nature becomes more rebellious and her desires more
intense. For a while she renounces her desires the need for learning and conforms after reading a
book by Thomas a Kempis. However her opportunities are so limited that this state of denial is
impossible for Maggie to continue. Maggie spends her life idolising her brother and craving his

Informative Essay On Fingerhakeln
Fingerhakeln is a sport originating from Germany and Austria that tests your strength in an odd
way. The sport dates back to the 17th century and was used to settle disputes and arguments
between men. It is sort of like arm wrestling where one person has to prove their strength by making
the other person submit to your arm strength but with your finger. This sport is still being played to
this day and it even has its own championship with very serious competitors. It might seem like
fun to people learning about this, but it is anything but as it takes dedication and a lot of pain
tolerance to endure this feat of strength. Fingerhakeln is a simple game to play, all you need is a
friend, a table, and a strong ring of some sort (It could be rope, leather, duct tape, ect.). To play,
the two players put their middle fingers around the string and start pulling. Whoever pulls the
other players finger all the way across the table wins. The competition only lasts for about 1 to 10
seconds so it is hard to declare a victor sometimes without a judge. Like wrestling, people are put
into different weight classes to give the contestants a more evenly matched opponent. It isn t all fun
though, as it is pretty common to see a contestant walk out with a bloody finger.... Show more

the event, there is tons of music, alcohol, and finger pulling to be seen. Over a hundred people will

Environmental Pollution
Introduction: Our planet relies on vegetation as a source of oxygen and cutting it down takes away
that source. This creates an unstable balance where civilization needs to rely on something else for
that missing part of oxygen. To what extent should humans prevent deforestation in major forests
worldwide? Forests cover about 30% of our entire planet and scientists are predicting that within the
next 50 100 years, deforestationwill cause all non protected forests to be cut down (National
Geographic). As stated by the NASA Earth Observatory author and editor Rachel Lindsey, In the
Amazon alone, scientists estimate that the trees contain more carbon than ten years of human
produced greenhouse gases (Lindsey). As people cut down trees on a daily basis, the carbon that is
held in the tree is released into the atmosphere, adding to the already present global warming
problem. As the trees are cleared, people tend to replace this previously forested area with
pastures and fields to grow crops on. This is not only bad for the environment, it additionally
creates a hotter climate. Meanwhile, Science News author and previous writer/editor for the
Chicago Adler Planetarium Janet Raloff shows readers that nitrous oxide has a large impact on the
ozone of our planet, contributing to global warming and climate change. The ozone absorbs most of
the radiation coming from the sun to the earth. As trees are cut down, it increases the rate of nitrous
oxide released into the atmosphere

  • 3. Pike Fly Research Paper The Double Bunny Pike Fly is an extremely effective fly for northern pike. There are many different colour and tying variations of the bunny leech. This style in the color red works well in my part of the world. Pike seem to have a thing for the colour red, it triggers their aggression. 1) These are the materials I use for my double bunny pike fly. Comparable materials can be used but the action may vary. 2) Secure your hook in the vice and tie in your red thred. Wrapping the full length of the hook shank will create some friction on the lead wire and other material and keep it from moving on the shank. A large hook with a wide gap is a necessity for the large pike mouth. 3) Coil on your Lead wire and make wraps to secure it in place. 4) Tie in your pearl poly flash behind the lead wire to help with the tapper of the body.... There is no need to stack it. Tie in the hair and spin it around the hook shank. 13) Build a head and taper the head to the eye. Try pulling back the hair to see what the fly would look like wet and base your thickest point of the taper off that. 14) Add a holographic eye and UV clear finish the head. • 5. Morality In International Relations International relations have always been a very important topic. Knowing and understanding the history of international relations is vital to learning how it has evolved and how we can handle it today and in the future. However today our historical egoism, or the idea that we believe we are better and more advanced than those in the past can blind us. In reality, history is a bit more complicated. We often ask if it is a never ending march of progress or one conflict after another? The best we can do is learn and try to create a better future. With that said, we will be looking at two important factors in international relations: power and morals. It has been a widely debated issue whether it is better to use power or morals in international relations. Some argue that power is the answer to international relations, and others believe that morals are the answer. In the end, several theories, authors, and examples can lead us closer to the aptness of international relations. Their international relation structures are very different. America is more realist than Europe in the way they use, desire, and view power. Europe s perspective is more diplomatic and sophisticated. Europe tends to turn away from power and focuses on a creating laws and rules that world should follow. When an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Violent acts against offenders are uncommon. Megan s Law comes with the disadvantage that it discourages many sex offenders from participating in the registry due to the fear factor of them being attacked or looked at differently in their neighborhood. Even though it is a felony offense to fail to register on Megan s Law, around 20% of offenders do not comply with the registration requirement. The neonate high risk factors are birth prior to 32 weeks, weighing less then 1300 grams and laboratory data suggesting poor lung maturity discussed later. (Bower, Barnhart, betiti, Hendon, Masi lynch, Wilson, 825) The highest risk factor for RDS type I is an insulin dependent diabetic mother, because boluses of insulin injections severely decrease the fetus production of surfactant. (Porth, 1306)) Chronic hypoxic events during pregnancy associated with mild to moderate maternal hypertension have shown however to sometime accelerate fetal lung maturity and surfactant production leading to a decrease in neonatal respiratory complications. • 20. Children s Socialization And Control Of Children Before... 1.What role did the family play in the socialization and control of children before the 1800s? During the Middle Ages and through the 1500s and 1600s, the family served as the primary unit of social control. Within the family, power was typically vested in the father, and the mother and the children were expected to obey his commands. However, the nuclear family of today was relatively rare in the middle ages. Rather, a typical family consisted of an extended group of related people and other individuals who were not related. The father, particularly if he was a merchant, might spend considerable time away from the home. High mortality rates meant that either parent might have died and been replaced by a stepparent. In addition, servants, apprentices, and journeymen sometimes lived in the household, and neighbors were often present. Consequently, childrenwere exposed to a large number of adults who played a role in their socialization and control. 2.What role did children play in the colonization of the New World? Children were counted on to play an important role in the expansion of European influence and became an integral part of plans to colonize the New World. Indeed, for some people, the colonization of the New World was viewed as an opportunity for children to be involved in productive work. That s because snow can weigh a roof down and cause leaks to occur. Buying an extendable roof rake will allow you to easily pull down snow that has collected on the roof while safely on the ground. Make sure that you clean out the gutters prior to the winter. Clogged gutters will not leave any room for water runoff to go, which brings the snow and ice closer to your roof. • 38. We Are Fascinated By Robots People are fascinated by robots. Movies for many years have explored themes of humanity and artificial intelligence, and at what point those two mix. Perhaps what is so interesting about these films is the question humans have been asking themselves for thousands of years, what makes something human? Or even, What makes someone sentient ? It s an intriguing thought. The movie, I, Robot, asks this question, but it also explores something called the Three Laws , and several moral theories. While perhaps it doesn t answer any of the queries it brings up, the film is at the very least, curious and thought provoking. The movie I, Robot is set in the vaguely near future where personal robots have been integrated into society. These robots are in most every household, like the smart phones of today, and they are being designed to look increasingly human. While most people in the movie consider these robots as laptops or iPods that is, a piece of machinery that could do more harm or betray you than a toaster could a Detective Spooner regards them with suspicion. Because of an car crash where a robot rescued him instead of a young girl, as the robot calculated Spooner had a greater chance of survival, the Detective distrusts all robots. Throughout the film, he is ridiculed for believing that robots could be dangerous. They are all programmed with the Three Laws. Surely, with the Laws in place, nothing can go wrong. Spooner then meets a robot called Sonny, who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sherlock Holmes By Arthur Conan Doyle To begin with, the first indispensable step in the research should be devoted to the Scottish writer sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the creator of the famous Victorian detective Sherlock Holmes. The fact that Conan Doyle was not the first detective writer is definitely worth mentioning. The founder of the detective genre is considered to be the American writer Edgar Allan Poe. The story of detective fictionoficially started in 1841 when Poe published his The Murders in the Rue Morgue (Kopley 31). This famous story established literary conventions which are used in detective fiction till the present time. The main character of Poe`s novels, the Paris detective C. August Dupin, has become a prototype of the detective image which does not stale even nowadays, and had a big influence on Sherlock Holmes`s image (Schwartz 15). Arthur Conan Doyle devoted his famous quotation to Poe: Each [of Poe s detective stories] is a root from which a whole literature has developed... Where was the detective story until Poe breathed the breath of life into it? (Dawn 323). The Rocky Mountain Range was formed before the Miocene and the Sierras elevated in the Pliocene, both formidable North South barriers (Smith 1981). Along with these significant geographic barriers, the western U.S. has historically had much smaller and more climatically unpredictable basins compared to the east. The speciation is believed to be allopatric, but there is still some uncertainty regarding C. diabolis (Duvernell Turner 1998). The reason for this uncertainty is that the cavern that C. diabolis currently inhabits, Devil s Hole, only opened to the surface around 60,000 years ago (Martin et al. 2016). It is possible that there was some degree of sympatric speciation happening before a colonization event occurred or, because mtDNA was used to determine divergence times, C. nevadensis could have been polymorphic for mtDNA before the cavern opened and was subsequently colonized (Echelle 2008). So how did the allopatric speciation of the Death Valley pupfish occur? Was it the result of dispersal or vicariance? When we examine figure 2 closely, we see that although the Pleistocene lakes in the Death Valley region were extensive, they still might not have connected all of the waterways. In addition, this map shows a summary of the lakes, that is to say that all of them did not exist at the same time (Knott et al. 2008). Limited connectivity of waterways as well as the late colonization and subsequent speciation of C. diabolis are potentially evidence against the hypothesis for speciation through vicariance. It has also been suggested that since birds are now living longer the older adults are now leading the less wary young to safer sites and out of hunter s range (Ingstrup 1998). Ingstrup also suggests that the artic may be warming and as Abraham and Jeffries cited there has been shown a correlation between the snow melt and survival of nesting birds and their young. The sport dates back to the 17th century and was used to settle disputes and arguments between men. It is sort of like arm wrestling where one person has to prove their strength by making the other person submit to your arm strength but with your finger. This sport is still being played to this day and it even has its own championship with very serious competitors. To play, the two players put their middle fingers around the string and start pulling. Whoever pulls the other players finger all the way across the table wins. The competition only lasts for about 1 to 10 seconds so it is hard to declare a victor sometimes without a judge. As stated by the NASA Earth Observatory author and editor Rachel Lindsey, In the Amazon alone, scientists estimate that the trees contain more carbon than ten years of human produced greenhouse gases (Lindsey). As people cut down trees on a daily basis, the carbon that is held in the tree is released into the atmosphere, adding to the already present global warming problem. As the trees are cleared, people tend to replace this previously forested area with pastures and fields to grow crops on. This is not only bad for the environment, it additionally creates a hotter climate. Meanwhile, Science News author and previous writer/editor for the Chicago Adler Planetarium Janet Raloff shows readers that nitrous oxide has a large impact on the ozone of our planet, contributing to global warming and climate change. The ozone absorbs most of the radiation coming from the sun to the earth. As trees are cut down, it increases the rate of nitrous oxide released into the atmosphere ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
