Essay about Bone Dreams by Seamus Heaney
Bone Dreams by Seamus Heaney An Analysis
Bone Dreams is an obscure and difficult poem to understand. In all my searching on the internet,
I found very little to help me in my analysis of this poem and so the ideas are basically my own. I
might be wide of the mark, but for anybody struggling to understand this poem, it might at least
give you some ideas of your own. I make no apology for asking questions or for sounding vague or
even muddled in places. I hope that this essay is of help to somebody, somewhere.
The poem begins in a thoughtful mood; the voice is relaxed, White bone found/on the grazing
suggesting that the speaker is walking in the countryside when he discovers a piece of bone in the
grass. He uses tactile ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of course, you can also write with chalk, and the act of and implements of writing are often found
in the metaphors and similes of Heaney s poetry.
In the third stanza, the speaker touches it again and it is almost as if this act of touching for a
second time sparks off a series of thoughts, tangential in quality, and as tangents do, they move
freely from one image to another, imbuing the writing with a dreamlike quality. It is almost as if
the bone has him in a powerful trance. The bone, which has become part of the landscape, has
transformed into a device for releasing thought processes. Landscape, being one of the favourite
themes of Heaney, is in itself a part of history. It is the history of Ireland and its people and its
landscape that often preoccupies the poet and, here, we see some of this preoccupation allowed
flight as his mind takes off in a series of flickering thoughts and associations.
Almost as soon as this begins to occur, his thoughts start to take a hostile turn as he envisages
being able to, wind it [the bone] in the sling of mind , and pitch it at England , the old enemy. Again
there is the idea of the bone as stone, with the mind as a catapult. This obviously draws on the
myth of David and Goliath, where the bigger and stronger giant is vanquished by a small boy who

Information Security
Information Security
As the world migrates to the digital village, a lot of digital data and information is generated and
transmitted. In the same line, there is a growing need for data repositories or data banks.
Information security is chiefly concerned about prevention, detection and response to computer
threats or risks (CISCO, 2013). Protecting organizational information and systems is a daunting task
because of the emerging and advanced threats to information technology resources. Securing
information technology infrastructure and informational assets is a continuous cycle as
advancements in technology presents a new breed of threats (Hunt, 1998).

Types of firewalls
According to CISCO (2013), firewalls are categorized into software and hardware types.
Hardware Firewalls and their advantages
Hardware firewalls are specialized network systems that contain specialized software and hardware.
When they are configured appropriately, these firewalls provide a protective barrier that hide an
entity s internal computers and applications from the outside world. Hardware firewalls can also
shield organization department; for instance, the human resources from another department such as
the finance department. Hardware firewalls are mostly applicable in scenarios where entities
require a unitary information security umbrella with the capability of protecting multiple systems
(CISCO, 2013). This reason points out why most FORTUNE 500 company networks have
implemented hardware firewalls. However, since hardware firewalls are specialized devices or
systems, they tend to be complicated, expensive, tricky to configure and difficult to upgrade. That
is to say, they are best reserved for Information Technology experts or consultants trained to assess,
install, configure and maintain such systems. In addition, the low end hardware firewalls currently
found in network devices such as routers and switches for homes and small businesses are also
limited to locations. In other words, if an accountant or any other user from the accounting
department takes their mobile devices or laptops to the road, their

Access Control System Analysis
As a business owner, you want to make sure you keep your business secure both during and after
working hours. One tool you can use to keep your business as secure as possible is an access
control system.
An access control system can provide you with greater control over who enters your building and
when they enter your building. It can also allow you the power to remotely monitor access to your
business.
#1 Track Movement Through Your Business
One of the biggest benefits of installing an access controls system to regulate who has access to
your business is that you will be able to monitor who enters your building and when they do so.
There are two different ways you can set up your access control system to store this information,
either ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You will be able to access this information from any web browser that allows you access to the
system. The information should be stored on a main controller with the company that manages you
access control system.
Server Based
If you choose to go with a server based information system, all of the entry and exit data collected
from your access points will be stored on a local server. This could be a server located on site or a
remotely located server. With server based storage, only an individual who has access to your
server will be able to access the entry and exit information for your business.
If security is a concern for you, a server based system to store information about who accesses
your building is the way to go. If having access to that information regardless of where you are at
is important to you, a browser based information storage system may be best.
#2 Control Who When People Have Access to Your Business
Installing an access control system to your external and internal doors within your business will
allow you to control who has access to your business and when they have

The Most Significant Changes to the Laws of Iraq after the...
The Most Significant Changes to the laws of Iraq after the War in 2003. Iraqi laws have seen
constant changes. Many old laws have been replaced by a new legislation, and other laws have
been amended; first by the US Civil Administrator Paul Bremer, and later by the government of
Iraq. And this happened after the fall of Saddam Hussain`s regime and the occupation of Iraqby the
American and the British forces on 9th April 2003. Paul Bremer issued more than 100 laws and
regulations within one year changing and repealing long established civil and commercial laws.
And most of these laws are not devoid of interest. The U.S. preference at the expense of the
Iraqis and their national sovereignty the most important is the investment law and corporate
law. Then it exempt companies from providing capital to run their branches and this (Capital)
resource strengthens of the national economy and national income and other measures were
useful in the old law. Not only that, but it has canceled many of the articles in the penal code and
has replaced it with other laws, as well as in criminal law and personal status law and other laws.
One of the most significant foreign personnel are exempted from Iraqi jurisdiction , from Iraqi
civil and penal laws. This Order applies to all civil and military personnel of the Authority,
Foreign Liaison Missions, as well as all non Iraqi personnel of contractors and sub contractors

Essay on The Use of Sterioids in Baseball
Steroids In Baseball
Baseball was meant to be a sport for people to play and to have fun while doing it. It was like that
for a while until drugs such as steroids started becoming more accessible.
There has been an ongoing conversation lately about cheating in sports. Within the four major
sports in the US, baseball has been talked about the most when it comes to cheating. It is not only a
problem in Major League Baseball. Young kids playing in college use steroids. Nowadays, athletes
will try their hardest to find a way to cheat, but that could not be truer when it comes to baseball
athletes. They will do anything in order to get an advantage against their opponents. According to
Todd Jones, Baseball rules clearly state that you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The sport of baseball has the biggest players salaries. The result of this is more and more players
are using steroids. It is a drug that will do serious harm to the body, such as kidney disease and
liver failure, but that does not stop players from using it. Athletes use steroids to improve their
performance and to prevent muscle breakdown. Steroids are an illegal substance, which can
only be prescribed by a doctor. This is where the supply and demand factor comes into play; the
doctors have what the players need in order to improve their ability to run faster, hit farther, and
jump higher or even to quickly recover from an injury. Players are willing to pay whatever amount
of money or anything else a doctor might ask for in order to inject them with the drug, especially
since these doctors know ways of bypassing the steroid drug test.
Ken Caminiti was the first baseball player to admit to using steroids; he never thought he was
doing anything illegal because everyone around him was doing it: I can t say, Don t do it, not
when the guy next to you is as big as a house and he s going to take your job and make the money
(gtd. in Zacharias). Recently, cheating has gotten really ruthless. Some athletes might even go to
the extreme, like seven times tour de France winner Lance Armstrong did with blood doping;
which is a way of boosting the amount of red blood cells in the bloodstream in order to an athletes

Comparison Of Ansel Adams s Life And Work
Ansel Adams a photographer and environmentalist, was born on February 20, 1902 in San
Francisco, California, the son of Charles Hitchcock Adams, a businessman, and Olive Bray. He
was the grandson of a wealthy timber baron. An only child, Adams was born when his mother was
forty. His relatively elderly parents, affluent familyhistory, and the presence of his mothers maiden
sister and aged father all combined to create an environment that was both socially and emotionally
conservative. Adams s mother spent much of her time brooding and fretting over her husband s
inability to restore the Adams fortune, leaving an ambivalent imprint on her son. Charles Adams,
on the other hand, deeply and patiently influenced, encouraged, and supported his son.
When Adams was only four, an aftershock of a great earthquake of 1906, threw him to the ground

Traditional and Nontraditional Forms of Litigation
Traditional and Nontraditional Forms of Litigation In every business of today, every business and
organization needs legal assistance. Yet, the types of legal assistance might not always be the same,
depending on the individual industry and situational analysis of the business in question. This is a
comparison of traditional and nontraditional litigation services that are often used by contemporary
businesses, with special attention paid to Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). First, to
understand the newer, nontraditional forms of litigation it is imperative to set up a sound
foundation for understanding the more traditional forms of litigation. Essentially, traditional
litigation is the process of going to court to handle disputes of both business and civil matters. As
such, litigation is the traditional process, whereby both parties use the court system and procedures
to resolve their dispute (Lewis, 2012). Here, legal advice and representation is provided by lawyers
who act on behalf of the parties involved in the dispute. In this traditional form, the parties can not
talk to each other at all during the context of the dispute process. In contrast to the more traditional
styles of litigation, Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) is much different. Essentially, this more
alternative style to approaching litigation needs aims to resolve disputes before they have to
actually go through the expensive and complicated process of litigation. Here the research claims
that

Persuasive Essay On Sexual Education
Let s teach our kids about sex
Does sex education encourage sex? Many parents are afraid that talking about sex with their
teenagers will be taken as permission for the teen to have sex. Nothing could be further from the
truth. If anything, the more children learn about sexuality from talking with their parents and
teachers and reading accurate books, the less they feel compelled to find out for themselves (Spock
62).
I will argue teaching sexual education once a child starts kindergarten will have the most effect on
their life. I strongly agree it will lower teen pregnancy, teach kids that sex is a desire, and it s okay
be curious. With discussing sex earlier on, it would help them realize to take it more serious, less
kids would regret having sex before meeting the right person, and it would teach them relationship
advice. Even though adults don t think it s right for kids to be taught because starting in
kindergarten, their too young and might think it s us telling them to have sex. The purpose of my
argument is to show parents sex causes curiosity into children s minds and they need to be taught
the right way from the wrong way and don t need to be bashed for having curiosity about sex.
Why is teen pregnancy becoming another topic individuals don t talk about? More and more teens
everyday are popping out babies left and right. In the United States teens have the most pregnancy
and STD s. Many advisors, and adults in the United States feel as if the problem can t be

Reflection Paper On Sense Perception
Sense Perception Reflection
We see and understand things not as they are but as we are Discuss this claim in relation to
perception.
Knowledge Question: To what extent does our sense perception limit the way we perceive reality?
Word Count: 800
Knowledge is an extensive concept which has no precise definition since it has no end or limit. In
a constantly changing world, several individuals have different upbringings, prejudices, viewpoints
and the way we perceive or understand certain things may be different from how they are in reality.
Firstly sense perception, in this case is simply what the eyes see, the nose smells, the ears hear or
the body feels. Secondly, reality is not a subjective knowledge, but rather an objective one. ... Show

Our senses help us gather and respond to information about our surroundings, which in turn aids our
survival through our reciprocation to most sensory information.Improvements in science have
enhanced the quality of life for many people with sensory disabilities by providing things as
alternative methods of communication, increasing mobility and technology for sensory
enhancement. For example, sound and smell has a strong influence in our daily lives it increases
our emotional quotient thus improving our productivity during work. Therefore, the way we
perceive reality can be tied to our emotions hence, sense perception in some ways can grow our
perception of reality.
To conclude, I personally believe that sense perception is dependent on many external factors
thus can limit the way we perceive reality and can sometimes betray us or memory that
influences our ways of knowing. Reality is altered everyday to some extent. However, we have
become intelligent enough to understand this idea over the decades, hence we can not let these
things come in the way of truth. That is why we use reason and logic and put aside our sense
perceptions and try to see things not as they are but as we

Medical Clinic Forecasting
A good forecast should be consistent with other parts of the business, should consider any past
data available, and should take into consideration any potential changes in the economic and
political policies (example affordable care act, etc.). There are many forecasting techniques
available and the challenge is to pick one that fits the best for one s business model. Such
techniques include expert opinion, market research, economic indicators, projections, econometric

Trend is the direction of movement of data over a relatively long period. In a medical practice, such
trends would include the increase in the number of population that would require medical care in
the future, the number of people that would be medically insured over time, and also the trend in
the neighborhood where the clinic is located. According to the US Census Bureau, the number
of Americans over age 84 is projected to more than triple between 2010 and 2050. Hence, it is
clear that there will be an increase in demand to care for the elderly population with Medicaid
plans. Medicaid plans experienced an initial bump of 10.8 million new enrollees in 2014 because
of the healthcare reform law. But future growth among those newly eligible members in the 28
states that have approved expansion won t be as large, some experts say (Sandler, 2015). This
data of Medicaid plans shows an uncertainty as even though there is an increase in demand right
now, but according to some experts this might not increase at a constant pace over time. Even in a
market oriented society like ours, government intervention in healthcare has been huge.
Government actions play an important role and impact on healthcare sector and it is obvious that
such impacts also affect the competitors. If we look at the health insurance as a whole instead of
just Medicaid plans, we see that the number of insured will grow over time

Why are they important?
Establishing reciprocal relationships with families is a strategy by which the teachers look for
information about students personal lives, their family backgrounds, and community practices. The
information thus collected is integrated into their syllabus and are adapted to structure instructional
methodologies. The advantage of this system is that the children identify the learning system much
more close to their heart and the topics are made much more easily digestible to them.
What are some factors that influence the success of a reciprocal relationship with families? What is
your role as a teacher?
Building a reciprocal relationship with parents can be challenging. There can be many reasons for
that like the poor educational background of the parents or in some cases the parents might have
been poor students themselves. In certain cases the diverse cultural roots of the students family
may find it difficult for them to get accustomed with the majority culture. As a teacher we need to

The Portrayal of Women in the Aeneid
How much control do women have over their emotions in the Aeneid? In his poem, Virgil
frequently shows women in situations where irrational thoughts lead to harmful choices.
Specifically, Virgil presents women as being easily influenced by their emotions. Consequently,
these characters make decisions that harm both themselves and those around them. Throughout
Aeneass journey, divinities such as Juno and Venus are seen taking advantage of the emotions of
different women, influencing these characters to act in ways that ignore important priorities. Not
only does Virgilpresent women as completely vulnerable to their emotions, but he also shows the
problems that arise when these women engage in decisions where they put their own feelings...

On the other hand, Virgil notes that Didos love for Aeneas has caused her to suffer. Dido s
emotions have caused her to act like a wounded animal, not thinking about the consequences of
her own actions. By being reduced to an animal, Dido has lost all rational thought. Consequently,
Dido s lack of rational thought causes her to begin to ignore other duties she has to fulfill. After
she falls in love with Aeneas, Dido disregards the vow that she made to her suitors. While
Aeneas and Dido go hunting, Juno sends down a storm that forces the two into a cave. In the
cave, Dido makes love to Aeneas and calls the affair a marriage. Shortly after this incident, news
spreads beyond her kingdom that the Carthaginian leader has abandoned her obligations as a
ruler. When the news reaches Iarbas, one of Dido s suitors, the African king expresses his anger

established. Not only did Dido lie to Iarbas, but she has also forgotten to keep the promise that she
made to herself to not marry another man (IV 19 35). Dido has abandoned her own reputation.
Instead of taking responsibility for the choices she has made, Dido continues her pursuit of the
Trojan hero. Additionally, Dido neglects other responsibilities when Aeneas is constructing homes

known as one of the ideal gentlemen of the time period, his chivalrous manner and personality
that of the perfect courtier. He was a great favorite and became greatly respected in his position.
In 1576 Sidney succeeded his father as cupbearer to Queen Elizabeth, which was a purely
ceremonial duty, and a year later the Queen gave him a diplomatic mission of traveling to the
German Emperor and the Prince of Orange to present Elizabeth s condolences on the death of
their fathers. He was to find out if they would be open to the formation of a Protestant alliance
against Catholic Spain. This mission as a diplomat was not as successful as he had hoped because
he came back far more hopeful and optimistic than the other diplomats, and the Queen was not as
confident in his reply as in the replies from other representatives. Philip continued in politics and
entertained foreign visitors and diplomats. Philip was quite intelligent, and was able to discuss
chemistry, science, art, literature, poetry, law, religion, history, politics and military with ease.

Social Control And Its Impact On America s Public Housing...
Promised a helping hand, security, and affordable living, residents of Chicago s public housing
soon found themselves in dilapidated, drug infested, crime filled, isolated centers of despair. During
a time in which most American citizens could easily turn their eyes from the struggles of the poor,
Sudhir Venkatesh s GangLeader for a Day took readers into the depths of the world in which the
poor resided. Through Venkatesh s work, readers are inadvertently introduced to broader
sociological concepts such as, collective efficacy within communities, the concentration effect,
recurring themes of morality, and the underlying power of race, class, and gender as it related to
the crimethat took place during Venkatesh s ethnographic like research. Collective efficacy is
defined as social control exerted by cohesive communities in which there exists a mutual trust
and shared responsibilities including the care of children (Siegel, 2011). When a neighborhood,
or in this case a building complex, has high collective efficacy it is believed to lower crime rates
because the community members are essentially setting the standards for the behavior for what
will and what will not be accepted. However, in Gang Leader for a Day, I have noticed a deviation.

The Attacks On Saudi Embassy
The meeting discussed the brutal attacks on the Saudi embassy in Tehran where Al Jubeir noted
that the attacks were clear violations of the international conventions, laws, and treaties. According
to the sanctity of these international agreements, the Iranian government has a responsibility to
protect the diplomatic missions on their soil. Further, he confirmed that the attacks on Saudi
diplomats were highly condemned by other countries, as well as regional and international
organizations such as UN Security Council, the Arab League, and Gulf Cooperation Council. He
asserted that OIC needed to issue a strict stance to Iran from its principles and other international
conventions and laws. Additionally, he concluded that Saudi Arabiawas more concerned with better
relations, mutual respect, non interference and good principles of neighborliness with Iran but the
latter failed to adhere to these basic rules.
As noted before, the Iranian aggressive policies date back to the 1979 revolution, after which the
country has continued to instigate cases of sedition, unrest, and chaos among the countries in the
Gulf region. This is thought to have been a long term effort by Iran to undermine security and
spread instability in the region completely disregarding the moral principles, international
conventions, and treaties. However, despite the numerous consequences caused by continued
Iranian interference, Saudi has maintained a policy of restraint to prevent any major outburst. The

The Beauty Myth By Naomi Wolf
The Beauty Myth, written by Naomi Wolf, is a study of how ideas of beauty oppress and restrict
women from fully realising their potential. Published in 1990, many of the battles of second wave
feminism had been won, which left many women in Wolf s position confused as to why women
were still struggling. Wolf argues that as women have shed traditional values of purity and
submission, they have instead become obsessed with the beauty myth. The more legal and material
hindrances which women have broken through, the more strictly and heavily and gruelling images
of female beauty have come to weigh upon us (Wolf 1990). As women have gained power and
freedom, society has instead forced them to waste their new found freedom and resources on...

Wolf argues that women as a whole could achieve much more personally, and further the causes of
feminism politically, if they were not so preoccupied with the obsession of their attractiveness, their
youth, and their ability to remain thin.
Another key element of Wolf s work is her focus on the deliberate and pervasive harm that women
are suffering due to the beauty myth. This included the increased rates and severity of eating
disorders and strict dieting, which inhibits women s strength both physically and mentally. Dieting
is the most potent political sedative in women s history; a quietly mad population is a tractable
one (Wolf 1990). Starvation inhibits the brain from thinking of anything other than one s one
survival, and therefore food, and this is a state that significant proportions of modern women exist
in. Eating disorders can also lead to other mental and physical health issues, reducing women s
abilities to succeed in the outside world, all because they are too good at what society is
pressuring them to do. Another key way in which Wolf sees the physical harm of the beauty myth
is in cosmetic surgery. The United States cosmetic surgical industry was worth $300 million when
Wolf first published this book in 1991,

Rhetorical Analysis of a Visit to the Town Park Essays
Peeking beauty at Town Park
I am surrounded by the splendor of the nature. On a moderately sunny morning, birds are peeping
while sitting on the gigantic mature tree in the park. The stream of water rising from the fountain is
crafting a magical melody. The mesmerizing winds have imprisoned everyone s attention. The
bright colorful flowers are depicting the charms of their juvenile. Different pleasant sounds in the
environment are contributing to the concerto of nature. Leaves rustling in the cool breeze are an
amazing part of the environment. A young couple sitting on the bench beside the fountain is

In the pleasant description, I discussed the chirping of birds. I have discussed the sounds of water in
the fountain and the rustling of leaves due to cool breeze. This description emphasizes the fact that
the weather out there is very pleasant and the people sitting there are relishing the moments. While
the leaves rustling was creating an amazing environment, there were also some dead leaves in the
fountain decaying over days and months contaminating the environment.
I also skipped some details in order to maintain the mood and tone. In my pleasant description, I
skipped the dead and decaying leaves settled in the fountain bottom, while discussing the stream of
water rising from the fountain. The reader could have got a negative impact of a good place had I
mentioned the garbage details in the positive description.
Similes and metaphors also helped me writing the description. The water from fountain crafting a
magical melody depicts the beautiful environment out there. The rustle of leaves portrays the grace
of nature. The bright colors of flowers have strong resemblance with juvenile period of human
being, which makes the description more pleasant. Similarly, gloominess specifies sadness in the
negative description.

Gun Violence Argumentative Essay
Alyssa Alhadeff was a member of a travel soccer team, and attended a Jewish sleepaway camp
during her summers. She was described as a bright, outgoing girl with a love for athletics.
Alyssa was fourteen years old when she was fatally shot by an active shooter, Nikolas Cruz, at
her high school. The issue of gun violence is a very controversial issue that splits our country into
two opinions those who are for stricter gun control laws and those who are against them. The
conversations about this topic have increased significantly in the past year due to recent events.
The 2017 Las Vegas shooting and the 2018 Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting were
two particular instances that shocked and outraged the nation. Gun violence is a fairly new concern
as far as problems in The United Statesgo, with seven of the eight deadliest shootings of U.S.
history having occurred after 1990. This is a key piece of information, because studies have shown
that while the number of shootings has not necessarily increased in recent years, the number of
fatalities within each has. Therefore, the actual root of this issue is the guns being used. These
weapons are continuing to become more and more advanced, yet the laws in regards to them are

Investigation of the Thermal Decomposition of Copper...
Investigation of the Thermal Decomposition of Copper Carbonate
Aim:
Copper has two oxides, Cu2O, and CuO. Copper carbonate, CuCO3 decomposes on heating to
form one of these oxides and an equation can be written for each possible reaction
Equation 1: 2CuCO3 (s) Cu2O (s) + 2CO2 (g) + O2 (g)
Equation 2: CuCO3 (s) CuO (s) + CO2 (g)
The aim of this experiment is to prove which equation is correct. This can be done by volumetric
analysis i.e. calculating the volume of gas produced. This is then compared to the calculated
volume of gas produced in each equation and the equation with the nearest volume of gas is correct.
This is a thermal decomposition reaction and when an element like copper can form two oxides,

It is also not sufficient to simply consider the stability of a compound with respect to its elements. It
is necessary to consider the stability of copper
(I) oxide with respect to copper (II) oxide, as well as with respect to copper and oxygen.
It would also be important to consider the stability of CuCO3 with respect to both oxides, to see
which reaction is energetically most likely. So it is clear that the value of ГЋ Hf suggests that
Cu2O will be formed, but that this will not necessarily be the case because of the other factors
involved.
Copper (II) compounds are by far the most common they are called
cupric . Copper (I) compounds cuprous compounds are far less common. Copper atoms most
readily go to oxidation state +2, by a variety of reactions. Cupric compounds are unstable in the
presence of water, so must either be insoluble or form complexes with other molecules. The
equations are written in moles and through my background knowledge
I now know the definition of a mole, 1mole of any substance contains the same number of
particles as 12g of carbon 12. 1 mole of any element contains 6.01 x 1023 atoms. 1 mole of a
molecular compound contains 6.01 x 1023 molecules.
This means that in a reaction in which 2 molecules of one substance react with 1 molecule of
another for instance the formation of water: 2H2 + O2 2H2O, 2 moles of hydrogen molecules will
react with
1 mole of oxygen molecules to give 2 moles of water molecules. For an element, the mass

Jews And Booze By Marni Davis
In Marni Davis s book Jews and Booze, she offers readers a well researched study addressing
Jewish immigrant acculturation. Data on Jews, booze, and prohibition is familiar to scholars
who study the histories of New York City, Chicago, and New Jersey. Much to her credit, Davis
also gathers information from southern locales such as Atlanta and California. In Robert
Rockaway s book But He Was Good to His Mother, he examined Jewish gangsters in the early
twentieth century and came to the conclusion that the reason a large number of them worked in the
illegal alcohol business was because of the profit caused by prohibition and the intense thirst
society developed for alcohol that came with it. When he studied further he realized that these
gangsters running illegal operations often were more caring and human than people believed.
Incorporated into this review are studies of the real life activity of these gangsters through
information that Rockaway was able to recover. As Jewish immigrants found their place in
nineteenth and twentieth century America, alcohol was never far from their lips. True, Jews were
known for their abstemious drinking habits, but the production and sale of alcoholic beverages
offered economic opportunity in the United States as it had in Europe, where some Jews were
vintners, brewers, liquor distributors, and tavern owners (Davis). However, if alcohol selling
brought prosperity, it also brought the Jews into the world of mobs and gangsters.

The Conversion Of Solar ( Pv ) Energy Into Hydrogen Gas...
Name: Institution: Course: Instructor: Date: The Conversion of Solar (PV) Energy into
Hydrogen Gas for Fuel Cells. Introduction Solar photovoltaic (PV) systems convert sunlight into
direct current. For this to be achieved, semi conducting materials would be required to induce
the photovoltaic effect. A photovoltaic system comprises solar panels, each fitted with a
number of solar cells that supply solar energy to the system. In the absence of sunlight, solar
power would be available for household or commercial lighting applications (Ratlamwala 86).
This paper examines the feasibility of converting solar PV electricity into hydrogen for fuel cells
based on: cost of hydrogen production (per kilogram), the quantity of solar power required to
generate hydrogen (per kilogram), the feasibility of the technology in the UAE amid the costs
and efficiencies of the system components. Question 1 Just like the rest of the world, the United
Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Middle East have intensified efforts to curb the global warming
menace. Several independent studies (e.g. Harder 790 Radhi 18) have pointed out that
overdependence on fossil fuels tends to heighten global warming. At a glance, hydrogen can be
considered as an ideal substitute to fossil fuels. Hydrogen provides about three times of renewable
energy harnessed from natural gas. When hydrogen is used in energy production, pure water is
emitted as the sole by product of the process (Radhi 12).

Pride In The Scarlet Ibis By James Hurst
Many times we think pride is a good thing. But, in this case it can hurt the ones you love. Webster
Dictionary s definition of pride is a feeling or deep pleasure or satisfaction derived from one s own
achievements. In this story, I will talk about one boy s pride that comes from the achievements of
his brother rather than him. Rather than celebrating the glory of his brother s achievements; he lets
the prideget to him and makes him act narcissistic.
In The Scarlet Ibis by James Hurst, the narrator lets his pride and ambition ultimately destroy his
brother.
The Narrator has always had strong opinions on Doodle. Ever since the day Doodle was born,
the Narrator s pride was much too high for having Doodle as a brother saying, He was born when

I was ashamed of having a crippled brother. The motives of this were not fair to Doodle, but the
outcome made everyone in the family delighted. Soon he had let the feeling of pride engulf him
turning it into something worse. I did not know then that pride is a wonderful, terrible thing, a seed

Conflicts, Disputes, And Solutions
Conflicts, Disputes, and Solutions
Introduction
Over the past century there has been a dramatic increase in conflicts and disputes, especially after
the historic publishing of The Communist Manifesto in 1848, written by the father of conflict
theory Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. Till now, even after the Professor Sander s historic paper,
The Pound Conference: Perspectives on Justice in the Future in 1976, people are still trying to find
more effective and efficient solutions to conflicts or disputes ranging from family issues to
commercial disputes, and fortunately, the development of Alternative Dispute Resolution(ADR) is
the most successful methods for conflicts. The concepts that many people have of conflicts and
disputes is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dispute is the formal name of dysfunctional conflict, which is viewed as a kind of conflict
manifesting itself in a distinct, justiciable issues (Brown and Marriot 1999). This view indicates
that one more feature of the dispute is its justiciability. Burton (1993) further distinguished the two
concepts from a time scale perspective, who suggested that compared with conflict, dispute which
is supposed to be easy to resolve is a kind of short term disagreement that are embedded in a larger
and longer term conflict. Thus, from this analysis of conflict and dispute, it can be suggested that
conflict is inevitable while dispute is needed to be avoided.
As to the reason why conflicts are inevitable, Karl Marx provided a classic view of class struggle,
which said the struggle for scarce resources is the fundamental reason of conflicts. Inherited from
Karl Marx s conflict theory, German sociologist Ralf Dahrendorf pointed out that it is the
unbalanced distribution of scarce resources including authority and wealth that results in conflicts
(Dahrendorf 1963). Dahrendorf (1963) later concluded that because of the existence of ruler and
the ruled in the society, the characteristics of inequality would hardly be removed by society itself,
which indicates that conflict is a trait of the society. This view is supported and further developed
by Acland (1990, p69), who suggested that conflict is the nature

Quentin Tarantino s Pulp Fiction
Pulp Fiction is a cult classic. Released in 1994 by co writer and director, Quentin Tarantino, this
movie is a neo noir crime drama/dark comedy that revolves around several seemingly independent
stories that intertwine as the film progresses. The way this film came together was a bit of an
intentional accident. The two writers for the film, Quentin Tarantinoand Roger Avary, weren t
planning on writing this at all. Originally, they were going to do a short film then decided that

Avary had his script but it was too short to make into a standalone feature length film. Avary s script
became what Pulp Fiction viewers recognize as The Gold Watch sequence. All other sequences in
the movie were written into the script by both Tarantino and Avary.
Once the script was written, Tarantino and Avary sought out funding. Columbia TriStar found the
script to be too demented and therefore rejected it. Miramax however, was immensely intrigued
with it and Pulp Fiction became Miramax s first fully funded film.
Now that the script had funding and was given the okay, parts had to be cast. Casting for Pulp

Elie Wiesel Contribution
The 20th century was a time of brutal wars and eradication of joy. On April 12, 1999, Elie Wiesel
stepped up to the podium, reflecting the violent times as they were months before entering a new
century. Wiesel knew very well that the uncountable tragedies had to change, and each individual
must exercise his or her own contributions in the face of justice and humanity. His devastating
experiences and tragic realizations produced a voice that carried around the world, revealing the
fundamental structure of humanity. Elie Wieselwas a Jewish American born in Romania. His
principles were influenced by being raised in a heavily religious and liberal family. In the 1940s,
his own country forced his family to flee to the ghettos, and not long after, Wiesel, a young Jewish
boy from a small town, was captured by Nazis, waking up to the perilous realization of eternal
infamy (Wiesel). In April 1945, after enduring through starvation and punishment, he was finally
liberated.
As he recovered, Wiesel studied in France as a journalist for Israeli and French publications. His
colleague inspired him to publish his experience during the Holocaust which became known as the
world famous Night. Wiesel continued to write several books in New York. Along with his
publications, he advocated equality, taught Judaism, and established a foundation to combat

Salt Gases Essay
for the inclusion of gases in salt deposits are outlined shortly in the following. Fig. 2 16 shows
schematically the geological conditions in marginal areas of the Zechstein basin which provided
the prerequisites for the inclusion of gases: tectonic events created passage ways (fissures) through
the salt sequence, allowing gases and brines to escape from their host formations below the
consolidated and therefore impermeable salt sequences. When contacting potash beds, the brines
caused alterations of the potash beds, dissolving the most soluble potash minerals and precipitating
less soluble salts; as the result, carnallite was replaced by sylvite and halite. In cases where such
processes extended laterally into potash beds, sylvite was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Although gas inclusions in salt rocks are extremely important in some salt and potash mining
districts for their effects on mining operations, they received little attention in textbooks which
are now available in English translations, e.g., Borchert and Muir (1964) and Braitsch (1971).
This may be due to the fact that, at the time when the German originals were written, these
matters were still under controversial discussion; see Gimm and Pforr (1964) with contributions
by Obert, Ignatieff, Panek, Baar. More recent publications (e.g., Gimm, 1968) indicate that the
views expressed by Baar (1954d, 1958,1962) have been generally accepted. As the formation of
gas inclusions in salt rocks requires special conditions, as outlined, such inclusions are rare in
salt sequences without potash salts, as no reaction salts could form. This is the reason why the
salt domes of the Gulf Coast are free from gas inclusions, with the exception of some cases
where gases were occluded in recrystallizing halite, or secondary halite which may have
crystallized from migrating solutions due to cooling. In contrast, the salt domes of northern
Europe are loaded with pockets of salt rocks with abundant gas inclusions; as a matter of fact,
several potash mines were abandoned at the beginning of this century because of the problems
caused by gas outbursts (Gimm, 1968, p. 553). To date, no gas inclusions have been encountered in

The euro (€) is the official currency of the Eurozone, which consists of 17 EU member states
using this currency. The euro is also the 2nd largest reserve currency as well as the 2nd most
traded currency in the world after the United States dollar. As of November 2013, with more than

circulation in the world, having surpassed the U.S. dollar. The US dollar ($) is the official
currency of the United States and its overseas territories. Just like the euro there are other
currencies pegged to it, such as the Bermudian Dollar. The US dollar is the fiat currency most used
in international transactions and is one of the world s most dominant reserve currencies.
After the 2008 market crash the exchange rate between the US Dollar and the Euro has been
increasing. While the Euro continues to gain value, the US Dollar has yet to fully recover the

Overview Of Anxiety
It is natural for a person to have a sense of stress and worry throughout the their daily
experiences. Whether it has to do with work, school or finances. Surprisingly it is also natural
for some people to experience fear, nervousness, and anxiousness out of nowhere. People may
think it is abnormal to have a rush of emotions out of the blue, but this is something a lot of
people in society have to deal with on a daily basis. The combination of these emotion reflexes is
what is known as anxiety. Anxiety is a mental disorder that makes a person have sudden unwanted
feelings of fear, anxiousness, and worrisome. Having an anxiety episode is something the can
frequently occur and take a troll on a person s mental and physical health. Anxiety is... Show more

They still have clear remembrance of what happened at the time and they may feel like it is
haunting them. Types of events that can lead to Post traumatic Stress Disorder are car accidents,
any type of abuse, military combat, etc. It is most common for veterans to have PTSD. Veterans
have witness many horrific scenes that their anxiety can be provoked by just a firework, which
would represent the sound of a gun going off. A person can have post traumatic traumatic stress
disorder if their behavior switches and becomes more aggressive. They can become hostile
towards others and socially isolate themselves, or they can be destructive. It is also common for
people with PTSD to loss interest in actives and trust in people. An example of PSTD is there is
a case study for a woman named Marian M, whose mother s parents are survivors of the
holocaust and relocated to the United States after losing family members in the concentration
camps. Her father s parents grew up during genocide, and Marians parents grew up during the
great depression (Ford 3). Marian s parents and grandparent were raised during tragic events that
took place around the world. Marian attended the 1972 Munich Olympics when a terrorist attack
took place. Although she was not physically hurt her mental health was damaged. During the
nights she would have nightmares of terrorist attacks or car accidents (Ford 4 5). This example
show how being the in a traumatic event can change a persons life. In the moment of these events
they are not sure if they will make it out alive, hearing people scream in horror or the sound of a
gun going off can stick with a person

Bar Baker Research Paper
Bart Baker I one of my favorite comedians. He makes the BEST parodies on youtube. The jokes
he makes are ridiculously hilarious. So much so that they make you laugh until your voice box
shrivels into dust (Spongebob). You won t notice you re not making a sound as you continue to
laugh yourself into a coma. But as you are in said coma, the margin helping you breath, is
cracked to the max because you re still somehow laughing. The doctors will be able to replace
your voice box from a donor while you re in the coma. Your still happening laughter will be so
strong that you ll be woken up. He first think you ll say when you wake up is nothing because you
still laughing. Then your kidneys will shut down because the magic of laughter is so strong

Odysseus And Amari And Epic Hero Journeys In The Odyssey...
Every now and then we read different stories, but we see the same things. In the Odyssey and
Copper Sun, the two main characters, Odysseus and Amari, shared the same qualities and Epic
Hero journeys. They had many obstacles and tribulations, but they worked through them to make it
to their destination. Odysseus and Amari have many similarities as well as differences. When an
epic hero, like Amari and Odysseus, has the opportunity to face the unknown, or has a crisis, and
has something to gain, this starts the beginning of their journey called The Call. During this
period, the heroes go through things, in their eyes, that is unimaginable or wasn t expected.
Odysseus s call was more voluntary and exciting than Amari s call because his Call was when he
won the Trojan War and could return home after ten years. Amari s Call was when she and a few
others from her tribe were captured and taken as slaves after her family was killed and her
village destroyed. Odysseus had a choice but Amari did not. Before The Call , Amari and
Odysseus characteristics affected and predestined their journey. Two epic hero qualities, Noble
Birth and Cultural Legend, set up Amari and Odysseus path. Odysseus Noble Birth quality was
that he was the son of Laertes, a hero, and his Cultural Legend was being a war hero and the
King of Ithaca. Amari s Noble Birth quality was that her family was considered royalty because
her father was an elder of her tribe, Ewe, he was a favored storyteller, and her family was skilled
weavers. Her Cultural Legend couldn t be fulfilled because she was to inherit the family business
of weaving. Although Amari didn t become a Cultural Legend, they both had purpose due to their
family s high rank in their culture. The next stage in an epic hero s journey is The Threshold.
This is where the hero takes off and meets helpers and mentors along the way. Odysseus threshold
was when Zeus guards and guides him, blessing him or punishing him for his actions. Amari s
Threshold was when she got on the slave ships to sail to America, meeting a mentor named Afi,
who encourages her and helps her through their long journey across the seas. She also meets a man
named Bill who helped her escape nights from abuse and

  • 2. Essay about Bone Dreams by Seamus Heaney Bone Dreams by Seamus Heaney An Analysis Bone Dreams is an obscure and difficult poem to understand. In all my searching on the internet, I found very little to help me in my analysis of this poem and so the ideas are basically my own. I might be wide of the mark, but for anybody struggling to understand this poem, it might at least give you some ideas of your own. I make no apology for asking questions or for sounding vague or even muddled in places. I hope that this essay is of help to somebody, somewhere. The poem begins in a thoughtful mood; the voice is relaxed, White bone found/on the grazing suggesting that the speaker is walking in the countryside when he discovers a piece of bone in the grass. He uses tactile ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Of course, you can also write with chalk, and the act of and implements of writing are often found in the metaphors and similes of Heaney s poetry. In the third stanza, the speaker touches it again and it is almost as if this act of touching for a second time sparks off a series of thoughts, tangential in quality, and as tangents do, they move freely from one image to another, imbuing the writing with a dreamlike quality. It is almost as if the bone has him in a powerful trance. The bone, which has become part of the landscape, has transformed into a device for releasing thought processes. Landscape, being one of the favourite themes of Heaney, is in itself a part of history. It is the history of Ireland and its people and its landscape that often preoccupies the poet and, here, we see some of this preoccupation allowed flight as his mind takes off in a series of flickering thoughts and associations. Almost as soon as this begins to occur, his thoughts start to take a hostile turn as he envisages being able to, wind it [the bone] in the sling of mind , and pitch it at England , the old enemy. Again there is the idea of the bone as stone, with the mind as a catapult. This obviously draws on the myth of David and Goliath, where the bigger and stronger giant is vanquished by a small boy who is only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Information Security Information Security As the world migrates to the digital village, a lot of digital data and information is generated and transmitted. In the same line, there is a growing need for data repositories or data banks. Information security is chiefly concerned about prevention, detection and response to computer threats or risks (CISCO, 2013). Protecting organizational information and systems is a daunting task because of the emerging and advanced threats to information technology resources. Securing information technology infrastructure and informational assets is a continuous cycle as advancements in technology presents a new breed of threats (Hunt, 1998). In the current business landscape, accounting systems are typically modules of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Types of firewalls According to CISCO (2013), firewalls are categorized into software and hardware types. Hardware Firewalls and their advantages Hardware firewalls are specialized network systems that contain specialized software and hardware. When they are configured appropriately, these firewalls provide a protective barrier that hide an entity s internal computers and applications from the outside world. Hardware firewalls can also shield organization department; for instance, the human resources from another department such as the finance department. Hardware firewalls are mostly applicable in scenarios where entities require a unitary information security umbrella with the capability of protecting multiple systems (CISCO, 2013). This reason points out why most FORTUNE 500 company networks have implemented hardware firewalls. However, since hardware firewalls are specialized devices or systems, they tend to be complicated, expensive, tricky to configure and difficult to upgrade. That is to say, they are best reserved for Information Technology experts or consultants trained to assess, install, configure and maintain such systems. In addition, the low end hardware firewalls currently found in network devices such as routers and switches for homes and small businesses are also limited to locations. The sport of baseball has the biggest players salaries. The result of this is more and more players are using steroids. It is a drug that will do serious harm to the body, such as kidney disease and liver failure, but that does not stop players from using it. Athletes use steroids to improve their performance and to prevent muscle breakdown. Steroids are an illegal substance, which can only be prescribed by a doctor. This is where the supply and demand factor comes into play; the doctors have what the players need in order to improve their ability to run faster, hit farther, and jump higher or even to quickly recover from an injury. Players are willing to pay whatever amount of money or anything else a doctor might ask for in order to inject them with the drug, especially since these doctors know ways of bypassing the steroid drug test. Ken Caminiti was the first baseball player to admit to using steroids; he never thought he was doing anything illegal because everyone around him was doing it: I can t say, Don t do it, not when the guy next to you is as big as a house and he s going to take your job and make the money (gtd. in Zacharias). His relatively elderly parents, affluent familyhistory, and the presence of his mothers maiden sister and aged father all combined to create an environment that was both socially and emotionally conservative. Adams s mother spent much of her time brooding and fretting over her husband s inability to restore the Adams fortune, leaving an ambivalent imprint on her son. Yet, the types of legal assistance might not always be the same, depending on the individual industry and situational analysis of the business in question. This is a comparison of traditional and nontraditional litigation services that are often used by contemporary businesses, with special attention paid to Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). First, to understand the newer, nontraditional forms of litigation it is imperative to set up a sound foundation for understanding the more traditional forms of litigation. Essentially, traditional litigation is the process of going to court to handle disputes of both business and civil matters. As such, litigation is the traditional process, whereby both parties use the court system and procedures to resolve their dispute (Lewis, 2012). Here, legal advice and representation is provided by lawyers who act on behalf of the parties involved in the dispute. In this traditional form, the parties can not talk to each other at all during the context of the dispute process. In contrast to the more traditional styles of litigation, Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) is much different. Essentially, this more alternative style to approaching litigation needs aims to resolve disputes before they have to actually go through the expensive and complicated process of litigation. Here the research claims that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Persuasive Essay On Sexual Education Let s teach our kids about sex Does sex education encourage sex? Many parents are afraid that talking about sex with their teenagers will be taken as permission for the teen to have sex. Nothing could be further from the truth. If anything, the more children learn about sexuality from talking with their parents and teachers and reading accurate books, the less they feel compelled to find out for themselves (Spock 62). I will argue teaching sexual education once a child starts kindergarten will have the most effect on their life. I strongly agree it will lower teen pregnancy, teach kids that sex is a desire, and it s okay be curious. With discussing sex earlier on, it would help them realize to take it more serious, less kids would regret having sex before meeting the right person, and it would teach them relationship advice. Even though adults don t think it s right for kids to be taught because starting in kindergarten, their too young and might think it s us telling them to have sex. The purpose of my argument is to show parents sex causes curiosity into children s minds and they need to be taught the right way from the wrong way and don t need to be bashed for having curiosity about sex. According to the US Census Bureau, the number of Americans over age 84 is projected to more than triple between 2010 and 2050. Collective efficacy is defined as social control exerted by cohesive communities in which there exists a mutual trust and shared responsibilities including the care of children (Siegel, 2011). • 25. The Beauty Myth By Naomi Wolf The Beauty Myth, written by Naomi Wolf, is a study of how ideas of beauty oppress and restrict women from fully realising their potential. Published in 1990, many of the battles of second wave feminism had been won, which left many women in Wolf s position confused as to why women were still struggling. Wolf argues that as women have shed traditional values of purity and submission, they have instead become obsessed with the beauty myth. The more legal and material hindrances which women have broken through, the more strictly and heavily and gruelling images of female beauty have come to weigh upon us (Wolf 1990). As women have gained power and freedom, society has instead forced them to waste their new found freedom and resources on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wolf argues that women as a whole could achieve much more personally, and further the causes of feminism politically, if they were not so preoccupied with the obsession of their attractiveness, their youth, and their ability to remain thin. Another key element of Wolf s work is her focus on the deliberate and pervasive harm that women are suffering due to the beauty myth. This included the increased rates and severity of eating disorders and strict dieting, which inhibits women s strength both physically and mentally. Dieting is the most potent political sedative in women s history; a quietly mad population is a tractable one (Wolf 1990). Starvation inhibits the brain from thinking of anything other than one s one survival, and therefore food, and this is a state that significant proportions of modern women exist in. Eating disorders can also lead to other mental and physical health issues, reducing women s abilities to succeed in the outside world, all because they are too good at what society is pressuring them to do. Another key way in which Wolf sees the physical harm of the beauty myth is in cosmetic surgery. The United States cosmetic surgical industry was worth $300 million when Wolf first published this book in 1991, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She was described as a bright, outgoing girl with a love for athletics. Alyssa was fourteen years old when she was fatally shot by an active shooter, Nikolas Cruz, at her high school. The issue of gun violence is a very controversial issue that splits our country into two opinions those who are for stricter gun control laws and those who are against them. The conversations about this topic have increased significantly in the past year due to recent events. The 2017 Las Vegas shooting and the 2018 Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting were two particular instances that shocked and outraged the nation. Gun violence is a fairly new concern as far as problems in The United Statesgo, with seven of the eight deadliest shootings of U.S. history having occurred after 1990. This is a key piece of information, because studies have shown that while the number of shootings has not necessarily increased in recent years, the number of fatalities within each has. Therefore, the actual root of this issue is the guns being used. Copper carbonate, CuCO3 decomposes on heating to form one of these oxides and an equation can be written for each possible reaction Equation 1: 2CuCO3 (s) Cu2O (s) + 2CO2 (g) + O2 (g) Equation 2: CuCO3 (s) CuO (s) + CO2 (g) The aim of this experiment is to prove which equation is correct. This can be done by volumetric analysis i.e. calculating the volume of gas produced. This is then compared to the calculated volume of gas produced in each equation and the equation with the nearest volume of gas is correct. This is a thermal decomposition reaction and when an element like copper can form two oxides, which one forms is based ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is also not sufficient to simply consider the stability of a compound with respect to its elements. It is necessary to consider the stability of copper (I) oxide with respect to copper (II) oxide, as well as with respect to copper and oxygen. It would also be important to consider the stability of CuCO3 with respect to both oxides, to see which reaction is energetically most likely. So it is clear that the value of ГЋ Hf suggests that Cu2O will be formed, but that this will not necessarily be the case because of the other factors involved. Copper (II) compounds are by far the most common they are called cupric . Copper (I) compounds cuprous compounds are far less common. Copper atoms most readily go to oxidation state +2, by a variety of reactions. Cupric compounds are unstable in the presence of water, so must either be insoluble or form complexes with other molecules. The equations are written in moles and through my background knowledge I now know the definition of a mole, 1mole of any substance contains the same number of particles as 12g of carbon 12. 1 mole of any element contains 6.01 x 1023 atoms. 1 mole of a molecular compound contains 6.01 x 1023 molecules. This means that in a reaction in which 2 molecules of one substance react with 1 molecule of another for instance the formation of water: 2H2 + O2 2H2O, 2 moles of hydrogen molecules will react with 1 mole of oxygen molecules to give 2 moles of water molecules. Data on Jews, booze, and prohibition is familiar to scholars who study the histories of New York City, Chicago, and New Jersey. Much to her credit, Davis also gathers information from southern locales such as Atlanta and California. In Robert Rockaway s book But He Was Good to His Mother, he examined Jewish gangsters in the early twentieth century and came to the conclusion that the reason a large number of them worked in the illegal alcohol business was because of the profit caused by prohibition and the intense thirst society developed for alcohol that came with it. When he studied further he realized that these gangsters running illegal operations often were more caring and human than people believed. Incorporated into this review are studies of the real life activity of these gangsters through information that Rockaway was able to recover. As Jewish immigrants found their place in nineteenth and twentieth century America, alcohol was never far from their lips. True, Jews were known for their abstemious drinking habits, but the production and sale of alcoholic beverages offered economic opportunity in the United States as it had in Europe, where some Jews were vintners, brewers, liquor distributors, and tavern owners (Davis). However, if alcohol selling brought prosperity, it also brought the Jews into the world of mobs and gangsters. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. The Conversion Of Solar ( Pv ) Energy Into Hydrogen Gas... Name: Institution: Course: Instructor: Date: The Conversion of Solar (PV) Energy into Hydrogen Gas for Fuel Cells. Introduction Solar photovoltaic (PV) systems convert sunlight into direct current. For this to be achieved, semi conducting materials would be required to induce the photovoltaic effect. A photovoltaic system comprises solar panels, each fitted with a number of solar cells that supply solar energy to the system. In the absence of sunlight, solar power would be available for household or commercial lighting applications (Ratlamwala 86). This paper examines the feasibility of converting solar PV electricity into hydrogen for fuel cells based on: cost of hydrogen production (per kilogram), the quantity of solar power required to generate hydrogen (per kilogram), the feasibility of the technology in the UAE amid the costs and efficiencies of the system components. Question 1 Just like the rest of the world, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Middle East have intensified efforts to curb the global warming menace. Several independent studies (e.g. Harder 790 Radhi 18) have pointed out that overdependence on fossil fuels tends to heighten global warming. At a glance, hydrogen can be considered as an ideal substitute to fossil fuels. Hydrogen provides about three times of renewable energy harnessed from natural gas. When hydrogen is used in energy production, pure water is emitted as the sole by product of the process (Radhi 12). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Dispute is the formal name of dysfunctional conflict, which is viewed as a kind of conflict manifesting itself in a distinct, justiciable issues (Brown and Marriot 1999). This view indicates that one more feature of the dispute is its justiciability. Burton (1993) further distinguished the two concepts from a time scale perspective, who suggested that compared with conflict, dispute which is supposed to be easy to resolve is a kind of short term disagreement that are embedded in a larger and longer term conflict. Thus, from this analysis of conflict and dispute, it can be suggested that conflict is inevitable while dispute is needed to be avoided. As to the reason why conflicts are inevitable, Karl Marx provided a classic view of class struggle, which said the struggle for scarce resources is the fundamental reason of conflicts. Inherited from Karl Marx s conflict theory, German sociologist Ralf Dahrendorf pointed out that it is the unbalanced distribution of scarce resources including authority and wealth that results in conflicts (Dahrendorf 1963). Dahrendorf (1963) later concluded that because of the existence of ruler and the ruled in the society, the characteristics of inequality would hardly be removed by society itself, which indicates that conflict is a trait of the society. This view is supported and further developed by Acland (1990, p69), who suggested that conflict is the nature ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Fig. 2 16 shows schematically the geological conditions in marginal areas of the Zechstein basin which provided the prerequisites for the inclusion of gases: tectonic events created passage ways (fissures) through the salt sequence, allowing gases and brines to escape from their host formations below the consolidated and therefore impermeable salt sequences. When contacting potash beds, the brines caused alterations of the potash beds, dissolving the most soluble potash minerals and precipitating less soluble salts; as the result, carnallite was replaced by sylvite and halite. Although gas inclusions in salt rocks are extremely important in some salt and potash mining districts for their effects on mining operations, they received little attention in textbooks which are now available in English translations, e.g., Borchert and Muir (1964) and Braitsch (1971). This may be due to the fact that, at the time when the German originals were written, these matters were still under controversial discussion; see Gimm and Pforr (1964) with contributions by Obert, Ignatieff, Panek, Baar. More recent publications (e.g., Gimm, 1968) indicate that the views expressed by Baar (1954d, 1958,1962) have been generally accepted. As the formation of gas inclusions in salt rocks requires special conditions, as outlined, such inclusions are rare in salt sequences without potash salts, as no reaction salts could form. This is the reason why the salt domes of the Gulf Coast are free from gas inclusions, with the exception of some cases where gases were occluded in recrystallizing halite, or secondary halite which may have crystallized from migrating solutions due to cooling. In contrast, the salt domes of northern Europe are loaded with pockets of salt rocks with abundant gas inclusions; as a matter of fact, several potash mines were abandoned at the beginning of this century because of the problems caused by gas outbursts (Gimm, 1968, p. 553). • 43. Odysseus And Amari And Epic Hero Journeys In The Odyssey... Every now and then we read different stories, but we see the same things. In the Odyssey and Copper Sun, the two main characters, Odysseus and Amari, shared the same qualities and Epic Hero journeys. They had many obstacles and tribulations, but they worked through them to make it to their destination. Odysseus and Amari have many similarities as well as differences. When an epic hero, like Amari and Odysseus, has the opportunity to face the unknown, or has a crisis, and has something to gain, this starts the beginning of their journey called The Call. During this period, the heroes go through things, in their eyes, that is unimaginable or wasn t expected. Odysseus s call was more voluntary and exciting than Amari s call because his Call was when he won the Trojan War and could return home after ten years. Amari s Call was when she and a few others from her tribe were captured and taken as slaves after her family was killed and her village destroyed. Odysseus had a choice but Amari did not. Before The Call , Amari and Odysseus characteristics affected and predestined their journey. Two epic hero qualities, Noble Birth and Cultural Legend, set up Amari and Odysseus path. Odysseus Noble Birth quality was that he was the son of Laertes, a hero, and his Cultural Legend was being a war hero and the King of Ithaca. Amari s Noble Birth quality was that her family was considered royalty because her father was an elder of her tribe, Ewe, he was a favored storyteller, and her family was skilled weavers. Her Cultural Legend couldn t be fulfilled because she was to inherit the family business of weaving. Although Amari didn t become a Cultural Legend, they both had purpose due to their family s high rank in their culture. The next stage in an epic hero s journey is The Threshold. This is where the hero takes off and meets helpers and mentors along the way. Odysseus threshold was when Zeus guards and guides him, blessing him or punishing him for his actions. Amari s Threshold was when she got on the slave ships to sail to America, meeting a mentor named Afi, who encourages her and helps her through their long journey across the seas.
