Research
• The strengths of doing the research PowerPoint is that you get to look at
existing games. This is a strength as you get to look at existing products
which have been successful and you get inspiration from there product.
Another strength is that you get to analyse the existing products which
makes you think deeper about what you are going to include and what the
colours and props symbolise and mean. The final strength is that you get
to thing about you're target audience for example age range and gender
this is a strength as it prepares you for what to include in your game and
where to target it. This all helped me when making my game , this is
because It prepared me for what was to come. The weaknesses of the
research was that all the games are the same genre and all look very
similar this is a weakness as you then repeat the same things over and
over again. If doing this again I would maybe add more detail and different
annotations to the games. This has had a positive effect overall as I have
included similar items which I saw in the games I annotated.
Planning
• The strengths of planning is that you generate ideas quickly by doing a
mind map and mood board . The mind map is quick method to think of
ideas which was good for this topic as we didn't’t have much time. The
mind map was also useful , this is because you got to experiment with
other game ideas , for example you got to think about the possible props ,
aims and characters for that specific game. The mood board is also a quick
method which was also useful for this topic. The mood board was useful
when doing this topic as it helped me think about possible colours I would
use as well as possible props and characters. this helped me create my
game. The weaknesses of my planning is that you may want to change
ideas later on and you can not unless you are willing to go back and
change your planning PowerPoint. When doing this again I would probably
have more detail on the mood board as some of the pictures are very
similar.
Time Management
I did manage my time very well , this is because I completed the work on time
and backed it up so that I wouldn't’t lose it , for example I used email as well
as a memory stick to backup my work. With my additional time I went back
and checked over my work along with making vital improvements. Overall I
feel that I did the best I could do however in hindsight I wish I had asked for
more help when struggling on some topics.
Technical Qualities
The similarities in these games are that they both include animated characters which is
very common in arcade fighting games. Another similarity is that they both include dark
background which has been used so that the characters stand out. The final similarity is
that they are all wearing karate robes due to karate being a sport which is associated
with fighting. However there is many differences for example in the street fighter game
they have included a karate dojo type building and some props in the background
however I have just included 2 street lights. Another difference is that in game a they
have included powers and other actions / moves. However in my game I have only
included punching and kicking. The final difference is that they have included several
different background colors however in my game I have only included 1 simple colored
background.
Aesthetic Qualities
In my personal opinion I feel that my work looks good and is quite creative. When watching
back my game I would say that I like the ending the most , this is because I included specific
sound and a KO screen which took a bit of effort. Another aspect I like is the start screen this is
because I feel that It makes my game look like any other game. If I was going to go back to this
game I would probably include some more moves , this is because so far there basic moves like
kicking and punching. I may also make the game longer because at the minute the game only
runs for about 15 seconds which is not very long. The strengths of this game are that it looks
like a typical arcade game . Another strength is that the characters look kind of professional
and look as if they belong in a real game. The weaknesses of this game is that it only lasts 15
seconds. Another weakness it that there is only 2 characters and there is not any character
selection.
Audience Appeal
I think that I have appealed to my target audience very well , this is because I feel as if it
appeals to the gender , age , physiographic and social status. One specific bit of my game
which appeals to my target audience is the characters fighting , this appeals to the male
target audience as stereotypically men are normally more violent than women. The
characters also appeal to the age target audience , this is because of the characters ages
are similar to the target audience (15-20). The social status is not really shown in my game
as it is very hard to show. The physiographic is shown here because both characters are
fighting trying to win and it is a fun game.
Peer
Feedback
Feedback 1
• What did you like about the product?
Is has a very good quality to its design and functions
well for a pixel game. I like the recognisable design
for games like street fighter.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
To have the background more detailed for the
game.
Add new moves or special effects.
Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
– I liked the effect that the characters displayed.
– The level design is very basic which makes the
characters a lot more complex.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– There could be a more detailed background.
– Game could be longer
Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
I liked the sound effects of the game and the movement
of each character in the game that you produced. Also I
liked how you used the health bar as an effect of the
characters getting hurt.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
• You could have improved the backgorund colour
scheme into something more cooler or similar
the genre of the game.
Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer
feedback?
• I agree with the comments on the background , this is because personally I think
it is very simple and basic. I also agree with the sound effects being good as they
took me a while to find. finally I also agree with the functions of the characters
being recognized in the feedback as that took me the longest to do in this project.
• What do you disagree with from your peer
feedback?
• I disagree with the effect the characters have caused within the game as I do not think
they cause that much effect.
• I also disagree with having a different background colour as I feel that a dark colour
makes the fighters stand out more however I would add more detail to the background.
Peer Feedback Summary
One change I would make is to change the background for my game , this is
because so far my background is very simple and basic. I would also change this
because people have suggested it whilst looking at the feedback. For my
background I may add possibly a dojo or something with meaning and related to
mixed martial arts. Another change I may make is to make the characters have
more of an effect for example give them special moves or make them bigger. This
is because personally I do not think they cause much of an effect. Finally another
change I may make is possibly make the game longer as it is only currently 15
seconds , to do this I could add a character selection screen or a loading screen.
This is because the audience do not get to see much of the game. This was also
shown within my feedback therefore I want to improve that.
