Jack Edwards proposes a weekly music magazine project focused on print and photography. He will create a magazine front cover, double page spread, and merchandise conveying conventions of hip-hop music magazines. Edwards will research existing magazines, complete studio photography, and include typical magazine elements like mastheads and headlines. He plans to evaluate his work by comparing screenshots to other products and getting peer feedback through surveys.

Project proposal title and date:
Weekly music
Main area of activity:
Print and photography
Rationale:.
Throughout the year I have found the rotations helpful. This was because I got to see what I really
liked and what I didn’t like as much. The rotation I liked the most was when we were doing print.
This is because I felt like the research and the other power points went very well and set me up for
production the best out of the 3 rotations. This was because I felt that it was the easiest for me too
look and analyse magazine covers and double page spreads, this was also because I enjoyed
them the most. The skills I have learnt from this is that by looking at possibly 3 similar products no
matter what area you can start to recognize specific conventions. I also learnt many skills during
production those of which will be used in this product. These are those in Photoshop. The one
process I have learnt in Photoshop and will be used in this was to remember to line up my tech
and the images. Using the ruler tool does this.
Project Concept:
For my project concept I plan on creating a magazine front cover, double page spread and some
merchandise. This is because I am interested in print based media and specifically magazines.
This is because I like reading them due to them and getting information about things that are
happening. The magazines I look at are those surrounding hip-hop music. This is why I want to
create products that convey to this. This is because I am interested and passionate about looking
at music magazines. To do this I will Include the conventions, which are often used in music
magazines. These conventions will be some that are conventions of magazines and some, which
are conventions of hip-hop. The conventional elements of magazines, which I will include, will be a
masthead, headlines, covers lines and a main image. I will include these main conventional
elements in my magazine front cover. This is because I want it to look as professional as possible.
This is because I am interested in magazines so want to make mine look good. To do this I will edit
my images to make them look more professional. The photography I will include will be studio-
based photography. This is because I will use the lights and the white backdrop to make the image
look a lot clearer and therefore more professional. The studio photography will be used in my final
product, as I want to the image to just be focused on the artist. This is because the magazine front
cover will include headlines using his name. This will then clearly show the audience who this is. I
will also include some empty space at the sides and around the artist. This is so that I can put text
or possibly other images and they would stand out on the white backdrop. For my research I will
look at other magazines and other photography, which is similar, and annotate them. This will be
done because I will then be able to look at the angles and also the lighting they have used and
why they have used it. For my This will be done in adobe Photoshop. I will also include font as well
that looks like something you would see on a magazine. This will be similar font to other exiting
music magazines like billboard and XXL; from these I have established that these magazines use
large fonts. The hip-hop conventions I will convey to are those such as including a main image,
which includes baggy clothing and clothing which is interesting and unique. I will also include
possibly an article about the artist, which will include conventions such as wealth and fame. This
will all be done to appeal to my target audience, which is specifically 16-19 years old who are
male, and into hip-hop music.

How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
I plan to evaluate my work by taking screenshots of my production and also the research I have
conducted. From this I will be able to look at and compare this to exiting products. Another way I
will do this is to get peoples opinions. Myself conducting and sending out a survey could do this by
peer feedback or possibly. This will give me an Idea of what I need to include or change.
