Production Process Evaluation
Research
• I feel that the research went really well, it contained a lot of information
which helped me to analyse the chosen product and point out the factors
that made it successful so I can hope to use it in my own
• I looked at what problems the game I had analysed had and tried to avoid
involving them within my game
• I looked at the strengths and the type of gameplay that made it addictive
• I saw that the colours stood out and so I decided to make this happen in
my game as well
• my questionnaire was very successful, I found from it that their was an
incredibly mixed response
• This helped me to understand that it has to appeal from lots of different
angles
Planning
• I feel that my planning was very thorough, it gave the potential layouts
that I could’ve chosen for my product
• It helped me decide that with the type of game I was doing and the fact
that I would be restricted with the amount of pixels I had to work with
that using any type of font that isn’t incredibly simple would be very
difficult
• I decided because of this to involve as little writing as possible and only
use numbers or letters where necessary
• I did some contingency planning and because of this all the potential
issues did not happen because it was planned so carefully
• Even if the potential issues did become a reality I don’t believe it would’ve
made too much problems for me because in my contingency planning I
made sure to have a backup
Time Management
• My time management was kept in place by my schedule
• This ensured that I always knew where I was meant to be in
my work so if I fell behind schedule I knew where I had to be
by the end of that day
• I noted down the resources required so I could keep track of
those and make sure I had access to those things on the day I
required them
• It helped to keep me organised and helped me keep track of
my day to day progress
Target Audience Appeal
• My target audience was quite broad because I wanted to get as bigger
audience as possible but not everyone can be included
• I knew that realistically there is more males than females that enjoy
gaming and therefor it would be more intelligent to mainly base it towards
them but still keep it open for both genders to find interesting
• The age I chose was 11 but I believed that anyone above the age of 7
should be able to enjoy the game
• I tried to direct my game towards the needs driven because I decided that
if I add a few aspects of competition and make it addictive this would
mean that the needs driven audience should end up really enjoying the
game
Technical Qualities
These are both platform games but have a very
Different style of play, the top one is a coin
collecting game that looks to be inspired by
Mario. The colours are bright and this helps the
character to stand out from the background, this
Is a technique that is used in both products. The
Gameplay in the second game (the one I created)
Is quite different, though it may have similar
Control types they do have different gameplay
and the objectives are completely different
Aesthetic Qualities
I believe that my work did
look good because of the
quality in design and the
characters.
The lack of pixels did limit
the amount of creativity I
could experiment with
All the colors stood out
enough so you could tell one
part from another
If I could redo this project
I would add sound effects
to represent the things
going on throughout the
game
If I could redo this project
I would make there for
slides so the movement
looked smoother
If I could redo this project
I would add more falling
rocks and more types of
power-ups
If I could redo this project
I would add in an item
which can repair a part of
the floor that has been
damaged
I think the background
was very well designed
I am very happy with the
animation of the falling
rocks within the game
I am really pleased in the way
that I showed only a short bit
of gameplay but within that
time you can learn what the
gameplay will consist of and
how to play it
Audience Appeal
I made my work very bright colored so this would look attractive. This is because I
want to attract the younger viewers as well and bright colors are a good way to do
this. I decided that I would target my game to those who are needs driven, I did this
by making my game the sort that is competitive so you and your friends will compete
to gain the highest score. I also decided that if I add power-ups to the game it will
make the game more exciting and will make people addicted to it so they will enjoy
the game more and will be more likely to play the game more. My audience (based on
the questionnaire) was incredibly varied, more so than I imagined. Because of this I
tried to look at good aspects from popular games to see if I could extract the good
parts of the game and leave the bad parts behind. I did this with ‘ragdoll’ a popular
online game that is based around dodging objects but looking at the game I decided
that it didn't’t really have enough to it, it became boring after a short period of time
and therefor needed extra things adding to it. I also decided that the way the main
character moves around makes life incredibly difficult for the user because sometimes
there is nothing you can do to avoid the falling objects so I extracted the good parts
from this game but left the bad parts behind.
Peer
Feedback
Feedback 1
• What did you like about the product?
– The detail – it looks professional.
– The design- l like how you made your game in a rainforest and
also I like how you used rocks as objects to dodge .
– The colours- they fit very well with each other.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
I would not make any changes to it because I think it looks really good
and realistic.
Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
• The animation is very simple and has realistic ‘forest’ colours. It also
has a good fantasy setting and a simple plot of trying to avoid
getting killed by rocks. The background, the rocks and the bridge
type ledge for a lot of detail and shading into it.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
• The animation was way to slow and has no pacing in it. Plus, it
needs some soundtracks and sound effects into it. I also like to add
that the graphics on the character need more detail into it.
Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
• Really like the animation. The effect of bolder/rocks when smashing
the ground and onto the shield were cool.
• I don’t know what the green thing is but it gave you an extra life. I
thought that was cool.
• Moving around and avoiding and getting the extra life is cool.
• What improvements could have been made to the product?
• Only negative thing I can think of is that the quality of the
animation was low. I couldn’t see it so well.
Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
– I agreed with almost all of the feedback, the positives and
the negatives, I liked the honesty and agree that I could’ve
added in some more sounds to represent the things going
on within the game
– I agreed however difficult it may have been with the time I
was given that it would have probably been better with
more animation in the movement of the character
• What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
– I only disagree about the quality of the video, although it
could’ve been better the quality of it on my Photoshop
document was very good but for some reason it converted
very poorly into a video document
Peer Feedback Summary
• I could’ve added in some more sounds to represent the things going on within
the game so it would feel more realistic, this would add a lot more to the
game and I feel this could’ve proven to be massively beneficial
• it would have probably been better with more animation in the movement of
the character because I feel it was a bit jumpy between each piece of
movement, I believe that this would not be a problem if I had more scenes
and lots of sharp movement so display his walking and maybe even an
animation to show that his legs are moving rather than him just moving along
with no movement whatsoever unless he is to raise his shield to protect
himself from falling rocks
• I would try and make it longer because I believe that from the way that I made
my project the gameplay is not as simple as it might appear at first and
therefore a longer stretch of gameplay would probably give the audience a
better idea about what the game is supposed to be about and how it is
intended to be played
