Working Title:
Dead Escape
Audience:
The age range of my audience is 16-19 years, which is the age range of my age, so I will be
making a game for people my age therefore I can use my thoughts as well as others to make it
appeal to this age range. This age range may not like an old fashioned/retro game on paper,
however after getting feedback from my interviews, they seem to like the idea of the game. The
gender that I will appeal to the most will likely be male because stereotypically males prefer action
and some violence in games and video games in general, however I will still appeal to females just
not as much. I will appeal to the social classes C1,C2 and D mostly, meaning in the middle, so not
the very high earning class and not the very low earning class, and the social classes I am
appealing to most is the most popular in the UK. I am not making my game to appeal to a certain
psychographic as I think all types can play it and it doesn’t matter what their personality is like.
Rationale (approx. 100 words)
At the start of the year on my Irn-Bru project I made a basic video game, with pixel art and
animation using Photoshop, therefore I know the basic of how to make a pixel art video game and
where to start, which will help me in this project as I don’t need to learn the basic and how the
animation works and I can start early and learn more things to improve my game.
The next project I worked on this year was my short film and I used Premiere Pro to do so, which
is the software I will be using in this project to add music and sound effects to my game and again
this is helpful as I know the basic tools on this program and I don’t need to learn the basics,
making it easier to get started on my project.
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
The concept for my project is to make a video game, and I will do this by drawing different layers of
pixel art on Photoshop and make it look like their moving using the timeline tool. After I have made
the visual aspects of my video game I will then use Premiere Pro to add music and sound effects,
and I will gather the sound effects by myself using an audio recorder. The research I will be
conducting for this project is first of all evaluating and existing product and how the game
looks/works and why it is popular/unpopular and what I can take from this to use in my video game
production. Then I will make a mind map to display the ideas I have for my game and create a
mood board to give a visual representation of my ideas. I will then evaluate four existing products
that are similar to the idea for my game and write a summary talking about the aspects that appear
in all the games and what I can take from these games as ideas that I can use in my game. After
this I will ask three questions to three different people, from the age range of 16-19 year olds,
about the aspects of my game and their opinion on my game ideas.
Evaluation (approx. 50 words)
How do you plan to evaluate the work? Reference conducting on-going evaluation (Production
Reflections) and your final self-reflection (Evaluation), analysing your work and its outcomes.
How will this process help developing your working practices as you continue with your
study/media career?
After production experiments, I will reflect on my work and talk about the aspects that went well
and what improvements I can make for my final product. For my final product, I will evaluate it and
discuss the good and bad aspects such as appearance, flow/movements and gameplay. I will
compare my game to an existing product and discuss what is similar and how professional my
game looks and I will get feedback from others to get their opinion on my final product.
