Obesity Public Law
Picture a world where a child could leave their school and walk into a fast food restaurant, where
vending companies make millions of dollars a year by placing their machines in schools, where more
than one third of adults are considered obese, and a world where obesity is a bigger health problem
than hunger. This world is not made up; it is the world we live in today. Where would you go to find
help for this pandemic? Some say the government should take fault, but people are responsible for
their own health.
Muffin tops, Weight Watchers, and Atkins are some of the vocabulary used for the horizontally
challenged. These words and others are the overflow of a much greater problem, obesity. People today
have made being inactive and overindulging ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The government presently has programs in place that are meant to urge people to deal with their
weight. Cities generally have parks which supply free exercise related areas to the public. While the
government offers resources for people to challenge obesity, the government should let each [person]
take responsibility for [their] diet and lifestyle. (Balko) An individual, not the government, pays the
consequences of obesity in their value of life. In fact, the government should not pay for any backlash
of obesity, because it removes a person s own accountability, but we re likely to make better decisions
when someone else isn t paying for the consequences. (Balko). Obesity does not occur in a day or a
week, but through a sequence of choices and routines, which form a lifestyle. A law highlights a
problem and provides a solution, this procedure is often efficient in dealing with the problem. But as
for the growing problem of obesity, solutions suggested are usually short term regulations which
cannot always connect a multi generational problem. Instead of taking away temptations, such as fast
food chains or unhealthy foods, the government should continue encouraging people to live a healthy
life. The benefit of healthy living is that it is not limited to today, if prioritized, healthy living can
become a long lasting

The Political Compass
Politics is intricate and complex, not black or white, therefore deciding where one stands isn t as
simple as being either liberal or conservative . Thus, a more three dimensional approach was created:
The Political Compass. This multifaceted analysis includes not only the traditional economic stance
but a social stance as well. Although someone claims they re a liberal, they might tend towards
communism. With the traditional left or right scale, it would be impossible to know that; The Political
Compass, however, has a dimension for fascism and anarchism along with communism and neo
liberalism which would indicate both the economic scale (communism) and social scale (libertarian).
It is also a more accurate way to determine where certain politicians lie. Take Angela Merkel,
Chancellor of Germany. She s a moderate neo liberalist who is neither full fascist or anarchist. By
understanding her policies and background and comparing her to others on the Political Compass, one
can see that this is, in fact, true. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The CDU is a liberal conservative party and those apart of it tend to be center right on the traditional
left right scale. According to The Political Compass, Merkel is pulled more towards neo liberalism,
which means that she supports a free market. The CDU implemented Germany s Social Market
Economy, an economy that doesn t want the government to have complete control over prices. This
shows that Merkel is indeed a more neo liberalist than communist. However, Germany s current
economy still has regulations in place that prevent the market from being wholly free, which is why
Merkel cannot be classified as a full neo liberalist. She also grew up in East Germany, the section of
Germany that was a proponent of communism and was a part of the Free German youth, a communist
organization. In the writer s opinion, this proves that Merkel is positioned correctly on the Political

The Effects Of US Sanctions On Iran
U.S Sanctions on Iran
Anna Marie Contreras
35N Advanced Leaders Course
Introduction
Currently, numerous sanctions target the Iranian economy. These sanctions are implemented and
enforced by the United States of America, The European Union, and several other United Nation
members to include; Japan, the Republic of Korea, Canada, Australia, Norway, Switzer. Fathollah
nejad, A. (2013). These measures are necessary to enforce international laws through means other than
war.
These sanctions range from financial institutions, oil refinery and production, third party investors,
weapons trade, and investment banking. Unfortunately, these sanctions have yet to effect a change in

The hostage situation received more coverage in the media and politics than any event since World
War II. They were finally released in 1981. In 1985, the U.S provided weapons to Iran to fund
operations to free American hostages in Lebanon. After embezzlements and illegal money transfers to
South America, this incident threatened U.S political relations around the world. Later, the USS

was mistaken for a fighter jet. 1997 brought the election of Iranian President Mohammad Khatami

Symbolism In The Glass Menagerie
Taylor swift writes all her songs reflecting her boyfriends. Likewise, Tennessee WIlliams uses his play
The Glass Menagerie to symbolize his personal life. The play is about the Wingfield family. A
fatherless family that includes Tom Wingfield as the narrator of the play and a character in it.
Tennessee Williams uses his memory play The Glass Menagerie to symbolically reflect his life
through the character of Tom Wingfield.
Tennessee williams first uses Tom Wingfield s job to reflect upon his life. In the play, Tom works in a
warehouse making shoes. That is revealed to us in an argument he has with his mother, Amanda. Tom
shouts to her, Listen !You think I m crazy about the warehouse... You think I m in love with the
Continental Shoemakers (20). In the same way, Tennessee Williams worked in a shoe
company(DVD). Tom is unhappily working in the shoe factory. Working every day in a job he hates.
While, Williams s was also miserable in his employment as a shoe factory worker. In the last scene of
the play we go on to learn that Tom is fired from his job at the warehouse. In his last monologue Tom
confesses how he got fired for writing a poem on the lid of a shoe box (115). Williams, like Tom,
spent much of his time writing poetry to escape the depressing reality of his life(DVD). In the play,
Tom s depressing life includes the place he calls home, the absence of his father, and his mother s
constant pressure on him to not be like his father. In a similar way, Williams

New York University Student Feste
It is my pleasure to recommend an outstanding student, Feste, to New York University for a dual
degree in philosophy and acting. I believe that New York University (NYU) is the best fit for Feste
because he excels in both areas, and no other university could provide him with a high quality
education that combines both subjects. Although I have successfully recommended several students to
NYU, I have never had the honor of recommending a student like Feste; he manages to be the most
outspoken person in the room, yet contributes deep and insightful commentary. He is truly a student
that teaches me something every day. For example, he once told the class that smart people who think
they re witty are often fools, but because he was not witty, he might pass as being smart. The off
handed way in which he dispensed this knowledge amazed me, and upon questioning, he swore that
this comment was just ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through conversations and weekly writing prompts, I have learned not to form an opinion of someone
based off of preconceived notions such as appearances or grades. Though Feste appears to play the
fool, he actually is wise and has potential and talent not accounted for in his Grade Point Average
(GPA). I believe Feste will excel in NYU s acting and philosophy programs because he takes on
different roles and dispenses insightful wisdom much like the famous philosophers in the fifteenth
century. Additionally, NYU is the best fit for Feste because numbers, such as GPA and test scores, will
not define him. He will pursue his interest in acting, contemplate human nature, and continue to
inspire the people around him if admitted to NYU. Feste s endless creativity, willingness to take risks,
and charisma lead me to believe that he will produce unique and thought provoking work in the

How Computers Change the Way We Think
Introduction Jarvis: Sir, I think I need to sleep now... [shuts down] Tony Stark: Jarvis! Jarvis? Don t
leave me, buddy...
Consider this other conversation: Colonel James Rhodes: Give me a suit. [holds out arms] Tony Stark:
Sorry, they re only coded to me. Don t worry, I got you covered. [a suit approaches Rhodey] Jarvis:
Good evening, Colonel. Can I give you a lift? Colonel James Rhodes: Very funny. (Ironman 1)
These are extracts taken from the Marvel blockbuster movie Ironman. By the face of it they seem as
normal conversations taking place amongst three characters. However, in relation to the topic of this
paper, Jarvis will be the example that is being brought into attention. Jarvis is not a person, rather it is
a computer system with the ability to control any machine it is linked to. In fact the name Jarvis is an
acronym J.A.R.V.I.S that stands for Just A Rather Very Intelligent System. Attention should be drawn
to the fact that Jarvis; rather than simply shutting down, goes to sleep, Tony Stark refers to him as a
buddy, which is slang for friend and Jarvis has a sense of humor! This exemplifies the level of human
capacity that the computer has. In line with this, the movie IRobot also explores a world where
machine and robots are an everyday part of life until they decide to rise against the humans. Now, one

What Is The Theme Of Killing Lizards
Killing lizards
All children search for attention, love and acceptance through their childhood. If a child doesn t
receive attention, love and acceptance, in which way can they find the trust to be themselves? They
will be stuck in an uncertain world, where they have no trust in themselves and difficult to evolve their
identity.
In the short story, killing lizards, the main charachter is the 12 year old English boy, Gavin. Gavin s
family moved to Africa to years before the story takes place. Gavin seems to be like any other
common boy, but the reality is something else. Gavin misses attention from his mother, and wishes
that she could pay more attention to him. He is especially jealous of his sister Amanda because he
believes that she grabs all the attention from their mother. That is very clear in this quote. (Page 3,
lines 63 64 he wished she bothered about him more, did things with him as she did with Amanda .)
Gavin frequently dreams about his father and sister dying in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This is because his father and sister are two rivals for him, in the battle for his mother s love, but if
they die, Gavin would be the only one who receives the mother s love. He is well aware that it s
wrong, and he tries to stop thinking about it, but deep inside he wants the dream to become a reality.
These fantasies are obviously because of a strong Oedipus complex between the child and his mother,
which is evidently seen in the way he wants people to think of them in his fantasy. (Page 2, lines 31
34: People would look at them in the street and whisper, I don t know what she would have done
without him and Yes, he s been wonderful and They re so close now .) These fantasies are entirely
naturally expectable for a child who clearly doesn t get maternal attention and love enough, and it is
clearly seen in this quote. (Page 3, lines 56 61: Oh. Well I m going out too.

Descriptive Essay-I Wear Syrup
I wear makeup. This is the first thought which occurs to me as I hasten down the stairs, gasping,
heading straight towards my room. It is when I slam my bedroom door shut, lock it, place a chair
against the it, and turn the doorknob countless times to make sure it is secure, when I can finally
breathe a sigh of relief and sit on the edge of my bed. I wear makeup, but I don t wear mascara,
eyeliner, lip gloss, or blush. I wear makeup, and it doesn t go on my face. I wear makeup on my mind
I conceal my imperfections and insecurities. I conceal everything. I fight for breath and lean my head
backwards. A lump starts to form at the back of my throat, and I can feel my eyes finally starting to
water. It s too late. Nothing can stop me from crying now. I let the hot, heavy tears fall from my eye,
scrunch my body up into a tiny ball on the edge of my bed, and I weep. My head pounds on and on, to
the point where my ears start buzzing, but I don t care. I don t care, and I don t want to care. I just
want everything to be over with and done. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

thanks to my lock and the heavy chair I had put against the door. Chills run down my spine. I feel the
goosebumps starting to gather up all over my body, and it feels like someone is sucking out all the
happiness existing in this world. One thing is taking over me fear. My breaths become shorter and
shorter, and I begin to hyperventilate. I look around. The only other way out my room is the window,
and I don t have time to open it. I have no choice but to stay in this room; I am trapped. The pounding
on the door gets louder and stronger each time. I shiver and run to the corner of my room, terrified of
my kismet. Chipped wood flies everywhere as the door is finally burst

USAID Safe Mothers Program in Indonesia
SIAGA Campaigns Within Indonesia The US Agency for International Development also known as
USAID implemented a campaign in 1998 into Indonesia in order to promote a 5 year safe motherhood
program. This campaign involved the participation of not only USAID but the Indonesian
government, the National Family Planning Coordinating Board, and several NGO s. The campaign
was labeled as the Maternal and Neonatal Health Program (MNH) . This program involved multiple
campaigns including Warga SIAGA (Alert Citizen), Suami SIAGA (Alert Husband), Bidan SIAGA

Women, husbands, midwives, and community influentials. The end line survey sample showed that
there were only 2,925 involved members of the same demographics. Despite the numbers above, I
would say that the organization positioned itself well within this campaign. Jhpiego s mission
statement reads, innovating to save lives which is exactly what this campaign was centered around. (
Jhpiego.org ) They continue to further their goals to improve maternal, newborn, and prenatal health
in Indonesia today. Though the program did not reach it s overall goals, I believe that their
representation within Indonesia was and continues to be successful. The entire campaign generated a
behavior change that was present among Indonesians up until 1998. Jhpiego, the company who
coordinated the program is still working in Indonesia to treat Eclampsia in mothers and newborns and
is once again partnered with USAID.( Jhpiego.org ) Their efforts in this campaign include many of the
same aspects of the SIAGA campaign including midwives, and seeking early prenatal care. Jhpiego is
working to this day in order to effectively train midwives in Indonesia to better prepare them for
emergencies. The continued efforts of this organization being welcomed into the country over 15 years
later, speaks to the representation of this campaign. The success of the Eclampsia campaign, I believe

The Death Of Matt Shepard
The death of Matt Shepard produced a profound impact on the community of Laramie and the entire
state. This tragedy provoked numerous discussions and drew the attention of the public to the position
of gay and lesbian community at large and individual representatives of the homosexual community in
particular. At the same time, the general public was basically concerned on the death of Matt Shepard
rather than on the problem of the homosexual community of Laramie. In such a situation, Beth
Loffreda attempted to draw the attention of the public to this problem at large. In her book Losing
Matt Shepard , she does not focus entirely on the death of Matt Shepard and its circumstances, but she
rather to lay emphasis on the problem which remained practically unnoticed by mass media and the
general public, the problem of hate and intolerance in regard to homosexuals and their position in the
local community. However, she does not tend to explain the murder of Matt Shepard by hate only and
she disagrees with the arguments that hate is not a Laramie value or that hate: it s a common word in
Wyoming . Instead, she suggests to view the murder as the revelation of a much more complicated
problem than ordinary hate, but she underlines that it is rather the problem of intolerance and cultural
norms and biases that dominate in the local community. In such a way, it is possible to estimate that
the views on the tragedy ,I feel like this was the reason how the media got wrong on

Essay about Early American Literature
Early American Literature (1620 1820)
In the first half of the 17th century the New World found two groups of people
colonizing. The first group, the Puritans, had left England after years of exile due to
their lack of faith in the Church of England. With the reading and understanding of the
Bible almost completely laid in the hands of the preacher, the congregation was forced
to believe all the words that the preacher said. This all came to an end with John
Calvin.
His ideas were that God likes certain people better than others and those chosen
ones would get more land and more money. This idea took off with the Puritans as they
seeked religious freedom, a chance to start new churches ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All education was basedon religion and through that there was no questioning of God.
Along with this, their faith was based of that of the super natural world. They could
not see God, but saw him through thingslike a prosperous harvest or a winter blizzard,
both of these in reaction to actions taken by the Puritans.
With this lack of deductive reasoning the Puritans would find themselves thinking
about things done wrong if there was a life threatening winter blizzard or reflect the
things that were done right in the event of a bountiful harvest. In my eyes the Putians
were did not just leave England in search of religious freedom, they were casually asked
to leave the country and were used to colonize land that England was interested in.
Much like religious cults of today, they were against major religious beliefs of the
church and looked upon as radicals in their beliefs. Then, coming out, beheld a
space the flame consume my dwelling place. And when I could no longer look, I blest His
name that gave and took. A quote of this nature in modern day society would be
followed by the thought of radical nature in the person saying it. Things may have
changed as far as social acceptance goes, but I see the Puritans as outcasts of the
society in England.
The other group of

Red Eared Slider Research Paper
The Red Eared Slider is one of the most common Mid South East Coast. They can be found in
marshes, ponds, and slow moving bodies of water. Other species of turtles include: Eastern Box

Musk Turtle, Eastern Mud Turtle, Northern Diamondback, and Wood Turtle. The Red Eared Slider is

To warm up, they bask in the sun. In winter, all reptiles in our area must hibernate to survive the cold.
This explains the uncommon sighting of most turtles this time of the season. But as soon as the

Prospect Park in Brooklyn, we encountered a dead turtle. The lifeless shell was flipped over and

Paganism In Beowulf
¬By definition, a Pagan is a person who has religious beliefs other than those of the main world
religion. The epic poem Beowulf was passed down verbally from generation to generation with
enlightening Pagan teachings and elements. Christian elements were not included in the poem until a
Christian monk added them when it was put as written text. However, the Christian aspects collide
with the Pagan elements found in the poem. Beowulf was originally told with only Pagan elements. In
the article The Essential Pagan Elements in Beowulf , it explains Pagan elements included in the story
such as dragons and magic. We do not hear anything about saints, angels, or any particular dogmatic

Things such as magic, unnatural creatures, and strange scenarios play a huge role in their faith.
However, Christians believe that things such as dragons, witches, magic and the dark arts are of Satan.
While the Pagans view the dragon as a fire breathing, greedy creature keeping treasure in its lair, the
Christians view it as the devil making the setting of hell. The equivalent of Beowulf in the Christian
faith would be Jesus Christ. He came into the world (lair) and freed us from sins (hell). Pagans view
Beowulf as having superhuman powers that let him overcome any trial he may face. For example of
Beowulf s strength, he lifted the giant s magical sword when nobody else could. His strength is
matched by Christian faith with the story of Jesus was resurrected and came out from the tomb he was
buried in. Beowulf fought for peace in the land of Geatland and Danes. Christ made peace with
everyone. They both share qualities of the desire for peace. The biggest comparison between Beowulf
and Jesus Christ is when they both died to save other people. According to Christian belief, Christ was
crucified to save everyone from death. Beowulf was killed by the dragon in order to save someone
else and to calm his soul from the loss of his village. Christ also found his true followers when he was
carrying the cross and they came to help him. Just like in Beowulf how Wiglaf is Beowulf s
companion because he fights by his side through thick and thin.

Are Competitive Sports Good Or Bad For Kids
Recently there has been a big controversy about if competitive sports are good or bad for kids. But
competitive sports can also be bad because of all different types of injures players can get. I think
competitive sports are good because it helps with kids building building character, physical and
mental health, and lastly life lessons.
First competitive sports are good is it builds character in kids are, sometimes you can only learn
certain things from sports like what hard work is. According to the (National Council of Youth Sports)
they say there are over 40 million kids are in competitive sports and that helps because when we grow
up there will be a variety of adults with different lessons that they have learned and that will help
when we are adults because there will be a variety of people from different childhood lessons. Also
being in competitive sports, kids have less negative behavior in school and in public because they are
the names behind their program and I have never met a sports player that said I want people to think
are sports program is a bunch a bad kids. They also make life lasting friendships with other kids that
they played or are on the same team. I know this because my dad talks to a friend that he made from

these people being remembered for the two or three good deeds they have done. Publicity and media
have exaggerated the generosity of these men, the government has spoiled these names with false lies,

Rockefeller. A picture in my history book shows a group of people watching an old Rockefeller crouch

and philanthropist, is caught doing one of his good deeds.
No wonder that only a handful of people can t distinguish that this old man was a crock and deserves
to rot in hell! With all this positive media attention, the public had been fed lies! In real life, this
money hungry, greedy villain is the prime reason why the Sherman Antitrust Act was passed.
Rockefeller s dream was to monopolize the oiling industry, and he so successfully did. Because of his
great empire (the Standard Oil Co.) and the wealth it brought, when any other competitor tried even to
step foot into the oiling industry, Rockefeller dropped his prices until the rookie industry was forced

could they do? Many other industries depended on the oil that Rockefeller provided and besides, the
Sherman Antitrust Act couldn t be enforced with these big businesses growing larger and larger.
He donated over 2500 libraries worldwide, he helped establish the famous concert hall in New York,
and he helped finance several colleges in the US. Can you guess who he is? Yes! Andrew Carnagie.

Reflection Of Remember The Titans
Remember the Titans is a movie about a football team, but it was not as a simple as it seemed. The
year is 1971, a high school in Alexandria, Virginia becomes integrated. Bringing together many
talented athletes. This movie is lead by two coach s, Coach Boone (Denzel Washington), and Coach
Yoast (Will Patton). Before the school was integrated Coach Yoast who is white was the head coach.
After the integration Coach Boone was given the title head coach. Yoast does not want that to happen,
and Boone does not agree on it either. He has respect for him, but understands he has a job to do. With
this happening Coach Boone is the first black coach of an integrated school. The thing was Coach
Yoast has his players and Coach Boone has is. They both new the challenge of bringing them together
was going to be difficult. When Yoast tells his white players they do not want to play for a black
coach. It seems completely unreasonable, but during this time racism was a big problem. He did not
want his players to lose their scholarships so he accepts the title of assistant coach. All of the players
were very talented but as a team they were nothing. They weren t working together at all, because they
both had too much of an ego and did not want to work together. So the whole team was sent to
football camp, but the point of this camp was to make them play as a team. Of course they went to
improve their skills, but the main reason was to build a bond between the players. They headed to

Comparison Of Dido And Aeneas
In the article Dido, Aeneas, and the Concept of Pietas, the author Kenneth McLeish argues that Dido
is in the Aeneid, because Virgil, a careful writer, saw her as a necessary piece of the epic Everything
she says or does is part of the design, and her presence in the Aeneid must deepen our understanding,
not lessen it. McLeish explains that Virgil described her as being a real person with emotions, actions,
and wholeness that real people possess (McLeish 127). In Virgil s time, any Roman would look at
Dido as weak (McLeish 130). She was married to a king that died and left all the power to her.
Romans would immediately move from love to duty as they searched for a new ruler to protect their
land. Dido, on the other hand, vowed against that very thing, placing devotion to romance over
devotion to duty and government. Because of this, pious Romans would have urged Aeneas to move
away from the weak ruler in pursuit of a greater prize, Rome. In direct contrast to Dido, Aeneas is a
perfect picture of the pietas that Romans aimed to exemplify in their lives as citizens. He mourns for
the fallen Troy when sees the Trojan War depicted in Dido s temple, showing his deep care for his city
(McLeish 128). Dido s stark contrast to the Roman belief system at the time was specifically designed
by Virgil to pull the support of the Romans to the divine mission of Rome and to encourage pious
behavior among them (McLeish 131). Had Virgil depicted Dido as a role model after Aeneas left her,
the purpose of the epic to encourage patriotism would have been compromised. Dido s purpose was to
rally the allegiance to Rome and a sense of Romanness. Dido s very first encounter with Aeneas
shows how she will lead to her own destruction (McLeish 129). Her first thought of Aeneas was
purely smitten for his beauty, so she was already planting a seed in her own mind that she might have
found the next king of Carthage even before Cupid s influence took hold of her mind. McLeish s view
shows that Virgil did not write Dido to be glorified or even sympathized with, but that she was written
as a bad example (McLeish 132).
In the essay Virgil and the Mystery of Suffering, writer Francis A. Sullivan emphasizes Virgil s
depiction of the pain

found in red blood cells, and it is responsible for red color in blood. A protein inside red blood cells
that carries oxygen from the lungs to tissues and organs in the body and carries carbon dioxide back to
the lungs. (1). Vitamin B 12 or cobalamin is a vital vitamin in the formation of red blood cells. A
nutrient in the vitamin B complex that the body needs in small amounts to function and stay healthy.
Vitamin B12 helps make red blood cells, DNA, RNA, energy, and tissues, and keeps nerve cells

The Expansion Of The Oil Sands
Canada has always been a leader in the oil sands industry. Over the past few years there has been
controversy in Canada over oil production. Some say we should continue to expand the production of
oil and others say we should try to reduce our production. The first article Why Canada needs to
develop the oil sands by Konrad Yakabuski argues that Canada should continue to expand the oil
sands. Contradictory to the first article, the second article Stop oilsands expansion, Canadian and U.S.
researchers say argues that Canada should stop expanding the oil sands. In this paper both articles are
summarized and compared based on factors that could influence the reader. In this paper I will argue
that the article that supports the expansion of the oil sands is more convincing as it is better organized
and the writing style makes the reader think about the issue more so than the other article. The first
article Why Canada needs to develop the oil sands by Konrad Yakabuski argues the point that Canada
should continue the expansion of the oil sands. The article first addresses the critics to the plan to
expand the oil sands as it states that critics warn that Canada risks becoming a petro state akin to Iran
or Nigeria . The next couple of paragraphs address this statement and the author points out that overall
our economy is very diverse and the oil sands are unlikely to expand so much that our economy is
totally reliant on them. The next point the article brings up

Current-Day Liberia Research Paper
This paper explores the environmental policies of current day Liberia. Emphasis is placed on post civil
war rule of law, personal waste disposal and infrastructure. In order to relay a sense of environmental
policies in Liberia, this paper touches on the economy of Liberia as well as the basic demographics.
An attempt is also made to touch on the disparity between conservation and a third world population

Liberia, commonly known for diseases such as Ebola and cholera and also known as home to such
notorious figures as General Butt Naked, a mass murderer and cannibal, is a nation recovering from
two recent civil wars on the northwest shore of Africa. The total landmass, consisting of 111,369
square kilometers; is roughly the size of the state of Virginia. In addition to having a long stretch of
coastline along the North Atlantic Ocean, about 13% of the landmass is aquatic. With this in mind, the
population density based on June estimates is 4,092,310, per square kilometer of usable landmass,
which equates to about 43 persons per square kilometer of usable landmass. Ecologically speaking,
Liberia is home to a multitude of diverse species, including around 500 unique avian species. In
addition to this, the land is rich in natural resources, both in the form of timber and minerals. Notably,
there are large deposits of minerals, with rich deposits of diamond ore (Agency, 2013).

Billy Collins On Turning Ten
Often times readers desire for works that they can relate to on a personal level. With that in mind Billy
Collins wrote a poem entitled, On Turning Ten discusses the hardships experienced from growing up.
The poem is written from the perspective of a child who has turned ten years old and is looking back
at their great life as a very young kid. The child sees the world in a different way and feels sad that he
has grown up. Collins, through his poem, displays the emotional hardship of growing older and causes
the reader to relate to the child as they remember their own experiences growing up. Collins uses
imagery to instill empathy within the reader as they have also felt the speaker s internal turmoil. The
child is talking about how growing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The child seems to address the reader and says, You tell me it s too early to be looking back, but that is
because you have forgotten the perfect simplicity of being one and the beautiful complexity
introduced by two (76). The child goes on to list more magnificent experiences he had as a younger
child. With these lines Collins masterfully predicts what the reader must be feeling. The reader is
doubtful at first that this boy is old enough to be thinking about this, but as the stanza carries on they
begin to realize he has a point. Collins reminds the reader of possible memories they have and proves
that what this child is feeling is valid. The boy goes on to proclaim, It is time to say goodbye to my
imaginary friends, time to turn the first big number. Collins suggests that an active and free roaming
imagination must be let go as one grows older. Again he targets the readers past experiences and
reminds them that growing up can be a really sad thing. The reader is also reminded of the fun
childhood they lost. It is clear to see that adults who have forgotten their past are the targeted audience
as the poem reminds them of old times and causes them to remember lost memories of growing

Short Happy Life Of Francis Macomber Analysis
In human history, the qualities of man have not changed drastically, but something changed recently.
The women have earned more and more power, which is a threat for the men, and society has changed
for the worse. In his story The Short, Happy Life of Francis Macomber, Ernest Hemingway uses
setting and characterization to address the attributes of a real man. The author uses the primitive and
free rule Kenya to show some real man s characteristics. In this primitive land, only the strongest are
able to survive. For example, the lion is known as the king of the jungle because he does not have any
other animal that can oppose him; on the other hand, a weak antelope is doomed to die and be the food

Tiny Moments
In The Epic of Gilgamesh food and drink appear in tiny moments and events with huge significance
and symbolism. If you delve deep into the details and themes of food in The Epic of Gilgamesh, you
will discover symbolism with profound meaning. One of the most obvious examples is how Enkidu
wandered the wilderness as a beast surviving on only grass and water. He is transformed by his first
taste of bread and beer. Food and drink represent much more than sustenance, it is what separates
humans and animals, the underworld from the above and it serves as a transformative metaphor for
life.

The Election Sociology
How Sociology Influenced the Election
On November 8, 2016, the United States was filled with mixed emotions from the outcome of the
presidential election. For many, the results of the election were shocking because the candidates in this
election were so different. The final votes were very close, but the results showed that Donald Trump
would be the next President of the United States. When looking at the election, people focus on the
how many votes their candidate received. However, many people do not look past just the vote itself.
By this I mean, they do not realize the sociological concepts that play into the election. By looking at
the election from a sociologists standpoint, there are many other important factors that contribute ...

Sociology defines education as the social institution through which society provides its members with
important knowledge, including basic facts, job skills, and cultural norms and values (Macionis 467).
This platform is very important for all parties because it impacts the future of America, and the
education in America is held to a high standard. When the voting data was broken down into different
amounts of education per vote, the results were close. The data showed that 51 percent of people who
had a high school degree or less, and 52 percent of people who had at least some college voted for
Trump. The rest of the votes for Hillary came from 49 percent of college graduates and 58 percent of
postgraduates. To further this data, it was compared to race and gender. The results showed that race
over powered education, and that there were more white college graduates and whites with no degrees
that voted for Trump. When this data was compared to gender, it showed that white educated women
were the outliers. In other words, white college graduates who are women all voted for

Americans were harassed at the polls, threatened, forced to pay poll tax, forced to do literacy tests and

When Tennessee State University originally founded its goal and mission was to teach agricultural and
industrial trade to African Americans. As before stated the reason for this was due to any other form of
education that did not keep African Americans as the working class was not accepted in the Jim Crow
south. The programs that the University has available reflected this mindset during the time. The
programs that promoted trade that the University had were agricultural, industrial, home economics
and engineering. As aforementioned these programs were meant for the prevention of the African
American community from rising above poverty. This University was also seen as very difficult to

Du Bois was very against advocating more of a traditional style of education over trade education. As
time went on the University did change its original goals. Tennessee State University has changed

Common Stereotypes And Misconceptions About Feminism
Feminism is the advocacy of women s rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes. Men, women,
children, anyone can be a feminist. From a feminist s perspective the world is viewed as being
unequal. Feminists aim to decrease and even eliminate all types of discrimination against women.
Feminism is the belief in social, political, and economic equality of the sexes. Feminists are working
towards a discrimination free future but to do so they must change individual s perspectives on
traditional women and male roles (gender roles.) The term gender roles refer to the attitudes, actions
and personality traits associated to a specific gender. For example, males are usually associated with
characteristics such as strength, dominance and aggression where as females are seen as being the
inferior sex and expected to look and act feminine. In order for equality between the sexes both males
and females need to be seen as equals. There are many common misconceptions about feminists and
stereotypical views towards the movement that greatly affect the way feminists are portrayed.

The Little Chinese Seamstress Analysis
The Little Chinese Seamstress is a story told through the eyes of a young narrator living in Communist
China. Throughout this story the character constantly evolves in his mannerisms and his train of
thought. His relationship with his best friend, Lou, constantly changes as well as Lou begins to hang
out with the rural seamstress. One particular passage, beginning at 123 and ending through the end of
125. In this passage, the narrator has a dream about the Little Seamstress tumbling over a cliff side.
The dream has deeper meaning and speaks volumes on the narrator s jealousy, as well as fear, of Lou
and the Little Seamstresses relationship.
As the passage begins, the narrator has a dream incorporating the Seamstress, himself and Lou. In this
first section of the passage, the narrator is frightened by the Seamstress as her relationship with Lou
progresses, and that the narrator finds the Seamstress to be soothing. The first way this passage
portrays this is by the use of shifting diction. As the dream begins, the narrator s perception of the girl
shifts several times before cementing on the Little Seamstress. This diction implies the narrator s true
feelings for the Seamstress. It does this by the narrator recognizing the girls before it focusing on the
Seamstress. Another way the narrator s fears and feelings for the Seamstress is seen through the details
about the pig. At the beginning of the passage when the narrator wakes up from the dream he was

Hearing dogs are trained to alert the person of sounds that are vital to the owner s daily safety. They
make physical contact and will direct the owner either toward or away from the noise, depending on
the source. This provides someone who is deaf or hard of hearing the awareness of any other person.
There are seven main sounds a hearing dog will learn; a ringing phone, doorbells/knocking, smoke
alarms, fire alarms, name calls, alarm clocks, oven/microwave timers. In public, sirens or car horns are

The Beginning Of Enslavement Of Slavery Essay
The Beginning of Enslavement
After the Thirty Years War, Europe s economy was depressed leaving many laborers without work. A
life in the New World, gave European Immigrants a new sense of hope. Indentured Servants were
people who sold their labor voluntarily in exchange for free passage to the New World, and given
housing upon their arrival. They were willing to enter an agreement to work for a specified amount of
time, nor were considered the property of the contract holder. Alike in certain aspects, however,
divergent in many areas of Indentured Servants, in the early 1600 s Slavery began in America when
the first African Slaves brought to the colony of Jamestown, Virginia. Virginia was one of the first
states to acknowledge slavery in its laws, to aid the production of lucrative tobacco crops. In 1670.
The law that defined which people could be enslaved declared, all servants not being Christians
imported into this colony by shipping shall be slaves for their lives. (Norton, Mary Beth. (2015).
Initially, slaves were treated as Indentured Servants and given much freedom until eventually slave
laws were passed. When the slave laws were passed this had seized any freedoms that might have
existed for African Americans. The colonies began to reflect contradictions between Indentured
Servants and Slaves. More important, the laws began to differentiate between races: the association of
servitude for natural life with people of African descent became common. (Law

Similarities Between The Heart And The Human Body
The hidden similarities to the human body
The heart and the brain are both uniquely fascinating organs in the human body. People probably
believe the heart and the brain are very different from each other. They probably think the brain is
what we use to think, make decisions, do well on English papers, and how we know how to do our
jobs. They probably think the heart is how we pump blood through the body, what the doctor listens to
during patient checkups, or that we have had a meal that just didn t agree with us. These do seem like
quite different organs; however, these organs are actually quite similar in certain ways. Even though
the heart and brain are two different organs, they have common characteristics that are essential for
the body to operate properly.
First, the heart and brain are similar in they both function using an electrical system. The brain has
neurons, which send electrical impulses throughout the body to notify the body of certain senses and
tasks (Martini et al. 410). For example, when someone touches something hot such as a clothing iron,
then their immediate reaction is to remove their hand. If an object gets near the eye, then people blink
to protect the eye. These reactions are all because the brain has received an electrical impulse that
triggers a message of what to do like move the hand and blink the eye. The heart also has an electrical
system. The heart has a conductive pathway that consists of electrical impulses that tell the heart when

How Did The Nile Shaped Ancient Egypt
Egypt... is, so to speak, the gift of the Nile. According to document A, Egypt has a lot of land
contrasts, from the desert to the Nile. The first pharoah ruled 5,000 years ago, which was Menes.
Egypt began nearly 5,000 years ago. How did the Nile affect Ancient Egypt? The Nile shaped Ancient
Egypt in terms of population distribution, economics, and spiritual/religious life.
The first way that the Nile shaped Egypt is in terms of population distribution. A lot of the population
was in the Delta area. Lower Egypt has more cities than Upper Egypt (Lower Egypt has 10 cities.)
Upper Egypt also has their cities more spread out than Lower Egypt. Not only did the Nile shape
Ancient Egypt with population distribution, but also in terms of economics.

Entertainers Vs Professional Athletes
What makes professional athletes and entertainers so special compared to other important people?
Professional athletes and entertainers do not need the special treatment. There are many other people
that deserve to be paid more because of their actions. Famous professional athletes seem to be only
concerned about their next goal or touchdown and their bank account. Most entertainers, whether they
are singers, dancers, or actors, do not put much effort into society other than making money. How can
professional athletes and entertainers make more than the President of the United States? Tom Brady
in 2015 received a paycheck of $13.8 million dollars. Over the next couple of years, Tom Brady will
receive a $30 million dollar pay raise ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People that go to college to become a doctor have to have a bachelor degree from college and must
complete medical school. Doctors also have to complete residency training and be certified. Doctors
normally get paid an estimate of $111,630 per year. They have to spend long hours on their feet
helping patients. Even on their days off, they might be called in to help in a major case. Doctors save
people s lives. Can professional athletes and entertainers do that? No they cannot. Doctors should be
paid much more than any professional athlete or entertainer because they put everything they have
into saving people s lives. If every person that a doctor has helped writes the doctor a thank you note,
the doctor would have more fans than any professional athlete or entertainer. Police officers and
firefighters are some of the lowest paid people. Police officers get paid roughly $56,260 per year.
Firefighters get paid an average of $47,720 per year. Police officers and firefighters work long hours.
A normal work week for a police officer is around forty hours. The normal work week for a firefighter
is around forty eight to fifty six hours. Police officers and firefighters are always on call to the local
community and neighboring counties. They have to say goodbye to their families and pray that they
will return each night to kiss their children goodnight. Wives stay up at night worrying, waiting to hear
the sound of their husbands driving in the garage. Every day police officers put their lives on the line
for that one little girl, a family of four, and even the professional athletes and entertainers, just so they
can be safe at

Andean Cocaine Essay
Andean Cocaine traces the obscure processes and transformations of the global coca and cocaine
commodity chain. Gootenberg documents the lore of the Andean coca leaf, the birth of cocaine as a
medical commodity, the early twentieth century decline cocaine, and its reemergence as a global illicit
good following World War II. The commodity chain of coca and cocaine began with the extraction of
alkaloidal cocaine from the dried Andean coca leaf. This discovery by German doctoral student Albert
Niemann would soon transform cocaine into a world drug commodity. Initially, cocaine was essential
as a high value medical commodity. Medical uses of cocaine included treatment of opiate addiction,
hay fever, asthma, or other respiratory ailments. Cocaine s greatest medical impact in the United
States was as a local anesthetic during surgery. In Europe, cocaine s commodity chain was defined by
the coca elixir Vin Mariani developed by Corsican physician and chemist Angelo Mariani. Cultivated
by Peruvian and Bolivian peasants living in the Andean Mountains, the coca leaf would be dried and
shipped to the United States or Europe for refining. Due to the herb s ... Show more content on

The scientific interest in cocaine was part of an awakening of Peruvian scientific nationalism. Lima s
medical elites and modern chemistry transformed the coca plant into medicinal cocaine in the
nineteenth century. Peruvians took an herb that held deep cultural meanings in Incan history and
changed it into an exclusive and modern good. This early study of coca combined science and
patriotism. Peruvian scientist s proximity and experiences lent a privileged place as compared to
scientists in Europe. With help from Peruvians like Moreno y Maíz and J. C. Ulloa, elite scientific
nationalism made local and traditional coca and universal and scientifically modern cocaine into
national subjects, or what Gootenberg calls highland

Elizabethan Era Medicine
Herbal Remedies and Poisons in Elizabethan Times
In this day and age, there are millions of pharmaceuticals out there for all kinds of diseases and
conditions, but where did all of this start? The creation of medicines most likely started when people
discovered the healing properties plants contained. Today, mankind has the knowledge and technology
to extract elements from plants to produce more chemically engineered medicines. The real question is
how did medicines develop from mashing up leaves in order to lessen an infuriating rash to just
popping a pill to nurse or illness? Medicines evolved by the scientific method: series of research and
experiments. During the Elizabethan era, research and experimentation attained a renewed interest. ...

However, in order to balance out the world there needs to good and bad. There were medicines created
that saved lives, but there were also poisons that were used to kill people. Even though there were
poisons, humanity thanks the scientists and pharmacists who created these medicines, which led the
world to producing more effective medicines. Somewhere on this globe, there is a person who is only
alive because of the medicines physicians created, and mankind appreciates it

Itco321 Unit 1 Research Paper
Unit 3 IP ITCO321 Anthony Thurman Stacks are containers of objects that are inserted and then
removed according to Last In First Out (LIFO). This means that the last item inserted will be the first
item removed. Inserting an item is referred to as Pushing, while removing an item is called Popping. A
queue works a little different than a stack does, in that it follows First In First Out. So rather than
having the last object removed first, the first object is removed first. Elements can be inserted at any
time, but the only element that can be removed is the one that has been in the queue the longest.

Thus, a more three dimensional approach was created: The Political Compass. This multifaceted analysis includes not only the traditional economic stance but a social stance as well. Although someone claims they re a liberal, they might tend towards communism. With the traditional left or right scale, it would be impossible to know that; The Political Compass, however, has a dimension for fascism and anarchism along with communism and neo liberalism which would indicate both the economic scale (communism) and social scale (libertarian). It is also a more accurate way to determine where certain politicians lie. Take Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany. She s a moderate neo liberalist who is neither full fascist or anarchist. This shows that Merkel is indeed a more neo liberalist than communist. However, Germany s current economy still has regulations in place that prevent the market from being wholly free, which is why Merkel cannot be classified as a full neo liberalist. In such a situation, Beth Loffreda attempted to draw the attention of the public to this problem at large. He did not want his players to lose their scholarships so he accepts the title of assistant coach. All of the players were very talented but as a team they were nothing. They weren t working together at all, because they both had too much of an ego and did not want to work together. So the whole team was sent to football camp, but the point of this camp was to make them play as a team. • 22. Comparison Of Dido And Aeneas In the article Dido, Aeneas, and the Concept of Pietas, the author Kenneth McLeish argues that Dido is in the Aeneid, because Virgil, a careful writer, saw her as a necessary piece of the epic Everything she says or does is part of the design, and her presence in the Aeneid must deepen our understanding, not lessen it. McLeish explains that Virgil described her as being a real person with emotions, actions, and wholeness that real people possess (McLeish 127). In Virgil s time, any Roman would look at Dido as weak (McLeish 130). She was married to a king that died and left all the power to her. Romans would immediately move from love to duty as they searched for a new ruler to protect their land. Dido, on the other hand, vowed against that very thing, placing devotion to romance over devotion to duty and government. Because of this, pious Romans would have urged Aeneas to move away from the weak ruler in pursuit of a greater prize, Rome. In direct contrast to Dido, Aeneas is a perfect picture of the pietas that Romans aimed to exemplify in their lives as citizens. He mourns for the fallen Troy when sees the Trojan War depicted in Dido s temple, showing his deep care for his city (McLeish 128). Dido s stark contrast to the Roman belief system at the time was specifically designed by Virgil to pull the support of the Romans to the divine mission of Rome and to encourage pious behavior among them (McLeish 131). Had Virgil depicted Dido as a role model after Aeneas left her, the purpose of the epic to encourage patriotism would have been compromised. Dido s purpose was to rally the allegiance to Rome and a sense of Romanness. Dido s very first encounter with Aeneas shows how she will lead to her own destruction (McLeish 129). Her first thought of Aeneas was purely smitten for his beauty, so she was already planting a seed in her own mind that she might have found the next king of Carthage even before Cupid s influence took hold of her mind. McLeish s view shows that Virgil did not write Dido to be glorified or even sympathized with, but that she was written as a bad example (McLeish 132). In the essay Virgil and the Mystery of Suffering, writer Francis A. Sullivan emphasizes Virgil s depiction of the pain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some say we should continue to expand the production of oil and others say we should try to reduce our production. The first article Why Canada needs to develop the oil sands by Konrad Yakabuski argues that Canada should continue to expand the oil sands. The reader is doubtful at first that this boy is old enough to be thinking about this, but as the stanza carries on they begin to realize he has a point. Collins reminds the reader of possible memories they have and proves that what this child is feeling is valid. People probably believe the heart and the brain are very different from each other. They probably think the brain is what we use to think, make decisions, do well on English papers, and how we know how to do our jobs. They probably think the heart is how we pump blood through the body, what the doctor listens to during patient checkups, or that we have had a meal that just didn t agree with us. These do seem like quite different organs; however, these organs are actually quite similar in certain ways. Even though the heart and brain are two different organs, they have common characteristics that are essential for the body to operate properly. First, the heart and brain are similar in they both function using an electrical system. The brain has neurons, which send electrical impulses throughout the body to notify the body of certain senses and tasks (Martini et al. 410). For example, when someone touches something hot such as a clothing iron, then their immediate reaction is to remove their hand. If an object gets near the eye, then people blink to protect the eye. • 44. Andean Cocaine Essay Andean Cocaine traces the obscure processes and transformations of the global coca and cocaine commodity chain. Gootenberg documents the lore of the Andean coca leaf, the birth of cocaine as a medical commodity, the early twentieth century decline cocaine, and its reemergence as a global illicit good following World War II. The commodity chain of coca and cocaine began with the extraction of alkaloidal cocaine from the dried Andean coca leaf. This discovery by German doctoral student Albert Niemann would soon transform cocaine into a world drug commodity. Initially, cocaine was essential as a high value medical commodity. Medical uses of cocaine included treatment of opiate addiction, hay fever, asthma, or other respiratory ailments. Cocaine s greatest medical impact in the United States was as a local anesthetic during surgery. In Europe, cocaine s commodity chain was defined by the coca elixir Vin Mariani developed by Corsican physician and chemist Angelo Mariani. Cultivated by Peruvian and Bolivian peasants living in the Andean Mountains, the coca leaf would be dried and shipped to the United States or Europe for refining. Due to the herb s ... • 47. Itco321 Unit 1 Research Paper Unit 3 IP ITCO321 Anthony Thurman Stacks are containers of objects that are inserted and then removed according to Last In First Out (LIFO). This means that the last item inserted will be the first item removed. Inserting an item is referred to as Pushing, while removing an item is called Popping. A queue works a little different than a stack does, in that it follows First In First Out. So rather than having the last object removed first, the first object is removed first. Elements can be inserted at any time, but the only element that can be removed is the one that has been in the queue the longest.
