Sociological Effects Of Climate Change
Sociological Effects of Climate Change Sociologist perform an important role in the study and
report on climate change for our world. For example, in order to understand the effects of climate
change, sociologists study the implements of healthcare workers, influences directing politicians to
report or not report climatechange, big industry holders and what is at stake for them to lose or
gain, and the effects on the community by the decisions of these entities. The global skepticism and
uninformed views of climate change, a direct result of poor media reporting, government negligence,
and industries pay offs, impede the movement to counteract climate change from further destroying
the welfare of our world. To better inform societies around... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

this is one reason why doctors must take a lead in speaking out. (p. 312) Correlating the health care
decline of humanity to the effects of climate change, physicians can develop a new function in
society and educate their patients about climate change during a routine exam. The global goal,
through all these different directives, remains to inform societies and develop mitigation efforts.
However, whether the world understands or acknowledges climate change or not, the damage
caused by their negligence still accumulates at the expense of defenseless people. Several countries
neglect to adequately address climate change issues because wealthy industries fear the loss in
dividends and stifle the government from taking action while creating bias information for the
community. Often, conflict theory construes the best way of assessing the action of the powers to
be oppressing certain communities in order to achieve financial luxuries. The article, Does climate
change worsen resource scarcity and cause violent ethnic conflict, written by Lyal S. Sunga (2014),

French Armistice Day During The First World War
From family to friends to moments of silence, French Armistice Day is different for all. This day
is celebrated due to the anniversary of World War I. Almost a century ago, the first great war
ended. With the end, a new tradition was introduced to the people. On November 11 every year,
the French people celebrate French Armistice Day. Every year on the 11th of November, many
people are free of work for the day. French Armistice Day is a national holiday and all stores,
banks, post offices, and many businesses are closed. However, major highways and transportation
hubs are open. In Paris, some stores and bakeries are open too. It is a day to remember those who
died fighting for their country during the first World War. French Armistice Day

Each side was in a hopeless race between winning the war or from their home front collapses.
Between the alliances, disagreement was often occurring. From famine to a new leader, the
alliances began to fall apart. Germany felt betrayed after learning of secret peace negotiations
with France from the new ruler, Karl following Emperor Franz Joseph s death. Russia had pulled
out of the war by 1918 due to the Russian Revolution and an economy in ruin. Food and supplies
did not help their case either. There were small gains for each side and the spirit of the war was all

Ethical Issues In On The Waterfront
In the 1954 film On The Waterfront, Terry Malloy, the protagonist, wants to become a
prizefighter. Meanwhile, he has other priorities which include cultivating to his pigeons to prepare
them for racing while also running errands at the docks for Johnny Friendly. Johnny Friendly
began his childhood fighting in the streets and became involved in an organization that helped
him maintain self preservation. At first, Friendly appears powerful and commands respect but
throughout the film, he slowly begins to lose his power as Terry Malloy gains it. Terry witnesses
two of Johnny s thugs murder a man known as Joey Doyle and later meets the man s sister who
gets introduced to Father Barry. Father Barry tries to provide information from Terry to the sister in
order to give that information to the court, which will also destroy the dock criminals.... Show more

These decisions change when he meets Joey s sister, Edie who tries to turn him into a better
person. She is able to convince him that testifying against his friends is the morally right thing to
do. As simple as the dilemma may be, keeping the act of injustice secret as to not snitch on the
perpetrators without repercussions is a difficult task for Terry. With all of this moral injustice, it is
difficult for Terry to comprehend this because he was not prepared for education but for his up
and coming professional boxing career instead. His ignorance created problems and limited his

Contributions And Durkheim On Suicide
Г‰mile Durkheim on suicide.
Г‰mile Durkheim was a French sociologist, social psychologist and philosopher. Durkheim had an
important impact on the development of sociology. Durkheim s studies into suicide helped me in
understanding it as an issue in contemporary society. His most significant contribution was his work
defining suicide in social terms rather than individual terms. He was interested in how suicide might
be influenced more by social context and have a broader interpretation beyond the
individual.Durkheim wanted to prove that social situations, characteristics, activities, interactions
etc, influence and control individual and person behavior rather than the other way around.
Durkheim wrote a book called Le Suicide in 1897. This was a groundbreaking book in the field of
sociology. In this book Durkheim explores the differing suicide rates that are among society. In the
book Durkheim also distinguishes between four different types of suicide making is easier to
understand. He talks about the different rates of suicides and how they differ ... Show more content

Each of Durkheim s hypothesis involve some aspect of social state or social gender, age,
occupation, religion, marital status etc. He wanted to show that suicide was to be thought of in
social terms not individual terms which it had been thought as. Durkheim was seen as one of the
Fathers of sociology and his work is greatly admired. Durkheim s research and hypotheses have
helped my understanding of suicide in social terms and has helped me in seeing the different types
of suicide and the different rates. His work has shown me not only look at suicide from an
individual point of view but to look at the individuals social setting and social influences around
them and see how those influences have impacted the

Imagine a world without printers, everyday life would be much more difficult, especially in the
business world. Printers are used everyday whether it be for personal use, business, or education,
printers are vital to reach our expectations in technology. With a click of a button we can print
documents, pictures, and letters in a 2D format in color or black and white. Because of in
innovators we ve come so far with technology, we now have the capability of printing in 3D. What
is a 3D printer you might ask, a 3D printer is the most technologically advanced printer available
today, it is a printer that creates one 3D structure at a time. This is done by copying a structure that
already exists, whether the design only exists on your computer or the 3D printer can copy a
physical structure that already exists.
What was once only a thought is now reality, items such as clothing, tools, food and even organs
are being reproduced with 3D printers. Today, you can own a 3D printer that uses plastic for its
base material to create prototypes, toys, tools, and many other possibilities. In this paper we will be
looking at the history of printing, where its technology is leading us and its future.
The earliest form of printing was in 175 AD when the Han emperor in china had confucian classics
engraved to stone.

October 2000. The London based consumer goods company Diageo had recently announced its
intention to sell its packaged food subsidiary, Pillsbury, to General Mills. Earlier in the year, Diageo
also announced its intent to sell 20% of its Burger King subsidiary through an initial public offering
during

business, which produced and marketed a portfolio of beverage alcohol such as scotch, vodka, gin,
and tequila. Diageo s brands included Johnnie Walker, Smirnoff, J B, Bailey s, Gordon s, Tanqueray,
Cuervo, and Malibu. This division was not only the biggest (with revenues of ВЈ5 billion and the
leading market share in the U.S. and U.K. markets) but also the fastest growing of Diageo s
businesses, with sales growth of 8% for the year. More than 70% of sales and sales growth came
from the Europe and North

operating margins and growth in total operating profits of 15%. The high levels of operating profits
reflected Diageo s strategy of concentrating on premium brands and pricing. (Exhibits 1 and 2

Diageo s second largest division was Guinness Brewing, which produced and sold beer to markets

In 1926, the Village of Euclid vs Amber Realty Corporation was a historical event in planning,
why? It was the first significant case that addressed the new practice of zoning, and served to
substantially boost to zoning ordinances in towns nationwide in the United States and in other
countries.
In the case of Village of Euclid vs. Ambler Realty Corporation; Ambler Realty owned 68 acres of
land in the Village of Euclid, a suburban neighbor in Cleveland, Ohio. The village, in attempt to
prevent Cleveland industrializing their suburban neighborhood on November 13, 1922, general
counsel created a zoning ordinance for Euclid as an effort to stop the growth of industry which
would ultimately change the dynamics of the Euclid community. The zoning ordinance included 6
classes of use, 3 classes of height, and 4 classes of area. The property that Ambler Realty owned
was divided into the three different areas of classes and it prevented Ambler Realty from
developing the land for industrial purposes. Ambler Realty filed the lawsuit because of the zoning
ordinance that they said ultimately decrease the value of the land, limited the use of the land,
prevented the sale of the land and the also claimed that it violated their right to due process. Amber

The Hierarchy Of Needs Theory Essay
The Maslows Hierarchy of Needs Theory
Living beings act, and their behavior is driven by incentives, needs, and drives. Animals act only
by their instinctive desires. The behavior of animals is due to instinctive desires rather than by
thought. However, where does man s behavior originate from? Many psychologists have studied
this topic with interest. Man s behavior is also influenced by human desires. However, how human
desires influence human behavior is a very important issue. On this issue, psychologist Maslow
explores the hierarchy of needs theory through what human need is and how it affects human
behavior. Masslow s hierarchy of needs theory not only explains human behavior and causes well,
it has also influenced various fields. However, this theory has some limitations. First, Maslow s
hierarchy of needs theory is a theory that explains human behavior and causes. Maslow, a
psychologist, introduces Maslow s hierarchy of needs theory in [Motivation and Personality](1954).
This book testifies to his academic achievements and is the most important reference to those
interested in the theory of psychology, including psychology, pedagogy, business administration,
and social sciences, and the most cited psychology. It is considered one of the bible. In this book,
the Five Step Needs of Desire criticizes traditional behavioral psychological experiments and Freud

The Economy Of The Norse Peoples
The economy of the Norse peoples settled in Iceland evolved primarily around husbandry of
cattle, pigs, and goats. Livestock provided an array of foodstuffs and wool, which was used to
make cloth, while agriculture was geared more towards pastoral care and dairy farming than the
cultivation of cereal grains due to the cold climates and poor soil. Their grains consisted mainly of
oats and barley, which could be grown during the short growing season. Chieftains and wealthy
individuals also relied upon seafaring trade for valued luxury goods from continental Europe.
Economicswere deeply intertwined with social practices of the time. Kin groups functioned as
economic units. Members of the community often relied upon one another. The Haensa Thorir s
Saga is an example of close knit socioeconomic community struggling to preserve the health of
their pastorally based economy upon the backdrop of a poor harvest as a result of famine.
The Nordic people established extensive trade networks that transverse Europe and lined the
Scandinavian coast. Near the beginning of the story, Г rn, a Norwegian merchant, docked his
vessel in the Borgarfjord harbor with the intent to sell his goods. The local chieftain, Odd, visited
the merchants and declared that he always set the prices on goods that were sold there, to which
Г rn replied We ll deal with our goods as we see fit, whatever you say, because this cargo belongs
to us and not to you. Г rn challenges the political power of the

The Disappointment By Aphra Behn
Throughout The Disappointment , Aphra Behn critics the established gender roles in the
society particularly sexually. This can be seen in the relationship between Lisander who is the
male figure and Cloris who is the female one. In this poem, Cloris can be seen as the object of
desire while Lisander can be seen as the sexual object which challenges the pre established roles
in society. The first stanza reveals a side of Lisander that shows that he does not have a complete
control on his body. Indeed, the fact that the author says One day the Amorous Lisander/By an
impatient Passion sway d (1 2). The use of the word sway d shows that the passion drives him and
controls him while it should be the opposite. This situation questions the male identity because
Lisander, as a cavalier and a man, should be strong and show no weaknesses. Furthermore, the
end of this stanza reveals that Lisander does need Cloris to live in this world which shows that
she, unconsciously, has power over Lisander because he needs her. Behn writes that [Lisander]
was now descending to the Sea/And left no Light to guide the World/But what from Cloris
brighter Eyes was hurl d (8 10). There is an imagery there which the opposition between the fact
that Lisander has no light and Cloris has bright eyes. It shows that in their relationship, the woman
is needed and plays an important role. It has to be remembered that, back in the days, women were
dependant of men because of their lower social status,

Essay On Identity
Identity not only helped me define who I am, but the concept of identity helped me construct my

Confidence is hard to acquire living in such a competitive, evolving world. Everything in life is
a competition. My grades, personality, and confidence all contribute to who I am. Personally,
for me, it is hard to feel comfortable in every social setting. I tend to be shy and nervous when I
am around new people; however, a time in my life I feel most comfortable is now! I am a transfer
student from Fairfield University, halfway through my junior year at Marist College, and I have

Fairfield, especially physical appearance, which I found ridiculous. People were very judgmental
and unwelcoming. The environment around me affected my self confidence significantly, in a
negative way. Therefore, I felt trapped and alone. I almost felt like I was suffocating and there
was no way to escape this horrifying nightmare. One specific example I had at Fairfield
University contributed to my self esteem immensely. The friend group I made decided not to be
friends with me anymore because my ex boyfriends new girlfriend did not like my presence
when I was around. Basically, she made my life a living hell, and my so called best friends did
not even look me in the face when I walked by. That is when I knew it was time for a major
change in my life. After this experience I learned a lot about myself. For example, I was
discouraged by this particular situation; however, this experience made me realize how strong and
independent I am. Attending Fairfield University was not a mistake, it was a life lesson that made
me learn new qualities about myself, and helped shape not only my identity, but my life into

Type 2 Diabetes And Psychotic Depression Essay
Type 2 Diabetes and Psychotic Depression
Type 2 diabetes and psychotic depression interrelate in different ways. First, substances of abuse
such as cannabis, alcohol and tobacco have the potential to interfere with or change the
pharmacokinetics of the oral hypoglycemic agents used in treating diabetes in addition. In addition,
the use and presence of a comorbid psychiatric disorder like depression interfere with the
management of diabetes. The interference occurs by negative influence on patients adherence to
treatment adherence. There are also disorders such as phobia of needles and injections in psychotic
patients, which can make it difficult to diagnose and treat diabetes through blood glucose testing
and insulin injection. Such phobias interfere with the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Finally, patients
with psychotic depression are less likely to go for psychiatric test and treatment, thus delaying the
diagnosis or detection of co occurring diabetes.
Risk Assessment in Mental Health
Mental health services can manage risk and safety more effectively by involving service users in
planning for safety. However, conventional clinical techniques of risk assessment are obstacles to
creating normal and risk free physical life for admitted and recovering mental health patients. It is

The Demise Of Romeo And Juliet
The demise of Romeo and Juliet began when fate brought the two love struck children together.
At the beginning of the play, William Shakespeare writes a line showing the readers and
audiences how Romeo and Juliet s demise was by fate. In the prologue, while giving a
background about the play he states, From forth the fatal loins of these two foes/ A pair of star
crossed lovers take their life (Shakespeare Prologue.5 6). Shakespeare is saying that Romeo and
Juliet are born in two separate families, that have a long lasting and violent feud. Out of all the
people in Verona the two fall in love with each other. Another instance of the play that shows us
that fate plays a role in the demise of Romeo and Juliet is when Peter asks Romeo to read the
guest list aloud to him. Since Peter is illiterate he asks Romeo to read all of the people on the
guest list. Romeo reads, Stay, fellow. I can read. / Signor Martino and his wife and daughters...
/ Signor Valentine/ Mine Uncle Capulet, his wife and daughters, / My fair niece Rosaline and
Livia, / Signor Valentio and his cousin Tybalt, / Lucio and the lively Helena (I.ii.68 76). Out of
all the people in Verona Peter walks up to Romeo and asks to read the list. Not many people
were invited to the party, but Romeo s first love was. It was fate that led Romeo to attend Capulet

Persuasive Essay On Tally Thai
Tally Thai is located at the heart of Pensacola street and will satisfy any person who craves Thai
food in the comfort of their city. Along with the fresh seafood for sushi, Tally Thai has a vest menu
of items, with everything from tasty noodles to miso soup and ginger salad. As an individual who
barely eats sushi, or foodfrom Thailand in general, my roommates recommended that we eat at Tally
Thai for this assignment. The menu, like most traditional places, is organized to easily understand.
Beginning with traditional appetizers, this four page menu continues with soups, salads, then
entrees. To my surprise, the third page listed Thai appetizers, entrees, and sushi rolls, which I found
to be more conventional to culture in Thailand; with this, the menu ended on desserts and drinks, as
most restaurants do. There is no question that the menu is, without a doubt, not authentic instead it
is Americanized. If it were traditional, the rolls, especially, would not have been in english. With
basic names such as Philadelphia Roll and Gator Roll , it is clear to see the menu works with the
environment around it; being in a college town, most students would not be able to understand
names of entrees in a different language. Exemplarily, dishes such as the curryduck would be called
แกงเป็ด in this culture. Not Americanizing this menu would make it
impossible for individuals to order. A few entrees on the menu do, however, represent Thai culture.

The Importance Of Women s Rights And The Fight For Equality
Amelia Earhart once said, Women, like men, should try to do the impossible. And when they fail,
their failure should be a challenge to others (Earhart, n.d.). To me this statement means whether
we are women or men we shall forever challenge ourselves because when we fail, it should give
us the motivation to strive to accomplish more. For generations women have tried to be equal to
men. From generations before us, women were housewives and only housewives. They took care
of their children, men, and chores. However, there are now women in our military, there are some
women are business owners, chief executives, and much more. However, there is still more
changes that need to be made where women and men can be considered equal in all countries.
Women s rights and the fight for equality has come a long way in the United States. Decades before
us the Women s suffrage came into play (History, 2010). It was a way for women to stand up and
protest for their rights as a human because no matter If you re a man or a woman everyone
should have equal equality. However, it took awhile for the women to be heard, but when they
did, they passed the law for women to have the right to vote in 1920. Which is known as the 19th
Amendment (History, 2010). Considering the law that was being passed, over eight million women
across the United States voted for the very first time. Ever since then, women s right had continued
to grow. Especially during World War II, women s employment increased

The Duality Of Light And Darkness
On the Duality of Light and Darkness in A Tale of Two Cities The French revolution was filled
with bloodshed as the people of France rebelled against the aristocracy. In every heroic struggle
there s always a darkside and Charles Dicken s book. A Tale of Two Cities, exemplifies this
dynamic. The novel attempts to shed light on the point of lives of the middle class of Paris and
London s as they re trapped in the fighting fighting between the aristocracy and peasantry during the
French Revolution. The motifs of light and darkness present in the novel relate to three of the
characters in the novel Lucie Manette, Madame Defarge and Sydney Carton. Lucie represents light,
Madame Defarge represents darkness, and Carton is the manifestation of light and darkness. In A
Tale Of Two Cities, Lucie Manette represents light and tranquility because she is able to make her
father happy. Dr. Manette s dark past glooms upon him as the darkness from his mind prevails
because of his past in the Bastille prison which renders him scarred mentally from the depths of his
soul, however Lucie has the ability to make him forget about his dark past momentarily:
Only his daughter had the power of charming this black brooding from his mind. She was the
golden thread that united him to a Past beyond his misery, and to a Present beyond his misery: and
the sound of her voice, the light of her face, the touch of her hand, had a strong beneficial influence

Phonological Impairment
Within current research, it is acknowledged that phonological impairment may result in dyslexia. A
study by Lobier, Zoubrinetzky, and Valdois (2012) suggests that while phonological impairment
may be the root cause in some dyslexic patients, visual processing deficits may play a significant
role in dyslexia, especially in patients without phonological difficulties. More specifically, the
research aimed to support the hypothesis that the underlying impairment responsible for the VA
span deficit is visual, not verbal (2012, p. 768). To support the hypothesis, the study was designed
to compare the performance of typically developing children and dyslexic children on visual

The hypothesis that there is a significant visual component in dyslexia was supported by the
research findings and furthermore, is echoed in current developmental dyslexia literature. The
study found that dyslexic children had poorer performance on categorization tasks (letters, digits,
and symbols) for both verbal and non verbal stimuli. However, the study was limited and
contradictory in some findings and demonstrates a need for further research to investigate such
areas. Specifically, future research must address symbol processing and compare performance of
typically developing children to dyslexic children. Lobier, Zoubrinetzky, and Valdois (2012) found
that children with developmental dyslexia demonstrated deficits in symbol processing compared to
normal counterparts, while Ziegler et al. (2010) found that typically developing children and
dyslexic children had equal performance on symbol processing tasks. Additionally, future dyslexia
research could include variables such as crowding effects and binocular vision involvement to

problems and endeavor to solve them via discussion in order to reach a resolution (Lewicki,
Barry, Saunders, 2011). Negotiations occur regularly on micro and macro scales, both in the
professional or personal which could be at the office and or in everyday life. Your approach and
style can make the different between a make or break deal. If attaining an agreement in a
negotiation is based on collaboration and collaboration is based on trust, then to be an effective
negotiator you need to spawn trust between yourself and the other party. Trust comes from being
natural and being yourself, not from trying to be something you re not, a fake. Once you re aware
of your negotiation style you know what can realistically be improved and what can t. The purpose
of this paper is to outline my findings from reflective questionnaires and to compile a plan to
improve on my negotiation skills. Summary of Findings We as individuals are all tested during
various circumstances and given lots of occasions to test the validity of these individual
characterizations, and to determine the positive and negative elements of any style that we identify.
Some of the characterizations may come as second nature, while others may be uncomfortable and
less desirable for an individual. With completing the two questionnaires the Personal Bargaining
Inventory and the Communication Competence Scale questionnaires

How Has the Internet Changed the Music and Movie Industries
Music and motion pictures, two of the most popular forms of entertainment today, can easily be
traced back hundreds of years ago. Yet a relatively newer form of entertainment (and

internet. Recorded music, technically speaking, can be traced back to April 9th, 1860 with Au
Clair de la Lune by Г‰douard LГ©on Scott de Martinville . Though music existed long before
this date, it marks the first time music was successfully recorded. Movies (rather, plays) as well

Garden Scene by Louis Le Prince was filmed . Though music and movies have obviously... Show

Sony had the right idea: Betamax had a better picture quality than VHS, smaller tapes, and
stronger durability. Ultimately however, it is Sony s arrogance that solidified Betamax s future of
being synonymous with failure and unsupported technology in comedy and pop culture. Sony
decided not to license out the technology of Betamax players, meaning only Sony could produce
the players themselves in an attempt for more revenue. JVC (the inventor of VHS) on the contrary,
decided to license the technology to any company that wanted to manufacture the players. The
result is predictable: JVC permitting competing companies to manufacture VCRs resulted in more
choices and lower prices for consumers, making VHS the leading format for home movie
viewing. Both the music and movie industries now had strong, proven, and popular media formats
they could sell to consumers. The music and movie industry stayed fairly steady for a long period
thereafter. Music was as popular as ever, with multi platinum selling CDs not being uncommon.
Movie companies enjoyed increased revenue by releasing their films on the VHS format after their
theatrical release ran its course, and music companies were able to release

Throughout the great American history, Americans have been through a colossal amount of

differences. As America improves, they gradually lead to a making of a powerful and organized
government. Yet in South Carolina Ordinance of Nullification a conflict arises, where South

This lowered the tariff gradually over a decade and prevented any armed conflicts. (.loc.gov) This
shows the strength of the federal government over all the states. In conclusion, the Ordinance of
Nullification was a document with many personal opinions and conflicts. For example, the federal
government wasn t equal to the south, by letting north have the positive affect of the tariff of 1928
and south have the negative affect. In result south tried to show that they have more power than the
federal government by nullifying the tariffs. However all of this ended with an agreement.

The Flaws Of State Led Humanitarianism
Since the turn of the century, the world has experienced various events that have rendered millions
homeless, starving or even without a country. Such events may range from merciless persecution by
a ruthless dictator to a furious tsunami that leaves destruction in its wake. In such incidents, it is
human nature to help those affected rebuild their lives and find comfort again. As a result,
governments spend billions on foreign aid projects aimed at helping populations rebuild
themselves after a tragic event. Despite the funding and resources spent on these projects, their
success rate is dismal. Coyne s book explains the flaws of state led humanitarianism. Using case
studies that range from Afghanistan to Haiti, Coyne successfully argues against state aid proving
that continuing with that approach is likely to remain unsuccessful. He further demonstrates that
state aid fails to fulfill its mandate because the parties involved are either too arrogant or ignorant
to acknowledge fundamental flaws of state led aid. He says that the influence of agenda driven
opinions of blurs the objectives of financial assistance from the beginning. Since governments
focus on what they should, rather than what they can do, the goals of the most aid funded projects
in affected nations remain unrealized. In my opinion, Coyne s work is very convincing because it
methodically shows how aid moves from a state agency to the project in question and the various
parties in the middle that take away

Willy Loman Hallucinations
Literature has often been used to explain problems within society. This can be seen in Arthur

Informative Speech On Vaping
Imagine you are laying in a hospital bed. You wake up, the first thing you see is your doctor and
you hear him say, I m sorry, you have lung cancer. This is a situation that far too many people
have had to go through; especially those who smoke. According to the World Health Organization,
tobacco kills around 6 million people a year. This is alarming and certainly unacceptable,
especially when there is an effective, safer alternative. This alternative is called vaping .
Most people are very skeptical about the term. It is very easy to make assumptions about things
that you are not knowledgeable about. Also, when it comes to such a broad and controversial term,
it is even more so tempting to make these assumptions. Today I am here to bring you information. I

The basic definition of vaping is to inhale and exhale the vapor produced by an electronic cigarette
or similar device (Dictionary). If you have never heard of the term or have simply not researched
it, you may have quite a few questions. Questions such as, What is vapor? , What is an electronic

Double Use Of Performative Essay
This paper will compare the use of the performative two poems: The Lake Isle of Innisfree by W.
B. Yeats and Digging by Seamus Heaney. Both these poems will be analyzed individually and in
comparison with one another on several themes, being performativity and desire. The main subject
is how desire is expressed through the performative in both poems. First, a brief explanation of the
performative as defined by Bennett and Royle. A performative is a statement which constitutes an
action, thus it does not only describes an action but also preforms the action. An utterance as I now

Even (or especially) with its title, a literary text has begun to promise. (Bennett Royle 2016.
313). This quote of Bennett Royle can be applied to the title of Heaney s poem. The poem starts
off with a performative, namely its title, and hereby promises that the poem will dig. And
digging is exactly what the poem is doing the whole time. The performative act of the poem is
that the speaker is digging throughout it, but rather than digging with a spade, he is using his
pen to do it. The poem expresses the speaker s desire to keep digging, like his father and
grandfather did, but he wants to do it in a different way. That he is not going to dig with a spade,
becomes apparent in the last two lines of the poem The squat pen rests. I ll dig with it. (Heaney
1966, 2953) . Furthermore, the last line is actually a performative: he is not merely stating it, but
he will actually do it. On the second line, Heaney refers to his pen as a gun: The squat pen rests;
snug as a gun. (Heaney 1966, 2953). It demonstrates that he does not see his pen as just a pen , but
as his instrument, his weapon. By choosing his pen, Heaney is not digging in the sense of
unearthing or burying. The act of digging also means the act of remembering, this will be further

The Faults Of The Power Grid
Chapter: 1 Introduction
In today s modern world is heavily dependent on continuous and reliable power supply. Many of the
industrial processes, manufacturing, production, repairing, maintenance and not to forget a whole
city is heavily dependent on this continuous supply. It is a harsh reality to live in system without
problems is next to impossible. This problems in general are called faults in the power grid
language.
On daily basis many faults occur on the power grid and steps are to be taken to eliminate/remove
this faults as quick as possible. If the fault persists for long it could result in a havoc and loss of
huge amount of money, which is unacceptable.
The faults mainly occurring on a power grid includes over current, over voltage and short circuit. It
is also a harsh reality that this problems cannot be to some extent kept in mere attention of humans,
whose capability and speed to some extent are limited.
Hence a fast acting mind is required that takes care of this problem. To solve this problem PLC
(Programmable logic controller) comes into the picture. It is used to operate relays (a type of
switch) which in turn assists the CB (circuit breaker) to isolate the faulty part from the healthy
one as quick as possible. It operates as per the logic stored in the mind of the PLC by the user.
The program language used in PLC is very much simple and user friendly as compared to other
previously used software i.e. micro controller. The programs can be fed to the brain

Jeremy Bentham Criminal Justice Essay
Jeremy Bentham s Influence on the Criminal Justice System:
Past and Present The delivery of punishment has changed significantly over the centuries. Up until
the 19th century in England, imprisonment was not regarded as a punishment, it was merely used
while the offender waited to be sentenced to their real punishment (Bull, 2010; Hirst, 1998).
Corporal punishment such as flogging, branding and mutilation, death by hanging, and
transportation to other continents such as America and Australia were common punitive measures
through the ages, until well into the 1800 s (Newburn, 2003). Although these extreme penalties are
no longer acceptable or practised by criminal courts in England or Australia, in some ways, the past

In other words, a person may be tempted to commit a crime if there not a strong enough deterrent in
place. Hence, Bentham s solution to crime control was to address this pleasure/pain response by
imposing strict penalties proportional to the seriousness of the crime committed to discourage
people from offending (Von Hirsch, 1992). Although he did not support the death penalty,
punishment for committing crime was considered by Bentham as the lesser of two evils, necessary
for the health of society and the duty of the government to impose (Bull, 2010; Hudson, 2003).
Punishment, for Bentham, was a way to ensure the greatest happiness for the greatest number
(Rosen, 2003, p 221). Bentham argued that prevention, both general and specific, is paramount in
controlling crime. The imprisonment of the offender serves the purpose of specific prevention.
Specific prevention involves three tiers: incapacitation, reform/rehabilitation and deterrence
(Hopkins Burke, 2011). Firstly, incapacitation is achieved by physically removing an offender from
society, rendering them unable to reoffend (specifically, by placing them in prison). Secondly,
rehabilitation seeks to take away the desire to offend, by teaching the offender that any

Murderer! he said suddenly, in a low but clear and distinct voice (pg. 231). In just one word (Part
3, Chapter VI of Crime and Punishment), the stranger s direct label is a stabbing remark in
opposition of Raskolnikov s assumed identity. It is the debasement of a man god, to be more apt a
superman, who is ever so close to falling off the perch and into the abyss. It was impossible to be
sure, but it seemed to Raskolnikov that his face again wore its coldly hostile and triumphant smile

Crime is prestuplenie in Russian meaning transgressing whilst stepping over a boundary.
Raskol is a word meaning schism and it is fitting when applied to the boundary Raskolnikov
straddles. Staying on one side or crossing over to the other is a key binary opposition in this
chapter. Crossing over is akin to realizing the incomprehensible and that is heroic. Good and evil
are abstract terms with superfluous meanings to the superman that are replaced with the all
important word justice . The superman goes beyond good and evil by being morally skeptical of
the adoptive constraints placed on the ordinary people. Albeit, this comes with a caveat as
Raskolnikov tirelessly tries in vain to subjugate his conscience and love as well as contempt for
people threatens his identity. In this vein, I am inclined to agree with Sergei V. Belov when he
states whatever I might be, whatever I might do, whether I should be a benefactor of humanity or
whether I would suck out its vital juices like a spider, that does not matter to me. I know that I
want to rule, and that is enough (490). Here lies the conflict between the will to power and the will
to serve that challenges the theory. In catering to the love of the ordinary people, the superman
inadvertently reaches for the respect which brings them to his eye level and in effect grants them the

interpreted by literary critics as something else. I think the reason that Chesnutt s work seems

William Andrews saw that Chesnutt used the old time Negro model to create Uncle Julius
(Chesnutt, 378). Looking at the Goophered Grapevine, one of the main characters, Julius, is
seen as being a trickster. He seems to lie in order to fulfill his own desires. The author is
reaffirming the stereotypes of blacks by using the character in this manner. Which is, they are liars
and they will do anything to achieve what they need or want. This is how the old slave was
exploited. Although they were faithful in years they were portrayed as willing to steal or kill to get
what they needed. The reader is not sympathetic with Julius in the two stories. The other two main
characters are John, the narrator, and his wife Annie. According to Duncan, John and Julius
negotiate a new... relationship between two previously isolated American voices: the black and the
white, the rich and the poor, the North and the South (Duncan, 78). John and his wife represent two
sides of the white community; those who hold the beliefs of the plantation school and those that

Spiritual Nursing Practices
Spiritual beliefs and religious practices are parts of the lives of patients. However, medical
students, physicians, and care providers are often uncertain on whether, how, and when to address
the issues of spirituality and religion (Meehan, 2012). In earlier years, healthcare providers
received training in diagnosis and treatment of diseases, however, there was little or no training
pertaining to the spiritual needs of a patient in times of emergency. This essay explores contentious
issues in spiritual healthcare giving and the level of assistance healthcare nurses can offer to their
communities in the event of disaster. One of the issues that arise is the determination of the level
to which a healthcare provider can impinge their systems of belief upon patients. Professional
ethics requires that a healthcare provider does not impose their personal beliefs upon vulnerable
patients (McCormick Min, 2014). In the event of an artificial or natural disaster, the victims
usually require diverse types of approach since they come from various... Show more content on

During a disaster, nurses should be well equipped to offer a protective and calming atmosphere as a
favorable environment is vital for healing psycho spiritual trauma (Meehan, 2012). They should
offer their kindness, compassion, and patience as well. Further, the main ways nurses can assist
include spending time with patients, reading required scriptures, talking to them, listening
attentively, singing religious songs, and conducting prayer sessions (Boschman, 2011). To
summarize, there may be a considerable need for the holistic spiritual healthcare provision in times
of response to artificial and natural disasters. Although the significance of spirituality in nursing
practice is controversial, it should not be denied. Further, spiritual care can be implemented by

The artist Jules Breton drew The Song of the Lark in 1884. He painted oil on canvas.
The song of the Lark, there is a woman who stands on the field with holding hoe, and she stands
up with bare foot and watching the sky with an expressionless face. She wears white T shirt,
brown dress, and blue apron covered her stomach. The background view of his painting on mid
night with the sun goes down. Basically, Breton uses the light and value, the color, and the depiction
of the female figure in The Song of the Lark. Since he used of the oil paint, it provides many
various moods, and atmosphere such as depress, and melancholy. Breton s piece permits desert

Why Did The Patriots Win The Revolutionary War
On october 19, 1781 the British army surrendered at Yorktown, Virginia. Although the treaty had yet
to be signed, American independence had been accomplished. The Patriots had pulled off the most
improvable upset by defeating the most powerful military of the day. Although the British had more
troops, were highly trained, had more supplies, and a strong navy, the Patriots prevailed. Under the
leadership of George Washingtonalong with technological advancements in weaponry, aid from
foreign allies, new fighting techniques, coupled with medical innovations and an extensive spy
ring, a new nation is born. The Patriots had a very good leader to lead them. They had George
Washington. He was a good leader because he took risks to help the Patriots win the war. He would

He taught them discipline and taught them how to fight with bayonets. One of the ways he trained
them was he picked 100 men trained them then they would go train other Patriots what they just
learned. Then he would pick 100 more men to train. Von Steuben even wrote a manual on how to
fight and some of the techniques in there are still used today. Another reason that helped the
Patriots win was that the has some new technology that they learned how to use for war. They
learned how to use rifled barrels and they could shoot someone or something from 250 yards away.
This was good for shooting troops from farther

Class Is An Integral Part Of All Societies
Division has become an integral part of all societies. These divisions range from gender,
education, occupation and wealth. A combination of these and other dividing factors shape the
manner in which and individual is perceived by their peers in a social setting. These factors make
of the basis of a social class. Defined as a group of people who share economic resources that
influence their lifestyles, class is ingrained in the minds of individuals in all societies. Although
the elements that determines ones class may appear to be arbitrary they are integral to our daily
interactions whether we would like to accept it or not. We base our perception of individuals on
how they appear to us when we first encounter them. We then use these perceptions which are
sometimes false and highly inaccurate to determine who will and will not interact with. In
countries such as India class is so important that you are bestowed a class upon birth and no matter
how low or high ranking it is, you are meant to stay within that class for the entirety of your life.
This stringent system is called a caste. Although the class system seems arbitrary and unimportant
in the modern United States it is extremely important because the division of classes allows for
structured inequalities that have detrimental effects upon the populace. The United States is
branded as the land of opportunity. In the poem The New Colossus by: Emma Lazarus the
following is affirmed, Give me your tired, your poor, Your

Durkheim had an important impact on the development of sociology. Durkheim s studies into suicide helped me in understanding it as an issue in contemporary society. His most significant contribution was his work defining suicide in social terms rather than individual terms. He was interested in how suicide might be influenced more by social context and have a broader interpretation beyond the individual.Durkheim wanted to prove that social situations, characteristics, activities, interactions etc, influence and control individual and person behavior rather than the other way around. Durkheim wrote a book called Le Suicide in 1897. This was a groundbreaking book in the field of sociology. In this book Durkheim explores the differing suicide rates that are among society. This can be seen in the relationship between Lisander who is the male figure and Cloris who is the female one. In this poem, Cloris can be seen as the object of desire while Lisander can be seen as the sexual object which challenges the pre established roles in society. The first stanza reveals a side of Lisander that shows that he does not have a complete control on his body. Indeed, the fact that the author says One day the Amorous Lisander/By an impatient Passion sway d (1 2). The use of the word sway d shows that the passion drives him and controls him while it should be the opposite. This situation questions the male identity because Lisander, as a cavalier and a man, should be strong and show no weaknesses. Furthermore, the end of this stanza reveals that Lisander does need Cloris to live in this world which shows that she, unconsciously, has power over Lisander because he needs her. Behn writes that [Lisander] was now descending to the Sea/And left no Light to guide the World/But what from Cloris brighter Eyes was hurl d (8 10). There is an imagery there which the opposition between the fact that Lisander has no light and Cloris has bright eyes. Shakespeare is saying that Romeo and Juliet are born in two separate families, that have a long lasting and violent feud. Out of all the people in Verona the two fall in love with each other. Another instance of the play that shows us that fate plays a role in the demise of Romeo and Juliet is when Peter asks Romeo to read the guest list aloud to him. There is no question that the menu is, without a doubt, not authentic instead it is Americanized. If it were traditional, the rolls, especially, would not have been in english. With basic names such as Philadelphia Roll and Gator Roll , it is clear to see the menu works with the environment around it; being in a college town, most students would not be able to understand names of entrees in a different language. And when they fail, their failure should be a challenge to others (Earhart, n.d.). To me this statement means whether we are women or men we shall forever challenge ourselves because when we fail, it should give us the motivation to strive to accomplish more. For generations women have tried to be equal to men. From generations before us, women were housewives and only housewives. They took care of their children, men, and chores. However, there are now women in our military, there are some women are business owners, chief executives, and much more. However, there is still more changes that need to be made where women and men can be considered equal in all countries. Women s rights and the fight for equality has come a long way in the United States. Decades before us the Women s suffrage came into play (History, 2010). It was a way for women to stand up and protest for their rights as a human because no matter If you re a man or a woman everyone should have equal equality. However, it took awhile for the women to be heard, but when they did, they passed the law for women to have the right to vote in 1920. Which is known as the 19th Amendment (History, 2010). JVC (the inventor of VHS) on the contrary, decided to license the technology to any company that wanted to manufacture the players. Such events may range from merciless persecution by a ruthless dictator to a furious tsunami that leaves destruction in its wake. In such incidents, it is human nature to help those affected rebuild their lives and find comfort again. As a result, governments spend billions on foreign aid projects aimed at helping populations rebuild themselves after a tragic event. Despite the funding and resources spent on these projects, their success rate is dismal. Coyne s book explains the flaws of state led humanitarianism. Using case studies that range from Afghanistan to Haiti, Coyne successfully argues against state aid proving that continuing with that approach is likely to remain unsuccessful. He further demonstrates that state aid fails to fulfill its mandate because the parties involved are either too arrogant or ignorant to acknowledge fundamental flaws of state led aid. He says that the influence of agenda driven opinions of blurs the objectives of financial assistance from the beginning. Since governments focus on what they should, rather than what they can do, the goals of the most aid funded projects in affected nations remain unrealized. In my opinion, Coyne s work is very convincing because it methodically shows how aid moves from a state agency to the project in question and the various parties in the middle that take away ... Both these poems will be analyzed individually and in comparison with one another on several themes, being performativity and desire. The main subject is how desire is expressed through the performative in both poems. First, a brief explanation of the performative as defined by Bennett and Royle. A performative is a statement which constitutes an action, thus it does not only describes an action but also preforms the action. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even (or especially) with its title, a literary text has begun to promise. (Bennett Royle 2016. 313). This quote of Bennett Royle can be applied to the title of Heaney s poem. The poem starts off with a performative, namely its title, and hereby promises that the poem will dig. And digging is exactly what the poem is doing the whole time. The performative act of the poem is that the speaker is digging throughout it, but rather than digging with a spade, he is using his pen to do it. The poem expresses the speaker s desire to keep digging, like his father and grandfather did, but he wants to do it in a different way. That he is not going to dig with a spade, becomes apparent in the last two lines of the poem The squat pen rests. I ll dig with it. (Heaney 1966, 2953) . Furthermore, the last line is actually a performative: he is not merely stating it, but he will actually do it. On the second line, Heaney refers to his pen as a gun: The squat pen rests; snug as a gun. (Heaney 1966, 2953). It demonstrates that he does not see his pen as just a pen , but as his instrument, his weapon. By choosing his pen, Heaney is not digging in the sense of unearthing or burying. The act of digging also means the act of remembering, this will be further explained later in this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many of the industrial processes, manufacturing, production, repairing, maintenance and not to forget a whole city is heavily dependent on this continuous supply. It is a harsh reality to live in system without problems is next to impossible. This problems in general are called faults in the power grid language. On daily basis many faults occur on the power grid and steps are to be taken to eliminate/remove this faults as quick as possible. If the fault persists for long it could result in a havoc and loss of huge amount of money, which is unacceptable. The faults mainly occurring on a power grid includes over current, over voltage and short circuit. It is also a harsh reality that this problems cannot be to some extent kept in mere attention of humans, whose capability and speed to some extent are limited. Hence a fast acting mind is required that takes care of this problem. To solve this problem PLC (Programmable logic controller) comes into the picture. It is used to operate relays (a type of switch) which in turn assists the CB (circuit breaker) to isolate the faulty part from the healthy one as quick as possible. It operates as per the logic stored in the mind of the PLC by the user. Up until the 19th century in England, imprisonment was not regarded as a punishment, it was merely used while the offender waited to be sentenced to their real punishment (Bull, 2010; Hirst, 1998). Corporal punishment such as flogging, branding and mutilation, death by hanging, and transportation to other continents such as America and Australia were common punitive measures through the ages, until well into the 1800 s (Newburn, 2003). In other words, a person may be tempted to commit a crime if there not a strong enough deterrent in place. Hence, Bentham s solution to crime control was to address this pleasure/pain response by imposing strict penalties proportional to the seriousness of the crime committed to discourage people from offending (Von Hirsch, 1992). Although he did not support the death penalty, punishment for committing crime was considered by Bentham as the lesser of two evils, necessary for the health of society and the duty of the government to impose (Bull, 2010; Hudson, 2003). Punishment, for Bentham, was a way to ensure the greatest happiness for the greatest number (Rosen, 2003, p 221). Bentham argued that prevention, both general and specific, is paramount in controlling crime. The imprisonment of the offender serves the purpose of specific prevention. Specific prevention involves three tiers: incapacitation, reform/rehabilitation and deterrence (Hopkins Burke, 2011). Firstly, incapacitation is achieved by physically removing an offender from society, rendering them unable to reoffend (specifically, by placing them in prison). Secondly, rehabilitation seeks to take away the desire to offend, by teaching the offender that any ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Crossing over is akin to realizing the incomprehensible and that is heroic. Good and evil are abstract terms with superfluous meanings to the superman that are replaced with the all important word justice . The superman goes beyond good and evil by being morally skeptical of the adoptive constraints placed on the ordinary people. The author is reaffirming the stereotypes of blacks by using the character in this manner. Which is, they are liars and they will do anything to achieve what they need or want. This is how the old slave was exploited. Although they were faithful in years they were portrayed as willing to steal or kill to get what they needed. A combination of these and other dividing factors shape the manner in which and individual is perceived by their peers in a social setting. These factors make of the basis of a social class. Defined as a group of people who share economic resources that influence their lifestyles, class is ingrained in the minds of individuals in all societies. Although the elements that determines ones class may appear to be arbitrary they are integral to our daily interactions whether we would like to accept it or not. We base our perception of individuals on how they appear to us when we first encounter them. We then use these perceptions which are sometimes false and highly inaccurate to determine who will and will not interact with. In countries such as India class is so important that you are bestowed a class upon birth and no matter how low or high ranking it is, you are meant to stay within that class for the entirety of your life. This stringent system is called a caste.
