2. City
• This was my first edited photo in a while,
so I took a simple route and only messed
around with things like the colours. I did
this via the hue and saturation effect
slider. It was very simple yet very
effective at helping me make certain
colours stand out more. I also increased
the saturation slightly to me the image
look more washed. Another way I made
the pinks and purples stand out is by
tampering with the temperature levels. I
increased the temperature slightly as it
would make the image brighter therefore
making the colours seem more wild and
vibrant which would make the photo
more aesthetically pleasing. All of these
effects were very simple to do and only
required me to go into the image editing
section of photoshop and play around
with a a few sliders, which still gave a
good result based on what I wanted to
achieve. I was inspired to do this by the
colour scheme of Instagram's news app
logo
3. Sunset
• In this edit I decided to choose a photo with a lot of room so I
could explore more ideas. I decided to do a simple edit of the sky
and the colour levels of the picture. I changed the light levels and
exposure to create a dark effect to make the photo seem like it
was taken at sunset. I also added a background into the sky
which made it look like the stars are out in the photo, but just
adding a low opacity background image of stars and fading the
edges so it fit into the pictureFor this photo I wanted to create
something new for me and use some
techniques I wasn’t used to. First of all, I
started by decreasing the light levels and
brightness to make the image feel like it
was taken at sunset. I did this by using
the image editing sliders on photoshop.
After this is used the light level curve
editing tool to make it slightly lighter at
the bottom of the image in contrast to it
been darker in the top of the image. This
is so it looked like there was a small
amount of sunlight on the ground, but
you could begin to see the stars in the
sky slightly still. I then increased the
exposure to make the light flare seem
brighter than it was. Finally to create the
starry effect in the sky I took an image
from google and gave it its own layer
behind the image I was editing, and I
then deleted some of the image I was
editing so you could see the sky through
it. I the changed the opacity of the sly so
that the stars were harder to see giving
off the sunset impression as the suns
light would make it harder to see the
stars
4. In this image, I wanted to create a setting in
which an eclipse was happening. But I wanted
to do it from an image that was completely
opposite in terms of lighting and colours etc.
I started off by changed the photo to black
and white via my own path, not using a
photoshop filter. I used the saturation slider to
decrease the saturation levels to make the
scene look a lot more darker and gloomy. I
also used this same technique but with the
lightness slider to make the image more black
to give off a sense off eeriness. To create the
eclipse effect, I actually just took an image of
the moon and filled it in the with paint and
centred it in the sky of my main image via a
separate layer so I could edit it. Before I added
the moon image, I used the paintbrush tool
with white paint and about 3% hardness to
create white mist effect around the mood to
create a sun ring effect, I then went into filter
options and selected the fitting lens flare to
make the image seem more realistic.
5. Reflection
• What elements of your experiments will you include in your final
product?
• I will be influenced heavily by my experiments as the techniques
and editing styles I used in them are ones I would like to use in my
real project, here I was just testing them out to see if I was able to
do them properly. I will most likely use the layering effect to edit
sky's and other things if need be as it worked really well here. I will
also use the hue and saturation sliders a lot as this will help me
easily change the colour focus of a photo. The main strength to this
was the fact that I discovered some useful techniques I am going to
use in my final project which will allow me a higher grade potential.
A weakness of it is that I didn’t have much time so I couldn’t
explore some of the other techniques I wanted to use which means
in my FMP I will have to attempt them blind which may cost me
some time
