Electromagnetic radiation consists of transverse waves produced by electrically charged particles that transfer energy through photons. All electromagnetic waves travel at the same speed but have varying frequencies and wavelengths, ranging from radio waves to gamma rays on the electromagnetic spectrum. The type of matter determines whether it absorbs, reflects, or transmits light, with opaque materials blocking all light, translucent materials partially transmitting light, and transparent materials fully transmitting light.
