Electromagnetic Radiation
Electromagnetic Radiation- transverse waves produced by the motion of electrically charged particles. The transfer of electromagnetic waves is called radiation.
Photons- tiny bundles of radiation. All wave travel at the same speed (3 X 10 8 or 300,000,000 m/s) but the frequency and wavelength varies.
Electromagnetic Spectrum Radio waves Infrared Visible Light Ultraviolet X-rays Gamma Rays *Radio waves include microwaves and cell phones.* -Increasing frequency -Increasing photons -Decreasing wavelengths
As you go from radio to gamma rays, there are more waves. Wavelength also decreases and frequency increases.
The type of matter determines the amount of light it absorbs or reflects. Opaque Translucent Transparent
Opaque – material that absorb or reflect all light so you can’t see through it. Translucent - material that allow some light to pass through so you can’t clearly see through it. Transparent- material that allow all light to pass through so you can clearly see through it.
Transparent Ex: Glass or Transparency Translucent Ex: Plastic or waxed paper Opaque Ex: Walls, doors or you
