International Response To The Rwandan Genocide In The 20th...
Rwandan Genocide
Throughout the 20th century, numerous acts of genocides have attempted to bring the complete
elimination and devastation of large groups of people originating from various particular ethnicities.
With these genocides occurring in many regions of the world, the perpetrators often organizing such
crimes, have historically been larger and more powerful than the victims themselves. Often being the
government and its military forces. However, the lack of international response associated with these
genocides, further contributed to the devastating outcomes. On April 6,1994, the fastest killing spree
of the century took place in Rwanda against the Tutsi minority population. With many warning signs
having already been proclaimed prior to the start of the Rwandan genocide, I believe that with
international interference, this bloodshed could have ultimately been prevented.
Rwanda is a country located in Central Eastern Africa, with an extensive history of colonization, after
Belgium attained control in 1924. Belgium s rule however also marked the beginning of a lengthy
ethnic rivalry between the Hutu and the Tutsi people. Belgium favored the Tutsi the minority at 14
percent of the population over the Hutu, the majority at 85 percent, simply because the Tutsis were
more resembling of the Europeans. Colonial policy helped to intensify bipolar differentiation between
Tutsi and Hutu, by inscribing ethnic identification on identity cards, by relegating the vast majority of
Hutu to particularly onerous forms of forced cultivation and corvee, and by actively favoring Tutsi in
access to administrative posts, education, and jobs in the modern sector, (Newbury, 12). Belgium s
control fueled the Hutu s resentment towards the Tutsis because the Tutsis received superior treatment
for decades. Thus, when Rwanda finally acquired independence in 1962, the Hutus fought for control
over the government, highlighting the first warning sign of the genocide to come. Many Tutsis were
killed afterwards, while many others fled to neighboring countries to escape the violence.
The second warning sign appeared, in the spring of 1992, [when] the Belgian ambassador in Kigali,

Recycling Nuclear Waste Essay
One major unresolved issue arises as the result of using nuclear power: what happens to waste
generated in this process. As of right now, the waste is stored on site or in deep geological repositories.
However, with what was to be the country s end all storage site (the Yucca Mountain repository) no
longer an option due to recent legislation, long term storage seems unfeasible. In addition, as more
nations move towards reprocessing, there are experts and lawmakers in this country who have been
looking into reprocessing the country s nuclear waste as well. While many experts say that
reprocessing is the best solution for freeing the country of the nuclear waste issue, there are others
who say that reprocessing is simply too dangerous and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the fueling process, nuclear rods are made of 95 percent non fissionable uranium found in
everything from granite tabletops to the coal burned for electricity in coal plants. The rest of the spent
rod consists of two fifths of useable nuclear fuel (one fifth being uranium and the other being
plutonium) and the three fifths that remain are valuable in both industrial and medical processes
(Tucker, 2009). With the knowledge that nuclear waste is not actually waste many are lead to the
conclusion that reprocessing is a good, if not great idea, however there are an equal number of
opponents that say that regardless of the possible benefits that come from reprocessing it simply is not
the way to go.
Before discussing the arguments for and against nuclear waste reprocessing, there needs to be an
understanding of what reprocessing actually is. Reprocessing is a very delicate and complex process.
Katherine Ling briefly describes the process in her article Is the solution to the U.S. nuclear waste
problem in France? She describes the process as a ballet of industrial strength robots. She goes on to
explain that spent fuel rods are stored for a few years in demineralized water to cool. Once cool,
machines will lift them out, chop them up, and drop them into vats of acid. The dissolving of the rods
allows for the harvesting of any fissionable uranium and plutonium (Ling, 2009). With the knowledge

The Destructors Conflict Essay
In the book The Destructors, the conflict is between man vs. man and man vs. social The Wormsley
Common Gang of boys in the book include, Blackie, Mike, Joe, Summers, and T.. They all come from
different backgrounds. T. comes from a upper class background which in reality would have made him
a target for the gang instead of an actual member. Blackie is the original leader of the gang. He is not a
fan of the upper class and only cares for the group. Mike is still a family by. He continues to obey his
parents when they tell him that it is time to get either to dinner or to church. Joe is a simple character.
He is all about destruction and votes first for any activity that is related to destroying the week being

when we see conflict between man vs. man. The gang had put Mr thomas in the outhouse and didn t

Gender, Masculinity, And The Hegemonic View Of Masculinity
Intro
Masc for masc (masculine looking for masculine) and straight acting (not being seen as a stereotype
and being able to be excepted by heterosexual men) are terms used by Gay men to classify the type of
man they are looking for in a partner; actively rejecting and devaluing femininity and upholding the
hegemonic view of masculinity. Therefor I am researching the how do gay and straight Latinos
construct their masculinity? Straight men deem anything feminine as less than, thus gay men are
ousted. This ousting of gay men is a byproduct of heterosexism in which a men only date women and
vice versa, thus gay men are seen as effeminate for the sole reason of dating other men. In an attempt
to reclaim their lost masculinity gay men are rejecting effeminate men in an attempt to be seen as one
of the good gays . The traits of reclaiming what gay Latinos feel is lost is strongly tied to femiphobia,
internalized homophobia, and toxic masculinity. Gay men want to be seen as normal and just one of
the guys at the cost of their fellow gay men s humanity and manhood. They want to be seen as the
good gay which I define as a gay man that wants to be removed from the stereotype and behaves and
present as straight I want to investigate how gay Latinos specifically construct their masculinity and if
they are contracting it based on their straight counterparts. It is important to distinguish how important
masculinity is to Latin men specifically gay Latinos and see if a

MLA style is widely used in humanities fields, whereas APA style is commonly used in social science
fields. Citations will be used throughout a paper when quoting from a source using the exact words.
MLA style documents the last name of the author s as well as the page number of where the cited
information is found in the physical text. In contrast, APA style documents the author s last name and
the year the source document was published in the physical text, these are called in text citations. Both
styles have a full list of references at the end of the paper. MLA style citations will be listed as Works

Essay on Frank Lucas; American Gangster
Frank Lucas; American Gangster What is the one thing every person, white or black, rich or poor,
American or Hispanic, wants to have plenty of in their possession? If it s green, flimsy paper with
different values on the front then money is the answer. Whether it s 19th Century, 20th Century, or
21st Century, people work, steal, worship money. Human beings aren t always satisfied with the
amount of money they have, so they work harder, steal, rob, or cheat hoping to satisfy their money
obsession. This describes the efforts and actions of an American Gangster named Frank Lucas. Frank

The same goes with Satan. He begins to realize that trying to be on top isn t going to be easy, for now
the thought/ Both of lost happiness and lasting pain/ Torments him. (1. 54 56). Both Frank Lucas and
Satan realizing there power thirst comes with major consequences they didn t expect. Both Satan and
Frank Lucas give the reader and audience an intrigue that is likeable. Frank Lucas has this way of
carrying himself as the man around town, no one messes with him but fear him. That s power that
people are gravitated towards to like, being the center of the world. Also this intrigue rubs off onto
Frank s brothers. They are canceling there dreams in there mind because they want what Frank has,
rich and fame. Satan also has that feature. The way he believes he can be equal to God makes you feel
his confidence. You are intrigued in his decision making and are curious to see if he succeeds. He also
is good at rubbing this business of his to other angels who end up following him. People look up to
them and want what they have. In the end, both Frank Lucas and Satan have the urge to be the most
powerful person, have it all, but don t succeed like they had hoped. Frank Lucas gets caught and put in
jail, and Satan has to keep wishing he could have equaled the Most High (1. 40). While they are both

Personal Narrative-Achieving My Goal
Achieving My Goal
I have played volleyball for 4 years. I wanted to play for my school volleyball team, and I ended up
joining. My coaches helped me a lot in my first year, and told me I was very skilled. They told my
parents about how they should let me try out for a volleyball club. I made the team, and I have played
club volleyball ever since. I am currently at Maverick Volleyball Club, and I have been playing in the
All American team (the lowest team). I have been going to the open gyms at Maverick, and there are
many girls who are very skilled at volleyball. They could pass beautifully, set so well, and then spike
the ball down perfectly. Since this year I will be in the 14s age group, I have decided I want to train

Some more girls went and it was my turn again. Boom! Same thing, I hit the volleyball down every
time.
The tryout was over, and all the girls ended up sitting in a circle. The head coach started calling
numbers to be on the All American teams. My number was not called. Next, they had all of the girls
from their elite team last year go up and sit in a circle. They already had all of the same players as last
season and were not looking for any new players. They started to call up numbers for the nationals
team. I was so nervous. What if they didn t call my number? They called girls up number by number.
51, the head coach yelled.
No way. I was number 51. That is me. I walked up by the rest of my future team and future coach.
They all had smiles on their faces. I was the only new girl on their team. I had achieved the goal I had
aspired to reach. The coach talked to us for a while about how the season would go if we accepted the
contracts, how much fun we would have, and how much better we would be by the end of the season.
I was thrilled. Now it was time to tell my

Importance Of Shakespeare In Schools
Shakespeare in Schools
Shakespeare s writing has been taught to most everyone in the modern world. He was a very
influential writer who changed our style of writings today in many ways. His tragedies and poems
have been read and performed for nearly five hundred years. Shakespeare created an abundance of
common words we use everyday such as blanket, and dawn. Who would ve known? He also created
his own type of writing called Shakespearean sonnets. At most schools, you read several works of his
before you graduate, like Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth. High Schools in America should invariably
include William Shakespeare in their curriculum at least once a year. For many reasons Shakespeare is
beneficial to teach to everyone at some point in their life. Most teens do not particularly like reading
Shakespeare, but if they choose to comprehend it, they might like it. In the article Why Read
Shakespeare it says, The better you understand literature, the better you understand life . Michael
Mack is making a general statement that when you understand literature, you will like it more and you
will comprehend life better as well. With this said, you can apply it to reading Shakespeare. Even if it
takes a couple of times reading it to understand, you will enjoy and learn from his works if you just
give it time. Also, most of the themes and emotions revealed in Shakespeare s writings are still
relevant today. Chandra Johnson said, Like the Bible, Shakespeare s works are full of

Albert Bandura s Observational Learning Theory
Observational Learning Theory By studying Frank Sinatra through the lenses of the Observational
Learning Theory much can be understood. Albert Bandura s Theory states that individuals learn by
observing. His experiment included a Bobo doll an adult actor and a child observer. Bandura picked
an object, a Bobo doll, that the children had never been exposed to and their fore did not know how to
react to it. He then had the children observe the adults hitting and kicking the doll. Then when the
children were placed alone in a room with the doll they began to emulate what they watched the adults
do. Consequently, showing that the children learned how to interact solely by observing others
interactions. This theory explains numerous behaviors and encounters that Frank Sinatra had. He often
resembled the actions of his mother and father. Frank s Mother Natalia or Dolly was resourceful, she
utilized her understanding of English and Italian language to make herself an invaluable translator for
immigrants during court proceedings (Kaplan, 2016, Sachs, 1995, Sinatra, 1985). This involvement
with the courts allowed her to gain the respect of many local politicians and eventually lead to her
becoming a Democratic leader in her community. Dolly was also entrepreneurial, she was the first
immigrant woman to hold any position in her local democratic office. Clearly this took immense
determination that she demonstrated multiple times during the Woman s suffrage movement were she

How To Build A Golf Cart
If you own a golf cart, or are thinking about purchasing one, you want to get the most out of your
investment. Adding some useful accessories is a super way to accomplish that objective. Here are four
handy items you can add to your golf cart to increase its usefulness.
Covers and Enclosures
No matter how often you use your golf cart, you want to keep it good condition. An excellent way to
ensure your cart stays looking like new is to add either a functional enclosure, or a custom cover. The
enclosure does more than just preserve your cart s condition. Enclosures allow you to use your cart in
all weather conditions, plus they protect the inside of your golf cart.
Covers will completely protect your golf cart when you re not using it. Just because you add an
enclosure, that doesn t mean a cover is also not a good accessory to have. A golf cart cover is a
protective blanket over your entire cart. It keeps dirt, grime and weather off your investment. Consider
both an enclosure to increase the usability of your golf cart, plus a full cover ... Show more content on

Little Miss Sunshine Stereotypes
Little Miss Sunshine When we think about beauty pageants, we think about beautifully tanned girls
with beautiful glittery makeup, a perfect physique and teeth to match, extravagant glitzy dresses, over
the top hair, and not to add someone with an extraordinary talent. However, the iconic film Little Miss
Sunshine completely shatters that stereotypical view that we have of the pageant as well as changes
our view on how families function. Little Miss Sunshine is a film about an 8 year old girl named Olive
Hoover, who is obsessed with being in pageants and is looking to become the next miss America,

compete in her place has to drop out of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One moral is that you should never give up on yourself and never give up no matter how turbulent
things may get. This moral was exercised in many scenes throughout the entire film such as in the
beginning of the film we see Richard giving a motivational speech to a sparse group of people, the
message being to never give up. When he comes home for dinner he gives everyone at family dinner a
speech on how it is a dreadful thing to be a loser. Before they set off to Redondo Beach he also asks
Olive if she thinks she will be able to win the competition because if she doesn t have any faith in
herself they may as well not even waste time traveling to the pageant. The film conveys this message
in a comical way (the breaks not working on the car, Frank running into his ex while buying porn, and
the family bickering) as well as in an emotional way such as when Grandpa Edwin passes away and
Dwayne finding out that he is color blind. The mixing of these two elements (comedy and evoking
sadness) in my opinion make the genre of this film a dark comedy or it could just be classified as a
comedy drama. Going off of that, the film shows that being a winner doesn t just mean being the best
at something. Olive was poised to be the underdog for the entire film. We, the viewers as well as Olive
s family knew that Olive wasn t comparable to her competition, however, Olive did not let that stop
her and she continued her routine

Commentary On Founding Brothers By Joseph Ellis
The book Founding Brothers by Joseph Ellis is a nonfictional historical novel focusing on the lives,
achievements and the interesting situations of the founding fathers that came up and occurred, while
also the description of how America came to be American (revolution of America). Founding
members of the revolutionary generation secured their legacies through battle and later through
legislation, but many were unaware of what happened behind the scenes of the hardships and
dedication it took to do the things that needed to be done. The book reminds me that Americans today
take our freedom for granted, but our founding fathers had to fight to separate us from the British and
their tyrant s ways. Revolutionaries like Thomas Jefferson and Thomas Paine suggested that colonial
independence from England was not only plausible but was meant to be. No other colony at that time
in history had ever successfully won its independence to form a lasting republic. The United States
remains the oldest surviving republic in history, but the steps needed to get there were mind boggling,

Essay On City Council Meeting
The process of the City Council meeting was very interesting and long. There were many things that I
learned in this meeting because it was the first meeting that I have been to for the city. Everything was

that I went so Vice Mayor Harold Hanson took his spot. He mentioned how the Mayor had not missed

Hearing what the Vice Mayor said about the Mayor showed the residents of Bakersfield and I how
important and how serious the Mayor takes his job. It showed that the Mayor really cares for the
people of Bakersfield even though many disagree with me. Vice Mayor Harold Hanson begins with an

Interest Point Detectors
Interest Point Detectors
Introduction:
How it started
Our original idea was to implement the beginning stages of a paper on measuring the driver fatigue
detection from a sequence of images []. Majority of accidents reported are due to driver fatigue. One
of the important parameter to be detected to measure the driver s alertness is to track his/her eyes in
the given image sequence. Eye detection is an active research area in computer vision. Applications
can range from face detection to biometrics. Canthus (Eye corners) is a very stable feature that can be
constantly detected from a facial image irrespective of the eye status or gaze direction. Canthus is
initially defined and treated as a corner (interest point). Interest point detectors like Harris and
SUSAN are being studied and discussed in this report. These corner detectors are evaluated to find
which one suits best for this application. Interest Points
An interest point is a relatively important kind of localized two dimensional image structure with a
mathematical description. It can be defined as the intersection of two edges or as a point with two
dominant and different edge directions. Corners , T , Y and X junctions have the same definition and
fall under this category. Although the interest points constitute a very small portion in the image, the
information on shape is concentrated at these points.
Image corner detection is an important task in various computer vision and image understanding

The Western Media Democratic Promotion Against The East
The 2010 airing of the Nobel Peace Prize awards ceremony was met with controversy from numerous
ends of the world, as its recipient was the jailed Chinese activist Liu Xiaobo. It has been argued by the
Chinese government and outlets that this event is a product of the media and by doing so critiques the
broadcast as a representation of western imperialism and as such highlights the limits of the liberal
political press model. The communist party ran newspaper Global Times attacked the broadcast as a
political tool of Western interests , and whether agreeing or not with this accusation, it is easy to
understand why such a conclusion can be made. This case can be analysed in some ways as a case of
the western media democratic promotion against the east.
The idea of democratic supremacy can be argued thoroughly when deliberated through a political

What is the purpose of strategy?
See Chapter 1, Exhibit 01: Strategic management consists of the analyses, decisions, and actions an
organization undertakes in order to create and sustain competitive advantages: strategy directs the
organization toward overall goals and objectives; includes multiple stakeholders in decision making;
incorporates both short term and long term perspectives; recognizes trade offs between efficiency and
effectiveness.
An interesting question that the instructor can ask at this point is: what business is Robin Hood s
organization in? Some students might say philanthropy, some might say robbery. The answers to this
question will help students understand the importance of vision and mission: the leader must have a
clear idea of the purpose of the business, and who it competes with, in order to craft strategy. If the
business is robbery, there are different competitors, like highwaymen.
2. What strategic problems does Robin Hood have?
Robin Hood s organization is in a profit squeeze: revenue is down and costs are rising. In addition,
there are cracks in the culture of the organization. Issues that need to be addressed include: How to
avoid detection of the growing organization? Has Sherwood Forest become too small to sustain
operations? What to do about the growing strength of the Sheriff s forces? How to address

Ethical Issues Facing The Health Care Profession
Ethical Issues Ethical issues are moral challenges facing the health care profession (Stanhope
Lancaster, 2012, p. 127). Ethical issues are major concern in the healthcare field because healthcare
providers observe ethical issues every day and have to make ethical decisions. A great example in the
medical field is advance directives these documents are written to address individual s medical
preferences. These documents usually take effect when patients are no longer able to make informed
health care decisions for them. These documents are helpful to everyone and health care providers,
there are ethical considerations that can make the use of advance directives difficult (Llama, 2014).
This author is a geriatric nurse that recently observed an advance directive ethical issue in the clinical
setting. The purpose of this paper is to outline the steps of ethical decision making within the seven
steps for the framework. This paper will also identify the facts of the case from the perspective of each
person impacted by the situation and identify which ethical principles were involved in the situation.
Ethical Issues and People impacted Advance directives can become ethical issues especially when a
family attempts to enforce their opinions on healthcare instead of what a patient had requested in a
living will. Advance directives, sometimes called a living will, are legal documents that allow an
individual to spell out your decisions about end of life care ahead of

Capgras Delusion Essay
Introduction
The Capgras Delusion is one of the rarest and colorful syndromes in neurology. The patient fails to
recognise the faces of close acquaintances and calls them as an imposter . They claim that the person
looks like or is identical to someone they know, while continuing to believe that they are two different
individuals. The delusional belief is strongest when the putative imposter is present [2]. Capgras
delusion is classified as a delusional misidentification syndrome, a class of beliefs where the patients
have delusional beliefs that involves misidentification of people, places or objects.
The delusion is mostly common in patients diagnosed with neurodegenerative diseases; such as

Adapted from Ellis et al. (1997), Proc. R. Soc. B.
This theory fails to answer two major questions. First, why is the phenomenon specific to close
relatives? One possibility, as suggested by Ramachandran el al., is that only with parents or a spouse
does one seek emotional arousal thus its absence leads to a confabulatory delusion that one s parent is
an imposter. With an emotionally neutral person on the other hand, one does not expect such arousal,
and therefore there is no incentive for generating a delusion. The second major question is why the
lack of emotional arousal can have such drastic delusions? Why does the patient not accept the fact
that the loved one is not an imposter but can no longer feel the warmth? There can be some extra
lesions, perhaps in the right frontal cortex, which is responsible for generating such an extreme
delusion. The left hemisphere seeks to preserve consistency by explaining for any discrepancies,
whereas there may be a global consistency checking mechanism in the right hemisphere which serves
to counter balance this tendency (Ramachandran 1995).
Damage to such a mechanism due to a right hemisphere stroke may lead to Capgras Delusion, where
one needs a conjugation of two lesions: one which affects the global consistency checking mechanism
in the right hemisphere and the other affecting the consistency.

The Horror Genre Of Horror Films Essay
The horror genre has become a popular genre among the movie industry. It has become a popular
genre since it has been evolving throughout the years it has been around, but one of its major climax
points was when the subgenre of zombies came into the mix. The zombie genre became very popular
in the year 1968 when it was first introduced in George Romero s film Night of the Living Dead.
Night of the Living Dead is one of the most prominent zombie films till this date especially since it
has introduced a new monster into the movie industry that nobody would have expected. Romero s
film intertwines with what Noel Carroll is telling us in his article Why Horror? that it is all about the
monsters that appear in the horror film. Noel Carroll s idea of the monster being the main attraction in
all horror films is somewhat true and it showed it when the audience went to watch the film by George
Romero since he introduced the zombies and it caught the audience curiosity. As soon as he caught the
audiences curiosity with the zombies they would just be focusing on the monster especially trying to
figure out how they came to be and how does one end up destroying them. Andrew Tudor in his article
titled the same as Carroll s has a different approach of explaining horror films, but in some aspect, it
relates to Carroll s claim about the monster that appears in the films. Tudors article is not about the
audiences curiosity to the monster, but about the way the audience sees the

Themes In Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken
THE ROAD NOT TAKEN Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken, is a poem, or even a tale many readers
will relate to. It is a narrative of the choices in life and the crossroads in which the individual is faced
with. In the lines, there is quite clarity in the decisions and feelings of Frost throughout. His use of
imagery to paint beautiful landscapes and countless sub thoughts is extraordinary, yet he does it with
such few words. Although one could see this poem for how it reads and view the story of a solemn
traveler pacing down a road, when diving deep into its actual text one sees that Frost is trying to paint
a much deeper picture. This metaphor of a poem is written a way that anybody who reads it can
understand and relate. From each of the simple lines to the groupings of intricately placed words, this
work of art brings out the meaning and passion in a well lived life. In the first stanza the setting is laid
out before us. A fork in the road in the middle of a yellow wood. These two paths are unknown to the
solemn traveler. The first line in the poem states yellow wood, which gives the feeling that it would be
more of an autumn season. The autumn season is the beginning of dormancy in the forest life. It also
signals the nearing end of another joyous year. In life we have cycles just like the seasons cycle.
Periods of new growth such as spring or a new relationship perhaps. Summer, where we are enjoying
the things we have to the fullest. There is fall, when something nears to an end such as a vacation, the
ending of the year or maybe childhood when one must think about getting out in the world. Then,
there is winter: the darker portion of the cycle of life. The point in which we are waiting for the new to
begin or praying for the hurt to subside.
This cycle of life, and particularly the season of autumn, seems to pair up with the fork in the road or
the point where the traveler is ending this stretch of road and must embark upon a new path. Just as it
is in life when one period begins to draw to an end we must begin to think of the next set of choices or
paths to take. Most options in life do not allow for someone to have both. Just as the traveler we, too,
must choose a path for ourselves.

Argumentative Essay On Maternity Leave
While doing some research, I have learned that maternity leave has become quite an issue. In Virginia,
we do not have a state law that specifically requires employers to offer pregnancy leave. Although, we
do have the Human Rights Act that must provide some leave for those women who are disabled by
pregnancy. Being disabled by pregnancy means that you can no longer do certain activities so that the
mother can deliver safely and care for the newborn. In America, the U.S. has a policy, The Family and
Medical leave Act of 1993. It is mandating 12 weeks of unpaid leave annually. Unfortunately, only
four states have paid maternity leave. The four states are California, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and
Rhode Island. California and New Jersey gives you 6 weeks and Rhode Island gives you only 4
weeks. Research has shown that women in the United States are more likely to drop out of work force
voluntarily due to lack of time with the infant and stress. After just looking at maternity leave in
America, I decided to branch out and do other countries. I wanted to compare the difference between
the two. Upon doing some research I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Jon Krakauer’s Into the Wild and Tim O’Brien’s How to Tell...
People try to understand the world through perception of experiences that they encounter. These
encounters include either living through the experience first hand or the experience being conveyed by
another person. Our perception weeds out main ideas from those experiences deeming them realistic
and if so labels them truths. However, our perception of the obtained truth from those experiences is
not always credible because as a recipient we are restricted to the amount of experience we can retain.
Meaning the perceptions of the labeled truths is a result of our translation of incomplete experiences
into new perception resulting from what he or she could retain from the original experience. Those

Due our limitations as recipients, which cause truth to vary among us, discovering truth becomes
impossible because of its constant changes.
When we encounter experiences through person to person, alterations occur at times on purpose by the
conveyor on the experience so the translation by the recipient can result in the closest experience to
the experience retained by the conveyor. These changes highlight the retained ideas in the experience,
allowing it to remain a truth, O Brien explains, when you go to tell about it, there is always that surreal
seemingness, which makes the story untrue, but which in fact represents the hard and exact truth as it
seemed (O Brien 442). As a recipient of an experience one is bound by only the translation of the
experience one can retain, so when the conveyor tells his or her experience/story. The conveyor
emphasizes the experience retained causing the alterations in the experience but this allows the
recipient to translate a truth similar to the conveyor. Those translations are also seen in Krakauer s
writings, where Krakauer show McCandless was prepared by translating McCandless s experiences
through McCandless journal entries, He was green, and he overestimated his resilience, but he was

Ethnic Identity
To solve this identity crisis, I believe all ethnic groups should stick to their roots and embrace their
unique culture to create a mosaic society. Similar to a mosaic that uses many different colored glasses
to create a beautiful piece of art, people should value and appreciate their differences from others.
Instead of being submissive and following American societal norms, cultures should strive to build
cultural, political, social, and economic communities that appreciate and emphasize the richness of
their own individual cultures and realize that trying to educate racist people is not the best use of our
energy. As a result, everyone can come together to create a unified mosaic. Amy Tan s essay titled,
Mother Tongue describes the idea that we all speak different languages unconsciously and that we are
categorized by the way we speak. Tan describes her life with her mother in America and how her
mother s limited English had an influence on her life. For example, Tan s mother once said, Why he

Tan, her mother s way of speaking English is an intimate language used only among her family. I
believe Americans view this type of language as poor because they cannot appreciate the level of
intimacy in it; however, Americans do not realize is that many use this type of intimate language when

Pneumonia And Pulmonary Infection Of The Human Body
Historically pneumonia has been of the most persistent and deadly diseases known to man. As there
are multiple causative factors, the incidence of respiratory infection has always been high. It has only
been relatively recently with the advent of anatomy and modern diagnostic tests has medicine sought
to understand the pathophysiology and the etiology used to diagnose this often deadly condition.
Diagnosing the what has caused the infection is often the first step as this is what determines the
course of treatment. It is also important to clinicians and practitioners of medicine that one must
understand what an infection of the lungs can do to a human body. Lastly, the treatments and

Personal branding has become an important aspect for candidates within job searches (Kaputa, 2006).
While many companies are using the opportunity of search engines and social media as hiring tools
for future employees, personal branding has become a crucial part of the hiring process.
Developing a Personal Brand
One of the most important aspects of developing a personal brand is differentiating between important
terminologies within the branding spectrum. the first step begins by establishing a brand identity and
communicating that through brand positioning to a specific target audience. Brand identity is defined
as how the marketer wants the brand to be perceived, Brand positioning uses that specific brand
identity to differentiate the person from other candidates within their target audience by highlighting
important values and aspects of the brand identity. The brand image is then noted as a reflection of the
person from their audience. This reaction is generally based on visible behavior, nonverbal behavior,
and other observable cues. (Frischmann, 2014) In order to begin the process of establishing a brand
identity, one must acknowledge what it is about themselves that is worthy of branding. suggests that to

I decided to write my case study about the smart watches, because this is a new expanding market and
people do not know much about these devices. The smartwatch is a wearable computing device, that
people wear it on their wrist. From outside it is similar to a wristwatch but from inside it is more like a
smartphone. It provides a lot of features that we can do with a smartphone, we can connect these to
gadget to each other in order to make our life easier. But when did these small devices started to
extend?
People started to imagine what could they do with their wristwatch in the 1940s, we can see intelligent
watches in movies like Drick Tracy or Star Trek in the 1940, but then it was just a fantasy. The first
big step on the way to the smartwatches was the introduction of the so called Pulsar watch in 1972. It
has lasted for 20 years to develop this digital watch and the American Hamilton Watch Company has
debuted with it. The quartz watches mean an enormous threat to the traditional watch industry. These
watches were much cheaper and more precise than mechanical ones. From that time watches started to
be more complex and electric. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Casio and Seiko has also joined to Intel and began to produce wristwatches with built in databases,
dictionaries, blood pressure sensors, touch screens and even gesture control. These small gadgets were
very expensive so not many people could afford them, on the other hand people the demand for these
high tech watches was not so big. That is why the market of quartz watches did not start to fall. Swiss
watchmakers were reluctant to these changes but they recognized if they wanted to keep step with the
world, they had to fulfill the needs of the consumers, and they wanted quartz watches, they created the
Swatch brand. Now it belongs to the World s most successful watch

Unjust Enrichment
[Caption] Now comes Defendant, Wells Fargo Bank, N.A. ( Wells Fargo ), and moves this Court for
judgment on the pleadings, pursuant to Civil Rule 12(C). In light of this Court s January 22, 2009
Decision and Entry Granting Defendant Wells Fargo N.A. s Partial Motion to Dismiss, the only
remaining claim asserted against Wells Fargo by Plaintiff, Apex Restoration, LLC ( Apex ), is its
second claim, alleging unjust enrichment. However, construing all material allegations in the
Complaint as true, Wells Fargo is entitled to judgment against Apex as a matter of law because Apex
did not confer the benefit by which Apex claims Wells Fargo was unjustly enriched. The grounds for
this motion are more fully set forth in the attached Memorandum. ... Show more content on

Ethridge (Oct. 23, 2000), Warren App. No. CA2000 02 017, unreported (citing Hambleton v. R.G.
Barry Corp. (1984), 12 Ohio St. 3d 179, 183 465 N.E.2d 1298.). In its Complaint, Apex states,
Defendants, in failing to return the $29,907.48 payment issued by the Nationwide Insurance
Companies, have been unjustly enriched in the sum of $29,907.48. Complaint, ¶23. Therefore, Apex s
theory of unjust enrichment is that Wells Fargo was unjustly enriched by the retention of the
$29,907.48 paid by Nationwide. However, because Nationwide not Apex submitted the payment to
Wells Fargo, Apex s unjust enrichment claim fails as a matter of law. In deciding a case analogous to
the case at bar, the Twelfth District Court of Appeals has explained unjust enrichment as follows:
Unjust enrichment of a person occurs when he has and retains money or benefits which in justice and
equity belongs to another. Recovery under the doctrine of unjust enrichment requires a trial court to
impose a quasi contractual relationship upon the parties. Quasi contracts are not true contracts, but are
merely a legal fiction, an equitable legal vehicle for obtaining

The Establishment Of New World Slavery
The establishment of this new world slavery began with an important agricultural discovery in the
British colony of Jamestown. It was here that John Rolfe discovered that the Caribbean tobacco seed
yielded a unique tasting smoke which lead to the first cash crop of the new world and their first
opportunity to strike it rich. This discovery however did not come without its share of problems, the
main one being the lack of workers to clear the land and tend the fields. This shortage of workers lead
to a new form of employment which came to be known as indentured servitude. This option however
was only available to the wealthy as these agreement were very costly, they required a paid passage
for the servant, food, shelter and some form of payment at the end of the contract. This nonetheless
did not deter the plantation owners, as they quickly realized tobacco was a viable path to acquire
wealth, and they weren t the only ones who recognized tobaccos potential. In 1618 the Virginia house
of Burgesses created the headright system: which awarded fifty acres of land to anyone of the colonist
who paid his or another s passage fees to the new world. It was in the interest of England to aid these
planters because an increase in production and export values meant additional wealth to England s
economy in the form of tax revenue. England quickly became the leading commercial seller and trader
of inexpensive goods, enjoying full control of this new stimulant economy predicated on

Post-Racial Volunteering
Volunteering in a Post Racial Society
I chose to volunteer with Alliance San Diego because it seemed like a group that cared about justice
for everyone. And they did not appear to be a sit by and wait around group, they were a group of angry
activist fighting for justice even before the election. Safe to say when the election was between Hillary
and Donald, shit hit the fan. Our country was in complete disarray, stuck between a candidate they did
not like, and a candidate hell bent on killing us all. The obvious option was the spawn of Satan,
clearly. In our current situation activism is necessary. A lot of Alliance s work has to do with people of
color. Before the election it was encouraging people to vote, educating them on their option, ... Show

The graph on page 184 in Perspectives of Intraracial Coalition and Conflict (Smith) the main concern
for black immigrants was health care and immigrant rights and their foreign policy. For African
Americans justice and education were their highest concerns. Neither of the groups found any
importance in environmental policy, which is connected to their concerns and their well being. I think
this all falls under the lack of education in these communities. Not just learning about climate change,
but also how it affects them at home, and how the third world countries are affected. In the end,
despite what African Americans and Black immigrants disagree on, the aspects of our society

Cooperative Learning in Mathematics Essay
Cooperative Learning in Mathematics
There have recently been many new trends towards the use of cooperative learning in many
classrooms, particularly in mathematics classrooms. Cooperative learning involves students working
together to accomplish shared goals. In this type of situation, students must feel they can only reach
their learning goals if the other students in their group also reach their own learning goals. Students
have to understand their achievements are interrelated. Cooperative learning helps students to fully
understand the mathematical concepts and assists them in developing social skills that will take them
through life.
There are different methods of teaching, in addition to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many teachers believe that just having students work together constitutes as cooperative learning. Yet,
there are many other characteristics that make up cooperative learning. According to Cooperative
Learning in Mathematics , by Roza Leiken and Orit Zaslavski, there are four conditions that make up
cooperative learning:
Students learn in small groups with two to six members in a group.
The learning tasks in which students are engaged require that the students mutually and positively
depend on one another and on the group s work as a whole.
The learning environment offers all members of the group an equal opportunity to interact with one
another regarding the learning tasks and encourages them to communicate their ideas in various ways,
for example, verbally.
Each member of the group has a responsibility to contribute to the group work and is accountable for
the learning process of the group (240 241).
One method of ensuring all students are working is called Random Reporting. In Random Reporting,
the teacher randomly picks a group member to present the group s finding to the class. In this
situation, each group member must understand their group work in case they are called on to present.
This also enables every student to communicate their ideas and be accountable for the work.

Is Bilbo A Hero
Have you ever gone somewhere and came back as whole new person? You arrive as if your old self
never existed. In the novel, The Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins( a hobbit who appreciates life without much
extravagance) goes on a breathtaking adventure with thirteen dwarves and a wizard. In his time with
these people, Bilbo realized that he craved adventure. Bilbo went from a hobbit to a hero when he
bravely escapes Gollum and the goblins, when he single handedly slayed a giant spider, and when
Bilbo released the dwarves from the wood elves prison by stealing the key. Bilbo may be small, but he
is a hero capable of amazing things. In chapter five of The Hobbit, Bilbo is faced with a dreadful
surprise: Gollum! When Gollum begins to become angry at Bilbo, Bilbo ran back into the darkness of
the tunnels and escaped Gollum. Even after Bilbo bravely jumps over Gollum to flee the tunnels, he
still has to get past the Goblins. A few lost buttons later, Bilbo is free. This is the first sign of Bilbo s
newfound adventurous spirit. Bilbo, like any other hobbit would, could have cried and begged for
mercy. Bilbo did not do this, he knew that he needed to get away, and he ... Show more content on

Although this may seem like something your typical hobbit would stray away from, Bilbo is not your
typical hobbit. In this moment, Bilbo truly becomes a hero. Before Bilbo was needed to save the
dwarves, he was all by himself facing off against a spider. Once he had killed the spider with no help
from any dwarf or wizard he became very confident. The book says, Somehow the killing of the giant
spider, all alone by himself in the dark without the help of the wizard or the dwarves or of anyone else,
made a great difference to Mr. Baggins. Bilbo knew that he was capable of being a hero, which aided
him in becoming a one. After this, with the help of his magic ring, Bilbo was able to rescue the
dwarves from the other evil

Miner s Ethnography Of The Nacirema
The ethnography of the Nacirema is complex. Miner gives plenty of examples of the culture to allow
the reader to understand that the Nacirema society is actually referring to the American people. Miner
wrote, The holy mouth man opens the clients mouth, and using the above mentioned tools, enlarges
any holes with decay have created in the teeth. Magical materials are put into these holes. (Miner.
2017) As I read about this ritual I found similarities that could be compared to Americans getting their
cavities filled. He also includes the rituals of where men, ...scrape and lacerate their face with a sharp
instrument. (Miner. 2017) Which would be equivalent to men shaving their face and getting razor cuts.
It is also explained that the Nacirema

Cause Of Water Erosion In The United States
Introduction: Erosion is destruction on the rangeland from wind, water, cattle, and other natural
agents. The process where the Earth gets worn down and removes material from the top of the soil.
Erosion has been dated back to Plato and Aristotle (Montgomery et al 2007). There are many types of
erosion, water erosion, sheet erosion, gravitational erosion, and wind erosion (Zonghu et al 1991).
Water erosion is mainly in fields, where rilling would take place (Evan and Morgan 1974). Water
erosion usually happens due to the lack of cover on the rangelands, and heavy rainfall will destroy
plants, and even move the soil. Wind erosion is the most common type of erosion. One of the greatest
problems in the United State is the wind shifting the soil surface (Pierson et al 1961). Livestock such
as cattle (Bos taurus) also pose a threat to the landscape. Hart (1949) did a study on dairy farms, and
found excessive gully erosion. Land with erosion losses the ability to hold water for the soil (Gifford
and Whitehead 1982; Boardman and Mortlock 1993) while also losing key nutrients such as ... Show

Erosion can hardly be managed, and the best way to help erosion is to not let it happen to begin with.
In developing countries, more and more erosion has been discovered due to the lack of knowledge and
care for the landscapes (Lal et al 2001). Keeping vegetation on the soil surface as a cover is the major
key to keeping erosion away from the landscapes (Herrick and Duniway 2014). Nebraska deals with
mainly wind and gully erosion, but in places with a beach, managers and public are starting to see
beach erosion, which will actually result in property losses (Fischer et al 1990; Sorenson Dronen
Knudsen Jensen 2016). No matter what type of erosion, because of the increase in population of
humans, erosion needs to be considered and managed for so that our landscapes will have a fighting

  • 2. International Response To The Rwandan Genocide In The 20th... Rwandan Genocide Throughout the 20th century, numerous acts of genocides have attempted to bring the complete elimination and devastation of large groups of people originating from various particular ethnicities. With these genocides occurring in many regions of the world, the perpetrators often organizing such crimes, have historically been larger and more powerful than the victims themselves. Often being the government and its military forces. However, the lack of international response associated with these genocides, further contributed to the devastating outcomes. On April 6,1994, the fastest killing spree of the century took place in Rwanda against the Tutsi minority population. With many warning signs having already been proclaimed prior to the start of the Rwandan genocide, I believe that with international interference, this bloodshed could have ultimately been prevented. Rwanda is a country located in Central Eastern Africa, with an extensive history of colonization, after Belgium attained control in 1924. Belgium s rule however also marked the beginning of a lengthy ethnic rivalry between the Hutu and the Tutsi people. Belgium favored the Tutsi the minority at 14 percent of the population over the Hutu, the majority at 85 percent, simply because the Tutsis were more resembling of the Europeans. Colonial policy helped to intensify bipolar differentiation between Tutsi and Hutu, by inscribing ethnic identification on identity cards, by relegating the vast majority of Hutu to particularly onerous forms of forced cultivation and corvee, and by actively favoring Tutsi in access to administrative posts, education, and jobs in the modern sector, (Newbury, 12). Belgium s control fueled the Hutu s resentment towards the Tutsis because the Tutsis received superior treatment for decades. Thus, when Rwanda finally acquired independence in 1962, the Hutus fought for control over the government, highlighting the first warning sign of the genocide to come. Many Tutsis were killed afterwards, while many others fled to neighboring countries to escape the violence. The second warning sign appeared, in the spring of 1992, [when] the Belgian ambassador in Kigali, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Recycling Nuclear Waste Essay One major unresolved issue arises as the result of using nuclear power: what happens to waste generated in this process. As of right now, the waste is stored on site or in deep geological repositories. However, with what was to be the country s end all storage site (the Yucca Mountain repository) no longer an option due to recent legislation, long term storage seems unfeasible. In addition, as more nations move towards reprocessing, there are experts and lawmakers in this country who have been looking into reprocessing the country s nuclear waste as well. While many experts say that reprocessing is the best solution for freeing the country of the nuclear waste issue, there are others who say that reprocessing is simply too dangerous and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After the fueling process, nuclear rods are made of 95 percent non fissionable uranium found in everything from granite tabletops to the coal burned for electricity in coal plants. The rest of the spent rod consists of two fifths of useable nuclear fuel (one fifth being uranium and the other being plutonium) and the three fifths that remain are valuable in both industrial and medical processes (Tucker, 2009). With the knowledge that nuclear waste is not actually waste many are lead to the conclusion that reprocessing is a good, if not great idea, however there are an equal number of opponents that say that regardless of the possible benefits that come from reprocessing it simply is not the way to go. Before discussing the arguments for and against nuclear waste reprocessing, there needs to be an understanding of what reprocessing actually is. Reprocessing is a very delicate and complex process. Katherine Ling briefly describes the process in her article Is the solution to the U.S. nuclear waste problem in France? She describes the process as a ballet of industrial strength robots. She goes on to explain that spent fuel rods are stored for a few years in demineralized water to cool. Once cool, machines will lift them out, chop them up, and drop them into vats of acid. The dissolving of the rods allows for the harvesting of any fissionable uranium and plutonium (Ling, 2009). With the knowledge of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Gender, Masculinity, And The Hegemonic View Of Masculinity Intro Masc for masc (masculine looking for masculine) and straight acting (not being seen as a stereotype and being able to be excepted by heterosexual men) are terms used by Gay men to classify the type of man they are looking for in a partner; actively rejecting and devaluing femininity and upholding the hegemonic view of masculinity. Therefor I am researching the how do gay and straight Latinos construct their masculinity? Straight men deem anything feminine as less than, thus gay men are ousted. This ousting of gay men is a byproduct of heterosexism in which a men only date women and vice versa, thus gay men are seen as effeminate for the sole reason of dating other men. In an attempt to reclaim their lost masculinity gay men are rejecting effeminate men in an attempt to be seen as one of the good gays . The traits of reclaiming what gay Latinos feel is lost is strongly tied to femiphobia, internalized homophobia, and toxic masculinity. They want to be seen as the good gay which I define as a gay man that wants to be removed from the stereotype and behaves and present as straight I want to investigate how gay Latinos specifically construct their masculinity and if they are contracting it based on their straight counterparts. • 11. Importance Of Shakespeare In Schools Shakespeare in Schools Shakespeare s writing has been taught to most everyone in the modern world. He was a very influential writer who changed our style of writings today in many ways. His tragedies and poems have been read and performed for nearly five hundred years. Shakespeare created an abundance of common words we use everyday such as blanket, and dawn. Who would ve known? He also created his own type of writing called Shakespearean sonnets. At most schools, you read several works of his before you graduate, like Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth. High Schools in America should invariably include William Shakespeare in their curriculum at least once a year. For many reasons Shakespeare is beneficial to teach to everyone at some point in their life. Most teens do not particularly like reading Shakespeare, but if they choose to comprehend it, they might like it. In the article Why Read Shakespeare it says, The better you understand literature, the better you understand life . Michael Mack is making a general statement that when you understand literature, you will like it more and you will comprehend life better as well. With this said, you can apply it to reading Shakespeare. Even if it takes a couple of times reading it to understand, you will enjoy and learn from his works if you just give it time. • 12. Albert Bandura s Observational Learning Theory Observational Learning Theory By studying Frank Sinatra through the lenses of the Observational Learning Theory much can be understood. Albert Bandura s Theory states that individuals learn by observing. His experiment included a Bobo doll an adult actor and a child observer. Bandura picked an object, a Bobo doll, that the children had never been exposed to and their fore did not know how to react to it. He then had the children observe the adults hitting and kicking the doll. Then when the children were placed alone in a room with the doll they began to emulate what they watched the adults do. Consequently, showing that the children learned how to interact solely by observing others interactions. This theory explains numerous behaviors and encounters that Frank Sinatra had. He often resembled the actions of his mother and father. Frank s Mother Natalia or Dolly was resourceful, she utilized her understanding of English and Italian language to make herself an invaluable translator for immigrants during court proceedings (Kaplan, 2016, Sachs, 1995, Sinatra, 1985). This involvement with the courts allowed her to gain the respect of many local politicians and eventually lead to her becoming a Democratic leader in her community. Dolly was also entrepreneurial, she was the first immigrant woman to hold any position in her local democratic office. Adding some useful accessories is a super way to accomplish that objective. Here are four handy items you can add to your golf cart to increase its usefulness. Covers and Enclosures No matter how often you use your golf cart, you want to keep it good condition. An excellent way to ensure your cart stays looking like new is to add either a functional enclosure, or a custom cover. The enclosure does more than just preserve your cart s condition. Enclosures allow you to use your cart in all weather conditions, plus they protect the inside of your golf cart. Covers will completely protect your golf cart when you re not using it. Just because you add an enclosure, that doesn t mean a cover is also not a good accessory to have. A golf cart cover is a protective blanket over your entire cart. Little Miss Sunshine Stereotypes Little Miss Sunshine When we think about beauty pageants, we think about beautifully tanned girls with beautiful glittery makeup, a perfect physique and teeth to match, extravagant glitzy dresses, over the top hair, and not to add someone with an extraordinary talent. However, the iconic film Little Miss Sunshine completely shatters that stereotypical view that we have of the pageant as well as changes our view on how families function. Little Miss Sunshine is a film about an 8 year old girl named Olive Hoover, who is obsessed with being in pageants and is looking to become the next miss America, Olive gets the opportunity to participate in a national competition after the girl who was supposed to compete in her place has to drop out of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One moral is that you should never give up on yourself and never give up no matter how turbulent things may get. This moral was exercised in many scenes throughout the entire film such as in the beginning of the film we see Richard giving a motivational speech to a sparse group of people, the message being to never give up. When he comes home for dinner he gives everyone at family dinner a speech on how it is a dreadful thing to be a loser. Before they set off to Redondo Beach he also asks Olive if she thinks she will be able to win the competition because if she doesn t have any faith in herself they may as well not even waste time traveling to the pageant. The film conveys this message in a comical way (the breaks not working on the car, Frank running into his ex while buying porn, and the family bickering) as well as in an emotional way such as when Grandpa Edwin passes away and Dwayne finding out that he is color blind. The mixing of these two elements (comedy and evoking sadness) in my opinion make the genre of this film a dark comedy or it could just be classified as a comedy drama. Going off of that, the film shows that being a winner doesn t just mean being the best at something. Olive was poised to be the underdog for the entire film. We, the viewers as well as Olive s family knew that Olive wasn t comparable to her competition, however, Olive did not let that stop her and she continued her routine ... • 17. Commentary On Founding Brothers By Joseph Ellis The book Founding Brothers by Joseph Ellis is a nonfictional historical novel focusing on the lives, achievements and the interesting situations of the founding fathers that came up and occurred, while also the description of how America came to be American (revolution of America). Founding members of the revolutionary generation secured their legacies through battle and later through legislation, but many were unaware of what happened behind the scenes of the hardships and dedication it took to do the things that needed to be done. The book reminds me that Americans today take our freedom for granted, but our founding fathers had to fight to separate us from the British and their tyrant s ways. Revolutionaries like Thomas Jefferson and Thomas Paine suggested that colonial independence from England was not only plausible but was meant to be. There were many things that I learned in this meeting because it was the first meeting that I have been to for the city. Everything was planned and very organized in the meeting and they go down a schedule or list of what they will do first. The Mayor of the city of Bakersfield is the one to begin the meeting, but he was absent the day that I went so Vice Mayor Harold Hanson took his spot. He mentioned how the Mayor had not missed a meeting in such a long time that he can not even remember the last time he got to take his place. Hearing what the Vice Mayor said about the Mayor showed the residents of Bakersfield and I how important and how serious the Mayor takes his job. It showed that the Mayor really cares for the people of Bakersfield even though many disagree with me. • 19. Interest Point Detectors Interest Point Detectors Introduction: How it started Our original idea was to implement the beginning stages of a paper on measuring the driver fatigue detection from a sequence of images []. Majority of accidents reported are due to driver fatigue. One of the important parameter to be detected to measure the driver s alertness is to track his/her eyes in the given image sequence. Eye detection is an active research area in computer vision. Applications can range from face detection to biometrics. Canthus (Eye corners) is a very stable feature that can be constantly detected from a facial image irrespective of the eye status or gaze direction. Canthus is initially defined and treated as a corner (interest point). Interest point detectors like Harris and SUSAN are being studied and discussed in this report. These corner detectors are evaluated to find which one suits best for this application. Interest Points An interest point is a relatively important kind of localized two dimensional image structure with a mathematical description. It can be defined as the intersection of two edges or as a point with two dominant and different edge directions. Corners , T , Y and X junctions have the same definition and fall under this category. Although the interest points constitute a very small portion in the image, the information on shape is concentrated at these points. Image corner detection is an important task in various computer vision and image understanding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. The Western Media Democratic Promotion Against The East The 2010 airing of the Nobel Peace Prize awards ceremony was met with controversy from numerous ends of the world, as its recipient was the jailed Chinese activist Liu Xiaobo. It has been argued by the Chinese government and outlets that this event is a product of the media and by doing so critiques the broadcast as a representation of western imperialism and as such highlights the limits of the liberal political press model. The communist party ran newspaper Global Times attacked the broadcast as a political tool of Western interests , and whether agreeing or not with this accusation, it is easy to understand why such a conclusion can be made. This case can be analysed in some ways as a case of the western media democratic promotion against the east. The idea of democratic supremacy can be argued thoroughly when deliberated through a political ideological perspective. The Nobel committee noted that the Chinese government had labelled Liu Xaiobo as a criminal and saw his prize as provocative to their judgment and rule. Though the program places itself in direct opposition to this, with Thorbjørn Jagland stating in his speech that it is one of the most important decision in the peace prizes history . He labels the Chinese punishment of Liu as severe and calls Liu the central spokesman for human rights and an international symbol for the struggle against China. An interesting question that the instructor can ask at this point is: what business is Robin Hood s organization in? Some students might say philanthropy, some might say robbery. The answers to this question will help students understand the importance of vision and mission: the leader must have a clear idea of the purpose of the business, and who it competes with, in order to craft strategy. If the business is robbery, there are different competitors, like highwaymen. 2. What strategic problems does Robin Hood have? Robin Hood s organization is in a profit squeeze: revenue is down and costs are rising. In addition, there are cracks in the culture of the organization. Ethical issues are major concern in the healthcare field because healthcare providers observe ethical issues every day and have to make ethical decisions. A great example in the medical field is advance directives these documents are written to address individual s medical preferences. The patient fails to recognise the faces of close acquaintances and calls them as an imposter . They claim that the person looks like or is identical to someone they know, while continuing to believe that they are two different individuals. The delusional belief is strongest when the putative imposter is present [2]. Capgras delusion is classified as a delusional misidentification syndrome, a class of beliefs where the patients have delusional beliefs that involves misidentification of people, places or objects. The delusion is mostly common in patients diagnosed with neurodegenerative diseases; such as Alzheimer s disease (2% 30%) [8], ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Adapted from Ellis et al. (1997), Proc. R. Soc. B. This theory fails to answer two major questions. First, why is the phenomenon specific to close relatives? One possibility, as suggested by Ramachandran el al., is that only with parents or a spouse does one seek emotional arousal thus its absence leads to a confabulatory delusion that one s parent is an imposter. With an emotionally neutral person on the other hand, one does not expect such arousal, and therefore there is no incentive for generating a delusion. The second major question is why the lack of emotional arousal can have such drastic delusions? Why does the patient not accept the fact that the loved one is not an imposter but can no longer feel the warmth? There can be some extra lesions, perhaps in the right frontal cortex, which is responsible for generating such an extreme delusion. The left hemisphere seeks to preserve consistency by explaining for any discrepancies, whereas there may be a global consistency checking mechanism in the right hemisphere which serves to counter balance this tendency (Ramachandran 1995). Damage to such a mechanism due to a right hemisphere stroke may lead to Capgras Delusion, where one needs a conjugation of two lesions: one which affects the global consistency checking mechanism in the right hemisphere and the other affecting the consistency. ... It has become a popular genre since it has been evolving throughout the years it has been around, but one of its major climax points was when the subgenre of zombies came into the mix. The zombie genre became very popular in the year 1968 when it was first introduced in George Romero s film Night of the Living Dead. Night of the Living Dead is one of the most prominent zombie films till this date especially since it has introduced a new monster into the movie industry that nobody would have expected. Romero s film intertwines with what Noel Carroll is telling us in his article Why Horror? that it is all about the monsters that appear in the horror film. Noel Carroll s idea of the monster being the main attraction in all horror films is somewhat true and it showed it when the audience went to watch the film by George Romero since he introduced the zombies and it caught the audience curiosity. As soon as he caught the audiences curiosity with the zombies they would just be focusing on the monster especially trying to figure out how they came to be and how does one end up destroying them. Andrew Tudor in his article titled the same as Carroll s has a different approach of explaining horror films, but in some aspect, it relates to Carroll s claim about the monster that appears in the films. • 27. Themes In Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken THE ROAD NOT TAKEN Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken, is a poem, or even a tale many readers will relate to. It is a narrative of the choices in life and the crossroads in which the individual is faced with. In the lines, there is quite clarity in the decisions and feelings of Frost throughout. His use of imagery to paint beautiful landscapes and countless sub thoughts is extraordinary, yet he does it with such few words. Although one could see this poem for how it reads and view the story of a solemn traveler pacing down a road, when diving deep into its actual text one sees that Frost is trying to paint a much deeper picture. This metaphor of a poem is written a way that anybody who reads it can understand and relate. From each of the simple lines to the groupings of intricately placed words, this work of art brings out the meaning and passion in a well lived life. In the first stanza the setting is laid out before us. A fork in the road in the middle of a yellow wood. These two paths are unknown to the solemn traveler. The first line in the poem states yellow wood, which gives the feeling that it would be more of an autumn season. The autumn season is the beginning of dormancy in the forest life. It also signals the nearing end of another joyous year. In life we have cycles just like the seasons cycle. Periods of new growth such as spring or a new relationship perhaps. Summer, where we are enjoying the things we have to the fullest. There is fall, when something nears to an end such as a vacation, the ending of the year or maybe childhood when one must think about getting out in the world. Then, there is winter: the darker portion of the cycle of life. The point in which we are waiting for the new to begin or praying for the hurt to subside. This cycle of life, and particularly the season of autumn, seems to pair up with the fork in the road or the point where the traveler is ending this stretch of road and must embark upon a new path. Just as it is in life when one period begins to draw to an end we must begin to think of the next set of choices or paths to take. Most options in life do not allow for someone to have both. Just as the traveler we, too, must choose a path for ourselves. In the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Virginia, we do not have a state law that specifically requires employers to offer pregnancy leave. Being disabled by pregnancy means that you can no longer do certain activities so that the mother can deliver safely and care for the newborn. However, our perception of the obtained truth from those experiences is not always credible because as a recipient we are restricted to the amount of experience we can retain. These changes highlight the retained ideas in the experience, allowing it to remain a truth, O Brien explains, when you go to tell about it, there is always that surreal seemingness, which makes the story untrue, but which in fact represents the hard and exact truth as it seemed (O Brien 442). Tan describes her life with her mother in America and how her mother s limited English had an influence on her life. For example, Tan s mother once said, Why he don t send me check, already two weeks late. So, mad he lie to me, losing me money (Tan, 365). For Tan, her mother s way of speaking English is an intimate language used only among her family. I believe Americans view this type of language as poor because they cannot appreciate the level of intimacy in it; however, Americans do not realize is that many use this type of intimate language when communicating with babies in gurgles, cooing, and indistinguishable noises. The smartwatch is a wearable computing device, that people wear it on their wrist. From outside it is similar to a wristwatch but from inside it is more like a smartphone. It provides a lot of features that we can do with a smartphone, we can connect these to gadget to each other in order to make our life easier. But when did these small devices started to extend? People started to imagine what could they do with their wristwatch in the 1940s, we can see intelligent watches in movies like Drick Tracy or Star Trek in the 1940, but then it was just a fantasy. The first big step on the way to the smartwatches was the introduction of the so called Pulsar watch in 1972. It has lasted for 20 years to develop this digital watch and the American Hamilton Watch Company has debuted with it. The quartz watches mean an enormous threat to the traditional watch industry. • 45. The Establishment Of New World Slavery The establishment of this new world slavery began with an important agricultural discovery in the British colony of Jamestown. It was here that John Rolfe discovered that the Caribbean tobacco seed yielded a unique tasting smoke which lead to the first cash crop of the new world and their first opportunity to strike it rich. This discovery however did not come without its share of problems, the main one being the lack of workers to clear the land and tend the fields. This shortage of workers lead to a new form of employment which came to be known as indentured servitude. This option however was only available to the wealthy as these agreement were very costly, they required a paid passage for the servant, food, shelter and some form of payment at the end of the contract. This nonetheless did not deter the plantation owners, as they quickly realized tobacco was a viable path to acquire wealth, and they weren t the only ones who recognized tobaccos potential. In 1618 the Virginia house of Burgesses created the headright system: which awarded fifty acres of land to anyone of the colonist who paid his or another s passage fees to the new world. It was in the interest of England to aid these planters because an increase in production and export values meant additional wealth to England s economy in the form of tax revenue. Yet, there are many other characteristics that make up cooperative learning. According to Cooperative Learning in Mathematics , by Roza Leiken and Orit Zaslavski, there are four conditions that make up cooperative learning: Students learn in small groups with two to six members in a group. The learning tasks in which students are engaged require that the students mutually and positively depend on one another and on the group s work as a whole. The learning environment offers all members of the group an equal opportunity to interact with one another regarding the learning tasks and encourages them to communicate their ideas in various ways, for example, verbally. Each member of the group has a responsibility to contribute to the group work and is accountable for the learning process of the group (240 241). One method of ensuring all students are working is called Random Reporting. In Random Reporting, the teacher randomly picks a group member to present the group s finding to the class. In this situation, each group member must understand their group work in case they are called on to present. This also enables every student to communicate their ideas and be accountable for the work. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 50. Cause Of Water Erosion In The United States Introduction: Erosion is destruction on the rangeland from wind, water, cattle, and other natural agents. The process where the Earth gets worn down and removes material from the top of the soil. Erosion has been dated back to Plato and Aristotle (Montgomery et al 2007). There are many types of erosion, water erosion, sheet erosion, gravitational erosion, and wind erosion (Zonghu et al 1991). Water erosion is mainly in fields, where rilling would take place (Evan and Morgan 1974). Water erosion usually happens due to the lack of cover on the rangelands, and heavy rainfall will destroy plants, and even move the soil. Wind erosion is the most common type of erosion. One of the greatest problems in the United State is the wind shifting the soil surface (Pierson et al 1961). Livestock such as cattle (Bos taurus) also pose a threat to the landscape. Hart (1949) did a study on dairy farms, and found excessive gully erosion. Land with erosion losses the ability to hold water for the soil (Gifford and Whitehead 1982; Boardman and Mortlock 1993) while also losing key nutrients such as ...
