My time in Banff brought about some amazing learning moments for me; some more direct than
others.
I will be sharing a couple of the ripple effect lessons I learned upon returning home. What I had
learned made me question further some of the concepts I had pondered before...one of them being our
need to be productive.
A large part of the reason why I was having trouble settling in and simply enjoying my time in Banff
was because I had an underlying need to be productive. Even though at a conscious level I no longer
buy into and accept that our time needs to be filled with productive pursuits (not to be confused with
purpose), at a subconscious level that belief was buried quite deep, and so my two minds were
struggling with each other.
We have been raised in a culture that highly values productivity, and that in itself wouldn t be such a
bad thing if we hadn t taken it to extremes. We have come to value ourselves based on how productive
we are, which has led us to be driven, to push ourselves, and to preserve under all conditions...and if

Poetry Is No I Don t Mean Putting A Couple Words Together...
What is poetry? No I don t mean putting a couple words together that rhyme. Rhyme scheme is only a
component of what poetry is. I got this question asked before beginning the unit of poetry. I said When
I think about poetry I think of the flow of a river out into the ocean. The sounds and sight of this
reminds me of poetry. The sounds that the river makes are relaxing and calm as they empty into a vast
body of water. It s like the mind of a poet emptying onto a piece of paper or a keyboard. The sight of
the river flowing also reminds me of poetry. Some poems seem so calm as they empty into the ocean,
so serene. That is what poetry is to me. The flow of thoughts that create a piece of art that is called a
poem. Just as the flow of a calm river that creates another piece of art, called an ocean.
After having my own chance to write my own poem, and also having to recite another poet s poem,
my perspective changed a bit on the whole concept of poetry. Now if someone were to ask me what
poetry is and what it meant I would say poetry is a way to express ones self. Writing a poem is another
way of showing whom you are and how you feel to people who don t know you, or people who don t
know you well enough. It s also a way to relax and release some stress. Just like athletes go to the gym
when they need to relieve some stress, writers grab their notebook and a pencil. Poetry is like picking
out what clothes you want to wear in the morning. You can either decide to be yourself

Picture a room with a large table in the center. There is a door, but it is locked. Filling up all the twelve
seats around the table, there are twelve men: jurors debating the murder of a man living near the el

Instead of getting angry at the Sixth Juror immediately and saying hurtful things back, he continued
with his argument politely. In summary, Juror Eight reveals many traits and characteristics of himself
and these characteristics and his actions impact the story greatly. When the Eighth Juror tried to open
the discussion and give the boy a fair trial, he created the whole story. The entire play would not have
even occurred if not for the Eighth Juror. At the start, all of the jurors wanted to go home. Several even
talk about how they want to get this over with (Rose 7). So, all jurors were willing to vote as quickly
as possible even if it meant that the defendant may not get the fairest hearing. But, the eighth was not
willing to allow this because he wanted a fair trial. So, without the Eighth Juror, would there even be a
story to tell? Most would think not. Juror Eight says many things that make the rest of the jury think a
lot about. For instance, he states, It s not easy to identify a voice (Rose 32). By bringing up this valid
reasoning, he added to the story and gave the boy a fair chance by questioning whether the story of
everybody involved in the case is definitely true. Furthermore, if the Eighth Juror had not promoted
the discussion of this boy s case, everyone would have voted guilty beyond reasonable doubt. But,

In Part C copper seemed to be the least reactive with the nitrate solutions of all of the metals that were
tested. On the other hand, magnesium seemed to be very reactive, as it did have a reaction with each
