Hiroshima, By Robert Lewis, Co Pilot Of Enola Gay
Just how many Japs did we kill? I honestly have the feeling or groping for words to explain this or I
might say my God, what have we done? written by Captain Robert Lewis, co pilot of Enola Gay over
Hiroshima, Japan, presently after 8:15 a.m. on August 6, 1945. The too large gust of wind, and the
looming mushroom cloud rising over the blackened city were all vaguely mentioned in his captain s
log. A small sketch of the first ever nuclear warfare attack can be found hastily scribbled on the back
of Lewis s log that was later stowed away, the sight destined to plague his mind in the years to follow.
Captain Lewis account of Hiroshima is only one of thousands who never spoke about whether it was
right or wrong. Lewis was not thinking about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many United States governmental personnel were aware that victory was assured at this point.
According to General Henry Hap Arnold, Army Air Forces commander, as stated in his 1949 Global
Mission, It always appeared to us that atomic bomb or no atomic bomb the Japanese were already on
the verge of collapse (Weber.) Though Japan was the first to attack the United States that did not mean
the war would follow in their favor. When the ending months of World War II came around it had
become clear which country had the greater advantage, and whom ultimately stood on top. The
resources available, damage taken, and military readiness deciding that the United States had already
won. The truth being that Japan had already lost months before Hiroshima was attacked. The Japanese
military had no way to make a comeback, and using a nuclear weapon when this was so obviously
clear is undeniably unwarranted. Due to Japan s dwindling position in the war, turning the tides stood
nearly impossible; nonetheless they remained loyal to their Emperor in never giving up. Japanese
soldiers believe that death came before betraying their country. However, several powerful Japanese
military personnel had realized that to preserve Japan itself, surrendering was a small price to pay over
annilliation. After the Hiroshima attack on August 19, 1945, an article was published on the front page

Hamlet s Use Of Ophelia As A Pawn In Hamlet
The play Hamlet is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare. The story is set in the Kingdom of
Denmark, which dramatizes the revenge of Prince Hamlet upon his uncle Claudius. According to the
Ghost of Hamlet s father, Claudius had murdered his own brother and seized the throne, also marrying
his deceased brother s wife. Throughout the play, the story focuses on Hamlet s plan to revenge
Claudius. However, many characters along the way were victimized by others for their own gain. The
Ghost uses Hamlet as a pawn; Hamlet uses Ophelia as a pawn and Claudius uses Laertes as a pawn,
which ultimately caused their own death.
At the beginning of the play, Hamlet is the first to be used as pawn when the Ghost uses him to kill
Claudius. When Hamlet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ophelia describes him as looking and acting like a heartbroken lover since she is convinced that the
reason for his strange behavior is due to her rejection of any communication with him. Even though
Ophelia does not know she is part of Hamlet s plan, she believes that Hamlet s behavior is true. She is
devastated and confused and is convinced that he has lost his mind. When they meet later on, Hamlet
acts even more insane. He even goes to extent of insulting her when he says,
God has given you one face and you make/ yourselves another. You jig, you amble, and you lisp/ and
nickname God s creatures and make your/ wantonness your ignorance. (3.1.144 147).
Here, Hamlet uses cruel means to portray his madness. He even talks against his true thoughts of
Ophelia by telling her I love you not (3.1.119). At this point, Ophelia is unsure how to behave or what
to believe. She has become a key component to Hamlet s plan although it slowly begins to destroy her.
She is unable to control her grief due to the broken promises, cruel insults and sense of abandonment
she feels from Hamlet. In result, she brings herself into a destructive madness. She became such a key
component to Hamlet s plan that his behaviors triggered

Poetry Analysis of Introduction to Poetry
Poetry analysis of Introduction to Poetry
The Poem Introduction to Poetry is by Billy Collins, an English poet, and it is about how teachers
often force students to over analyze poetry and to try decipher every possible meaning portrayed
throughout the poem rather than allowing the students to form their own interpretation of the poem
based on their own experiences.
Throughout the poem, a number of literary devices are used. For example: or press an ear against its
hive . Using this metaphor, Billy Collins is comparing the body of a poem to the hive of a bee. The
hive of a bee appears to be something dangerous and unknown, just like a new poem, never before
seen, with which one is unfamiliar. Using this metaphor, Billy Collins is ... Show more content on

This is an effective metaphor as water skiing brings about a great sense of joy and is fun, just as
reading a poem in Billy Collins opinion should be.
The use of onomatopoeic devices and onomatopoeic words are abundant in this poem. For instance, I
say drop a mouse into a poem is a line whereby the word drop , a very onomatopoeic word, effectively
suggests that the reader of a poem must gently analyze a poem. This is portrayed through the gentle p
sound of the word and this is therefore effective as the reader gets a sense of the gentleness Billy
Collins wishes his readers had when it comes to analyzing poetry.
The fact that enjambment is used throughout the poem such as in the lines, like a colour slide or press
an ear against its hive portrays a lack of structure and therefore emphasizes the initial enjoyment one
feels when reading a poem before the chore of analyzing it begins. This is also emphasized through
the fact that the poem is a free verse poem.
The poem suddenly becomes much darker in the last stanza and a Billy Collins explains how teachers,
students or general readers of poetry torture a poem by being what he believes is cruelly analytical. He
says, all they want to do is tie the poem to a chair with rope and torture a confession out of it . Here,
the poem is being personified yet again and this brings about an almost human connection between the
reader and the poem. This use of personification is effective as it makes the

A business professional wants to use Microsoft® Excel® to organize data for the monthly expense
report. He has never used Microsoft® Excel® and is inquiring about the functions that would support
him with this task.
General Approach
Make sure I understand what the user intends to do and what version of Excel the customer is using.
Challenges to situation
The challenge in this situation is that the user wants to use a program that is new to him. I will have to
explain to the user the basic functions of Excel to see if those functions match what the user wants to
do.
Strategies to overcome challenges
I would speak to the customer very patiently and find out what information does the customer know
about Excel. I would then ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Challenges
The challenges would be to make sure the user understands how to average in excel, all the
information are in the correct cells, and the correct equation is being entered.
Strategies to overcome
I will have to be patient while explaining to the user how to input the information into the cells. I will
have to try to keep from frustrating the user because some steps may have to be repeated.
Further diagnosis
I will need to find out if the user has sample templates or a tutorial for visual aide available.
Step by step 1. Have the user open up the Excel file 2. Walk the user through which information
should be entered 3. Have the user go to TOOLS command on the menu bar and select options 4.
Select the Zero values box 5. Check in the view tab that Zero value is checked 6. In the last row type
=AVERAGE and the row of cells to be averaged or highlight the cells to be averaged and click Enter
Alternate solution 1. I would email a template to the user if available for the user to see 2. I would
refer the user to a tutorial or advise the user to seek help from a representative in an electronic store
like Bestbuy or Circuit City. 3. Apologize for not being able to assist in resolving the issue and for the
customer to have better help experience face to face

Analysis Of The Article The Model Minority Losing...
It is the 21st century and there is still racial prejudice in America. Many may not realize this, but there
is a growing problem between Asian Americans and the American society. A growing issue is that
minorities, especially Asian Americans are being judged based on their race rather than the accolades
and achievements they have accomplished. In the article The model minority is losing patience, the
article discusses about a high school senior by the name of Michael Wang, who was denied six out of
seven Ivy League colleges, even after coming in second place in his class of 1,002 students for
academics, scoring a 36 (perfect) score on the ACT, scoring in the top 150 of a national math
competition, and much more. Many would assume based on all of these accolades and achievements,
any student would be accepted to many elite colleges, including Ivy League schools. The article goes
on to say that racial prejudice is a major problem even within the high school level. Racial prejudice is
a major problem as discussed within the article, and the authors do an effective job in presenting that
there is a major racial prejudice issue among high school students and college administration s. This
article starts out with a simple story of a high school senior by the name of Michael Wang. Mr. Wang s
story is a story of unfairness. A story of inequality. A story of a one man s success, becoming
meaningless with the denial of college administrations. The article shows that Mr. Wang was

Subsequently, a small group of women s rights activists in attendance at the Third National
Conference of Commissions on the Status of Women, held on June 28 30 in 1966 in Washington,
D.C., grew frustrated with the inability to influence the end of sex discrimination with regards to
employment (NOW, 2011). Recognizing the public interest in the social movement which led to the
implementation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, feminist activists seized the opportunity to leverage
the momentum and apply it to their cause for women s rights. Indeed, activist Betty Friedan played a
critical role in the formation of NOW and reportedly remarked that it was the suggestion of the
commissioners and attorney for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) that an
organization be formed to advocate on behalf of women similarly to the way civil rights groups were
advocating on behalf of African Americans (NOW, 2011). With this in mind, Freidan invited a group
of like minded conference participants to her hotel room that evening for further discussion about how
to influence action on behalf of women. Additionally, Freidan is credited with writing the acronym N
O W on a paper napkin and motivating her fellow activists to band together for their cause. The
following day, the original group of twenty women gathered for lunch and recruited eight additional
women who were interested in the idea of creating a formal body to address concerns at the
conference. One of the women in the group, Analoyce Clapp, is credited with creating the first mission
statement for the group at the conference, to take action to bring women into full participation in the
mainstream of American society now, assuming all the privileges and responsibilities thereof in truly
equal partnership with men (NOW, 2011). According to the interest group categorizations by

Cambridge Analytica Facebook Breach
Within recent weeks, we have learned that Facebook has been breached by a company named
Cambridge Analytica. Cambridge Analytica is a London based company that helps business and
political groups change audience behavior . Cambridge Analytica became responsible for the breach in
2015, when one of its psychology professors created the app thisisyourdigitallife. The app consisted of
a personality quiz which asked Facebook users to provide information about themselves. Only
270,000 Facebook users actually signed up and took personality tests, however the app harvested data
from the Facebook friends connected to those users without their consent. Once the data was analyzed,
the data was then organized and packaged so that political spin doctors can create more effective
slogans and campaign messages. Ironically, one of their clients was Donald Trump, which he used the

Some of these people put in hundreds to millions of dollars to prevent such events from occurring.
Therefore, as time progresses and more people become aware of the situation, Facebook s value will
begin to fall along with its number of investors. With saying, the breach serves as a business issue
because it angered users, politicians, and advertisers who use the platform. Some may react by
deactivating their accounts, and that will result in loss in revenue for the company. The breach violates
Facebook s business ethics because one of the most prioritized objectives is to protect the information
shared by users. Facebook reportedly knew about the data harvesting in 2015, and asked companies
holding the data to delete it but had no way of making sure that they actually did so. This not only
reveals how vulnerable Facebook is to a Facebook security breach, but it also shows how much they

An Exploration to the History of Bollywood Dance In 2008, the movie Slum dog Millionaire inspired
a new dance craze, quickly spreading across the globe. Due to the movies, popular hit song, Jai Ho
and the famous choreographed dance shown in a memorable performance during the closing credits of
the film, known as Bollywood dance, has exploded into dance studios, workout facilities, and films
worldwide. For decades, the infusion of song and dance has been a vital element of the Indian and
Hindu film industry. Bollywood dance is not an easy topic to discuss because it does not have exact

The fundamental nature of the ancient text Natya Shastra can be explained as a guide to the traditional
Hindu theatre. It describes Bharata Natyam key elements, such as; mudras, specific hand movements
and positions used to convey the stories, facial expressions, body movements and postures.
Additionally, explained in the Natya Shastra, the dancer must use emotions, known as rasas to convey
her story. There are eight basic rasas; love, humor, pathos, anger, heroism terror, disgust and wonder,
added later was serenity. Families and teachers who taught the devadasis, made a conscience effort to
continue the teachings of this dance for generations through oral tradition. Originally performed for
royalty and the wealthy, eventually devadasis, in some areas, were considered prostitutes and priests
were known as pimps. The devadasis reached an all time low when the British began colonization of
India toward the end of the nineteenth century. They were shocked to see women singing in dancing in
temples, with very little or no clothing. In 1927, temple dancing in India was banned. However, it
continued to survive, in 1934 Rukmini Devi decided to establish a school, Kalashektras, in Madras.
She paved the way for a more respectable dance movement. When the school was established,
Rukmini, changed the name from Sadir to Bharata Natyam, due to its negative history of being
associated with prostitution. Now, exclusively

How Did The Industrial Revolution Affect Children s Life...
Introduction
Until 1833, the lives of children were often extremely long and difficult. They were forced to work
long hours, with very little sleep from the age of 6. These conditions were unlawful and cruel.
Children aged from six years old in the industrial revolution worked hard hours for very little. The
children usually worked up to 19 hours a day, with a one hour break. Not only were these children
subject to long hours, but also, they were in horrible conditions. Large, heavy, and dangerous
equipment was very common for children to be using or working near. Many accidents happened
killing or injuring children on the job. Children were only paid only a fraction of what an adult would
get, and sometimes factory owners would pay them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The younger children, who were not old enough to use the equipment, were sent to help the textile
workers. The people who the children served would beat them, verbally abuse them, and take no
consideration for their safety. Both girls and boys who laboured in factories were given beatings and
other harsh forms of painful punishments. One punishment for being late or not working hard enough
would be to be weighted. A slave master would tie a heavy weight to a child s neck, and have them
walk through the factory aisles so the other children could see them and become intimidated. This
could last sometimes an hour. Boys were sometimes dragged naked from their beds and sent to the
factories only holding their clothes, to be put on there. This was to make sure the boys would not be
late, even by a few minutes. There were people in this time period that strongly advocated the use or
the abolishment of child labour, or at least the improvement of conditions. Factory owners loved child
labour, and they supported their reasoning with ideas that it was good for everything from the
economy to the building of the children s characters. Parents of the children who worked were almost
forced to at least allow it as they needed the income. There were some relevant people that fought for
the regulation, improvement, and abolishment of child labour. The first phase to improving conditions

Inductive Vs. Inductive Reasoning
Although inductive reasoning is as we shall see not logically continuous, it is nevertheless a seemingly
parsimonious avenue for the formation of theories and conceptions about the world around us. The
sun has risen and fallen every day up until this point in time and while this may not logically prove
that it will do the same tomorrow, the popular belief is that this repetition gives us a firm ontological
grounding for expecting it to do so. This does not seem unreasonable, at least in one sense of the
word; indeed, if you happened to meet an individual who claimed to possess an agnostic belief about
whether or not the sun is likely to reappear tomorrow, then you would most likely consider them to be
a very odd person. So inductive inferences are all around us, they are the functional basis of our
understanding of the world. For the sake of this paper, then, it is important to understand what we
mean when we talk about an inductive inference. Presented in its most rudimentary construct, the
inductive inference appears in the logical form: (I) Pa1,..., Pan Pan+1, or (II) Pa1,..., Pan AxPx. Let us
briefly explore these two statements. In statement (I), an+1 denotes a different object or form from
those denoted by a1 ,...., an. During the application of these principles (I) and (II), we are to assume
that we do not know any non P s, and furthermore that the class of a1 ,..., an are the sole objects for
which we know that they are P s. Now,

European Influence On American Animals In 1491
By 1491, Europeans already were growing grains such as rye, wheat, barley. They used wind and
water as power sources, and had a lot of domesticated animals. Horses in Europe were plowing soil,
and pigs were used as a source of protein and leather was made from their skin. Also, they had sheep
and cows, so they could drink milk and make butter. In contrast, on American continent, natives were
only growing corn, and in South America only potato was growing at that time. In America only lamas
were present who could not pull a plow nor give milk. In North America Ice age and hunting put
animals at levels of extinction.
In Europe, hunting animals was just for sport and prestige. Fish were abundant and were eaten by all

The Iadb Will Be Post Colonialism And Liberal...
Sinister Intentions? A Theoretical Review The two theories that will be contrasted against the work of
the IADB will be post colonialism and liberal institutionalism. Post colonialism makes a strong
argument for the ability of the bank to abuse the developing countries of Latin America, as well as
predicting the very real examples of abuse from the bank on indigenous communities in the region.
Liberal institutionalism explains how the IADB promotes the interests of all involved and actually
helps the region facilitate further onnections with other international institutions. Post colonialism
views development banks such as the IADB as errant organisations imposing the will of wealthy, non
borrowing countries in the form of conditional funds. In academic literature as well as general public
perception, the World Bank and other multilateral development banks (MBDs) have long been viewed
as domineering organizations able to impose themselves upon developing countries, (humphrey)
which is the viewpoint that actually inspired the creation of the IADB. The IADB seems to subvert
this colonising attitude by having the majority of its decision making votes held by borrowing
countries and thus all impositions by the organisation are at the behest and in the interest of the region
itself. The entire culture of the IADB seems to be very pro Latin American policies, through consistent
presidency held by Latin American nationals (in order since its creation, presidents have been from

What Is The Labyrinth In Looking For Alaska
I have the same view of Looking for Alaska having finished it than when I wrote the first journal. It s
crazy good and John Green is a crazy good author. His writing style and technique show how
experienced he is.
Green portrays a lot of different people in his novels. He does seem to use many stereotypical
characters, but I think he means to do it that way. I definitely like characters in novels that do fit into
society. However, when you have people that you can fit into a certain category, it surprises you more
when they do something you wouldn t expect. You have the Weekday Warriors who are rich which
means most of them are mean, too. A big surprise is that the Colonel s girlfriend is a Weekday Warrior.
Once you get to know her, though, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the story gives you a reason and way out of the labyrinth, you re still left to come up with
what the labyrinth means to you. Everybody in the book has their own meaning of what the labyrinth
is to them. The Colonel thinks it s a path that sucks, but the road you have to take. After all this time, it
seems to me like straight and fast is the only way out but I choose the labyrinth. The labyrinth blows,
but I choose it (Green 216). This quote shows that the Colonel knows life gives some horrible twists in
the original plan, however he seems to take it in stride. Pudge believes the only way to get through is
with forgiveness. He s constantly feeling guilty for things he did or didn t do. Finally, he realizes that
he can t let his past haunt him; he has to forgive himself for the past and forgive others. Alaska
believes it is suffering that you need to escape. She believes that all life is, is suffering and you can t
really escape. She has a pretty pessimistic view on life in general and thinks the only way out his
straight and fast. Her death could be a true example of that, which brings us to another issue that
Green leaves us with at the end of the book. How did she really die? The readers are never given and
answer we just have to assume for ourselves that maybe the accident was actually a suicide. Maybe it
was her straight and fast way out by crashing her car into

My time in Banff brought about some amazing learning moments for me; some more direct than
others.
I will be sharing a couple of the ripple effect lessons I learned upon returning home. What I had
learned made me question further some of the concepts I had pondered before...one of them being our
need to be productive.
A large part of the reason why I was having trouble settling in and simply enjoying my time in Banff
was because I had an underlying need to be productive. Even though at a conscious level I no longer
buy into and accept that our time needs to be filled with productive pursuits (not to be confused with
purpose), at a subconscious level that belief was buried quite deep, and so my two minds were
struggling with each other.
We have been raised in a culture that highly values productivity, and that in itself wouldn t be such a
bad thing if we hadn t taken it to extremes. We have come to value ourselves based on how productive
we are, which has led us to be driven, to push ourselves, and to preserve under all conditions...and if

Poetry Is No I Don t Mean Putting A Couple Words Together...
What is poetry? No I don t mean putting a couple words together that rhyme. Rhyme scheme is only a
component of what poetry is. I got this question asked before beginning the unit of poetry. I said When
I think about poetry I think of the flow of a river out into the ocean. The sounds and sight of this
reminds me of poetry. The sounds that the river makes are relaxing and calm as they empty into a vast
body of water. It s like the mind of a poet emptying onto a piece of paper or a keyboard. The sight of
the river flowing also reminds me of poetry. Some poems seem so calm as they empty into the ocean,
so serene. That is what poetry is to me. The flow of thoughts that create a piece of art that is called a
poem. Just as the flow of a calm river that creates another piece of art, called an ocean.
After having my own chance to write my own poem, and also having to recite another poet s poem,
my perspective changed a bit on the whole concept of poetry. Now if someone were to ask me what
poetry is and what it meant I would say poetry is a way to express ones self. Writing a poem is another
way of showing whom you are and how you feel to people who don t know you, or people who don t
know you well enough. It s also a way to relax and release some stress. Just like athletes go to the gym
when they need to relieve some stress, writers grab their notebook and a pencil. Poetry is like picking
out what clothes you want to wear in the morning. You can either decide to be yourself

how there are many what if s in the situation. Juror Eight brings up many different pieces of evidence
and logic to try to understand both sides of the case. He also wants the other jurors to see each side
because he wants a fair trial. So, Juror Eight plays a very important part in this play. Juror Eight began

Instead of getting angry at the Sixth Juror immediately and saying hurtful things back, he continued
with his argument politely. In summary, Juror Eight reveals many traits and characteristics of himself
and these characteristics and his actions impact the story greatly. When the Eighth Juror tried to open
the discussion and give the boy a fair trial, he created the whole story. The entire play would not have
even occurred if not for the Eighth Juror. At the start, all of the jurors wanted to go home. Several even
talk about how they want to get this over with (Rose 7). So, all jurors were willing to vote as quickly
as possible even if it meant that the defendant may not get the fairest hearing. But, the eighth was not
willing to allow this because he wanted a fair trial. So, without the Eighth Juror, would there even be a
story to tell? Most would think not. Juror Eight says many things that make the rest of the jury think a
lot about. For instance, he states, It s not easy to identify a voice (Rose 32). By bringing up this valid
reasoning, he added to the story and gave the boy a fair chance by questioning whether the story of
everybody involved in the case is definitely true. Furthermore, if the Eighth Juror had not promoted
the discussion of this boy s case, everyone would have voted guilty beyond reasonable doubt. But,
there was reasonable doubt from Juror Eight, as

Identity And Identity In Persepolis By Marjane Satrapi
The graphic novel Persepolis, written by Marjane Satrapi, is an autobiographical depiction of her life
in Iran during and after the period of the 1979 Iranian revolution and the Iran Iraq war. It reveals how
Marjane s persona becomes increasingly aware of the cultural and religious influences that surround
her. The conflict between pre revolutionary secular Iranian Western ideals and the post revolutionary
Muslim beliefs affects the formation of her personal identity. Her struggle is portrayed through a
young Iranian woman s identity, where her ten year old self is seen talking to God about her numerous
troubles. She portrays herself as wanting to be normal in a country where posters and designer clothes
were seen as an opposition to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
11, at the the end of the first volume, the vast spaces between Marjane and her parents imply a
transitional space, representing mobility, and displacement. Marjane leaves behind Iran and her family,
establishing a prolepsis through revealing foreknowledge about her future in Austria. She finds herself
lost, in in between the space, separated from her by the glass of the departure gate. The look back in
the airport scene can also be interpreted as metalanguage as the novel is, by itself, a narrative mirror of
the past viewed upon from the present, physically expressed through the form of glass mirrors. When
Marjane looks for the last time to her parents, she is looking to her personal and cultural identity in her
country, leaving them behind to live in Vienna. This image links to the last image of the second
volume, painting a visual echo through the novel, as the ending panel in volume one serves as a mirror
to the final panel in volume two. A lot of the same graphical aspects in volume 2 are present in Fig.
12, such as the presence of the glass panel in the background and the physical separation between
Marjane in the background, and her parents in the foreground. The mood of the picture is much more
optimistic, with Marjane positioned higher up than in Fig. 11, foreboding Marjane s confidence in her
personal identity as she returns to

Descartes The Cartesian Method Of Doubt
The Cartesian method of doubt is a process in which one systematically considers all things purported
to be true and attempts to find a scenario in which they may be untrue. In Descartes own words, the
purpose of this method is to demolish everything completely and start again right from the foundations
. Indeed, by annihilating all which may be considered untrue, Descartes wishes to reconstruct reality
based only principles which are unconditionally true. I believe that Descartes is correct in his
methodology and successful in his attempts to demolish everything dubitable and start again from the
foundations. In support to Descartes method of doubt, I will consider the dreaming argument. In
opposition to Descartes method of doubt, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As previously stated, the purpose of the Cartesian method of doubt is to systematically doubt
everything which cannot be understood to be true with absolute certainty. Before we begin, we must
be clear on the definition of doubt from a Cartesian perspective, specifically, the distinction between
belief defeating doubts and justification defeating doubts . The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy
explains the difference as follows [there are] two kinds of doubt, in terms of two kinds of ways that
doubt can defeat knowledge. Some doubts purport to undermine one s conviction or belief call these
belief defeating doubts . Other doubts purport to undermine one s justification (whether or not they
undermine belief) call these justification defeating doubts . Descartes method of doubt requires
justification defeating doubts, which means the justification for the belief in question is dubitable, not
necessarily the belief itself. This distinction is important when examining the method of doubt, but
even with this justification defeating requirement of dubitability in mind, it does feel as if the method
is asking a bit much. Descartes is essentially asking the reader to doubt every

Hse, Risk Assessment
1. Introduction:
A Health and Safety risk assessment is a planned process in which all hazards in the workplace are
identified and their risk prospective evaluated. The risk possible is a mixture of the likelihood when
could an accident happen with the severity what could result if an accident did happen. Once the risk
potential has been identified, it will allow you to decide whether you have taken adequate (reasonable
practicable) precaution or whether you need to do more to prevent harm. (Boyle, Tony (2008) Health
and Safety: Risk Management,)
Risk assessment is an integral part of any Health and Safety management system. Conducting risk
assessment provided an organization with a safe and effective working environment. Risk ... Show

Hazard identification does not end with the initial investigation. Hazard identification should be
regarded as an ongoing process. In general, the legal requirement is for hazard recognition to be
undertaken; before and during the introduction of new work systems, plant and chemicals to the
workplace; any alteration or change in the work place and where new information on hazards or
control measures becomes available.
A risk management matrix is a tool that can be used to assess a risk by evaluating a hazard s likelihood
of occurring and its potential consequences. This will assist in identifying and prioritize hazards and
implementation of controls.
When conducting a risk assessment the employer must consider the employees under his control and
the general public which his business could affect (OSH Act part II; sec. 6, 7, 8, 9, 10). An important
issue to consider is the people who will be exposed to risks from hazards, and how any individual
characteristics may impact on exposure. Gathering this information at the hazard identification stage
will assist with the risk assessment efforts. In most cases, those affected will be the people involved in
the tasks. During hazard identification people issues such as any special characteristics which should
be taken into account for example, inexperience, age, gender, chemical susceptibility and ergonomic
issues. Consideration must be given to persons not involved in the task. Could the persons be

Thucydides Historical Technique Essay
Thucydides Historical Technique
Thucydides has often been described as one of the fathers of history, and possibly the first historian
that can be used with any real historical accuracy. His objectivity and lack of digressive storytelling
mark him out from previous historians such as Herodotus, and Thucydides began a new era of
historical writing. Although named the father of history, Herodotus wrote in a literary style, rather than
the accurate telling of the facts and objective analysis that Thucydides offers us in his History of the
Peloponnesian War. Herodotus tended to digress with irrelevant storytelling, whereas Thucydides
abandoned this technique, and adopted a method that greatly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

His exile may also have been a blessing in disguise, for it allowed him to become somewhat detached
from the Athenian side, and allowed him to write a more useful and balanced history. I think that this
can be seen when he is describing the opening stages of the war. Corinth and Corcyra are the two
countries who appear to spark off the war. Once war broke out, Corinth became allied with Sparta, and
Corcyra became an ally of Athens following a debate over Corcyra[3]. As well as being an Athenian
Thucydides clearly sees Corcyra as being the aggressor, and describes the way that Corcyra
disrespected its mother city state. (Apparently, Corcyra did not give Corinth the usual respect and
rights due to a founding city, and in fact Corcyra claimed that it was superior to Corinth in a number
of ways.)
…and at the same time they [the Corinthians] hated the Corcyraeans because they failed to show to
Corinth the respect due from a colony to the mother city.
Thucydides shows from the opening lines of his history that it was his vocation to records the events,
and therefore remained unbiased by events throughout the war, and concentrates rather on recording
the events, and including some of his own analysis.
Thucydides later became a general for the Athenians, and was unfortunate to be

Department of Public Safety FY2016
A top down leadership training initiative geared toward the law enforcement environment.
Delung Training: Organizational Behavior
Summary
The Department of Public Safety is embarking on a pilot training initiative to train, instruct, and unify
all members of the department. This initiative begins with top leadership and continues down through
all levels of management and staff. This management directed approach incorporates all aspects and
activity of the department and by using organizational behavior principles, DPS will shape and mold
the thought and decision making process of every person therein. Designed around the needs of the
law enforcement environment, the training will include both civilian and ... Show more content on

The course will spread over three months, four days per month of classroom time. Following the
course, the group of leaders will work together to outline and design an on going course for the rest of
the department. The resulting tailored organizational behavior course will help DPS meet the current
and future challenges of public safety.
The secret to the success of this initiative will not be simply teaching organizational behavior geared
towards the Law Enforcement environment, which it will do; but DPS will take further steps to ensure
complete implementation and continued improvement over time. DPS will develop new programs of
mentoring, situational awareness, personal and team motivation, as part of the daily routine to further
the success of this initiative.
The current leadership at the Department of Public Safety has held a series of meeting with chiefs and
administrators of DPS agencies to identify current trends, where DPS wants to be years down the
road, and how to overcome the gap in the two positions. All those involved felt confident that by bring
together the DPS mindset and having a consistent leadership approach from top leaders, managers,
supervisors, and all DPS employees, covering both civilian and sworn personnel, is the key to move as

William Shakespeare s The Taming of the Shrew Essay
William Shakespeare s The Taming of the Shrew In the play the taming of the shrew I will be
discussing about Katherine Petruchio s behaviour towards each other through words, body language
and stage craft. In the Elizabethan times men kept women as possession the women had many hard
times coping without freedom limited to what they could do out side also women were accompanied
by men at all times because they were thought as being vulnerable. 1ST meeting: When Petruchio and
Katherina first meeting, he winds her up by using the opposite ironic language for example the

Katherine s wishes. We never actually see the wedding take place because Shakespeare wants us to
make our own judgement. We hear from Grumio, a rich old man who tells us about how humiliating it
was to be attending the wedding, Petruchio arrives really late to church making a mockery of
Katherine, he also comes drunk, dressed up as a tramp. No shame but mine.......against my heart . This
language of Katherine shows self pity and disappointment towards her self and this is said before
Petruchio enters. The family and guests enter the church they insist he goes of and gets changed but
Petruchio insists to get married as he is. Grumio describes the wedding as Such a mad marriage never
was before which is very true, Petruchio says Gog s wouns in the church, what he actually meant was
god s wounds . This is evidence to show he is drunk. When this is said the priest drops the prayer book
with shock he bends down to grab the holy book but Petruchio hits the

Copper Nitrate Synthesis Lab Report
In Part C copper seemed to be the least reactive with the nitrate solutions of all of the metals that were
tested. On the other hand, magnesium seemed to be very reactive, as it did have a reaction with each
of the nitrate solutions. In Part B it seemed as though iron had the most violent reaction with
hydrochloric acid. Magnesium is combined with both copper sulphate (CuSO4) and copper nitrate
(Cu(NO3)2). The reactions with both solutions show some similarities such as producing particles.
However with the copper sulphate the solution turns bluer, but in the copper nitrate the magnesium
actually turns into a blue hue. The metals from all three parts if placed in a reactivity series, from most
reactive to least reactive, would look like this:

Dopamine Replacement Therapy Research Paper
1. Dopamine Replacement Therapy Reverses Abnormal Synchronization of Pallidal Neurons in the 1

In the basal ganglia, one of the crucial neuro modulator is dopamine. It interacts with basal ganglia
output nuclei and regulates the motor activity. In Parkinson s disease dopaminergic neuron Substantia
Nigra Pars Compacta(Snc) degenerated which is the main provenience of dopamine origination. The

Neuronal Synchronization
In normal subjects neurons fire independently and procure less synchrony. But in the case of disease
state, subset or most of the neurons in the basal ganglia nuclei tend to fire together and exhibit greater
rate of synchrony. Individual synchrony investigation on pallidum nuclei suggest that Gpi neuron
represents increased synchrony when compared to Gpe neuron.
3. Treatment regime Dopamine Treatment ON/OFF state:
Posterior to MPTP treatment dopamine therapy was administered twice a day.
DRT OFF: After 12 hours of dopamine regime the neuronal firing rate/ synchrony was monitored.
DRT ON: Dopamine therapy was provided to the subjects after 35 minutes later the firing rate was
monitored for an hour. Dopamine therapy decreases the synchronization and reverses the firing rate of
pallidum rneuron. But very less of Gpi neuron is firing when compared to normal. After six weeks of
DRT treatment resulted in dykinetic behavior in primates (side effect of L dopa medication) In human
it takes some years to exhibit this behavioral activity due to species divergence and drug metabolism.

Social Behavior For Children With Adhd
However, when CWPT was combined with peer coaching, there were improvements in social
behavior for children with ADHD (Plumer and Stoner, 2005).
Peer coaching may also be a good way to insure that students learn the hidden curriculum. The hidden
curriculum is information about values, beliefs and attitudes that are somehow conveyed to students
regarding the rules and routines needed to succeed in school and in society. The goals set by coaching
teams could easily include information from the hidden curriculum as it applies to the behavior of the
child with ADHD. For example, since children with ADHD often have difficulty with rule following,
a goal the child with ADHD could work on might be to raise his or her hand when the child wants to
speak.
Making Socially Accepting Inclusive Classrooms (MOSAIC) is a teacher implemented and directed
intervention designed specifically for children with ADHD to help them improve their social
interactions and peer relationships. MOSAIC is based on the theory that in order to achieve optimal
peer relationships, children with ADHD require classroom structures that aim to (a) increase peers
social acceptance of children with special needs such as ADHD, and (b) increase socially skilled and
reduce disruptive behaviors of children with ADHD. To achieve these aims, teachers in MOSAIC: (a)
model warm, positive interpersonal interactions with students (to encourage peers to follow this
example of social acceptance); and (b) institute

Slang As A Symbol Of A Winter Wonderland, The Holidays,...
As a symbol of a winter wonderland, the holidays, individuality, and beauty, snowflakes elicit feelings
of warmth and happiness from within one s soul. However, the usage of this word has deviated from
its usual meaning of a winter phenomenon, and has maneuvered its way into derogatory social and
political slang throughout history. It has been used as a means to call out those that have disputed the
Peculiar Institution, a way to dehumanize African Americans, and now, a generalization of a
hypersensitive Millennial generation. Through this essay, the history of the term s slang use will be

11). Since the election of Trump as the 45th president of the United States, there has been a huge
divide among Republicans and Democrats across America leading to back and forth bantering about
their political views. In a time of such political tension the term snowflake was revived as a jab
towards their opponents. In February, the hashtag #HowToSpotASnowflake was trending on Twitter,
fueling comments such as, #HowToSpotASnowflake They show up to march in a protest but when
interviewed, they don t know what they re protesting (Pignataro par. 4). Another target of the slander
are Millennials, as they are constantly berated with the term by members of the older generation such
as Claire Fox and Marc Thiessen for being egocentric, having an inaccurate portrayal of the first
amendment, and being unable to accept opinions that contradict theirs. Nonetheless, this label isn t
meant to characterize a specific age, race, or political group, but it can be applied to anyone. A
possible candidate for the perfect snowflake is President Donald Trump. Prior to serving as the 45th
President of the United States, Trump gained notoriety as a billionaire real estate mogul and a
television personality from starring in the Apprentice and spinoff, the Celebrity Apprentice. After
making a name for himself in the entertainment and business industry, Trump decided to branch off

  • 2. Hiroshima, By Robert Lewis, Co Pilot Of Enola Gay Just how many Japs did we kill? I honestly have the feeling or groping for words to explain this or I might say my God, what have we done? written by Captain Robert Lewis, co pilot of Enola Gay over Hiroshima, Japan, presently after 8:15 a.m. on August 6, 1945. The too large gust of wind, and the looming mushroom cloud rising over the blackened city were all vaguely mentioned in his captain s log. A small sketch of the first ever nuclear warfare attack can be found hastily scribbled on the back of Lewis s log that was later stowed away, the sight destined to plague his mind in the years to follow. Captain Lewis account of Hiroshima is only one of thousands who never spoke about whether it was right or wrong. Lewis was not thinking about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many United States governmental personnel were aware that victory was assured at this point. According to General Henry Hap Arnold, Army Air Forces commander, as stated in his 1949 Global Mission, It always appeared to us that atomic bomb or no atomic bomb the Japanese were already on the verge of collapse (Weber.) Though Japan was the first to attack the United States that did not mean the war would follow in their favor. When the ending months of World War II came around it had become clear which country had the greater advantage, and whom ultimately stood on top. The resources available, damage taken, and military readiness deciding that the United States had already won. The truth being that Japan had already lost months before Hiroshima was attacked. The Japanese military had no way to make a comeback, and using a nuclear weapon when this was so obviously clear is undeniably unwarranted. Due to Japan s dwindling position in the war, turning the tides stood nearly impossible; nonetheless they remained loyal to their Emperor in never giving up. Japanese soldiers believe that death came before betraying their country. However, several powerful Japanese military personnel had realized that to preserve Japan itself, surrendering was a small price to pay over annilliation. The story is set in the Kingdom of Denmark, which dramatizes the revenge of Prince Hamlet upon his uncle Claudius. According to the Ghost of Hamlet s father, Claudius had murdered his own brother and seized the throne, also marrying his deceased brother s wife. Throughout the play, the story focuses on Hamlet s plan to revenge Claudius. However, many characters along the way were victimized by others for their own gain. The Ghost uses Hamlet as a pawn; Hamlet uses Ophelia as a pawn and Claudius uses Laertes as a pawn, which ultimately caused their own death. At the beginning of the play, Hamlet is the first to be used as pawn when the Ghost uses him to kill Claudius. When Hamlet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ophelia describes him as looking and acting like a heartbroken lover since she is convinced that the reason for his strange behavior is due to her rejection of any communication with him. Even though Ophelia does not know she is part of Hamlet s plan, she believes that Hamlet s behavior is true. She is devastated and confused and is convinced that he has lost his mind. When they meet later on, Hamlet acts even more insane. He even goes to extent of insulting her when he says, God has given you one face and you make/ yourselves another. You jig, you amble, and you lisp/ and nickname God s creatures and make your/ wantonness your ignorance. (3.1.144 147). Here, Hamlet uses cruel means to portray his madness. He even talks against his true thoughts of Ophelia by telling her I love you not (3.1.119). At this point, Ophelia is unsure how to behave or what to believe. She has become a key component to Hamlet s plan although it slowly begins to destroy her. She is unable to control her grief due to the broken promises, cruel insults and sense of abandonment she feels from Hamlet. In result, she brings herself into a destructive madness. • 5. Poetry Analysis of Introduction to Poetry Poetry analysis of Introduction to Poetry The Poem Introduction to Poetry is by Billy Collins, an English poet, and it is about how teachers often force students to over analyze poetry and to try decipher every possible meaning portrayed throughout the poem rather than allowing the students to form their own interpretation of the poem based on their own experiences. Throughout the poem, a number of literary devices are used. For example: or press an ear against its hive . Using this metaphor, Billy Collins is comparing the body of a poem to the hive of a bee. The hive of a bee appears to be something dangerous and unknown, just like a new poem, never before seen, with which one is unfamiliar. Using this metaphor, Billy Collins is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is an effective metaphor as water skiing brings about a great sense of joy and is fun, just as reading a poem in Billy Collins opinion should be. The use of onomatopoeic devices and onomatopoeic words are abundant in this poem. For instance, I say drop a mouse into a poem is a line whereby the word drop , a very onomatopoeic word, effectively suggests that the reader of a poem must gently analyze a poem. This is portrayed through the gentle p sound of the word and this is therefore effective as the reader gets a sense of the gentleness Billy Collins wishes his readers had when it comes to analyzing poetry. The fact that enjambment is used throughout the poem such as in the lines, like a colour slide or press an ear against its hive portrays a lack of structure and therefore emphasizes the initial enjoyment one feels when reading a poem before the chore of analyzing it begins. This is also emphasized through the fact that the poem is a free verse poem. The poem suddenly becomes much darker in the last stanza and a Billy Collins explains how teachers, students or general readers of poetry torture a poem by being what he believes is cruelly analytical. He says, all they want to do is tie the poem to a chair with rope and torture a confession out of it . Here, the poem is being personified yet again and this brings about an almost human connection between the reader and the poem. This use of personification is effective as it makes the ... • 7. Analysis Of The Article The Model Minority Losing... It is the 21st century and there is still racial prejudice in America. Many may not realize this, but there is a growing problem between Asian Americans and the American society. A growing issue is that minorities, especially Asian Americans are being judged based on their race rather than the accolades and achievements they have accomplished. In the article The model minority is losing patience, the article discusses about a high school senior by the name of Michael Wang, who was denied six out of seven Ivy League colleges, even after coming in second place in his class of 1,002 students for academics, scoring a 36 (perfect) score on the ACT, scoring in the top 150 of a national math competition, and much more. Many would assume based on all of these accolades and achievements, any student would be accepted to many elite colleges, including Ivy League schools. The article goes on to say that racial prejudice is a major problem even within the high school level. Racial prejudice is a major problem as discussed within the article, and the authors do an effective job in presenting that there is a major racial prejudice issue among high school students and college administration s. This article starts out with a simple story of a high school senior by the name of Michael Wang. Mr. Wang s story is a story of unfairness. A story of inequality. A story of a one man s success, becoming meaningless with the denial of college administrations. The article shows that Mr. Wang was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Subsequently, a small group of women s rights activists in attendance at the Third National Conference of Commissions on the Status of Women, held on June 28 30 in 1966 in Washington, D.C., grew frustrated with the inability to influence the end of sex discrimination with regards to employment (NOW, 2011). Recognizing the public interest in the social movement which led to the implementation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, feminist activists seized the opportunity to leverage the momentum and apply it to their cause for women s rights. Indeed, activist Betty Friedan played a critical role in the formation of NOW and reportedly remarked that it was the suggestion of the commissioners and attorney for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) that an organization be formed to advocate on behalf of women similarly to the way civil rights groups were advocating on behalf of African Americans (NOW, 2011). With this in mind, Freidan invited a group of like minded conference participants to her hotel room that evening for further discussion about how to influence action on behalf of women. Additionally, Freidan is credited with writing the acronym N O W on a paper napkin and motivating her fellow activists to band together for their cause. The following day, the original group of twenty women gathered for lunch and recruited eight additional women who were interested in the idea of creating a formal body to address concerns at the conference. One of the women in the group, Analoyce Clapp, is credited with creating the first mission statement for the group at the conference, to take action to bring women into full participation in the mainstream of American society now, assuming all the privileges and responsibilities thereof in truly equal partnership with men (NOW, 2011). Cambridge Analytica is a London based company that helps business and political groups change audience behavior . Cambridge Analytica became responsible for the breach in 2015, when one of its psychology professors created the app thisisyourdigitallife. The app consisted of a personality quiz which asked Facebook users to provide information about themselves. Only 270,000 Facebook users actually signed up and took personality tests, however the app harvested data from the Facebook friends connected to those users without their consent. Once the data was analyzed, the data was then organized and packaged so that political spin doctors can create more effective slogans and campaign messages. Some may react by deactivating their accounts, and that will result in loss in revenue for the company. The breach violates Facebook s business ethics because one of the most prioritized objectives is to protect the information shared by users. Facebook reportedly knew about the data harvesting in 2015, and asked companies holding the data to delete it but had no way of making sure that they actually did so. Due to the movies, popular hit song, Jai Ho and the famous choreographed dance shown in a memorable performance during the closing credits of the film, known as Bollywood dance, has exploded into dance studios, workout facilities, and films worldwide. It describes Bharata Natyam key elements, such as; mudras, specific hand movements and positions used to convey the stories, facial expressions, body movements and postures. Additionally, explained in the Natya Shastra, the dancer must use emotions, known as rasas to convey her story. There are eight basic rasas; love, humor, pathos, anger, heroism terror, disgust and wonder, added later was serenity. Families and teachers who taught the devadasis, made a conscience effort to continue the teachings of this dance for generations through oral tradition. Originally performed for royalty and the wealthy, eventually devadasis, in some areas, were considered prostitutes and priests were known as pimps. The devadasis reached an all time low when the British began colonization of India toward the end of the nineteenth century. They were shocked to see women singing in dancing in temples, with very little or no clothing. In 1927, temple dancing in India was banned. However, it continued to survive, in 1934 Rukmini Devi decided to establish a school, Kalashektras, in Madras. She paved the way for a more respectable dance movement. • 11. How Did The Industrial Revolution Affect Children s Life... Introduction Until 1833, the lives of children were often extremely long and difficult. They were forced to work long hours, with very little sleep from the age of 6. These conditions were unlawful and cruel. Children aged from six years old in the industrial revolution worked hard hours for very little. The children usually worked up to 19 hours a day, with a one hour break. Not only were these children subject to long hours, but also, they were in horrible conditions. Large, heavy, and dangerous equipment was very common for children to be using or working near. Many accidents happened killing or injuring children on the job. Children were only paid only a fraction of what an adult would get, and sometimes factory owners would pay them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The younger children, who were not old enough to use the equipment, were sent to help the textile workers. The people who the children served would beat them, verbally abuse them, and take no consideration for their safety. Both girls and boys who laboured in factories were given beatings and other harsh forms of painful punishments. One punishment for being late or not working hard enough would be to be weighted. A slave master would tie a heavy weight to a child s neck, and have them walk through the factory aisles so the other children could see them and become intimidated. This could last sometimes an hour. Boys were sometimes dragged naked from their beds and sent to the factories only holding their clothes, to be put on there. This was to make sure the boys would not be late, even by a few minutes. There were people in this time period that strongly advocated the use or the abolishment of child labour, or at least the improvement of conditions. Factory owners loved child labour, and they supported their reasoning with ideas that it was good for everything from the economy to the building of the children s characters. Parents of the children who worked were almost forced to at least allow it as they needed the income. • 13. Inductive Vs. Inductive Reasoning Although inductive reasoning is as we shall see not logically continuous, it is nevertheless a seemingly parsimonious avenue for the formation of theories and conceptions about the world around us. The sun has risen and fallen every day up until this point in time and while this may not logically prove that it will do the same tomorrow, the popular belief is that this repetition gives us a firm ontological grounding for expecting it to do so. This does not seem unreasonable, at least in one sense of the word; indeed, if you happened to meet an individual who claimed to possess an agnostic belief about whether or not the sun is likely to reappear tomorrow, then you would most likely consider them to be a very odd person. So inductive inferences are all around us, they are the functional basis of our understanding of the world. For the sake of this paper, then, it is important to understand what we mean when we talk about an inductive inference. Presented in its most rudimentary construct, the inductive inference appears in the logical form: (I) Pa1,..., Pan Pan+1, or (II) Pa1,..., Pan AxPx. Let us briefly explore these two statements. In statement (I), an+1 denotes a different object or form from those denoted by a1 ,...., an. During the application of these principles (I) and (II), we are to assume that we do not know any non P s, and furthermore that the class of a1 ,..., an are the sole objects for which we know that they are P s. • 16. The Iadb Will Be Post Colonialism And Liberal... Sinister Intentions? A Theoretical Review The two theories that will be contrasted against the work of the IADB will be post colonialism and liberal institutionalism. Post colonialism makes a strong argument for the ability of the bank to abuse the developing countries of Latin America, as well as predicting the very real examples of abuse from the bank on indigenous communities in the region. Liberal institutionalism explains how the IADB promotes the interests of all involved and actually helps the region facilitate further onnections with other international institutions. Post colonialism views development banks such as the IADB as errant organisations imposing the will of wealthy, non borrowing countries in the form of conditional funds. In academic literature as well as general public perception, the World Bank and other multilateral development banks (MBDs) have long been viewed as domineering organizations able to impose themselves upon developing countries, (humphrey) which is the viewpoint that actually inspired the creation of the IADB. The IADB seems to subvert this colonising attitude by having the majority of its decision making votes held by borrowing countries and thus all impositions by the organisation are at the behest and in the interest of the region itself. The entire culture of the IADB seems to be very pro Latin American policies, through consistent presidency held by Latin American nationals (in order since its creation, presidents have been from ... It s crazy good and John Green is a crazy good author. His writing style and technique show how experienced he is. Green portrays a lot of different people in his novels. He does seem to use many stereotypical characters, but I think he means to do it that way. I definitely like characters in novels that do fit into society. However, when you have people that you can fit into a certain category, it surprises you more when they do something you wouldn t expect. After all this time, it seems to me like straight and fast is the only way out but I choose the labyrinth. The labyrinth blows, but I choose it (Green 216). I will be sharing a couple of the ripple effect lessons I learned upon returning home. What I had learned made me question further some of the concepts I had pondered before...one of them being our need to be productive. A large part of the reason why I was having trouble settling in and simply enjoying my time in Banff was because I had an underlying need to be productive. Even though at a conscious level I no longer buy into and accept that our time needs to be filled with productive pursuits (not to be confused with purpose), at a subconscious level that belief was buried quite deep, and so my two minds were struggling with each other. We have been raised in a culture that highly values productivity, and that in itself wouldn t be such a bad thing if we hadn t taken it to extremes. We have come to value ourselves based on how productive we are, which has led us to be driven, to push ourselves, and to preserve under all conditions...and if ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I got this question asked before beginning the unit of poetry. I said When I think about poetry I think of the flow of a river out into the ocean. The sounds and sight of this reminds me of poetry. The sounds that the river makes are relaxing and calm as they empty into a vast body of water. It s like the mind of a poet emptying onto a piece of paper or a keyboard. The sight of the river flowing also reminds me of poetry. Some poems seem so calm as they empty into the ocean, so serene. That is what poetry is to me. The flow of thoughts that create a piece of art that is called a poem. Just as the flow of a calm river that creates another piece of art, called an ocean. After having my own chance to write my own poem, and also having to recite another poet s poem, my perspective changed a bit on the whole concept of poetry. Now if someone were to ask me what poetry is and what it meant I would say poetry is a way to express ones self. Writing a poem is another way of showing whom you are and how you feel to people who don t know you, or people who don t know you well enough. It s also a way to relax and release some stress. Just like athletes go to the gym when they need to relieve some stress, writers grab their notebook and a pencil. Poetry is like picking out what clothes you want to wear in the morning. At the start, all of the jurors wanted to go home. Several even talk about how they want to get this over with (Rose 7). So, all jurors were willing to vote as quickly as possible even if it meant that the defendant may not get the fairest hearing. Juror Eight says many things that make the rest of the jury think a lot about. For instance, he states, It s not easy to identify a voice (Rose 32). In Descartes own words, the purpose of this method is to demolish everything completely and start again right from the foundations . Indeed, by annihilating all which may be considered untrue, Descartes wishes to reconstruct reality based only principles which are unconditionally true. As previously stated, the purpose of the Cartesian method of doubt is to systematically doubt everything which cannot be understood to be true with absolute certainty. Before we begin, we must be clear on the definition of doubt from a Cartesian perspective, specifically, the distinction between belief defeating doubts and justification defeating doubts . The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy explains the difference as follows [there are] two kinds of doubt, in terms of two kinds of ways that doubt can defeat knowledge. Some doubts purport to undermine one s conviction or belief call these belief defeating doubts . Other doubts purport to undermine one s justification (whether or not they undermine belief) call these justification defeating doubts . Descartes method of doubt requires justification defeating doubts, which means the justification for the belief in question is dubitable, not necessarily the belief itself. The risk possible is a mixture of the likelihood when could an accident happen with the severity what could result if an accident did happen. Once the risk potential has been identified, it will allow you to decide whether you have taken adequate (reasonable practicable) precaution or whether you need to do more to prevent harm. In general, the legal requirement is for hazard recognition to be undertaken; before and during the introduction of new work systems, plant and chemicals to the workplace; any alteration or change in the work place and where new information on hazards or control measures becomes available. A risk management matrix is a tool that can be used to assess a risk by evaluating a hazard s likelihood of occurring and its potential consequences. This will assist in identifying and prioritize hazards and implementation of controls. When conducting a risk assessment the employer must consider the employees under his control and the general public which his business could affect (OSH Act part II; sec. 6, 7, 8, 9, 10). An important issue to consider is the people who will be exposed to risks from hazards, and how any individual characteristics may impact on exposure. Although named the father of history, Herodotus wrote in a literary style, rather than the accurate telling of the facts and objective analysis that Thucydides offers us in his History of the Peloponnesian War. Once war broke out, Corinth became allied with Sparta, and Corcyra became an ally of Athens following a debate over Corcyra[3]. As well as being an Athenian Thucydides clearly sees Corcyra as being the aggressor, and describes the way that Corcyra disrespected its mother city state. (Apparently, Corcyra did not give Corinth the usual respect and rights due to a founding city, and in fact Corcyra claimed that it was superior to Corinth in a number of ways.) …and at the same time they [the Corinthians] hated the Corcyraeans because they failed to show to Corinth the respect due from a colony to the mother city.
