Outcome Of Two Major Railroad Strikes
1. Identify and describe the outcome of two major Railroad Strikes. The two major Railroad Strikes
were the Great Railroad Strike of 1877 and Railroad Shop workers Strike of 1922. The Great Railroad
Strike of 1877, was due to workers not being happy about the pay cuts that were being made by their
employer so often. Northern Railroads began cutting salaries and wages. Because of various railroads
cutting wages by 10% back to back, workers were not willing to continue working under those
conditions. Not only were the wages of the workers being cut, the amount work of work given to the
employees increased and the employer did not hire additional workers. This then caused railroad
employees to respond by taking control of the rail yard switches, and blocking movement of trains.
Throughout various cities such as Baltimore, Pittsburg, St. Louise, and Chicago, Violent acts began to
occur. Many people died throughout the cities. The strike cause the country s commerce to become
paralyzed and pushed governors in different states to utilize militia members to reopen rail traffic.
This action also helped set the stage for violence that would occur later in the 1880s and 1890s. The
Railroad Shop Workers Strike of 1922 affected everyone in the country. This strike occurred because
of the pay cut of seven cents to the wages of the railroad workers. Approximately 400,000 rail shop
workers from various unions were on strike because the cut was announced by the railroad labor
board. When

Culture Is The Sum Total Of Ways Of Living Built Up By A...
What is culture? Culture has a very broad definition. But in terms of anthropology, culture is the sum
total of ways of living built up by a group of human beings and transmitted from one generation to
another (www.dictionary.com). Culture is learned, it is passed on from many generations. What is
gender? Gender is either the male or female division of a species, especially as differentiated by social
and cultural roles and behavior. However, gender plays a big role in culture all around the world. In
this analysis essay I will be analyzing how males and females are raised with differences in third
world countries compared to the western culture of the United States. What are the roles that males
and females have? In countries such as India, Pakistan, China, there is still a lot of controversy about
how a male and female should be treated. It has a lot to do with culture and tradition. Some of these
cultural traits have been passed down from generations and are still around which some people follow.
Some may consider it double standards and others may think that it is the norm. So how is gender
related to culture? In society it is expected that the women and men behave a certain way. The gender
disparities are shaped and formed by culture. It is better explained by Jyotirmaya Tripathy who wrote
the article How Gendered is Gendered Development? Culture, Masculinity, and Gender Differences ,
she explains that though there has been some modernity in third

Between John F Kennedy And Martin Luther King Jr
The Declaration of Independence clearly states that all men are created equal yet many African
Americans were denied equal liberty because of the color of their skin. Due to this unfit justice a small
group of gallant men began a long struggle to reshape a nation based on their view of equality. Among
these men, two stood out the most; John F Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr. Both were known to
many as inspirational and significant leaders of the Civil Rights Movement, whom invested their
power and belief towards equality. Three key events that led to the enactment of the Civils Right Act
of 1964 include John F. Kennedy s 1963 Civil Rights speech, Martin Luther King s I Have a Dream
speech, and the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Lastly, these events ended public segregation and
led to employment equality for all regardless of their skin color. There was a point in time when
African Americans were beaten, harassed, and treated unfairly due to their skin color. Martin Luther

Character Analysis Of To Build A Fire By Jack London
It was a clear day, and yet there seemed an intangible pall over the face of things, a subtle gloom that
made the day dark, and that was due to the absence of the sun. Throughout Jack London s To Build a
Fire there is a sense of slow burning dread as readers are introduced to the man and his gradual, but
inevitable death, brought upon by himself. London s short story opens with the main character, a man,
foolishly embarking on the long journey back to camp in the freezing Yukon, accompanied only by a
husky mix. It is in this unforgivingly harsh weather that the man meets his fate, at his own hand. From
the beginning of the story, the man displays flawed behaviors and personality traits that render him
unable to survive on his solo journey in the Yukon, becoming his own worst enemy. One of the most
prominent facets of the man s personality is his overwhelming arrogance. The man is a newcomer to
the Yukon territory or chechaquo , and is inexperienced in the customs of the land. The man believes
that he will be unaffected by the harsh conditions and does not seem to grasp the grave reality of the
situation. This characteristic is displayed early in the story, when the man rebuffs the old timer s
warning advice and later mocks the old man and his caution of the danger of traveling in the freezing
temperatures, especially without a partner. Those old timers are rather womanish, some of them, he
thought (1210). Despite the likelihood that the old timer has spent his lifetime in the area, the man
considers his advice to be weak and believes, arrogantly, that he is superior in his masculinity and
abilities. Eventually, the man realizes that he should have listened to the words of the old man in
Sulphur Creek. Further, the man s arrogance is displayed again when he ignores the warning signs that
the environment is not suitable for such a long solo trek. Despite the incredible cold, the man fails to
comprehend just how miniscule he is compared to nature. ...the absence of sun from the sky, the
tremendous cold, and the strangeness and weirdness of it all made no impression on the man (1205). It
is this arrogance that limits the man s ability to grasp how insignificant his life is compared to the
great power of

Gullah Or Sea Island Creole English
Background information about the African languages that contributed to Gullah.
Gullah (or Geechee or Sea Island Creole English) formed separately on the Sea Islands off the coast of
the Carolinas, Georgia, and Florida throughout the 18th and 19th centuries among enslaved Western
Africans. They developed a language that combined grammatical, phonological, and lexical features
of the non standard English varieties spoken by white slaveholders and farmers in that region of the
United States along with those from numerous Western and Central African languages. According to
this view, Gullah developed separately, or distinctly, from African American English and varieties of
English spoken in the South.
Why was English first introduced?
English was first introduced in these sea islands and surrounding areas due to the large amount of
West African slaves that were taken from their home country that had many different dialects (Wolof,
Malinke, Mandinka, Bambara to name a few). Due to the difference in dialects a similar language was
needed for them communicate so English was used as it was a prevalent and accessible language
commonly spoken by slaveholders.
The Southern American English Variety.
Gullah developed from Southern American English. Which originated from a combination of
immigrants from the British Isles, who moved to the American South in the 17th and 18th centuries,
and from prior creole or post creole speech of African slaves.

Led Zeppelin
Led Zeppelin were never afraid to try new musical directions, drawing inspiration from such styles as
blues, rock, folk, country (and everything in between!) to create a unique sound that almost defies
description, probably the most appropriate way to describe their vast repertoire is simply as Led
Zeppelin . During their reign they created one of the most enduring and diverse catalogues in modern
music and firmly secured their status as one of the most influential groups ever (probably second only
to The Beatles!).
Throughout their years at the top they were shrouded in mystery and intrigue, and seemed to leave
behind a trail of question marks wherever they went. They were not a public band (they didn t hire a ...

Compared to previous reels, these exist in almost mixed and completed form. There are however, a
number of differences to report as they mix down the material enthusiastically.
Darlene, played in a happy upbeat major key opens with a one, two, three, four allegro tempo count in
from John Bonham, which gives the song quadruple meter. Very similar to the take that eventually
surfaced on Coda , it pummels along in friendly conjunct legato form, live in the studio style. This is
clearly a consonant harmony, exemplifying verse and chorus form. Robert Plant s vocal mix set can be
detected after the Pink carnation and a pick up truck line. From that point he accompanies Jimmy Page
s delightful fortissimo solo adding, I don t care what they say, I love you anyway, I ll drive you wild .
Like most of these Polar mixes, instead of fading out; the homophonic track grinds to a halt with a
tinkling of John Paul Jones electric piano played mezzo forte.
The version of Fool In The Rain, played in major key show this composition nearing its completed
verse and chorus mix. Some of the studio banter retained from Polar demonstrates the fun atmosphere
that the four were working in. The beginning of Fool In The Rain, is forte, after Page counts in two,
three Plant wades in with a quatro! giving this song its allegretto quadruple meter. This mix

Everyone Need Social Justice
According to John F Kennedy, All of us do not have equal talent, but all of us should have an equal
opportunity to develop our talent. Social justice is access to all things in our life, no matter our talents,
our beliefs, morals and goals. According to Google, social justice is justice in terms of terms of the
distribution of wealth, opportunities and privileges within a society. Everyone needs social justice in
their life because everyone should be treated equal because everyone is unique in their own way. Not
everyone is getting social justice in terms of education because of crumbling school systems, low
income and rising college costs.

According to the Department Of Education, Members of low income families are much less prepared
for college than their higher income counterparts. For example, among high school graduates in 1992,
only 21 percent of those with family incomes of less than $25,000 were highly qualified for admission
at a four year institution, and 20 percent were minimally qualified. For students with family incomes
above $75,000, 56 percent were highly qualified and 12 percent minimally qualified (Department of

lower the family s income, the less prepared their child is to enter college and the higher the family s
income, the more prepared their child is for college. According to the NY Times, One reason for the
growing gap in achievement, researchers say, could be that wealthy parents invest more time and
money than ever before in their children (in weekend sports, ballet, music lessons, math tutors, and in
overall involvement in their children s schools), while lower income families, which are now more
likely than ever to be headed by a single parent, are increasingly stretched for time and resources

thirties, when
the country was young with rich natural resources, but in the same time with no income or qualified

Persuasive Tones
Tone is a very important part in writing essays, letters, articles, and even ads. There are many different
tones you can use in your writing. If you are writing an argumentative writing then tone can either
strengthen or weaken your argument. For example these two sixth graders named Dave Kessler and
Janet Chen, wrote argumentative letters to their schools editor about ads in their schools. Dave Kessler
chose to use a persuasive tone in his letter, saying that he thinks ads in schools should be banned. This
strengthened his argument a lot because he needed to get his point across. For example, Advertising
may allow a school to get a brand new scoreboard, books or band uniforms, but the price students pay
is too great (Kessler 1). With

Art School Budgets
Budgets cuts are being made to music and art classes in schools across the country. While they are
among the most expensive programs for a school to maintain, parents and communities are finding
themselves concerned about the declining exposure to the arts. According to the National Center for
Education Statistics, the number of elementary schools offering performing arts has dropped over 60%
since 2008. The argument can be made that large amounts of money are saved by terminating art
programs, but art programs have been shown to have positive impacts on student learning, with some
of the most impressive improvements being made outside of art class. Are the experiences art classes

Students who took four years of art classes scored an average of 91 points higher on the SAT than
those who took less than a year. Art and music classes, especially when taken at a younger age,
improve a wide range of motor skills, from hand eye coordination to spatial temporal skills. A study
by E. Glenn Schellenberg at the University of Toronto at Mississauga found that first graders who
were given weekly piano and voice lessons had an average of 3 points higher IQ than those who didn t
have the classes. Another study from Harvard found that students who take art classes are and 3 times
more likely to earn bachelor s degrees than those who don t. The same study also discovered that
students who didn t take art classes are also 5 times more likely to drop out of high school. There is a
solution that satisfies both the exposure to art while saving the school money. Many high schools offer
art and music classes beyond the basic introductory courses. These advanced courses are often over
specialized courses that have fewer students and might require even more funds for equipment for
their specialty focus. This way, students get the exposure and opportunity to make art, while funds are

Sexism In America
Women in the United States have acquired constitutional rights over the time; however, discrimination
still exists. Sexism occurs frequently in the workplace. In fact, sexism is one of the main barriers that
women face. For example, women in the same job as men usually earn less, even though both have the
same education and skills that are require for completing the job. Indeed, paying women less than men
for the same job is a blatant discrimination that could be solve by providing equality among genders.

America has always been a nation of immigrants. Over our history, generations of immigrants seeking
a better life for themselves and their families have come to this country and made it what it is today.
Our country has a lot of races such as Asians, Native Americans, Hispanics, African Americans and

Another privileged of being Hispanic is being bilingual. Knowing two languages can help us advance

We do not have a lot of saying when it comes to politics. We are consider the largest minority group in

A Comprehensive Analysis Of Davidson s Article,...
In Mark Davidson s article, Displacement, Space and Dwelling: Placing Gentrification Debate , he
cites several contemporary case studies where certain deteriorated areas have been targeted for
redevelopment and subsequent evictions have taken place. Using several philosophical authors, such
as Heidegger and Lefebvre, Davidson s focuses on the effect spatial metaphors have on displacement,
and how these concepts tie into the conceptualization of space. In this paper I will compile a thorough
summary of the article and formulate a comprehensive analysis of Davidson s arguments as well as his
sources. Davidson begins his article with arguably one of the most notable and recent subjects of
gentrification, 1520 Sedgwick, the birthplace of Hip Hop. This dilapidated apartment building s
owners announced they planned to leave New York State s Mitchell Lama programe (pg. 2), which
would result in the current residents evictions. Essentially the program offered tax incentives to
building owners who limit equity to maintain low cost units. However, in lieu of tax incentives many
building owners have elected to leave the program in order to make more profit via higher costing
units, which current residents cannot afford. In the case of 1520 Sedgwick current and former
residents, such as the credited father of Hip Hop Kool Herc, have veiled their mission to prevent the
gentrification process from consuming their building by petitioning for a historic listing as well as
offering to

The Lost World of Genesis One Book Review
Within this book review we will discuss many characteristics of the author and the book. Who he is,
where his stance on the subject is, his motives, and techniques that were used to open the readers mind
to understand his perspective on Genesis one. The author of the book, John H. Walton was a professor
at Moody bible institute for thirty years before becoming the current professor of Old Testament at
Wheaton College. The question that Walton asks is, in what way should we interpret the story of
Genesis? His primary focus throughout the novel is to show how the seven days of genesis compare to

scientific theories, ancient near eastern text and sources from the bible as well to prove his thesis. The

The First World War Was A Time Of Huge Change For Technology
The first world war was a time of huge change for technologies and many innovations were made. The
first of the three I will write about is the change of machine guns and how useful and significant they
were in the first world war.
On the one hand, machine guns could be said to be significant because of the extra fire power they
provided on a battlefield. It has been estimated that a machine gun creates the equivalent to anywhere
between 60 to 100 rifles, depending on the source, in from one weapon. This gave an army defending
a position a huge advantage over the attacking side and almost certainly prolonged the stalemate as
breaking enemy lines became so difficult as reaching the enemy trench was a near impossible thing to
do with the machine gun firing at the attacking men. It has been estimated that around 20% of the
casualties of world war 1 were caused by the machine gun. and This figure is very high considering all
the possible causes of death in the battlefields of WW1. What also made the machine gun of the first
world war significant was how it affected the future. These early models were the basis of a weapon
used in all places of the world ever since these first guns were used in the before and mainly during
the first world war. The first world war was the period that caused the potential of the machine gun to
be recognised. Germany saw the machine gun for the potential it held before the war and had far more
of them. This proved to be a big advantage for the

Price is an important factor that consumers take into consideration before buy a car. We must to
maintain our prices in the same line of our competitors. Our most important target in the next years
will be young people who are having more income. We need to show our products in places where
young people usually attend, like universities, young and fashion neighborhoods and in streets where
youth used to frequent. Another important factor to succeed with our Start from Zero strategy is the
promotion. Considering our target will be young people, is necessary to promote in the most popular
TV shows that young people used to watch. Also we can advertise in fashion magazines and billboards

Comparing The Seafarer And The Wanderer
Looking at these two poems considered to be sister poems I have found distinct similarities and
differences. In The Seafarer, an old man is reflecting upon his life as a sailor. He described his
personal burdens of being on sea but he does find beauty in it. But as in The Wanderer, a warrior is
upon the ocean searching for comfort as he mourns the loss of his loved ones and society. It is well
understood that they have the feeling of loneliness in common as well as the importance in sharing a
connection with God. But there are differences as well, such as The Wanderer is repining and The
Seafarer is looking back on the times he now sees as desirable. Yet as reading these poems, I have
found more similarities than differences.
First, a similar connection these two poems share is the theme of loneliness. In The Seafarer it said,
No kinsman could offer comfort there, to a soul left drowning in desolation (Seafarer, 25 25). By his
description of drowning in desolation, it could be interpreted as suffocating with devastation, no one
can soothe his lonely soul. Corresponding to The Wanderer, My heart has closed on itself, quietly

In this quote from The Seafarer you ll see the narrator is talking in past tense. How wretched I was,
drifting through winter on an ice cold sea, whirled in sorrow, alone in a world blown clear of love,
hung with icicles (Seafarer 14 18), The Seafarer is reflecting on his life wanting to return to the sea
despite his misery. In The Wanderer the narrator is blackened, talking about how he is in need of
benefaction, Grey with mourning. Once there were men to whom my heart could hurry, not with open
longing. They re long since dead (Wanderer 9 11). The Wanderer witnessed destruction through his
life and is in deep sorrow thinking about it whereas The Seafarer is pondering about his hardlines but

The Legal Cases Of The Supreme Court
The Supreme Court is the courtroom where all the legal cases dealing with congress or the
constitution go to get a final decision. The Court is currently composed of a chief justice, eight
associate justices, and nine officers. Their main goal as members of the Supreme Court is to make sure
everything and anything abides by the constitution. It has many powers when it comes to law and
especially the constitution, but it is not overly powerful due to the other two branches of the
government. Checks and balances helps keep their powers level and just as important as the executive
and legislative branch powers. The Court has the ability to remove a law or refute anything that
violates the United States Constitution. The Supreme Court, on average, receives around 7,000 8,000
petitions for a writ of certiorari every term. The Court grants and hears oral arguments for eighty
cases. One case specifically was Printz v. United States. This case focused on dealing with background
checks when purchasing a firearm. Jay Printz deemed the provisions to the Brady Bill
unconstitutional, decided to take it to the District Courts and eventually the case ended up in the
Supreme Court, where Stephen P. Halbrook fought and won the case based on a five to four ruling in
favor of Printz. Before the Jay Printz case on the constitutionality of the provisions of the Brady Bill
went to the Supreme Court, the case went to the District Courts and the Court of Appeals. The case

The Reality Of Television Shows
This Is What The Reality Of TV Is. The popularity of reality TV shows lately do not amaze me, in the
society today, people admire excessive pride than high moral standards. A lot of shows which need to
be cancelled portray and teach a lot of bad behaviors. Although these reality TV shows may make us
laugh or even amaze us with its characters, who are bad influences to the society especially children.
These shows gives us a picture of how people are drastically driven by the love of money, fame and
riches instead of the power of love of people for each other. The indecent and improper behavior being
displayed by these characters are not to be emulated because it has a negative effect on the society,
especially on children because the promote the use of drugs, alcohol and foul languages. Reality
shows such as Jersey Shore and Real World on MTV promote nothing but alcoholism. People get
hired just to have fun, involving alcohol. People get the wrong impression of how to act and behave,
making them think that the only way to have fun is by drinking alcohol and getting drunk. Most
people in the society today believe that alcohols consumed on shows make it seem cool or fun to drink
and get drunk. A reality show producer, Kurt Reams, once said that the rate and amount at which Tv
stars consume alcohol is ridiculous that most viewers could get influenced which is a wrong idea.

My Religious Upbringing. I Am A Member Of The Church Of
My Religious Upbringing I am a member of the Church of Christ. It is a non denominational church
that lives by the New Testament in the Holy Bible, and uses the Old Testament as a source of
reference. In simple terms, it s a belief that the new law is in place and the old law has been put away
with Jesus s crucifixion. In the Old Testament, it was a command to sacrifice something for the
forgiveness of sins. Now, with the ultimate sacrifice being given for our sins (Jesus s Life) we do not
have to sacrifice no more. Instead we learn and study God s word and obey his word. I was born in

While others may not believe the same as I do, I find with the studies of the scripture, I feel I am
going to a church that follows the New Testament to the best of its ability. Just like every human being
everything has its faults, but I still believe we are still going to work the rest of our lives to try and
obtain the perfection that Jesus Christ had. I really started studying the differences in churches at the
age of sixteen, but by the age of twenty I had slacked off and started to drift away from the church
because of the troubles I had brought on myself. This is also the reason I m in college at the age of
thirty two and not holding a degree in my hand yet. In this paper the directions wanted a comment on
organized religion, and that depends on the definition of what people interpret organized religion. I
have heard organized religion referred to as only denominational churches and as any church that
meets regularly. The contrast between the two meanings vary deeply. For instance, I am a member of a
non denominational church that meets regularly and to me it is an organized religion. It is a church
that has been set up years ago, that has its boundaries as to where it functions. I believe without my
church I would be a lost soul. It has given me a ground to live by and

Dairy Cows Rumination Time
Rumination is influenced by various external and internal factors such as acute stress, disease, diet
composition, fodder quality, cow grouping, climatic conditions, reproduction status and other health
statuses (Calamari, et al., 2014). Studies conducted by Soriani, Panella, Calamari (2013), uncovered
differences in the rumination times of healthy and sick cows. It was identified that lower ruminations
times show signs of heath disorders. Identifying such patterns in dairy cows will enable an early
detection of diseases and in some cases will save the cow/s from death. Rumination Time data can be
also used to assess relationships to the incidence of clinical symptoms of diseases and metabolic
inflammatory indices in the blood (Soriani, Panella, Calamari, 2013). As Calving season approaches,
cows display a change in the behavioral patterns and also change in rumination patters. Conditions
associated with calving kill 31% of the dairy cattle worldwide (Menzies , Bryson, McCallion ... Show

the calving period, is related to various health conditions, inflammation blood markers and diseases

very accurate parameter for an early identification of metabolic disorders such as ruminal acidosis,

Cuban Economy Essay
As the largest country in the Caribbean, the opportunities for Cuba to burst onto the global business
stage are certainly promising. However, in order to effectively deal with an emerging economy, such
as Cuba, one must first dig deeper into the foundations of this country to better understand the makeup
of the country itself. While many understand Cuba s divisive history, few have truly ventured into
grasping the makeup of the island itself. Located about ninety miles south of Key West, the Republic
of Cuba is a country with a population just above 11 million people. With over 60% of the land being
devoted to agriculture, population is dense in urban areas, specifically the capital city of Havana with
77.3% of people occupying these areas7. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With a socialist government intact, Cuba stems a lot of their influence from Soviet Russia, but with
the collapse of the USSR in the early 1990s, pressure to eradicate Communist influence in Cuba has
been growing. Before Cuba was communist, the class differences in Cuba were staggering. On one
hand, the vast majority of the population was peasants who farmed small plots of land in order to
support their families. On the other side of the spectrum were sugar mill owners, who enjoyed great
wealth of prosperity and in the middle were a class of lawyers, doctors, social workers, sharecroppers,
and tenant farmers6. When Castro took over, most class divisions were eradicated as equitable
salaries, guaranteed housing, national medicine and healthcare leveled the economic gap between the
rich and the poor. However, Castro did form his own oligarchy of Communist Party members who had
access to better infrastructure and commodities than their counterparts25. As Cuba has loosened its
economic restrictions, this gap has emerged again as small private enterprises have popped up across
Cuba. With the increase in the presence of the United States dollar, luxury items have become more
accessible to citizens who possess American

Literary Review of Sexuality and Gender in Science Fiction...
Literary Review
My argument is that SF literature offers a utopian hope for the future where individual differences are
no longer criticized. To conduct this literature review I used multiple information sources to examine
issues of gender and sexuality within science fiction literature. None of these sources claim to have
produced a conclusive work on the interpretation of gender and sexuality in SF. Some of what I have
read seems to be a general overview while some is more focused, but everything clearly references
other theorists, studies and texts to back up the arguments made.

In other words feminist SF is an effective and powerful means for feminist visionary developments
that are crucial for the initial attempts to embark on the cultural and social changes that are the goals
for the feminist political enterprise. Hollinger discusses Le Guin s view that feminist SF doesn t
prophecy the future but it refers to the world as it is. This is interesting because it emphasises this idea
that the SF can explore such issues of gender and sexuality in reality.
Hollinger references works such as The Female Man, Bloodchild , The Left Hand of Darkness and
Women on the Edge of Time together with people like Donna Harraway, Teresa de Lauretis and Judith
Butler. In addition to the well known feminist utopian works of the 70 s Hollinger also mentions
Helen O Loy, which is an early masculine focused novel. We see the importance of feminist SF when
we read about works such as this, because the contrast shows that some SF writers obviously didn t
identify the historical possibility and cultural traditionalism of our notions regarding gender and
sexual identity and the roles of men and women. Hollinger brings together plenty of evidence to back
up her points about feminist theory and SF making for a comprehensive essay.

The Alaskan Way Viaduct Essay
The Alaskan Way Viaduct is connected to State Route 99 and is located on the Elliot Bay downtown

runs for about two miles. The Viaduct was designed by the City of Seattle Engineering Department
and the Washington Department of Highways, Bridge Division, and is owned by the Washington State
Department of Transportation (WSDOT). The viaduct was built between 1949 and 1966 and was the

The viaduct would add 44 percent to the effective width of Alaskan Way while deducting less than 5
percent for the strips to be occupied by support columns. (HAER).
The construction was completed in five phases so it would be less disruptive and so that the funding
for each section would be secured. The total cost for the initial three sections and the tunnel, including
the right of way, design and administration was $10,627,006. Approximately half of the funding
($5,860,625) came from the City of Seattle, with the remainder from the Washington State Motor

July 1951. Even before this was completed, construction began on the second section, from Pike
Street to King Street, and finished in August 1952. The third section began in November 1951 but was
not completed until April 1953 because of a nationwide steel strike. These three sections, extending
from Battery Street to Railroad Way/S. Dearborn Street were opened to traffic on April 4, 1953, three

Bluetooth Technology- Past, Present, And Future
Bluetooth Technology Past, Present, and Future
History
Bluetooth technology was the creation of the Bluetooth Special Interest Group. This groups was
founded by five major corporations from different countries to develop communication system that
could be used world wide. Ericsson, Nokia, IBM, Intel, and Toshiba, founded the Bluetooth Special
Interest Group (SIG) in February of 1998. (Morrow, 2002) Microsoft, 3Com, Lucent, and Motorola
later joined the group in December 1999. Now the group of nine members is called SIG Promoters.
There are no plan as of now to add any other member to the group. (Morrow, 2002)
Bluetooth is named after the 10th century Viking king Harald Blatand, who conquered all of Denmark
and Norway and converted the Danes to Christianity. (Aardsma, 2001) The king was known for his
desire to snack on blueberries and his ability to unite the warring factions that is now known as
Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. (Newstex, 2012) The idea that the blueberries caused his teeth to turn
blue is not confirmed. But his ability to unite different people groups inspired the SIG to use the name
Bluetooth.
Development
Low cost communication technology that uses little power was the reason Bluetooth was developed.
Developers wanted to be able to connect devices from different manufactures and with different
purposes, such as computers from Apple and mice from Microsoft. At low cost and a secure
connection. (Newstex, 2012) The design was to remove cables so that virtually

Nuclear Energy Synthesis Essay
Across the United States 104 nuclear reactors generate around 20% of the nation s electricity. While
worldwide 436 nuclear reactors generate about 15% of the world s supply every year (Carson). Some
people feel as though we need to expand the fleet of nuclear reactors and increase nuclear power
production. Nuclear energy may be one of the best ways to combat global warming and reduce CO2
emissions, however if the radiation and nuclear waste that it produces is better for our environment
than the CO2 is still uncertain. In the United States the nuclear power plants use uranium 235 as the
nuclear fuel to produce energy. Most of the uranium that the United States uses is found in Wyoming
and New Mexico (Nuclear Energy). U 235 is mined using methods similar to other ores. However

The spent fuel rods and the other products produced by the nuclear fuel process are highly reactive.
This waste must be stored in very safe and secure locations for tens of thousands of years, which is
periods longer than the history of most governments the world has seen as the former Atomic Energy
Commission put it (Carson). The uranium that is used in the reactors has a half life, that is long it

I do consider a weakness is the inability to relax myself. I am constantly going and thinking. It is hard

Dominance, Privilege, And Oppression
This week we talked about a lot about dominance, privilege, and oppression. In lecture, we started by
talking about the differences between dominate individuals and subordinate individuals. These
differences are extremely prevalent when it comes to men and women. Men have access to power,
economic control, and this larger idea of privilege, whereas women are always at a disadvantage. They
have a lack of power and influence. This also applies to difference races. When we did the activity
about the different stereotypes of different races and genders, it was surprising how easy it was for us
to list of all of these terrible stereotypes. This is a huge issue in our society. I really liked the activity
because it did force us to think about all

Essay on A Hero
A Hero What is a hero? Is it a rock star or an athlete? A famous speaker or activist? Or is it someone
so ordinary that does extraordinary things? A hero can be someone who loves and cares for you, or
someone you look up to. Someone that risks their life for others is definitely a hero, that someone is
Oskar Schindler. Oskar is a hero to over 6,000 Jews currently living across the United States and
Europe. Schindler was an normal man with an unreal power that he used to save 1200 human lives
during the Holocaust of World War II. What was his motivation for saving so many Jews? More ...

What would posses someone to use their power and money by risking their own life? How did he do
it? It wasn t easy.
Schindler started saving Jews in 1939, when he came to Krakow during the German invasion. Looking
for his own power in Krakow he opened up a small enamel shop near the Jewish ghetto. He employed
mainly Jewish workers, which saved them from being deported to Labour camps. In 1942 Schindler
found out through some of his workers that many of the local Jews were being sent to the brutal
Plazow labour camp. Schindler had connections with the German government, which came in handy.
He convinced the S.S. and the Armaments Administration to let Schindler set up a portion of the camp
in his factory. He then took the unfit and unqualified for work, which spared 900 Jewish lives.
In October of 1944 he approached the Russian army to receive permission to re establish his once
defunct business as an armament production company in Bruunlitz. After negotiating with S.S.
officials Schindler was allowed to take some Jews with him. He took 700 Jews from the Grossrosen
camp, and 300 women from Auschwitz. These workers were given the best food, clothing, shelter and
medical care that Schindler could afford. He then heard that a train of evacuated Jews from the
Golezow camp were stranded nearby. Schindler once again pulled some

While we sleep, our brains are able to play out scenes in...
While we sleep, our brains are able to play out scenes in our mind through our dreams. However,
dreaming does not fully expose our cognitive potential. We are only able to watch those scenes while
dreaming rather than fully participate. Lucid dreaming gives us not only the ability to participate in
our dreams, but allows us to determine what will happen in them and manipulate the entire plot. Lucid
dreaming is defined as the experience of dreaming with consciousness and awareness that one is
dreaming (Melton 940). For a dream to be lucid, the dreamer must realize that they are not in reality or
the physical world, but that they are in a dream. Once this realization occurs, the dreamer is able to do
whatever they want and manipulate the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet the sleep, as I am confidently to state, is undisturbed, deep, and refreshing. Van Eeden kept all of
his research is his dream journal, where he kept note of all his dreams, particularly his lucid dreams. In
his journals, he described how he was able to run experiments while dreaming by trying to break glass
with a stone. When the glass would not break, he knew that he was in a fake world. Van Eeden s
reports led to further sleep and dream research. A major change in dream research came during the
1950 s with the discovery of the REM cycle. (LaBerge 29 31) Rapid eye movement (REM) was
discovered in 1953, when Nathaniel Kleitman and Eugene Aserinsky were studying sleep deprivation
in children. Aserinsky noticed that the children s eyes began quickly darting as they began to lose
attention and fall asleep, which was much different from the slow eye movement present at sleep
onset. The fast movement was comparable to when someone is awake. Further research showed that
during sleep, periods of highly coordinated eye movement is accompanied by distinct brain wave
patterns, irregular breathing, and increased heart rate. This proved that the brain does not shut off
when a person falls asleep and turn back on in the morning. REM is a series of cycles at consistent
points during the night when the brain becomes very active. During a typical night of sleep, an adult
follows the regular alteration cycle of REM and NREM, non rapid eye movement. There are four
stages of

Bubonic Plague Dbq
Introduction The Black Death, also known as the Bubonic plague, was a serious pandemic that killed
more than one third of Europe s population. Between 1347 1352, the Black Death had reportedly
killed more than 20 million people. The plague originated from Asia before traveling throughout
Europe and the Mediterranean by fleas infested rats transported through ships. The infested ships had
then landed in European ports such as the following: Genoa, Venice, Messina, and other more. Thus,
the starting the pandemic by the spreading of the highly contagious bacterial infection disease around
Europe along with their imports and exports. Before the Black Death, Europe was already facing
difficulties with the growing population. Due to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before the Black Death, the church was already declining from the hierarchy statues as each country
became secular from the church. It should be noted that Europeans did not decline in their faith in God,
but rather a decline in their confidence in the ability of the institution of the Church. The church were
guilty of abusing their power and influence Catholics to become more aggressive towards others who
were non Catholic. The church would perform public flogging towards non Catholic missionaries from
passing through countries and preaching their religion. They would then encourage violence towards to
Jewish citizens as they were blamed for cause of the Plague.Other Catholics, in fear of their sins
would perform self flagellation as they worried that they will be infected with the plague. This would
lead the idea that the church would use the Black Death as an scapegoat since they were losing power
and faith from the people. The church abuse of power were the reasons why they had lost

Mythology In Japanese Mythology
Ancient civilizations have used various tactics, such as pictographs or writing systems, to document
important events. However, only few civilizations have actually used mythology to write about the
truth , one of them being the people of the ancient Japanese civilization. The truth is a representation
of how each civilization views the beginning of the world and how it affects the civilization today.
Although some parts of mythology seem outrageous and clearly not based on scientific fact, there are
evidences that prove some events mentioned within mythologies have actually happened seen in
present day Japan. Japanese mythologies have incorporated historical truth into their mythologies.
This is important because understanding the past allows for cultural development in the future. Chris
Kincaid, an accredited blogger on the Japan Powered website, states: Like all mythology, it was
considered factually true and Truth through most of history (1). This means that the purpose of the
mythologies, such as the Kojiki and Nihongi, was to report factual evidence while speculating how the
world came to be. The use of mythology was a mechanism used as a means to engage the common
man and help come up with explanations to things that were not proven by scientific fact. As long as
the essential focus is on the recording of the political policies of the mythologies, then everything
begins to align because of the apparent effects and evidences in the present day Japan. By connecting

Thesis For Nosferatu
Rhetorical Outline
Proposition: The film Nosferatu was a key step in establishing the modern standard of the vampire as
an icon of horror.
Audience: Persons with a high level of interest in the history and development of film, specifically
vampire or German Expressionist film. The book discusses how Nosferatu is an important milestone
in cinematic history for its pioneering in both the creation of the vampire icon and its use of cutting
edge film techniques, so people with an advanced interest in the history of film would find this book
appealing. Additionally, it holds a lot of important analysis for students required to study Nosferatu,
and provides insight to the significance of the film that they would not have otherwise had.
Genre: Scholarly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She discusses how Weimar Cinema came to be and how it did so well financially, moves onto the
introduction of Expressionism into film from its origin in theater and painting, and finally describes
the characteristics of Expressionism in Cinema as opposed to other artforms. From there, she
discusses how the various members of the Prana cinema team came together and how their expertise
contributed to the movie, how they prepared the masses for Nosferatu, and how they presented the
movie. However, she provides the counterpoint of how Florence Stoker s lawsuit against the Prana
film company damaged the movie s reputation and popularity. From there she describes how the plot
of Nosferatu follows the pattern established by Noel Carroll in Philosophy of Horror of an onset
phase, a discovery phase, a confirmation phase, and a confrontation phase. As the chapter progresses,
Massaccesi s description of the plot includes lengthy and in depth analyses of each character in terms
of their interactions with each other and with the setting(s). From there she considers the significance
of various aspects of the film in relation to the film s events and characters, such as camera angles and
symbolic imagery, She also discusses the significance of other aspects of the film in relation to the
sociopolitical situation in Germany and Europe as a whole, applying themes such as the defeat of a
tyrannical villain figure or the supernatural wonder associated with Romantic artwork.
Rhetorical Strategies: Massaccesi uses a more expository and frank structure, opting to be very
informative and direct with the content of her book. In every section of the chapters, she has a very
clear pattern of making a claim, providing an example, and connecting the two via

Simplifying Expressions
While working on this problem I learned a lot about basic properties of addition and multiplication,
such as distributive property, inverse property, commutative properties, etc. What s common about
these problems is the order in which we are going to do the steps. The first step will always be to
remove the parenthesis, which uses the distributive property. Second will always be combining like
terms and adding related coefficients what we have been working on this week which is dealing with
real numbers.
Here is the solution to the first problem:
2a(a 5)+ 4(a 5)
=2aa+2a( 5)+4a 4β‹…5
=2a^2 10a+4a 20
=2a^2 6a 20
The steps used to simplify this equation are as follows:
First I remove all of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although I still have parentheses in the equation, they are only there to emphasize the negative
numbers.
20.05(0.3m+35n) 0.8( 0.09n 22m) =0.05β‹…0.3m+0.05β‹…35n 0.8β‹…( 0.09n) 0.8β‹…( 22m)
The second step is to figure out the correct coefficients:
0.05β‹…0.3m+0.05β‹…35n 0.8β‹…( 0.09n) 0.8β‹…( 22m)=0.015m+1.75n+0.072n+17.6m
The final step is to find the like terms and then combine them to obtain the simplified form:
0.015m+1.75n+0.072n+17.6m=17.615m+1.822n
The expression is now fully simplified to 17.615m+1.822n
In all three problems in this problem set, I learned how to simplify algebraic expressions using
distributive property and commutative property. In the second problem I used the inverse property of
addition. I noticed that the third problem was different from the first and second problems, in that in
the third problem there were no integer numbers. This whole section is about real numbers so this
problem set teaches us how to operate using both integer and non integer real

  • 2. Outcome Of Two Major Railroad Strikes 1. Identify and describe the outcome of two major Railroad Strikes. The two major Railroad Strikes were the Great Railroad Strike of 1877 and Railroad Shop workers Strike of 1922. The Great Railroad Strike of 1877, was due to workers not being happy about the pay cuts that were being made by their employer so often. Northern Railroads began cutting salaries and wages. Because of various railroads cutting wages by 10% back to back, workers were not willing to continue working under those conditions. Not only were the wages of the workers being cut, the amount work of work given to the employees increased and the employer did not hire additional workers. This then caused railroad employees to respond by taking control of the rail yard switches, and blocking movement of trains. Throughout various cities such as Baltimore, Pittsburg, St. Louise, and Chicago, Violent acts began to occur. Many people died throughout the cities. The strike cause the country s commerce to become paralyzed and pushed governors in different states to utilize militia members to reopen rail traffic. This action also helped set the stage for violence that would occur later in the 1880s and 1890s. The Railroad Shop Workers Strike of 1922 affected everyone in the country. This strike occurred because of the pay cut of seven cents to the wages of the railroad workers. Approximately 400,000 rail shop workers from various unions were on strike because the cut was announced by the railroad labor board. When ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Culture Is The Sum Total Of Ways Of Living Built Up By A... What is culture? Culture has a very broad definition. But in terms of anthropology, culture is the sum total of ways of living built up by a group of human beings and transmitted from one generation to another (www.dictionary.com). Culture is learned, it is passed on from many generations. What is gender? Gender is either the male or female division of a species, especially as differentiated by social and cultural roles and behavior. However, gender plays a big role in culture all around the world. In this analysis essay I will be analyzing how males and females are raised with differences in third world countries compared to the western culture of the United States. What are the roles that males and females have? In countries such as India, Pakistan, China, there is still a lot of controversy about how a male and female should be treated. It has a lot to do with culture and tradition. Some of these cultural traits have been passed down from generations and are still around which some people follow. Some may consider it double standards and others may think that it is the norm. So how is gender related to culture? In society it is expected that the women and men behave a certain way. The gender disparities are shaped and formed by culture. It is better explained by Jyotirmaya Tripathy who wrote the article How Gendered is Gendered Development? Culture, Masculinity, and Gender Differences , she explains that though there has been some modernity in third ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Between John F Kennedy And Martin Luther King Jr The Declaration of Independence clearly states that all men are created equal yet many African Americans were denied equal liberty because of the color of their skin. Due to this unfit justice a small group of gallant men began a long struggle to reshape a nation based on their view of equality. Among these men, two stood out the most; John F Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr. Both were known to many as inspirational and significant leaders of the Civil Rights Movement, whom invested their power and belief towards equality. Three key events that led to the enactment of the Civils Right Act of 1964 include John F. Kennedy s 1963 Civil Rights speech, Martin Luther King s I Have a Dream speech, and the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Lastly, these events ended public segregation and led to employment equality for all regardless of their skin color. • 6. Character Analysis Of To Build A Fire By Jack London It was a clear day, and yet there seemed an intangible pall over the face of things, a subtle gloom that made the day dark, and that was due to the absence of the sun. Throughout Jack London s To Build a Fire there is a sense of slow burning dread as readers are introduced to the man and his gradual, but inevitable death, brought upon by himself. London s short story opens with the main character, a man, foolishly embarking on the long journey back to camp in the freezing Yukon, accompanied only by a husky mix. It is in this unforgivingly harsh weather that the man meets his fate, at his own hand. From the beginning of the story, the man displays flawed behaviors and personality traits that render him unable to survive on his solo journey in the Yukon, becoming his own worst enemy. One of the most prominent facets of the man s personality is his overwhelming arrogance. The man is a newcomer to the Yukon territory or chechaquo , and is inexperienced in the customs of the land. The man believes that he will be unaffected by the harsh conditions and does not seem to grasp the grave reality of the situation. This characteristic is displayed early in the story, when the man rebuffs the old timer s warning advice and later mocks the old man and his caution of the danger of traveling in the freezing temperatures, especially without a partner. Those old timers are rather womanish, some of them, he thought (1210). Despite the likelihood that the old timer has spent his lifetime in the area, the man considers his advice to be weak and believes, arrogantly, that he is superior in his masculinity and abilities. Eventually, the man realizes that he should have listened to the words of the old man in Sulphur Creek. Further, the man s arrogance is displayed again when he ignores the warning signs that the environment is not suitable for such a long solo trek. Despite the incredible cold, the man fails to comprehend just how miniscule he is compared to nature. ...the absence of sun from the sky, the tremendous cold, and the strangeness and weirdness of it all made no impression on the man (1205). It is this arrogance that limits the man s ability to grasp how insignificant his life is compared to the great power of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Gullah Or Sea Island Creole English Background information about the African languages that contributed to Gullah. Gullah (or Geechee or Sea Island Creole English) formed separately on the Sea Islands off the coast of the Carolinas, Georgia, and Florida throughout the 18th and 19th centuries among enslaved Western Africans. They developed a language that combined grammatical, phonological, and lexical features of the non standard English varieties spoken by white slaveholders and farmers in that region of the United States along with those from numerous Western and Central African languages. According to this view, Gullah developed separately, or distinctly, from African American English and varieties of English spoken in the South. Why was English first introduced? English was first introduced in these sea islands and surrounding areas due to the large amount of West African slaves that were taken from their home country that had many different dialects (Wolof, Malinke, Mandinka, Bambara to name a few). Due to the difference in dialects a similar language was needed for them communicate so English was used as it was a prevalent and accessible language commonly spoken by slaveholders. The Southern American English Variety. Gullah developed from Southern American English. Which originated from a combination of immigrants from the British Isles, who moved to the American South in the 17th and 18th centuries, and from prior creole or post creole speech of African slaves. Very similar to the take that eventually surfaced on Coda , it pummels along in friendly conjunct legato form, live in the studio style. This is clearly a consonant harmony, exemplifying verse and chorus form. Robert Plant s vocal mix set can be detected after the Pink carnation and a pick up truck line. From that point he accompanies Jimmy Page s delightful fortissimo solo adding, I don t care what they say, I love you anyway, I ll drive you wild . Like most of these Polar mixes, instead of fading out; the homophonic track grinds to a halt with a tinkling of John Paul Jones electric piano played mezzo forte. The version of Fool In The Rain, played in major key show this composition nearing its completed verse and chorus mix. Some of the studio banter retained from Polar demonstrates the fun atmosphere that the four were working in. • 18. A Comprehensive Analysis Of Davidson s Article,... In Mark Davidson s article, Displacement, Space and Dwelling: Placing Gentrification Debate , he cites several contemporary case studies where certain deteriorated areas have been targeted for redevelopment and subsequent evictions have taken place. Using several philosophical authors, such as Heidegger and Lefebvre, Davidson s focuses on the effect spatial metaphors have on displacement, and how these concepts tie into the conceptualization of space. In this paper I will compile a thorough summary of the article and formulate a comprehensive analysis of Davidson s arguments as well as his sources. Davidson begins his article with arguably one of the most notable and recent subjects of gentrification, 1520 Sedgwick, the birthplace of Hip Hop. This dilapidated apartment building s owners announced they planned to leave New York State s Mitchell Lama programe (pg. 2), which would result in the current residents evictions. Essentially the program offered tax incentives to building owners who limit equity to maintain low cost units. However, in lieu of tax incentives many building owners have elected to leave the program in order to make more profit via higher costing units, which current residents cannot afford. In the case of 1520 Sedgwick current and former residents, such as the credited father of Hip Hop Kool Herc, have veiled their mission to prevent the gentrification process from consuming their building by petitioning for a historic listing as well as offering to ... Who he is, where his stance on the subject is, his motives, and techniques that were used to open the readers mind to understand his perspective on Genesis one. The author of the book, John H. Walton was a professor at Moody bible institute for thirty years before becoming the current professor of Old Testament at Wheaton College. The question that Walton asks is, in what way should we interpret the story of Genesis? His primary focus throughout the novel is to show how the seven days of genesis compare to the cosmic temple inauguration explained by Walton as the cosmos is being it s functions as God s temple, where he has taken up his residence and from where he runs the cosmos pg. 161. He compares with the book of Genesis to these texts to prove how his interpretation is the most reasonable. Walton includes a great amount of quotes from many credible sources that include scientific theories, ancient near eastern text and sources from the bible as well to prove his thesis. The most important examples of this would be the theory of evolution, which can still be an act of God using Walton s cake model , a Sumerian text of Gudea s construction of a temple shows the temple serving a cosmic function, and examples from the bible which include the use of day by God when regarding to light, this gives the term a functional sense instead of the materialistic meaning of ... • 20. The First World War Was A Time Of Huge Change For Technology The first world war was a time of huge change for technologies and many innovations were made. The first of the three I will write about is the change of machine guns and how useful and significant they were in the first world war. On the one hand, machine guns could be said to be significant because of the extra fire power they provided on a battlefield. It has been estimated that a machine gun creates the equivalent to anywhere between 60 to 100 rifles, depending on the source, in from one weapon. This gave an army defending a position a huge advantage over the attacking side and almost certainly prolonged the stalemate as breaking enemy lines became so difficult as reaching the enemy trench was a near impossible thing to do with the machine gun firing at the attacking men. It has been estimated that around 20% of the casualties of world war 1 were caused by the machine gun. and This figure is very high considering all the possible causes of death in the battlefields of WW1. What also made the machine gun of the first world war significant was how it affected the future. These early models were the basis of a weapon used in all places of the world ever since these first guns were used in the before and mainly during the first world war. The first world war was the period that caused the potential of the machine gun to be recognised. Germany saw the machine gun for the potential it held before the war and had far more of them. In The Seafarer, an old man is reflecting upon his life as a sailor. He described his personal burdens of being on sea but he does find beauty in it. But as in The Wanderer, a warrior is upon the ocean searching for comfort as he mourns the loss of his loved ones and society. It is well understood that they have the feeling of loneliness in common as well as the importance in sharing a connection with God. But there are differences as well, such as The Wanderer is repining and The Seafarer is looking back on the times he now sees as desirable. Yet as reading these poems, I have found more similarities than differences. First, a similar connection these two poems share is the theme of loneliness. In The Seafarer it said, No kinsman could offer comfort there, to a soul left drowning in desolation (Seafarer, 25 25). By his description of drowning in desolation, it could be interpreted as suffocating with devastation, no one can soothe his lonely soul. The Court is currently composed of a chief justice, eight associate justices, and nine officers. It has many powers when it comes to law and especially the constitution, but it is not overly powerful due to the other two branches of the government. Checks and balances helps keep their powers level and just as important as the executive and legislative branch powers. One case specifically was Printz v. United States. This case focused on dealing with background checks when purchasing a firearm. Jay Printz deemed the provisions to the Brady Bill unconstitutional, decided to take it to the District Courts and eventually the case ended up in the Supreme Court, where Stephen P. Halbrook fought and won the case based on a five to four ruling in favor of Printz. Dairy Cows Rumination Time Rumination is influenced by various external and internal factors such as acute stress, disease, diet composition, fodder quality, cow grouping, climatic conditions, reproduction status and other health statuses (Calamari, et al., 2014). Hollinger discusses Le Guin s view that feminist SF doesn t prophecy the future but it refers to the world as it is. This is interesting because it emphasises this idea that the SF can explore such issues of gender and sexuality in reality. Hollinger references works such as The Female Man, Bloodchild , The Left Hand of Darkness and Women on the Edge of Time together with people like Donna Harraway, Teresa de Lauretis and Judith Butler. In addition to the well known feminist utopian works of the 70 s Hollinger also mentions Helen O Loy, which is an early masculine focused novel. • 40. Nuclear Energy Synthesis Essay Across the United States 104 nuclear reactors generate around 20% of the nation s electricity. While worldwide 436 nuclear reactors generate about 15% of the world s supply every year (Carson). Some people feel as though we need to expand the fleet of nuclear reactors and increase nuclear power production. Nuclear energy may be one of the best ways to combat global warming and reduce CO2 emissions, however if the radiation and nuclear waste that it produces is better for our environment than the CO2 is still uncertain. In the United States the nuclear power plants use uranium 235 as the nuclear fuel to produce energy. Most of the uranium that the United States uses is found in Wyoming and New Mexico (Nuclear Energy). U 235 is mined using methods similar to other ores. However when the uranium is mined it can expose the miners to radiation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The spent fuel rods and the other products produced by the nuclear fuel process are highly reactive. This waste must be stored in very safe and secure locations for tens of thousands of years, which is periods longer than the history of most governments the world has seen as the former Atomic Energy Commission put it (Carson). The uranium that is used in the reactors has a half life, that is long it takes for half the nuclei in the radioactive material to decay, of 10,000 years, while plutonium, another nuclear fuel, has a half life close to 25,000 (Carson). Some say that it is too much of a burden to place on future generations to be able to properly monitor and maintain waste dumps that will last 20 times the length of known civilization. As Michio Kaku put it in Nuclear Power: Both Sides The controversy surrounding [nuclear] waste boils down to one question can we trust and man made structure to isolate high level waste for tens of thousands of years given our always changing social institutions and the vagaries of war, revolutions, and social upheavals ... Esstj Strengths And Weaknesses All my friends have always called me loyal to a fault aka I would follow anyone I trust over a cliff.Whether this can be considered a strength or a weakness is up to you. Being a ESTJ it is claimed that my strengths include multiple things but the few that I believe directly apply to me are strong willed, direct, and enjoy creating order/organizing.My weaknesses as a ESTJ that I relate too are being stubborn, finding it difficult to relax, and a difficulty in expressing my emotions. Growing up shaped me into who I am today which reflects in my results as a ESTJ. Being described as strong willed is something that has been with me since I was little. To me I take this as a complement as comparatively my sister was the type of person to fly under the radar and try to be a people pleaser.I could never comprehend that because it was just not in my build to do that. I am constantly going and thinking. It is hard for me to turn off my thoughts, especially with my anxiety disorder mixed in with my personality type. I am a factual person I look at real world statistics and follow them, no dreaming of possibilities which makes it hard for me to express my emotions. In lecture, we started by talking about the differences between dominate individuals and subordinate individuals. These differences are extremely prevalent when it comes to men and women. Men have access to power, economic control, and this larger idea of privilege, whereas women are always at a disadvantage. They have a lack of power and influence. This also applies to difference races. When we did the activity about the different stereotypes of different races and genders, it was surprising how easy it was for us to list of all of these terrible stereotypes. Schindler started saving Jews in 1939, when he came to Krakow during the German invasion. Looking for his own power in Krakow he opened up a small enamel shop near the Jewish ghetto. He employed mainly Jewish workers, which saved them from being deported to Labour camps. In 1942 Schindler found out through some of his workers that many of the local Jews were being sent to the brutal Plazow labour camp. Schindler had connections with the German government, which came in handy. He convinced the S.S. and the Armaments Administration to let Schindler set up a portion of the camp in his factory. He then took the unfit and unqualified for work, which spared 900 Jewish lives. In October of 1944 he approached the Russian army to receive permission to re establish his once defunct business as an armament production company in Bruunlitz. After negotiating with S.S. officials Schindler was allowed to take some Jews with him. He took 700 Jews from the Grossrosen camp, and 300 women from Auschwitz. These workers were given the best food, clothing, shelter and medical care that Schindler could afford. He then heard that a train of evacuated Jews from the Golezow camp were stranded nearby. However, dreaming does not fully expose our cognitive potential. We are only able to watch those scenes while dreaming rather than fully participate. Lucid dreaming gives us not only the ability to participate in our dreams, but allows us to determine what will happen in them and manipulate the entire plot. Lucid dreaming is defined as the experience of dreaming with consciousness and awareness that one is dreaming (Melton 940). For a dream to be lucid, the dreamer must realize that they are not in reality or the physical world, but that they are in a dream. Yet the sleep, as I am confidently to state, is undisturbed, deep, and refreshing. Van Eeden kept all of his research is his dream journal, where he kept note of all his dreams, particularly his lucid dreams. In his journals, he described how he was able to run experiments while dreaming by trying to break glass with a stone. When the glass would not break, he knew that he was in a fake world. Van Eeden s reports led to further sleep and dream research. A major change in dream research came during the 1950 s with the discovery of the REM cycle. (LaBerge 29 31) Rapid eye movement (REM) was discovered in 1953, when Nathaniel Kleitman and Eugene Aserinsky were studying sleep deprivation in children. Aserinsky noticed that the children s eyes began quickly darting as they began to lose attention and fall asleep, which was much different from the slow eye movement present at sleep onset. The fast movement was comparable to when someone is awake. Further research showed that during sleep, periods of highly coordinated eye movement is accompanied by distinct brain wave patterns, irregular breathing, and increased heart rate. This proved that the brain does not shut off when a person falls asleep and turn back on in the morning. REM is a series of cycles at consistent points during the night when the brain becomes very active. During a typical night of sleep, an adult follows the regular alteration cycle of REM and NREM, non rapid eye movement. There are four stages of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. Mythology In Japanese Mythology Ancient civilizations have used various tactics, such as pictographs or writing systems, to document important events. However, only few civilizations have actually used mythology to write about the truth , one of them being the people of the ancient Japanese civilization. The truth is a representation of how each civilization views the beginning of the world and how it affects the civilization today. Although some parts of mythology seem outrageous and clearly not based on scientific fact, there are evidences that prove some events mentioned within mythologies have actually happened seen in present day Japan. Japanese mythologies have incorporated historical truth into their mythologies. This is important because understanding the past allows for cultural development in the future. Chris Kincaid, an accredited blogger on the Japan Powered website, states: Like all mythology, it was considered factually true and Truth through most of history (1). This means that the purpose of the mythologies, such as the Kojiki and Nihongi, was to report factual evidence while speculating how the world came to be. The use of mythology was a mechanism used as a means to engage the common man and help come up with explanations to things that were not proven by scientific fact. As long as the essential focus is on the recording of the political policies of the mythologies, then everything begins to align because of the apparent effects and evidences in the present day Japan. From there, she discusses how the various members of the Prana cinema team came together and how their expertise contributed to the movie, how they prepared the masses for Nosferatu, and how they presented the movie. However, she provides the counterpoint of how Florence Stoker s lawsuit against the Prana film company damaged the movie s reputation and popularity. From there she describes how the plot of Nosferatu follows the pattern established by Noel Carroll in Philosophy of Horror of an onset phase, a discovery phase, a confirmation phase, and a confrontation phase. As the chapter progresses, Massaccesi s description of the plot includes lengthy and in depth analyses of each character in terms of their interactions with each other and with the setting(s). From there she considers the significance of various aspects of the film in relation to the film s events and characters, such as camera angles and symbolic imagery, She also discusses the significance of other aspects of the film in relation to the sociopolitical situation in Germany and Europe as a whole, applying themes such as the defeat of a tyrannical villain figure or the supernatural wonder associated with Romantic artwork. Rhetorical Strategies: Massaccesi uses a more expository and frank structure, opting to be very informative and direct with the content of her book. • 49. 4.0 Student Essay Simplifying Expressions While working on this problem I learned a lot about basic properties of addition and multiplication, such as distributive property, inverse property, commutative properties, etc. What s common about these problems is the order in which we are going to do the steps. The first step will always be to remove the parenthesis, which uses the distributive property. Second will always be combining like terms and adding related coefficients what we have been working on this week which is dealing with real numbers. Here is the solution to the first problem: 2a(a 5)+ 4(a 5) =2aa+2a( 5)+4a 4β‹…5 =2a^2 10a+4a 20 =2a^2 6a 20 The steps used to simplify this equation are as follows: First I remove all of the ...
