Comparing Mccandless And Henry David Thoreau
In the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, The Transcendentalist believes in the openness of the human
mind to a new influx of light and power; he believes in inspiration, and in ecstasy.
And so he resists all attempts to palm other rules and measures on the spirit than its own,
( Defining Transcendentalism ). Transcendentalism, in short, is finding oneself through nature, and
since the Transcendentalist Movement of the 1800s, dozens of men have explored existential beliefs.
Likewise, Into The Wild , by Jon Krakauer, tells the story of a young man named
Christopher McCandless and his journey into the Alaskan wilderness, which parallels to Henry
David Thoreau s venture to Walden Pond in 1845. Although Thoreau and McCandless lived
generations apart, the men are connected through their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A significant part of identity is personality, and McCandless and Thoreau s personalities intertwined.
For instance, McCandless was an independent learner who did not enjoy following rules. He preferred
going about situations in an unconventional way, or followed his own methods. In college, he earned
almost perfect grades, except in psychics, where he failed because he did not follow the proper lab
format that the teacher ordered; he completed the lab as he pleased (Krakauer). Similarly, Thoreau
attended Harvard, but was not pleased with how he
Badger 2 was being taught, saying he was learning all of the branches and none of the roots, ( The
Writings of Henry David Thoreau )). Furthermore, both men were talented and could pick up most
trades: McCandless developed a computer programming system for his father, and Thoreau used his
engineering skills to help manufacture pencils ( The Writings of Henry David Thoreau ).
Continually, both men enjoyed the company of other people, but ultimately preferred

Stereotypes In Hollywood Stereotypes
A deep look into some Latino performances shows the heroes who have withstood and undermined the
stereotyping system however much they were involved in the Hollywood films where stereotyping is
accustomed. Actors have less to contribute to the authorship as they are hired and are supposed to act
wherever scene they are assigned to serve. Latino actors may not necessarily be considered Latino
enough to take part in a scene; this has become a casting practice. Worse still we have actors from
specific ethnic groups who cannot stand up and depart from stereotypes. Actor s original performance
is not appreciated in a way that during production the actor follows every instruction from makeup
artists to the director. Lack of appreciation frustrates the contribution of the film artist. Performance
should include body movement, gestures, facial expression and voice which should not make the
character disappear into actor or actor going into the character. The only way Latino actors will feature
to be less stereotypical is by embracing the true artist performance. A case to show countering
Hollywood stereotype is evident through characters like Lupe Velez s energetic in an uncontrolled way
performance, Jose Ferrer s sweet and soothing voice, and Gilbert Roland s attention capturing costume
and upright posture. We have some actors who have defied the pre assumed concept of stereotype and
have tried their best in countering stereotyping. Lupe Velez who was brought to limelight

Student Non Violent Coordinating Committee
Young people throughout history have been drawn to social movements. These social movements
often included marches and non violent protesting, but not all of them included violence at the hands
of police or nights where sleep is impossible because of fear. The young people involved in Freedom
Summer in 1964 would change the course of history, but not without significant sacrifices. Freedom
Summer or the Mississippi Summer Project was the brainchild of the Student Non Violent
Coordinating Committee or SNCC. The project had four main goals, to expand African American
voter registration, to organize a legally constituted Freedom Democratic Party that will challenge the
whites only Mississippi Democratic Party, to establish freedom schools and to open community
centers where legal and medical assistance were available. In order to achieve these goals SNCC
specifically recruited 800 white students under the age of 21. Most of the volunteers were white
students who had participated in civil rights activities in the North...The fact that the volunteers were
expected to forgo summer jobs, to pay for their own transportation, and to provide their own bond
money in the event of arrest ensured that affluent students predominated. These students joined the
already solid African American activist core in the South. The African American staff members who
worked with the white volunteers often felt ambivalent about the need for white people to be hurt
during the movement to get

Renewable Transport Fuels Obligation For The Demand Of...
The increasing industrialization and modernisation of the world has resulted in a precipitous growth
for the demand of petroleum based fuels (Agrawal, 2007). In 2014 in UK, a total of 54.2 million
tonnes of oil equivalent (mtoe) of energy was used in transportation which is nearly 40% of all of the
energy consumed (DECC, 2015, p. 8). Progressive depletion of conventional fossil fuels with
increasing energy consumption and GHG emissions have led to a move towards alternative,
renewable, sustainable, efficient and cost effective energy sources with lesser emissions (Nigama, P,
S., Singhb, A., 2011). In order to reduce carbon emissions from vehicles the UK parliament enacted

It was then amended four times in 2009, 2011, 2013 and recently in April 2015 (Department for
Transport, 2012). The RTFO s prime objective is to promote the mandatory standards for biofuel
sustainability in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) from road transport across the UK.
Under the RTFO, transport fuel suppliers in the UK must be able to show that an amount of obligated
percentages of the fuel they supply comes from renewable and sustainable sources. It also requires the
suppliers to report on the environmental performance of their biofuels (DfTa, 2015).
In addition, the diverse stakeholder engagement in RTFO was a key factor for its success. The low
Carbon Vehicle Partnership works as an umbrella for a wide spectrum of associations and actors who
have in common the pursuance of a future with cleaner cars and fuels (Sandoval, I. S., Popartan, L,
2014). It provides the environment for energy companies, government, experts, scholars as well as
consumer organizations to work together and promote market for biofuels. With the consensus of all
participants and the British government s support, the carbon and sustainability reporting framework
as well as methodology for calculating the carbon intensities of various biofuels were designed
(Chalmers, J., Archer,G., 2011). The LowCVP helps to build shared understanding and facilities the

The Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act
The Chesapeake Bay is the largest estuary in the United States. It is located on the eastern seaboard,
with the upper portion of the bay in Maryland and the lower portion in Virginia. The Chesapeake Bay
is vital to the ecology and economy of both Virginia and Maryland. There are more than one hundred
fifty rivers that flow into the bay. Within the Chesapeake Bay, there are around 2,700 species that live
there. Needless to say, this is a very important ecosystem that needs to be protected. The Chesapeake
Bay Preservation Act does just that. The Virginia General Assembly enacted the Chesapeake Bay
Preservation Act in 1988 in an effort to promote the general welfare of the people of the
commonwealth. The act is effective in 84 different localities throughout Virginia. This act was
designed to have a positive impact on water quality of the bay itself, and also water throughout
Virginia that feed into the bay. Along with improving water quality, it was designed to still allow
reasonable development to continue taking place. The act is designed around the theory that land can
be used and developed in a way that minimizes negative impacts on water quality. There is a balance
between state and local economic interests and water quality that is implemented by a cooperative
partnership between the state and Tidewater local government. This partnership helps reduce and
prevent nonpoint source pollution. The Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act is an extension of the public

Fragrance Chemists Essay
Scents
What is a Fragrance Chemist? A fragrance chemist is a researcher who conducts experiments to create
scents for household products and cosmetics. These scientists frequently work in labs creating
fragrances that will not adversely affect consumer such as making it a hypoallergenic. These scientists
test the chemical components to ensure that they do not react negatively when added to the product.
These experts have to follow the correct guidelines when handling chemicals in order to avoid the
dangers of any safety or health hazards(Ford).
To become a fragrance chemist, you must build a foundation in chemistry with a degree in chemistry,
chemical engineering, or a related field. Students can expect to take laboratory courses to obtain ...

often work long hours with deadlines, which could create stress in the workplace. Because they are
exposed to hazardous substances, they have to work carefully and wear protective clothing, often
including smocks, gloves, masks and goggles. Although chemists are trained in proper precautions,
substances can still be dangerous to their health. Explosions and unintentional poisonings in chemistry
labs have a caused in serious injuries such as blindness, and even death(Ford).
The field of fragrance chemists is moderately small and this aids to keep salaries high for uppermost

The Importance of Women Linda K. Kerber s Women of the...
When considering the American Revolution most histories fail to recognize both sides of the fight for
liberty. Men were certainly the central figures; however could they have succeeded without the
periphery support of women? In her book, Women of the Republic: Intellect and Ideology in
Revolutionary America, Linda K. Kerber explores the contribution of women to the war and
demonstrates the rising of Republican Motherhood during and following the war. Through this
ideology, women merged their traditional roles with their new sense of civic duty. In the beginning
chapters, Kerber examines women s engagement in the war effort, explores the emerging idea of
female patriotism and states the proper loyalties of married women during the time. ... Show more

At the beginning of the struggle in America, women s citizenship was not given serious consideration.
Women were invisible in the political sphere and were seen to have no capacity where politics were
concerned. When the war occurred, the role of women vastly changed. They were leaders off the
battlefield. Women began to question their role in the political arena. Could a woman have a political
thought? Could women be patriots? Must a wife s political loyalty be the same as her husband s? Once
the Revolution succeeded, these questions were pushed away. Women had played the role of
Republican Mother and completed their duty in helping the war effort, they did not need a more
significant political role. Although women realized they had the potential to have a political mind,
Kerber uses the legal processes of confiscation, coverture, and divorce to explain how women s
political identities were still tied to the role of wife. The American Revolution was a fight for liberty
and freedom, unless you were a woman. As long as those three processes remained intact women
would not gain freedom. In her next chapter, Kerber examines the newfound need for the educating of
women. Women were not allowed freedom or a political opinion, but they could not be completely
pushed aside. For years women had been taught that education made them undesirable to men and
educated women were scorned. Kerber argues that a new need for

Early Automobiles . Vehicles Have Changed Over Time Like
Early Automobiles Vehicles have changed over time like many other things, but the engine that
powers these vehicles has gone through the most changes. The internal combustion engine has become
a huge part in everyday life. These engines have allowed people to travel across the country, generate
electricity, and fly around the world. This engine has been a perpetual source of exploration ever since
Henry Ford mass produced the first Model T. Automobiles have evolved over time along with many
other things; there are many fundamentals to learn about how the engine works, different types of
engines, and the history of the gas engine. The first thing to learn is how the basic engine works.

7). The combustion increases the temperature of the exhaust gases, any residual air in the combustion
chamber, and the combustion chamber itself. From the ideal gas law, the increased temperature of the
gases also produces an increased pressure in the combustion chamber; the high pressure of the gases
acting on the face of the piston cause the piston to move to which initiates the power stroke (para. 8).
Unlike the compression stroke, the hot gas does work on the piston during the power stroke. The force
on the piston is transmitted by the piston rod to the crankshaft, where the linear motion of the piston is
converted to angular motion of the crankshaft. Hall s article for NASA states that the work done on the
piston is then used to turn the shaft (para. 8). Having produced the igniting spark, the electrical contact
remains opened. During the power stroke, the volume occupied by the gases is increased because of
the piston motion and no heat is transferred to the fuel/air mixture (para. 9). As the volume is
increased because of the piston s motion, the pressure and temperature of the gas are decreased. Heat
that is left over from the power stroke is now transferred to the water in the water jacket until the
pressure approaches atmospheric pressure; the

Comparing The Man He Killed And The White City
Claude McKay and Thomas Hardy both clarify in their stories a feeling of choosing what they are
doing with their life and the circumstance that they are in. In The Man He Killed the storyteller is
befuddled and in dismay of what he has done and why he must be in a circumstance of executing
another man in any case as he said he could have most likely of been great companions with the other
person if things were distinctive, perhaps. In The White City the storyteller has a filled contempt for
the white world and being placed in a position where he supposes the main reason he is not a skeleton

The storyteller is in a situation where African Americans are thought to a lower standard than the

they are still given indications of dangers by the whites who don t need break even with rights, yet the
storyteller expresses that he would not twist an inch of be toyed with as he will continue pushing

will continue pushing ahead regardless. On the off chance that it were not for his searched out disdain

Early Ottoman Medicine
Early Ottoman Medicine ranged from the 16th century to the 18th century but unlike most places of
the time, its medicinal knowledge was not isolated. The Ottomans had a very diverse body of
knowledge and based their practices on ideas from all around the world. The knowledge came from
the traditions of medieval Islam and central Asia. They also collected information from many sources
such as Greek, Persian and Turkish books. When it came to immigrants, Ottomans always had open
arms. By doing this, they were able to collect information from Iranian physicians and Jews who were
running from persecution in countries such as Spain, Portugal and Italy. The Ottomans collected
information from all around the world, helping them implement the most advanced and up to date
practices. However, not all of their practices were advanced. In early Ottoman medicine there was a
wide range of medical practices ranging from those deemed superstitious and supernatural to practices
considered extremely advanced. Some Ottoman physicians practiced advanced methods but they did
not come from advanced beliefs. The beliefs of Humoralism, one of the three types of medicine
practiced at the time would today be laughed at. Humoralists believed that the body was made up of
four humors: blood, phlegm, black bile and yellow bile. They believed that sickness would be caused
by an imbalance of these humors. To heal the sick person it was necessary to find what humor was

Campus Molds Advantages And Disadvantages
Moving in as a freshman is great. You are excited, everyone helps you move in, and it goes by fast.
Moving out after freshman year is another story. The move out process is tiring, no one helps you, and
it takes forever. The young men who started Campus Crates felt these same feelings for move in and
move out of college. Their solution to the problem was creating a moving and storage company that
caters to college students. Campus Crates was started by two students both named Ryan after their
freshman year of college at Baylor University. The company became an LLC in 2016 and started
moving students that summer (Leland, 2016). Campus Crates goal is to make the lives of parents and
students easier by relieving the inconvenience and expense of moving to and from college. Campus
Crates is an on demand storage service that only requires you to register, pay, schedule a time for
boxes to be dropped off, and then pack the boxes at your own convenience. Then they will pick up
your belongings, store it in a secure facility, and then return your belongings to your new residence
(Mycampuscrates.com, 2017). Although Campus Crates was established in 2016, their concept has
proven to be successful.
Strengths
There are no other companies near the Baylor area that offer what Campus Crates offers. This fact
allows Campus Crates to have a competitive advantage over other storage companies. Campus Crates
is the only company that delivers packing supplies, picks up packed boxes, stores boxes

Old Age And The Process Of Aging
This paper argues that gerontology, the study of old age and the process of aging, have overlooked
gender inequality within policies of patriarchal structures, and within the ideologies of western
capitalist society. This is a major source of women s social and economic powerlessness in old age.
Ray (1996) explains feminist gerontology as a connection between feminism and gerontology
focusing on gender and gender relations. Feminist gerontology deals with populations of both women
and men, and through the connection between gender, conclusions in research on women are drawn
from building upon research based on men (Calasanti, 2004). Patriarchal structure of western society
still maintains the core preference of traditional gender roles, which lead to familiar results in old age.
The manifestation of this ideology can be seen in advertisement in media and again repeated within
institutions of political and educational domains. Its ability to take several forms produces the root of
issues of inequality in old age and difficulty women face compared to men. Gender, within research of
gerontology is relatively recent in its consideration in exploring the experience of elderly in western
society (Wray, 2003). Therefore, differentiating between genders is done through describing the
obstacles that women face in old age compared to men, such as gap in life expectancy, where women
tend to live longer than men (Backes et al., 2006). Their prolonged lifespan in comparison to men

The Impact Of Movie Release On Tourism Demand Over Countries
THE IMPACT OF MOVIE RELEASE ON TOURISM DEMAND OVER COUNTRIES:
EMPIRICAL ANALYSIS OF THAILAND TOURISM INDUSTRY
Saisang Apichatvorapong (Management)
Directed by Yeujun Yoon
ABSTRACT
The main purpose of this thesis is to find out more information about the impacts of movie release that
has on the tourism demand in Thailand. Since it has been proved that movies can influence tourists to
visit a location shown in the movies (Riley Van Doren, 1992), this paper will estimate the number of
tourist arrivals from movies that has the filming locations in Thailand and released overseas based on
the main economic factors such as gross domestic product (GDP), distance, and relative price, which
are often used in the tourism demand equation. Seeing that the Thai tourism industry performs an
important role in the national economy, accurate estimates of inbound tourism from movie induced
tourism can deliver useful information for both the government and private sectors working in these
areas.
Secondary data were collected for this study, where we based on 42 countries from the year between
1997 to 2014. The study employs an econometric model of tourism demand and estimated using the
method of Ordinary Least Squares (OLS).
The result shows that 2 out of the 4 hypotheses were supported. As expected, it indicates that movie
release and GDP are positively related to tourist arrivals, while distance and relative prices are
negatively related to tourist arrivals. Hence, the higher the number

Hurricane Katrina was a devastating event that left massive destruction in the Gulf coast of America
from Florida to Texas. It is recorded as the most cost devastating disaster in American history and
ranked third as the most catastrophic tropical cyclone in United States behind the Labor Day
Hurricane of 1935 and the Hurricane Camille of 1969. Much of this devastation was caused by failure
of storm surge and levee put in place for protection against these natural disasters. Two thirds of
deaths in New Orleans were attributed to these failures. Designers and builders of this system were
made responsible for its failure since they used shortcuts to save on funds. The devastation that

Another practice or thing that comes along side Pentecostalism is often revivals. Revivals are what
started the Pentecostal movement. There are three different waves that took place from the 20th

denominations of Christians experienced these revivals. Anywhere from the Catholics to John Calvin,
to the Quakers experienced some sort of dramatic move from the Holy Spirit. Pentecostalism was

From my research and what I have heard a revival seems amazing and very positive for the Christian
faith. These revivals are breaking out all over the world and transforming unbelievers to Christ
followers. The revivals are creating an environment to welcome God in their midst. It is a positive
thing because it gives God room to be free and work in the ways he wants to. Too many churches
today are extremely structured. The excessive amount of structure can prevent God from moving and
doing what he wants. I think there are positives in revivals being a movement and not a denomination.
Now we see the main denominations that part take are Pentecostal/Charismatic churches. With the rich
history of revivals it still has an open invitation for all different denominations. For example some
Catholic churches take place in these revivals. Any one is welcome to participate in a revival. A
negative thing about revivals can be if people get too caught up in the experience. The experience of
God is a huge part of the revival, but if that is all the large group of people are focus on it can be

The Toursim Industry in South Africa
The tourism industry is a vast growing trade that in recent years has seen a significant increase in its
contribution to the GDP (Gross Domestic Product) of various respective countries. South Africa is one
of the countries that have witnessed tremendous growth in its tourism industry. As much as such
development is a very welcomed phenomenon for any country, growth and development is limited by
a number of constraints. Of importance to this particular study is the issue of seasonality in the
tourism industry.
Seasonality is defined as the fluctuation of situations that has a direct effect on one or more variables.
(McCarthy 1994:275).According to an article by strathprints journals (www.stathprints/journals, 25
April) seasonality in tourism has traditionally been regarded as a major problem which needs to be
overcome, but relatively little research has been conducted on the patterns or causes of this
phenomenon.
The question this study aims to unfold is:
What effect does the seasonal nature of the tourism industry have on the providers of components of
the tourism industry, as well as on unemployment in Mbombela?
The aims and objectives of the study are:
To investigate the negative effects seasonality has on the tourism industry in Mbombela.
To highlight the differences in the rates of employment associated with different points within the
seasonal cycle.
To highlight the internal changes enforced by service providers in the tourism industry as a result of

Gender Roles And Social Cognitive Theory
Women model their behavior after the female protagonists they see in films because they see them
being successful in love and wish for the same. Women modeling this behavior are an example of
social cognitive theory. In the 1980s, this theory was expanded by film theorists who drew from
different fields and since then many studies have been conducted to see how films influence society
(Nannicelli). Stereotypes in film influences society in the ways it portrays romance, explained by
social cognitive theory; movies give a false illusion for women to believe and unrealistic expectations
of men and relationships.
The social cognitive theory suggests that people who watch romantic comedies glean some
understanding from the films by observing the actors behavior and take away from it how they should
behave in their own relationships. Due to the unrealistic modeling of behavior that the media gives
society, following this example cannot possibly bring a desirable outcome. Hollywood s goal is to
entertain their viewers and make them fall in love with the story and characters, but viewers often don
t realize this and after watching a romantic movie have a longing for fairy tale love. Hollywood has
created an unrealistic and unattainable love. Therefore, when women model their ideals for a
relationship off of the romantic comedy genre, they are highly disappointed, ultimately causing
themselves to once again go back to living vicariously through the characters (Green).

Archetypes Of The Odyssey
Archetypes of The Odyssey
Ancient Greece was full of mystery. They told of mystical, almost supernatural, heroes and monsters.
One such story was told of a warrior named Odysseus. A king who ruled over the kingdom of Ithaca,
but sadly left for war, leaving both his family, and his kingdom. Fighting for almost a decade,
Odysseus set off on a long journey towards home. Through thick and thin, and through all of the
bloodshed and fighting, he finally has a happy ending at home. At what cost though? His men, his
ship, himself? Odysseus was put into the category of a hero, one of the many archetypes modern
readers use to identify main characters and all other concepts in literature. All heroes experience the

Odysseus exemplify the extremes of his trial (Richardson pg. 1). He understands that he could die
during his travel towards home. During the Scylla encounter, he could ve easily been one of the six
that died being consumed by Scylla. Odysseus views his potential death to be the greatest testament to
his dedication to his cause. The Odyssey is well know throughout the world since it contains the many
adventures of Odysseus, Every hero undergoes a quest for which he achieves a place in the literary
pantheon of his homeland (Harris pg. 1). Almost everyone has heard of Homer s legendary, greek epic
poem The Odyssey. Many people study for the greek origin, looking at how the greeks viewed the
natural leader and hero, and many just read for the fun of it. Either way, the poem will be remembered
for many generations for now on. The story can t be complete without the antagonist though.
The villain, or in this poem, the various monsters on this are the antagonists of this story. They show

The Problem Of Abusive Relationships
I would first like to start off by saying that this has been a very difficult topic for me. That is why I
have waited until the last minute to post this week. It has only been a year since I have left my
fourteen year abusive marriage. I hide the abuse from all of my friends and family. When you are in
the situation you do not realize how bad it is until you are almost dead or in jail. An abusive
relationship is like a leaking faucet that starts with a slow drip and over time the slow drip has become
a flooded house because the pipe has finally broke. First comes the fight, then comes the violent
episode, then the honeymoon phase after the violent episode. The make up sex was so intense. He
would love to hit me then make me have sex with him. He would say it is such a turn on. He would
always say I cannot believe I did that. I am so sorry it will never happen again. Sometimes months
would go buy even years but it would always start back up. I will say that the emotional abuse I
suffered was far worse than the physical abuse. I would rather my ex hit me than tell me that I was a
pathetic, dumb bitch that didn t deserve to be alive. I am in therapy and supports groups right now and
they are helping me get a better understanding of why I stayed and how to never be in a situation like
that again. I am a work in progress and I am happy to say I am alive and I am finding my happy again.

Vinegar Lab
Introduction Research: In this lab I are used agar combined with alkali and placed in vinegar to
simulate how long it takes cells with a larger surface area to volume ratio to transport a material in and
out of their cell. In the lab I will answer the following: Why are cells so small? What aspect
determines how big a cell can be and still function?
For a cell to obtain substance, the substance needs to go across the cell membrane. The volume of the
cell determines its metabolism. Cells with large volume need more materials for them to survive
because they have a large surface area.Cells use diffusion to get materials in and out the cell. Cells that
have a large surface area can diffuse more materials in their cells.
Hypothesis:
If ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The diffusion occurred because the alkali in the agar cubes reacts to the vinegar causing the the cubes
to turn yellow from green. The lab displayed how cells would diffuse materials in their membrane.
The agar with largest ratio sized at 0.5 centimeters changed colors at 1.33 minutes while the agar with
the smallest ratio with size of 2.0 centimeters changed colors at 38.2 minutes. This data supports my
hypothesis because it shows that agar smallest ratio took the longest time for it to change colors. From
my observations of the agar in the vinegar, I can conclude that cells with a smaller surface area to
volume ratio would be less efficient at diffusing materials than a cell with a larger one. I can infer that
cells are small because it is efficient for the cell to get materials in and out of the cell and to carry out
their processes while in larger cell their processes would take a longer time because the cell has more

Topology, Infrastructure, And Network
Topology Infrastructure While category 5 enhanced (CAT 5e) is the current standard for network
connections, the ABC Company is looking to expand in the future. With this in mind, category 6
enhanced (CAT 6e) is recommended for the proposed cabling infrastructure. While CAT 5e provides
good electromagnetic interference (EMI) protection, it only has a limit of 1 gigabit transmission
speed. CAT 6e, provides EMI protection also, but has the capability of up to 10 gigabit transmission
between clients and servers. Because of how quickly networking technology advances and equipment
speed evolves, CAT 6e cabling would be the optimal choice for the growing ABC Company. To utilize

Each switch is interconnected via multimode fiber optics between the floors. In addition, one port per
IDF will host an interconnected CAT 6e cable for redundancy in case the fiber optic cable becomes
unserviceable; having both a fiber optic cable and a CAT 6e cabling interconnecting the network
switches creates a fault tolerant network. Furthermore, to accommodate the transient nature of ABC
Company s employees during their day to day operations, a wireless access point (WAP) will be
installed centrally on each floor. Because of the location of each WAP, there is a chance of signal bleed
over between floors. To mitigate this possibility, each floor will have a non overlapping channel
assigned to it; floor one will use channel 1, floor two will utilize channel 6, and floor three will
employ channel 11. Furthermore, the antenna strength will be configured so there is minimal signal
bleed over outside of the confines of the office while still having full connectivity within the confines
of the building. With this wireless architecture, employees can move from floor to floor and maintain
network connectivity without co channel interference from channel bleed over. When employees are
traveling, the implementation of terminal access controller access control system plus (TACACS+)
servers will allow remote access via a virtual private network (VPN). Between WAP and TACACS+

Literary Techniques Used In Truman Capote s A Christmas...
Truman Capote was born Truman Strekfus Persons, but his mother made him change his name after
she remarried. Capote was one of the twentieth centuries most well known writers. Mostly known for
his work Breakfast At Tiffany s, he had other great pieces as well. One of them being A Christmas
Memory. Capote had one main worry in his life on this earth, and that was his best friend, his aunt,
Nanny Rumbley Faulk. Nanny s nickname was Sook, which was a common nickname for the older
sister of the house in the 1930s and 1940s. Capote later tells us that Sook nicknamed him Buddy after
a former best friend of hers who is now deceased. Capote uses three literary devices to highlight Sook
s importance.
Symbolism is used in A Christmas Memory to mirror Sook s actions. Capote uses Queenie for that
purpose. For example, Capote writes in paragraph twenty eight after Sook had been upset and buddy
comforts her, Queenie jumps on the bed to lick her cheeks. Symbolism is very a important part in this
short story because queenie always shows sooks reaction to the things happening around them. Capote
uses symbolism on himself as well is this short story. The symbol for Capote ... Show more content on

shows us partially how sook looks with her shorn white hair. In addition the last quote, another strong
example of vivid language used in this story is in paragraph seven when Capote says, Dusk turns the
window into a mirror: our reflections mingle with the rising moon as we work by the fireside in the
firelight. That shows us exactly what Capote and Sook were looking at and it gives us a unique image

Religious Views On Abortion
Religious Views of Abortion Throughout many years, abortion has been a topic of wide discussion and
multiple different views. By definition abortion is the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy,
most often performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy . The two most commonly used phrases
or titles that people use to describe their view on abortion would be: pro life or pro choice . Those
considered pro life believe that human life is created at the moment of fertilization and is, thus,
entitled to the same legal protections as any other human being (Crutcher, 2016). They believe that life
is much more important especially in cases like abortion and euthanasia. For those that are pro choice,

From their teachings to their mediation, it has always taught or practiced peace. Just like the religions
mentioned above, Hindus oppose abortion. Even from the Hindu scriptures mention abortion, but it is
more commonly referred to as garha batta also known as womb killing . In India they have specific
laws that state if the mother is in any harm or any risks that could cause her life threatening issues
during up to twenty weeks of her pregnancy, then abortion can be performed. A Hindu believes in
choosing and deciding the practice that will cause no harm to the mother, unborn child, and to the
society. The main teaching of Hinduism is ahisma or non violence. Basically, Hindus believe that
violence does not solve anything, which is very true. Abortion can be seen as harm to the mother and
of course to the fetus. Considering that is it practically murder, you can definitely see the reason why
they are opposed to it. Even the most historical and inspirational Hindu Gandhi, who is a non violence
activist, has said: It seems to me as clear as daylight that abortion would be a crime . Looking back at
the Hindu scriptures, it is very clear to see that this issue has been mentioned before. A Hindu text has
even compared abortion as similar to killing a priest. Another text also said that committing abortion
can be compared to killing one s parents. There is an issue in India where the

Julius And Ethel Rosenberg Research Paper
Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were an American couple that was charged with espionage. The US
government convicted them of being spies for the Soviet Union. It wasn t something of a little matter.
What the Rosenbergs gave, it has the power to destroy families, towns, even major cities. They gave
the Soviet Union the plans to the atomic bomb. On the fateful day of June 19, 1953, Julius and Ethel
Rosenberg were strapped to the electric chair and executed at a prison called Sing Sing. Although
Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were significant to the Soviet Union s development of their atomic
weaponry, their crime cost America a lot of panic, cost the government a lot of money, and cost them
their lives. Was it really worth it? They were the most famous orphans of the cold war. (Roberts). This

Does Classical Music Have An Effect On Infants Brain...
Does Classical Music Have an Effect on Infants Brain Development?
In 1998, Zell Miller, the governor of the state of Georgia, started a new program that distributed free
CDs with classical music to the parents of every newborn baby in Georgia. Why did he do this? He
certainly was not just trying to be nice and win a political statement; instead, his idea came from a
new line of research showing a link between listening to classical music and enhanced brain
development in infants. (1) So, what evidence was there for this governor to make a $105,000
proposal to give classical music for the newborn babies? I considered how my sister and I took music
lessons, the Suzuki method, since we were 7 or 8 years old, and how my mother ... Show more content

(2) However, soon enough, it was found that these results lasted only 10 15 minutes and more research
quickly was undertaken by various groups all over the world.
However, before continuing in this search of the validity of the Mozart effect, I feel like there needs to
be a definition of intelligence . Since we learned how tricky notions of words can be on our minds
from class, I took the liberty to search for how intelligence is measured and decided to take the
definition used by Wilfried Gruhn as being associated with cognitive and intellectual capacity, the
psychobiological potential to solve problems. This can be correlated with higher speed in neuronal
signal transmission and signal processing, stronger and more efficient neuronal interconnectivity, and
high correlation between IQ and neuronal activity (r=0.50 0.70). (3)
Now, if brain = behavior as we are learning in class (4), then there indeed should be a measurable
correlation between musically trained minds and their intelligence. In addition, there must be one or
more parts of the brain which are responsible for both these two behaviors of being musically inclined
and intelligent . And since the measure of intelligence is defined mainly concerning the brain activity,
I delved into the effects on music on brain idea that has always been accepted in my childhood.
Assuming that brain = behavior, I wanted to find out

Mine Descriptive Writing
It is mine. The golden sun that shines and kisses the tops of my shoulders. The wisps of white clouds
traveling within a baby blue sky. The gentle breeze that coils itself around my arms providing relief
from the warming sun. The sapphire sea and its serene waves rolling gently out to shore onto the
finely grained sand. It is all mine.
It is mine. Even the darkened sky when the sun cannot be seen. Even the blackened clouds that
blanket the sky. Even the blistering winds that pierce my skin with frozen shards. Even the dusky sea
and its roaring waves crashing against jagged edged boulders, creating a thick coat of foam as white as
seagulls feathers. It is all mine.
It is the sea. And all of it mine. I wear a single drop of the sapphire sea encased within a small,
marquise shaped stone. I wear the foam from roaring waves gathered up into two rounded diamonds. I
wear the finely grained, yellow gold sand that surrounds it all, and lifts everything up in a cathedral
mount. I wear my ring. Even now, it gingerly hugs my finger.
But it s not truly mine. The sea can never belong to me. And the ring doesn t belong to me. And the
ring no longer represents the love and bond between two people. And the ring has no purpose other
than to exist. Or at least that is what I tell myself. But I feel my gut twisting, my head pounding, and
my heart beat quickening, and I know that what I tell myself is wrong.

Essay On Public Speaking Anxiety
Public speaking anxiety There are many ways to help control public speaking anxiety, and it seems
that just about everybody has some methods that help them feel confident while presenting. Some
people pray beforehand or take deep breaths to get their nerves under control. Some people even
visualize the audience in their underwear. Some tactics that work for me are to find some people in the
audience that I know so that it feels like I m only talking to them and not a large group of people or to
just dress in something that makes me feel confident. Of course, everybody knows that no matter what
you do being fully prepared and rehearsed for your speech is going to make you more confident in
delivering the speech and make it sound better to the audience. Throughout the years ,I ve experienced
various times when I ve had to speak in front of others and sometime the results were better than
others. One of the first times, I can remember speaking in front of my class was in sixth grade for a
project about different counties in Arkansas. I was assigned a small county I had never even heard of
before but after a little research I found out some interesting facts about the county that fascinated me.

Similarities Between Reservation Blues And Huckleberry Finn
Twain wrote his novel after the Civil War in 1865 during the Reconstruction Era. His novel is about a
young boy named Huckleberry Finn who flees from home and drifts along the Mississippi River; it
takes place in the 1840s. On the other hand, Alexie s novel is a story of a cluster of Native Americans
who create a band; they call themselves Coyote Springs. Alexie s literary work introduces many
events that occurred in the nineteenth century near the Mississippi River, much like Twain s novel.
Because the novels introduce or take place in American features, the novels are known as American
literature. The novels inaugurate certain themes that relate to American aspects as well. Both Twain s
nineteenth century classic American novel The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and Sherman Alexie s
1995 novel Reservation Blues are distinctly American because of the way they are driven by theme.
Twain s novel is clearly American literature because of the protagonists traditions and regulations.
Huck lives among a community with cruel and absurd tasks. Huck s guardians teach him Christian
merit and manners. Huck narrates, The Widow Douglas she took me for her son, and allowed she
would sivilize me (1). The two sisters take Huck as a son and teach him religious beliefs and

American religion and culture overall. After Huck leaves his home, he surrounds himself with a more

Essay On Great White Sharks
With a body like a torpedo and a mouth like a black hole, it s nearly impossible to not think about this
miraculous predator as you float on the surface of the great blue sea. Even though the great white is
virtually the perfect predator, an attack on a human is unlikely and for the attack to be fatal is even
more unlikely. Being at the top of the food chain the shark has few threats. Orcas and larger sharks are
their only fear. Ironically, human interaction poses the biggest threat to the sharks. They are caught
and their fins and jaws are sold. Great whites can grow between 15 and 20 feet in length and weigh up
to 5,000 lbs. making them the largest predatory fish in the world. Males reach maturity around 10
years old while females mature later between 14 and 16 years of age. Females also grow to become
much larger than males. Not much is known about a great white shark s mating rituals because it has
never been witnessed but it is known the eggs hatch in the female s womb and the pups feed on the
unfertilized eggs. Females give birth to between ten and twelve pups a litter. They are commonly
found along the coasts of Australia, South Africa, California and the northeastern United States. The

Instead of John and his whole family going to Mexico, I decided that John stays home and reveals to
the public what is happening and the causes for racism. I said this because of John s knowledge of the
black people s lives after his experiment. My first piece of evidence can be seen when John finds a
place to sleep, after being stranded in a place called Mobile. John Howard Griffin states, This was the
dark tangent in every man s belly [...] the lust to cause pain or fear through self power (Griffin 105).
The quote supports my ending because it shows Griffin s new understanding of why the white race
mistreats the black communities. That will allow John to convince people to stop being racist, and
instead to start loving one another. Another piece of evidence is when John wakes up from a long
night, after finding a place to stay in a Negro s household. He says, Recent scientific studies show that
the contemporary middle class Negro has the same family cult, the same ideals and goals as his white
counterpart. This supports my ending because it allows John to show racists that the only difference
between whites and blacks are their skin color. The last piece of evidence can be seen after John stops
taking his medication and starts to look like his old self again. He asks himself, Was it worth trying to
show the one race what went on behind the mask of the other? (Griffin 126) This supports my ending
because it shows that John contemplates on whether he should talk to his fellow whites about what he
saw when he was a black

Secure Local Area Network Infrastructure Project
Secured Network Infrastructure Project.
Introduction
For one to design and come up with a very well secured network, there are a number of factors that
have to be taken into consideration. They include the topography and the place meant of hosts within
the network, the careful configuration of each component and lastly the selection of software and
hardware technologies. This project focuses on the designing of a secure Local Area Network as well
as some of the best practices suggested by the security experts. The three areas in which I will focus
include : network topology which comprises of the physical and logical design of the network, the
ways of securing the switches and routers that connect segments and hosts to and from the network
and lastly the the advanced techniques in network security.
Initial assumptions and Challenges.
In the examining some of the security issues that are commonly found in the small to medium sized
LAN set up for businesses and in the identification of the best practices from a network designer s
perspective, here are some of the challenges faced
Securing the internet facing web, mails servers and DNS
Securing the network from the attacks launched at it
The securing of mission critical and sensitive internal resources for example customer data base,
financial records and trade secrets
The building of a framework for the administrators to securely manage the network.
Provision of logging systems and those for detection of intrusion.

The king pointed out his knights skirting the edge of the crowds. As you can see, I make sure lots of

Audra and Carlton walked from stall to stall and examined the wares without much fanfare. Audra

High Cost Of College Tuition
The topic of college tuition is one you can hear almost anywhere you go. The cost of college is

better job you can come out in the end with; but with a longer education is longer payments. Although
college campuses across the United States raise their prices every year college is a business, which

College is ultimately a decision and no one is forced to attend college, this means that in order to
attend college people must have an investment. Without the investment of money there is no drive to
do well in classes. Students who have to struggle with debt understand that they must do well in
college if they want to be able to pay off that debt one day they must get a degree. With that degree
they can start to make money and begin to pay off the debt. If students who have a low income family
get to attend school for they will not have an investment into their education and will ultimately have
less drive to do well. Now if we add both the fact that the education quality will decrease and there is
no drive to do well anymore college education is not worth attending. People who actually have to pay
to go to the same school because their parents are doing well and making money are now getting a
worse education because the college they pay to go to doesn t have enough money to give them the
education they deserve. By doing this we as a nation are promoting a generation of lazy people.
Meaning that when someone must pay for something they want, if they want an education one must
pay for it.

pediatric, adult and generic patients, in 2014 0.5% of patients were less than 24 years of age, 32.4.%
of patients were 25 74 years of age , and 67.1% of patients were over 75 years of age (National
Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, 2015). Most importantly when looking at hospice patients
by race/ethnicity, we are able to see the need for cultural diversity and sensitivity, in 2014 76% of
hospice patients were Caucasian, 7.6% were African American, and 7.1% were Hispanic or Latino.
This indicates a decrease in diversity compared to the findings of 2013.

Cruise Ship s And The Canadian Arctic Essay
Cruise Ship s and the Canadian Arctic
Cruise ship tourism is on the rise, by the end of 2016 nearly 24 million people will have taken a cruise
( Cruise Industry Outlook, 2016). The cruise ship industry has experience a 68% increase in demand
since the mid 2000 s. Therefore, it is not surprising then, that the cruise ship industry had an global
economic impact of 119.9 billion in 2014 ( Cruise Industry Outlook, 2016). As more individuals turn
to cruises to fulfill their vacation needs, and arctic cruises are gaining in popularity due to melting sea
ice caused by climate change the issue of sustainability must be discussed, particularly the
environmental, economic and cultural impact that these enormous floating hotels will undoubtedly
have on the people and environment of Canada s Arctic.
The 1960 s marked the beginning of cruise tourism ( Brida, et.al, 2013). However, it wasn t until the
70 s and 80 s that the cruise industry began to experience moderate growth. All of this changed
however in 90 s when cruise tourism took root in Europe, Asia and Oceania and 3.8 million people
worldwide embarked on ocean adventures ( Brida, et.al, 2013). Although the industry has experienced
continual growth since the 90 s, and cruises are consistently ranked as one of the top preferred
vacation type by holiday goers, the cruise tourism industry is still relatively small in relation to other
forms of international tourism (Brida, et.al, 2013).
Cruise tourism differs

  • 2. Comparing Mccandless And Henry David Thoreau In the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, The Transcendentalist believes in the openness of the human mind to a new influx of light and power; he believes in inspiration, and in ecstasy. And so he resists all attempts to palm other rules and measures on the spirit than its own, ( Defining Transcendentalism ). Transcendentalism, in short, is finding oneself through nature, and since the Transcendentalist Movement of the 1800s, dozens of men have explored existential beliefs. Likewise, Into The Wild , by Jon Krakauer, tells the story of a young man named Christopher McCandless and his journey into the Alaskan wilderness, which parallels to Henry David Thoreau s venture to Walden Pond in 1845. Although Thoreau and McCandless lived generations apart, the men are connected through their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A significant part of identity is personality, and McCandless and Thoreau s personalities intertwined. For instance, McCandless was an independent learner who did not enjoy following rules. He preferred going about situations in an unconventional way, or followed his own methods. In college, he earned almost perfect grades, except in psychics, where he failed because he did not follow the proper lab format that the teacher ordered; he completed the lab as he pleased (Krakauer). Similarly, Thoreau attended Harvard, but was not pleased with how he Badger 2 was being taught, saying he was learning all of the branches and none of the roots, ( The Writings of Henry David Thoreau )). Furthermore, both men were talented and could pick up most trades: McCandless developed a computer programming system for his father, and Thoreau used his engineering skills to help manufacture pencils ( The Writings of Henry David Thoreau ). • 3. Stereotypes In Hollywood Stereotypes A deep look into some Latino performances shows the heroes who have withstood and undermined the stereotyping system however much they were involved in the Hollywood films where stereotyping is accustomed. Actors have less to contribute to the authorship as they are hired and are supposed to act wherever scene they are assigned to serve. Latino actors may not necessarily be considered Latino enough to take part in a scene; this has become a casting practice. Worse still we have actors from specific ethnic groups who cannot stand up and depart from stereotypes. Actor s original performance is not appreciated in a way that during production the actor follows every instruction from makeup artists to the director. Lack of appreciation frustrates the contribution of the film artist. Performance should include body movement, gestures, facial expression and voice which should not make the character disappear into actor or actor going into the character. The only way Latino actors will feature to be less stereotypical is by embracing the true artist performance. A case to show countering Hollywood stereotype is evident through characters like Lupe Velez s energetic in an uncontrolled way performance, Jose Ferrer s sweet and soothing voice, and Gilbert Roland s attention capturing costume and upright posture. We have some actors who have defied the pre assumed concept of stereotype and have tried their best in countering stereotyping. Lupe Velez who was brought to limelight ... These social movements often included marches and non violent protesting, but not all of them included violence at the hands of police or nights where sleep is impossible because of fear. The young people involved in Freedom Summer in 1964 would change the course of history, but not without significant sacrifices. Freedom Summer or the Mississippi Summer Project was the brainchild of the Student Non Violent Coordinating Committee or SNCC. The project had four main goals, to expand African American voter registration, to organize a legally constituted Freedom Democratic Party that will challenge the whites only Mississippi Democratic Party, to establish freedom schools and to open community centers where legal and medical assistance were available. In order to achieve these goals SNCC specifically recruited 800 white students under the age of 21. Most of the volunteers were white students who had participated in civil rights activities in the North...The fact that the volunteers were expected to forgo summer jobs, to pay for their own transportation, and to provide their own bond money in the event of arrest ensured that affluent students predominated. These students joined the already solid African American activist core in the South. The African American staff members who worked with the white volunteers often felt ambivalent about the need for white people to be hurt during the movement to get ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Renewable Transport Fuels Obligation For The Demand Of... The increasing industrialization and modernisation of the world has resulted in a precipitous growth for the demand of petroleum based fuels (Agrawal, 2007). In 2014 in UK, a total of 54.2 million tonnes of oil equivalent (mtoe) of energy was used in transportation which is nearly 40% of all of the energy consumed (DECC, 2015, p. 8). Progressive depletion of conventional fossil fuels with increasing energy consumption and GHG emissions have led to a move towards alternative, renewable, sustainable, efficient and cost effective energy sources with lesser emissions (Nigama, P, S., Singhb, A., 2011). It was then amended four times in 2009, 2011, 2013 and recently in April 2015 (Department for Transport, 2012). The RTFO s prime objective is to promote the mandatory standards for biofuel sustainability in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) from road transport across the UK. Under the RTFO, transport fuel suppliers in the UK must be able to show that an amount of obligated percentages of the fuel they supply comes from renewable and sustainable sources. It also requires the suppliers to report on the environmental performance of their biofuels (DfTa, 2015). In addition, the diverse stakeholder engagement in RTFO was a key factor for its success. The low Carbon Vehicle Partnership works as an umbrella for a wide spectrum of associations and actors who have in common the pursuance of a future with cleaner cars and fuels (Sandoval, I. S., Popartan, L, 2014). It provides the environment for energy companies, government, experts, scholars as well as consumer organizations to work together and promote market for biofuels. With the consensus of all participants and the British government s support, the carbon and sustainability reporting framework as well as methodology for calculating the carbon intensities of various biofuels were designed (Chalmers, J., Archer,G., 2011). • 7. The Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act The Chesapeake Bay is the largest estuary in the United States. It is located on the eastern seaboard, with the upper portion of the bay in Maryland and the lower portion in Virginia. The Chesapeake Bay is vital to the ecology and economy of both Virginia and Maryland. There are more than one hundred fifty rivers that flow into the bay. Within the Chesapeake Bay, there are around 2,700 species that live there. Needless to say, this is a very important ecosystem that needs to be protected. The Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act does just that. The Virginia General Assembly enacted the Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act in 1988 in an effort to promote the general welfare of the people of the commonwealth. The act is effective in 84 different localities throughout Virginia. This act was designed to have a positive impact on water quality of the bay itself, and also water throughout Virginia that feed into the bay. Along with improving water quality, it was designed to still allow reasonable development to continue taking place. The act is designed around the theory that land can be used and developed in a way that minimizes negative impacts on water quality. • 10. The Importance of Women Linda K. Kerber s Women of the... When considering the American Revolution most histories fail to recognize both sides of the fight for liberty. Men were certainly the central figures; however could they have succeeded without the periphery support of women? In her book, Women of the Republic: Intellect and Ideology in Revolutionary America, Linda K. Kerber explores the contribution of women to the war and demonstrates the rising of Republican Motherhood during and following the war. Through this ideology, women merged their traditional roles with their new sense of civic duty. In the beginning chapters, Kerber examines women s engagement in the war effort, explores the emerging idea of female patriotism and states the proper loyalties of married women during the time. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the beginning of the struggle in America, women s citizenship was not given serious consideration. Women were invisible in the political sphere and were seen to have no capacity where politics were concerned. When the war occurred, the role of women vastly changed. They were leaders off the battlefield. Women began to question their role in the political arena. Could a woman have a political thought? Could women be patriots? Must a wife s political loyalty be the same as her husband s? Once the Revolution succeeded, these questions were pushed away. Women had played the role of Republican Mother and completed their duty in helping the war effort, they did not need a more significant political role. Although women realized they had the potential to have a political mind, Kerber uses the legal processes of confiscation, coverture, and divorce to explain how women s political identities were still tied to the role of wife. The American Revolution was a fight for liberty and freedom, unless you were a woman. As long as those three processes remained intact women would not gain freedom. In her next chapter, Kerber examines the newfound need for the educating of women. Women were not allowed freedom or a political opinion, but they could not be completely pushed aside. For years women had been taught that education made them undesirable to men and educated women were scorned. Kerber argues that a new need for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The internal combustion engine has become a huge part in everyday life. These engines have allowed people to travel across the country, generate electricity, and fly around the world. This engine has been a perpetual source of exploration ever since Henry Ford mass produced the first Model T. The combustion increases the temperature of the exhaust gases, any residual air in the combustion chamber, and the combustion chamber itself. From the ideal gas law, the increased temperature of the gases also produces an increased pressure in the combustion chamber; the high pressure of the gases acting on the face of the piston cause the piston to move to which initiates the power stroke (para. 8). Unlike the compression stroke, the hot gas does work on the piston during the power stroke. The force on the piston is transmitted by the piston rod to the crankshaft, where the linear motion of the piston is converted to angular motion of the crankshaft. Hall s article for NASA states that the work done on the piston is then used to turn the shaft (para. 8). Having produced the igniting spark, the electrical contact remains opened. During the power stroke, the volume occupied by the gases is increased because of the piston motion and no heat is transferred to the fuel/air mixture (para. 9). As the volume is increased because of the piston s motion, the pressure and temperature of the gas are decreased. Heat that is left over from the power stroke is now transferred to the water in the water jacket until the pressure approaches atmospheric pressure; the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Ottomans had a very diverse body of knowledge and based their practices on ideas from all around the world. The knowledge came from the traditions of medieval Islam and central Asia. They also collected information from many sources such as Greek, Persian and Turkish books. When it came to immigrants, Ottomans always had open arms. By doing this, they were able to collect information from Iranian physicians and Jews who were running from persecution in countries such as Spain, Portugal and Italy. The Ottomans collected information from all around the world, helping them implement the most advanced and up to date practices. However, not all of their practices were advanced. In early Ottoman medicine there was a wide range of medical practices ranging from those deemed superstitious and supernatural to practices considered extremely advanced. Some Ottoman physicians practiced advanced methods but they did not come from advanced beliefs. The beliefs of Humoralism, one of the three types of medicine practiced at the time would today be laughed at. Humoralists believed that the body was made up of four humors: blood, phlegm, black bile and yellow bile. They believed that sickness would be caused by an imbalance of these humors. • 16. Old Age And The Process Of Aging This paper argues that gerontology, the study of old age and the process of aging, have overlooked gender inequality within policies of patriarchal structures, and within the ideologies of western capitalist society. This is a major source of women s social and economic powerlessness in old age. Ray (1996) explains feminist gerontology as a connection between feminism and gerontology focusing on gender and gender relations. Feminist gerontology deals with populations of both women and men, and through the connection between gender, conclusions in research on women are drawn from building upon research based on men (Calasanti, 2004). Patriarchal structure of western society still maintains the core preference of traditional gender roles, which lead to familiar results in old age. The manifestation of this ideology can be seen in advertisement in media and again repeated within institutions of political and educational domains. Its ability to take several forms produces the root of issues of inequality in old age and difficulty women face compared to men. Gender, within research of gerontology is relatively recent in its consideration in exploring the experience of elderly in western society (Wray, 2003). Therefore, differentiating between genders is done through describing the obstacles that women face in old age compared to men, such as gap in life expectancy, where women tend to live longer than men (Backes et al., 2006). Since it has been proved that movies can influence tourists to visit a location shown in the movies (Riley Van Doren, 1992), this paper will estimate the number of tourist arrivals from movies that has the filming locations in Thailand and released overseas based on the main economic factors such as gross domestic product (GDP), distance, and relative price, which are often used in the tourism demand equation. Seeing that the Thai tourism industry performs an important role in the national economy, accurate estimates of inbound tourism from movie induced tourism can deliver useful information for both the government and private sectors working in these areas. Secondary data were collected for this study, where we based on 42 countries from the year between 1997 to 2014. The study employs an econometric model of tourism demand and estimated using the method of Ordinary Least Squares (OLS). The result shows that 2 out of the 4 hypotheses were supported. As expected, it indicates that movie release and GDP are positively related to tourist arrivals, while distance and relative prices are negatively related to tourist arrivals. Hence, the higher the number ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Women modeling this behavior are an example of social cognitive theory. In the 1980s, this theory was expanded by film theorists who drew from different fields and since then many studies have been conducted to see how films influence society (Nannicelli). Stereotypes in film influences society in the ways it portrays romance, explained by social cognitive theory; movies give a false illusion for women to believe and unrealistic expectations of men and relationships. The social cognitive theory suggests that people who watch romantic comedies glean some understanding from the films by observing the actors behavior and take away from it how they should behave in their own relationships. Due to the unrealistic modeling of behavior that the media gives society, following this example cannot possibly bring a desirable outcome. Hollywood s goal is to entertain their viewers and make them fall in love with the story and characters, but viewers often don t realize this and after watching a romantic movie have a longing for fairy tale love. Hollywood has created an unrealistic and unattainable love. Therefore, when women model their ideals for a relationship off of the romantic comedy genre, they are highly disappointed, ultimately causing themselves to once again go back to living vicariously through the characters (Green). For a cell to obtain substance, the substance needs to go across the cell membrane. The volume of the cell determines its metabolism. This data supports my hypothesis because it shows that agar smallest ratio took the longest time for it to change colors. From my observations of the agar in the vinegar, I can conclude that cells with a smaller surface area to volume ratio would be less efficient at diffusing materials than a cell with a larger one. Since we learned how tricky notions of words can be on our minds from class, I took the liberty to search for how intelligence is measured and decided to take the definition used by Wilfried Gruhn as being associated with cognitive and intellectual capacity, the psychobiological potential to solve problems. This can be correlated with higher speed in neuronal signal transmission and signal processing, stronger and more efficient neuronal interconnectivity, and high correlation between IQ and neuronal activity (r=0.50 0.70). (3) Now, if brain = behavior as we are learning in class (4), then there indeed should be a measurable correlation between musically trained minds and their intelligence. In addition, there must be one or more parts of the brain which are responsible for both these two behaviors of being musically inclined and intelligent . And since the measure of intelligence is defined mainly concerning the brain activity, I delved into the effects on music on brain idea that has always been accepted in my childhood. Assuming that brain = behavior, I wanted to find out ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Mine Descriptive Writing It is mine. The golden sun that shines and kisses the tops of my shoulders. The wisps of white clouds traveling within a baby blue sky. The gentle breeze that coils itself around my arms providing relief from the warming sun. The sapphire sea and its serene waves rolling gently out to shore onto the finely grained sand. It is all mine. It is mine. Even the darkened sky when the sun cannot be seen. Even the blackened clouds that blanket the sky. Even the blistering winds that pierce my skin with frozen shards. Even the dusky sea and its roaring waves crashing against jagged edged boulders, creating a thick coat of foam as white as seagulls feathers. It is all mine. It is the sea. And all of it mine. I wear a single drop of the sapphire sea encased within a small, marquise shaped stone. I wear the foam from roaring waves gathered up into two rounded diamonds. I wear the finely grained, yellow gold sand that surrounds it all, and lifts everything up in a cathedral mount. I wear my ring. Even now, it gingerly hugs my finger. But it s not truly mine. The sea can never belong to me. And the ring doesn t belong to me. And the ring no longer represents the love and bond between two people. And the ring has no purpose other than to exist. Or at least that is what I tell myself. But I feel my gut twisting, my head pounding, and my heart beat quickening, and I know that what I tell myself is wrong. At least one day of every year, for the past couple of years, I ve seemed to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Essay On Public Speaking Anxiety Public speaking anxiety There are many ways to help control public speaking anxiety, and it seems that just about everybody has some methods that help them feel confident while presenting. Some people pray beforehand or take deep breaths to get their nerves under control. Some people even visualize the audience in their underwear. Some tactics that work for me are to find some people in the audience that I know so that it feels like I m only talking to them and not a large group of people or to just dress in something that makes me feel confident. Of course, everybody knows that no matter what you do being fully prepared and rehearsed for your speech is going to make you more confident in delivering the speech and make it sound better to the audience. Throughout the years ,I ve experienced various times when I ve had to speak in front of others and sometime the results were better than others. One of the first times, I can remember speaking in front of my class was in sixth grade for a project about different counties in Arkansas. I was assigned a small county I had never even heard of before but after a little research I found out some interesting facts about the county that fascinated me. This caused me to be very involved and proud of my work. When it came time to present my speech I was very prepared and excited to share what I had found out. Through my experience I have learned that being proud of what you are saying or the work you put into the assignment affects how ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Similarities Between Reservation Blues And Huckleberry Finn Twain wrote his novel after the Civil War in 1865 during the Reconstruction Era. His novel is about a young boy named Huckleberry Finn who flees from home and drifts along the Mississippi River; it takes place in the 1840s. On the other hand, Alexie s novel is a story of a cluster of Native Americans who create a band; they call themselves Coyote Springs. Alexie s literary work introduces many events that occurred in the nineteenth century near the Mississippi River, much like Twain s novel. Because the novels introduce or take place in American features, the novels are known as American literature. The novels inaugurate certain themes that relate to American aspects as well. Both Twain s nineteenth century classic American novel The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and Sherman Alexie s 1995 novel Reservation Blues are distinctly American because of the way they are driven by theme. Twain s novel is clearly American literature because of the protagonists traditions and regulations. Huck lives among a community with cruel and absurd tasks. Huck s guardians teach him Christian merit and manners. Huck narrates, The Widow Douglas she took me for her son, and allowed she would sivilize me (1). The two sisters take Huck as a son and teach him religious beliefs and American culture. Although Huck does not like being religious, he still has a beneficial idea of American religion and culture overall. After Huck leaves his home, he surrounds himself with a more vile ... • 35. Essay On Great White Sharks With a body like a torpedo and a mouth like a black hole, it s nearly impossible to not think about this miraculous predator as you float on the surface of the great blue sea. Even though the great white is virtually the perfect predator, an attack on a human is unlikely and for the attack to be fatal is even more unlikely. Being at the top of the food chain the shark has few threats. Orcas and larger sharks are their only fear. Ironically, human interaction poses the biggest threat to the sharks. They are caught and their fins and jaws are sold. Great whites can grow between 15 and 20 feet in length and weigh up to 5,000 lbs. making them the largest predatory fish in the world. Males reach maturity around 10 years old while females mature later between 14 and 16 years of age. Females also grow to become much larger than males. Not much is known about a great white shark s mating rituals because it has never been witnessed but it is known the eggs hatch in the female s womb and the pups feed on the unfertilized eggs. Females give birth to between ten and twelve pups a litter. They are commonly found along the coasts of Australia, South Africa, California and the northeastern United States. The sharks like to stay in warmer waters because it s where their prey is found. Although the like to hover near the surface they have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 36. The Original Ending Of Black Like Me By John Howard Griffin In the original ending of Black Like Me, John Howard Griffin reveals that he has conducted an experiment where he changed the color of his skin to see how African Americans lived in the deep South. After news reports got the news of the actions of John Howard Griffin, racists started to threaten his life. That is when he decided to go to Mexico, until the story died down. When he came back to his home, he hired a Negro Youth (Griffin 163) to clean up his parents home. This is when he reveals why racism existed. In the book, there are many pieces of evidence, which supports this type of ending. One piece of evidence can be seen as right after John broke the news about his experiment of acting like a black man to see what went on in their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead of John and his whole family going to Mexico, I decided that John stays home and reveals to the public what is happening and the causes for racism. I said this because of John s knowledge of the black people s lives after his experiment. My first piece of evidence can be seen when John finds a place to sleep, after being stranded in a place called Mobile. John Howard Griffin states, This was the dark tangent in every man s belly [...] the lust to cause pain or fear through self power (Griffin 105). The quote supports my ending because it shows Griffin s new understanding of why the white race mistreats the black communities. That will allow John to convince people to stop being racist, and instead to start loving one another. Another piece of evidence is when John wakes up from a long night, after finding a place to stay in a Negro s household. He says, Recent scientific studies show that the contemporary middle class Negro has the same family cult, the same ideals and goals as his white counterpart. This supports my ending because it allows John to show racists that the only difference between whites and blacks are their skin color. The last piece of evidence can be seen after John stops taking his medication and starts to look like his old self again. He asks himself, Was it worth trying to show the one race what went on behind the mask of the other? (Griffin 126) This supports my ending because it shows that John contemplates on whether he should talk to his fellow whites about what he saw when he was a black ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduction For one to design and come up with a very well secured network, there are a number of factors that have to be taken into consideration. They include the topography and the place meant of hosts within the network, the careful configuration of each component and lastly the selection of software and hardware technologies. This project focuses on the designing of a secure Local Area Network as well as some of the best practices suggested by the security experts. The three areas in which I will focus include : network topology which comprises of the physical and logical design of the network, the ways of securing the switches and routers that connect segments and hosts to and from the network and lastly the the advanced techniques in network security. Initial assumptions and Challenges. In the examining some of the security issues that are commonly found in the small to medium sized LAN set up for businesses and in the identification of the best practices from a network designer s perspective, here are some of the challenges faced Securing the internet facing web, mails servers and DNS Securing the network from the attacks launched at it The securing of mission critical and sensitive internal resources for example customer data base, financial records and trade secrets The building of a framework for the administrators to securely manage the network. • 38. Synopsis Of The King Of The Flies It s another one of Aber Hael s main attractions. People come from all over for our wares, but especially the seafood. I tell you, these people can fry, pickle, and salt anything. Carlton removed Audra s arm from this elbow and took her hand instead, threading his fingers between hers. It ll be easier for us to move along this way. The king pointed out his knights skirting the edge of the crowds. As you can see, I make sure lots of knights are available on market day to help keep the peace. It s usually calm, but in the warmer weather when people have too much to drink, things can get rowdy. That s where our men come in. Audra and Carlton walked from stall to stall and examined the wares without much fanfare. Audra particularly liked the small charms and sun catchers offered at one stall. She admired a sun catcher of a beautifully detailed red dragon flying above the clouds over a rushing river, Hael River, she assumed. A robust, white haired woman, the stall s merchant, approached. That s one of my favorites. Isn t that beautiful? Yes, I love it. Do you make these? Audra turned the sun catcher that hung from a hook so it would better reflect the light. I m proud to say the work s all mine. Can I interest you In that instant, Carlton turned around and the old woman clearly recognized him right away and could not speak. She curtseyed low immediately. With the rise in the price of college the demand of college graduates in the work force is also on the rise. It is known fact that the higher you go in your college education the better job you can come out in the end with; but with a longer education is longer payments. Although college campuses across the United States raise their prices every year college is a business, which means that they need to make money off the students. If New York was to allow families that make under 125,000 dollars a year to go to a SUNY school for free then the college would ultimately make less money. If the colleges make less money the quality of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... College is ultimately a decision and no one is forced to attend college, this means that in order to attend college people must have an investment. Without the investment of money there is no drive to do well in classes. Students who have to struggle with debt understand that they must do well in college if they want to be able to pay off that debt one day they must get a degree. With that degree they can start to make money and begin to pay off the debt. If students who have a low income family get to attend school for they will not have an investment into their education and will ultimately have less drive to do well. Now if we add both the fact that the education quality will decrease and there is no drive to do well anymore college education is not worth attending. People who actually have to pay to go to the same school because their parents are doing well and making money are now getting a worse education because the college they pay to go to doesn t have enough money to give them the education they deserve. By doing this we as a nation are promoting a generation of lazy people. Meaning that when someone must pay for something they want, if they want an education one must pay for it. ... • 41. Cruise Ship s And The Canadian Arctic Essay Cruise Ship s and the Canadian Arctic Cruise ship tourism is on the rise, by the end of 2016 nearly 24 million people will have taken a cruise ( Cruise Industry Outlook, 2016). The cruise ship industry has experience a 68% increase in demand since the mid 2000 s. Therefore, it is not surprising then, that the cruise ship industry had an global economic impact of 119.9 billion in 2014 ( Cruise Industry Outlook, 2016). As more individuals turn to cruises to fulfill their vacation needs, and arctic cruises are gaining in popularity due to melting sea ice caused by climate change the issue of sustainability must be discussed, particularly the environmental, economic and cultural impact that these enormous floating hotels will undoubtedly have on the people and environment of Canada s Arctic. The 1960 s marked the beginning of cruise tourism ( Brida, et.al, 2013). However, it wasn t until the 70 s and 80 s that the cruise industry began to experience moderate growth. All of this changed however in 90 s when cruise tourism took root in Europe, Asia and Oceania and 3.8 million people worldwide embarked on ocean adventures ( Brida, et.al, 2013). Although the industry has experienced continual growth since the 90 s, and cruises are consistently ranked as one of the top preferred vacation type by holiday goers, the cruise tourism industry is still relatively small in relation to other forms of international tourism (Brida, et.al, 2013).
