Current Legal Frmework For Control Of Activities
CHAPTER THREE: CURRENT LEGAL FRMEWORK FOR CONTROL OF ACTIVITIES OF
MULTINATIONAL OIL COMPANIES IN NIGERIA. There are some applicable domestic laws and
international treaties in Nigeria for regulating the activities of multinational oil companies through
human rights enforcement and protection of the environment. 3.1 NATIONAL LAWS As
sovereign nation, Nigeria has power to enact laws relating to foreign investment and for human
right protection of her citizens. On the other hand Nigeria has signed several BITs for protection of
the foreign investor (including MNCs) but these BITs must be reconciled with need for the foreign
investors to recognise human right provisions in the Nigerian legal system. Section 17 of the 1999

It implies that pollution of the environment in the Niger Delta Area of Nigeria by the MNCs
coupled with other human right abuses is tantamount to deprivation of rights to life and human
dignity. Section 9(1)(b)(iii) of the Petroleum Act 1969 provides that the Minster of Petroleum
can make laws relating to prevention of pollution of water courses and the atmosphere . Further
provisions against pollution of the marine environment in the course of oil drilling is in
Regulation 25 of the Petroleum (Drilling and Production) Regulations 1969 made pursuant to
the Petroleum Act. However the law lacks defined standard to guard against pollution. The
requirements that the MNCs should carry out exploration of oil in proper and workmanlike
manner and with good oil field practice are vague and do not define any standard . The
Associated Gas Re injection Act 1979 which seeks to restrict and regulate flaring of associated
gas provides for period of time within which the oil companies would begin to re inject gas and
cease gas flaring, a major source of environmental pollution and health hazard. Section 3 of the
Act provides that gas flaring would cease by 1 January 1984 but by a proviso the Minister of
Petroleum could continue to permit oil companies to flare gas after the date. The current position is
that the Minister has permitted gas flaring overtime and deadline has been shifted severally without
any good result . The last

Dopamine In Nucleus Accumbins Research Paper
The Neurotransmitters of Addiction
The release of Dopamine in nucleus accumbens (NAs) via mesolimbic pathway mediate a positive
reinforcing phase that is critical for the development of addiction. For this reason, one might
deduce that addiction would no longer exist if a scientist were to create a way to block the dopamine
reward neural basis of addiction. However, elimination of addiction is more complex than that as it
requires treatment of its the neurological, psychological, genetic, and environmental components.
Dopamine is a natural chemical that plays a critical part in the brains reward based learning
system which is believed to have initially evolved a thousand years ago for survival purposes. A

Reverse Racism In America
Racism has been an ongoing problem for decades, but now it has evolved into more complications
rather than black people versus white people and wanting equality.
The most heated debate about racism recently is if reverse racism exists or not.
With new laws like affirmative action that have an intent on helping african americans as well as
universities wanting more minorities in their programs, it s causing white americans to get upset
due to beliefs that the social system is not giving everybody equal opportunities. Whites have been
labeling this as reverse racism .
This is a sensitive issue that needs to be addressed.

Daniel Koshland has stated the importance for diversity in the science field. If a minority is
underrepresented in a category (i), there may be a pipeline problem where the solution requires

Top Ten Reasons Students Cannot Cite Or Rely On Wikipedia
Buddha once said, Believe nothing, no matter where you read it or who has said it, not even if I
have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense. Thousands of
years later this is still relevant and gives an important to today s youth: don t believe everything

According to the article, Top Ten Reasons Students Cannot Cite or Rely on Wikipedia written by
Mark E. Moran, an Irish student by the name of Shane Fitzgerald posted a fake quotation on a
Wikipedia article about a deceased French composer named Maurice Jarre. Later, Fitzgerald was
startled to learn that several major newspapers picked up the quote and published it in
obituaries, confirming his suspicions of the questionable ways in which journalists use websites,
and Wikipedia, as a reliable source. This proves that, while the person behind the screen
publishing this article may know it is false, it can appear just as trustworthy as any other fact in
the article. It also says in the article Warming Up to the Culture of Wikipedia by Noam Cohen,
...many curators are suspicious of a site where anyone can create and edit an article, and where the
assertions of expertise are greeted with skepticism or, at best, a shrug. This shows that it is not only

The Eel Marsh House In Susan Hill s The Woman In Black
In Susan Hill s The Woman in Black, the story starts out in present day London England on
Christmas Eve. Arthur Kipps, the main character and narrator is getting ready to tell his
grandchildren a story from when he was young. The story makes for a great ghost story. When
Arthur was young he was a businessman, who was sent on a business trip to Crythin Gifford to
search through documents in the house of a woman who had recently past away. Her name was
Alice Drablow, and she lived at the house commonly known as the Eel Marsh House. She was an
woman whose husband had recently past, so to go into an abandoned house and find some
documents should have been easy to find in my opinion. However, this assumption was incorrect.

sickly looking woman dressed in all black at the funeral. The strange part is when he asks the
townspeople what is wrong with her, none of them knew who he was talking about. When he
finally gets to the Eel Marsh House he realizes that finding the documents were not going to be

Q1:Why is reproduction essential for organisms?
Reproduction is a fundamental feature of all living organisms. It is a biological process through
which living organisms produce offspring s similar to them. Reproduction ensures the continuance
of various species on the Earth. In the absence of reproduction, the species will not be able to exist
for a long time and may soon get extinct.
Q2:Which is a better mode of reproduction sexual or asexual? Why?

Violence In Things Fall Apart Essay
Violence in Things Fall Apart In great literature, no scene of violence exists for its own sake.
Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe uses violence as a means to portray the struggles between
change and tradition. The scene that captures this struggle the best is the murder of Ikemefuna.
Within in the scene the reader is both exposed to the traditions of Umuofia and the Ibo culture as
well as, the struggle and moral hardships they place on the people of the tribe. The killing of
Ikemefuna exemplifies the struggle between tradition and change that occurs throughout the
entirety of the novel. Ikemefuna was brought to Umuofia as payment for the killing of a young
women from the tribe. The clan leaders decided that Ikemefuna would live with Okonkwo at his
compound. While staying at the compound Ikemefuna formed a close bond with Okonkwo s
oldest son, Nwoye (Achebe 34). The two of them became inseparable and Nwoye began to look up
and admire Ikemefuna. Okonkwo appreciated... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Okonkwo had grown to love Ikemefuna, but in the end he could not choose to be weak. Ibo
tradition states that men are warriors and that there are certain prices to be paid. Tradition did
not account for Okonkwo s love. Love was a weakness for men, they were meant to be stoic and
strong. Throughout the murder of Ikemefuna Okonkwo has an inner struggle between choosing
to breakaway from what is expected of him and save the boy or what is the tradition of the Ibo
culture (61). He chooses the latter and slices Ikemefuna down with his machete. The violence of
the scene is then contrasted by the morose tone of the portion of the novel that immediately
follows. Okonkwo does not speak and barely eats for the next few days (63). He mourns the boy
in secret. Too afraid to show feelings, Okonkwo hides away from the world. The killing of
Ikemefuna clearly portrays the struggle between tradition and change in Things Fall

The Constructivist View Of Learning
In any classroom, the constructivist view of learning can point towards a number of different
teaching methods. The constructivist view usually means encouraging students to use active
techniques such as experiments, real world problem solving, to create more knowledge for
themselves and then for the students to reflect and talk about what they did and how their
understanding changed. (Educational Broadcasting Corporation, 2004). This view of learninggoes
hand in hand with an agriculture educational classroom that bases their curriculum around the FFA
program and the three circle model: instruction, supervised agricultural experience and student
leadership organizations. The FFA motto is Learning to Do, Doing to Learn, Earning to Live,
Living to Serve. (National FFA Organization , 2014)
Constructivism refers to the idea that learners construct knowledge for themselves and that each
learner individually and socially construct meaning as he or she learns. In the views of
constructivism, there is no such thing as knowledge independent of the knower, but only
knowledge that the student constructs for themselves as they learn. According the constructivist
theory, learning is not understanding the true nature of things, nor is it remembering dimly
perceived perfect ideas perfect ideas, but rather a personal and social construction of meaning out
of the bewildering array of sensations which have no order or structure besides the explanations
which educators fabricate

The purpose of this experiment was to carry out an interesting, unique and uncommon project, just

the Mozart Effect because it was proven to strengthen achievement on cognitive tests(EMedExpert,

Rachel Carson s Silent Spring and the Beginning of the Environmental Movement in the United
States
When Rachel Carson s Silent Spring was published in 1962, it generated a storm of controversy
over the use of chemical pesticides. Miss Carson s intent in writing Silent Spring was to warn the
public of the dangers associated with pesticide use. Throughout her book are numerous case studies
documenting the harmful effects that chemical pesticides have had on the environment. Along with
these facts, she explains how in many instances the pesticides have done more harm than good in
eradicating the pests they were designed to destroy. In addition to her reports on pesticide use, Miss

Impact of Silent Spring
When excerpts of Silent Spring first began appearing in The New Yorkermagazine in June 1962,
they caused an uproar and brought a howl of indignation from the chemical industry. Supporters of
the pesticide industry argued that her book gave an incomplete picture because it did not say
anything about the benefits of using pesticides. An executive of the American Cyanamid Company
complained, if man were to faithfully follow the teachings of Miss Carson, we would return to the
Dark Ages, and the insects and diseases and vermin would once again inherit the earth. Chemical
manufacturers began undertaking a more aggressive public relations campaign to educate the
public on the benefits of pesticide use. Monsanto, for example, published and distributed 5,000
copies of a brochure parodying Silent Spring entitled The Desolate Year, which explained how
chemical pesticides were largely responsible for the virtual eradication of diseases such as malaria,
yellow fever, sleeping sickness, and typhus in the United States and throughout the world, and that
without the assistance of pesticides in agricultural production millions around the world would
suffer from malnutrition or starve to death (NRDC 1997).
One of the main counterarguments to Miss Carson s book expressed by the farmers, scientists, and
other supporters of the pesticide industry was that farm yields would be drastically reduced without
the assistance

The Importance Of Intolerance Of Puritans In The Crucible
As famously written by George Orwell, Big Brother is watching you. In the eyes of the Puritans,
God is the Big Brother watching over them in their mission to become the city upon a hill. They
devote themselves to pleasing Him, eventually becoming obsessed with their status as the paragon
of a Puritansociety. However, as their ideologies become increasingly restrictive, their intolerance of
misconduct also consolidates, and their utmost faithfulness ultimately leads to their untimely
destruction. While John Winthrop, the governor of the MassachusettsBay Colony, delivers A Model
of Christian Charity, laying out the societal expectations of Puritans, Jonathan Edwards in Sinners
in the Hands of an Angry God aggressively warns the Puritans of the wrath of God, and Arthur
Miller denounces their flawed ideology and the paranoia it induces in The Crucible. In 1692, the
small, quaint town of SalemVillage is in absolute mayhem when a group of young girls claim there
is evil amongst them. Due to their intolerance of imperfections in their community, Puritans mark
the beginning of the Salem witch trials and their doom. Despite their original objective to create a
utopian society based purely on faithfulness, the Puritans unquenchable thirst for protecting their
reputation creates a domino effect of events provoking their downfall.
The Puritans need for perfection due to their God given responsibility to maintain their status as
the city upon a hill is inherently dangerous to their society. Rather than confront and fix
imperfections in their community, the authorities dangerously label them as evil, which becomes
a corrupt case of terrible victory of prejudice over reason (Shapiro). Their incessant desire to be a
flawless, united group of quintessential Puritans becomes a threat to their existence as they
attempt to prevent any kind of disunity that might open it to destruction by material or ideological
enemies, a tactic utilized by any fanatical group (Miller 5). It is imperative for citizens to have the
same mindset and share the same ideologies, however, if an individual speaks against the accepted
beliefs, he is believed to be a threat to society and therefore is alienated and exterminated, an

people who had connections with Maier s life, mostly the children who grew up in Maier s care,
and from the two contemporary masters, Joel Meyerwitz and Mary Ellen Mark.

The empire claimed each facet throughout their rule, though the Ottomans did usually not dominate

This gave Al Iraq management of most of the waterway and needed Asian nation to pay toll

Data Structure queues methods and abstract data types are included in this elementary slot. ( 2, 3,
4, 5,6, 7)
Robert s defined abstract data type as the algorithms operations that are preformed rather than
implemented the data structure and algorithms operating on it should refer to anything inside,
except through function and procedure calls for the fundamental operations. The main reason for
the development of abstract data types has been as a mechanism for organizing large programs.
Abstract data types provide a way to limit the size and complexity of the interface between
(potentially complicated) algorithms and associated data structures and a potentially large number
of programs that use the algorithms and data structures, making it easier to understand large
program and more convenient to change or improve the fundamental algorithms .(2:pg30)
Arrays and linked list are refinements of a basic abstract data type called the linear list, because
each can support operations such as insert, delete and access on a basic sequentially data ordered
structure. These operation suffice to describe the algorithms and the linear list abstraction can be
useful in the initial states of algorithms development. Using the wrong algorithm like a

Significance Of The European Union
The European Union has grown from its humble beginnings of the European Coal and Steel
Community (ECSC) into a complex system of governance within Europe and it has become a key
figure internationally. The issue is whether the European Union (EU) has in this time grown into a
supranational form of governance with the establishment of treaties, or have the nation states stayed
in control. I am going to argue that the EU s supranational qualities are the allocation of shared
common interests among the nation states that compose it. It has been shown by history that the
power ultimately lies in the member state as evidenced by the need for unanimity in passing the
treaties that mandate the EU and earlier conceptions of it have resulted in the... Show more content

These issues were resolved allowing the member states to move forward with ratification, however,
there was a vast opposition to the Constitutional Treaty. The EU and the supporters of the treaty
failed to properly explain the Constitutional Treaty, causing it to be denied in France and the
Netherlands. The rejection of the treaty in certain states was caused by globalization, which was
leading to unemployment causing them to be alienated and frustrated, however, some of their
complaints were already apart of the European Union, so it shows the nation state has the power to
accept an idea, and then decline it at a later date as seen also by Brexit. The Lisbon Treaty stated
that the power of the European Union is given by the member states in the form of treaties, which
allows the member states to have several rights one of them being secession. The United Kingdom
was one of the original countries accepted in the enlargement of the ECSC it accepted upon

capital and workers within the EU, which was also accredited for the single market and the Euro

E Voting And Its Effect On Voting
Introduction
E voting is an e government concept that uses the Internet to allow people to vote. The use of e
voting is usually applied by countries and companies. In companies, this use of e voting can be
used in shareholder meetings or other instances where it is not physically possible for all
individuals with a vote to be present.
E voting is a new concept that has recently been used by countries that are not willing to dedicate
the necessary funds to provide paper votes. The use of e voting eliminates the use of paper and
ensures that voter turnout will be higher as it will eliminate issues with travelling to the voting
venue and waiting in any lines that may occur. In addition, the process of tallying votes will be far
faster since e voting will eliminate the manual counting of votes as well as issues such as the vote
counting machine malfunctioning. E votes will be counted using software designed to tally votes.
The concept of e voting has been analyzed to ensure that it is a fair process. The fairness of this
new type of voting will be critical to its acceptance. However, there is a portion of the population
which feels that the system can be easily manipulated and argue that the Internet is vulnerable to
hacker attacks, something that can lead to an invalid and unfair result. With advanced technology,
it should be relatively easy for IT experts to devise ways that will ensure that the system will not be
hacked.

Summary Of The Hurt Locker
The word hurt locker comes from military slang that means bad and painful place. Right away
the title of this poem catches the reader s attention because people who served in the military can
relate to the message and imagery of the poem. This poem is describing the life of a combat
deployed soldier in Iraq or in war in general. It is trying to get the readers to believe and use their
imagination when the poem states Believe it when a twelve year old rolls a grenade into the room
(Kennedy, 2012, p.532). The vast majority of people cannot imagine a twelve year old carrying a
grenade and using it to harm others. The Hurt Lockerverse is not a rhymepoem. It is a poem that
can make the readers understand the dangers soldiers face in war. The Hurt Locker can be
viewed different by every reader depending on experience. Veterans view of The Hurt Locker is
an imaginary locker where soldiers put their emotions the images that traumatized them things
they do not want to deal with again. The locker is where one must put their feelings and
emotions aside and remember that those people are out to kill you. As a combat soldier, one
must collect souls and let God decide their faith. This poem has elements that the reader can
imagine as they are reading the poem. The Hurt Locker poem stated facts like Or when a sniper

Infertility Fertility Benefits
Infertility is a heart breaking condition, which affects about 15 percent of the population of those
who are trying to conceive. Though the statistics vary, between 30 50 percent of these cases of
fertility are due to the male. This can be because of damaged sperm, low semen volume, or
difficulty maintaining an erection. Though infertilityis more common in older males, it can happen
to men of younger ages too. Many couples become so desperate to have a child that they turn to in
vitro fertilization after a year or more of trying with no success. This is very expensive though. A
much less costly option is to try fertilitysupplements instead. Some of the most popular ones to
take are the following:
L Arginine
This amino acid has numerous health benefits because of its ability to improve blood flow and
relax constricted blood vessels. Many heart patients take it to help prevent another heart attack
from occurring if they have previously had one before. Just as it helps increase heart flow
through the heart, it can do the same for a man who is struggling with maintaining an erection.
More blood flow to the genitals also increases their libido, and the more a couple has sex, the
more likely conception can take place. L Arginine also has a positive effect on sperm quality and
production. When taken by a man who has intercourse with his ... Show more content on

The most important factor in determining an independent contractor versus employee status of a

they could only work during the games plus the additional hour before that is required to get all
of the equipment and peanuts ready to sell. There was a specific procedure to how the
employees were supposed to go about their work for that day. The employees will first show up
and pick up their carrier. From that point, the employee will go and scoop/bag the peanuts they
are going to sell. At the end of the game there is a final tally of how many bags were sold, and
whoever sold the most would receive a 20 dollar bonus. The employees must wear uniforms,

The Potential And Its Effects On Cancer Cells
Limitless replicative potential is an acquired capability of many cancer cells, and it was listed as
one of the original hallmarks of cancer [1]. It is mostly achieved by upregulation of telomerase, a
reverse transcriptase DNA synthesis enzyme that maintains the telomeres length. Most tumor cells
have a high level of telomerase activity but short telomeres due to prior divisions before achieving
telomerase activating malignancies [2]. In contrast, normal progenitor cells and stem cells have
relatively long telomeres and lower mitotic/telomerase activity, and in normal differentiated somatic
cells telomerase expression is repressed. Thus, telomerase inhibition provides an attractive
therapeutic opportunity because of its universality, criticality and specificity for cancercells [3].
Numerous strategies have been proposed for silencing this enzyme [reviewed in 2 3], but due to
heterogeneity and complexity of cancers, as well as polymorphisms in human genomes, the search
for effective and precise treatments for polymerase inhibition is still active.
Nanotechnology is the latest evolving field, and its applications in cancer therapeutics have
demonstrated great potential. Specifically, nanomedicine utilizes the advantages of nanodelivery
systems [4]. The nanocarrier system is a new system for transporting biological molecules that has
the advantages of being highly efficient, non immunogenic, safe, inexpensive, biodegradable, and
stable [4].

Aratus Shift In The Mangrove Tree Crabs
As the world around us warms, places that originally were too cold for certain species become their
new ideal habitat. Sometimes however, animals and plants that once inhabited the same area move
at different speeds, creating new interspecies interactions. Mangrove tree crabs, Aratus pisonii,
originally inhabited only the natural range of the mangrove tree. The current range of the mangrove
tree along the East coast starts at Jacksonville, Florida and continues south. Aratus depends on the
mangrove not only for shelter, but for their main food source as well. The crabs remain in the trees,
traveling vertically during high tide to avoid aquatic predation. Mangroves act as protection for the

Both treatments were set up in the mangrove and salt marsh environments and left alone for an
hour. Upon returning, researchers recorded the number of Aratus eaten and those with missing legs.
Predation rates in both mangroves and salt marshes were higher when crabs were submerged than
when unsubmerged, revealing higher aquatic predation in both environments. Leg detachment rates
were higher in both salt marsh treatments. Smith theorizes that the difference is due to the crab
body width to substrate width ratio. Mangroves are thicker than spartina grass, providing Aratus
with more shelter and areas to retreat to when pursued. Aratus in salt marshes, however, have a
higher body to substrate width ratio, allowing for both easier spotting by prey and fewer places to
retreat to. Additionally, there is a greater area for escape on the mangrove trees than on spartina
grass. Instead of being restricted to downward movement into the predator filled waters, Aratus
exhibit the ability to move upward into the mangrove

Centennial Catalyst Newspaper Analysis
Media newsprint specifically, is not merely words on a piece of paper. The same way that books
are more than letters scrambled on a page, newspapers are more than just the articles on them. Even
locally, there is a distinct connection between democracy and the media. The Centennial Catalyst,
Centennial Secondary School s newspaper was created in 1966 and up until 2014, it was the
independent voice of the students. That was before it was cancelled. A combination of a lack of
students to contribute and budget cuts, the newspaper found itself discontinued; then the 2015
school year came along. This new year brought along new money and new students and therefore
the reinvigoration of the Catalyst. This was my first experience with the newspaper,... Show more

Democracy in media, this is the topic of this essay, but before I get to that I m going to spoil the
ending. At the beginning of the current school year, the Catalyst had been cancelled again, no one
had fought for it, no one wanted it, and no one respected it. The blood sweat and tears that half
dozen students and I poured into this publication had been pushed over into the pile of reject
courses our school would no longer carry. There is no guarantee that Centennial will ever have a
newspaper again and that any other future student will get to read or write an article on from the
Catalyst. Democracy. The Meridian Webster Dictionary defines this word as meaning, government
by the people. At the same time as I was writing for the Catalyst, I was also fighting a battle for
democracy in our student government. VOX, meaning voice in Latin, was the original name for the
student government at Centennial. For the 2015 school year, everything changed, the election
system formerly used was now gone. The power to choose representatives was taken away from the
students and put into the hands of our schools socials department. The name was also changed from
VOX to Student Council, they could no longer call themselves VOX

Managing The Population Through Education And Birth...
When the world celebrated the 7 billionth baby s birth in Manila a few years back, we were
stepping in a society with noticeable population explosion. Those overpopulated societies which can
no longer sustain themselves invade the natural environment which belongs to wildlife and over
exploit natural resources for survival. Human beings are supposed to be responsible for the majority
of environmental problems, while overpopulationexacerbates most problems such as pollution,
deforestation, global warming, etc. Thus, to save the world from those environmental crises we
should attach more importance on the people that cause them rather than just reply on developing
technology to fix the problem its own. Managing the populationthrough education and birth
control policy is what we can do with global joint efforts. Reminding the public of our population
problem, providing an option of birth control to families and guiding the public to live
sustainably will slow down the population growth, and hopefully in the long sense reduce world s
population. Most importantly, such declining population which owns greener lifestyle creates a
benign and harmonious relationship with the planet. The UNICEF estimates that an average of
353,000 babies are born each day; this means a baby is born to the world every two seconds.
About 60 years ago, the world s population is less than a half of what it is right now. Therefore, if
the population continue to grow with this rate, the

The Pros And Cons Of Religious Persecution
When you think yours is the only true path you forever chain yourself to judging others and
narrow the vision of God. The road to righteousness and arrogance is a parallel road that can
intersect each other several times throughout a person s life. It s often hard to recognize one road
from another. What makes them different is the road to righteousness is paved with the love of
humanity. The road to arrogance is paved with the love of self. (Shannon L. Alder). This means
many people are acquitted but some people still are tormenting them without any resistant. Crime,
hate, torture, and violence all lead to religious persecution. Every person in the world has its own
personality and belief. These beliefs cause opponents between people and to seek revenge these
people persecute one of their enemy groups with a different belief.... Show more content on

This persecution didn t recoil right now, but started long ago, most of the genocide occurred
because of race and religious diversity. The Burma genocide occurred because of the abhorrence
of Buddhist towards Rohingya Muslims. More than 62% of religious persecution happens
towards Muslims (Stop Religious Persecution). Every person in the world has a right to not be
persecuted because of their believe. Should religious persecution occur in any country such as:
Iran, Iraq, Syria, Pakistan, or Turkmenistan? Should there be violence and threat towards people
because of their belief? Is it possible to stop this tragedy event happening in many countries? Or
will there be an end towards hatred, violence, and death? Every person can give a helping hand and
stand up for what they think is right. Religious persecution has consciousness towards it; many of
the people and organization work on impeding religious persecution, and each person can take an
action to support towards barring persecution towards people with different

An Analysis of Common Sense Essay
As the year 1776 began in the American colonies, tension with King George III s England was at
perhaps an all time high. Americans were frustrated with the actions of their rulers overseas. Taxes
and trade restrictions had been placed on them, and British and mercenary soldiers occupied their
towns and cities. There had even been fighting at Lexington, Concord, and BunkerHill. As America
grew, England s hold on it tightened, and a few voices began speaking of independence. The
loudest and most convincing of these belonged to Thomas Paine, born in England and living in
Philadelphia. His pamphlet, Common Sense, expressed the argument for American independencein
a way no one had before and had a great influenceon the Declaration of... Show more content on

It claims all monarchs are despots, cut off from their people and craving for absolute power. Male
and female are the distinctions of nature, Paine wrote, good and bad the distinctions of heaven; but
how a race of men came into the world so exalted above the rest . . . is worth enquiring into (Paine
9). Government is a necessary evil, a badge of lost innocence, that tends to get in the way of
civilized society. Modern civilizations should organize themselves into local, self governing
societies with only representational government, suggested Paine, not an all powerful monarch. Of
more worth is one honest man to society, and in the sight of God, than all the crowned ruffians that
ever lived (Paine 17). Paine went on to speak in more conventional terms about the specific nature
of the conflict. He had anticipated that readers would be startled by his conclusions, and defended
against possible objections. Uncertainty in the British Empire, some caused by disturbances in
America, was bad for commerce. England would continue to drag Americans into European wars
that were not their affair, said Paine, and protect them only when beneficial to themselves.
Americans would not require their protection; they already had the means to defend their land.
Distance and poor communication across the Atlantic made the centers of government remote from
the colonists. Common Sense stressed the need for and the power of unity among the American

Marx s Explanation Of Class Conflict Theory
Marx propound the power conflict known as class conflict theory. Class conflict theory first
describe the defination of history and power, in history which class had been power and how to
use that power to other people and what effect to other people. The people who had power, they
dominate the subclass people. These senario was seen in current life. Marx believe there are two
type of class, first wealthy ( those are owner of mean of production or capatalist) and second
poor ( those are working class, labor). Marx said that wealthy class people or majority of people
dominate minority people. The wealthy people has power and financially rich and they used that
power to get political power. How can they get political power? In present day, we can see that by
gaining vote to pay money for voter. Even today rich people buy political power at the cost of
money. One they get political power, they make policy by changing the outline of society then what
happen they get social power with this they dominate the working class people so that class conflict
occur. Marx said that capitalist control mean of production. Capitalist influence the school system
to impose their own thought to the other people. So that education system directly... Show more

The Romance Language
In today s society, almost everyone is familiar with the languages of Spanish, Italian, French,
Portuguese, Romanian, and Catalan, or better known as the Romance languages . One might
wonder as to why they are commonly known as the Romance languages, and the simple answer is
that all these languages lead back to the language of the Romans: Latin. Latin became a language
commonly used during the start of the city of Rome, around the Tiber River, in the seventh century
B.C., but unfortunately came to an end during the Second Vatican Council from 1962 to 1965,
where the Catholic Church made the decision to change the language of the liturgies from Latin to
the vernacular language of the area. Although the Latin language is considered dead in modern
society, the evolution of Latin into the Romantic languages has been able to influence billions of
speakers since the ninth century. One might be inquisitive as to how a language can change over
time, but languages do not just change, they evolve, as well. Language is a natural growth, and not
an instrument which we shape for our own purposes (Orwell 707). Languages cannot change by
force, but rather will change over a period of time with the help of society to influence the
development of words and phrases. The evolution of languages comes naturally, usually with
influences from other spoken languages close enough to the main region where a language is
spoken. These changes enter the language, and, with time, the language has

Symptoms Of Dissociative Identity Disorder
Mary believes nothing is wrong with us. Steven refuses to tell us what he thinks because he only
shows himself sporadically, or when we are upset. Beth only appears when we feel threatened.
Manny claims we are all just plain psychopaths. Syd will tell you that dissociative identity disorder
is a real debilitating condition that fewer than 200,000 United States citizens will be diagnosed
with per year.
Dissociative identity disorder is a disorder in which a patient may have multiple personalities or
identities. DID been around for decades and is one of the most misunderstood and controversial
diagnoses in the field of psychology because it has been sensationalized in books, films, and
media. DID diagnoses are steadily increasing which causes ... Show more content on

Because of this, viewers only hear about extreme aspects of DID and the majority of the ones
they hear of are simply not accurate. For example, the media almost always assigns a maniacal
alter to a patient, which, in reality, is uncommon. This year, 2017, a movie called Split, depicted
a man suffering from DID. His alters grew in power and created an identity called the Beast ,
who was capable of changing his own body into a taller and stronger creature who then starts a
bone shaking killing spree. This kind of alter is incredibly rare in Dissociative identity disorder
cases. Most changes in identity are very casual or subtle, such as a change in tone of voice or
attitude, similar to any other person experiencing a mood change. Most DID sufferers stay in the
mental health system for an average of seven years before they receive a proper

There are some applicable domestic laws and international treaties in Nigeria for regulating the activities of multinational oil companies through human rights enforcement and protection of the environment. 3.1 NATIONAL LAWS As sovereign nation, Nigeria has power to enact laws relating to foreign investment and for human right protection of her citizens. On the other hand Nigeria has signed several BITs for protection of the foreign investor (including MNCs) but these BITs must be reconciled with need for the foreign investors to recognise human right provisions in the Nigerian legal system. It implies that pollution of the environment in the Niger Delta Area of Nigeria by the MNCs coupled with other human right abuses is tantamount to deprivation of rights to life and human dignity. Section 9(1)(b)(iii) of the Petroleum Act 1969 provides that the Minster of Petroleum can make laws relating to prevention of pollution of water courses and the atmosphere . Further provisions against pollution of the marine environment in the course of oil drilling is in Regulation 25 of the Petroleum (Drilling and Production) Regulations 1969 made pursuant to the Petroleum Act. However the law lacks defined standard to guard against pollution. The requirements that the MNCs should carry out exploration of oil in proper and workmanlike manner and with good oil field practice are vague and do not define any standard . The Associated Gas Re injection Act 1979 which seeks to restrict and regulate flaring of associated gas provides for period of time within which the oil companies would begin to re inject gas and cease gas flaring, a major source of environmental pollution and health hazard. Section 3 of the Act provides that gas flaring would cease by 1 January 1984 but by a proviso the Minister of Petroleum could continue to permit oil companies to flare gas after the date. The current position is that the Minister has permitted gas flaring overtime and deadline has been shifted severally without any good result . The last ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For this reason, one might deduce that addiction would no longer exist if a scientist were to create a way to block the dopamine reward neural basis of addiction. However, elimination of addiction is more complex than that as it requires treatment of its the neurological, psychological, genetic, and environmental components. Thousands of years later this is still relevant and gives an important to today s youth: don t believe everything you hear. Today, many adolescents use websites like Google and Wikipedia to help them research for any projects. They see it as a quick way to answer any question because all they have to do is type in the question and write down what the screen tell them. Moran, an Irish student by the name of Shane Fitzgerald posted a fake quotation on a Wikipedia article about a deceased French composer named Maurice Jarre. This proves that, while the person behind the screen publishing this article may know it is false, it can appear just as trustworthy as any other fact in the article. It also says in the article Warming Up to the Culture of Wikipedia by Noam Cohen, ...many curators are suspicious of a site where anyone can create and edit an article, and where the assertions of expertise are greeted with skepticism or, at best, a shrug. • 9. Violence In Things Fall Apart Essay Violence in Things Fall Apart In great literature, no scene of violence exists for its own sake. Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe uses violence as a means to portray the struggles between change and tradition. The scene that captures this struggle the best is the murder of Ikemefuna. Within in the scene the reader is both exposed to the traditions of Umuofia and the Ibo culture as well as, the struggle and moral hardships they place on the people of the tribe. The killing of Ikemefuna exemplifies the struggle between tradition and change that occurs throughout the entirety of the novel. Ikemefuna was brought to Umuofia as payment for the killing of a young women from the tribe. The clan leaders decided that Ikemefuna would live with Okonkwo at his compound. Throughout the murder of Ikemefuna Okonkwo has an inner struggle between choosing to breakaway from what is expected of him and save the boy or what is the tradition of the Ibo culture (61). He chooses the latter and slices Ikemefuna down with his machete. The violence of the scene is then contrasted by the morose tone of the portion of the novel that immediately follows. • 10. The Constructivist View Of Learning In any classroom, the constructivist view of learning can point towards a number of different teaching methods. The constructivist view usually means encouraging students to use active techniques such as experiments, real world problem solving, to create more knowledge for themselves and then for the students to reflect and talk about what they did and how their understanding changed. (Educational Broadcasting Corporation, 2004). This view of learninggoes hand in hand with an agriculture educational classroom that bases their curriculum around the FFA program and the three circle model: instruction, supervised agricultural experience and student leadership organizations. The FFA motto is Learning to Do, Doing to Learn, Earning to Live, Living to Serve. (National FFA Organization , 2014) Constructivism refers to the idea that learners construct knowledge for themselves and that each learner individually and socially construct meaning as he or she learns. In the views of constructivism, there is no such thing as knowledge independent of the knower, but only knowledge that the student constructs for themselves as they learn. According the constructivist theory, learning is not understanding the true nature of things, nor is it remembering dimly perceived perfect ideas perfect ideas, but rather a personal and social construction of meaning out of the bewildering array of sensations which have no order or structure besides the explanations which educators fabricate ... Impact of Silent Spring When excerpts of Silent Spring first began appearing in The New Yorkermagazine in June 1962, they caused an uproar and brought a howl of indignation from the chemical industry. Supporters of the pesticide industry argued that her book gave an incomplete picture because it did not say anything about the benefits of using pesticides. An executive of the American Cyanamid Company complained, if man were to faithfully follow the teachings of Miss Carson, we would return to the Dark Ages, and the insects and diseases and vermin would once again inherit the earth. Chemical manufacturers began undertaking a more aggressive public relations campaign to educate the public on the benefits of pesticide use. Monsanto, for example, published and distributed 5,000 copies of a brochure parodying Silent Spring entitled The Desolate Year, which explained how chemical pesticides were largely responsible for the virtual eradication of diseases such as malaria, yellow fever, sleeping sickness, and typhus in the United States and throughout the world, and that without the assistance of pesticides in agricultural production millions around the world would suffer from malnutrition or starve to death (NRDC 1997). • 15. The Importance Of Intolerance Of Puritans In The Crucible As famously written by George Orwell, Big Brother is watching you. In the eyes of the Puritans, God is the Big Brother watching over them in their mission to become the city upon a hill. They devote themselves to pleasing Him, eventually becoming obsessed with their status as the paragon of a Puritansociety. However, as their ideologies become increasingly restrictive, their intolerance of misconduct also consolidates, and their utmost faithfulness ultimately leads to their untimely destruction. While John Winthrop, the governor of the MassachusettsBay Colony, delivers A Model of Christian Charity, laying out the societal expectations of Puritans, Jonathan Edwards in Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God aggressively warns the Puritans of the wrath of God, and Arthur Miller denounces their flawed ideology and the paranoia it induces in The Crucible. In 1692, the small, quaint town of SalemVillage is in absolute mayhem when a group of young girls claim there is evil amongst them. Due to their intolerance of imperfections in their community, Puritans mark the beginning of the Salem witch trials and their doom. Despite their original objective to create a utopian society based purely on faithfulness, the Puritans unquenchable thirst for protecting their reputation creates a domino effect of events provoking their downfall. The Puritans need for perfection due to their God given responsibility to maintain their status as the city upon a hill is inherently dangerous to their society. Rather than confront and fix imperfections in their community, the authorities dangerously label them as evil, which becomes a corrupt case of terrible victory of prejudice over reason (Shapiro). Their incessant desire to be a flawless, united group of quintessential Puritans becomes a threat to their existence as they attempt to prevent any kind of disunity that might open it to destruction by material or ideological enemies, a tactic utilized by any fanatical group (Miller 5). It is imperative for citizens to have the same mindset and share the same ideologies, however, if an individual speaks against the accepted beliefs, he is believed to be a threat to society and therefore is alienated and exterminated, an ... The issue is whether the European Union (EU) has in this time grown into a supranational form of governance with the establishment of treaties, or have the nation states stayed in control. I am going to argue that the EU s supranational qualities are the allocation of shared common interests among the nation states that compose it. The use of e voting is usually applied by countries and companies. In companies, this use of e voting can be used in shareholder meetings or other instances where it is not physically possible for all individuals with a vote to be present. E voting is a new concept that has recently been used by countries that are not willing to dedicate the necessary funds to provide paper votes. The use of e voting eliminates the use of paper and ensures that voter turnout will be higher as it will eliminate issues with travelling to the voting venue and waiting in any lines that may occur. In addition, the process of tallying votes will be far faster since e voting will eliminate the manual counting of votes as well as issues such as the vote counting machine malfunctioning. E votes will be counted using software designed to tally votes. The concept of e voting has been analyzed to ensure that it is a fair process. The fairness of this new type of voting will be critical to its acceptance. However, there is a portion of the population which feels that the system can be easily manipulated and argue that the Internet is vulnerable to hacker attacks, something that can lead to an invalid and unfair result. • 27. The Potential And Its Effects On Cancer Cells Limitless replicative potential is an acquired capability of many cancer cells, and it was listed as one of the original hallmarks of cancer [1]. It is mostly achieved by upregulation of telomerase, a reverse transcriptase DNA synthesis enzyme that maintains the telomeres length. Most tumor cells have a high level of telomerase activity but short telomeres due to prior divisions before achieving telomerase activating malignancies [2]. In contrast, normal progenitor cells and stem cells have relatively long telomeres and lower mitotic/telomerase activity, and in normal differentiated somatic cells telomerase expression is repressed. Thus, telomerase inhibition provides an attractive therapeutic opportunity because of its universality, criticality and specificity for cancercells [3]. Numerous strategies have been proposed for silencing this enzyme [reviewed in 2 3], but due to heterogeneity and complexity of cancers, as well as polymorphisms in human genomes, the search for effective and precise treatments for polymerase inhibition is still active. Nanotechnology is the latest evolving field, and its applications in cancer therapeutics have demonstrated great potential. Specifically, nanomedicine utilizes the advantages of nanodelivery systems [4]. It was during this era that the Magna Carta s message of justice, fairness, and freedom had a substantial influence on King Henry III s subjects. These core values epitomize several rights based declarations around the world. Particularly, there has been international... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 532). The creation of the Bill of Rights mirrored the demands of British rebels during the King John era. The extrapolation of the Magna Carta for the United States Bill of Rights is rather ironic because Americans based their resistance mainly on the rights they shared with Britons in Britain not to be taxed without their own consent, rights that they traced back to Magna Carta (Conway, n.d.). By crafting a document that had already been revered by the same leadership by different subjects, the Americans forced the British government to either comply or submit to hypocrisy. Ultimately, it was through this strategic diplomacy as well as well fought battles throughout the 13 colonies that allowed Americans to eventually benefit from a decent ... Contemporary Approaches to Management Contemporary Approaches to Management and their Environments The different approaches to management have been changed, fine tuned and discarded over the years. In the coming paragraphs we will take a look at the contemporary approaches. We will examine how they compare to each other as well as if they can be utilized in the three types of environments; internal, competitive and macro environment. • 41. Type 2 Diabetes Type 2 Essay Type 2 Diabetes is a disease that is found in a variety of age groups around the world. This disease is growing at a rapid rate and it is impacting the health of this generation and future generations to come. Diabetes is a disease that impairs the body s ability to produce or respond to the insulin hormone produced by the pancreas. The insulinallows for the glucose to be effectively used as energy throughout the body. Diabetes causes carbohydrates to be abnormally digested, which can raise blood glucose levels. This means that the glucose is not being taken up by the cells that need it. The cells cannot take up the excess glucose that has accumulated in the blood, so it is excreted through the urine. This can lead to problems with the kidneys, central nervous system, heart, and eyes because high blood glucose can damage the blood vessels of these organs. The same way that books are more than letters scrambled on a page, newspapers are more than just the articles on them. Even locally, there is a distinct connection between democracy and the media. The Centennial Catalyst, Centennial Secondary School s newspaper was created in 1966 and up until 2014, it was the independent voice of the students. That was before it was cancelled. A combination of a lack of students to contribute and budget cuts, the newspaper found itself discontinued; then the 2015 school year came along. This new year brought along new money and new students and therefore the reinvigoration of the Catalyst. This was my first experience with the newspaper,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Democracy in media, this is the topic of this essay, but before I get to that I m going to spoil the ending. At the beginning of the current school year, the Catalyst had been cancelled again, no one had fought for it, no one wanted it, and no one respected it. The blood sweat and tears that half dozen students and I poured into this publication had been pushed over into the pile of reject courses our school would no longer carry. There is no guarantee that Centennial will ever have a newspaper again and that any other future student will get to read or write an article on from the Catalyst. Democracy. The Meridian Webster Dictionary defines this word as meaning, government by the people. At the same time as I was writing for the Catalyst, I was also fighting a battle for democracy in our student government. VOX, meaning voice in Latin, was the original name for the student government at Centennial. For the 2015 school year, everything changed, the election system formerly used was now gone. The power to choose representatives was taken away from the students and put into the hands of our schools socials department. The name was also changed from VOX to Student Council, they could no longer call themselves VOX ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Managing The Population Through Education And Birth... When the world celebrated the 7 billionth baby s birth in Manila a few years back, we were stepping in a society with noticeable population explosion. Those overpopulated societies which can no longer sustain themselves invade the natural environment which belongs to wildlife and over exploit natural resources for survival. Human beings are supposed to be responsible for the majority of environmental problems, while overpopulationexacerbates most problems such as pollution, deforestation, global warming, etc. Thus, to save the world from those environmental crises we should attach more importance on the people that cause them rather than just reply on developing technology to fix the problem its own. Managing the populationthrough education and birth control policy is what we can do with global joint efforts. Reminding the public of our population problem, providing an option of birth control to families and guiding the public to live sustainably will slow down the population growth, and hopefully in the long sense reduce world s population. Most importantly, such declining population which owns greener lifestyle creates a benign and harmonious relationship with the planet. The UNICEF estimates that an average of 353,000 babies are born each day; this means a baby is born to the world every two seconds. About 60 years ago, the world s population is less than a half of what it is right now. Therefore, if the population continue to grow with this rate, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The road to righteousness and arrogance is a parallel road that can intersect each other several times throughout a person s life. It s often hard to recognize one road from another. What makes them different is the road to righteousness is paved with the love of humanity. The road to arrogance is paved with the love of self. (Shannon L. Alder). This means many people are acquitted but some people still are tormenting them without any resistant. Crime, hate, torture, and violence all lead to religious persecution. Americans were frustrated with the actions of their rulers overseas. Taxes and trade restrictions had been placed on them, and British and mercenary soldiers occupied their towns and cities. There had even been fighting at Lexington, Concord, and BunkerHill. As America grew, England s hold on it tightened, and a few voices began speaking of independence. The loudest and most convincing of these belonged to Thomas Paine, born in England and living in Philadelphia. It claims all monarchs are despots, cut off from their people and craving for absolute power. Male and female are the distinctions of nature, Paine wrote, good and bad the distinctions of heaven; but how a race of men came into the world so exalted above the rest . . . is worth enquiring into (Paine 9). Government is a necessary evil, a badge of lost innocence, that tends to get in the way of civilized society. Modern civilizations should organize themselves into local, self governing societies with only representational government, suggested Paine, not an all powerful monarch. Of more worth is one honest man to society, and in the sight of God, than all the crowned ruffians that ever lived (Paine 17). Paine went on to speak in more conventional terms about the specific nature of the conflict. He had anticipated that readers would be startled by his conclusions, and defended against possible objections. Uncertainty in the British Empire, some caused by disturbances in America, was bad for commerce. England would continue to drag Americans into European wars that were not their affair, said Paine, and protect them only when beneficial to themselves. Americans would not require their protection; they already had the means to defend their land. Distance and poor communication across the Atlantic made the centers of government remote from the colonists. Common Sense stressed the need for and the power of unity among the American ... • 47. The Romance Language In today s society, almost everyone is familiar with the languages of Spanish, Italian, French, Portuguese, Romanian, and Catalan, or better known as the Romance languages . One might wonder as to why they are commonly known as the Romance languages, and the simple answer is that all these languages lead back to the language of the Romans: Latin. Latin became a language commonly used during the start of the city of Rome, around the Tiber River, in the seventh century B.C., but unfortunately came to an end during the Second Vatican Council from 1962 to 1965, where the Catholic Church made the decision to change the language of the liturgies from Latin to the vernacular language of the area. Although the Latin language is considered dead in modern society, the evolution of Latin into the Romantic languages has been able to influence billions of speakers since the ninth century. One might be inquisitive as to how a language can change over time, but languages do not just change, they evolve, as well. Language is a natural growth, and not an instrument which we shape for our own purposes (Orwell 707). Languages cannot change by force, but rather will change over a period of time with the help of society to influence the development of words and phrases. The evolution of languages comes naturally, usually with influences from other spoken languages close enough to the main region where a language is spoken. These changes enter the language, and, with time, the language has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
