The Effects Of Rape Culture And The Psychological Post...
When discussing genocide, it is simpler to discuss the overall impact of the collective to create an
elaborate visualization of the horrific events incurred by genocide, than to focus on the impact of a
single genocidaire. The victims of genocidal violence are given a respectable amount of attention,
because they are the victims of atrocities and they deserve justice and recognition for their
sufferings. Due to the recent influx on research into the sociological effects of rapeculture and the
psychological post traumatic effects of rape, research on the utilization of rape in genocidehas
become increasingly popular among academics of all disciplines. Unfortunately, little research
has been done on how genocidaires, who were once regular civilians of a state, electively join in
the execution of mass violence through committing rape and murder. Modern sociologists and
psychologists have yet to define a collection of definitive characteristics of the genocide rapist, as
the majority of research is done on individual perpetrators have had contact with the criminal
justice system and are likely incarcerated. While extensive research has been done on the
characteristics of living victims, the genocidaire rapist, however, is unlikely to be individually
targeted and charged with sexual assault, let alone be analyzed by behavioral scientists for
diagnostic research. Assuming that not all people are inherently born with the will to kill and
commit sexual violence, it s important to

U.s. Taxpayers Paid $ 256 Billion For Healthcare
In 1980, U.S. taxpayers paid $256 billion for healthcare services. In 2012, they paid nearly $2.8
trillion for healthcare services (Centers for Medicare Medicaid Services. 2012). This represents a
tenfold increase in a single generation. Although some of the most expensive medical conditions to
treat may not be preventable, there are a myriad of preventable diseases that add to the economic
burden that Americans carry each year. When one also considers the rise in childhood obesity rates
and other related and non related chronic illnesses, the role of nurses as educators in our schools
and communities has become critical to the continued success of our nation.
In 2009, data were collected by the National Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) that clearly
demonstrated the relationship between health risk behaviors and academic achievement in high
school students. Students with higher grades were less likely to engage in health risk behaviors
such as cigarette smoking, alcohol use, unhealthy diets, and increased sexual activity.
Unfortunately, the statistics reported by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for
health risk behaviors in American adults were grim. In 2012, 42 million adults reported that they
smoked cigarettes and nearly 47% of American adults have at least one major risk factor for heart
disease or stroke. These included uncontrolled high blood pressure, uncontrolled high levels of
LDL cholesterol, lack of aerobic exercise, and poor nutrition.

Summary Of Jackie Robinson A Letter To Dwight Eisenhower
On May 13, 1958, Jackie Robinson wrote a letter to Former President Dwight Eisenhower. The letter
contained Robinson s opinion regarding a recent meeting, the Summit Meeting of Negro Leaders,
which he had just attended. Robinson was discontent with what he heard at the meeting and wrote
the letter to convince Eisenhower that patience was not the solution to racial discriminationin
America.
In the short letter, Robinson begins by showing his disagreement to Eisenhower s statement saying
America should have patience in order to end discrimination. The president shocked him by
suggesting 17 million African Americans wait for the rights he knew they already should ve
obtained. Believing that once again another president was going to ignore their existence, he
thought African Americans would lose their spirit of freedom. This is the reason he uses to justify
why African Americans are aggressively pursuing their goals. Near the end of the letter, Robinson
begins to talk about General Faubus as the adversary to Eisenhower. Unlike Robinson, Faubus was
trying to delay anti segregation laws and from Robinson s perspective, he was trying to return
African Americans to slavery. The letter concludes with Robinson suggesting Eisenhower make a
strong statement supporting civil rights so the country would know that the government is on the
side of justice. To understand the meaning behind Jackie Robinson s statements, information about
his life must be known. Robinson is a former Major

Compare The Baroque Style Of King Louis XIV Of France
The Baroque style is very frilly and uses a lot of detail and expensive materials. One way that
King Louis XIV of France used the Baroque style to represent himself as an absolute monarch
was to to build the palace of Versailles. The palace of Versailles is is a grand palace that was once
a small hunting lodge. Louis turned it into a grand palace with vast gardens, and thousands of
rooms. Each space emulates the Baroquestyle in its furnishings and ornamental decoration. Nothing
on the grounds was left to nature. Each plant was kept neat and immaculate. One way that he
showed his power as absolute monarch was his ability to eat tropical fruits in the dead of winter.
The palace of Versailleshad green houses that allowed him the privilege to

Theory In Nursing Practice
Application of Theory The role of theory in clinical nursing practice is to guide assessment,
interventions, and evaluation of nursing care. Theory in nursing practice provides a rationale for
collecting reliable and valid data about the health status of clients, which are essential for effective
decision making and implementation. Nursing theory also serves as a guide assessment,
interventions, and evaluation of nursing practice. Theories can address important questions for
nursing units. Theories can be grand, middle range and practice. Grand theories provide a complex
and broad scope and incorporate numerous ways of viewing concepts in nursing. Middle range
nursing theories are narrower in scope and offer an effective bridge between grand nursing theories
and nursing practice. The Ida J. Orlando s middle range nursing theory provides a nursing
foundation for nursing leaders to utilize both in the management of patient care and leadership.
When applying Orlando s theory, nursing leaders can identify perceptions, thoughts and feelings
about patients care, then educate nursing staff on meeting the patient s needs. The theory combines
competent nursing practice and customer satisfaction. Meeting the patient s needs reduces patient
distress levels. Bedside nurses must be diligent and confident of their nursing skills. When provided
with great leadership, nurses will feel more confident in their ability to provide quality patient care.

Essay on The Evolution of Reptiles
There are four main groups of reptiles, known as Crocodilians, Squamates, Tuataras, and Turtles.
Crocodilians consists of large reptiles which includes alligators, crocodiles, gharials, and
caimans. Squamates are lizards, snakes, and worm lizards. A worm lizard is a subterranean
burrowing reptile that resembles an earthworm, a legless lizard. Tuataras are a group of reptiles
that are lizard like in appearance but are different from squamates because their skull isn t jointed.
Turtles are the most ancient reptiles alive today. They have changed very little since they first
showed up 220 million years ago. The first turtle appeared 220 million years ago.(Laura

Amphibians skin is moist and they do not consist of scales. The skin of an amphibian is also
permeable. Permeable means that gases can pass through their skin. A reptiles scales provide
them with a protective layer of skin that is tough and dry. The scales help to minimize the loss of
body moisture, the reptilian scales consists of a protein called keratin. The scale structure of a
reptile are not individual like those of a fish, but are a continuous sheet of epidermal tissue. Hard
shelled eggs provide a protective environment in which the embryo can develop and enables
reptiles to lay their eggs in dry environments. On the other hand, amphibians must lay their eggs in
or near water. The reptilian skeleton differs from other vertebrates in many ways. For example,
reptiles have many bones in their lower jaw to enable them a greater bite mobility, but mammals
only have one bone in their lower jaw called the mandible. Mammals ears consist of three bones(the
malleus, incus, and stapes) while reptiles have just one bone(stapes). Reptiles also have only one
occipital condyle(a protrusion on the skull that forms a joint that enables movement of the head)
mammals on the other hand consist of two occipital condyles (Laura Klappenbach 2014).
Scientists say reptiles evolved from amphibians 340 million years ago. The first reptile was an
insect eater. Reptiles were more adaptable and able to

Police And Crime Commissioners ( Pcc ) Have On Police...
The focal point of this literature is the influence the Police and Crime Commissioners (PCC) have
on police accountability and governance. The managerialism of policing in England and Wales is
examined through the introduction of the PCC, and their responsibilities and powers for
developing future strategies are assessed. The potential influence of the PCC on the role of the
chief constableand their relationship is considered. This article will also reflect on the opportunities
and challenges provided by the PCC and particularly the prospects of enhanced public
accountability of policing as a result.

The government became concerned about how effective police governance strategies were and
started a process of consultation of police reform (Home Office, 2003). Following the
deliberation under of 1962 Royal Commission on the police, accountability was distributed
between the Home Office, local police authority, and chief constable. The 1996 Police Act, Police
Reform Act 2002 and the Police and Magistrates Courts Act 1994 imposed the tripartite systems
groundwork, however it was not always uncontentious (Mawby and Wright, 2005 pp. 4). Some
argue that policing has become over centralised and distorted due to under governance, heavy with
bureaucracy which prevents police from policing efficiently. The PCC want to implement greater
local discretion and independence from central departments. From the election of the PCCs, more
influential powers will radiate from the public, they expect that electoral success will be reflected
in the local police activity; resulting in pressure being placed on the police from the PCC to
implement the programmes and priorities that brought the PCC to election success (Loveday, 2013
pp. 23). Also, the media and local pressure groups may exert pressure on them to keep election
promises.

Leishmaniasis
The Sting of The Sand Fly
By Jared Yeazell
Admittedly, since the beginning of time, disease has played a drastic role in the history of
society. It has affected economic conditions, wars, and natural disasters. The impact of any
disease can be far greater than some far better known catastrophes. In 1918, an epidemic of
influenza swept the globe, killing between 20 million and 40 million people. Within a few months,
more than 500,000 Americans had died. This is a number far greater than the number of people
killed during World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War

Physicians in the Indian subcontinent would describe it as Kala Azar. More recently, evidence of
the cutaneous form of the disease was found in the Ecuador and Peru in the pre Inca potteries
depicting king lesions and deformed faces dating back to the first century AD. Additionally, 15th
and 16th century texts from the Inca period and from the Spanish colonial mention Valley Sickness,
Andean Sickness, or White Leprosy which are likely to be Cutaneous Leishmaniasis.
Following this a little further, Leishmaniasis is usually transmitted in many tropical and subtropical
countries, and is found in certain parts of about 88 countries. Currently, approximately 350 million
people are living in these areas. It affects as many as 12 million people worldwide, with around 2
million new cases each year. Leishmaniasis is also found through much of the Americas from
northern Argentina to southern Texas, though not in Uruguay or Chile, and has recently been
shown to be spreading to north Texas. During 2004, it is estimated that around 3,400 Colombian
troops, operating in the jungles near the south of the country, were infected with Leishmaniasis.
Within Afghanistan, Leishmaniasis occurs commonly due to bad sanitations and waste left
uncollected in the streets. Additionally, Leishmaniasis has been reported by U.S. troops stationed
in Saudi Arabia and Iraq since the Gulf War of 1990. Also, in some areas of southern Europe,
Leishmaniasis is becoming an

Many people have experienced periodontal disease, which is a disease of the gums and surrounding
tissues. These conditions include gingivitis and periodontis and can be treated with good hygiene
and proper dental care. Black gum disease, or necrotizing periodontal disease, however, is an
uncommon but serious form of gum disease that requires immediate treatment. The disease kills the
gums, tissues and bones that surround the teeth and can be indicative of serious health problems.
What are the Symptoms of Black Gum Disease?

The Importance Of Federalism In The United States Government
When the founding fathers came together, they realized that they had important things to discuss.
Truthfully because The Articles of Confederation had not been efficient enough for the national
government. The Articles of Confederation left the national government without a judiciary and
independent executive, leaving Congress with most of the power; but it was largely a creature of
the states. This sparked conflicted amongst state which eventually lead to the government s debt.
Once The Founding Fathers realized the poor ethics that the Articles of Confederation had, the first
topic they felt the need to discuss had been federalism. As read in We the People textbook,
federalism means the Constitution s division of governing authority between two levels, nation and
states was the result of political bargaining. As I reflect back on previous lessons/discussions, I find
it that Federalism is an ideology that s written in the constitution to divide power between federal
and state government; even though the term is not bluntly stated. Honorably, the simulation
mirrored what took place in 1787, by having four interest groups and Senators from eight
delegations representing their states interest. The Senators main objective had been to reform the
Proposed Legislation for Federal Anti Smoking Standards bill that could potentially benefit both
their locals and local government. For the duration of the simulation, both the interest groups and
Senators demonstrated the

Teen Suicide Essays
Each year, thousands of children are dying, not from cancer, getting shot, or car accidents, but by
their own hands. They make the choice to take their lives; they commit suicide. To begin, what is
Suicide ? According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, suicide is the act or instance of taking one
s own life voluntarily and intentionally. The number of teenagers who take their lives is rapidly
increasing each year. Teen suicideis escalating out of control and no one seems to realize just how
severe the issue has become. Every day and average of 18 young Americans end their lives, one
every 90 minutes. The National Institute of Mental Health believes that as many as 50 150 suicides

Sexual and physical abuse are also contributing causes to the teen suicide epidemic. From these
types of abuse usually depression and other psychological disorders form, making the risk of
these youth committing suicide very high. Family support is important as well, A Teen with an
adequate support network of friends, family, and religious affiliations, peer groups or
extracurricular activities may have an outlet to deal with everyday frustrations, but many teen s
don t believe they have that, and feel disconnected and isolated from family and friends. These
teens have an increased risk for suicide (kidsHealth.org). Additionally the issue of sexuality and
an unsupportive family or peer group is also detrimental to the teen s psyche and plays a major
role in teen suicide. Lastly, sudden trauma in a teen s life is very influential on a suicide
decision. The loss of a parent, sibling, or loved one can cause the teen to react by committing or
attempting suicide. Teenagers are more at risk because they are in a stage of growth in their
lives, and thus the depression or trauma can create a feeling of isolation in their mind. In most
cases there are ways to detect when a person is planning to commit suicide before they actually
carry it out. Teen suicide can be prevented when the warning signs are recognized early on. It is
stated in many studies that teen suicide attempts have been preceded by clear warning

Aaron Collins knew he had to go to sleep soon. He turned clockwise and leaned from his desk

Regional Antibiotic Resistance Of Helicobacter Pylori
Review Article
Regional Antibiotic Resistance of Helicobacter pylori
Abstract
Antibiotic resistance is the main factor accounting for unsuccessful eradication of Helicobactor
pylori (H. pylori). Being knowledgeable of the regional resistance rates of H. pylori isolates can
regulate not only the empiric antibiotic therapy but also lead to second line treatment and rescue
regiments. At present, the most common treatment is empiric eradication, thus, global regional
regiment therapies should be based upon regional in vitro antibiotic resistance rates. This approach
is crucial in successfully treating the individual patient. However, in regions where antibiotic
susceptibility testing is unavailable, epidemiological data for secondary H. pylori resistance are
essential for the rational use of antibiotics following several treatment failures in. Primary H. pylori
resistance to clarithromycin is generally less prevalent worldwide than H. pylori resistance to
metronidazole. Secondary resistance that develops in vivo in previously susceptible organisms
has been documented in cases of therapeutic failures. All antibiotics used to treat H. pylori are also
widely employed to treat other bacterial infections, therefore, pretreatment exposure of H. pylori to
inadequate levels of these drugs as well as the use of inadequate regional antibiotics, is associated
with secondary resistance. Herein, we review regional resistance rates of H. pylori isolates to
clarithromycin, metronidazole and

The European Heritage Days aim to raise awareness of Europe s cultural richness and diversity, to
increase appreciation of Europe s cultural heritage, and encourage greater tolerance for other
cultures across Europe. They invited all of Europe to respond to the social, political, and economic
challenges of the culture sector. The European Heritage Days, launched in 1985, take place in the
fifty signatory states to the European Cultural Convention, putting new cultural treasures on display
and opening up historic buildings normally closed to the public. European Heritage sites are
milestones in the creation of today s Europe. To walk through one of these sites is to experience
European values and civilization in the making. These sites celebrate and symbolize European

Immigration Problems
Ayush Patel
American Lit B
Research Paper
27 September , 2017
In 2013, 13 percent of the U.S. population was foreign born. Current projections suggest that by
2065, nearly one in five people in the United States will have been born outside the country (Hing
25).3 Immigration has been an integral part of the United States since its colonial days. Over a
million legal and illegal immigrants take up residence in the United States each year. With the
country struggling to support the huge intake of new comers, life in America has been suffering
tremendously. The excessive stress put upon the welfare system, overuse of the family reunification
laws, and the exploitation of employment based immigration are reasons for immigration reform.
The American Government is trying to solve the deep rooted problems of immigration including
the 1965 law, Chain immigration, and Latino immigration.
Some factors from the past are widely responsible for the present immigration problems in the
United States. A major cause for all of the problems is the 1965 Immigration and Nationality Act.
The 1965 Immigration law prioritized the relatives of U.S. citizens, while others were not able to
settle in U.S. (Salam 24).2 The biased national origin quotas of 1920s was replaced by the 1965
law, which focused on family unification ( Hing 25).4 This Act has kept some restrictions for the
immigration from Europe and Asia. The law set numerical restrictions on visas at 170,000 per year.
But, this law has

persecution present during this period. Thousands of people were convicted, and even those that

The justification behind this was that any Communist that was working with the ports was a
security risk between Russia and the United States. At first, almost all of the unions of dockworkers
and seamen joined in this program, because they were all anticommunist. After some time, the
Coast Guard became involved in the program. The Coast Guard took over many functions that the
unions had been handling by themselves when it came to this project, and this was met by growing
hostility from the unions as well as the individual employers. After the involvement of the Coast
Guard, many unions became angry and hostile toward the Coast Guard: There was considerable
opposition on the part of the maritime unions to the original transfer of these functions to the Coast
Guard and this antagonism toward the Coast Guard has not altogether abated. (Brown/Fassett). Not
only did this lead to a huge invasion of privacy, nearly 3,800 seamen and dockworkers lost their
jobs under the West Coast Port Security Program that had been established in the immediate
aftermath of the Korean War (Schrecker). Communism was viewed as a huge security risk, and with

Cultural Diversity In College
It s important for students to have a cultural diversity in a college because it helps them to keep an
open mind and learn about the different cultures around them instead of being kept in a bubble of
isolation. Also, it connects people that comes from different backgrounds which can help them
grow their minds when it comes to learning about a tradition that comes from someone else s culture
. This can be able to open up new opportunities such as careers either within their area or overseas.
Another thing is that it helps the students become self aware with decisions the students might
make based on a certain problem that the students might face in their life. Culture diversity not only
helps you to become more open minded, but to also connect with the world. Without having an
open mindthe students will just have a narrow view of the world since they re not expanding their
views from outside of it except from what they are given to see. We think it s important to show that
great higher educationcan be there for all people (Watanabe 1). Also it help the students to promote
creative thinking, when it comes to problems one might go through they would have many options
with the decisions they are deciding about instead just staying inside the box. The students has the
opportunity to go and find the solution through a different way. This explains how in a college with
a cultural diversity can affect the student s education, but in a good way that can be spread around

This thesis is devoted to an investigation of the use of electroencephalographic (EEG) signals for
biometric person recognition. The traditional ways of access control include using token based
identification systems, such as a driver s license or passport, and knowledge based identification
systems, such as a password or personal identification number [1]. Biometric person recognition,
however, relies on human physiological and/or behavioural characteristics for establishing identity.
A range of such distinctive, measurable characteristics can be used have been successfully used to
recognize individuals. Biometric modalities/identifiers are considered to be unique to individuals:
they may be more reliable in verifying identity than token and knowledge based methods [1].
One limitation of the specially designed database is the number of subjects included for data
capture using the low cost sensor system. The self collected database contains 27 subjects with
recordings from multiple sessions made on different days, which may still not be large enough to
justify the statistical significance of the obtained results. Furthermore, due to the quality of the data
from the low cost sensor, it can be predicted that with the number of subjects further increasing, the
recognition performance of the EEG biometric system tends to reduce.
Electroencephalography (EEG) is a recording of the electrical activities of the brain along the scalp,
which is generally considered

Spring Choral Concert Choir
Spring Choral Concert One the afternoon of Sunday, 03 May, 2015, I was watched a performance
of the North Dakota State University Spring Choral Concert Festival Concert Hall at North Dakota
State University. The NDSU Concert Choir has a distinguished tradition of performing eminent
choral literature at the highest level of artistry. When I was went to the concert, I sat in the middle of
the concert hall so I had a good view of the performers and hear the musicclearly. So I had very
wonderful night and a good memory for music valuable. The last choir concert, here at NDSU.
The LAST concert made me sad, but I really enjoyed the moments. Cantemus is a terrific and
wonderful women s choir! When attending the Spring Choral Concert, it s important to have the
right mindset before it begins. I was ready to appreciate the NDSU Concert Choir, I searched some
information from the website and watched some videos. A choir is a musical ensemble of singers.

Ants With Your Order Today
Ants with Your Order Today, Sir? The majority of people in this country would dream of
working in an ice cream shop and sweeping rainbow sprinkles off the floor everyday; I had
accomplished this aspiration. I found my way into the ice cream business as a lowly sophomore
and stayed there until I was a senior, three seasons. By ice cream standards, this means I am an
experienced veteran and can make a perfect soft serve swirl with my eyes closed. This particular
ice cream shop was filled with only girl employees and was mainly a high school position; you
may be thinking my boss is a pedophile, but he s not. As a senior, one has to show others that she
is maturing and put on a leadershiprole to convince onlookers that she is almost at a functioning
adult level. I had always loved my job, but this past summer I stepped in the leadership role in a
way that I never had before; I had to confront my boss with a serious problem. Before I jump to
far ahead, it is important to note that I was quickly becoming a head girl within the
establishment. Many older girls were leaving, and younger girls were filling the gaps. I became
accustomed to orienting new employees that my boss didn t have time for. It was a new challenge
for me and demanded all my patience, which happens to be one of my faults. The accumulation of
duties were moments of obligation in themselves, yet I consider the climax of these moments to
have taken place in early August of 2015. During a lull in afternoon

Christianity And Its Relationship With Political Authority
Christianity and its relationship with political authority has changed over the course of the period
we have studied this semester. There has been a lot of back and forth about the main religion in the
countries we have studied, and predominantly in Rome. The main religion of a country is traced
back to the religion of the political authority. Citizens looked up to their rulers, therefore convert to
the religion of the authority. Initially, Romans viewed Christianityas a new sect of Judaism. Roman
rulers did not like the religion of Christianity. By the end of the first century, the political authority
viewed the religion as a dangerous superstition that was a threat to their civic order. Romans didn t

Constantius reign and the Council of Nicea helped Rome in gaining more Christians since they
were under the rule of a Christian ruler. This did not last long as a Pagan ruler followed. In 361,
emperor Julian came into power and restored Paganism in the Roman Empire. Julian felt the need
to restore Paganism. His goal was to rid Christians from the highest orders of government. He did
not want any Christian judges so that no Christian laws would be passed. Julian targeted the
wealthy Christians as he was not as concerned with the common people. He believed that if he
could get Christians out of political power, people would convert back to Paganism. This time in
history brought Pagan conversions and Pagan members of political authority. After Julian was
killed in battle in 363, his successor came into power to restore Christianity. He passed laws that
made worshipping Pagan gods punishable by death. Christianity went from the minority religion to
the majority religion in fifty years due to converts in favor of the religion of their political leaders.
Christian law remained unchanged until 382 because Rome was in a crisis. This was extremely
influential in gaining Christian converts.
Christianity lost popularity for a little while after the fall of Rome. The Fall of Rome brought
many crises to the empire and people were looking for a scapegoat. Pagans blamed Christians for
the fall. Since Christianity had become so

Olaudah Equiano Influence
Luck. If anyone had luck, it was Olaudah Equiano. Olaudah lived through slavery, shipwrecks,
and still wound up being a free educated author. He wrote a book that was the first of its kind and
affected many people in many ways. He used his life and mishaps to influence and help people.
There are many things to know about Olaudah: early life, travel, and the making of his legacy.
Olaudah was born in West Africa, in 1745, in the village of the Igbo tribe, where his father was the
chief. Recent scholars think that he might of been born in the New World instead of Africa
(Foner, page 130 ). When he was 11 he was kidnapped by slave traders along with some of his
family. At that point, he was forced into the Atlantic Slave Tradeand was considered a slave. He
was then sent to Barbados. Still traveling in the slave trade system, he went to Virginia (the
English colony where most of the tobacco was grown). From Virginia, Olaudah was sold to a
British sea captain. The British sea captain changed his name from Olaudah Equiano, to Gustavus
Vassa (one of the many names people gave him in his life). While Gustavus was with the sea
captain, he was enrolled in an English school where he learned how to read and write, which he
used greatly later on is his life. Also, with the sea captain, he started to travel the world.
Olaudah traveled numerous places many of which was with with the British sea captain. According

Discrimination In Military
Alex,
Being a United States Army wife, I can validate the regulatory methods in which the Army enforces
to ensure fair and equitable treatment for all service members. As a government agency, compliance
is heavily monitored and resources are readily available for those who encounter discrimination.
Gender, especially of women, is one of the most common forms of discrimination when determining
promotional rank, participating in combat missions, and employment opportunities with salaries
comparable to men (Rogers, 1990). The Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment
Rights Act (USERRA) is designed to assist those who serve in the military, an opportunity to
reintegrate back into civilian work and remain attached to the workforce (Karin, 2016). This law
also provides protection from discrimination due to serving the military, and dismissing service
members without a justifiable cause within a predetermined period of time, in which is typically
180 days (Karin, 2016). Returning to civility in itself can be traumatic for service members, and
adding the barrier of discrimination causes even more harm. There are also laws that allow
preference to veterans for admission to college and employment opportunities, to assist with the
transition. These laws are an effort to ensure that veterans do not encounter discrimination when
returning to civility. Also, due to limitations on utilizing education benefits within a specified
timeframe, veterans risk losing benefits earned while sacrificing their lives for our country.

century has been a period of consequence a time set apart. Tonight, with a thankful heart, I have

Five days from now, the world will witness the vitality of American democracy. In a tradition
dating back to our founding, the presidency will pass to a successor chosen by you, the American

Every morning, I received a briefing on the threats to our nation. I vowed to do everything in my
power to keep us safe.
Over the past seven years, a new Department of Homeland Security has been created. The military,
the intelligence community, and the FBI have been transformed. Our nation is equipped with new
tools to monitor the terrorists movements, freeze their finances, and break up their plots. And with
strong allies at our side, we have taken the fight to the terrorists and those who support them.
Afghanistan has gone from a nation where the Taliban harbored al Qaeda and stoned women in
the streets to a young democracy that is fighting terror and encouraging girls to go to school. Iraq
has gone from a brutal dictatorship and a sworn enemy of America to an Arab democracy at the
heart of the Middle East and a friend of the United States.
There is legitimate debate about many of these decisions. But there can be little debate about the
results. America has gone more than seven years without another terrorist attack on our soil. This is
a tribute to those who toil night and day to keep us safe law enforcement officers, intelligence
analysts, homeland security and diplomatic personnel, and the men and women of the United States
Armed Forces.
Our nation is blessed to have citizens who volunteer to defend us in this time of danger. I have
cherished meeting these selfless patriots and their families. And America owes you a debt of
gratitude. And to all our men and

(Fernandez 2).What is NAFTA and what mess it is creating? Basically, a trade agreement
between the USA, Mexico and Canada formed by Bill Clinton, and it has let many Americans
without jobs because most of them have gone to Mexico. That is the main reason Donald J.
Trump hates this agreement and how it has destroyed the United States economy to bits and
pieces. Additionally, what makes Trump fierce is that China has been stealing American trade
secrets for many years. He clearly stated, If China does not stop its illegal activities, including its
theft of American trade secrets, I will use every lawful presidential power to remedy trade
disputes, including the application of tariffs consistent with Section 201 and 301 of the Trade
Act of 1974 and Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962 (Fernandez 3). Clearly, this
shows that Trump is serious about his job and doesn t care if he is dealing with China. China has

Pro Social Behavior And Social Behaviour
Pro social behaviour can be defined as any behaviour which has the immediate goal of helping or
benefiting others (Smith Mackie, 2007). Two neuropeptides which have been closely connected to
pro social behaviour are oxytocin and vasopressin. Recent evidence has shown that these
neuropeptides play an important role in mediating the regulation of social cognition and behaviours
such as pair bonding, attachment and anxiety (Bartels Zeki, 2004; Nagasawa, Okabe, Mogi,
Kikusui, 2012) Through the use of neuroimaging and other non invasive techniques, such research
can offer insight into the understanding of the mechanisms by which oxytocin and vasopressin

This type of parenting stimulates the child s oxytocin system and causes them to seek more contact
with their parents (Nagasawa, Okabe, Mogi Kikusui, 2012). These findings suggest that there is a
positive oxytocin feedback loop between the child and their key attachment figures, which is
necessary for facilitating a successful attachment. For example Fieldman et al (2012) found that
parents reporting more parental care in childhood have higher plasma oxytocin and provide more
touch to their infants.
Stimulation or blocking of the oxytocin receptors causes individual differences in parental
behaviour. In research conducted by Donaldson Young (2008) the infusion of oxytocin was found
to stimulate maternal behaviour in virgin rats that would ordinarily ignore or attack their pups. On
the other hand, oxytocin receptor antagonists are known to reduce maternal behaviours. From the
above analysis it is evident that oxytocin is the glue for parental bonding and can be seen to have a
positive genetic impact on parenting and future attachments.
Despite this, Mascaro, Hackett and Rilling (2013) note an alternative strategy for parental
caregiving. In their study, it was found that higher testosterone levels and larger testes volume
were correlated with a lack of paternal caregiving. When viewing images of their own child, it was
shown that activation in a brain area associated with reward and motivation did predict paternal
caregiving (Mascaro,

Diabetes is a systemic disease caused by a decrease in the secretion of insulin or reduced
sensitivity or responsiveness to insulin by target tissue. (Beale, et al., 2011) The incidence of
diabetes is growing rapidly in the United States and worldwide. An estimated 347 million people
around the world are afflicted with diabetes. (Whalen, et al., 2012) According to World Health
Organization (WHO), Diabetes prevalence among adults over 18 years of age has risen from
4.7% in 1980 to 8.5% in 2014. It is the major cause of blindness, kidney failure, heart attack, stroke
and limbic amputation. World Health Organization (WHO) projects that diabetes will be the 7th
leading cause of death in 2030. It is a complex and costly disease that can affect nearly every organ
in the body and result in devastating consequences. The leading cause of non traumatic lower
extremity amputations, renal failure, and blindness in working age adults, diabetes is also a major
cause of premature mortality, stroke, cardiovascular disease, peripheral vascular disease, congenital
malformations, perinatal mortality, and disability. (Cefalu, 2000) Insulintherapy and oral
hypoglycemic agents have demonstrated improvement in glycaemic control. However, Insulin
therapy has some disadvantages such as ineffectiveness following oral administration, short shelf

Essay on Matthew s Christology
Matthew s Christology
Matthew s Christology is one that emphasises to a Jewish audience the Jewishness of Jesus. It will
be the purpose of this paper to argue that the raison d etre of Matthew s Christology is to portray
Jesus as entirely compatible if not with the Judaism of his day then with ancient Judaic tradition,
namely the Old Testament. Whilst there are numerous titles given to Jesus that are exclusive
/predominant within the Matthean account, such as that of Son of God, it is the writer s assertion
that these merely complement Matthew s central theses; this being the portrayal of Jesus as

3:17; Isaiah 42:1). Consequently, we see in Matthew s depiction of Jesus a fundamental tenet of
Israel s theological history personified.
Jesus is, as the Messianic Servant, shown to be the fulfilment of further Isaianic prophecy, that of
the suffering Servant. Throughout Matthew s gospel there are six direct allusions to Isaiah 53
indicating a definite link and identification by Matthew with this Israelite and Messianic hope.
Further, Farmer suggests that direct allusions notwithstanding in 20:20 28 and especially 26:26 30
Isaiah 53 s redemptive hope is supposed to be fulfilled through Jesus description of the outcome of
his crucifixion.
Isaianic prophecy aside it is also clear that Matthew above the other three evangelists presents
Jesus as the fulfilment of the law, a new Moses. The structure of the book into five sections is
intended to help the Jewish readers identify Jesus as an antecedent of Moses. Jesus is according
to some scholars a type of Moses bringing about a new exodus and a new Israel. More explicitly
however, Matthew portrays Jesus as the only man to have fulfilled the law in its entirety as well
as the messianic fulfilment of Old Testament prophecy through the many formula quotations (3:15;
5:17 48;12:17 21; 13:35; 21:5, 16, 42; 22:44; 23:39; 26:31; 27:9, 35, 46).

The Film M By Fritz Lang
We Are the Criminal
There are instances in life in which we must accept things that are beyond our control and
understanding. In the film M by Fritz Lang we are thrust into a situation of that exact caliber.
The story tells of a man named Hans Beckert, who appears to be an average man by day. We first
meet the character as a shadow and all that we hear is a whistle as he approaches a child which
was left alone. Once the news is out about the missing child the town erupts in chaos, everybody
seems to have their own theory about who this criminal is. Even the gangsters of the city have to

The interesting thing in this film is that it doesn t seem to bother the other citizens that these
gangsters are out doing whatever they please. The number of different crimes committed in the
manhunt was much larger than Mr. Beckert had committed himself. They first forced themselves
into the premise of the storage facility Mr. Beckert was hiding in. They then beat and bound the
guards and destroyed a huge amount of property in the process.
Foucault gives a fairly good explanation stating that these terrible crimes are crimes against nature
(pg. 5). These crimes are so heinous that something within ourselves knows that the crime is wrong.
These crimes carry with them an aura of disgust, instead of a feeling of sorrow. He goes on to say
that the individual in whom insanity and criminality met in such a way as to cause specialists to
raise the question of their relationship, was not the man of the little everyday disorder, the pale
silhouette moving about on the edges of law and morality, but rather the great monster (pg. 5).
What he means by this is that the criminals he describes as dangerous individuals are not the same
as the everyday criminals, these are somehow much worse.
There are certain characteristics that Foucault attributes to his idea of the dangerous individual. He
starts by stating Garofalo s principal in which he

industry could face competition and difficulty in hiring staff.
An airline in Singapore will not just face competition for staff from other airlines operating in
Singapore but also from other airlines around the world. This is due to the emerging trend of the
willingness of the current workforce to work and live overseas. This could be attributed to the
prospect of learning a different culture and the ability to gain experience in a different country.
With the fierce competition from the numerous airlines and the fact that Singapore is a small

Leaving the yellow shaded Spirit plane, I had finally arrived at Florida. When exiting the

Ergotism, The Causes Of The Salem Witch Trials
The Salem Witch Trials were a series of hearings and prosecutions of men and women accused of
witchcraft in Massachusetts starting in the winter of 1691 1692. The last of the trials were held
in January of 1693. Several hundreds of men and women were accused and by the end of 1692, 19
men and women had been put to death for their actions as if the devil were in Salem. Ergotismwas
the cause of the Salem Witch Trials. Ergot, which grows on the rye crop, when eaten the fungus can
cause symptoms that the early colonists considered to be witchcraft. Symptoms of ergotism were
compared to those of lysergic acid diethylamide(LSD) and were found very similar to the symptoms
of hysteria. The climate that the rye grows in either promotes or demotes the growth of the fungus.
Ergot infects plants when they are young and causes cells to divide and enlarge, which creates large
brown sclerotia. Sclerotia are hard resting structures that allow the fungus to survive in the harshest
conditions (Volk). Ergotism is a condition that starts to exist because of ergotamines, which are
substances that are produced due to a fungal infection of grains. Ergotamines cause symptoms that
include hallucinations, gastrointestinal discomfort, a burning sensation in limbs and extremities,
and dry gangrene, which is the falling away of dead or dying body tissue due to lack of blood

Even though he testified innocent. On October 29, 1992, he was sentenced to death. Thirteen
years later, on February 17, 2004 Willingham was executed by lethal injection. Months after he
was executed there was an investigation questioning his trial. The evidence they had was not valid
and he was found innocence. So, why did they execute him? They had no real evidence that he
started the fire. There is nothing they can do now because they already killed him... Show more

In the eighth amendment, it says Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed,
nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted. This amendment is saying that the government should
not impose harsh or unusual punishments to the defendant. Yet, we are killing the criminals in the
worsts ways. Yes, they obviously should have to pay for the crime they did but they should not
have to die. They should just be put in prison for life without parole or any release. So why is the
death penalty not considered a cruel and unusual punishment? Most people say do the crime pay
the time . But does that really relate in this situation? Yes, most of the crimes committed by people
on death row are extremely terrible and horrific but does that mean they should have to die for it.
Why do the judges and the jury get to decide who lives and who dies from capital punishment.
About half of our nation would agree that they should be punished for it but does killing them
really punish them. For all we know it could just relive them of having to spend their lifetime in
jail. Instead they get to take the easy way out and die and not have to serve time for their crime.
The other half, believe that we should keep the death penalty and in some ways it makes sense.
They want to keep the death penalty to keep revenge for the person they lost and healing for the
families of those murdered. They also want to see the person who committed the crime have to pay
for what they did. But they can pay for their crime in other ways then the death

Bilbo s Journey In The Fellowship Of The Rings
The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien is a book about many things. Mostly it s an
adventure of a lifetime for a young hobbit named Frodo. In The Fellowship of the Ring there are
two hobbits named Bilbo, and Frodo Baggins. Bilbo is Frodo s uncle who went on an incredible
adventure and obtained a ring from a hobbit named Gollum. That ring once belonged to Sauron, the
dark lord of Mordor. Without knowing that fact, Bilbo had kept the ring for years. Eventually his
dear friend Gandalf the Grey had suspicions of the rings, and had Bilbo give it to his heir Frodo
before he left for Rivendell. Frodo received a mission from Gandalf to get rid of the ring in
Rivendell, the home of the elves. To accompany Frodo on his journey, three other young hobbits
went along. Those hobbits were Sam, Pippin, and Merry. Along their journey to Rivendell they
came across many obstacles, but they finally made it. When they arrived they had met Bilbo there.

Gandalf had his suspicions about the ring, and when he confirmed his suspicions he needed to

Frodo take the ring to Rivendell to learn more about the ring. When he arrived to Rivendell he

MINI CASE 2: Will the United Kingdom Join the Euro Club?
When the euro was introduced in January 1999, the United Kingdom was conspicuously absent
from the list of European countries adopting the common currency. Although the previous Labor
government led by Prime Minister Tony Blair appeared to be receptive to the idea joining the euro
club, the current Tory government is clearly not in favor of adopting the euro and thus giving up
monetary sovereignty of the country. The public opinion is also divided on the issue.
Whether the United Kingdom will eventually join the euro club is a matter of considerable
importance for the future of European Union as well as that of the United Kingdom. The joining of

as abundant productive workforce, independence of the monetary and flexibility in labor

between local firms about their price of goods. And it s absolutely a positive advantage for
costumers in choosing goods with a reasonable price. Some companies can minimize their
production costs with a cheaper price of their materials. Furthermore, UK can improve the
inflation performance. In UK, CPI is allowed to increase up to 3% but in Euro, its targeted
inflation is close, but not more than 2%. The last but not least, it is rising importance of Euro.
Nowadays, Euro currency plays an important role in international trade. And it can be able to
replace dollar one day in period of globalization. Because there are more and more other potential

US one. The instability of dollar and rising national debt in US also affect to dollar currency.

The Effects Of Deep Sea Mining On Earth
David Richardson said Gold and silver like other commodities have an intrinsic value which is not
arbitrary, but is dependent on their scarcity, the quantity of exertion bestowed in procuring them,
and the value of the capital employed in the mines which produce them.
Deep sea mining is a process to retrieve minerals from the ocean floor at a thousand or more of the
surface. Deep sea mining is constituted the largest and least understood biological habitat on Earth
and has become an environmental risk with the impacts of deep sea mining have been enormous
and unavoidable because of the seabed habitat degradation around vast ocean areas, species
extinctions, condensed habitat complexity have become slow and with the insertion of recovery,
suspended sediment plume and toxic plume from the surface of ore dewatering, pelagic ecosystem
impacts, undersea noise, and ore and oil spill in transport. When deep sea mining the primary
problem is when the biological habitats on the Earth with extraordinary adaptions and bizarre
organisms is a beauty and mystery in the world. When the regions are characterized with darkness
that is infused with bioluminescence, with extreme pressure, cold temperatures, high biodiversity
with over a million species and not even half of the million have not been identified, with slow
growth and reproductive rates and with a high sensitivity to the disturbance. By understanding the

Should Humans Consume Insects as an Alternate Source of Food? Intro Cultivating animals and
crops takes countless amount of hours and use an abundance of resources; furthermore, it
produces waste that can be harmful to the environment. The human population is increasing at
an ever increasing rate and scientists all over the world are trying to solve a global issue. It is
estimated by the UN that the population will hit 9.7 billion by 2050; undoubtedly, these
inefficient and wasteful processes will not suffice. What about insects, there are plentiful in
supply and are packed with proteins and other nutrients that the body needs; furthermore, using
insects in our main diets will decrease the need for domesticated animals which causes creates
problems for everyone; in contrast to insects, which have versatile ways for people to choose
from, use less resources, and produce less waste. Lastly, if we decrease the population of insects it
will actually benefit society by limiting the amount of infestation and their effects on crops, trees,
etc. (DeFoliart, 1992) (Premalatha, 2011) (Verkerka, Trampera, Trijpb, Martensa, 2007). This
proposal will examine the nutrients, environmental impacts, ethics, and effectiveness of an insect
diet and will then be presented through a tri fold board with clear pictures, statistics and
information about this topic. The Problem and How People Are Using Similar Processes to Solve

Doug Sulliman Research Paper
During the summer of 1979, Doug Sulliman was part of a bumper crop of future NHLers
chosen in the opening round of the league s annual entry draft. Included were the likes of Mike
Gartner, Rick Vaive, Ray Bourque, Paul Reinhart and Michel Goulet. Taken 13th overall by the
New York Rangers, Sulliman played 11 NHL seasons with the Rangers, Hartford, New Jersey
and Philadelphia. He then worked as an assistant coach for three seasons in New Jersey and also
three with Phoenix. That works out to an impressive 17 years in the show. Sulliman s story
begins in the former coal mining town of Glace Bay. Born in 1959, his generation was perhaps
one of the last in these parts that played hockey on backyard rinks and frozen ponds practically all
winter long. Yeah, the ponds were frozen and the reservoir was frozen in Glace Bay, he

who had a reputation, said Sulliman. I used to watch him play when I was a kid and I thought
games only lasted one period because he d always have his gear over his shoulder because he
got thrown out for fighting or something. He once told me, If you get into a fight on the ice, let
the other guy know he was in one. That bit of advice lasted throughout my entire career. Of
course, minor hockey played an enormous role in Sulliman s upbringing. The venue for his games
and practice sessions was the once historic Glace Bay Miners Forum, which has since been

Hero Myth Film Analysis
Nathan Graham English W131 9/22/09 Project 1 Linda Seger s 10 Point A Hero Myth Analysis
The idea of heroismhas been traced back to centuries of years throughout history. Greek
Mythology is the father of this concept of heroism and this concept has continued to grow and
develop through stories, writings, and films over the years. Humans have always been intrigued
with the idea of heroism which is why many movies, books, and stories are written after this very
idea. In Linda Seger s Creating the Myth , she argues there are 10 points into creating every hero
myth , using Luke Skywalker in Star Wars as her hero myth example; in the film Harry Potterand
the Sorcerer s Stone, Harry follows Seger s 10 point system of creating a... Show more content on

Harry has the combination of him speaking to the snake, making the glass disappear, as well as the
telegram from Hogwarts as his new turn of events in his life. Although Harry Potter directly
connects to Seger s 10 point analysis of creating a hero s myth, there are some differences as
well. One of which is in Seger s third point that says the Hero is reluctant to leave their old
boring life for the new adventurous life. In Star Wars Luke Skywalker is called to leave his old
life twice but is not necessarily ready to go until he returns home and finds his aunt and uncle
dead. At this time he almost has no other option but to accept the call to his new exiting but
unknown future. This is not the case for Harry. As soon as Harry receives his telegram that
states he is accepted into Hogwarts, he is immediately ready to leave the muggle life with the
Durselysand take on his new life of magic. There was no reluctant behavior from Harry, quite the
contrary, Harry is full of big smiles and curiosity for what is to come. In all Hero myths, Seger
argues that the hero always receives some kind of help from a person in the myth that guides
and steers the hero in the right direction. In Star Wars, Luke has the help of Obi Wan Kenobi in
order to teach him the way of the force. Similarly, in Harry Potter, Harry gets the help from Hagrid
who is one of the teachers at Hogwarts. Hagrid helps show Harry where to go in order to get his

Poetry Analysis Of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Poetry Analysis of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow produced many works of poetry in his lifetime, many which
dealt with American folklore and colonial New England. This is how Longfellow s extended
knowledge of the history of his homeland, and his history allows him to write his informative,
and influential poems such as Paul Revere s Ride , which some critics considered very basic in
its wordage and had a loose voice. As a writer for just under half his life, Henry Wadsworth
Longfellow chose to write about American folklore, as well as Native American folklore and
folklore of the countries he travelled to, that was influential to his readers and American citizens
alike. He was born in Portland, Maine on February 27, 1807, the second son of seven siblings,
he was attending school at three with his older brother, and by age six he knew Latin, and could
read, spell, and multiply. He started college at age 14 and graduated at age 19, ranking fourth in
a class of 38 students. Soon after he became a professor at Bowdoin only to leave 8 years later, to
teach at Harvard, which he would leave after 18 years of teaching to write full time. One of the
great pieces that he composed roughly 20 years prior to his death was the collection of stories he
named Tales of a Wayside Inn, which contained a poem called Paul Revere s Ride , which was
one of the first tales of Paul Revere s ride. Logically, it can be inferred with the information
previously stated that Longfellow was a large influence in ideas of American Folklore and as a
teacher of unknown American history through his works. This means that through his simplistic
and accurate poems he added, changed, and/or influenced the views of American history of those
who read his poem, in his time and the present. His influence on the American people s view of
historical events, and his teachings of said American history can be seen in many of his works
such as Paul Revere s Ride. It is in this poem, though that Longfellow s view on historical teachings
through the use of poetry which also influenced American ideas on specific topics such as the start
of the American Revolution. The battle of Lexington and Concord, otherwise known as the shots

Essay On Gender Inequality In The Caribbean
Critical Reading and Writing in Social Sciences: FOUN1013
Documented Essay
Worldwide, women are achieving higher representation and success. At the post secondary level
women are earning most of the degrees awarded. Where did our males disappear to? Gender
inequality is an extensive, complex and often vague concept. Simply it is defined as the ranking of
a particular gender, whether male or female, over the other and how they are treated based on their
gender. Gender inequality and the result of male underperformance in schools have become major
issues in the Caribbean, and affect the individuals involved and the society on a whole. Boys
underachievement therefore should not be ignored and an analysis of ... Show more content on

Delinquent behaviours may also develop, such as crime when males find other ways of
surviving in providing for themselves and their families. Society, on the other hand, is
economically affected by the reduction in the workforce. Less people working in an economy,
results in a decline in levels of production. Unemployed persons may also put a strain on the
countries resources. This is the current state of Jamaica s economy. As society progresses and
changes, the roles of males and females continue to change. Historically, Caribbean men were
known to take part in manual work or attend schools, as academic excellence was seen as a male
domain, while females did domestic work. Men were also given better paying jobs, while females
had to work twice as hard to be qualified for those same jobs. In contemporary Caribbean society,
the roles have interchanged and it appears that men are lagging in education as well as in job
placements. Due to the history of the socialisation of males, it is evident in today s society that
they are more likely to survive after not attending school than females, whose only other option is
domestic labour. This is so because males are hardened to find other ways of making a living.
(Chevannes, 1999) Figueroa (2004) identifies other minor factors which influence male
underperformance such as: the absence of motivational factors, a

Amaranth Advisors: Burning Six Billion In Thirty Days Introduction: In September, 2006, a large
sized hedge fund named Amaranth Advisors LLC lost $4.942 billion in natural gas futures trading
and was forced to close their hedge fund. Although Amaranth Advisors was not exclusively an
energy trading fund, the energy portion of their portfolio had slowly grown to represent 80% of the
performance attribution of the fund. Their collapse was not entirely unforeseeable or unavoidable.

Amaranth s success in 2005 and early 2006: It was due to its energy (primarily natural gas)
trades. Amaranth s main energy trader was Brian Hunter, a 32 year old Canadian and the former
head of Deutsche Bank s natural gas trading desk. In September 2005, Amaranth made more than
$1 billion when Hurricanes Katrina and Rita hit the U.S Gulf Coast. These Hurricanes disrupted
the supply of natural gas, and gas prices soared to record highs, just as Hunter had predicted. The
rise in natural gas prices drove Amaranth s 15% return for 2005, as the rest of the portfolio
performed poorly. Why Natural Gas market was unique relative to other commodities: It is
because of gaseous form of natural gas made transportation difficult. Although natural gas could
be liquefied and exported overseas, this process was both expensive and potentially hazardous.
Strategy used by the natural gas traders: One common strategy is to bet on the price of futures for
the winter contract months. Many factors can influence the price of winter contracts, for e.g., a
strong hurricane season that disrupts supplies just before winter. Traders who believe either a cold
winter or a strong hurricane season will occur will take a long position in winter future contracts.
The Collapse: In September 2006, things took a turn for the worse for Amaranth. Hunter s natural
gas bets began to backfire, and the fund quickly started to lose money. By September 20,it was

  • 2. The Effects Of Rape Culture And The Psychological Post... When discussing genocide, it is simpler to discuss the overall impact of the collective to create an elaborate visualization of the horrific events incurred by genocide, than to focus on the impact of a single genocidaire. The victims of genocidal violence are given a respectable amount of attention, because they are the victims of atrocities and they deserve justice and recognition for their sufferings. Due to the recent influx on research into the sociological effects of rapeculture and the psychological post traumatic effects of rape, research on the utilization of rape in genocidehas become increasingly popular among academics of all disciplines. Unfortunately, little research has been done on how genocidaires, who were once regular civilians of a state, electively join in the execution of mass violence through committing rape and murder. Modern sociologists and psychologists have yet to define a collection of definitive characteristics of the genocide rapist, as the majority of research is done on individual perpetrators have had contact with the criminal justice system and are likely incarcerated. While extensive research has been done on the characteristics of living victims, the genocidaire rapist, however, is unlikely to be individually targeted and charged with sexual assault, let alone be analyzed by behavioral scientists for diagnostic research. Assuming that not all people are inherently born with the will to kill and commit sexual violence, it s important to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. U.s. Taxpayers Paid $ 256 Billion For Healthcare In 1980, U.S. taxpayers paid $256 billion for healthcare services. In 2012, they paid nearly $2.8 trillion for healthcare services (Centers for Medicare Medicaid Services. 2012). This represents a tenfold increase in a single generation. Although some of the most expensive medical conditions to treat may not be preventable, there are a myriad of preventable diseases that add to the economic burden that Americans carry each year. When one also considers the rise in childhood obesity rates and other related and non related chronic illnesses, the role of nurses as educators in our schools and communities has become critical to the continued success of our nation. In 2009, data were collected by the National Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) that clearly demonstrated the relationship between health risk behaviors and academic achievement in high school students. Students with higher grades were less likely to engage in health risk behaviors such as cigarette smoking, alcohol use, unhealthy diets, and increased sexual activity. Unfortunately, the statistics reported by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for health risk behaviors in American adults were grim. In 2012, 42 million adults reported that they smoked cigarettes and nearly 47% of American adults have at least one major risk factor for heart disease or stroke. These included uncontrolled high blood pressure, uncontrolled high levels of LDL cholesterol, lack of aerobic exercise, and poor nutrition. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Summary Of Jackie Robinson A Letter To Dwight Eisenhower On May 13, 1958, Jackie Robinson wrote a letter to Former President Dwight Eisenhower. The letter contained Robinson s opinion regarding a recent meeting, the Summit Meeting of Negro Leaders, which he had just attended. Robinson was discontent with what he heard at the meeting and wrote the letter to convince Eisenhower that patience was not the solution to racial discriminationin America. In the short letter, Robinson begins by showing his disagreement to Eisenhower s statement saying America should have patience in order to end discrimination. The president shocked him by suggesting 17 million African Americans wait for the rights he knew they already should ve obtained. Believing that once again another president was going to ignore their existence, he thought African Americans would lose their spirit of freedom. This is the reason he uses to justify why African Americans are aggressively pursuing their goals. Near the end of the letter, Robinson begins to talk about General Faubus as the adversary to Eisenhower. Unlike Robinson, Faubus was trying to delay anti segregation laws and from Robinson s perspective, he was trying to return African Americans to slavery. The letter concludes with Robinson suggesting Eisenhower make a strong statement supporting civil rights so the country would know that the government is on the side of justice. To understand the meaning behind Jackie Robinson s statements, information about his life must be known. Robinson is a former Major ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Compare The Baroque Style Of King Louis XIV Of France The Baroque style is very frilly and uses a lot of detail and expensive materials. One way that King Louis XIV of France used the Baroque style to represent himself as an absolute monarch was to to build the palace of Versailles. The palace of Versailles is is a grand palace that was once a small hunting lodge. Louis turned it into a grand palace with vast gardens, and thousands of rooms. Each space emulates the Baroquestyle in its furnishings and ornamental decoration. Nothing on the grounds was left to nature. Each plant was kept neat and immaculate. One way that he showed his power as absolute monarch was his ability to eat tropical fruits in the dead of winter. The palace of Versailleshad green houses that allowed him the privilege to ... • 6. Theory In Nursing Practice Application of Theory The role of theory in clinical nursing practice is to guide assessment, interventions, and evaluation of nursing care. Theory in nursing practice provides a rationale for collecting reliable and valid data about the health status of clients, which are essential for effective decision making and implementation. Nursing theory also serves as a guide assessment, interventions, and evaluation of nursing practice. Theories can address important questions for nursing units. Theories can be grand, middle range and practice. Grand theories provide a complex and broad scope and incorporate numerous ways of viewing concepts in nursing. Middle range nursing theories are narrower in scope and offer an effective bridge between grand nursing theories and nursing practice. The Ida J. Orlando s middle range nursing theory provides a nursing foundation for nursing leaders to utilize both in the management of patient care and leadership. When applying Orlando s theory, nursing leaders can identify perceptions, thoughts and feelings about patients care, then educate nursing staff on meeting the patient s needs. The theory combines competent nursing practice and customer satisfaction. Meeting the patient s needs reduces patient distress levels. Bedside nurses must be diligent and confident of their nursing skills. When provided with great leadership, nurses will feel more confident in their ability to provide quality patient care. Crocodilians consists of large reptiles which includes alligators, crocodiles, gharials, and caimans. Squamates are lizards, snakes, and worm lizards. Amphibians skin is moist and they do not consist of scales. The skin of an amphibian is also permeable. Permeable means that gases can pass through their skin. A reptiles scales provide them with a protective layer of skin that is tough and dry. The scales help to minimize the loss of body moisture, the reptilian scales consists of a protein called keratin. The scale structure of a reptile are not individual like those of a fish, but are a continuous sheet of epidermal tissue. Hard shelled eggs provide a protective environment in which the embryo can develop and enables reptiles to lay their eggs in dry environments. On the other hand, amphibians must lay their eggs in or near water. The reptilian skeleton differs from other vertebrates in many ways. For example, reptiles have many bones in their lower jaw to enable them a greater bite mobility, but mammals only have one bone in their lower jaw called the mandible. Mammals ears consist of three bones(the malleus, incus, and stapes) while reptiles have just one bone(stapes). Reptiles also have only one occipital condyle(a protrusion on the skull that forms a joint that enables movement of the head) mammals on the other hand consist of two occipital condyles (Laura Klappenbach 2014). The focal point of this literature is the influence the Police and Crime Commissioners (PCC) have on police accountability and governance. The managerialism of policing in England and Wales is examined through the introduction of the PCC, and their responsibilities and powers for developing future strategies are assessed. The potential influence of the PCC on the role of the chief constableand their relationship is considered. The government became concerned about how effective police governance strategies were and started a process of consultation of police reform (Home Office, 2003). Following the deliberation under of 1962 Royal Commission on the police, accountability was distributed between the Home Office, local police authority, and chief constable. The 1996 Police Act, Police Reform Act 2002 and the Police and Magistrates Courts Act 1994 imposed the tripartite systems groundwork, however it was not always uncontentious (Mawby and Wright, 2005 pp. 4). Some argue that policing has become over centralised and distorted due to under governance, heavy with bureaucracy which prevents police from policing efficiently. The PCC want to implement greater local discretion and independence from central departments. From the election of the PCCs, more influential powers will radiate from the public, they expect that electoral success will be reflected in the local police activity; resulting in pressure being placed on the police from the PCC to implement the programmes and priorities that brought the PCC to election success (Loveday, 2013 pp. 23). • 9. Leishmaniasis Essay Leishmaniasis The Sting of The Sand Fly By Jared Yeazell Admittedly, since the beginning of time, disease has played a drastic role in the history of society. It has affected economic conditions, wars, and natural disasters. The impact of any disease can be far greater than some far better known catastrophes. In 1918, an epidemic of influenza swept the globe, killing between 20 million and 40 million people. Within a few months, more than 500,000 Americans had died. This is a number far greater than the number of people killed during World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Physicians in the Indian subcontinent would describe it as Kala Azar. More recently, evidence of the cutaneous form of the disease was found in the Ecuador and Peru in the pre Inca potteries depicting king lesions and deformed faces dating back to the first century AD. Additionally, 15th and 16th century texts from the Inca period and from the Spanish colonial mention Valley Sickness, Andean Sickness, or White Leprosy which are likely to be Cutaneous Leishmaniasis. Following this a little further, Leishmaniasis is usually transmitted in many tropical and subtropical countries, and is found in certain parts of about 88 countries. Currently, approximately 350 million people are living in these areas. It affects as many as 12 million people worldwide, with around 2 million new cases each year. Leishmaniasis is also found through much of the Americas from northern Argentina to southern Texas, though not in Uruguay or Chile, and has recently been shown to be spreading to north Texas. During 2004, it is estimated that around 3,400 Colombian troops, operating in the jungles near the south of the country, were infected with Leishmaniasis. Within Afghanistan, Leishmaniasis occurs commonly due to bad sanitations and waste left uncollected in the streets. Additionally, Leishmaniasis has been reported by U.S. troops stationed in Saudi Arabia and Iraq since the Gulf War of 1990. Also, in some areas of southern Europe, Leishmaniasis is becoming an ... • 12. The Importance Of Federalism In The United States Government When the founding fathers came together, they realized that they had important things to discuss. Truthfully because The Articles of Confederation had not been efficient enough for the national government. The Articles of Confederation left the national government without a judiciary and independent executive, leaving Congress with most of the power; but it was largely a creature of the states. This sparked conflicted amongst state which eventually lead to the government s debt. Once The Founding Fathers realized the poor ethics that the Articles of Confederation had, the first topic they felt the need to discuss had been federalism. As read in We the People textbook, federalism means the Constitution s division of governing authority between two levels, nation and states was the result of political bargaining. As I reflect back on previous lessons/discussions, I find it that Federalism is an ideology that s written in the constitution to divide power between federal and state government; even though the term is not bluntly stated. Honorably, the simulation mirrored what took place in 1787, by having four interest groups and Senators from eight delegations representing their states interest. The Senators main objective had been to reform the Proposed Legislation for Federal Anti Smoking Standards bill that could potentially benefit both their locals and local government. For the duration of the simulation, both the interest groups and Senators demonstrated the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Regional Antibiotic Resistance Of Helicobacter Pylori Review Article Regional Antibiotic Resistance of Helicobacter pylori Abstract Antibiotic resistance is the main factor accounting for unsuccessful eradication of Helicobactor pylori (H. pylori). Being knowledgeable of the regional resistance rates of H. pylori isolates can regulate not only the empiric antibiotic therapy but also lead to second line treatment and rescue regiments. At present, the most common treatment is empiric eradication, thus, global regional regiment therapies should be based upon regional in vitro antibiotic resistance rates. This approach is crucial in successfully treating the individual patient. However, in regions where antibiotic susceptibility testing is unavailable, epidemiological data for secondary H. pylori resistance are essential for the rational use of antibiotics following several treatment failures in. Primary H. pylori resistance to clarithromycin is generally less prevalent worldwide than H. pylori resistance to metronidazole. Secondary resistance that develops in vivo in previously susceptible organisms has been documented in cases of therapeutic failures. All antibiotics used to treat H. pylori are also widely employed to treat other bacterial infections, therefore, pretreatment exposure of H. pylori to inadequate levels of these drugs as well as the use of inadequate regional antibiotics, is associated with secondary resistance. Herein, we review regional resistance rates of H. pylori isolates to clarithromycin, metronidazole and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. Immigration Problems Ayush Patel American Lit B Research Paper 27 September , 2017 In 2013, 13 percent of the U.S. population was foreign born. Current projections suggest that by 2065, nearly one in five people in the United States will have been born outside the country (Hing 25).3 Immigration has been an integral part of the United States since its colonial days. Over a million legal and illegal immigrants take up residence in the United States each year. With the country struggling to support the huge intake of new comers, life in America has been suffering tremendously. The excessive stress put upon the welfare system, overuse of the family reunification laws, and the exploitation of employment based immigration are reasons for immigration reform. The American Government is trying to solve the deep rooted problems of immigration including the 1965 law, Chain immigration, and Latino immigration. Some factors from the past are widely responsible for the present immigration problems in the United States. A major cause for all of the problems is the 1965 Immigration and Nationality Act. The 1965 Immigration law prioritized the relatives of U.S. citizens, while others were not able to settle in U.S. (Salam 24).2 The biased national origin quotas of 1920s was replaced by the 1965 law, which focused on family unification ( Hing 25).4 This Act has kept some restrictions for the immigration from Europe and Asia. At first, almost all of the unions of dockworkers and seamen joined in this program, because they were all anticommunist. After some time, the Coast Guard became involved in the program. The Coast Guard took over many functions that the unions had been handling by themselves when it came to this project, and this was met by growing hostility from the unions as well as the individual employers. After the involvement of the Coast Guard, many unions became angry and hostile toward the Coast Guard: There was considerable opposition on the part of the maritime unions to the original transfer of these functions to the Coast Guard and this antagonism toward the Coast Guard has not altogether abated. Cultural Diversity In College It s important for students to have a cultural diversity in a college because it helps them to keep an open mind and learn about the different cultures around them instead of being kept in a bubble of isolation. Also, it connects people that comes from different backgrounds which can help them grow their minds when it comes to learning about a tradition that comes from someone else s culture . This can be able to open up new opportunities such as careers either within their area or overseas. Another thing is that it helps the students become self aware with decisions the students might make based on a certain problem that the students might face in their life. Culture diversity not only helps you to become more open minded, but to also connect with the world. Without having an open mindthe students will just have a narrow view of the world since they re not expanding their views from outside of it except from what they are given to see. We think it s important to show that great higher educationcan be there for all people (Watanabe 1). Also it help the students to promote creative thinking, when it comes to problems one might go through they would have many options with the decisions they are deciding about instead just staying inside the box. Introduction This thesis is devoted to an investigation of the use of electroencephalographic (EEG) signals for biometric person recognition. The traditional ways of access control include using token based identification systems, such as a driver s license or passport, and knowledge based identification systems, such as a password or personal identification number [1]. Biometric person recognition, however, relies on human physiological and/or behavioural characteristics for establishing identity. A range of such distinctive, measurable characteristics can be used have been successfully used to recognize individuals. Biometric modalities/identifiers are considered to be unique to individuals: they may be more reliable in verifying identity than token and knowledge based methods [1]. One limitation of the specially designed database is the number of subjects included for data capture using the low cost sensor system. The self collected database contains 27 subjects with recordings from multiple sessions made on different days, which may still not be large enough to justify the statistical significance of the obtained results. Furthermore, due to the quality of the data from the low cost sensor, it can be predicted that with the number of subjects further increasing, the recognition performance of the EEG biometric system tends to reduce. Discrimination In Military Alex, Being a United States Army wife, I can validate the regulatory methods in which the Army enforces to ensure fair and equitable treatment for all service members. As a government agency, compliance is heavily monitored and resources are readily available for those who encounter discrimination. Gender, especially of women, is one of the most common forms of discrimination when determining promotional rank, participating in combat missions, and employment opportunities with salaries comparable to men (Rogers, 1990). The Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) is designed to assist those who serve in the military, an opportunity to reintegrate back into civilian work and remain attached to the workforce (Karin, 2016). This law also provides protection from discrimination due to serving the military, and dismissing service members without a justifiable cause within a predetermined period of time, in which is typically 180 days (Karin, 2016). Returning to civility in itself can be traumatic for service members, and adding the barrier of discrimination causes even more harm. There are also laws that allow preference to veterans for admission to college and employment opportunities, to assist with the transition. Basically, a trade agreement between the USA, Mexico and Canada formed by Bill Clinton, and it has let many Americans without jobs because most of them have gone to Mexico. That is the main reason Donald J. Trump hates this agreement and how it has destroyed the United States economy to bits and pieces. Additionally, what makes Trump fierce is that China has been stealing American trade secrets for many years. He clearly stated, If China does not stop its illegal activities, including its theft of American trade secrets, I will use every lawful presidential power to remedy trade disputes, including the application of tariffs consistent with Section 201 and 301 of the Trade Act of 1974 and Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962 (Fernandez 3). Clearly, this shows that Trump is serious about his job and doesn t care if he is dealing with China. China has been stealing all our trade secrets and Barack Obama didn t do anything about it. In brief, this clearly shows that our future President has the characteristics and personality of a true leader that is ready for this great battle. Our economy has gone down hill since Barack Obama stepped into office in the year of 2008. Our newly elected president, Donald J. Trump, has shown through his economic plan that he will bring back jobs and cut taxes drastically for everyone. In all, these major changes towards our economy will make America great ... • 31. Pro Social Behavior And Social Behaviour Pro social behaviour can be defined as any behaviour which has the immediate goal of helping or benefiting others (Smith Mackie, 2007). Two neuropeptides which have been closely connected to pro social behaviour are oxytocin and vasopressin. Recent evidence has shown that these neuropeptides play an important role in mediating the regulation of social cognition and behaviours such as pair bonding, attachment and anxiety (Bartels Zeki, 2004; Nagasawa, Okabe, Mogi, Kikusui, 2012) Through the use of neuroimaging and other non invasive techniques, such research can offer insight into the understanding of the mechanisms by which oxytocin and vasopressin contribute to pro social behaviour and may also help to explain the neural systems of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This type of parenting stimulates the child s oxytocin system and causes them to seek more contact with their parents (Nagasawa, Okabe, Mogi Kikusui, 2012). These findings suggest that there is a positive oxytocin feedback loop between the child and their key attachment figures, which is necessary for facilitating a successful attachment. For example Fieldman et al (2012) found that parents reporting more parental care in childhood have higher plasma oxytocin and provide more touch to their infants. Stimulation or blocking of the oxytocin receptors causes individual differences in parental behaviour. In research conducted by Donaldson Young (2008) the infusion of oxytocin was found to stimulate maternal behaviour in virgin rats that would ordinarily ignore or attack their pups. On the other hand, oxytocin receptor antagonists are known to reduce maternal behaviours. From the above analysis it is evident that oxytocin is the glue for parental bonding and can be seen to have a positive genetic impact on parenting and future attachments. Despite this, Mascaro, Hackett and Rilling (2013) note an alternative strategy for parental caregiving. In their study, it was found that higher testosterone levels and larger testes volume were correlated with a lack of paternal caregiving. When viewing images of their own child, it was shown that activation in a brain area associated with reward and motivation did predict paternal caregiving (Mascaro, ... (Beale, et al., 2011) The incidence of diabetes is growing rapidly in the United States and worldwide. An estimated 347 million people around the world are afflicted with diabetes. It will be the purpose of this paper to argue that the raison d etre of Matthew s Christology is to portray Jesus as entirely compatible if not with the Judaism of his day then with ancient Judaic tradition, namely the Old Testament. Whilst there are numerous titles given to Jesus that are exclusive /predominant within the Matthean account, such as that of Son of God, it is the writer s assertion that these merely complement Matthew s central theses; this being the portrayal of Jesus as Messiah and so, as such, will not be investigated except where they promote this conclusion. Consequently, we see in Matthew s depiction of Jesus a fundamental tenet of Israel s theological history personified. Jesus is, as the Messianic Servant, shown to be the fulfilment of further Isaianic prophecy, that of the suffering Servant. Throughout Matthew s gospel there are six direct allusions to Isaiah 53 indicating a definite link and identification by Matthew with this Israelite and Messianic hope. Further, Farmer suggests that direct allusions notwithstanding in 20:20 28 and especially 26:26 30 Isaiah 53 s redemptive hope is supposed to be fulfilled through Jesus description of the outcome of his crucifixion. Isaianic prophecy aside it is also clear that Matthew above the other three evangelists presents Jesus as the fulfilment of the law, a new Moses. The structure of the book into five sections is intended to help the Jewish readers identify Jesus as an antecedent of Moses. Jesus is according to some scholars a type of Moses bringing about a new exodus and a new Israel. More explicitly however, Matthew portrays Jesus as the only man to have fulfilled the law in its entirety as well as the messianic fulfilment of Old Testament prophecy through the many formula quotations (3:15; 5:17 48;12:17 21; 13:35; 21:5, 16, 42; 22:44; 23:39; 26:31; 27:9, 35, 46). Ergotismwas the cause of the Salem Witch Trials. Ergot, which grows on the rye crop, when eaten the fungus can cause symptoms that the early colonists considered to be witchcraft. Symptoms of ergotism were compared to those of lysergic acid diethylamide(LSD) and were found very similar to the symptoms of hysteria. The climate that the rye grows in either promotes or demotes the growth of the fungus. Ergot infects plants when they are young and causes cells to divide and enlarge, which creates large brown sclerotia. Sclerotia are hard resting structures that allow the fungus to survive in the harshest conditions (Volk). • 48. Poetry Analysis Of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow Poetry Analysis of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow Henry Wadsworth Longfellow produced many works of poetry in his lifetime, many which dealt with American folklore and colonial New England. This is how Longfellow s extended knowledge of the history of his homeland, and his history allows him to write his informative, and influential poems such as Paul Revere s Ride , which some critics considered very basic in its wordage and had a loose voice. As a writer for just under half his life, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow chose to write about American folklore, as well as Native American folklore and folklore of the countries he travelled to, that was influential to his readers and American citizens alike. He was born in Portland, Maine on February 27, 1807, the second son of seven siblings, he was attending school at three with his older brother, and by age six he knew Latin, and could read, spell, and multiply. He started college at age 14 and graduated at age 19, ranking fourth in a class of 38 students. Soon after he became a professor at Bowdoin only to leave 8 years later, to teach at Harvard, which he would leave after 18 years of teaching to write full time. One of the great pieces that he composed roughly 20 years prior to his death was the collection of stories he named Tales of a Wayside Inn, which contained a poem called Paul Revere s Ride , which was one of the first tales of Paul Revere s ride. Logically, it can be inferred with the information previously stated that Longfellow was a large influence in ideas of American Folklore and as a teacher of unknown American history through his works. This means that through his simplistic and accurate poems he added, changed, and/or influenced the views of American history of those who read his poem, in his time and the present. His influence on the American people s view of historical events, and his teachings of said American history can be seen in many of his works such as Paul Revere s Ride. It is in this poem, though that Longfellow s view on historical teachings through the use of poetry which also influenced American ideas on specific topics such as the start of the American Revolution. At the post secondary level women are earning most of the degrees awarded. Where did our males disappear to? Gender inequality is an extensive, complex and often vague concept. Simply it is defined as the ranking of a particular gender, whether male or female, over the other and how they are treated based on their gender. Delinquent behaviours may also develop, such as crime when males find other ways of surviving in providing for themselves and their families. Society, on the other hand, is economically affected by the reduction in the workforce. Less people working in an economy, results in a decline in levels of production. Unemployed persons may also put a strain on the countries resources. This is the current state of Jamaica s economy. As society progresses and changes, the roles of males and females continue to change. Historically, Caribbean men were known to take part in manual work or attend schools, as academic excellence was seen as a male domain, while females did domestic work. Men were also given better paying jobs, while females had to work twice as hard to be qualified for those same jobs. In contemporary Caribbean society, the roles have interchanged and it appears that men are lagging in education as well as in job placements. Due to the history of the socialisation of males, it is evident in today s society that they are more likely to survive after not attending school than females, whose only other option is domestic labour. This is so because males are hardened to find other ways of making a living. (Chevannes, 1999) Figueroa (2004) identifies other minor factors which influence male underperformance such as: the absence of motivational factors, a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Amaranth Case Amaranth Advisors: Burning Six Billion In Thirty Days Introduction: In September, 2006, a large sized hedge fund named Amaranth Advisors LLC lost $4.942 billion in natural gas futures trading and was forced to close their hedge fund. Although Amaranth Advisors was not exclusively an energy trading fund, the energy portion of their portfolio had slowly grown to represent 80% of the performance attribution of the fund. Their collapse was not entirely unforeseeable or unavoidable. Amaranth had amassed very large positions on both the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) and the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) in natural gas futures, swaps, and options. The trades consisted mainly of buying and selling natural gas futures contracts with a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Amaranth s success in 2005 and early 2006: It was due to its energy (primarily natural gas) trades. Amaranth s main energy trader was Brian Hunter, a 32 year old Canadian and the former head of Deutsche Bank s natural gas trading desk. In September 2005, Amaranth made more than $1 billion when Hurricanes Katrina and Rita hit the U.S Gulf Coast. These Hurricanes disrupted the supply of natural gas, and gas prices soared to record highs, just as Hunter had predicted. The rise in natural gas prices drove Amaranth s 15% return for 2005, as the rest of the portfolio performed poorly. Why Natural Gas market was unique relative to other commodities: It is because of gaseous form of natural gas made transportation difficult. Although natural gas could be liquefied and exported overseas, this process was both expensive and potentially hazardous. Strategy used by the natural gas traders: One common strategy is to bet on the price of futures for the winter contract months. Many factors can influence the price of winter contracts, for e.g., a strong hurricane season that disrupts supplies just before winter. Traders who believe either a cold winter or a strong hurricane season will occur will take a long position in winter future contracts. The Collapse: In September 2006, things took a turn for the worse for Amaranth. Hunter s natural gas bets began to backfire, and the fund quickly started to lose money. By September 20,it was ... My parents, who lived in poverty in China, immigrated to the United States hoping for a better life and to pursue the American Dream. They immigrated to the Unites States with no money and no knowledge of the English language. The language barrier alone created a mass obstacle for their early life in America. My dad had once told me that at the age of 13 he was already cooking for his entire familywhile working to provide financial support for his parents and siblings. Despite my parents challenges, they were still able to raise me with love and care and surrounded me in an environment where I... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Such environment that I was raised in, has shaped me to become a disciplined and responsible individual. Having been raised by my parents who are Chinese, I have had the honor of learning several cultural aspects of my heritage and becoming bilingual in mandarin and English. I learned to celebrate Chinese holidays, learned about my unique culture, and even attended Chinese school for a few years. My Chinese heritage will always be part of who I am and has shaped me to be who I am today. Although my life is not like those of a typical teenager s, I am and will be forever grateful for all that my parents had provided me. For providing me with love and care, for raising me to become a disciplined individual, for providing me with the inspiration that I need when I fail at times, and most importantly, for finding the courage to send me off to college even without the full financial ability to.
