Historical Context Analysis
Studying the context in which a text was written provides valuable insight to the outside factors that
may have had an influence on the text and its original meaning. This includes the type of government,
societal norms, and the type of education available. These factors influence the gender norms and their
specific roles in society during that time. The Household Codes were written during in ancient times
under a Greco Roman government. As a result of this type of government, specific laws and standards
were set in place by the government and reinforced by society which had an influence over what
women were able to do. Prominent ways of thought in those societies also had an impact on the New
Testament writings since they influenced the educational ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the historical context is recognized, the text will be interpreted in a way that the author had
intended and not taken out of context. This is essential for modern interpreters of the Bible because the
social location of the individuals in the present society is different from the individuals in antiquity.
When interpreting the Bible, there are multiple methods that can be used and different presuppositions
that the reader can bring to their understanding of the material. According to Hauer and Young, there
are three complementary paths a modern reader can take in serious study of the Bible (Hauer, 1). One
of these paths includes analyzing the historical world of the Bible. The historical world refers to the
events and situations that form contexts for understanding the Bible as it was being written and
interpreted (Hauer, 1). These refer to things such as wars or the type of government that is in control
because that affects the audience of the writing and what issues within the community are being
addressed by the writer. The Bible has a large influence over modern society because it was composed
in, and became part of history (Hauer, 1). With such a long history, the Bible has been established as

Gamma Radiation Research Paper
Radiation is often negatively connotated; however, this impression is inappropriate. Radiation is
extremely beneficial in the standards of medicine and is a very predominant as well as an effective
way of not only creating energy, but testing how old a fossil is or even how a substance will stand to
the test of time. On behalf of the advancements brought to the surface by these developments, the
possibility of genetically altering crops with radiation has become possible. With the advancements
brought to the light in the early twentieth century, gamma radiation began to hold its own. Gamma
radiation is extremely beneficial to society because of its contributions the agrarian culture in the

Atomic gardening, also referred to as gamma gardening, was founded in the 1950s. Gamma gardens
are arranged in a spherical pattern with a removable radiation source in the center. The plants that
were subjected to this would be laid out almost like slices of pie. Starting at the center of this spherical
shape, the plants would radiate outwards from where the radiation source was. This layout was
specifically chosen so that there would be different levels of exposure though out the experiments
varying along the radius of the garden. The plants towards the outer edges would have growth
abnormalities and other defects. In contrast, the plants closest to the center would usually be found
dead by the end of the duration of the experiment. Because the plants towards the outer rim of the
garden survived and feature a wide variety of mutations, they were taking under much interest and
studied. Most gamma gardens were on national laboratories in then the U.S.S.R., Europe and the U.S.
A disease resistant peppermint plant is an example of a crop developed from this scientific
experimenting. In contribution to the discoveries from gamma gardening, pesticides and more
resistance to common plant variables have been discovered and

Health Insurance Failure
In 1915 a failed attempt was made for a national health insurance program. Another attempt was made
in 1935 with a single line authorizing a study of health insurance in the Social Security bill. In 1945,
President Harry Truman endorsed universal health insurance. To be followed by a 1951, plan for Old
Age and Survivors Insurance was introduced. Then in 1965, Medicare was passed under then
President Lyndon Johnson (Oberlander, 2015). The model bill drafted by Progressives in 1915 for
national health insurance, contained limited coverage for the working class and those who made less
than $1200 a year, which included dependents. Included were hospitals, maternity benefits, nurses,
physicians and death benefits for funerals of $50. Employers, ... Show more content on

The line which was removed would have authorized the study of health insurance (Oberlander, 2015)
(Palmer, 1999). President Harry Truman in 1945 supported a national health insurance, in which;
opponents labeled it social medicine in their crusade against Communism. Truman s plan was to be a
single plan which would include all classes of society. It failure was due partially to the stigmatism of
anti communism and as before the special interest groups (Oberlander, 2015)(Palmer, 1999). President
Lyndon Johnson, by restricting eligibility to the elderly, limiting hospital care and connecting it to
Social Security, Medicare became a viable plan. Moving the concentration of the debate to the aged
community a grass roots support of seniors pushed the agenda into the national spotlight. An eldercare
plan was introduced by the AMA of a voluntary insurance was broader benefits. The government
countered expanding it proposal to include physician service, which intern became Medicare and
Medicaid. Political concessions were made with doctors, and hospitals. The Part A comprehensive
health insurance and Part B voluntary physician insurance. President Johnson finally signed it into law
in 1965 as part of the Great Society Legislation (Oberlander, 2015)(Palmer,

Comparative Analysis Of The Attention Getter And The...
Comparative Analysis of The Attention Getter and The Denouement: In the movie The Incredibles, the
director Brad Bird had the beginning of the film start with interviews of the heroes to subvert viewer
expectations and have the audience focus on the people behind the masks. After interview scene, an
action police chase takes place so that the audience would be on the edge of their seats interested to
watch the film. The attention getter draws the audience in as they can easily understand the heroes
personalities before the action takes place. The police chase is fast paced and there are lots of fast
camera movements occurring. As well, in the attention getter Mr. Incredible is trying to multitask and
time is ticking which leaves the audience with curiosity to see what will happen. It s easy to observe
that Mr. Incredible works alone and seems extremely excited to fight crime as every time he gets a
crime in progress notification he looks at his watch and states, I ve got time. And speeds to the next
crime scene. When the denouement is occurring Dash and Violet have both received what they
wanted, Dash got to do track and show off a small portion of his running and Violet is now confident
in herself and not timid. This allows the viewers to witness the transformation the two kids have gone
through. The next scene we see is an action shot of a new villain emerging from the ground causing
conflict and right away the whole family has their masks on and are ready to fight.

Patience In Romeo And Juliet
A wise man does not try to hurry history. Many wars have been avoided by patience and many have
been precipitated by reckless haste says Adlai Stevenson, a former UN Ambassador who had to work
with people from many different backgrounds and get them to agree on sensitive topics. These
enlightened words from Stevenson can easily relate to the love story of Romeo and Juliet, a story that
tells the tale of two young teenagers who become lovestruck over one another the minute they lay
their eyes upon one another. The young couple desperately wants to get married, but their feuding
families, the Capulets and the Montagues, are in their way. Romeo and Juliet tragically decided to
make extreme decisions in order to have a chance to be together ... Show more content on

Either thou or I or both must go with him! (3.1.133 134). The play makes clear that the death of
Romeo s best friend pushed him into letting haste control his actions, which led him to kill Tybalt. It
illustrates how anytime a decision is made in a hasty manner, it will lead to worse outcome. In my
past, I was in a friendship were I was enraged about some of the things that one of my friends was
saying to me and my friends. I became impatient and didn t want to try to work things out, which led
me to ending the friendship. If I would have had more patience and tried to manage the problem, it
may have prevented the awkwardness that still exists between us to this day and could have allowed
the friendship to stay. Another example from the story that illustrated haste is the passage, Thursday is
near. Lay hand on heart. Advise. If you be mine, I ll give you to my friend. If you be not, hang! Beg!
Starve! Die in the streets! (3.5.203 204). Shakespeare continues to present how the characters like
Lord and Lady Capulet reacted with more rashness and how their rashness continued to negatively
impact the outcome. Juliet s parents thought it would be best for her well being to marry her off since
she was upset about the death of her cousin Tybalt. They ended up pushing her into a situation she
didn t want to be in without consulting

Collectivism In Ayn Rand s Anthem
Ayn Rand uses the theme of collectivism and why it is evil throughout Anthem. Collectivism refers to
the practice or principle of giving a group priority over each individual in it. The main character in her
novel is Equality 7 2521, and she talks about how he despises the society s way of collectivism. I will
be talking about the ways in which Ayn Rand uses Equality 7 2521 to show why collectivism is an evil
thing, and what he tries to do when he wants to change the rule of his society. The collectivist society
in which Equality 7 2521 lives within is similar to the Nazi and Communists states of the twentieth
century. The leaders of this society do not permit individual thinking, but to be like a fragment in a
group whose purpose is to serve its needs. Equality 7 2521 states, We are one in all and all in one.
There are no men but only the great WE, One, indivisible and forever. (Chapter 1, Page 19)
Individuals have no identity of their own, and come to the realization in their society that they are just
part of one, large group. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
How are there children being born that are raised in this society? The Palace of Mating is an evil place
in sexual relations because this place allows two people, not by choice, to conceive a child. Equality 7

the Palace of Mating and the pure love felt by Equality 7 2521. Equality 7 2521 states, This is the time
each spring when all the men older than twenty and all the women older than eighteen are sent for one
night to the City Palace of Mating. And each of the men have one of the women assigned to them by
the Council of Eugenics. Children are born each winter, but women never see their children and

The British parliament passed four policies during 1765 to 1767, Stamp Act, Quartering Acts,
Townshend Duty Act and Declaratory Act. They were all approved after French and Indian War.
Because of the British troops won the battle with French in North American in 1763, as a matter of
course British took place lands that had belonged to France. In order to control these lands well,
British government passed these four laws. But these laws didn t achieve the desired results.

In the same year, another important policy Stamp Act was promulgated. Law passed by parliament in
1765 to raise revenue in America by requiring taxed, stamped paper for legal documents, publication,
and playing cards (Goldfield, P124). Pleasant hours fly past; this law aroused public discontent.
Colonists fought against this policy. For example, a group of people planned to intimidate Andrew
Oliver to make him quit office in August 1765. (Goldfield, P125). And they also required British
government to repeal Stamp Act. Finally, in 1776, parliament ended the Stamp Act, but it approved the
Declaratory Act at the same day (Goldfield, p126). This was a statement saying the colonies should
serve Britain, and that Britain government could promulgate any law (Goldfield, p126).Although,
British repeal Stamp Act, they didn t stop demanding taxes. In 1767, Parliament promulgated some
new taxes policies called the Townshend Duty Act, which stipulated that British

Hallsville Independent School Board Meeting Essay
Hallsville Independent School District Board Meeting
The Hallsville Independent School District board meeting was very conductive. An agenda was
handed out to everyone present, and it had every point to be made at the meeting neat and organized
for everyone to follow. The meeting is mostly open to the public which provides a great way for
everyone to feel up to date with what is going on in the school district, and be able to help in any way
they can when problems arise. Once the superintendent had finished speaking about who was being
recognized, the updated itinerary, and the HISD Education Foundation Report, he closed the meeting
from the public. School board meetings benefit the community by letting the people not associated
with a job through the school know what is going on in the district.

Confronting an ongoing world economic recession and very high rates of unemployment throughout
certain parts of the world such as Europe, the EEC was looking for many new ways to get the most out
of its union. June, 1984, a meeting in Fontainebleau, France, established a Committee on Institutional
Affairs under the chairmanship of Irish Senator James Doodge. The committee proposed not only that
the EEC work harder toward achieving the already stated goal of abolishing frontiers with the
common market, but also that the European Parliament be given more decision making power and the
European Community be allowed a greater role in security and defense matters. Lord Arthur

character everyone watching the film would want to be. It is clear that the main character in the film is

Another reason Tom Joad is the best character in Grapes of Wrath is because he is one of the hardest

By Mark Twain Mark Twain Fenimore Cooper s Literary...
The American writer Mark Twain wrote Fenimore Cooper s Literary Offenses in response and his own
opinion about Cooper s novels. In this essay, Twain criticizes the major mistakes and rules which
Cooper violates in writing his series, The Leatherstocking Tales. A large portion of the rules which
Twain writes about can be found in Cooper s novel, The Last of the Mohicans. His self made rules are
very encompassing of Cooper s literary flaws which can easily be pointed out through his novel. With
Cooper violating these basic set of rules, he makes his novel seem very rushed and undeveloped as the
rules which do not follow encompass very crucial criteria which not only these kinds of novels must
have, but any novel must do.
In his essay, Twain criticizes Cooper on his inability to develop characters or to even have them
develop throughout the novel. Twain writes this is his essay when he writes, They require that the
author shall make the reader feel a deep interest in the personages of his tale and in their fate; and that
he shall make the reader love the good people in the tale and hate the bad ones. (Twain 2). Twain notes
that there should be a definite distinction between protagonist and antagonist of the story. Overall,
Cooper does a decent, but a sloppy job in distinguishing the main conflict which each side is on. For
example, the disputes between Magua and the Europeans in the novel is not developed enough in The
Last of the Mohicans to be able to confidently

Essay about Gender Roles in Ancient Greek Society
Gender Roles in Ancient Greek Society Throughout history, the roles of women and men have always
differed to some degree. In ancient Greece, the traditional roles were clear cut and defined. Women
stayed home to care for children and do housework while men left to work. This system of society was
not too far off the hunter gatherer concept where women cared for the house and the men hunted.
Intriguingly enough, despite the customary submissive role, women had a more multifaceted role and
image in society as juxtaposed with the rather simple role men played. Morals for the two were also
different. Men obviously had the upper hand with women being the traditional passive. For an
example, it was quite acceptable for a man to commit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As shown, women were considered naturally submissive as in most other old cultures. This is
somewhat understandable as women were the ones who bore children and men provided for the family
unit. As time progressed, this stereotype was over emphasized into what is portrayed in these plays
and poems. Despite this submissive image, Greek women were not considered naïve, but a pleasurable
if a bit foolish kind of a creature. In Aristophane?s play, Lysistrata, this concept is amply portrayed.
Most of the women are portrayed, as impulsive individuals while men are carnal gluttons.
Notwithstanding this facet of their image women could also be wily as Medea and Lysistrata: ?What is
more, you were born a woman, And women, though most helpless in doing good deeds, Are of every
evil the cleverest of contrives? The deceitful female is epitomized by the character of Aphrodite in
Euripidies?s Hippolytus. Due to having her altar neglected (as in the case of Psyche) she plotted to
bring ruin to Hippolytus and all those who loved him. At the end of the play, Artemis plots revenge
against Aphrodite (also called Cypris) saying: ?Hush, that is enough! You shall not be unavenged,
Cypris shall find the angry shafts she hurls Against you for you?re your piety and innocence Shall cost
her dear. I?ll wait until she loves a mortal next time, And with this hand?with these unerring arrows

Police Misconduct And Criminal Crime
While police officers have many responsibilities, one of their primary duties is to protect and serve
their community. Due to the power given to police officers and the stresses that accompany that
power, police departments across time and the world have turned up some kind of police misconduct
or corruption. There are thousands of instances in which the power of an officer has been exercised
unethically and unlawfully.
Police misconduct and corruption is one of the oldest problems in the police force. Forms of police
misconduct can include police crime, occupational crime, corruption, and abuse of authority. Within
these forms lie actions of delinquency, which can include, but are not limited to police brutality, illegal
stops, or taking advantage of business owners in exchange of a blind eye, mooching, favoritism,
prejudice and racial profiling, extortion, or perjury. Misconduct among police officers can also include
negligence and carelessness. While ending police misconduct is crucial, it has proven difficult because
of the challenge of defining what constitutes as misconduct, and because misconduct or corruption can
go undetected for long amounts of time.
Police misconduct and corruption have been around as long as professional policing has. The origin
and development of professional policing began in the early nineteenth century under the direction of
England s Home Secretary, Sir Robert Peel. Peel implemented the Metropolitan Police Act of 1829,

A look no one else can steal, which is ironic for her appearance was stolen or inspired from someone
else. Arleen Sorkin is the inspiration for Harley Quinn. When Sorkin appears in an episode of Days of
Our Lives dressed as a jester, roller skating, and having some make up on she inspired Paul Dini to
bring Harley to life. In the article, The Strange, Hidden Story of Harley Quinn Vulture, writer
Abraham Riesman gives the best description of the appearance Harley Quinn holds. Nevertheless,
Timm was and is a perfectionist and labored to give this cameo character a distinctive look: a red and
black full body jumpsuit adorned with playing card diamonds, ruffled cuffs, and a dual pronged jester
s cap, Abraham describes in his article the way Bruce Timm animated Harley Quinn. That image and
appearance of Harley is the one every fan knows and loves up until 2009, when video game creators
introduced a remastered version of Harley for the video game Batman: Arkham Asylum. In the video
game, Harley switches out her classic wear for something more along the lines of thigh high boots and
a corset that nearly made her boobs pop out. Although, she still maintained the makeup Harley Quinn
has. Many fans felt as though this was just a sexualization of Harley Quinn, and her appearance got
worse or severely sexualized with time. In 2010, Harley was once again reintroduced to comics, this
time with very little clothing covering her. Clearly the very little clothing was not working for the
crazy clown, because just lest than three years later D.C. reintroduced her again the New 52 comic
books. To get a great glimpse of the appearance Harley holds, the readers can see it in Harley Quinn:

Differences Between Book And Movie
There were many differences between the book and the movie. The characters in the movie were very
different from what I had imagined them to be. For example, in the book, Benjamin s last name was

where Irene tries to get Gomez to confess to the murder of Lilliana (she pushes him to the extreme)
this was not in the book. The soccer scene was also not in the book. In the book, he is getting a bus

U2 V. Negativland Summary
I think that the court s ruling should be overturned because I don t believe that Negativland violated
the copyright law by sampling from U2.
In the article entitled U2 Negativland the case from our side Negativland believes their work does not
violate copyright law. Negativland asserted, It was used for purposes of fair comment, parody, and
cultural criticism (151). In other words, Negativland s work was intended to make fun of U2 s song
entitled I still haven t found what i m looking for , which is protected under the fair use part of the
copyright law.
I agree because the artist named Weird Al Yankovic. He uses the instrumentals for a popular songs and
changes the lyrics to make fun of it. Yankovic has never been sued for his work because they are
parodies. Since Negativland made a parody of U2 s I still haven t found what I m looking for , they
should not be sued.
Negativland released their album with a huge title saying U2 and Negativland in a smaller font with an
image of the WW2 U 2 spy plane on it. U2 s label, Island Records, sued Negativland claiming that
they violated the trademark law because

My Personal Experience with Prejudice in America Essay
Someone once asked me how I felt about prejudice. In contrast to what? , or should I say, shocking in
all its forms. Initially my response was puzzling. Let me explain. If you were to ask me how I felt
about prejudice in the United States I would have to say, Here, I am very aware of my skin color. It is
no secret that the US has had a long historical battle with racism. I am able to be educated at the
collegiate level, due wholly, or in part, to the Civil Rights movement of the 1960 s. It is the reason I
am allowed to vote in this country. The reason I can walk in any public arena and claim what is
equally, or rightfully mine, subjected to law. It does not mean there is always equal application based

The Counselor s response, she could expect to get in and I could too, as long as I recognized that it
may take a little more strategy and energy on my part, although my grades and aptitude for the school
curriculum were much better. The innuendo of the suggestion was based on the color of my skin, not
my nationality, not my gender. Shocking indeed. Living abroad, in Europe, specifically Germany,
Great Britian, France, Italy, and the Czech Republic, brought to my attention a different kind of
prejudice. One based on my nationality. Americans are rude. Americans are narrow minded.
Americans are spoiled. Americans are self centered. Americans never try to blend in to the culture.
Americans only speak English and expect everyone else to speak it too. I heard all too often. When I
lived in France, my ex husband and I were in a sculpture gallery, interested in purchasing a few pieces.
My ex husband, of Italian decent, but he spoke no French, approached the sales clerk about a piece.
He expressed in English his interest and inquired of the cost. The sales clerk responded in French, I
hate for Americans to come in the shop. I don t want to serve them. They always feel so entitled to
service the way they demand. I responded in French, our deepest apologies. The write up on the piece
was in English and although my husband (at the time) was not formally versed in the language, he
made the assumption that English was spoken based on the

Low And Decreasing Self Esteem During Adolescence
Low and Decreasing Self Esteem During Adolescence Critique
Steiger, Allemand, Robins, and Fend (2014) hypothesized that not only the level but also the change in
self esteem affect depression. Using data from over a 23 year span, they investigated adolescent level
and change in self esteem and examined their predictive effects on adult depressive symptoms two
decades later. Self esteem was assessed annually from age 12 to 16, and depression was assessed at
age 16 and 35. Subsequently, they found that results demonstrated that both the level and change in
self esteem served as predictors for adult depression (Steiger et al., 2014). Individuals who entered
adolescence with low self esteem, and or whose self esteem declined further during ... Show more

The participants rated each item on a scale consisting of 0 for disagree, and 1 for agree. The items
were added to create a total score ranging from 0 to 8. Furthermore, domain specific self esteem was
also measured. This was a measurement of physical appearance and academic competence.
Subsequently, each self esteem domain was measured with six items. Participants rated each item on a
scale consisting of 0 for not true and 1 for true for me. The items were then added to create scores
ranging from 0 to 6. Further still, depression at age 16 was measured using 13 items from the original
Beck Depression Inventory, while depression from age 12 15 was not measured (Steiger et al., 2014).
Subsequently, participants were asked how often they had experienced depressive symptoms during
the preceding week. The participants were informed to indicate which sentence out of four possible
answers reflected their feeling most accurately. In adulthood, seven items from the Beck Depression
Inventory were used to measure depressive symptoms. The Participants were asked how often they
typically experience depressive symptoms. Participants rated each item on a 6 point scale.
Consequently, Steiger et al. (2014) controlled for three variables when examining the effects of self
esteem on depression. First, they controlled for peer popularity when examining the effect of global
self esteem. Peer popularity was rated through peers of the same school and

Nietzsche s Morals
In 1887, philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche had written a collection of essays entitled The Genealogy of
Morals. Nietzsche ideas was an inscribed assessment based upon ethical principles. Nietzsche
analyzes the connections and significance of the contrasting moral concepts in a distinctive section
where he elaborates on the good and the bad as well as the good and evil , by expressing his thoughts
on slave morality that was created by the Jews.
In the beginning, Nietzsche states that the priest is worthless and that they learn to hate. The priest
hatred is powerful that it causes them to be destructive and it is known throughout history. Nietzsche
compares the Jews to the priest caste who were the most hated in human history. The Jews somehow
managed to reverse the moral assessments associating themselves as good but, the powerful nobles
will be known as evil and damned for eternity. However, Nietzsche said, It was the Jews who started
the slave revolt in morals (445)
In the following section, Nietzsche explains that the reassessment of values effected by the Jews was
occurring and that they were not noticeable. One of their achievements was the development of the
religious teachings Christianity. He states that the Christian love violated the Jewish hatred and that
the representation of Jesus and his crucifixion was the persuasion of the moral code. The embodiment
and crucifixion of Jesus showed that annulment of the moral code, was once good became evil and

The Plight Of Women In Ancient Greece
Since Greek days, the worthiness of women was judge and determine by men and the society. They
degraded the women value by tyrannizing over them, moreover, father and husband treated them like
they are properties or a parcel and not a human being. Historically, according to The Plight of Women
in Ancient Greece, women were created as a punishment for men s thievery. In addition, the passage
also includes the statement of how Gods created them to be as beautiful as goddess yet full of

Repeat Entrepreneurs Case Study Essay
Introduction This paper will examine whether repeat entrepreneurs search for opportunities differently
than entrepreneurs who found only one company. Before examining the case for or against this theory,
a brief discussion what makes up an entrepreneur opens this paper. From there it moves into a brief
discussion of Howard Stevenson and his importance within the field of study of entrepreneurism.
Then the focus turns to a case for or against whether repeat entrepreneurs search for opportunities
differently than entrepreneurs who found only one company. To emphasize the findings discussed, a
brief case study of a successful entrepreneur hopes to reinforce the concepts discussed. The paper will
close with a summation of the findings and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A Case Against
Repeat entrepreneurs know they have the ability to identify an opportunity and turn that opportunity
into a business. In most cases, they have already done it at least once. Unfortunately, this does not
mean that the first business was a success or that they will be able to repeat the success the first
business may have had. In fact, if the first business was a failure, there are indications that the second
business may fail as well. Recent research shows that instead of learning from mistakes, entrepreneurs
are just as apt to be overoptimistic after failure as before. Their overoptimism remains undimmed by
failure (Ucbasaran, Westhead Wright, 2011). This overoptimism can cause an entrepreneur to take on
risky opportunities, fail to properly plan for the unforeseen or waste financial resources instead of
looking for and finding the right opportunity.
Successful entrepreneurs looking to become repeat entrepreneurs may incorrectly over focus on
recreating their success that ideas for future opportunities are not as strong as the previous ones.
Where the first opportunity an entrepreneur pursued may have grown from an organic problem solving
process, repeat entrepreneurs may look to duplicate that success instead of taking the time to grow into
another opportunity as organically as the first. The greatest, and more crucial, challenge

In 1991 the super Nes is released. Then the original PlayStation is released in 1995 becoming
extremely popular. To combat this popularity Nintendo released the Nintendo 64 in 1996. It includes
favorites such as Mario 64, Zelda, and Metroid. The PS2 is released in 2000 marking the beginning of

Analysis Of My Dietary Intake
Analysis of My Dietary Intake

From my 3 day dietary report, I found out that my average intake of Alpha Tocopherol, otherwise
known as vitamin E, is far from my goal intake. Based on the analysis, my goal daily intake should be
15 mg but my actual intake is 3.22 mg, which is far from enough. In this paper, I will analyze the
reason for my low intake and how to change this situation by improving my diet. Looking at my daily
intake, I realize I have only been consuming one third of what I should be having of vitamin E.
Vitamin E is an antioxidant serving as one of the body s main defences against oxidative damage.

In my current diet, there is a sufficient lack of fresh vegetables, which are high in vitamin E. Since
most of the food I ate are either deep fried or cooked with high heat in the cooking process (for
example vegetable stew), the heat destroys vitamin E. Firstly, I can change my way of eating
vegetables from cooked product to salads. Salad dressing and shortening are high in Vitamin E, and
they are easily found in the school cafeteria. Salad with dressing can provide me with most of the
vitamin E I need, 1 teaspoon of mayonnaise made from safflower contains 3.0 mg of it and 1 teaspoon
of canola oil contains 2.4 mg. Vegetables themselves also contain vitamin E, if I have salad twice a
day that will take up to half of what is needed everyday. Another reason I am not getting enough is
because I eat a lot of white bread and white long grained rice, which all have the grain germ removed
during production. However, wheat germ is a good source of vitamin E; therefore, if I switch from
white bread to whole wheat bread and white rice to brown rice, it will increase my vitamin E intake.
Since 30 grams of wheat germ contain 6 mg of vitamin E, by introducing them into my diet I will
make up the other half of my daily need for it. As for snacks, I could start eating more nuts since they
only contribute to a small amount, it will make up for days where intakes are

The Matilda Effect
As writer, Virginia Woolf, once said, for most of history, anonymous was a woman. Elizabeth Gould
Davis pointed out in one of her books, that women take as great a risk of anonymity when they merge
their names with men in literary collaboration as when they merge in matrimony. According to
psychologist Steve Biko, the first weapon of the oppressor is the mind of the oppressed. Women s
history evaporates because our culture has a stake in erasing women from history and denying that
their participation or leadership ever existed.
The controversy surrounding women s involvement in science is great, and there have been countless
instances in history of women s discoveries and breakthroughs being credited to a man. So many
times, in fact, that there is a term specifically for this occurrence. Known as the Matilda effect , named
after women s rights activist Matilda Joslyn Gage, it refers to the process of the suppression of women
s contribution to science in regards to incorrect accreditation to a male counterpart for a woman s
research. It has seen a woman s scientific findings appropriated and Nobel Prizes awarded to male
colleagues and supervisors. Not only is this clearly unfair on every conceivable level, it highlights the

Punishment In The Middle Ages Essay
The fall of the Roman Empire marked the Middle Ages from 500ce to 1500ce which brought with it
new ideas and systems. As medieval society developed, changes and consistencies occurred in law and
order. In particular, continuity and change occurred in punishments, trial procedures, and court
systems.
Punishments in the Middle Ages were harsh and horrific, with change occurring as heads of state and
laws changed. In the Middle Ages, punishments were used as a deterrent to gain peasants obedience.
Types of punishments included torture, mutilation, and public humiliation. When the Normans
invaded England in the 11th century, (Norman Conquest of England, 2017) many changes were made
to punishments. William the Conqueror used the death penalty ... Show more content on

In the Early Middle Ages, only Trial by Ordeal was used. This trial was based on the belief that God
would save the Innocent and punish the guilty and had horrific methods, such as placing an arm in
boiling water or holding an iron bar. (Tol Zagora 2014, p. 63) With the Norman Conquest in 1066,
William the Conqueror introduced trial by combat (Rickards, 2012). Trial by combat was used for the
nobles, where the accused would fight the accuser. William the Conqueror believed that God would
protect the Innocent when the parties fought. The guilty would ve then be punished severely (Easton
Saldais 2011, pp. 330, 331). With the creation of the Magna Carta in 1215 (Trueman, 2016) there were
many changes to the Trial Procedures. The Magna Carta abolished Trial by Ordeal and replaced it with
Trial by Jury, which involved a jury hearing a case and deciding the guilt or innocence of the accused.
Many people didn t trust trial by jury, which led to a law being created in 1275 stating that if a
criminal didn t choose trial by jury then they were tortured (Addison, et al. 2011). Therefore, evidence
shows changes in power and laws transformed trial

  • 2. Historical Context Analysis Studying the context in which a text was written provides valuable insight to the outside factors that may have had an influence on the text and its original meaning. This includes the type of government, societal norms, and the type of education available. These factors influence the gender norms and their specific roles in society during that time. The Household Codes were written during in ancient times under a Greco Roman government. As a result of this type of government, specific laws and standards were set in place by the government and reinforced by society which had an influence over what women were able to do. When the historical context is recognized, the text will be interpreted in a way that the author had intended and not taken out of context. This is essential for modern interpreters of the Bible because the social location of the individuals in the present society is different from the individuals in antiquity. When interpreting the Bible, there are multiple methods that can be used and different presuppositions that the reader can bring to their understanding of the material. According to Hauer and Young, there are three complementary paths a modern reader can take in serious study of the Bible (Hauer, 1). One of these paths includes analyzing the historical world of the Bible. The historical world refers to the events and situations that form contexts for understanding the Bible as it was being written and interpreted (Hauer, 1). These refer to things such as wars or the type of government that is in control because that affects the audience of the writing and what issues within the community are being addressed by the writer. The Bible has a large influence over modern society because it was composed in, and became part of history (Hauer, 1). With such a long history, the Bible has been established as an ... Radiation is extremely beneficial in the standards of medicine and is a very predominant as well as an effective way of not only creating energy, but testing how old a fossil is or even how a substance will stand to the test of time. On behalf of the advancements brought to the surface by these developments, the possibility of genetically altering crops with radiation has become possible. Gamma gardens are arranged in a spherical pattern with a removable radiation source in the center. The plants that were subjected to this would be laid out almost like slices of pie. Starting at the center of this spherical shape, the plants would radiate outwards from where the radiation source was. This layout was specifically chosen so that there would be different levels of exposure though out the experiments varying along the radius of the garden. The plants towards the outer edges would have growth abnormalities and other defects. In contrast, the plants closest to the center would usually be found dead by the end of the duration of the experiment. Because the plants towards the outer rim of the garden survived and feature a wide variety of mutations, they were taking under much interest and studied. Most gamma gardens were on national laboratories in then the U.S.S.R., Europe and the U.S. A disease resistant peppermint plant is an example of a crop developed from this scientific experimenting. Another attempt was made in 1935 with a single line authorizing a study of health insurance in the Social Security bill. In 1945, President Harry Truman endorsed universal health insurance. To be followed by a 1951, plan for Old Age and Survivors Insurance was introduced. Then in 1965, Medicare was passed under then President Lyndon Johnson (Oberlander, 2015). The model bill drafted by Progressives in 1915 for national health insurance, contained limited coverage for the working class and those who made less than $1200 a year, which included dependents. President Harry Truman in 1945 supported a national health insurance, in which; opponents labeled it social medicine in their crusade against Communism. Truman s plan was to be a single plan which would include all classes of society. It failure was due partially to the stigmatism of anti communism and as before the special interest groups (Oberlander, 2015)(Palmer, 1999). President Lyndon Johnson, by restricting eligibility to the elderly, limiting hospital care and connecting it to Social Security, Medicare became a viable plan. Moving the concentration of the debate to the aged community a grass roots support of seniors pushed the agenda into the national spotlight. Comparative Analysis of The Attention Getter and The Denouement: In the movie The Incredibles, the director Brad Bird had the beginning of the film start with interviews of the heroes to subvert viewer expectations and have the audience focus on the people behind the masks. After interview scene, an action police chase takes place so that the audience would be on the edge of their seats interested to watch the film. The attention getter draws the audience in as they can easily understand the heroes personalities before the action takes place. The police chase is fast paced and there are lots of fast camera movements occurring. As well, in the attention getter Mr. Incredible is trying to multitask and time is ticking which leaves the audience with curiosity to see what will happen. It s easy to observe that Mr. Incredible works alone and seems extremely excited to fight crime as every time he gets a crime in progress notification he looks at his watch and states, I ve got time. And speeds to the next crime scene. When the denouement is occurring Dash and Violet have both received what they wanted, Dash got to do track and show off a small portion of his running and Violet is now confident in herself and not timid. This allows the viewers to witness the transformation the two kids have gone through. The next scene we see is an action shot of a new villain emerging from the ground causing conflict and right away the whole family has their masks on and are ready to fight. ... • 7. Patience In Romeo And Juliet A wise man does not try to hurry history. Many wars have been avoided by patience and many have been precipitated by reckless haste says Adlai Stevenson, a former UN Ambassador who had to work with people from many different backgrounds and get them to agree on sensitive topics. These enlightened words from Stevenson can easily relate to the love story of Romeo and Juliet, a story that tells the tale of two young teenagers who become lovestruck over one another the minute they lay their eyes upon one another. The young couple desperately wants to get married, but their feuding families, the Capulets and the Montagues, are in their way. Romeo and Juliet tragically decided to make extreme decisions in order to have a chance to be together ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Either thou or I or both must go with him! (3.1.133 134). The play makes clear that the death of Romeo s best friend pushed him into letting haste control his actions, which led him to kill Tybalt. It illustrates how anytime a decision is made in a hasty manner, it will lead to worse outcome. In my past, I was in a friendship were I was enraged about some of the things that one of my friends was saying to me and my friends. I became impatient and didn t want to try to work things out, which led me to ending the friendship. If I would have had more patience and tried to manage the problem, it may have prevented the awkwardness that still exists between us to this day and could have allowed the friendship to stay. Another example from the story that illustrated haste is the passage, Thursday is near. Lay hand on heart. Advise. If you be mine, I ll give you to my friend. If you be not, hang! Beg! Starve! Die in the streets! (3.5.203 204). Shakespeare continues to present how the characters like Lord and Lady Capulet reacted with more rashness and how their rashness continued to negatively impact the outcome. Juliet s parents thought it would be best for her well being to marry her off since she was upset about the death of her cousin Tybalt. • 8. Collectivism In Ayn Rand s Anthem Ayn Rand uses the theme of collectivism and why it is evil throughout Anthem. Collectivism refers to the practice or principle of giving a group priority over each individual in it. The main character in her novel is Equality 7 2521, and she talks about how he despises the society s way of collectivism. I will be talking about the ways in which Ayn Rand uses Equality 7 2521 to show why collectivism is an evil thing, and what he tries to do when he wants to change the rule of his society. The collectivist society in which Equality 7 2521 lives within is similar to the Nazi and Communists states of the twentieth century. The leaders of this society do not permit individual thinking, but to be like a fragment in a group whose purpose is to serve its needs. Equality 7 2521 states, We are one in all and all in one. • 14. By Mark Twain Mark Twain Fenimore Cooper s Literary... The American writer Mark Twain wrote Fenimore Cooper s Literary Offenses in response and his own opinion about Cooper s novels. In this essay, Twain criticizes the major mistakes and rules which Cooper violates in writing his series, The Leatherstocking Tales. A large portion of the rules which Twain writes about can be found in Cooper s novel, The Last of the Mohicans. His self made rules are very encompassing of Cooper s literary flaws which can easily be pointed out through his novel. With Cooper violating these basic set of rules, he makes his novel seem very rushed and undeveloped as the rules which do not follow encompass very crucial criteria which not only these kinds of novels must have, but any novel must do. In his essay, Twain criticizes Cooper on his inability to develop characters or to even have them develop throughout the novel. Twain writes this is his essay when he writes, They require that the author shall make the reader feel a deep interest in the personages of his tale and in their fate; and that he shall make the reader love the good people in the tale and hate the bad ones. (Twain 2). Twain notes that there should be a definite distinction between protagonist and antagonist of the story. Overall, Cooper does a decent, but a sloppy job in distinguishing the main conflict which each side is on. For example, the disputes between Magua and the Europeans in the novel is not developed enough in The Last of the Mohicans to be able to confidently ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. Essay about Gender Roles in Ancient Greek Society Gender Roles in Ancient Greek Society Throughout history, the roles of women and men have always differed to some degree. In ancient Greece, the traditional roles were clear cut and defined. Women stayed home to care for children and do housework while men left to work. This system of society was not too far off the hunter gatherer concept where women cared for the house and the men hunted. Intriguingly enough, despite the customary submissive role, women had a more multifaceted role and image in society as juxtaposed with the rather simple role men played. Morals for the two were also different. Men obviously had the upper hand with women being the traditional passive. For an example, it was quite acceptable for a man to commit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As shown, women were considered naturally submissive as in most other old cultures. This is somewhat understandable as women were the ones who bore children and men provided for the family unit. As time progressed, this stereotype was over emphasized into what is portrayed in these plays and poems. Despite this submissive image, Greek women were not considered naïve, but a pleasurable if a bit foolish kind of a creature. In Aristophane?s play, Lysistrata, this concept is amply portrayed. Most of the women are portrayed, as impulsive individuals while men are carnal gluttons. Notwithstanding this facet of their image women could also be wily as Medea and Lysistrata: ?What is more, you were born a woman, And women, though most helpless in doing good deeds, Are of every evil the cleverest of contrives? The deceitful female is epitomized by the character of Aphrodite in Euripidies?s Hippolytus. Due to the power given to police officers and the stresses that accompany that power, police departments across time and the world have turned up some kind of police misconduct or corruption. There are thousands of instances in which the power of an officer has been exercised unethically and unlawfully. Police misconduct and corruption is one of the oldest problems in the police force. Forms of police misconduct can include police crime, occupational crime, corruption, and abuse of authority. Within these forms lie actions of delinquency, which can include, but are not limited to police brutality, illegal stops, or taking advantage of business owners in exchange of a blind eye, mooching, favoritism, prejudice and racial profiling, extortion, or perjury. Misconduct among police officers can also include negligence and carelessness. While ending police misconduct is crucial, it has proven difficult because of the challenge of defining what constitutes as misconduct, and because misconduct or corruption can go undetected for long amounts of time. Who knew that a crazy, red and black loving, villain physiatrist would not be a fan of the pescatarian world. Harleen Quinzel, better known as Harley Quinn, has been around the book world since the 1990s. Yet still very freshly created from an inspiration, Harley Quinn has taken over mainstream media in such little time. Being a villain, many fans of the comic world may think she could possible be hated more than loved. But none the less, Harley Quinn has remained a fan and public favorite for some time now. When Sorkin appears in an episode of Days of Our Lives dressed as a jester, roller skating, and having some make up on she inspired Paul Dini to bring Harley to life. In the article, The Strange, Hidden Story of Harley Quinn Vulture, writer Abraham Riesman gives the best description of the appearance Harley Quinn holds. Nevertheless, Timm was and is a perfectionist and labored to give this cameo character a distinctive look: a red and black full body jumpsuit adorned with playing card diamonds, ruffled cuffs, and a dual pronged jester s cap, Abraham describes in his article the way Bruce Timm animated Harley Quinn. That image and appearance of Harley is the one every fan knows and loves up until 2009, when video game creators introduced a remastered version of Harley for the video game Batman: Arkham Asylum. In the video game, Harley switches out her classic wear for something more along the lines of thigh high boots and a corset that nearly made her boobs pop out. Although, she still maintained the makeup Harley Quinn has. Many fans felt as though this was just a sexualization of Harley Quinn, and her appearance got worse or severely sexualized with time. In 2010, Harley was once again reintroduced to comics, this time with very little clothing covering her. Clearly the very little clothing was not working for the crazy clown, because just lest than three years later D.C. reintroduced her again the New 52 comic books. To get a great glimpse of the appearance Harley holds, the readers can see it in Harley Quinn: Volume One Hot in the City. For example, in the book, Benjamin s last name was different from that in the movie. In the movie the love story between Ben and Irene was were powerful watching, Reading it didn t have the same effect as visually seeing it. In the movie, the scene where Irene tries to get Gomez to confess to the murder of Lilliana (she pushes him to the extreme) this was not in the book. The soccer scene was also not in the book. Low And Decreasing Self Esteem During Adolescence Low and Decreasing Self Esteem During Adolescence Critique Steiger, Allemand, Robins, and Fend (2014) hypothesized that not only the level but also the change in self esteem affect depression. Using data from over a 23 year span, they investigated adolescent level and change in self esteem and examined their predictive effects on adult depressive symptoms two decades later. Self esteem was assessed annually from age 12 to 16, and depression was assessed at age 16 and 35. Subsequently, they found that results demonstrated that both the level and change in self esteem served as predictors for adult depression (Steiger et al., 2014). The Jews somehow managed to reverse the moral assessments associating themselves as good but, the powerful nobles will be known as evil and damned for eternity. However, Nietzsche said, It was the Jews who started the slave revolt in morals (445) In the following section, Nietzsche explains that the reassessment of values effected by the Jews was occurring and that they were not noticeable. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A Case Against Repeat entrepreneurs know they have the ability to identify an opportunity and turn that opportunity into a business. In most cases, they have already done it at least once. Unfortunately, this does not mean that the first business was a success or that they will be able to repeat the success the first business may have had. In fact, if the first business was a failure, there are indications that the second business may fail as well. Recent research shows that instead of learning from mistakes, entrepreneurs are just as apt to be overoptimistic after failure as before. Their overoptimism remains undimmed by failure (Ucbasaran, Westhead Wright, 2011). This overoptimism can cause an entrepreneur to take on risky opportunities, fail to properly plan for the unforeseen or waste financial resources instead of looking for and finding the right opportunity. Successful entrepreneurs looking to become repeat entrepreneurs may incorrectly over focus on recreating their success that ideas for future opportunities are not as strong as the previous ones. Where the first opportunity an entrepreneur pursued may have grown from an organic problem solving process, repeat entrepreneurs may look to duplicate that success instead of taking the time to grow into another opportunity as organically as the first. Since most of the food I ate are either deep fried or cooked with high heat in the cooking process (for example vegetable stew), the heat destroys vitamin E. Firstly, I can change my way of eating vegetables from cooked product to salads. Salad dressing and shortening are high in Vitamin E, and they are easily found in the school cafeteria. Salad with dressing can provide me with most of the vitamin E I need, 1 teaspoon of mayonnaise made from safflower contains 3.0 mg of it and 1 teaspoon of canola oil contains 2.4 mg. Vegetables themselves also contain vitamin E, if I have salad twice a day that will take up to half of what is needed everyday. Another reason I am not getting enough is because I eat a lot of white bread and white long grained rice, which all have the grain germ removed during production. However, wheat germ is a good source of vitamin E; therefore, if I switch from white bread to whole wheat bread and white rice to brown rice, it will increase my vitamin E intake. Since 30 grams of wheat germ contain 6 mg of vitamin E, by introducing them into my diet I will make up the other half of my daily need for it. Elizabeth Gould Davis pointed out in one of her books, that women take as great a risk of anonymity when they merge their names with men in literary collaboration as when they merge in matrimony. According to psychologist Steve Biko, the first weapon of the oppressor is the mind of the oppressed. Women s history evaporates because our culture has a stake in erasing women from history and denying that their participation or leadership ever existed.
