The Gods In Geoffrey Philp s The Cattle Of The Sun God
As the suitors, Odysseus and most of the people in the Greek world could tell you it is a lot better to
have the gods on your side than as your enemy. Odysseus journey home in the Odyssey was a great
example of how the gods can affect your life. One the reasons his journey took so long was because of
the gods intervening. Although without the help of a few gods, he would not have gotten home at all.
In the image, it shows a ship far away from home. It also shows waves that signify Poseidon not
letting Odysseus go home. The image is very good at showing the hopelessness the ship in. Also,
Geoffrey Philp, in his poem The Cattle of the Sun God shows a similar point of the power and what
can happen if the gods are betrayed. In Philip s writing, it shows only how awful the gods can be. It is
about Odysseus s crew making a dumb decision and the gods acting as their own system of Karma. In
the poem, Philip uses the consequences of the mortals mistake to demonstrate the power of the gods.
The mortals in Greek world have learned about how awful it is to have a god as your enemy. In the
Odyssey the main character, Odysseus makes a brutal mistake that got a god to be his enemy. In book
9 after, Odysseus blinds Poseidon s son Polyphemus and tricks him to think his name is nobody. But
after he escapes, he shows hubris and starts to taunt, he mockingly gloats, Cyclops if any man on earth
ask you who blinded you, shamed you so say Odysseus raider of cities, he gouged your eye,

Keny Diverse And Multicultural Country
Kenya is a diverse and multicultural country with over fifty different tribes each with their own
distinct language. Kenya consists of three main ethnic groups; the Bantus, Nilotes and Cushites. These
three groups all have different religious and cultural practices ( Cultures of The World, Kenya ).
Although diverse, Kenya is mainly constituted of Bantus with the majority of them coming from the
Kikuyu tribe. Other major groups include the Luo, Maasai and Kalenjin.
Kenya is very lush and is mainly cool which attracted the interest of European explorers. Countries
such as Britain steadily increased their influence in the area by introducing missionaries and sending
explorers throughout the nation. By the late 19th century, Britain controlled Kenya and declared it a
British colony ( Countries and Their Cultures ). The British attracted people from Europe by creating
more economic and political opportunities for Europeans to move to Kenya. They would allocate large
pieces of land to British citizens, which would displace the natives, or offer them political positions in
the government. The British implemented segregation which led them to forcing Kenyans to work as
squatters on the land of the British but in truth, they weren t any different from slaves. Kenyans tried
resisting British policies by protesting but this only angered the British. The British colonists reacted
by killing twenty five people which came to be known as the Nairobi Massacre ( Countries and Their

Taking a Look at Home Schooling
Home schooling is a type of education that takes place in the home; it can be defined as parents or a
small group of students from a community studying an academic curriculum at home or any confined
place either for personal reasons or any other purpose. It has been a controversial choice for education
and has been opposed by many in the past since the early twentieth century as it was illegal in most
states. Home schooling topic which was not even considered earlier is now being regarded salient as
we can observe the drastic change from 19th century to now, Ray s studies shows that, A dramatic
change began around the late 1970s, one that resulted in slightly more than 2 million home schooled
students in grades K to 12 in the United States during the spring of 2010 (324) also, Between 1999
and 2007, homes schoolers in the United States increased by an estimated 74 percent twelve times the
rate of public school growth and now likely number more than two million altogether (Kunzman 76)
but Johnson has given the statistics in another perspective as Early home schoolers joined together to
win favourable legislative and judicial outcomes that resulted in the legalization of home schooling in
all 50 states by the early 1990s (298). Compared to any other countries More African Americans,
Native Americans, Muslims, wealthy urbanites, actors, musicians, and athletes have joined the ranks
of the home schooling (Johnson 304). Even though there are positive effects of home

The Social Action Theory and Symbolic Interactionism Essay
The Social Action Theory and Symbolic Interactionism Max Weber believed that individuals were the
key to society. He developed social action theory, the purpose of which was to find out why
individuals function in certain ways. He thought that every social action performed by an individual
had a meaning attached to it. Social actions are the result of conscious thought processes that take into
consideration the reactions of other individuals. Weber identified four types of social action which
include, reason (an instrumentally rational or calculated action), value or rational action (determined
by belief), emotion or effectual action (dependent upon the feelings of the individual), and traditional

These properties could be exchanged for money in the economic market he was of the opinion that
this position in the economic market place determined class position so that in theory there would be
as many class positions as economic positions. Therefore the class structure of society is essentially an
occupation structure. Social action theory recognises other divisions apart from simply class and also
recognises that consumption of goods (by which status groups are stratified) is just as important as the
production (by which class is stratified). It also draws attention to the importance of the individual and
their conscious actions. It does not however place enough emphasis on class divisions, as it tends to
concentrate more on status. Symbolic interactionists reject structure and believe that to study society,
the only way to do so is to concentrate on the individual. Both theories believe in understanding the
individual through the use of empathy. George Herbert Mead was mainly concerned with the
importance of language. Language distinguishes humans from animals and allows us to be aware of
our individuality. The use of symbols is a key element of language. They are used to give meanings to
particular events or objects and are learned by socialisation. Humans make them to assist them to

The Treatment Of Prostate Cancer
Prostate cancer is the one of the most lethal disease in the United Sates. The pattern of disease
recurrence being the major cause of morbidity and mortality. In spite of recent advances in our
understanding of the molecular mechanisms responsible for the development of prostate cancer, the
survival rate of men with this disease has remained relatively unchanged in over the decades. Since
the Nobel prize winning discovery by Dr. Huggins and Dr. Hodges (Huggins C., 1941) androgen
deprivation therapy is being used by over a half of a century as a primary treatment for advanced
prostate cancer. Even though androgen deprivation therapy remains a palliative treatment which lasts
around 2 3 years on average, and turn to hormone refractory (androgen independent) prostate cancer
with castrate level of testosterone. However, studies from the Sawyers group and others found that
castration resistant prostate cancers (CRPCs) remains on androgen receptor (AR) signaling which is
reactivated despite low serum androgen levels and targeting the androgen receptor (AR) signaling
pathway remains a keystone of treatment.
A targeted gene therapy approach is developed to activate the immune system to recognize prostate
cancer cells$$. It is designed new treatment, new drugs that specifically target specific biological
pathways deregulated in the cancer cells. Such therapy can affect the growth of cancer cells by
inferring with specific molecular mechanisms, which are involved in the growth,

My Guided Walk Through Experience
As I walked toward the entrance I took a deep breath and exhaled. Several emotions rushed through
my veins. I was nervous, anxious and curious to discover what lied behind the doors of the Model
Laboratory School. I had a positive attitude and a clear and open mind of what my observation hours
would teach me within the following months. I knew from previous experiences that each teacher had
their own philosophies, expectations, and rules they held for their students. I also knew that I, the
observer, would be gaining just as much knowledge as the students I came in contact with. Each grade
level has its own characteristic and unique qualities and I understand that the main objective of my
guided walk through experience was to explore my options and discover which grade level was
appropriate for me. The first class I observed during my guided walk through hours was Mrs. Corns
kindergarten class located in the lower elementary wing. At first glance I notice that the room was
vibrant and colorful. There were a few tables serrated around the room, along with an area rug and a
rocking chair located in the front of the class. An assistant teacher gathered all students to the rug and
began reading a story about the Cincinnati museum. During this time most students were engaged and
participating in questions. When a student got a question correct the teacher would show positive
feedback by giving them completes. I observed communication between peers, as they discussed their

The Positive Relationship Between Inflation And Inflation
Some variables in Economics are very closely related to each other. In many cases, the combination of
these variables can have an unexpected effect on the economy. One of these examples can be observed
when we compare inflation and unemployment rate. To establish this comparison in a short run period
of time, it will be beneficial to use the Phillip Curve. This curve can be used as a tool to represent the
positive relationship between inflation and unemployment in the short run. In order to comprehend the
positive relationship between inflation and unemployment first, we must know what inflation is, how
we define unemployment, and how we can use the Phillip Curve to make a functional comparison of
these two variables. Moreover, it will be very beneficial to analyze how expansionary fiscal policies
affect the relationship between unemployment and inflation. If we understand the meaning of each of
these variables in the economy, it will be easier to comprehend the logic of a short run trade off
between unemployment and inflation.
Inflation can be described as the sustained increase in the level price of goods and services over a
period of time. Inflation can affect the economy in positive and negative ways. One of the negative
ways in which inflation affects the economy is that it increases the opportunity cost of holding money,
in other words, it decreases the real value of money. Inflation is said to occur when there is an
excessive increase in the money supply. Among

Statistical Control Charts Essay
Introduction and History of Statistical Process Control Statistical Process Control (SPC) is a method
of controlling the quality of a manufacturing process and is most often affiliated with control charts.
However, SPC in reality is a group of tools and includes additional statistical and
evaluation/measurement methods. Smith, Megahed, Jones‐Farmer and Clark defined seven basic tools
of SPC including; histograms, check sheets, Pareto charts, cause and effect diagrams, defect
concentration diagrams, scatter diagrams and of course the aforementioned control charts (2014).
These tools represent the scope and overall purpose/pursuit of SPC which is; any statistical method
designed to detect changes in a process over time (Woodall Montgomery, 1999, p. 377). Since control
charts is often the most discussed of these seven tools; it is important to note there are many different
types of control charts. The main control charts include; process charts which are R charts and s
charts, non conforming item charts also known as p charts and np charts and finally average numbers
of non conformity charts or c charts and u charts (Woodall Montgomery, 1999).
Statistical Process Control experienced its most significant growth and expansion during the quality
revolution in the 1980 s (Woodall Montgomery, 1999). It was during this time period that the focal
point of quality changed from being merely acceptance or customer defined quality criteria to actual
process control (Woodall

Analysis Of The Husband s Secret By Liane Moriarty
The following lines are from Liane Moriarty s novel, the Husband s Secret. Rachel s best friend Marla
is hosting a Tupperware party in which Rachel has reluctantly agreed to attend. Rachel has avoided
attending parties since her seventeen year old daughter Janie was found murdered numerous years
ago; she hates the way people speak to her, monitoring everything they say in order to not cause her
more pain. Marla, who does not tip toe around Rachel, reminded her that Janie would have loved
Tupperware because she was always so organized. And on she went about the room, serving food and
compliments, fixing every guest with that strange piercing gaze of hers, so that by the time she
finished and was ready to do her demonstration, everyone obediently

Growing brain
The brain grows at a faster rate than any other part of the body. By age 5, child s brain weighs 90% of
average adult brain weight, whereas total body weight is merely 30%.
One reason is due to increase in the number of interconnections among cells. These interconnects
allow for more complex communication between neurons, permit rapid growth of cognitive skills.
Amount of myelin (protective insulation that surrounds parts of the neurons) increases, which speeds
the transmission of electrical impulses along brain cells but also adds weight to the brain.

Should People Have The Right To Call Rescue Services To...
Do you think climbers have the right to call rescue services to come save them? I think they do
because they are climbing the mountains for the adventure and it s their choice. The three reasons why
people should have rescue services is that everyone has the right to call 911, people has the right to
call for help, and the lives that could be saved by doing so.
Everyone has the right to call 911, why couldn t they call for assistance. Since everyone can call 911
without any reason means you can also call for rescue services to. 911 is meant to be a service for
people who need assistance, so if you could just call 911, you could also call for rescue services as
well. When you are doing a dangerous act people call for help and come to the rescue,

The First Amendment Right To Freedom Of Social Media
Social media. People s daily lives revolve around social media sites such as Twitter, Instagram, and

The Controversy Between Pro-Life And Pro Life
The issue of Abortions has been a controversy for years now. There are two main groups for this
problem, Pro Life, and Pro Choice. Pro Life supports the human rights of life should be embraced, by
religion and ethics. Pro choice is when someone wants to make this choice without no remorse of
human life, but because someone wants no part of it raising one. First up for discussion is the root of a
problem is a feminist. A feminist is the Pro choice in abortions, meaning that one believes that is the
woman s choice and right to have. Also, a feminist is someone who believes that a woman should not
mess up her body and should be worrying about her health. Pro choice believes that a fetus does not
have any right to life until twenty four weeks (Gupta, 2014). For example, someone that the writer
know has had four abortions and told her that she was not able to have another child because of having
so many procedures done. Next up for discussion the pro life. The pro life comes from those with
religion; these individuals believe that aborting something or someone is a sin. The writer thought and
understood as well, that this is an endangerment not just for the health of someone doing so, but
anyone who wants a child later on in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

may think. The approach will also be better by talking to these women and young adults before even

Social Learning Theory
For this assignment, I will be studying social learning theory. Social learning theory was first proposed
by Albert Bandura. It is a theory that emphasizes the importance of observing and modeling the
behaviors, attitudes, and emotional reactions of others, ( Social Learning Theory, n.d.). There are three
main hypotheses of social learning theory. First, the theory assumes that people can learn by observing
others (Cherry, n.d.). Second, social learning theory builds on behaviorism by suggesting that intrinsic
rewards can help a person learn or modify behavior. However, observation alone does not lead to a
change in behavior. There are four main steps involved in whether the individual can learn based on
observation. Those four steps include attention, retention, reproduction, and motivation (Cherry, n.d.).
Social learning theory implies that cognitive processes (thought patterns) and environmental cues (the
behavior of others that may be modeled) are important for learning.
The assigned readings show that Bandura s original social learning theory was expanded on by other
researchers like Akers. Akers suggested that the frequency, duration, intensity, and priority of the
different associations individuals have with others also has a strong bearing on whether the individual
learns to change his or her behavior (Cochran, 2011, p. 795). In other words, a child is more
influenced by his or her parents because that child sees the parent often if not always (frequency and

Human Cloning
Ethical Concerns on Human Cloning Human cloning, one of the most fascinating chapters in scientific
history. Cloning goes back to the first mammal that was successfully cloned, Dolly the sheep. Dolly
was duplicated on July 5, 1996 and since then the world has had many scientific advancements. Abby
Norman, author of How Close Are We to Successfully Cloning our First Human said that other types
of mammals such as goats, rats, pigs, mice, and rabbits have been cloned successfully but cloning
other mammals and primates may not be so easy. Scientists are not yet able to successfully clone a
human, but believe they will be able to do so by the 2020s. (Norman) Along with such a controversial
topic there comes many who would agree that copying a human would be beneficial while on the
opposing side some would argue that replicating someone s genes is ethically wrong. Cloning is a very
important topic and according to the President s Council on Bioethics, The prospect of cloning to
produce children, which would be a radically new form of procreation, raises deep concerns about
identity and individuality, the meaning of having children, the difference between procreation and
manufacture, and the relationship between the generations ( Human Cloning and Human Dignity: An
Ethical Inquiry , 2017). Although useful for studying genetic diseases, human cloning produces issues
as to whether it should be allowed or not because some believe the copy will have the same

Sexism Is A Social Disease
Sexism is a social disease. This quote was made by someone anonymous, but it is shockingly true.
Sexism is a large issue in our society. Women are oppressed by so many, and ridiculed for choices that
they make. They are shot down for anything they do, and we must change this. Through public
speaking, rallies, and social media, we can help to combat sexism.
The best way to start making a difference against such small mindedness in real life is to make people
aware of real life examples of sexist and unacceptable behavior, as opposed to paying undeserved
attention to distracting symbols that, in the end, are nothing more than symbols, and don t personally
or directly affect anyone in nearly the same way as real actions. (How to Really Make a Stand... 1)

principals that have been assimilated in the alarm management project have been part of the
curriculum at WU MSN program course work. Strategies utilizing lean principals, critical thinking,
data analysis, PDCA cycles are a few of the means used to advance this project. Fundamental to the
role as a patient safety leader is the use of advanced safety, quality, and nursing theory that backs
nursing practice regarding prevention of patient harm. Patient safety findings were brought to the
attention of the clinical alarm teams and the applications of the quality and safety principles were part
of the litmus test for any actions steps.
Essential IV
Consequently, building onto the quality and safety principles, is the use of EBP, strongly present in the
platform for every WU nursing course. The WU program focuses on use of evidence in the literature
and the assessment of the evidence. These principles are demonstrated throughout the project with
prominent use of AACN (2013) evidence based practical guidance kit. Consumption of science based
information to impart practices for alarm management was apparent in teams participation in the
literature reviews and the webinars attended. Discussions and making project decisions were based on
the strength of evidence and was a direct result of the course work from the MSN and DNP prepared

time. Finally, the Mack Truck Theory and putting all the eggs in one basket are words of warning and
wisdom to be must be heeded. More than one manager should be given the RVCS administrative
passwords so that in the event of an emergency, the checked out state of an artifact or document can
easily be reversed and undone. Then the group member who originally owned the lock can be notified
of the emergency reversal of his or her checkout. With this software embellishment, suggestion and
best practice, the issue no longer impedes further progress from being made. The worst case scenario
is that task completion may be delayed, but less significantly. As group members now know what
changes are being made and how long it will take to make them, more informed decisions can be
made in a shorter time. Finally, these proposed changes and best practices regarding the RVCS

task of accurately evaluating and accessing one s productivity and proficiency using the RVCS a bit
cumbersome, an administrative feature can be added to the RVCS to address the issue. A report or

Sea Stars
I understand why you may think sea stars are not important, however they are a keystone species and
essential in their environment. If you are not sure what a keystone species is, it is a species that has a
key role in sustaining the life of other organisms in an economic system (Ferrer, 2015). Many species
of the rocky intertidal communities depend upon the sea star. Sea stars feed on sea urchins, which
control the population. Without sea stars all other organisms would vanish except for mussels (Phelan,
2010). A sea stars role as a keystone species is maintaining an ecosystem by eating species that
quickly reproduce such as urchins and mussels. The urchin population would multiply in large
amounts hurting the kelp forests that they themselves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You see Aunt Gertrude, the complete fallout of sea stars will have a domino effect on other organisms
in the ocean eventually cutting into the food chain which would be a disaster once reaching us
humans. Sea stars are not the only keystone species; it can be any species that sustains the life of other
organisms in an environment. It is crucial to make sure these species are surviving and thriving. The
loss of such an important character affects all the organisms in that environment. If we begin to loose
biodiversity our planet will slowly deteriorate. More species means more growth and life on Earth. It
also enables us with resources to recover more efficiently from natural disasters (Why is Biodiversity
Important?). Each species relies on the next as a source of survival. The removal of a keystone species
may eventually cause extinction of many other species, which would eventually result in the
deterioration of our planet. Biodiversity is important to our planet for the purpose of sustaining all life

Solving proportions
Solving Proportions MATT222 Intermediate Algebra A comparison of two numbers is referred to as a
ratio, similar to fractions that can be reduced to lowest terms and then converted into a ratio of
integers. Ratios allow one to compare sizes of two quantities and unit measurements. Any statement
expressing the equality of two ratios is known as a proportion, which is used in numerous formulas in
today s real world settings and applications. Using proportions is an effective way to find solutions by
using the extreme means property or cross multiplying. Extreme means property is simply the end
result of the product of the extremes equaling the products of the means. Cross multiplying is a short

x 3 4 (x 3) Cancel out common factors which eliminates denominator on left. y 1 + 1 = 3x 3 +1 To
isolate y, 1 is added to both sides. Cancel common factors. y = 3 x 1 4 Equation complete and
simplified. For this equation, I could have multiplied the LCD to both sides, but I found the extreme
means property was an efficient shortcut. Cross multiplying allowed me to eliminate the fractions and
have the same ending result. We can now consider this an extraneous solution because the number
showing as the solution but causes zero (0) in the denominator. As rational expressions can be tricky
when there is a variable involved in the denominator so caution must be adhered. The use of
proportions is everyday life and real world settings and applications are used without one even
realizing it. While proportions can determine a solution whether it be driving distance, estimated
population count, unit measuring, gas mileage, or to estimate an average time for a job to be
completed, it is a necessary tool that is used in many ways. The ratios that build the proportion can be
easily solved by cross multiplying the extremes and means in a fast and effective way. The wildlife
can be assured that their tags will be calculated with an accurate solution for any conservationist
inquiring about a certain species. So the next time you find

The cognitive behavioral therapy helps them to rationally think about situations when in panic mode
and to effectively remain calm through their panic. In exposure therapy they are exposed to panic in a
controlled environment where the patients can learn safe and healthy ways of coping. Medication
therapy is important. Antidepressants are giving for long term therapy and take a few weeks to start
working, so that is when the benzodiazepines come in. They act quickly and are given to give rapid
relief to symptoms during a panic

Taoism And Confucianism
When the government structure in China fell apart creating chaos emerged two major religions,
Taoism and Confucianism. These two roles played a big part during this time to get things back in
order. The difference between both religions is how they believed the structure should be. Taoism was
not into much of the government. They believe the least the government the better. Lao tzu who is the
founder of Taoism is known for saying Govern a great nation as you would cook a small fish do not
overdo it (p. 180). By doing so, they will live a simple quiet life. In Confucianism, their belief is much
different. The Confucians believe in a big government with an order. Confucius, the founder of
Confucianism, believed if society lived by Li , ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As an infant, his parents sent him into the sea for safety. He was rescued by the daughter of the
pharaoh of Egypt (p. 245). The difference with Moses was raised in a royal family not born into one.
This stood out to me for the fact that both came from different classes of a family with a purpose in
life. It shows you do not have to be wealthy to have a purpose in life.
Another thing both Moses and Zoroaster had in common was they were both called by God at an older
age to find out their purpose in life. At a crucial time in Zoroaster s life, he had a vision of Vohu Mana
an archangel who appeared in the size of a man. He was told there is only one true God, Ahura Mazda
and he would become a prophet. This archangel continued to appear to Zoroaster several more times
as he continued to preach the revelation of Ahura Mazda (p. 227). Like Zoroaster, Moses was in a
crucial part in his life after being exiled to the Sinai Desert for killing an Egyptian in self defense
when the God of Abraham appeared to him. The difference is God revealed himself to Moses speaking
through a burning bush. God commanded Moses to return to Egypt and free the Israelites from
slavery. God continued guiding Moses to freedom. This stood out to me because I am familiar with
this story and learned more about it.
Finally, there are the beliefs of the souls after death. Both Zoroastrianism and Judaism believe the
souls go to a place after they leave the body.

Odysseus In Homer s The Odyssey
The Odyssey, by Homer, is a journey of survival. Odysseus faces many difficult challenges during his
expedition to get home. He is tested frequently when he encounters the presence of Gods, Monsters,
and Mortals. It s these interactions with the Gods, Monsters, and Mortals that examine Odysseus true
survival skills. He is confronted and put to the test in varying ways with each group and must learn to
outlive his enemies. Odysseus is a survivor because he overcomes the obstacles of greed, power, and
temptation with willpower, intelligence and luck. These are the qualities of a hero.

Odysseus warns the suitors of the danger of eating Helios s cattle. Their greed takes over and they
disregard Odysseus warnings and decide to eat the cattle. Unfortunately, because of their selfish
behavior there wrongdoings lead them to death. Helios exclaims, Father Zeus! the rest of you blissful
gods who never die punish them all, that crew of Laertes son Odysseus what an outrage! They, they
killed my cattle, the great joy of my heart (Homer 12. 405 408) Another symbol of the mortals is
loyalty. Penelope the wife of Odysseus is extremely patient and loyal. She waits for him after twenty
years on his journey. She never gives up on him. She is also faithful to her husband even as she is
tempted by suitors who invade her house. She stays true to Odysseus: So I pay no heed to strangers,
suppliants at my door not even heralds out on their public errands here I yearn for Odysseus, always,
my heart pines away (Homer 19. 149 151) Odysseus obstacle with Penelope is getting home safely.
The motivating factor for this journey is to see his wife, Penelope. His survival is tested over and over
but he understands his love is waiting for him. Odysseus says, no man on the face of the earth could
find fault with you. Your fame, believe me, has reached the vaulting skies. (Homer 19. 117 118) The

This report form 1929, focused on the issue of overcrowding in the federal prison system and how
federal judges in Minnesota indicated a need of more federal prison farms in the northern part of the
state. Barstow reasoned that a prison farm could bring income and jobs to the town to make up for the
economic fall of the quarry and railroad. The town had a piece of land that had not been cleared across
the Kettle Rover to the east of the Sandstone that Barstow thought would be perfect. Barstow recruited
the help of Senator Adolph Larson, Dr. Homer p. Dredge, and businessman John F. Hawley. These
four men, later known as the prison farm four, called a town meeting and formed a committee with a
goal of obtaining a federal farm for Sandstone. The U.S. department of Justice had already announced
intent to build a new prison farm in Minnesota, but Sandstone was not the only town bidding for a
new institution. Sandstone, however, had the unique advantage of being positioned half way in the
middle of the Twin Cities and Duluth, these cities delivered most of the Minnesota s prison
population. That June, the superintendent of prisons visited the prosed site and recommended
Sandstone as the location for the new prison far. On November 10, 1931, Sandstone received the news
that their bid of $5 per acre, for 2, 885 acres. (Troolin, Pine County History: The Federal Correctional

We Are A Camera, By Nick Paumgarten
Although a memory may deteriorate over the span of years or even decades, a photograph will last a
lifetime. Images are more than an object to have for safe keeping. In his article, We Are A Camera,
Nick Paumgarten discusses the uprising of the popular recording device known as the GoPro. This
device is used to record events and experiences from different perspectives, whether that is from
underwater or zip lining through a forest in a first person view. Moreover, videos and photography
allow people to capture images to reminisce about past experiences, to share these moments with
others, and even remember those whom you have lost. There are countless debates about how
distracting cell phones and other electronic devices can be however, they can still be used in positive
ways, such as capturing images. Images are a way of recalling events or memories. Certainly, with
these images a person would depict a picture far more vividly than what they could have conjured up
by simply trying to remember the moment. After going through a great experience, people tend to
want to reflect and rejoice at what they had done or gone through. The most memorable moment of
my past would have to be my seventh birthday party. It was a small surprise in the middle of a park in
Fort Lauderdale on a scorching hot day. I recall playing soccer on the grassy plains, receiving gifts and
the abundance of laughter in the air. The only problem is, I only remember vague images in my mind
that I pieced

Graffiti Public Good
In the short essay Graffiti is a Public Good, Even As it Challenges the Law Lu Olivero brings up the
topic of graffiti and it s righteousness as an artform. Olivero starts off the essay with an explanation
that graffiti is a subgenre of vandalism, which is a form of self expression and is, therefore, art.
However, graffiti embodies a different sense of aestheticism than of the vandalism and often carry a
critical message behind it ultimately holding value as an artwork. Throughout the essay, Olivero
discusses the depreciation graffiti art experience in the art world as well as in the socio political
environment. Since graffiti continues to stay on the borderline of vandalism a crime and an art form,
he wishes to change the perception of graffiti ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author mentions Banksy as a key example of political graffiti art. The case in Brazil is mentioned
where they legalize the acts of graffiti as long as it is off the historical buildings as an example of
positive changes that happened. Though the author advocates for a change in the attitude of graffiti art,
he acknowledges the necessary legal boundaries.
Graffiti art is difficult for me. Although I appreciate the products, and it s ability to bring up difficult
conversations in areas where conversations are not normally initiated (ruins, suburbs, low income
areas), the thought that it is illegal still lingers in the back of my head. I should not reject the illegal
aspect of this art since anarchism is deeply embodied in the spirit of graffiti art but it is difficult to do
so. The law exists to protect people and their private properties, and an individual s private asset
should not be violated for public goods. If an individual does not want to be involved in a dialogue the
graffiti art provides, the artist should not violate their space and force their artwork on private
properties. Protecting graffiti from the law is problematic as it deals with the issue of censorship. We
may wish to be exposed to all kinds of information, and

Position And Beliefs Of Epicurus s Letter To Menoeceus
In this essay, I will dissect the positions and beliefs of Epicurus from a letter he wrote to Menoeceus,
and argue why I believe they are correct or incorrect. I will also elaborate on the ultimate goal for
Epicurus and differentiate between the types of pleasures and why it is important to focus on particular
types. Lastly I will analyze the principal things that give people anxiety, the method Epicurus
recommend for applying his philosophy, and why I agree or disagree with particular positions
Epicurus has.
Epicurus uses several different instances about what he believes constitutes the good life and I found
many of them to be right on target with my beliefs. One of the quotes that stuck with me and got me
thinking was the one about studying the means to secure happiness. He believes that after happiness is

This becomes controversial because everyone doesn t want the same thing in life. Some would argue
that everybody has different goals and desires, so to claim that after someone has secured happiness
that they have everything, is debatable. I agree with Epicurus on this topic because although everyone
might have different goals in life, when they complete those goals, happiness is what they will secure.
For example, say one person has a goal to get a great job and another person has a goal to get a great
wife. Different goals on the outside, but if one looks deeper, it can be seen that the great job will lead
to money and everything that person desires will become attainable, which will secure their happiness.
The great wife could lead to

  • 2. The Gods In Geoffrey Philp s The Cattle Of The Sun God As the suitors, Odysseus and most of the people in the Greek world could tell you it is a lot better to have the gods on your side than as your enemy. Odysseus journey home in the Odyssey was a great example of how the gods can affect your life. One the reasons his journey took so long was because of the gods intervening. Although without the help of a few gods, he would not have gotten home at all. In the image, it shows a ship far away from home. It also shows waves that signify Poseidon not letting Odysseus go home. The image is very good at showing the hopelessness the ship in. Also, Geoffrey Philp, in his poem The Cattle of the Sun God shows a similar point of the power and what can happen if the gods are betrayed. In Philip s writing, it shows only how awful the gods can be. It is about Odysseus s crew making a dumb decision and the gods acting as their own system of Karma. In the poem, Philip uses the consequences of the mortals mistake to demonstrate the power of the gods. The mortals in Greek world have learned about how awful it is to have a god as your enemy. In the Odyssey the main character, Odysseus makes a brutal mistake that got a god to be his enemy. In book 9 after, Odysseus blinds Poseidon s son Polyphemus and tricks him to think his name is nobody. But after he escapes, he shows hubris and starts to taunt, he mockingly gloats, Cyclops if any man on earth ask you who blinded you, shamed you so say Odysseus raider of cities, he gouged your eye, ... • 3. Keny Diverse And Multicultural Country Kenya is a diverse and multicultural country with over fifty different tribes each with their own distinct language. Kenya consists of three main ethnic groups; the Bantus, Nilotes and Cushites. These three groups all have different religious and cultural practices ( Cultures of The World, Kenya ). Although diverse, Kenya is mainly constituted of Bantus with the majority of them coming from the Kikuyu tribe. Other major groups include the Luo, Maasai and Kalenjin. Kenya is very lush and is mainly cool which attracted the interest of European explorers. Countries such as Britain steadily increased their influence in the area by introducing missionaries and sending explorers throughout the nation. By the late 19th century, Britain controlled Kenya and declared it a British colony ( Countries and Their Cultures ). The British attracted people from Europe by creating more economic and political opportunities for Europeans to move to Kenya. They would allocate large pieces of land to British citizens, which would displace the natives, or offer them political positions in the government. The British implemented segregation which led them to forcing Kenyans to work as squatters on the land of the British but in truth, they weren t any different from slaves. Kenyans tried resisting British policies by protesting but this only angered the British. The British colonists reacted by killing twenty five people which came to be known as the Nairobi Massacre ( Countries and Their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Taking a Look at Home Schooling Home schooling is a type of education that takes place in the home; it can be defined as parents or a small group of students from a community studying an academic curriculum at home or any confined place either for personal reasons or any other purpose. It has been a controversial choice for education and has been opposed by many in the past since the early twentieth century as it was illegal in most states. Home schooling topic which was not even considered earlier is now being regarded salient as we can observe the drastic change from 19th century to now, Ray s studies shows that, A dramatic change began around the late 1970s, one that resulted in slightly more than 2 million home schooled students in grades K to 12 in the United States during the spring of 2010 (324) also, Between 1999 and 2007, homes schoolers in the United States increased by an estimated 74 percent twelve times the rate of public school growth and now likely number more than two million altogether (Kunzman 76) but Johnson has given the statistics in another perspective as Early home schoolers joined together to win favourable legislative and judicial outcomes that resulted in the legalization of home schooling in all 50 states by the early 1990s (298). Compared to any other countries More African Americans, Native Americans, Muslims, wealthy urbanites, actors, musicians, and athletes have joined the ranks of the home schooling (Johnson 304). • 5. The Social Action Theory and Symbolic Interactionism Essay The Social Action Theory and Symbolic Interactionism Max Weber believed that individuals were the key to society. He developed social action theory, the purpose of which was to find out why individuals function in certain ways. He thought that every social action performed by an individual had a meaning attached to it. Social actions are the result of conscious thought processes that take into consideration the reactions of other individuals. Weber identified four types of social action which include, reason (an instrumentally rational or calculated action), value or rational action (determined by belief), emotion or effectual action (dependent upon the feelings of the individual), and traditional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These properties could be exchanged for money in the economic market he was of the opinion that this position in the economic market place determined class position so that in theory there would be as many class positions as economic positions. Therefore the class structure of society is essentially an occupation structure. Social action theory recognises other divisions apart from simply class and also recognises that consumption of goods (by which status groups are stratified) is just as important as the production (by which class is stratified). It also draws attention to the importance of the individual and their conscious actions. It does not however place enough emphasis on class divisions, as it tends to concentrate more on status. Symbolic interactionists reject structure and believe that to study society, the only way to do so is to concentrate on the individual. Both theories believe in understanding the individual through the use of empathy. George Herbert Mead was mainly concerned with the importance of language. Language distinguishes humans from animals and allows us to be aware of our individuality. The use of symbols is a key element of language. They are used to give meanings to particular events or objects and are learned by socialisation. Humans make them to assist them to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Treatment Of Prostate Cancer Prostate cancer is the one of the most lethal disease in the United Sates. The pattern of disease recurrence being the major cause of morbidity and mortality. In spite of recent advances in our understanding of the molecular mechanisms responsible for the development of prostate cancer, the survival rate of men with this disease has remained relatively unchanged in over the decades. Since the Nobel prize winning discovery by Dr. Huggins and Dr. Hodges (Huggins C., 1941) androgen deprivation therapy is being used by over a half of a century as a primary treatment for advanced prostate cancer. Even though androgen deprivation therapy remains a palliative treatment which lasts around 2 3 years on average, and turn to hormone refractory (androgen independent) prostate cancer with castrate level of testosterone. However, studies from the Sawyers group and others found that castration resistant prostate cancers (CRPCs) remains on androgen receptor (AR) signaling which is reactivated despite low serum androgen levels and targeting the androgen receptor (AR) signaling pathway remains a keystone of treatment. A targeted gene therapy approach is developed to activate the immune system to recognize prostate cancer cells$$. It is designed new treatment, new drugs that specifically target specific biological pathways deregulated in the cancer cells. • 7. My Guided Walk Through Experience As I walked toward the entrance I took a deep breath and exhaled. Several emotions rushed through my veins. I was nervous, anxious and curious to discover what lied behind the doors of the Model Laboratory School. I had a positive attitude and a clear and open mind of what my observation hours would teach me within the following months. I knew from previous experiences that each teacher had their own philosophies, expectations, and rules they held for their students. I also knew that I, the observer, would be gaining just as much knowledge as the students I came in contact with. Each grade level has its own characteristic and unique qualities and I understand that the main objective of my guided walk through experience was to explore my options and discover which grade level was appropriate for me. The first class I observed during my guided walk through hours was Mrs. Corns kindergarten class located in the lower elementary wing. At first glance I notice that the room was vibrant and colorful. There were a few tables serrated around the room, along with an area rug and a rocking chair located in the front of the class. An assistant teacher gathered all students to the rug and began reading a story about the Cincinnati museum. During this time most students were engaged and participating in questions. When a student got a question correct the teacher would show positive feedback by giving them completes. I observed communication between peers, as they discussed their ... • 8. The Positive Relationship Between Inflation And Inflation Some variables in Economics are very closely related to each other. In many cases, the combination of these variables can have an unexpected effect on the economy. One of these examples can be observed when we compare inflation and unemployment rate. To establish this comparison in a short run period of time, it will be beneficial to use the Phillip Curve. This curve can be used as a tool to represent the positive relationship between inflation and unemployment in the short run. In order to comprehend the positive relationship between inflation and unemployment first, we must know what inflation is, how we define unemployment, and how we can use the Phillip Curve to make a functional comparison of these two variables. Moreover, it will be very beneficial to analyze how expansionary fiscal policies affect the relationship between unemployment and inflation. If we understand the meaning of each of these variables in the economy, it will be easier to comprehend the logic of a short run trade off between unemployment and inflation. Inflation can be described as the sustained increase in the level price of goods and services over a period of time. Inflation can affect the economy in positive and negative ways. One of the negative ways in which inflation affects the economy is that it increases the opportunity cost of holding money, in other words, it decreases the real value of money. Inflation is said to occur when there is an excessive increase in the money supply. Among ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Statistical Control Charts Essay Introduction and History of Statistical Process Control Statistical Process Control (SPC) is a method of controlling the quality of a manufacturing process and is most often affiliated with control charts. However, SPC in reality is a group of tools and includes additional statistical and evaluation/measurement methods. Smith, Megahed, Jones‐Farmer and Clark defined seven basic tools of SPC including; histograms, check sheets, Pareto charts, cause and effect diagrams, defect concentration diagrams, scatter diagrams and of course the aforementioned control charts (2014). These tools represent the scope and overall purpose/pursuit of SPC which is; any statistical method designed to detect changes in a process over time (Woodall Montgomery, 1999, p. 377). Since control charts is often the most discussed of these seven tools; it is important to note there are many different types of control charts. The main control charts include; process charts which are R charts and s charts, non conforming item charts also known as p charts and np charts and finally average numbers of non conformity charts or c charts and u charts (Woodall Montgomery, 1999). Statistical Process Control experienced its most significant growth and expansion during the quality revolution in the 1980 s (Woodall Montgomery, 1999). It was during this time period that the focal point of quality changed from being merely acceptance or customer defined quality criteria to actual process control (Woodall ... I think they do because they are climbing the mountains for the adventure and it s their choice. The three reasons why people should have rescue services is that everyone has the right to call 911, people has the right to call for help, and the lives that could be saved by doing so. Everyone has the right to call 911, why couldn t they call for assistance. Since everyone can call 911 without any reason means you can also call for rescue services to. 911 is meant to be a service for people who need assistance, so if you could just call 911, you could also call for rescue services as well. Pro Life supports the human rights of life should be embraced, by religion and ethics. Pro choice is when someone wants to make this choice without no remorse of human life, but because someone wants no part of it raising one. First up for discussion is the root of a problem is a feminist. A feminist is the Pro choice in abortions, meaning that one believes that is the woman s choice and right to have. Also, a feminist is someone who believes that a woman should not mess up her body and should be worrying about her health. Pro choice believes that a fetus does not have any right to life until twenty four weeks (Gupta, 2014). For example, someone that the writer know has had four abortions and told her that she was not able to have another child because of having so many procedures done. Next up for discussion the pro life. The pro life comes from those with religion; these individuals believe that aborting something or someone is a sin. • 16. Social Learning Theory For this assignment, I will be studying social learning theory. Social learning theory was first proposed by Albert Bandura. It is a theory that emphasizes the importance of observing and modeling the behaviors, attitudes, and emotional reactions of others, ( Social Learning Theory, n.d.). There are three main hypotheses of social learning theory. First, the theory assumes that people can learn by observing others (Cherry, n.d.). Second, social learning theory builds on behaviorism by suggesting that intrinsic rewards can help a person learn or modify behavior. However, observation alone does not lead to a change in behavior. There are four main steps involved in whether the individual can learn based on observation. Those four steps include attention, retention, reproduction, and motivation (Cherry, n.d.). Social learning theory implies that cognitive processes (thought patterns) and environmental cues (the behavior of others that may be modeled) are important for learning. The assigned readings show that Bandura s original social learning theory was expanded on by other researchers like Akers. Akers suggested that the frequency, duration, intensity, and priority of the different associations individuals have with others also has a strong bearing on whether the individual learns to change his or her behavior (Cochran, 2011, p. 795). Cloning goes back to the first mammal that was successfully cloned, Dolly the sheep. Dolly was duplicated on July 5, 1996 and since then the world has had many scientific advancements. Abby Norman, author of How Close Are We to Successfully Cloning our First Human said that other types of mammals such as goats, rats, pigs, mice, and rabbits have been cloned successfully but cloning other mammals and primates may not be so easy. Scientists are not yet able to successfully clone a human, but believe they will be able to do so by the 2020s. (Norman) Along with such a controversial topic there comes many who would agree that copying a human would be beneficial while on the opposing side some would argue that replicating someone s genes is ethically wrong. Cloning is a very important topic and according to the President s Council on Bioethics, The prospect of cloning to produce children, which would be a radically new form of procreation, raises deep concerns about identity and individuality, the meaning of having children, the difference between procreation and manufacture, and the relationship between the generations ( Human Cloning and Human Dignity: An Ethical Inquiry , 2017). Women are oppressed by so many, and ridiculed for choices that they make. They are shot down for anything they do, and we must change this. Through public speaking, rallies, and social media, we can help to combat sexism. The best way to start making a difference against such small mindedness in real life is to make people aware of real life examples of sexist and unacceptable behavior, as opposed to paying undeserved attention to distracting symbols that, in the end, are nothing more than symbols, and don t personally or directly affect anyone in nearly the same way as real actions.
