Effects Of Climate Variables On Crop Productivity Essay
Although, a number of recent studies have carried out the effects of climate variables on crop
productivity using simulation crop models such as CERES maize, CERES rice or EPIC models
(Lansigan et al. 2000; Rosenzweig et al., 2002; Tan and Shibasaki, 2003; Popova and Kercheva 2005;
Tao et al., 2008; Yin et al. 2015,). Most of these studies estimate adversely harmful effects of climate
change on agriculture in both developed and developing countries using crop models (process based
or statistical) with global climate model (GCM) outputs.
A significant number of studies have been undertaken in recent decades in Asian regions using
ORYZA2000 crop model in the Philippines (Bouman and van Laar, 2006), India (Yadav et al. 2011;
Sumathi et al. 2015), Indonesia (Boling et al, 2007), China (Bouman et al, 2007; Feng et al, 2007; Sen
et al. 2011) and Iran (Amiri, 2008; Amiri and Rezaei, 2009).
In the mid 1990s, International Rice Research Institute and the Wageningen University and Research
Centre developed the ORYZA model series to simulate growth and development of tropical lowland
rice. The first model was ORYZA1 for potential production (Kropff et al, 1994), followed by
ORYZA_W for water limited production, and by ORYZA N and ORYZA1N (Mohandass et al. 1995)
for nitrogen limited production. Kropff et al (1994) reported some evaluation of ORYZA1, which
focused on the comparison between observed and simulated yields and end of season biomass values,
but included little validation of

The Purpose Of Rehabilitation Psychology
Rehabilitation Psychology
Rehabilitation psychology is a major area within psychology and is one of the fastest growing fields in
applied psychology. It focuses on the study and application of psychological knowledge and skills on
behalf of individuals with disabilities and chronic health conditions. The purpose of rehabilitation
psychologists is to maximize outcomes in terms of health and welfare, independence, daily
functioning and social participation while also minimizing secondary health problems. In order to
carry out broad range of activities, rehabilitation psychologists are remarkably trained and specialized
for clinical assistance and practice, counseling, program development, research, teaching and
education, training, administration, development of policy and legal activities related to persons with

Kevlar Essay
After watching the videos and understanding what is being developed in the industry of material
engineering, the material that I personally found most interesting was kevlar. It seemed like such a
lightweight material yet it is very strong and it has a lot of different applications. Poly paraphenylene
terephthalamide known as Kevlar, was invented by the chemist Stephanie Kwolek back in 1971. The
material is produced by a chemical reaction with solvent and solutes. The production of this material
is expensive as it is not easy to do. However it is not easy to produce Kevlar as this source states
However, the fabric is expensive, difficult to manufacture because of its tight weave construction
(Hosur). The following image shows the chemical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The polymer owes its high strength to the many inter chain bonds. These inter molecular hydrogen
bonds form between the carbonyl groups and NH centers. Additional strength is derived from aromatic
stacking interactions between adjacent strands. These interactions have a greater influence on Kevlar
than the van der Waals interactions and chain length that typically influence the properties of other
synthetic polymers and fibers (Wikipedia). Therefore its main strength comes from the intermolecular
bonds and stacking of the material. Even though Kevlar is a very strong material, it is yet very light
considering the high strain it can handle. As this source claims Their high strength to weight ratio and
ability to resist high speed impacts enable them to be more efficient than metals (Zhu). By this
measure it is also known that Kevlar is almost five more times stronger than steel. This image shows
the tensile strength of Kevlar in comparison to other materials. As seen, there is drastic difference and
it has a much larger tensile strength. Kevlar has a lot of different applications, however it is most
known for its application in the protection field. It is usually used for armors, objects such as helmets
and ballistic

Techniques In Middle Passage
Reading Portfolio
Middle Passage is a novel filled with different techniques such as allusions, foreshadowing, humor,
character transitions, and many other techniques. Charles Johnson, the author of this amazing novel
wanted the readers to acknowledge the past and present events. He connects the past and the present
with many different examples. One example is when the police hit Santos for no reason. This
comparison is made very clear and simple enough for the readers to understand that police brutality
continues to this day. Charles Johnson uses such vibrant words to make the reader feel, smell, hear
everything that was going on in the novel. It s as if this book comes to life throughout his descriptions,

The Allmuseri believe that what is inside the crate that is being carried in The Republic is the driving
force of the universe. However, Falcon does not care about that, Falcon thrives to become famous, and
to have wealth. He does not care about the people or anything; his desire is to leave a footprint, a mark
in history.
In class we discussed that Falcon treated everyone horrible, and the slaves in the ship took every
breath almost as it would be their last breath.
This is what slavery was all about throughout history not mattering where we were to be found.
Although there really is a difference. Enslaved on a slave ship is much more extreme. The horrible
sleeping conditions, the claustrophobic space, beatings of the slaves for no reason, mal nutrition.
These are the devastating conditions that slaves on a slave ship endured each day of the passage. In
Middle Passage Rutherford Calhoun is a character of deceit, intellect and a manipulator. However,
there is a transition that Rutherford undergoes in the novel. A freed slave Rutherford in 1830
Rutherford did not have any wealth, he was in debt and also sacred for his life. Isadora is Rutherford s

differences between the Isadora and Calhoun. It is interesting that Rutherford fled from the help that
Isadora tried to provide him. The deal was that Rutherford Calhoun would marry Isadora

College Education Gap Analysis
Since the beginning of American history, there has always been a gap in achievement between the
Black and minority community versus their counterparts, the Whites. The difference between the two
groups was that of opportunities. Minorities in the United States were initially deprived of all chances
at prosperity, and Whites were born into a societal prosperity; an idea that Beverly Tatum calls White
Privilege. While it is important to acknowledge that the educational gap between African American
and White students has diminished in regards to college enrollment, it is important to evaluate the
differences between what affects certain races in attendance and completion of college. The factors
that will be considered are family dynamics, finances, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Obviously, a low socioeconomic status is more closely tied to that of a minority. In Susan Dynarski s
experiment, the findings indicate that low socioeconomic African American students have less contact
with faculty, study less, are less involved with student organizations, work more, and have lower
grades than do their high SES peers or all African American students. Does a student s socioeconomic
status correlate with the relationships they share with their professors and peers with higher
socioeconomic statuses? Furthermore, 9 years after entering college, low SES students report lower
incomes, lower rates of degree attainment and lower aspirations than their high SES peers, and were
less likely to have attended graduate school. Logistic Regression results indicate that sex, college GPA

who had a low socioeconomic status expressed feelings of disconnect from the students in their
chosen institution, especially if it was a predominately white institution (PWI); they ve felt as though
they could not relate to the people around them. This factor could contribute to a feeling of not
belonging, which proves to be very strong in a student s decision to stay in

Harmful Causes Of Lifestyle Diseases
Lifestyle diseases refer to diseases that are associated to the daily routines of the people. Lifestyle
diseases have been pervaded to the population globally due to poor lifestyle choices. Lifestyle diseases
must be taken seriously because several deaths are caused by lifestyle diseases. Too much smoking,
consumption of alcohol, physical inactivity, inadequate sleep, and unhealthy diet contributed to the
development of lifestyle diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, chronic diseases including obesity,
hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus and various kinds of cancers. It was stated that many patients
lack preparations to start to maintain healthy habits despite being encouraged by doctors. (Golubic

The Importance Of Religious Freedom In 1800 And 1900 s...
This ideology is not new to society, but is dated to around 539 B.C. and is firmly rooted in American
humanity ( Freedom of Religion Public Education ). Religious freedom is a universal human right that
protects the choice of religion someone chooses and practices. Without this civil right, people cannot
think, express or act upon with religious liberty and this can result to acts of violence, inequality and
prejudice throughout the state ( Freedom of Religion or Belief. ). A community that consists of an
array of acceptances is going to allow diversity to flourish. James Madison brings an important
transformation of 1800 s and 1900 s America through religious freedom.
To begin, this courageous man advocates for religious liberty through his choices of beliefs. Notably,
he promotes differences in the community as well as writes to defend citizens ethics. Madison has the
ability to manage diverse people occupying different beliefs. For example, he works with a variety of
religious beliefs such as Lutherans, Baptists and Presbyterians ( God In America. ). He supports
human rights because he accepts different religions; he doesn t have any discrimination towards the
different beliefs that exist in society. In addition, the man writes the Memorial and Remonstrance to
defend his choice to support the community for religious freedom ( God In America. ). In this case, he
is one of the Founding Fathers that wrote in the First Amendment, otherwise known as the Bill of
Rights.

that much stronger. For some, it comes easy, their talent or skill is inept or they are a natural at
whatever it is that they are doing. For others, their skill is challenging for them, or they have to work

The Student That I Have Been Working With Over The Past...
The student that I have been working with over the past six weeks is Brad Concordia. Brad attends
Shiloh Hills Elementary School in the rural area of the Wilson School District. Brad is a first grade
student in Mrs. Detwiler s classroom who suffers from brain damage and unfortunately he s dealt with
it since he was born. Brad is an energetic, positive kid who loves to tell stories and talk about
Pokémon. He does not act up in class and he tends to be very polite and well behaved. Whenever the
teacher gives him an activity to do he tries his very best to accomplish it without the help of an aid,
but most times he is left with no choice due to his condition.
A couple of Brad s strengths include being able to count dots 1 34 without any issues, and he is able to
comprehend the number of dots he counted and write it down for the answer. For basic numbers such
as 1 10, he is able to do it fully on his on and get all of the digits correct. For numbers greater than 10,
he is dependent on the help of one of the other teachers. His main weakness in math is his lack of
ability to do problems on his own. He relies on counting dots to add up the numbers and my goal for
him is for him to be able to see a number and know how much it is worth rather than using dots to
count. After talking with Mrs. Detwiler, we discussed a plan to help Brad comprehend single digits
numbers using his number line. Brad has been very positive toward this intervention and he is eager to

The Celts And The Celtic Shorthorn
The Celts dressed in a very interesting way. Trousers and tunics were worn by the men, while dresses,
or skirts and tunics, were worn by the women. Man or woman, all Celts preferred to wear clothing of
color. When the men went to battle, they went without shirts or without clothing, entirely. The
warriors would have, then, painted their bodies with intentions that the dye would keep them from
being injured. The Celtics would also wear sandals containing leather from their own breed of cattle,
the Celtic Shorthorn. Cattle was a necessity to the Celts for many different reasons. With regards to
cattle, much of the Celts food relied on the animals and crops. Lamb, beef, fish, cheese, butter, milk,
mead, breads and vegetables are some of the foods that would be eaten. Farming was mostly done by
the peasants as they were in charge of the heavy work on the land. In order to protect their land, a

Spirituality and religion were very influential aspects of their lives. The Celts believed in the
otherworld and the idea of sacrifices. These two ideas went hand in hand as sacrifices were always an
honor for the victim, as it was their time to enter the otherworld . Religion appeared in daily life for
other reasons as well. For example, the circle in the Celtic Cross is a representation of the halo of
Christ. The circle is also the reason for the way the monastic communities were built. Subsequently,
religion influenced the Celtic festivals that were held. These festivals were a way of honoring the
gods, as well as a place for marriage and establishing their, so called,

McPherson and Hearn on Abraham Lincoln Essay
The presidency of Abraham Lincoln came during a highly radical and chaotic period of American
history. For historians such as James McPherson, they see Lincoln as the greatest leader in American
history. For McPherson, Lincoln succeeded in combining military pragmatism with the political
ideologies of the North, as well as Lincoln s own idealism, thus assuring Northern victory. However,
not all historians agree that Lincoln was a masterful tactician. Chester Hearn, believes that although
Abraham Lincoln was one of America s most venerable statesmen, his presidency was marked by
flaws and a general misunderstanding of how war is waged. McPherson s Tried by War and Hearn s
Lincoln, The Cabinet and the Generals, make the argument for each of ... Show more content on

Although Hearn does not entirely refute the commonly view of Lincoln as a brilliant tactician and
morally inspired leader, he also provides many examples of Lincoln s failures. Many of the policies,
which McPherson celebrates, Hearn depicts as misguided and desperate.
Although James McPherson presents Lincoln as having numerous qualities that defined him as a
brilliant leader, he wastes no time in revealing what he believes to be Lincoln s greatest strength. In
his Introduction, McPherson states regarding Lincoln s political leadership: In a civil war whose
origins lay in a political conflict over the future of slavery and a political decision by certain states to
secede, policy could never be separated from national strategy.... And neither policy nor national
strategy could be separated from military strategy (McPherson, p.6). Lincoln could not approach the
war from a purely martial standpoint instead, he needed to focus on the issues that caused it. For the
catalyst of the war was also the tool for its solution; a war started by differing ideologies could only be
resolved through the military application of ideology. This non objective approach to the waging of
the war almost resembles the inspired approach McPherson brings to his examination of Lincoln
himself.
For Hearn, Lincoln s true level of tactical skill is hard to discern due to the legendary status that
history has given him. In response to this confusion, Hearn

Extracting Natural Gas From Shale And Other Rock Formation
Resulting of recent technological innovations improving the ability of extracting natural gas from
shale and other rock formation. The popularity of hydraulic fracturing remains leading in the direction
of new venture opportunities and increasing growth for the natural gas and oil production industry.
With the development, comes risk and scrutiny. According to Robert W. Howarth and Anthony
Ingraffea natural gas extracted from shale comes at too great a cost to the environment, and must be
illegal. Natural gas from shale remains vastly proposed as clean, comparable with oil and coal that can
decrease the outpouring while still satisfying rich fossil fuel over coming decades until a switch to
renewable energy sources exists. However shale gas being clean remains false, and it used as bridge
fuel stays a terrible idea. Shale rock formation can hold large quantities of natural gas, however that
gas remains mostly made up of methane. (Natural Gas:Should fracking stop?) For a long period of
time a majority of this gas was not economically reachable. However over the past decade, two new
technological advancements recently combined allowing extracting of the gas. This process is known
as hydraulic fracturing, in which extremely high pressured water with additional chemicals forced two
to three kilometers in the ground is extracting the gas. The manufacturing sources claim that fracking
has produced over one million natural gas wells since the 1940 s. Only 2% of these wells

A miniature of his mother was reported missing
Letters to the Editor
To Whom it May Concern, I have had the privilege of being a part of the Frankenstein family since I
was very young and would like to share my thoughts on Miss Justine Moritz who is on trial for our
brother William. I have been acquainted with Justine Moritz for a total of seven years. She took care

where she nursed her ailing mother. Justine has always been an affectionate and caring woman.
Although I have heard the evidence against her, I believe that Justine Moritz is innocent. If she had

Pierre Bourdieu And Coleman Essay
Pierre Bourdieu and James Coleman are the two sociologist who studied social capital. It was
Bourdieu who is credited with developing the term in sociology, and Coleman who introduced it for
widespread use. Bourdieu classified his theory into fields of theory, which are capital and how they
relate to class reproduction. For Pierre the relationship between social and economic capital was the
key, while Coleman thought that ties to the community is what made social capital happen. While both
felt that social capital went hand in hand with social structure, they theorized it in different manners.
Bourdieu and Coleman emphasized other forms of social capital as it deals with the intangible aspects
of social capital. Economic capital can be found in peoples bank accounts, whilst human capital
resides in peoples heads. Social capital, however, inheres in the structure of their relationships. Thus to
possess social capital, a person must be related to others and it is those others, not himself, who are the
actual source of advantage (Portes, 1998). In order to understand Bourdieu and Coleman, I will first

these are systems of trust and obligations, networks disseminating information, norms accompanied

establishing it (Marsden, 2005). Bourdieu has a different definition of social capital, the aggregate of

Analysis Of The Book Harrison Bergeron
Can an equal society truly exist? The story, Harrison Bergeron gives one perspective answer to this
question throughout the story. The story portrays one main conflict between Harrison Bergeron, a
genius boy who is very talented, against a government that makes the entire society equal by
handicapping the more gifted, down to the level of the less fortunate or incapable. Harrison constantly
outgrows his tremendous handicaps faster than the government can create them and plans to
overthrow the handicap government and society with his genius. The reader learns that there is a

The wife tries to persuade him and convince him that he should take off his handicaps for a while and
rest. George can still better understand the consequences of those potential actions and thus can still
outsmart his wife by making a different decision. Through this passage, the reader also learns that
even in this handicap society of equality not everyone is truly equal. If everyone was truly equal
George wouldn t have been able to make a more correct reasoning than another person and choose
different actions based on knowledge and reason. This just once again proves that even in a perfect
society not everything is perfect.
At the end of the story and at the climax the reader learns about the character Harrison Bergeron. The
genius boy starts to plot to overthrow the handicapper General and her government. By escaping from
jail Harrison proceeds to a TV studio to proclaim his revolt to the rest of the society. Once ripping off
his handicaps and the handicaps of the rest of the people in the TV studio area, Harrison began to

truly make a wonderful dance and experience what music is supposed to truly be. As the wonderful
music is played and the elaborate dance proceeds, the Handicap General herself storms the studio and

after death. The Egyptians had a belief that the body and soul was a separate form of life.

the body for eternity while the soul would be freed for the afterlife. I read about how they would place

The Dutchman By Leroi Jones
Race and Racism
Race and racism have been around since mankind made its first steps on the planet and it has brought
upon violence, submissiveness, cruelty, and sexism into the world. A great representation of these
themes and issues was brought by LeRoi Jones, who wrote The Dutchman . The play itself is a great
representation of the relationships of races in America during the 60 s and can even been connected to
today s society. The Dutchman mainly focuses on the black white relationship but can also be drawn
to other cultures and races. I, myself, can also relate to what LeRoi Jones wrote in one way or another.

Equality Or Not In Ayn Rand s Anthem
Equality or Not....
What would our society be like if we had rules that forced everyone to be equal? Ayn Rand illustrates
this in Anthem. The rules are there to make everyone equal, but in reality they are making everything
exponentially unequal. The laws are there to keep the people believing they are equal. However, if the
people knew what advantages they could obtain in the new society, would these people decide to stay
in the society where they are told what to do their entire lives, or would they go with Prometheus to
his new modern society. In Prometheus s society I believe he will have rules that any civilized society
needs. Although, he will not have restrictive rules that try to enforce equality.
First, the rules are there to give equality. But, to be equal everyone would have to have the same job. I
can see how this wouldn t work. If everyone had the same job nothing would get accomplished. There
would be no street sweepers, scholars, teachers, or guards. There would be no world council. Suppose
being a farmer was the only job. There would be plenty of food, but nobody to cook it, so there would
have to be cooks, butchers, and even warehouse workers. To have a sufficient ... Show more content

Importance Of Good Manners Essay
Manners, we hear about then every day, at home, at work, from our parents, and peers but do we really
recognize the importance of good manners? Manners are respectful actions that make an ordinary man
a gentleman. Good manners and courtesies are one of the most valuable facets of society. They make a
man a useful member of the world, making one functional in both their professional life and personal
life by helping us to win the favor and confidence of others. In order to have progress in life, good
manners are essential. On the other hand, an ill mannered man is generally shunned by everyone and
has no chance of success in any walk of life he pursues. In today s society, proper etiquette and good
manners are almost nonexistent in some parts of the country and we have to ask ourselves why this is.
Why do people lack the basic etiquette that is essential to living a professional and respectful life? The
answer is that people are uneducated on these topics. The fact is most parents don t do a good enough
job building good etiquette habits in their children and there is absolutely no requirement for the skills
in the school systems. They may be enforced but they are in no form taught in a formal classroom
setting. In order to improve our society and educate people of these essential etiquettes we must
implement proper etiquette and life skills classes in the youth school systems.
Family household dynamics are drastically different in today s society. According to the California

The Importance Of Adaptation In Japanese Americans And...
Every human being, every animal, every plant has had to adapt in their life in order to survive.
Adaptation relates to everything, there is no life without adapting. The word adaptation means
modification of an organism or its parts that makes it more fit for existence under the conditions of its
environment: a heritable physical or behavioral trait that serves a specific function. Adaptation is
important because if Brent (The Burn Journals), the Japanese Americans, and Temple Grandin didn t
have adaptation they wouldn t have been able to live a normal life. One way that someone might show
adaptation in their life is when someone is born into a religious family. They adapt to going to
religious celebrations and don t think anything of it after they have been doing it through their
childhood. They have adapted to that certain schedule. There are also different ways adaptation can be
shown. The three examples from our literature will show how they have used adaptation in parts of
their life. In 1942 the Japanese Americans were relocated because of their race. They had to adapt to a
new way of life by realizing they had to work harder to just live. Temple Grandin was an autistic
young adult that was always moving. Temple had to adapt to the new surroundings every time she
moved to a new location. The Burn Journals is about a boy, named Brent Runyon, and he tried to
commit suicide by lighting himself on fire. He had to adapt to a new way of life in hospitals and

My Experience With Writing Class
Writing is always something that I needed to spend a little more time at. I was much better answering
math problems than I was writing a paper or explaining a book I just read. In my college writing class
I felt that I was always given a challenge. The book The Book Thief that I read was quite lengthy and
had a lot of symbolism in it that took me a while to completely understand. The papers that I had to do
in my college writing class were also a lot more challenging than the ones I had to do in other classes.
A song that I would use to explain my experience with writing and college writing class is The Climb
by Miley Cyrus. I would use Miley Cyrus s song to explain my experience with writing and my
college writing class because there is always going to ways to improve myself as a writer. When I do
any assignment in my college writing class I am always taking a chance with it. Writing can be taking
in so many different ways and there is not real right answer, most is just personal preference. It is also
a process that can be quite lengthy; it is not just a simple one step process. It requires a lot of editing
and having others give feedback about it.
2. If I were going to teach UWRT 1102 I would emphasize on composing processes. As a student
myself, I know that editing a paper is not something we enjoy to do. I, myself often just write a paper
once and just submit it. I think students should learn that writing is not just a one step process. Writing

Why Organizations are Accidents Waiting to Happen in In...
Why do organizations fail? In Patrick O Hara s prologue of his book, Why Law enforcement
Organizations Fail, he talks about how organizations are accidents waiting to happen. O Hara gives
examples of how one of the most well known federal government agencies, the FBI, still has mishaps
in their organization. In Dietrich Dorner s book, The Logic of Failure, he talks about how humans
make decisions and solve problems. Dorner believes the issue with humans solving problems is that
once immediate problems are solved we do not anticipate the new ones that appear. Sam Antar in his

People in organizations are tempted to sabotage the organization due to their ego, self interest and the
incentive of becoming higher in the organization s hierarchy (JJCOB1964, 2012). Furthermore, people
in these organizations can create small groups within the organization that can destroy the
organization (JJCOB1964, 2012). According to O Hara organizations must be quick to stop
environmental challenges (JJCOB1964, 2012). Only a few organizations can keep up with these
challenges and that is another reason why organizations fail (JJCOB1964, 2012). To illuminate, we
can look at Robert Hanssen who betrayed the FBI by giving Russian U.S secrets (O Hara, 2012, p. 5).
Hanssen who was described as an arrogant loner was reported by his FBI agent brother for being a
security risk (O Hara, 2012, p. 5). Despite being reported, Hanssen was able to climb the hierarchy in
the organization, which increased his ability to spy (O Hara, 2012, p. 5). Here we see a slow response
from the FBI to rid the organization of a threat. Although the FBI has many downturns the people of
the United States still heavily supports the organization (O Hara, 2012, p. 6). I believe that
organizations are accidents waiting to happen and I have seen this in a few places that I have worked.
For example, I had a bad experience working at an ice cream polar this past summer. The manager
was a wealthy man who owned the shop and real estate.

The Year-Round School Debate
A common debate among educators and school board members is the idea of year round schooling.
While many think this is best for students education, there are factors that could make it so it doesn t
affect their education or it makes matters worse. Most students are great full for their summer break.
They schedule family vacations, which are very important, and they are able to keep jobs with little to
no conflict in the summer. If that time was to be taken away, that would negatively affect students.
There are solutions other than making school go all year round.
A fact on year round schooling is that all schools would still take extended breaks after a set amount of
dates. The US Department of Education requires 180 days of attending school a year. One idea that a
school using year round school might use is the 60 20 plan. This means that students attend school for
60 days and get 20 days off. This also applies for the 45 15 and 80 30 plans. (Vandewater) ... Show

Also, the workload required of the teachers will go up. In addition, the students will be busy with
school work when they are usually on summer break. This is when most students will get jobs so that
school doesn t interfere. An employer will not want an employee that has to leave every week or so (
The Year Round School Debate ).
On the opposing side, researchers say that the long three months in the summer that students are not
attending school is when they lose the most information. Another benefit to switching to year round
schooling is that students will not get bored over the summer. They will have shorter breaks. It is also
said that hiring a tutor over the summer is not as good as some may think (Kalil). According to
another study, teachers and students don t have to spend as much time reviewing material that the
students learned the previous year. Also some schools that have switched to year round, got extra

this aging and learning from her experiences. She very slowly, but very normally learning who she is.
Esperanza s negative view of herself slowly changes as she begins to focus on her larger community
and her place within it. Through this, Cisneros shows that knowing and accepting where one comes
from is an important part of growing up and determining one s identity. Esperanza gets stunted from
growing because of the people she s around. Everybody that s around her are either much younger or
much older. This is shown by Esperanza using phrases like this kid in the vignette Our Good Day to
describe people around her (Cisneros 14). Having nothing but kids around someone is only going to
stop them from growing. Having someone that is ones age can help see what pace that person needs to
be at in order to keep up. This however, is not the case with Esperanza. The only people who she is

The Contributions Of Women In The American Civil War .
The Contributions of Women in the American Civil War
The Civil War was a divisive time in American history that tore the country in half for five long years
(1861 1865). After the election of Abraham Lincoln, the southern states seceded from the north and
formed the Confederate States of America because they saw their way of life being threatened. They
wanted to fight for their right to have slaves and for states to have more power. The North (Union)
fought because secession wasn t an option and they needed to preserve the country as a union. Lincoln
called on the men in the North to fight this war, but there was also an estimated 400 to 750 women
who were also soldiers. (civilwar.org) Many women stayed home and worked to maintain their ...

injured Union officers. After her dad s passing, Barton left the city clinics to go among the officers in
the field. She was able to bring three wagons full of medical supplies to the Union soldiers at the
Battle of Antietam which is known as the bloodiest single day battle in American History. Through
that battle she gathered men and directed them to get water, prepare food, and perform any first aid
necessary for the injured soldiers. Many of the supplies and transportation need for the Union was
provided by Barton herself or donations she was able to get. These are just two of the thousands of

Exploring Ways Of Assist And Or Intervene At Risk Students
The purpose of this study is to explore ways to assist and/or intervene at risk students in order to set
them on the path towards graduation. The NCES reported the graduation rate declined from 12% to
7% during 1990 2013. These are good improvements, however, we must continue take the necessary
steps to lower these numbers for future generations. Graduation will open up a world of opportunities
that might not other wise be available to them without a high school diploma. According to an article
in PBS Frontline in 2012, an individual without a high school diploma can earn, a national average of,
$20,241 a year. That is $10,386 less than a person who graduated from high school. $10,000 does not
sound like a lot of money spread out over an entire year, but it averages out to be an extra $200 a
week. In my opinion, that is significant. Someone who goes on to earn their bachelor degree can
expect to earn an additional $36,364 per year. What many students do not understand is that without
high school graduation they cannot enter the military or qualify for many lower scale jobs as these
require a diploma or high school equivalency. There are so many factors that contribute to a student s
decision to stay in school or to dropout but if communities and schools can intervene, maybe the
national dropout rate can be lowered lending to a better life for all involved. For the last eleven years I
have worked with at risk high school students in an alternative school associated

The Box Man Essay
Meaning
1. This essay implies to the reader that loneliness isn t always a vile thing. The author compares
somebody who has absolutely nothing in life but enjoys the solitude, to people who roam through life
alone, seeking for company but never find it. The author compares the chosen lifestyle of the box man,
to the undesired for loneliness of the victims. The author explains that although one may be poor and
alone, it does not mean that one is unhappy. For example, in paragraph 12 it is explained that the
mayor has offered him help, but the box man pushes it away. In paragraph 18 it is described how the
box man enjoys his dark life. It is portrayed that life is a solo journey and that one may be much more
miserable by going through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These assumptions are proven when the author mentions all the different stages of the quest before
finally realizing that it is all to be wasted away in the second half of your life.
Method and Structure
1. The author uses rhetorical devices in her essay to develop the main idea throughout the paragraphs.
She explains her feelings towards loneliness by using allusions and anecdotes. Fox example, she
brings up a memory in her past. The boxcar children would be an example of an allusion.(Par 9) These
methods all eventually lead up to the author s point of view, and the main idea of course.
2. The way the essay is organized helps the reader understand the purpose of the essay much better.
The author begins by telling a story, and the reader has no idea what the meaning is. The author
continues telling stories, and then it all leads up to the author s point of view on loneliness.
Language
1. The author s main idea and purposes are revealed by a series of anecdotes and allusions. The author
gets very personal about the subject, as if she was going through the realization herself. You can see
her opinion by the way she refers to certain things. For example, the author brings up an old memory
from her childhood in paragraph nine. When she is describing the boxcar children, the words she uses
are almost as if they were too

The Importance Of The Film Adaptation By William Shakespeare
To act is to breath life into a story that is otherwise a corpse, filled with the paradox of potential
energy. Also known as one of the most difficult crafts to master, acting is many things, but overall the
skill of adapting words into a visual experience that audiences then digest and carry with them as they
continue in their own lives. When a non actor thinks about acting, one may assume it is an easy job,
but the conscious psychological work (skilled) actors put forth in their performances is no easy feat,
especially if they are able to come across so authentically that viewers assume acting is easy.
However, acting is difficult, and even more difficult when playing a role that was adapted from a
novel, as scholar Dudley Andrew asserts in his chapter Adaptation in James Naremore s book Film
Adaptation. He points out that because the novel has a large fan base before it is adapted, there is also
a group of people waiting to scrutinize the film once made. This, in turn, grants the novel a greater
sense of superiority over the adaptation, because viewers fans of the novel assume that the film will be
worse.
Although viewers have their prejudices on film adaptations, they normally attack the structure of the
story, exclaiming that film did not stay faithful to the original story; only when a role is poorly cast do
the scrutinizing viewers point out the acting. In some cases, however, the actor s performance is so
precise that it, in itself, carries the

The use of computers in the classroom has been a major component in the development training for
students to get ready for a more technologically advanced workplace. Sheldon defines the problem of
untrained administrators, teachers, and other public school officials that did not know how to use the
computers provided for educating the students. IN one example at the Rancho Bizarro school, Sheldon
defines the inability of educators to be trained in computer technology: Teachers endured countless
mind numbing sermons on the power of technology, but failed to develop the necessary computer
skills (Rossett 210). In this manner, the problem of performance analysis for public school officials
was a major barrier to properly educating the students. Turtle Middle School is another example of a
computer technology expert, Tiffany Banana, that was brought in to order computers, and other
technologies to educate the students. However, Miss Banana brought new better faster software, but it
was soon found that teachers did not seem to be using their computers (Rossett 211). This is another
aspect of Sheldon s evaluation of a public school system that did not have a performance analysis

Super Cavitation Research Paper
What is super cavitation? To understand this question another needs to be asked. This question is what
is cavitation? Cavitation is the forming of small pockets of gas under water. These gas pockets are
formed when an area of low pressure is created at a constant temperature which in turn forms gas
bubbles that then rapidly collapse with immense force and heat. The heat and pressure of the
collapsing cavitation bubbles can reach up to 5,000 degrees Celsius and 1,000 atmospheres or in other
words almost the same amount of pressure as there is at the bottom of the ocean. Cavitation is a
serious problem when looking at underwater machinery that can form and area of low pressure. This is
because if cavitation occurs damage will be done to the machines. When cavitation occurs the heat

As was stated above it is caused in several different ways. One is through heat evaporating water
creating a gas pocket. Another is through pure speed and shape. The final is using propellers to form
areas of low pressure to start cavitation and form a super cavity. All of these methods work and there
is no real way to argue which method is the best as there are more ways currently being created but all
of them work it s just a matter of find out how to make them work efficiently. Using heat to vaporize
water could work but only if there is a method to deliver enough heat fast enough and for a long
period of time otherwise it will only work for a short distance. Propellers could work on a greater
scale but they would have to get increasingly larger and more powerful as size went up. Speed and
shape alone could also work but a source of speed such as a rocket is needed and the source of the
speed also must last a long time otherwise the object will only be able to travel short distances. Only
time and more experimentation will create a more efficient form of super cavitation that is easily
created and

Willy Loman Hallucinations
Literature has often been used to explain problems within society. This can be seen in Arthur Miller s
play Death of a Salesman. Arthur Miller s play was set in the late 1940 s in a post World War II
economy. Willy and Linda Loman and their two sons: Biff and Happy, live in Brooklyn, New York

Arthur Miller s play Willy Loman often has hallucinations about life when he was a young man.
Along with his hallucinations, Willy is very paranoid, constantly feeling that life is very unfair and
that someone is out to get him. Some see these symptoms and believe that Willy has a mental disorder.
Within this time period mental illness was not to be spoken about or acknowledged. Due to the

The grin of a clown, a deadly tree outside a window, and being afraid at night, all out of 1982 s

Descriptive Essay About My Room
Right now, my room is very childish. The colors in my room are very vibrant. My walls are a bright
blue and the shelves in my room are orange, pink and neon green. My comforter has all of those colors
in a straight line pattern. It helps to connect my entire room together, but it is time for a makeover. The
only thing staying the same in my room are the closets because they are a great storage area. Since the
closets are added on to the shape of the room, they do not take away from the space. I want my room
to be a place that is relaxed and comfy, but also a place where my friends and I can hang out. To
complete this goal, I am using a grey color on my walls to create a relaxed feeling. I am making my
room feel more grown up with a more neutral look and a bedspread as my accent.

The State Of Tennessee Defines Domestic Abuse Essay
The State of Tennessee defines Domestic Abuse as inflicting or attempting to inflict physical injury on
an adult or minor by other than accidental means, placing an adult or minor in fear, physical harm,
physical restraint, or malicious damage to the personal property of the abused party including
inflicting, or attempting to inflict, physical injury on any animal owned, possessed, leased, kept, or
held by an adult or minor, or placing an adult or minor in fear of physical harm to any animal owned,
possessed, leased, kept, or held by the adult or minor (Tennessee Code Annotated §36 3 601 (F) (3)).
This definition for many civilians is open to interpretation. As many officers have observed, verbal
altercations become heated and law enforcement is called at times by a third party. In most cases this
he said, she said occurs without witnesses (willing to cooperate) or unfortunately evidence of an
assault, the officer is therefore hard pressed to make a determination as to the primary aggressor.
Many times, as I have noticed, the aggressor has left the scene by the time officers arrive and if there
is no physical sign of abuse, a report or memo is done. Although the complainant is advised to follow
through with the necessary documentation to pursue legal remedies, they often do not either from fear
of retaliation by the individual, fear of the legal system as they have been negatively involved in some
aspect of the judicial system or lack of confidence in the legal system and

Identify and evaluate sources of debt financing
A company s debt, liabilities and risk are very important factors in understanding the company. Boeing
Company s total debt has increased over the past five years. The company reported a five year low of
$7.512 billion in 2008 and a five year high in 2009 at $12.924 billion. The company s 2011 reported
total debt of $12.371 billion is an increase of 50.55% over 2007.
Debt Ratios
3. Total Debt to Total Assets Ratio = Total Debt / Total Assets
2009 $12.924 billion / $62.053 billion = 0.21
2010 $12.421 billion / $68.565 billion = 0.18
2011 $12.371 billion / $79.986 billion = 0.15

Themes Of Letters To Kappus
In Letters to a Young Poet, Rilke writes letters to Kappus giving him advice and helping him figure
out solutions to deal with his problems. Themes such as solitude, childhood, criticism, and love tied in
into his life lessons trying to give Kappus a different perspective. Rilke taught Kappus to enjoy
solitude, maintain childhood innocence, ignore people s opinions, and to value the true meaning of
love. Not only does Rilke help and inspire Kappus but his readers as well. These letters allow readers
to form a new perspective on life due to Rilke s wisdom and knowledgeability. What is necessary,
after all, is only this: solitude, vast inner solitude. To walk inside yourself and meet no one for hours
that is what you must be able to attain, (Rilke 41). Rilke wanted Kappus to realize that there is no
reason to fear solitude. Solitude is about enjoying time spent alone, allowing people to explore what s
within. People tend to present themselves in a different manner when around others but solitude
allows one to be themselves. Not taking the time to get to know what is within and constantly being
surrounded by people, may have a negative effect on a person. Someone who doesn t take the time to
get to know themselves will allow others to shape them into the person they feel they re expected to
become. In reality, no one can tell someone who they should be, people can only figure that out for
themselves. With solitude no one can criticise one s behavior or set a

The Diversity Found in Christianity in Its First Three...
The Diversity Found in Christianity in Its First Three Centuries
For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many,
are one body, so it is with Christ. (1Cor 12: 12 13)
The Christian religion is said to be a  diverse phenomenon .[1] This is because there is so much
diversity existing in it although it claims to be a religion with unity based at the very core of its
teachings.
According to the Oxford English dictionary, Christianity is the religion based on the person and
teachings of Jesus Christ. [2]
Considered to be the Messiah and  Son of God , Jesus teachings and words of wisdom were not
recorded until after his death around 30 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Gnostics were dualists and they claimed there must be two Gods: a God of the material world in
which we live in now, and a Supreme, remote and unknowable Divine Being. The God of the material
world was called a  Demiurge (a term once used by Plato) or  Creator [7]. The Demiurge God
was the immediate source of creation and ruled the world we lived in. This God was the God of the
Jews. Valentius, a Gnostic theologian, further claimed that the emergence of the Demiurge was due to
the fall of Sophia the last of the three  aeons . The spiritual world or  pleroma is compromised
of 30  aeons emanated by the Primal Ground of Being. Sophia was one of these  aeons .[8]
The Gnostics argued that the God of the Jews either did not know about the Supreme Being or if he
did know, he concealed the identity. The Gnostics went on to argue that Jesus Christ came as a
messenger of the Supreme Being to bring  gnosis . As he was Divine, he temporarily inhabited a
human body which was that of Jesus. He did not die and he was not resurrected. They were just Â
play acting (the doctrine known as  docetism )[9]
Like the Gnostics, a Christian thinker called Marcion was determined to pull Christianity away from
its Jewish roots. He maintained, like the Gnostics, that the God of the Old

Joseph s Story
Question B. Since blood flow to Joseph s heart has slowed down greatly so have others things such as
oxygen flow, glucose, and necessary ions. With cells having to work extra hard attempting to get the
body back to homeostasis it is rapidly burning up its supply of adenosine triphosphate (ATP). Carbon
dioxide is beginning to build up in the cells, throwing off pH levels because carbon dioxide is waste
that needs to be gotten rid of. The mitochondria in Joseph s cells cannot make more ATP due to the
lack of oxygen and glucose. Since there is no ATP active transport cells cannot work so the hearts
plasma membrane shut down.

Revenge Conventions In Hamlet Essay
Hamlet is a play written by William Shakespeare that very closely follows the dramatic conventions of
revenge in Elizabethan theater. All revenge tragedies originally stemmed from the Greeks, who wrote
and performed the first plays. After the Greeks came Seneca who was very influential to all
Elizabethan tragedy writers. Seneca who was Roman, basically set all of the ideas and the norms for
all revenge play writers in the Renaissance era including William Shakespeare. The two most famous
English revenge tragedies written in the Elizabethan era were Hamlet, written by Shakespeare and The
Spanish Tragedy, written by Thomas Kyd. These two plays used mostly all of the Elizabethan
conventions for revenge tragedies in their plays. Hamlet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Seneca s influence formed part of a developing tradition of tragedies whose plots hinge on political
power, forbidden sexuality, family honor and private revenge. There was no author who exercised a
wider or deeper influence upon the Elizabethan mind or upon the Elizabethan form of tragedy than did
Seneca. For the dramatists of Renaissance Italy, France and England, classical tragedy meant only the
ten Latin plays of Seneca and not Euripides, Aeschylus and Sophocles. Hamlet is certainly not much
like any play of Seneca s one can name, but Seneca is undoubtedly one of the effective ingredients in
the emotional charge of Hamlet. Hamlet without Seneca is inconceivable. During the time of
Elizabethan theater, plays about tragedy and revenge were very common and a regular convention
seemed to be formed on what aspects should be put into a typical revenge tragedy. In all revenge
tragedies first and foremost, a crime is committed and for various reasons laws and justice cannot
punish the crime so the individual who is the main character, goes through with the revenge in spite of
everything. The main character then usually had a period of doubt , where he tries to decide whether
or not to go through with the revenge, which usually involves tough and complex planning. Other
features that were typical were the appearance of a ghost, to get the revenger to go through with the
deed. The

Effects Of Climate Variables On Crop Productivity Essay Although, a number of recent studies have carried out the effects of climate variables on crop productivity using simulation crop models such as CERES maize, CERES rice or EPIC models (Lansigan et al. 2000; Rosenzweig et al., 2002; Tan and Shibasaki, 2003; Popova and Kercheva 2005; Tao et al., 2008; Yin et al. 2015,). Most of these studies estimate adversely harmful effects of climate change on agriculture in both developed and developing countries using crop models (process based or statistical) with global climate model (GCM) outputs. A significant number of studies have been undertaken in recent decades in Asian regions using ORYZA2000 crop model in the Philippines (Bouman and van Laar, 2006), India (Yadav et al. 2011; Sumathi et al. 2015), Indonesia (Boling et al, 2007), China (Bouman et al, 2007; Feng et al, 2007; Sen et al. 2011) and Iran (Amiri, 2008; Amiri and Rezaei, 2009). In the mid 1990s, International Rice Research Institute and the Wageningen University and Research Centre developed the ORYZA model series to simulate growth and development of tropical lowland rice. The first model was ORYZA1 for potential production (Kropff et al, 1994), followed by ORYZA_W for water limited production, and by ORYZA N and ORYZA1N (Mohandass et al. 1995) for nitrogen limited production. • 5. Kevlar Essay After watching the videos and understanding what is being developed in the industry of material engineering, the material that I personally found most interesting was kevlar. It seemed like such a lightweight material yet it is very strong and it has a lot of different applications. Poly paraphenylene terephthalamide known as Kevlar, was invented by the chemist Stephanie Kwolek back in 1971. The material is produced by a chemical reaction with solvent and solutes. The production of this material is expensive as it is not easy to do. However it is not easy to produce Kevlar as this source states However, the fabric is expensive, difficult to manufacture because of its tight weave construction (Hosur). The following image shows the chemical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The polymer owes its high strength to the many inter chain bonds. These inter molecular hydrogen bonds form between the carbonyl groups and NH centers. Additional strength is derived from aromatic stacking interactions between adjacent strands. These interactions have a greater influence on Kevlar than the van der Waals interactions and chain length that typically influence the properties of other synthetic polymers and fibers (Wikipedia). Therefore its main strength comes from the intermolecular bonds and stacking of the material. Even though Kevlar is a very strong material, it is yet very light considering the high strain it can handle. As this source claims Their high strength to weight ratio and ability to resist high speed impacts enable them to be more efficient than metals (Zhu). By this measure it is also known that Kevlar is almost five more times stronger than steel. This image shows the tensile strength of Kevlar in comparison to other materials. As seen, there is drastic difference and it has a much larger tensile strength. Kevlar has a lot of different applications, however it is most known for its application in the protection field. It is usually used for armors, objects such as helmets and ballistic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. College Education Gap Analysis Since the beginning of American history, there has always been a gap in achievement between the Black and minority community versus their counterparts, the Whites. The difference between the two groups was that of opportunities. Minorities in the United States were initially deprived of all chances at prosperity, and Whites were born into a societal prosperity; an idea that Beverly Tatum calls White Privilege. This ideology is not new to society, but is dated to around 539 B.C. and is firmly rooted in American humanity ( Freedom of Religion Public Education ). Religious freedom is a universal human right that protects the choice of religion someone chooses and practices. Without this civil right, people cannot think, express or act upon with religious liberty and this can result to acts of violence, inequality and prejudice throughout the state ( Freedom of Religion or Belief. ). A community that consists of an array of acceptances is going to allow diversity to flourish. James Madison brings an important transformation of 1800 s and 1900 s America through religious freedom. To begin, this courageous man advocates for religious liberty through his choices of beliefs. Notably, he promotes differences in the community as well as writes to defend citizens ethics. Madison has the ability to manage diverse people occupying different beliefs. For example, he works with a variety of religious beliefs such as Lutherans, Baptists and Presbyterians ( God In America. ). He supports human rights because he accepts different religions; he doesn t have any discrimination towards the different beliefs that exist in society. In addition, the man writes the Memorial and Remonstrance to defend his choice to support the community for religious freedom ( God In America. ). Brad attends Shiloh Hills Elementary School in the rural area of the Wilson School District. Brad is a first grade student in Mrs. Detwiler s classroom who suffers from brain damage and unfortunately he s dealt with it since he was born. Brad is an energetic, positive kid who loves to tell stories and talk about Pokémon. He does not act up in class and he tends to be very polite and well behaved. Whenever the teacher gives him an activity to do he tries his very best to accomplish it without the help of an aid, but most times he is left with no choice due to his condition. A couple of Brad s strengths include being able to count dots 1 34 without any issues, and he is able to comprehend the number of dots he counted and write it down for the answer. For basic numbers such as 1 10, he is able to do it fully on his on and get all of the digits correct. For numbers greater than 10, he is dependent on the help of one of the other teachers. His main weakness in math is his lack of ability to do problems on his own. He relies on counting dots to add up the numbers and my goal for him is for him to be able to see a number and know how much it is worth rather than using dots to count. • 13. McPherson and Hearn on Abraham Lincoln Essay The presidency of Abraham Lincoln came during a highly radical and chaotic period of American history. For historians such as James McPherson, they see Lincoln as the greatest leader in American history. For McPherson, Lincoln succeeded in combining military pragmatism with the political ideologies of the North, as well as Lincoln s own idealism, thus assuring Northern victory. However, not all historians agree that Lincoln was a masterful tactician. Chester Hearn, believes that although Abraham Lincoln was one of America s most venerable statesmen, his presidency was marked by flaws and a general misunderstanding of how war is waged. Although Hearn does not entirely refute the commonly view of Lincoln as a brilliant tactician and morally inspired leader, he also provides many examples of Lincoln s failures. Many of the policies, which McPherson celebrates, Hearn depicts as misguided and desperate. Although James McPherson presents Lincoln as having numerous qualities that defined him as a brilliant leader, he wastes no time in revealing what he believes to be Lincoln s greatest strength. In his Introduction, McPherson states regarding Lincoln s political leadership: In a civil war whose origins lay in a political conflict over the future of slavery and a political decision by certain states to secede, policy could never be separated from national strategy.... And neither policy nor national strategy could be separated from military strategy (McPherson, p.6). Lincoln could not approach the war from a purely martial standpoint instead, he needed to focus on the issues that caused it. For the catalyst of the war was also the tool for its solution; a war started by differing ideologies could only be resolved through the military application of ideology. This non objective approach to the waging of the war almost resembles the inspired approach McPherson brings to his examination of Lincoln himself. • 14. Extracting Natural Gas From Shale And Other Rock Formation Resulting of recent technological innovations improving the ability of extracting natural gas from shale and other rock formation. The popularity of hydraulic fracturing remains leading in the direction of new venture opportunities and increasing growth for the natural gas and oil production industry. With the development, comes risk and scrutiny. According to Robert W. Howarth and Anthony Ingraffea natural gas extracted from shale comes at too great a cost to the environment, and must be illegal. Natural gas from shale remains vastly proposed as clean, comparable with oil and coal that can decrease the outpouring while still satisfying rich fossil fuel over coming decades until a switch to renewable energy sources exists. However shale gas being clean remains false, and it used as bridge fuel stays a terrible idea. Shale rock formation can hold large quantities of natural gas, however that gas remains mostly made up of methane. (Natural Gas:Should fracking stop?) For a long period of time a majority of this gas was not economically reachable. However over the past decade, two new technological advancements recently combined allowing extracting of the gas. This process is known as hydraulic fracturing, in which extremely high pressured water with additional chemicals forced two to three kilometers in the ground is extracting the gas. • 16. Pierre Bourdieu And Coleman Essay Pierre Bourdieu and James Coleman are the two sociologist who studied social capital. It was Bourdieu who is credited with developing the term in sociology, and Coleman who introduced it for widespread use. Bourdieu classified his theory into fields of theory, which are capital and how they relate to class reproduction. For Pierre the relationship between social and economic capital was the key, while Coleman thought that ties to the community is what made social capital happen. While both felt that social capital went hand in hand with social structure, they theorized it in different manners. Bourdieu and Coleman emphasized other forms of social capital as it deals with the intangible aspects of social capital. Economic capital can be found in peoples bank accounts, whilst human capital resides in peoples heads. Social capital, however, inheres in the structure of their relationships. Thus to possess social capital, a person must be related to others and it is those others, not himself, who are the actual source of advantage (Portes, 1998). The rules are there to make everyone equal, but in reality they are making everything exponentially unequal. The laws are there to keep the people believing they are equal. However, if the people knew what advantages they could obtain in the new society, would these people decide to stay in the society where they are told what to do their entire lives, or would they go with Prometheus to his new modern society. First, the rules are there to give equality. But, to be equal everyone would have to have the same job. I can see how this wouldn t work. If everyone had the same job nothing would get accomplished. • 21. Importance Of Good Manners Essay Manners, we hear about then every day, at home, at work, from our parents, and peers but do we really recognize the importance of good manners? Manners are respectful actions that make an ordinary man a gentleman. Good manners and courtesies are one of the most valuable facets of society. They make a man a useful member of the world, making one functional in both their professional life and personal life by helping us to win the favor and confidence of others. In order to have progress in life, good manners are essential. On the other hand, an ill mannered man is generally shunned by everyone and has no chance of success in any walk of life he pursues. In today s society, proper etiquette and good manners are almost nonexistent in some parts of the country and we have to ask ourselves why this is. Why do people lack the basic etiquette that is essential to living a professional and respectful life? The answer is that people are uneducated on these topics. The fact is most parents don t do a good enough job building good etiquette habits in their children and there is absolutely no requirement for the skills in the school systems. They may be enforced but they are in no form taught in a formal classroom setting. In order to improve our society and educate people of these essential etiquettes we must implement proper etiquette and life skills classes in the youth school systems. • 22. The Importance Of Adaptation In Japanese Americans And... Every human being, every animal, every plant has had to adapt in their life in order to survive. Adaptation relates to everything, there is no life without adapting. The word adaptation means modification of an organism or its parts that makes it more fit for existence under the conditions of its environment: a heritable physical or behavioral trait that serves a specific function. Adaptation is important because if Brent (The Burn Journals), the Japanese Americans, and Temple Grandin didn t have adaptation they wouldn t have been able to live a normal life. One way that someone might show adaptation in their life is when someone is born into a religious family. They adapt to going to religious celebrations and don t think anything of it after they have been doing it through their childhood. They have adapted to that certain schedule. There are also different ways adaptation can be shown. The three examples from our literature will show how they have used adaptation in parts of their life. In 1942 the Japanese Americans were relocated because of their race. They had to adapt to a new way of life by realizing they had to work harder to just live. Temple Grandin was an autistic young adult that was always moving. Temple had to adapt to the new surroundings every time she moved to a new location. The Burn Journals is about a boy, named Brent Runyon, and he tried to commit suicide by lighting himself on fire. He had to adapt to a new way of life in hospitals and having no ... I was much better answering math problems than I was writing a paper or explaining a book I just read. In my college writing class I felt that I was always given a challenge. The book The Book Thief that I read was quite lengthy and had a lot of symbolism in it that took me a while to completely understand. The papers that I had to do in my college writing class were also a lot more challenging than the ones I had to do in other classes. A song that I would use to explain my experience with writing and college writing class is The Climb by Miley Cyrus. When I do any assignment in my college writing class I am always taking a chance with it. Writing can be taking in so many different ways and there is not real right answer, most is just personal preference. It is also a process that can be quite lengthy; it is not just a simple one step process. It requires a lot of editing and having others give feedback about it. 2. If I were going to teach UWRT 1102 I would emphasize on composing processes. As a student myself, I know that editing a paper is not something we enjoy to do. People in organizations are tempted to sabotage the organization due to their ego, self interest and the incentive of becoming higher in the organization s hierarchy (JJCOB1964, 2012). Furthermore, people in these organizations can create small groups within the organization that can destroy the organization (JJCOB1964, 2012). According to O Hara organizations must be quick to stop environmental challenges (JJCOB1964, 2012). Only a few organizations can keep up with these challenges and that is another reason why organizations fail (JJCOB1964, 2012). To illuminate, we can look at Robert Hanssen who betrayed the FBI by giving Russian U.S secrets (O Hara, 2012, p. 5). Hanssen who was described as an arrogant loner was reported by his FBI agent brother for being a security risk (O Hara, 2012, p. 5). Despite being reported, Hanssen was able to climb the hierarchy in the organization, which increased his ability to spy (O Hara, 2012, p. 5). Here we see a slow response from the FBI to rid the organization of a threat. Although the FBI has many downturns the people of the United States still heavily supports the organization (O Hara, 2012, p. 6). • 25. The Year-Round School Debate A common debate among educators and school board members is the idea of year round schooling. While many think this is best for students education, there are factors that could make it so it doesn t affect their education or it makes matters worse. Most students are great full for their summer break. They schedule family vacations, which are very important, and they are able to keep jobs with little to no conflict in the summer. If that time was to be taken away, that would negatively affect students. There are solutions other than making school go all year round. A fact on year round schooling is that all schools would still take extended breaks after a set amount of dates. The US Department of Education requires 180 days of attending school a year. One idea that a school using year round school might use is the 60 20 plan. This means that students attend school for 60 days and get 20 days off. This also applies for the 45 15 and 80 30 plans. Exploring Ways Of Assist And Or Intervene At Risk Students The purpose of this study is to explore ways to assist and/or intervene at risk students in order to set them on the path towards graduation. The NCES reported the graduation rate declined from 12% to 7% during 1990 2013. These are good improvements, however, we must continue take the necessary steps to lower these numbers for future generations. Graduation will open up a world of opportunities that might not other wise be available to them without a high school diploma. According to an article in PBS Frontline in 2012, an individual without a high school diploma can earn, a national average of, $20,241 a year. That is $10,386 less than a person who graduated from high school. $10,000 does not sound like a lot of money spread out over an entire year, but it averages out to be an extra $200 a week. In my opinion, that is significant. Someone who goes on to earn their bachelor degree can expect to earn an additional $36,364 per year. What many students do not understand is that without high school graduation they cannot enter the military or qualify for many lower scale jobs as these require a diploma or high school equivalency. There are so many factors that contribute to a student s decision to stay in school or to dropout but if communities and schools can intervene, maybe the national dropout rate can be lowered lending to a better life for all involved. • 33. The Importance Of The Film Adaptation By William Shakespeare To act is to breath life into a story that is otherwise a corpse, filled with the paradox of potential energy. Also known as one of the most difficult crafts to master, acting is many things, but overall the skill of adapting words into a visual experience that audiences then digest and carry with them as they continue in their own lives. When a non actor thinks about acting, one may assume it is an easy job, but the conscious psychological work (skilled) actors put forth in their performances is no easy feat, especially if they are able to come across so authentically that viewers assume acting is easy. However, acting is difficult, and even more difficult when playing a role that was adapted from a novel, as scholar Dudley Andrew asserts in his chapter Adaptation in James Naremore s book Film Adaptation. He points out that because the novel has a large fan base before it is adapted, there is also a group of people waiting to scrutinize the film once made. This, in turn, grants the novel a greater sense of superiority over the adaptation, because viewers fans of the novel assume that the film will be worse. Although viewers have their prejudices on film adaptations, they normally attack the structure of the story, exclaiming that film did not stay faithful to the original story; only when a role is poorly cast do the scrutinizing viewers point out the acting. The State Of Tennessee Defines Domestic Abuse Essay The State of Tennessee defines Domestic Abuse as inflicting or attempting to inflict physical injury on an adult or minor by other than accidental means, placing an adult or minor in fear, physical harm, physical restraint, or malicious damage to the personal property of the abused party including inflicting, or attempting to inflict, physical injury on any animal owned, possessed, leased, kept, or held by an adult or minor, or placing an adult or minor in fear of physical harm to any animal owned, possessed, leased, kept, or held by the adult or minor (Tennessee Code Annotated §36 3 601 (F) (3)). This definition for many civilians is open to interpretation. As many officers have observed, verbal altercations become heated and law enforcement is called at times by a third party. In most cases this he said, she said occurs without witnesses (willing to cooperate) or unfortunately evidence of an assault, the officer is therefore hard pressed to make a determination as to the primary aggressor. Many times, as I have noticed, the aggressor has left the scene by the time officers arrive and if there is no physical sign of abuse, a report or memo is done. Although the complainant is advised to follow through with the necessary documentation to pursue legal remedies, they often do not either from fear of retaliation by the individual, fear of the legal system as they have been negatively involved in some aspect of the judicial system or lack of confidence in the legal system and ... • 43. Themes Of Letters To Kappus In Letters to a Young Poet, Rilke writes letters to Kappus giving him advice and helping him figure out solutions to deal with his problems. Themes such as solitude, childhood, criticism, and love tied in into his life lessons trying to give Kappus a different perspective. Rilke taught Kappus to enjoy solitude, maintain childhood innocence, ignore people s opinions, and to value the true meaning of love. Not only does Rilke help and inspire Kappus but his readers as well. These letters allow readers to form a new perspective on life due to Rilke s wisdom and knowledgeability. What is necessary, after all, is only this: solitude, vast inner solitude. To walk inside yourself and meet no one for hours that is what you must be able to attain, (Rilke 41). Rilke wanted Kappus to realize that there is no reason to fear solitude. Solitude is about enjoying time spent alone, allowing people to explore what s within. People tend to present themselves in a different manner when around others but solitude allows one to be themselves. Not taking the time to get to know what is within and constantly being surrounded by people, may have a negative effect on a person. Someone who doesn t take the time to get to know themselves will allow others to shape them into the person they feel they re expected to become. In reality, no one can tell someone who they should be, people can only figure that out for themselves. With solitude no one can criticise one s behavior or set a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Diversity Found in Christianity in Its First Three... The Diversity Found in Christianity in Its First Three Centuries  For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. (1Cor 12: 12 13) The Christian religion is said to be a  diverse phenomenon .[1] This is because there is so much diversity existing in it although it claims to be a religion with unity based at the very core of its teachings. According to the Oxford English dictionary, Christianity is the religion based on the person and teachings of Jesus Christ. [2] Considered to be the Messiah and  Son of God , Jesus teachings and words of wisdom were not recorded until after his death around 30 ... The Gnostics were dualists and they claimed there must be two Gods: a God of the material world in which we live in now, and a Supreme, remote and unknowable Divine Being. The God of the material world was called a  Demiurge (a term once used by Plato) or  Creator [7]. The Demiurge God was the immediate source of creation and ruled the world we lived in. This God was the God of the Jews. Valentius, a Gnostic theologian, further claimed that the emergence of the Demiurge was due to the fall of Sophia the last of the three  aeons . The spiritual world or  pleroma is compromised of 30  aeons emanated by the Primal Ground of Being. Sophia was one of these  aeons .[8] The Gnostics argued that the God of the Jews either did not know about the Supreme Being or if he did know, he concealed the identity. The Gnostics went on to argue that Jesus Christ came as a messenger of the Supreme Being to bring  gnosis . As he was Divine, he temporarily inhabited a human body which was that of Jesus. He did not die and he was not resurrected. They were just  play acting (the doctrine known as  docetism )[9] Like the Gnostics, a Christian thinker called Marcion was determined to pull Christianity away from its Jewish roots. He maintained, like the Gnostics, that the God of the Old ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Revenge Conventions In Hamlet Essay Hamlet is a play written by William Shakespeare that very closely follows the dramatic conventions of revenge in Elizabethan theater. All revenge tragedies originally stemmed from the Greeks, who wrote and performed the first plays. After the Greeks came Seneca who was very influential to all Elizabethan tragedy writers. Seneca who was Roman, basically set all of the ideas and the norms for all revenge play writers in the Renaissance era including William Shakespeare. The two most famous English revenge tragedies written in the Elizabethan era were Hamlet, written by Shakespeare and The Spanish Tragedy, written by Thomas Kyd. These two plays used mostly all of the Elizabethan conventions for revenge tragedies in their plays. Hamlet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Seneca s influence formed part of a developing tradition of tragedies whose plots hinge on political power, forbidden sexuality, family honor and private revenge. There was no author who exercised a wider or deeper influence upon the Elizabethan mind or upon the Elizabethan form of tragedy than did Seneca. For the dramatists of Renaissance Italy, France and England, classical tragedy meant only the ten Latin plays of Seneca and not Euripides, Aeschylus and Sophocles. Hamlet is certainly not much like any play of Seneca s one can name, but Seneca is undoubtedly one of the effective ingredients in the emotional charge of Hamlet. Hamlet without Seneca is inconceivable. During the time of Elizabethan theater, plays about tragedy and revenge were very common and a regular convention seemed to be formed on what aspects should be put into a typical revenge tragedy. In all revenge tragedies first and foremost, a crime is committed and for various reasons laws and justice cannot punish the crime so the individual who is the main character, goes through with the revenge in spite of everything. The main character then usually had a period of doubt , where he tries to decide whether or not to go through with the revenge, which usually involves tough and complex planning. Other features that were typical were the appearance of a ghost, to get the revenger to go through with the deed. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
