ASSURE Method Assignment
1. Analyze Learners – This class is made up of a majority of special education 1st grade
students who are predominately white. This class is less than half ADHD students as
well.
2. State Objectives – My objectives for teaching these first graders the months of the year
are to have them categorize the months of the year in: chronological order, by season, by
their numerical date (January – 1st month and August – 8th month), and in alphabetical
order. I will accomplish this by singing songs, having them do daily forecasts, doing
activities, and giving them oral “tests” (ex: Name aloud the three months that start with
the letter “J”). These children will be able to name all of the months of the year at the end
of a two week period.
3. Select Methods, Media, and Materials – The method I will use will be by using all there
learning styles so that each child will be able to learn in their own way. I will orally sing
and say the months depending on the way they will have to categorize them that day. I
will give them activities for them to show me visually the categorization. Lastly, I will
play games like racing against each other in groups to label the months in the specific
order. I will use media to find and play songs to sing and dance along to that will help the
children with ADHD.
2. 4. Utilize Media and Materials – I will use media in my classroom by finding songs on the
internet to help aid the learning of this material for the children to grasp the concept more
proficiently. I will also use to it to show the different types of aspects that go along with
each season so they are able to accurately describe the months better. If the media does
not work, I will have print outs of pictures that show the different aspects of the months
and seasons.
5. Require Learner Participation – The way I will use this portion of the method is by
dividing the class into small groups and having them all do activities with different
months each day until all the groups have learned more about each month.
6. Evaluate and Revise – I will constantly be assessing as to whether or not the children are
learning through the methods that I will be using and modify my plan accordingly. I will
begin the lesson by seeing how much the children know about the months of the year.
From there, I will alter my lesson plan to meet the needs of the students.
