This document outlines a lesson plan for teaching 1st grade special education students the months of the year in chronological order. The teacher will use hands-on activities like a large calendar where students can physically place the months in order, as well as videos and songs to reinforce learning. Throughout the week students will be engaged through games and required to participate by answering questions and taking turns placing months on the calendar. Their progress will be evaluated through class participation and filling out their own calendars.

1. ASSURE METHOD ASSIGNMENT
Analyze Learners:
The students I will be teaching are in the 1st grade. They are all part of the special
education program. Less than half of the students suffer from attention deficit disorder. The
class has a few more boys than girls. The class varies in ethnic background; the majority of the
students are Caucasian and the minorities are African-American and Hispanic.
While talking with the students, most of them know all the months of the year. They
know the months in which they were born and when specific holiday happens. The students
have trouble put all of the months in chronological order.
With most of the students being ADHD, they prefer to do hands on activities rather than
being talked at. They do not learn well while sitting at a desk all of class.
State Objectives:
My 1st grade students will learn to recite the months of the year in chronological order.
They will be able to do this by singing songs, looking at calendars and posters, playing games,
and discussing holidays that occur within each month. Students will be able to recite the
months after a week with 90% accuracy.
Select the Methods, Media, and Materials:
The class will use large calendar where the students will be able Velcro the different
months to specific spots on the poster. With this I hope to give the students a physical
representation of the calendar and the months of the year. It also gives the student a chance to
move around a little bit by going in front of the class to place each piece on the poster.
I will also be showing the class videos online that contain music and fun ways of learning
the moths. This way the students will be able to not only learn the songs, but have a visual to go
with them.
Every day the class will listen to different songs that teach the months of the year. The
students will be able to sing along to the songs and learn to memorize the months in
chronological order. I will also include games to get every child involved. They will play guessing
games, like “what holiday does this month happen?” and “what kind of weather does this
month have?”

2. I will make sure all the posters are located in a visible place for all students. The music
player will also be checked with the songs already on and ready to play. They room will be
decorated in fun posters that have to do with different holidays labeled with the month they
occur in. I will be prewatching all videos to make sure they are apporiate for the child’s age
level. The first day I will introduce the students to all the months to help get them excited about
learning all of them.
Require Learner Participation:
All the students will be required to answer questions about the months. They will also
be required to put the months on the big calendar at the front of the classroom least once
during the week.
Evaluate and Revise:
The students will be evaluated throughout the week by class participation. They will also
fill in a printed out calendar with all the months, which will help me keep track of their
progress.
