Name: Megan del Mar
Candidate Number: 4028
Centre Number: 64315
2. Unit 30 – UK Media Publishing - Proposal
Format: Magazine
I am going to produce a new classic and modern rock, folk, soul, country to reggae, electronic
and experimental music magazine in the form of a Front Cover and DPS (Double Page Spread) as
part of a larger promotional project for ‘Tune iN’ magazine. My magazine will contain back stage
at festivals/ concerts, upcoming tours, reviews on albums & films, working in the studio, celebrity
gossip, new albums coming up, and interviews with the most popular music artists at the time
and lastly, competitions. Moreover, I will be promoting my magazine in social media such as
Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Instagram.
Working Title:
My working title is ‘Tune iN’ although this might change. This is part of the name of a band that
could appear in the fanzine although it will not be all about them. The font style I will be using
will be Century Gothic for the masthead and the website link, Times New Roman for the cover
lines, sky line and headline. Moreover, Arial font style for the puff promotion. Furthermore, Brush
Script Std for the strapline. Lastly, Myriad Pro for normal text such as for the double page spread.
The format of the Front Cover and Double Page Spread will be simple but effective such as using
the same colour throughout the magazine to build brand identity and the colours that I will be
using will be presented in various ways such as their purpose.
Genre:
The sub-genre of my music magazine is classic and modern rock, folk, soul, country to reggae,
electronic and experimental. The magazine will be aiming to compete with from the same sub-
genre, Mojo magazine. The purpose why I have chosen to have a multiple of genres like Mojo is
to make my target audience interested and to learn more about other genres that they do not
usually listen to and engage them as much music genre in one music magazine.
Content:
The name of sub-genre entitled ‘Tune iN’ magazine will be full of pictures, articles, album
reviews, gig reports and song lyrics. The publication will also feature bands that are generally
quite small and not mainstream. Most will be signed to small record labels or perhaps not signed
at all. As it will cover verities of sub-genre I will have to make sure my magazine will contain those
sub-genres. To make it fair I will create a questionnaire on a monthly basis to be able to create an
accurate issue for that month. Moreover, to be able to grab my target audience’ attention the
front cover will contain ‘star appeal’ (Richard Dyer) to grow popularity and also to entertain the
readers who will purchase the issue.
Style or Approach:
The colour scheme that I have chosen is pink, white and blue and will be consistent throughout
my magazine to insure brand identity. The colour blue connotes security, confidence, reliable and
responsible. With the colour pink it ‘signifies’ (De Saussure) compassion, nurturing and love. It
relates to unconditional love and understanding. Gives passion and energy towards the
magazine. Lastly, with colour white it indicates purity and professionalism.
I am going to use Photoshop to construct the magazine pages (Front Cover and Double Page
Spread) because some of the tools in Photoshop that will be particularly beneficial in constructing
Front Cover will be the hue saturation to create an effect towards my main image to make the
artist stand out also with the help of levels as well to balance the colours. Moreover, using the
layer style to have an impact towards the audience such as making the text bolder and appealing.

Audience:
The audience is mostly male although there are still female fans. They are 15-24 in general
although some might be older and a few younger. Music is a big part of their life and they will
base most of their activities and their style around this music. Moreover, I have acknowledged
the audience theory that I am more targeting to the explorers through seeking discovery, energy,
individualism and experience which also values difference and adventure.
Length:
In length, there will be 131 pages as my magazine is a monthly basis it will be enough to cover the
key information such as tour dates, interviews, competition etc. However, for my flat plan I only
covered 64 pages as it is just an overview of what the magazine will look like. Moreover, the size
of my magazine will be an A4 page as it is the most important one for daily office use.
Frequency:
Monthly
Why?
Because my competitor produce a magazine that is a monthly magazine.
Cost?
The starting cost will be £2.50 but however Mojo’s magazine cost £4.80 per magazine. I know my
magazine cost very little but this will go up depending on how my first issue will sell. If it is
successful there is a high percentage that it will cost more a little at a time each year.
