Unit 13 – Planning and Pitching a Print based Media Product - Proposal
Format:
By creating a magazine with a reflection of an upbeat hip-hop and rock vibe, my
magazine will contain a front and back cover, along with a double page spread, this would
allow me as a student to create a magazine that would have contain a decent amount of
information, the public would be drawn to it. Also with the use of creating a Front and
Back cover, this would enhance identification of the magazine due to the Masthead and
Main Headline. With the enhancement of the main image, this would notify the public
about the genre of the magazine.
Working Title:
With my working title ROCKSTARS is a symbol of how the magazine would relate to the
music industry, with the combination of ‘Rock’ suggesting a solid magazine and a solid
title and ‘Stars’ relating to famous celebrity artists, would result in a attract to the
magazine, because of the eye catching brand name and the contents on the front cover.
Although my working title is quite simple, it would be memorable to the public and the
subscribers to the magazine.
Genre:
My subgenre of my magazine will be based on upbeat hip hop, therefore attract the young
population to the magazine. My magazine will also be in competition with the Kerrang and
NME as of the use of bright bold colours and a decent amount of anchoring information
that would attract the reader.
Content:
My magazine would contain a lot of photos as such of main images with the
complimentary pull quotes and photo credits. Since my magazine is focusing on the
popularity of celebrity updates and information based on the music genre, my magazine
would contain my double page spreads of pictures with pull quotes and credits. Also my
magazine would have relevant and entertaining information based on the music genre
such as; Interviews, Competition and Music Rewards/Reviews. The use of Katz theory of
‘Personal Identification’ and ‘Personal Relationship’; identity of the brand due to the
Masthead, my magazine might also contain a ‘Star Appeal’ for example ‘Richard Dyer’
Style or Approach:
My magazine would contain colours that would be eye-catching to the public, by standing
out due to the; Main image, Cover lines and Main Headline. for my second magazine, the
main colours I would be using are: Green, Orange, Purple and Blue
The colour Green connotes; Enhance the convention of the bold and black masthead and
the anchorage text which bring out the rest of the features on the magazine cover.
The colour Orange depicts with the white text against the orange outline text box, the
transparent text box would connotes the main image and the background, making the
magazine look more professional, resulting in a increase in popularity.
The colour Blue connotes the convention of the main headline, because of the masthead
above, would amplify the magazines front cover.
The colour purple, for the convention of the Barcode and puff promotion, is a deep colour
that would notify the reader about the magazine, as such of the barcode having informing
the reader about the issue of the magazine, the website address and the price of the
Unit 13 – Planning and Pitching a Print based Media Product - Proposal
magazine. Also, the puff promotion would not momentarily catch the public’s eye,
however, resemble a sponsorship, notification about the magazine.
Finally, these colours would connote that the magazine would seem professional,
because of the eye popping main image, also my model would wear simple and dark
colours against a plain background, because, the conventions of the front cover would be
momentarily attractive to the public eye.
My approach to creating my magazine, the software/ technology I would be using to
creating my magazine front cover, back cover and double page spread, I will be
producing my magazine by using the software of Photoshop CC (2015 version) along
with the main use of the following tools
● Quick Selection Tool - To crop out a specific area of an image, for example, the
main image of the model and place it onto a new/different background. I would
use this tool in photoshop because, this would allow me to select only the key
features which i want to include in my magazine, for example, social media links.
● Magic Wand tool - Cut out white or coloured areas on images, for example; cut out
white areas on social media logos
● Ruler Tool - To keep work/text well organised and tidy.
Audience:
● Age
● Gender
● Socio-Economic Needs
● Ethnicity
● Stereotypes
This magazine will mostly relate to the gender of the males, because the content would
contain information that would resemble male side of today’s population. However my
other magazine ‘TeensRule’ relate its content to both the male and female young
population. In addition, the magazine would have colours that would resemble and
become more eye catching to the male gender. My magazine target audience would be
aimed to the same age group as my target audience to my magazine ‘TeensRule’
because, my magazine is targeted to the young population. For the male gender, the
social and economic needs of the magazine would be in a relation to the common
interests of the male gender. However my magazine will not stereotype the male gender,
because my magazine only focuses on the boy interests. Finally, my magazine will not
offend anyone of that ethnicity as my magazine content, will not offend the public,
however anchor the public to read the magazine.
Length:
Different from my first magazine ‘TeensRule’, my second magazine ‘RockStars’ will have
a length of roughly 30 to 40 page, although my magazine will be released fortnightly, the
number of pages for this magazine will be 40 to 60 page. However, is may or may not be
beneficial during the production process because, of the amount of paper used per issue
and may have a later effect on the production. Furthermore, my magazine will have a
page size of A4, but on the consequence my magazine will consist of 32 pages, including
the front and back over of the magazine.
Frequency:
Monthly? Weekly? Fortnightly?
My magazine would have a frequency of a fortnightly issue, because in comparison to my
first magazine ‘TeensRule’ which is aimed to both the male and female gender, my
second magazine is mainly aimed to only the male gender, because, my second
magazine was inspired my the music magazine ‘RESPECT’. This would be an
appropriate release of the magazine, as the male population would receive a planned
update on the issue release of the magazine.
Unit 13 – Planning and Pitching a Print based Media Product - Proposal
Why?
I chose this release issue date because of the high demand in production, however the
low beneficial cost in comparison to a magazine issue that would be released weekly. I
decided on creating a magazine that would be released every two weeks, would be
interesting to the public because, of the 32 page issue, that is aimed mainly to my target
audience of the male gender.
Cost?
Finally, my magazine would have a higher price from the first magazine ‘TeensRule’. My
second magazine would have a price of £3.50, this is because of the higher number of
pages.
What could you develop further
1. Making a social media page
Creating a linked source of my second magazines, will allow the interaction between the
public and the magazine company with the continuous updates and background in the
production process through, Facebook and Twitter
2. Making a website
The link will be presented on the social media websites and also the front cover, back cover
and double page spread of my magazine. This would act a constant reminder of the social
interaction of the magazine and the public; in which the magazine website would contain,
videos at concerts, interviews with popular artists (for example Birdman) and the daily news
on the music world.
3. Making an app
To allow accessible offline access to the magazine and the monthly issues other features
that may attract the public, such as collaborations and competitions.
4. Making an poster
Symbolise a banner that would introduce the public of my target audience to my magazine
and be notified about the background, eg. Genre, Target Audience and Content type.
5. Position in marketplace
Although this would be difficult at the start of any business, the market position would
gradually increase depending on the interactions with popular artists as well as the genre
music album on Apple Music, Itunes or Spotify.

My approach to creating my magazine, the software/ technology I would be using to creating my magazine front cover, back cover and double page spread, I will be producing my magazine by using the software of Photoshop CC (2015 version) along with the main use of the following tools ● Quick Selection Tool - To crop out a specific area of an image, for example, the main image of the model and place it onto a new/different background. Audience: ● Age ● Gender ● Socio-Economic Needs ● Ethnicity ● Stereotypes This magazine will mostly relate to the gender of the males, because the content would contain information that would resemble male side of today’s population. However my other magazine ‘TeensRule’ relate its content to both the male and female young population. In addition, the magazine would have colours that would resemble and become more eye catching to the male gender. My magazine target audience would be aimed to the same age group as my target audience to my magazine ‘TeensRule’ because, my magazine is targeted to the young population. For the male gender, the social and economic needs of the magazine would be in a relation to the common interests of the male gender. However my magazine will not stereotype the male gender, because my magazine only focuses on the boy interests. Finally, my magazine will not offend anyone of that ethnicity as my magazine content, will not offend the public, however anchor the public to read the magazine. Length: Different from my first magazine ‘TeensRule’, my second magazine ‘RockStars’ will have a length of roughly 30 to 40 page, although my magazine will be released fortnightly, the number of pages for this magazine will be 40 to 60 page. However, is may or may not be beneficial during the production process because, of the amount of paper used per issue and may have a later effect on the production. Furthermore, my magazine will have a page size of A4, but on the consequence my magazine will consist of 32 pages, including the front and back over of the magazine. Frequency: Monthly? Weekly? Fortnightly? My magazine would have a frequency of a fortnightly issue, because in comparison to my first magazine ‘TeensRule’ which is aimed to both the male and female gender, my second magazine is mainly aimed to only the male gender, because, my second magazine was inspired my the music magazine ‘RESPECT’. This would be an appropriate release of the magazine, as the male population would receive a planned update on the issue release of the magazine.
  • 3. Unit 13 – Planning and Pitching a Print based Media Product - Proposal Why? I chose this release issue date because of the high demand in production, however the low beneficial cost in comparison to a magazine issue that would be released weekly. I decided on creating a magazine that would be released every two weeks, would be interesting to the public because, of the 32 page issue, that is aimed mainly to my target audience of the male gender. Cost? Finally, my magazine would have a higher price from the first magazine ‘TeensRule’. My second magazine would have a price of £3.50, this is because of the higher number of pages. What could you develop further 1. Making a social media page Creating a linked source of my second magazines, will allow the interaction between the public and the magazine company with the continuous updates and background in the production process through, Facebook and Twitter 2. Making a website The link will be presented on the social media websites and also the front cover, back cover and double page spread of my magazine. This would act a constant reminder of the social interaction of the magazine and the public; in which the magazine website would contain, videos at concerts, interviews with popular artists (for example Birdman) and the daily news on the music world. 3. Making an app To allow accessible offline access to the magazine and the monthly issues other features that may attract the public, such as collaborations and competitions. 4. Making an poster Symbolise a banner that would introduce the public of my target audience to my magazine and be notified about the background, eg. Genre, Target Audience and Content type. 5. Position in marketplace Although this would be difficult at the start of any business, the market position would gradually increase depending on the interactions with popular artists as well as the genre music album on Apple Music, Itunes or Spotify.
