Mind map for magazine ideas
Mind map for M
Proposal for M
This is my proposal for ‘M’ magazine, in this proposal I have added a sample of a logo that I could use for my
magazine. I have also added different font examples and looked at all the details of my magazine. Some of the details
of the magazine that I looked at was the format, the audience and the content.
Proposal for E
This is my proposal for an idea of a magazine called ‘E’, in this proposal I looked at different features of the magazine.
One of the sections of my proposal was the ‘format’ magazine, this helped me to summarise and understand what my
magazine consisted of. Another section of my magazine was the ‘Style of approach’ in this section I looked at the style
of my magazine including the colours of the house style and the what they mean to the magazine. This helped me to
show what type of magazine it’s going to be and what type of content will be within the magazine.
Graphic layouts
These are my graphic
layouts for both my ideas
for magazine. I have
highlighted the house style
of each of the magazines
by making them fit into the
colour scheme. The layouts
are similar with a few
changes, this makes them
original and different to
each other and other
magazines.
Mood board for ‘M’
Colour scheme
The colour scheme I have decided for my magazine is green, black and white this is because these colours
aren’t aimed at a specific genre. I also think that the colours go well together and are good colours for a
music magazine.
Magazine inspirations
I have looked at different magazines that are similar to my idea of a music magazine. These included Q
magazine and Mojo as they are not entirely specific to a genre of music and are popular music
magazines.
Target Audience
My target audience are teenagers/ young adults so I looked at the lifestyle of the ‘Indie’ type of person
that would read my magazine. I gained some images of people at a festival because I believe that my
magazine would appeal to people who enjoy concerts and festivals. As well as, the picture on the top
right with the writing ‘When words fail, music speaks’ portrays the type of person that would read my
magazine is a great lover of music.
Artists
Finally in my mood board there is some pictures of music artists that would be included in my magazine
and would appeal to my target audience. This has helped me to understand the specific audience and
content that could be in my magazine.
Mood board reflection
Genre
My magazine won’t have a specific genre, this was inspired by Q magazine. I think this would appeal to
my audience as it means it can appeal to a wide range of people. My magazine will include new upcoming
artists as well artists who are in the charts.
Layout
The layout of my magazine is going to be similar to that of Q magazine but with a few different changes to
make the layout more personal to myself and the specific target audience of my magazine. From looking
at the front cover and double page spread of Q magazine I have decided to use a few of the conventions
of the magazine as well as add my own and change some too.
I will keep specific conventions like the logo, page number and issue date in the same location as Q,
which is in the corner of each page. As well as, I will make sure that the masthead is in the top left corner.
One of the conventions that I am going to change compared to Q is adding a drop capital, this is because
it will help me to break up the page and follow other magazine conventions. Another change that I may
make is to make my website link separate to my barcode.
I plan to make my magazine very consistent with the layout on each page as I believe this makes the
magazine looks professional and well put together.
Style
The colour scheme that I am going to use for my magazine is green, black and white. This is because these
colours all go well together as well as appeal to both genders. I also feel that these colours work well for a
music magazine as they are sleek and bold. I will achieve this style of my magazine by having the subtitles
of each page the same green colour. The main titles and text would be black and the backgrounds will be
white.
The colours were also inspired by a few albums from different
genres of music.
My Magazine
My Magazine
Content
The content of my magazine will range from interviews to a small section of celebrity gossip. My
magazine will have a wide range of content because it means that it can appeal to a wide range of
audience.
Some specific content that will be in my magazine is:
Album and film reviews- this is to appeal to film and music lovers this will bring in more income as I’m
reaching out to two industries.
Interviews- these will be with a wide range of people including new unknown artists and more popular
ones too. The main interview will be a double page spread in the middle of each edition and then
there will be smaller interviews scattered within the magazine.
Celebrity gossip- I have chosen to put a small section of celebrity gossip after looking at feedback I
have received I see that it may appeal to some of my audience.
Music industry news- This will appeal to all of my audience as they will be music lovers who will want
to know about new upcoming albums, tours etc.
Chart update- By including a chart update into my magazine it will help the audience to understand
what the most popular tracks of the month were. It will also be a good idea because it will help the
audience and magazine work out what the best artists will be to interview for new editions.
Music festival news and recommendations- The audience for my magazine will enjoy this section in
the summer months as they will most probably enjoy going to festivals and want to know what the
best ones for them will be.
My magazine
Audience
Age & gender
The age of my target audience is mainly people from the age of 16- 24 as this was the highest result from my research.
This helps me to be able to make sure that the content appeals to the target audience by making the language
suitable for this age range and choosing suitable stories to cover within the magazine.
There isn’t a specific gender with my audience but by looking at the results I can see that the main gender would be
female. This could highlight the type of advertisements that could be in my magazine. As well the competitions would
need to appeal to both genders. This is similar to my magazine of inspiration, Q as this magazine appeals to both
genders but they do focus on males where mine would appeal to females more.
Spending power
The research that I have conducted helped me to see the spending power of my target audience, I have come to the
conclusion that the most suitable price for my magazine would be ÂŁ3.50 because from mixed results I have come to
the conclusion that this would be the most suitable price to be able to print the magazine monthly with a good
amount of content.
Ethnicity
The ethnicity of my audience will be a wide range, this is because the magazine will start by selling in London, the
continue expanding through the UK, then eventually to a global selling magazine. This means the ethnicity of the
audience will be a wide range as the magazine expands.
Reason for reading magazine
The audiences reason for reading the magazine will be to be educated, informed and admiration. This is because their
passion for music will have them striving for more information of the industry. As well as they will admire the subjects
within the magazine.
My Magazine
Subscriptions offers
From my research and looking at my magazine of inspiration I have come to the conclusion
that the magazine should offer a subscription offer to the audience. This would appeal to
the target audience because this means that they would be able to save money. I found out
from my research results that my target audience are looking for good deals. So this
subscription offer would appeal to them. It could also mean that they do not need to go out
to the shops to buy the magazine as they can ensure that every edition of the magazine for
that year will be delivered to their door.
Appeal to readership
To make my magazine appeal to the readership I would run some competitions to win
tickets to festivals/ concerts or albums from certain artists. This would appeal to the
readership as they said they would be interested in free content within a magazine.
The stories that would be covered to make sure that my magazine appeals to the
readership is interviews with music artists as well album/ festival news. These would be
some of the double page spreads within my magazine. As well as to make sure that I reach
the needs of my readership I would have a section of celebrity gossip. This would be small
to make sure that the magazine still focuses on music but big enough to satisfy the
audience. I would also include a update on the most popular music throughout the month
and reviews with information on new films going out in the cinema.
Masthead Fonts
Masthead
The masthead for my magazine is simply M. This was inspired by Q magazine, as the M
stands for Music. It will be located on the top left hand corner, with a green, white and
black theme. It will be bold and stand out from the rest of the content on the front cover of
the magazine. Some font styles that I have considered are:
Mom’s Typewriter Amsterdam Graffiti Sketch Block
I think that the most suitable font would be Amsterdam Graffiti because it is the boldest
font, it would also be the most suitable font to be white on a green background. This is
because it would be the clearest as well as the most effective. Mom’s Typewriter would not
be suitable as it would not be bold enough as it is too thin. I also do not think that Sketch
Block would be suitable for my magazine because it is not filled in properly, this could
interfere with the boldness of the masthead. This is because the font and the background
are not the same colour so the background colour could appear too much through the text.
Front Cover Inspirations
Masthead:
The masthead in the top left hand
corner is big and bold to make sure
it stands out. I would repeat this for
my magazine but adapt it slightly
with my own design. The reason I
plan to repeat this design is because
I think the layout makes it clearer to
read the magazine.
Main Image:
The image on this front cover takes up
the whole page, with no background as it
is an extreme close up. This makes the
subject look powerful and contrasts
against the text. On my magazine I
wouldn’t have the image so close up,
because I would like to make room for
the cover lines.
Website:
The website for my magazine would
also be by the barcode. Unlike Q I
plan to put my link separate to my
logo by putting it underneath on its
own with social media symbols by it
too. This will make it stand out from
the barcode.
Main headlines:
The headline for this copy of magazine
is big and bold across the page. I am
going to take inspiration from this and
layer my headline on the top across
the page too. This is because it
highlights this is the most important
content within the magazine.
Puff Promotions:
On this specific copy the magazine
front cover has a puff promotion. I am
going to do this on my magazine too
but I will try to have a deal or
competition advertised for each copy.
This will help me to promote my
magazine and gain more readership.
Cover Lines:
The cover lines on this front cover
are around the subject in the
images in face. I think this is a good
layout as it does not take away the
importance of the subject. I will put
my cover lines on one side of the
image as this will be easier for the
audience to read them.
Double Page Spread Inspirations
Main image:
The main image of this copy was the
same picture as on the front cover. I
do not like this idea so I have
decided to have a different image
within the double page spread. But I
will repeat the layout of dedicating
a whole page to the main image.
Page number/ magazine
logo:
On the bottom of each page within
the magazine there is the magazine
logo, date issue and page number. I
am taking inspiration from this layout
and repeating for this magazine. This
will help me to make the layout
suitable and professional as well as
make it easier for the reader.
Drop capital:
Within the article there is a drop
capital, this is placed in the middle of
the article. This is unusual to most
layouts and does break up the huge
block of text. I will place my drop
capital at the beginning of the article
like the normal layout of a double
page spread. This will help my layout
look sleek and easy to read. It will
also help the editor to add all the
content on the page easily.
Title/ stand first:
The stand first for this specific double page
spread is two simple words from the article. I do
not think I will repeat this connotation because it
does not explain to the reader what the article is
about. I will add a quote
from the interview so that
the audience will know
what the interview is
about.
Columns:
To help break up the text of my article I
will lay it out in columns like this article.
But I will also add pictures within the text
that are relevant to the content. This will
help me to break up the content more. As
well as I will differentiate my questions
and answers by changing the colours of
the font for the questions and answer.
Hand-drawn Magazine Drafts
This is my hand –drawn draft, I focused on making sure the layout was appropriate for the
magazine. I took a few inspirations from the Q magazine layout.
Social Networks:
I placed the social network
symbols on the top right
hand corner. This makes
them stand out and visible
for the audience to see.
Masthead:
My masthead was
inspired by the Q one.
The colours of mine are
green, white and black
to match the colour
scheme. The strapline
for my magazine is
‘Music Matters.’ this will
be placed sideways to
the masthead.
Main Image:
The main image will be
behind the cover lines if
possible, this is to be able to
make the image bigger on
the front of the cover.
Website:
The website will be
underneath the barcode
as it is similar to the
layout of Q. But I have
placed it separate to the
barcode to make it stand
out.
Cover lines:
The cover lines will be placed
all around the sides of the
cover, this is inspired from Q
magazine.
Hand-drawn Magazine Drafts
Headline:
The headline of my double
page spread will be a good
quote from the interview.
Main image:
My main image is going to
take up most of the second
page, this is to gain more
attention to the subject.
Text:
The text will be in the middle
of the pages to make it stand
out. The questions will be
bold and green, the answers
will be black and normal.
Page number:
In the bottom of
the pages there is
the page numbers
and the M logo.
Quote:
There will be a
quote in a box
that relates to the
image.
Drop capital:
The drop capital
is located at the
top of the article
to make it stand
out.
Image:
There will be
another image of
the subject in
their normal
lifestyle.
Hand-drawn Magazine Drafts
These are my hand drawn drafts for my magazine ideas, I have decided to use
the colours of each magazine to highlight the house scheme.
Interview Draft
Here is my magazine interview draft, I have taken inspiration from Q magazine to think of suitable questions. I also
took in the personality of the subject and the things that the artist is doing recently to make the questions more
realistic.
To make sure the answers were as accurate as possible, I researched the artist to be able to provide realistic answers. I
looked at her biography and previous interviews with the artist to see the way she would answer questions.
LO2- Conclusion
In this learning outcome I generated ideas for an original magazine. I started this by creating two mind maps,
the first one had a few different ideas and what I wanted the magazine to be. My second mind map was a
more detailed one on the magazine idea that I thought was the most suitable.
After this I made proposals for the magazine ideas that I thought were the best and the most suitable to be
published. The proposals for the magazines included details such as the format, content, working title and
the audience for the magazine. I also included examples of the ideas for the logo, this helped me to make
the idea as clear and explained as possible. By making two proposals, I was able to compare the two ideas
and ensure that I was choosing the right idea for my magazine.
Once I had made the proposals I made graphic layouts and mood boards, this helped me to expand the idea
for the magazine and get a clearer picture on what the magazine is going to look like. The mood board also
allowed me to be able to start choosing what type of content and artists I wanted in the magazine.
I could then develop my ideas for the magazine broader. I did this by breaking into sections such as an in-
depth audience profile, the content I want to include and the genre of the magazine.
I decided to then look at a few different fonts for the masthead of the magazine, by having options for the
font it allowed me to gain opinions of others before choosing the correct font. When I was choosing the
fonts that I could possibly use I decided to look at bold fonts that linked to the ‘urban’ feel that I wanted my
magazine to have.
Q magazine was my inspiration for the front cover and double page spread of the magazine this is because
the magazine is very similar to my idea. By gaining inspiration from an existing product it allowed me to see
the standard that is expected when creating and editing the magazine.
The final steps for this learning outcome was making hand-drawn drafts and drafting the interview, by doing
this it allowed me to make sure that my magazine was going to be of a high standard. Finally by making
drafts I was able to ask opinions of the potential audience of the magazine to make sure that this was
suitable.

  • 3. Mind map for magazine ideas
  • 5. Proposal for M This is my proposal for ‘M’ magazine, in this proposal I have added a sample of a logo that I could use for my magazine. I have also added different font examples and looked at all the details of my magazine. Some of the details of the magazine that I looked at was the format, the audience and the content.
  • 6. Proposal for E This is my proposal for an idea of a magazine called ‘E’, in this proposal I looked at different features of the magazine. One of the sections of my proposal was the ‘format’ magazine, this helped me to summarise and understand what my magazine consisted of. Another section of my magazine was the ‘Style of approach’ in this section I looked at the style of my magazine including the colours of the house style and the what they mean to the magazine. This helped me to show what type of magazine it’s going to be and what type of content will be within the magazine.
  • 7. Graphic layouts These are my graphic layouts for both my ideas for magazine. I have highlighted the house style of each of the magazines by making them fit into the colour scheme. The layouts are similar with a few changes, this makes them original and different to each other and other magazines.
  • 8. Mood board for ‘M’
  • 9. Colour scheme The colour scheme I have decided for my magazine is green, black and white this is because these colours aren’t aimed at a specific genre. I also think that the colours go well together and are good colours for a music magazine. Magazine inspirations I have looked at different magazines that are similar to my idea of a music magazine. These included Q magazine and Mojo as they are not entirely specific to a genre of music and are popular music magazines. Target Audience My target audience are teenagers/ young adults so I looked at the lifestyle of the ‘Indie’ type of person that would read my magazine. I gained some images of people at a festival because I believe that my magazine would appeal to people who enjoy concerts and festivals. As well as, the picture on the top right with the writing ‘When words fail, music speaks’ portrays the type of person that would read my magazine is a great lover of music. Artists Finally in my mood board there is some pictures of music artists that would be included in my magazine and would appeal to my target audience. This has helped me to understand the specific audience and content that could be in my magazine. Mood board reflection
  • 10. Genre My magazine won’t have a specific genre, this was inspired by Q magazine. I think this would appeal to my audience as it means it can appeal to a wide range of people. My magazine will include new upcoming artists as well artists who are in the charts. Layout The layout of my magazine is going to be similar to that of Q magazine but with a few different changes to make the layout more personal to myself and the specific target audience of my magazine. From looking at the front cover and double page spread of Q magazine I have decided to use a few of the conventions of the magazine as well as add my own and change some too. I will keep specific conventions like the logo, page number and issue date in the same location as Q, which is in the corner of each page. As well as, I will make sure that the masthead is in the top left corner. One of the conventions that I am going to change compared to Q is adding a drop capital, this is because it will help me to break up the page and follow other magazine conventions. Another change that I may make is to make my website link separate to my barcode. I plan to make my magazine very consistent with the layout on each page as I believe this makes the magazine looks professional and well put together. Style The colour scheme that I am going to use for my magazine is green, black and white. This is because these colours all go well together as well as appeal to both genders. I also feel that these colours work well for a music magazine as they are sleek and bold. I will achieve this style of my magazine by having the subtitles of each page the same green colour. The main titles and text would be black and the backgrounds will be white. The colours were also inspired by a few albums from different genres of music. My Magazine
  • 11. My Magazine Content The content of my magazine will range from interviews to a small section of celebrity gossip. My magazine will have a wide range of content because it means that it can appeal to a wide range of audience. Some specific content that will be in my magazine is: Album and film reviews- this is to appeal to film and music lovers this will bring in more income as I’m reaching out to two industries. Interviews- these will be with a wide range of people including new unknown artists and more popular ones too. The main interview will be a double page spread in the middle of each edition and then there will be smaller interviews scattered within the magazine. Celebrity gossip- I have chosen to put a small section of celebrity gossip after looking at feedback I have received I see that it may appeal to some of my audience. Music industry news- This will appeal to all of my audience as they will be music lovers who will want to know about new upcoming albums, tours etc. Chart update- By including a chart update into my magazine it will help the audience to understand what the most popular tracks of the month were. It will also be a good idea because it will help the audience and magazine work out what the best artists will be to interview for new editions. Music festival news and recommendations- The audience for my magazine will enjoy this section in the summer months as they will most probably enjoy going to festivals and want to know what the best ones for them will be.
  • 12. My magazine Audience Age & gender The age of my target audience is mainly people from the age of 16- 24 as this was the highest result from my research. This helps me to be able to make sure that the content appeals to the target audience by making the language suitable for this age range and choosing suitable stories to cover within the magazine. There isn’t a specific gender with my audience but by looking at the results I can see that the main gender would be female. This could highlight the type of advertisements that could be in my magazine. As well the competitions would need to appeal to both genders. This is similar to my magazine of inspiration, Q as this magazine appeals to both genders but they do focus on males where mine would appeal to females more. Spending power The research that I have conducted helped me to see the spending power of my target audience, I have come to the conclusion that the most suitable price for my magazine would be ÂŁ3.50 because from mixed results I have come to the conclusion that this would be the most suitable price to be able to print the magazine monthly with a good amount of content. Ethnicity The ethnicity of my audience will be a wide range, this is because the magazine will start by selling in London, the continue expanding through the UK, then eventually to a global selling magazine. This means the ethnicity of the audience will be a wide range as the magazine expands. Reason for reading magazine The audiences reason for reading the magazine will be to be educated, informed and admiration. This is because their passion for music will have them striving for more information of the industry. As well as they will admire the subjects within the magazine.
  • 13. My Magazine Subscriptions offers From my research and looking at my magazine of inspiration I have come to the conclusion that the magazine should offer a subscription offer to the audience. This would appeal to the target audience because this means that they would be able to save money. I found out from my research results that my target audience are looking for good deals. So this subscription offer would appeal to them. It could also mean that they do not need to go out to the shops to buy the magazine as they can ensure that every edition of the magazine for that year will be delivered to their door. Appeal to readership To make my magazine appeal to the readership I would run some competitions to win tickets to festivals/ concerts or albums from certain artists. This would appeal to the readership as they said they would be interested in free content within a magazine. The stories that would be covered to make sure that my magazine appeals to the readership is interviews with music artists as well album/ festival news. These would be some of the double page spreads within my magazine. As well as to make sure that I reach the needs of my readership I would have a section of celebrity gossip. This would be small to make sure that the magazine still focuses on music but big enough to satisfy the audience. I would also include a update on the most popular music throughout the month and reviews with information on new films going out in the cinema.
  • 14. Masthead Fonts Masthead The masthead for my magazine is simply M. This was inspired by Q magazine, as the M stands for Music. It will be located on the top left hand corner, with a green, white and black theme. It will be bold and stand out from the rest of the content on the front cover of the magazine. Some font styles that I have considered are: Mom’s Typewriter Amsterdam Graffiti Sketch Block I think that the most suitable font would be Amsterdam Graffiti because it is the boldest font, it would also be the most suitable font to be white on a green background. This is because it would be the clearest as well as the most effective. Mom’s Typewriter would not be suitable as it would not be bold enough as it is too thin. I also do not think that Sketch Block would be suitable for my magazine because it is not filled in properly, this could interfere with the boldness of the masthead. This is because the font and the background are not the same colour so the background colour could appear too much through the text.
  • 15. Front Cover Inspirations Masthead: The masthead in the top left hand corner is big and bold to make sure it stands out. I would repeat this for my magazine but adapt it slightly with my own design. The reason I plan to repeat this design is because I think the layout makes it clearer to read the magazine. Main Image: The image on this front cover takes up the whole page, with no background as it is an extreme close up. This makes the subject look powerful and contrasts against the text. On my magazine I wouldn’t have the image so close up, because I would like to make room for the cover lines. Website: The website for my magazine would also be by the barcode. Unlike Q I plan to put my link separate to my logo by putting it underneath on its own with social media symbols by it too. This will make it stand out from the barcode. Main headlines: The headline for this copy of magazine is big and bold across the page. I am going to take inspiration from this and layer my headline on the top across the page too. This is because it highlights this is the most important content within the magazine. Puff Promotions: On this specific copy the magazine front cover has a puff promotion. I am going to do this on my magazine too but I will try to have a deal or competition advertised for each copy. This will help me to promote my magazine and gain more readership. Cover Lines: The cover lines on this front cover are around the subject in the images in face. I think this is a good layout as it does not take away the importance of the subject. I will put my cover lines on one side of the image as this will be easier for the audience to read them.
  • 16. Double Page Spread Inspirations Main image: The main image of this copy was the same picture as on the front cover. I do not like this idea so I have decided to have a different image within the double page spread. But I will repeat the layout of dedicating a whole page to the main image. Page number/ magazine logo: On the bottom of each page within the magazine there is the magazine logo, date issue and page number. I am taking inspiration from this layout and repeating for this magazine. This will help me to make the layout suitable and professional as well as make it easier for the reader. Drop capital: Within the article there is a drop capital, this is placed in the middle of the article. This is unusual to most layouts and does break up the huge block of text. I will place my drop capital at the beginning of the article like the normal layout of a double page spread. This will help my layout look sleek and easy to read. It will also help the editor to add all the content on the page easily. Title/ stand first: The stand first for this specific double page spread is two simple words from the article. I do not think I will repeat this connotation because it does not explain to the reader what the article is about. I will add a quote from the interview so that the audience will know what the interview is about. Columns: To help break up the text of my article I will lay it out in columns like this article. But I will also add pictures within the text that are relevant to the content. This will help me to break up the content more. As well as I will differentiate my questions and answers by changing the colours of the font for the questions and answer.
  • 17. Hand-drawn Magazine Drafts This is my hand –drawn draft, I focused on making sure the layout was appropriate for the magazine. I took a few inspirations from the Q magazine layout. Social Networks: I placed the social network symbols on the top right hand corner. This makes them stand out and visible for the audience to see. Masthead: My masthead was inspired by the Q one. The colours of mine are green, white and black to match the colour scheme. The strapline for my magazine is ‘Music Matters.’ this will be placed sideways to the masthead. Main Image: The main image will be behind the cover lines if possible, this is to be able to make the image bigger on the front of the cover. Website: The website will be underneath the barcode as it is similar to the layout of Q. But I have placed it separate to the barcode to make it stand out. Cover lines: The cover lines will be placed all around the sides of the cover, this is inspired from Q magazine.
  • 18. Hand-drawn Magazine Drafts Headline: The headline of my double page spread will be a good quote from the interview. Main image: My main image is going to take up most of the second page, this is to gain more attention to the subject. Text: The text will be in the middle of the pages to make it stand out. The questions will be bold and green, the answers will be black and normal. Page number: In the bottom of the pages there is the page numbers and the M logo. Quote: There will be a quote in a box that relates to the image. Drop capital: The drop capital is located at the top of the article to make it stand out. Image: There will be another image of the subject in their normal lifestyle.
  • 19. Hand-drawn Magazine Drafts These are my hand drawn drafts for my magazine ideas, I have decided to use the colours of each magazine to highlight the house scheme.
  • 20. Interview Draft Here is my magazine interview draft, I have taken inspiration from Q magazine to think of suitable questions. I also took in the personality of the subject and the things that the artist is doing recently to make the questions more realistic. To make sure the answers were as accurate as possible, I researched the artist to be able to provide realistic answers. I looked at her biography and previous interviews with the artist to see the way she would answer questions.
  • 21. LO2- Conclusion In this learning outcome I generated ideas for an original magazine. I started this by creating two mind maps, the first one had a few different ideas and what I wanted the magazine to be. My second mind map was a more detailed one on the magazine idea that I thought was the most suitable. After this I made proposals for the magazine ideas that I thought were the best and the most suitable to be published. The proposals for the magazines included details such as the format, content, working title and the audience for the magazine. I also included examples of the ideas for the logo, this helped me to make the idea as clear and explained as possible. By making two proposals, I was able to compare the two ideas and ensure that I was choosing the right idea for my magazine. Once I had made the proposals I made graphic layouts and mood boards, this helped me to expand the idea for the magazine and get a clearer picture on what the magazine is going to look like. The mood board also allowed me to be able to start choosing what type of content and artists I wanted in the magazine. I could then develop my ideas for the magazine broader. I did this by breaking into sections such as an in- depth audience profile, the content I want to include and the genre of the magazine. I decided to then look at a few different fonts for the masthead of the magazine, by having options for the font it allowed me to gain opinions of others before choosing the correct font. When I was choosing the fonts that I could possibly use I decided to look at bold fonts that linked to the ‘urban’ feel that I wanted my magazine to have. Q magazine was my inspiration for the front cover and double page spread of the magazine this is because the magazine is very similar to my idea. By gaining inspiration from an existing product it allowed me to see the standard that is expected when creating and editing the magazine. The final steps for this learning outcome was making hand-drawn drafts and drafting the interview, by doing this it allowed me to make sure that my magazine was going to be of a high standard. Finally by making drafts I was able to ask opinions of the potential audience of the magazine to make sure that this was suitable.
