Unit 30 – UK Media Publishing - Proposal
Format: Magazine
I am going to product a music magazine that covers the Indie genre of music. The magazine will
cover new less known artists as well as popular famous artists. I will produce a double page
spread and front cover to explore the most suitable layout and house style for my magazine. The
front cover and double page spread will act as part of a larger promotional project for the
magazine.
Working Title:
My working title is ‘E’ although this could change. This is because the E stands for entertainment.
I have been exploring many different fonts for the masthead; one of the examples of fonts I have
looked at is Fun Sized. This is because it is bold and good to show the ‘entertainment’ side of my
magazine.
The format of my magazine will be very similar to that of Q; this is because the logo will be on the
top left hand corner of the front page. Another way the format of my magazine is similar to Q is
the main image on the front cover takes up most of the page with the cover lines surrounding it
on the edge of the magazine. A way that the main image will be different to Q is that the main
image will be colour whereas on Q then main image is in black and white. The format on the
pages within the magazine are all similar as they follow the house style this is also very similar to
Q magazine. The colours within the house style of the magazine are orange and black. These will
be shown in all the features of the magazine including font, headlines, masthead and page
numbers.
Genre:
The sub-genre of my music magazine is going to be Indie this is because I can cover many
different genres of music. My magazine will be very open to different types of music including
new upcoming artists and popular artists too. The main competitor for my magazine will be Q as
it is also an Indie magazine that covers many types of music.
Content:
E magazine will be full of different types of content including celebrity gossip, interviews, images
and album reviews. The interviews will feature different types of artists ranging from bands,
duets and solo artists. This can be either small less known artists or bigger mainstream artists. By
interviewing a wide range of people it helps me to attract and appeal to the audience. But also by
interviewing bigger artists it allows me to raise the ‘star appeal’ of my magazine, which also helps
me to increase the readership of my magazine.
Style or Approach:
The denotation of the colour scheme of my magazine will be orange and black. The colour orange
was chosen because this can appeal to both genders of audience. The colour orange also
represents creativity and enthusiasm. The colour black makes my magazine look professional and
sleek. As well as makes the text easier to read and can be associated with power. Then the
background of my pages will be white to make sure that all my content is clear and easy to read.
I am going to use Photoshop to construct the magazine pages because it will help me to edit all
my images in the correct manner. Using Photoshop will also help me to make sure that the layout
of the pages is appropriate whilst allowing me to add effects to my text and content.
Some of the tools in Photoshop that will be particularly useful for constructing E magazine are the
pen tool to arrange and shape the text as well as the rulers to make sure that everything is
professional and an appropriate size for the page.
Audience:
The audience is mixed with a slightly stronger appeal to the male audience. They are generally
the age of 16-24 years although it could appeal to a few older. The audience will be creative
people either students studying creative style subjects or in a creative job. Music will play a huge
part of their lives and they could visit music festivals and go to concerts a lot in their extra time.
They may play an instrument too as their passion for music could be very strong.
The ethnicity of the audience will not be specific, as anyone can have a passion for music. And as
my magazine expands throughout the years the ethnicity of the audience will expand.
Length:
The length of my magazine will be affected by the amount of content within the magazine and
the season within the year. This is because in the summer the magazine will cover stories from
music festivals, which results in more content. The general number of pages for the magazine will
be about 70. The size will be A4 as this is the stereotypical size for a magazine and makes reading
the magazine easier for the audience as it will be easier to hold.
Frequency:
The frequency of my magazine is weekly this is because it means that the content can go out to
the audience as quickly as possible. It could also help me to make sure that my content is always
strong and up to date. The cost for the magazine will be £1.50 this will cover all the printing costs

Proposal E magazine

  • 1. Unit 30 – UK Media Publishing - Proposal Name: Carmel Seager Candidate Number: 4217 Center Number: 64315
  • 2. Unit 30 – UK Media Publishing - Proposal Format: Magazine I am going to product a music magazine that covers the Indie genre of music. The magazine will cover new less known artists as well as popular famous artists. I will produce a double page spread and front cover to explore the most suitable layout and house style for my magazine. The front cover and double page spread will act as part of a larger promotional project for the magazine. Working Title: My working title is ‘E’ although this could change. This is because the E stands for entertainment. I have been exploring many different fonts for the masthead; one of the examples of fonts I have looked at is Fun Sized. This is because it is bold and good to show the ‘entertainment’ side of my magazine. The format of my magazine will be very similar to that of Q; this is because the logo will be on the top left hand corner of the front page. Another way the format of my magazine is similar to Q is the main image on the front cover takes up most of the page with the cover lines surrounding it on the edge of the magazine. A way that the main image will be different to Q is that the main image will be colour whereas on Q then main image is in black and white. The format on the pages within the magazine are all similar as they follow the house style this is also very similar to Q magazine. The colours within the house style of the magazine are orange and black. These will be shown in all the features of the magazine including font, headlines, masthead and page numbers. Genre: The sub-genre of my music magazine is going to be Indie this is because I can cover many different genres of music. My magazine will be very open to different types of music including new upcoming artists and popular artists too. The main competitor for my magazine will be Q as it is also an Indie magazine that covers many types of music. Content: E magazine will be full of different types of content including celebrity gossip, interviews, images and album reviews. The interviews will feature different types of artists ranging from bands, duets and solo artists. This can be either small less known artists or bigger mainstream artists. By interviewing a wide range of people it helps me to attract and appeal to the audience. But also by interviewing bigger artists it allows me to raise the ‘star appeal’ of my magazine, which also helps me to increase the readership of my magazine. Style or Approach: The denotation of the colour scheme of my magazine will be orange and black. The colour orange was chosen because this can appeal to both genders of audience. The colour orange also represents creativity and enthusiasm. The colour black makes my magazine look professional and sleek. As well as makes the text easier to read and can be associated with power. Then the background of my pages will be white to make sure that all my content is clear and easy to read. I am going to use Photoshop to construct the magazine pages because it will help me to edit all my images in the correct manner. Using Photoshop will also help me to make sure that the layout of the pages is appropriate whilst allowing me to add effects to my text and content. Some of the tools in Photoshop that will be particularly useful for constructing E magazine are the pen tool to arrange and shape the text as well as the rulers to make sure that everything is professional and an appropriate size for the page. Audience: The audience is mixed with a slightly stronger appeal to the male audience. They are generally the age of 16-24 years although it could appeal to a few older. The audience will be creative people either students studying creative style subjects or in a creative job. Music will play a huge part of their lives and they could visit music festivals and go to concerts a lot in their extra time. They may play an instrument too as their passion for music could be very strong. The ethnicity of the audience will not be specific, as anyone can have a passion for music. And as my magazine expands throughout the years the ethnicity of the audience will expand. Length: The length of my magazine will be affected by the amount of content within the magazine and the season within the year. This is because in the summer the magazine will cover stories from music festivals, which results in more content. The general number of pages for the magazine will be about 70. The size will be A4 as this is the stereotypical size for a magazine and makes reading the magazine easier for the audience as it will be easier to hold. Frequency: The frequency of my magazine is weekly this is because it means that the content can go out to the audience as quickly as possible. It could also help me to make sure that my content is always strong and up to date. The cost for the magazine will be £1.50 this will cover all the printing costs
