LSC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Angelo State and Eastern New Mexico are tied atop the Lone Star Conference standings at 12-2 in league
games.
LSC play continues this week with one league contest Tuesday and five on both Thursday and Saturday. The
Angelo State at Tarleton State match-up on Saturday is part of the NCAA Division II Basketball Showcase and
will be broadcast on ESPN3.
The LSC women are 126-104 overall. The women’s squads are currently 14-9 combined against the
Heartland, and 9-9 versus RMAC teams, which are the other conferences in the NCAA South Central Region.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
OFFENSIVE
Artaejah Gay, Texas A&M University-Commerce, JR, Forward, Cedar Hill, Texas, Cedar Hill HS
Gay was an offensive juggernaut for the Lions in both of their wins last week. She scored 20 points in 22 minutes
against WNMU, her fifth game of the season with at least 20 points. She also had a block and two steals on
the defensive end and pulled down six rebounds against the Mustangs. She followed that with a 19-point
performance against ENMU, helping the Lions to an 18-point upset over the league-leading Greyhounds. Gay
also had a block and two steals. She is sixth in the conference in scoring, sixth in field goal percentage and
fourth in blocked shots.
DEFENSIVE
Brianna Wise, Texas A&M University-Commerce, JR, Forward, Desoto, Texas, Desoto HS
Wise was an impact on both sides of the ball for the Lions in their wins last week. She had two blocks as part
of the defense that held WNMU to 31 percent shooting. She was also the lead facilitator, dishing out a career-
high six assists in the game. Wise followed that with a strong performance against league-leading Eastern New
Mexico. She scored a career-high 22 points with three assists and three steals. She was part of the defense that
held the Greyhounds scoreless for six and a half minutes to start the second half and held them to just seven
points in the quarter and 23 percent shooting in the second half. Wise used her length to contest shots and
alter the Greyhound offense while guarding multiple positions on the floor. She also had six defensive rebounds
in the Lions 18-point win over ENMU.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Jordan Gutierrez, Western New Mexico, went off for her second 30-point game of the season tallying 32
points, making 9-17 from the field, 2-4 from three and a perfect 12-12 at the charity stripe in the game against
Tarleton State. She also added five assists and two steals. It was the sixth time this season that she has gone
for at least 20 points in a game. In addition, Gutierrez now has two of the top three scoring games in the
conference this season and following her big performance, she is now tied for the LSC lead in points per game
at 17.9. Gutierrez added 17 points, two rebounds, four assists and a steal versus Texas A&M-Commerce. For
the week she averaged 24.5 points, 4.5 assists, 1.5 steals and made 15 field goals, making 40 percent from the
field.
Niva Taito, UT Permian Basin, carried the Falcons in both games, leading the team with 22 points against
West Texas A&M and coming back to score 26 against Texas Woman’s. She hit 14-14 from the free throw line
with four assists and four steals against the Pioneers.
Ikpeaku Iwobi, Tarleton State University, enjoyed the best week of her senior season last week as the
forward from Houston averaged 18.0 points per game and hit game-tying layup in overtime to force a second
OT period against Eastern New Mexico Thursday night. Iwobi scored 20 points and grabbed 13 boards against
the Greyhounds before following up with a 16-point performance on .857 shooting from the floor in just 17
minutes of action against Western New Mexico Saturday.
Taylor Dorsey, Angelo State University, led the No. 13 Belles in scoring with 17.5 points per game in two wins
over Cameron and Midwestern State. She scored 17 versus Cameron and 18 against Midwestern State while
hitting 48.3 percent from the field. She averaged 4.0 assists per game and 5.0 rebounds. The senior also hit 40
percent from 3-point land.
Sarina Johnson, Eastern New Mexico University, registered one her strongest weeks of the season, as the
Greyhounds hit the road to face Tarleton State and Texas A&M-Commerce. On Thursday, she poured in a
career-best 22 points, to lead Eastern back from an eight-point deficit against the TexAnns. The contest marked
the fifth time ENMU won after trailing by at least seven, and snapped a 14-game road losing streak to Tarleton
State. The junior guard was a near-perfect seven-for-eight at the free-throw line and scored 14 of her points in
the second half. Against the Lions, Johnson poured in 12 points and connected on three-treys.
Sasha Watson, West Texas A&M University, averaged 13.5 points in a pair of wins for the Lady Buffs this
week, extending the winning streak to four games. Watson went a team-best 11 of 15 from the field (.733) with
13 assists and eight steals. She scored 19 points in the road win at UT Permian Basin and followed with eight
points and a season-high eight assists in the 80-55 win over Texas Woman’s Saturday. Watson has recorded
four steals in each of the past three games and has had five or more assists each game during the stretch.
Jasmine Prophet, Angelo State University, recorded a career high 17 rebounds and helped ASU hold
opponents to 31.9-percent from the field. The senior recorded her fourth double-double of the season with
13 points and 17 rebounds against Midwestern State. She averaged 12.0 rebounds last week in two wins.
The Jackson, Mississippi native grabbed 10 offensive rebounds and 14 defensive rebound with 11 defensive

rebounds coming versus MSU. Opponents only scored 58.5 points per game against the Belles.
Mackenzie Hailey, Tarleton State University, led the TexAnns with 10.5 rebounds per game, two blocks
and three steals last week. The sophomore also averaged 17.5 points per game with a 16-point, 16-rebound,
5-assist performance in just 23 minutes against Western New Mexico Saturday.
Emily Spector, Texas Woman’s University, notched her sixth career double-double with 20 points and a game-
high 10 rebounds in a 78-74 win at UT Permian Basin. The senior forward snagged seven defensive boards and a
pair of steals while containing the Falcon shooting to 38-percent for the game. Spector again scored in double
digits at West Texas A&M and grabbed a team-high five rebounds. For the week, Spector averaged 15 points,
7.5 boards, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals.
Eliza Martinez, Eastern New Mexico University, led a defensive effort which allowed ENMU to split a key
Lone Star Conference road trip at Tarleton State and Texas A&M-Commerce. Her efforts helped the Greyhounds
go double overtime to earn their first road win over the TexAnns since 2000. Martinez had nine defensive
rebounds, three steals and a blocked shot in the game.
Maddison Wild, West Texas A&M University, continued to show dominance inside for the Lady Buffs as she
paced the team averaging 18.5 points in a pair of wins this week. Wild tallied 14 points on 5 of 9 from the field
with four free throws and four rebounds for 14 points at UT Permian Basin and followed with a career-high 23
points tying her career-best on 9 of 14 from the field in the 80-55 win over Texas Woman’s. Wild buried two
triples in the game and three free throws, while recording seven rebounds, six on the defensive end, two blocks
and one steal. She recorded two blocks, one steal and ten of her 11 rebounds were on the defensive end this
week.

Angelo State
The Belles improved to 18-2 overall and 12-2 in the LSC after wins over Midwestern State and Cameron.
ASU held the two opponents to just 31.9 percent from the field. Jasmine Prophet recorded a career high 17
rebounds in the win over Midwestern State and averaged 12.0 for the week. Taylor Dorsey averaged 17.5 points
per game and is No. 3 in the LSC in scoring at 17.3 per game. ASU will hit the road to face Texas A&M-Commerce
and Tarleton State this week.
Cameron
0-2 last week.
Eastern New Mexico
The Eastern New Mexico women’s basketball team closed the first week of February tied with Angelo State for
first place in the Lone Star Conference after a key road trip. Last Thursday, the Hounds went double overtime
to post their first road win over Tarleton State since the 2000 season. The contest also improved the Hounds
to 3-0 in overtime this season and marked the first double-overtime win since a decision over Midwestern
State on February 12, 2004. On Saturday, ENMU suffered its second road loss of the season against Texas A&M-
Commerce. The setback snapped a seven-game win streak on the road, which included back-to-back overtime
wins against Angelo State and TSU. The Greyhounds have already matched the team record for LSC wins in
a season at 12, while their 16 overall wins are the most since a 16-12 campaign in 2003-04. This week, the
Hounds will host Western New Mexico and Texas Woman’s.
Midwestern State
1-1 last week.
Tarleton State
Tarleton went 1-1 last week and will now wrap up their home schedule with games against Texas A&M-Kingsville
and Angelo State this weekend.
Texas A&M-Commerce
The Lions won both of their games in commanding fashion last week with a 92-65 win against Western New
Mexico on Thursday and knocking off conference-leading Eastern New Mexico 85-67 on Saturday. The Lions are
tied for third in the conference. A&M-C leads the nation in free throws made. The Lions lead the conference in
rebounds, are third in scoring, and second in free throw percentage. A&M-C returns to action against co-leader
Angelo State on Thursday and Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday.

1-1 last week.
Texas Woman’s
The Pioneers hung on for a 78-74 victory at UT Permian Basin Thursday and fell 80-55 at West Texas A&M.
UT Permian Basin
UT Permian Basin dropped a pair of games against West Texas A&M and Texas Woman’s this past week. The
Falcons nearly turned a 19 point deficit against the Pioneers around, pulling within one possession in the fourth
quarter. Niva Taito carried the Falcons in both games, leading the team with 22 points against West Texas A&M
and coming back to score 26 against Texas Woman’s. She hit 14-14 from the free throw line with four assists
and four steals against the Pioneers.
West Texas A&M
The Lady Buffs ran their winning streak to four games as they won 69-55 at UT Permian Basin on Tuesday and at
home against Texas Woman’s on Saturday, 80-55...WT has not trailed in the last three games and not for the last
156:35 of game time, dating back to a 12-10 score in the first quarter at Eastern New Mexico on Jan. 26...WT

For the week, senior Maddison Wild continued to shine as she led the team averaging 18.5 points per game and
5.5 rebounds per game...Wild went 14 of 23 from the field (.609), 2 of 4 from range and 7 of 9 from the line for
a .778 clip. She pulled down 11 rebounds, including ten defensively with one assist, two blocks and one steal...
Wild had a career-high 23 points in the win over Texas Woman’s Saturday...Senior Sasha Watson averaged 13.5
points per game on a team-high 11 of 15 from the field (.733), while recording 13 assists and eight steals...She
had eight assists against Texas Woman’s which was a season-high, while recording four steals in each of the last
three games...WT blistered the nets shooing .587 for the week on 54 of 92, while going 8 of 22 from beyond
the arc and 33 of 44 from the line (.750)...WT averaged 29 rebounds per game, but held the opposition to just
22 per contest...WT averaged 74.5 points per game and held UTPB/TWU to 55.0 points per game, while the
oppositions shot 37 of 95 from the field (.389), 8 of 31 from 3 and 28 of 38 from the line (.737)...WT continues
its three-game home stand this week with Cameron and Midwestern State visiting Thursday and Saturday...WT
head coach Kristen Mattio improved to 45-11 overall and 23-7 in Lone Star Conference regular season play.
Western New Mexico
It was another big week for Jordan Gutierrez as she reached 30 points for the second time this season. In
addition to her strong offensive performance, Jade Botelho added 30 points and Keshaun Clark tallied 20 points
and 11 rebounds. Gutierrez went off for her second 30-point game of the season tallying 32 points, making
9-17 from the field, 2-4 from three and a perfect 12-12 at the charity stripe in the game against Tarleton
State. She also added five assists and two steals. It was the sixth time this season that she has gone for at
least 20 points in a game. In addition, Gutierrez now has two of the top three scoring games in the conference
this season and following her big performance, she is now tied for the LSC lead in points per game at 17.9.
Gutierrez added 17 points, two rebounds, four assists and a steal versus Texas A&M-Commerce. For the week
she averaged 24.5 points, 4.5 assists, 1.5 steals and made 15 field goals, making 40 percent from the field.

  • 1. LSC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL Angelo State and Eastern New Mexico are tied atop the Lone Star Conference standings at 12-2 in league games. LSC play continues this week with one league contest Tuesday and five on both Thursday and Saturday. The Angelo State at Tarleton State match-up on Saturday is part of the NCAA Division II Basketball Showcase and will be broadcast on ESPN3. The LSC women are 126-104 overall. The women’s squads are currently 14-9 combined against the Heartland, and 9-9 versus RMAC teams, which are the other conferences in the NCAA South Central Region. PLAYERS OF THE WEEK OFFENSIVE Artaejah Gay, Texas A&M University-Commerce, JR, Forward, Cedar Hill, Texas, Cedar Hill HS Gay was an offensive juggernaut for the Lions in both of their wins last week. She scored 20 points in 22 minutes against WNMU, her fifth game of the season with at least 20 points. She also had a block and two steals on the defensive end and pulled down six rebounds against the Mustangs. She followed that with a 19-point performance against ENMU, helping the Lions to an 18-point upset over the league-leading Greyhounds. Gay also had a block and two steals. She is sixth in the conference in scoring, sixth in field goal percentage and fourth in blocked shots. DEFENSIVE Brianna Wise, Texas A&M University-Commerce, JR, Forward, Desoto, Texas, Desoto HS Wise was an impact on both sides of the ball for the Lions in their wins last week. She had two blocks as part of the defense that held WNMU to 31 percent shooting. She was also the lead facilitator, dishing out a career- high six assists in the game. Wise followed that with a strong performance against league-leading Eastern New Mexico. She scored a career-high 22 points with three assists and three steals. She was part of the defense that held the Greyhounds scoreless for six and a half minutes to start the second half and held them to just seven points in the quarter and 23 percent shooting in the second half. For the week she averaged 24.5 points, 4.5 assists, 1.5 steals and made 15 field goals, making 40 percent from the field. Niva Taito, UT Permian Basin, carried the Falcons in both games, leading the team with 22 points against West Texas A&M and coming back to score 26 against Texas Woman’s. She hit 14-14 from the free throw line with four assists and four steals against the Pioneers. Ikpeaku Iwobi, Tarleton State University, enjoyed the best week of her senior season last week as the forward from Houston averaged 18.0 points per game and hit game-tying layup in overtime to force a second OT period against Eastern New Mexico Thursday night. Iwobi scored 20 points and grabbed 13 boards against the Greyhounds before following up with a 16-point performance on .857 shooting from the floor in just 17 minutes of action against Western New Mexico Saturday. Taylor Dorsey, Angelo State University, led the No. 13 Belles in scoring with 17.5 points per game in two wins over Cameron and Midwestern State. She scored 17 versus Cameron and 18 against Midwestern State while hitting 48.3 percent from the field. She averaged 4.0 assists per game and 5.0 rebounds. The senior also hit 40 percent from 3-point land. Sarina Johnson, Eastern New Mexico University, registered one her strongest weeks of the season, as the Greyhounds hit the road to face Tarleton State and Texas A&M-Commerce. On Thursday, she poured in a career-best 22 points, to lead Eastern back from an eight-point deficit against the TexAnns. The contest marked the fifth time ENMU won after trailing by at least seven, and snapped a 14-game road losing streak to Tarleton State. The junior guard was a near-perfect seven-for-eight at the free-throw line and scored 14 of her points in the second half. Against the Lions, Johnson poured in 12 points and connected on three-treys. Sasha Watson, West Texas A&M University, averaged 13.5 points in a pair of wins for the Lady Buffs this week, extending the winning streak to four games. Watson went a team-best 11 of 15 from the field (.733) with 13 assists and eight steals. She scored 19 points in the road win at UT Permian Basin and followed with eight points and a season-high eight assists in the 80-55 win over Texas Woman’s Saturday. Watson has recorded four steals in each of the past three games and has had five or more assists each game during the stretch. Jasmine Prophet, Angelo State University, recorded a career high 17 rebounds and helped ASU hold opponents to 31.9-percent from the field. The sophomore also averaged 17.5 points per game with a 16-point, 16-rebound, 5-assist performance in just 23 minutes against Western New Mexico Saturday. Emily Spector, Texas Woman’s University, notched her sixth career double-double with 20 points and a game- high 10 rebounds in a 78-74 win at UT Permian Basin. The senior forward snagged seven defensive boards and a pair of steals while containing the Falcon shooting to 38-percent for the game. Spector again scored in double digits at West Texas A&M and grabbed a team-high five rebounds. For the week, Spector averaged 15 points, 7.5 boards, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals. Eliza Martinez, Eastern New Mexico University, led a defensive effort which allowed ENMU to split a key Lone Star Conference road trip at Tarleton State and Texas A&M-Commerce. Her efforts helped the Greyhounds go double overtime to earn their first road win over the TexAnns since 2000. Martinez had nine defensive rebounds, three steals and a blocked shot in the game. Maddison Wild, West Texas A&M University, continued to show dominance inside for the Lady Buffs as she paced the team averaging 18.5 points in a pair of wins this week. Wild tallied 14 points on 5 of 9 from the field with four free throws and four rebounds for 14 points at UT Permian Basin and followed with a career-high 23 points tying her career-best on 9 of 14 from the field in the 80-55 win over Texas Woman’s. Wild buried two triples in the game and three free throws, while recording seven rebounds, six on the defensive end, two blocks and one steal. She recorded two blocks, one steal and ten of her 11 rebounds were on the defensive end this week. LSC NOTES (Submitted by LSC SID’s) Angelo State The Belles improved to 18-2 overall and 12-2 in the LSC after wins over Midwestern State and Cameron. ASU held the two opponents to just 31.9 percent from the field. Jasmine Prophet recorded a career high 17 rebounds in the win over Midwestern State and averaged 12.0 for the week. Taylor Dorsey averaged 17.5 points per game and is No. 3 in the LSC in scoring at 17.3 per game. ASU will hit the road to face Texas A&M-Commerce and Tarleton State this week. Cameron 0-2 last week. Eastern New Mexico The Eastern New Mexico women’s basketball team closed the first week of February tied with Angelo State for first place in the Lone Star Conference after a key road trip. Last Thursday, the Hounds went double overtime to post their first road win over Tarleton State since the 2000 season. The contest also improved the Hounds to 3-0 in overtime this season and marked the first double-overtime win since a decision over Midwestern State on February 12, 2004. On Saturday, ENMU suffered its second road loss of the season against Texas A&M- Commerce. The setback snapped a seven-game win streak on the road, which included back-to-back overtime wins against Angelo State and TSU. The Greyhounds have already matched the team record for LSC wins in a season at 12, while their 16 overall wins are the most since a 16-12 campaign in 2003-04. This week, the Hounds will host Western New Mexico and Texas Woman’s. Midwestern State 1-1 last week. Tarleton State Tarleton went 1-1 last week and will now wrap up their home schedule with games against Texas A&M-Kingsville and Angelo State this weekend. Texas A&M-Commerce The Lions won both of their games in commanding fashion last week with a 92-65 win against Western New Mexico on Thursday and knocking off conference-leading Eastern New Mexico 85-67 on Saturday. The Lions are tied for third in the conference. A&M-C leads the nation in free throws made. The Lions lead the conference in rebounds, are third in scoring, and second in free throw percentage. A&M-C returns to action against co-leader Angelo State on Thursday and Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday. Texas A&M-Kingsville 1-1 last week. Texas Woman’s The Pioneers hung on for a 78-74 victory at UT Permian Basin Thursday and fell 80-55 at West Texas A&M.
