LSC MEN’S BASKETBALL
Tarleton State, UT Permian Basin and West Texas A&M started Lone Star Conference play with 2-0 league
records.
Angelo State remains undefeated in non-conference action at 5-0.
Five LSC games are on the schedule this week with one Tuesday, three Thursday and two contests on
Saturday.
The LSC men have a 60-22 overall record so far this season. In the NCAA South Central Region, the men’s
teams are currently 17-4 combined versus Heartland Conference teams and 13-4 against the Rocky Mountain
Athletic Conference.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
OFFENSIVE
Ridell Camidge, Tarleton State University, JR, Guard, Wilmington, NC, New Hanover HS
Camidge averaged 17 points on the week and both of his performances helped No. 16 Tarleton State defeat
previous one-loss conference teams in Midwestern State and Cameron. In the win over MSU, he hit big shot
after big shot. Camidge led the comeback in erasing a 9-point second-half deficit by going on a 7-0 run by
himself – including a 4-point play that gave the Texans the lead for good with nine minutes to go. He had 15
points on 4-10 shooting from behind the arc and four rebounds and four assists. Against Cameron, Camidge
scored 15 of his game-high 19 points in the first half while draining a career-best five 3-pointers and grabbing
a career-high eight rebounds. For the week, he shot 44 percent from the floor, connected on 47 percent on
three’s (9-19), shot 83 percent from the free-throw line, and averaged six rebounds and 3.5 assists.
DEFENSIVE
Romond Jenkins, Tarleton State University, SR, Forward, Midwest City, OK, Douglass HS
Jenkins posted a pair of double-doubles in No. 16 Tarleton State’s wins over Midwestern State and Cameron. In
the win over MSU, Jenkins, who finished with 12 points and 13 rebounds, scored eight of his 12 points in a 3:30
span in the second half and it allowed Tarleton to build a 58-52 lead. He also grabbed seven of his 13 rebounds
in the final seven minutes of the game to keep possession in Tarleton’s hands. Jenkins’ biggest contribution,
however, might have been what he was able to limit MSU to offensively. The Mustangs shot a season-worst 27
percent while scoring a season-low 56 points and also held Igor Ibaka, the reigning LSC Defensive Player of the
Week who came in averaging 11.7 points and 7.4 rebounds, to zero points and six rebounds as he battled foul
trouble against Jenkins all game. He also blocked three shots against the Mustangs. Against Cameron, Jenkins
scored 12 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and blocked a career-high four shots. The senior limited the Aggies
to season lows in points (60) and field goal percentage (32.3). For the week, Jenkins averaged 12 points, 12
rebounds, 3.5 blocks and 2 assists while shooting 60 percent from the floor. When Jenkins was on the floor for
61 minutes in the two games, Tarleton outscored opponents by 19 points. Tarleton improved to 4-0 in games
that Jenkins has a double-double.

Trey Sumpter, Texas A&M University - Kingsville, in the lone game of the week for the Javelinas, went off for
29 points as he shot 65% from the floor, 60% from beyond the arc and 50% from the free throw line in the 79-64
win over St. Mary’s. Sumpter set new career highs with 29 points and six made three-point field goals made in
a single game.

out of Chicago turned in 45 total points for the week averaging 22.5 points per game. He first marked a season
high 19 points against St. Mary’s then eclipsed it two days later with 26 points against St. Edward’s. The junior

the Falcons with 21 points two days later over the Mustangs, connecting on 8-13 from the field with eight
more rebounds. Francis leads all Falcons on the season with 21 ppg on 63.9 percent shooting on all field goal

the game into overtime against Cameron. Albert shot 11-of-12 from the free throw line last week. He also made

LSC Men's Basketball Weekly Release (12/05/16)

  • 1. LSC MEN’S BASKETBALL Tarleton State, UT Permian Basin and West Texas A&M started Lone Star Conference play with 2-0 league records. Angelo State remains undefeated in non-conference action at 5-0. Five LSC games are on the schedule this week with one Tuesday, three Thursday and two contests on Saturday. The LSC men have a 60-22 overall record so far this season. In the NCAA South Central Region, the men’s teams are currently 17-4 combined versus Heartland Conference teams and 13-4 against the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. PLAYERS OF THE WEEK OFFENSIVE Ridell Camidge, Tarleton State University, JR, Guard, Wilmington, NC, New Hanover HS Camidge averaged 17 points on the week and both of his performances helped No. 16 Tarleton State defeat previous one-loss conference teams in Midwestern State and Cameron. In the win over MSU, he hit big shot after big shot. Camidge led the comeback in erasing a 9-point second-half deficit by going on a 7-0 run by himself – including a 4-point play that gave the Texans the lead for good with nine minutes to go. He had 15 points on 4-10 shooting from behind the arc and four rebounds and four assists. Against Cameron, Camidge scored 15 of his game-high 19 points in the first half while draining a career-best five 3-pointers and grabbing a career-high eight rebounds. For the week, he shot 44 percent from the floor, connected on 47 percent on three’s (9-19), shot 83 percent from the free-throw line, and averaged six rebounds and 3.5 assists. DEFENSIVE Romond Jenkins, Tarleton State University, SR, Forward, Midwest City, OK, Douglass HS Jenkins posted a pair of double-doubles in No. 16 Tarleton State’s wins over Midwestern State and Cameron. In the win over MSU, Jenkins, who finished with 12 points and 13 rebounds, scored eight of his 12 points in a 3:30 span in the second half and it allowed Tarleton to build a 58-52 lead. He also grabbed seven of his 13 rebounds in the final seven minutes of the game to keep possession in Tarleton’s hands. Jenkins’ biggest contribution, however, might have been what he was able to limit MSU to offensively. The Mustangs shot a season-worst 27 percent while scoring a season-low 56 points and also held Igor Ibaka, the reigning LSC Defensive Player of the Week who came in averaging 11.7 points and 7.4 rebounds, to zero points and six rebounds as he battled foul trouble against Jenkins all game. He also blocked three shots against the Mustangs. Against Cameron, Jenkins scored 12 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and blocked a career-high four shots. The senior limited the Aggies to season lows in points (60) and field goal percentage (32.3). For the week, Jenkins averaged 12 points, 12 rebounds, 3.5 blocks and 2 assists while shooting 60 percent from the floor. When Jenkins was on the floor for 61 minutes in the two games, Tarleton outscored opponents by 19 points. Tarleton improved to 4-0 in games that Jenkins has a double-double. OTHER TOP PERFORMERS Trey Sumpter, Texas A&M University - Kingsville, in the lone game of the week for the Javelinas, went off for 29 points as he shot 65% from the floor, 60% from beyond the arc and 50% from the free throw line in the 79-64 win over St. Mary’s. Sumpter set new career highs with 29 points and six made three-point field goals made in a single game. Lorenzo Dillard, Angelo State University, was a key in the No. 14 Rams offensive success this week. The guard out of Chicago turned in 45 total points for the week averaging 22.5 points per game. He first marked a season high 19 points against St. Mary’s then eclipsed it two days later with 26 points against St. Edward’s. The junior knocked down 13-27 from inside the arc and 17-18 from the charity stripe against the Rams two opponents for the week. He led the squad with 13 assists and grabbed a team second 15 boards on the week. Dillard also pocketed a team second three steals for the week. Daeshon Francis, UT Permian Basin, led UT Permian Basin men’s basketball in scoring on the weekend, averaging 19.5 ppg in a pair of wins over Eastern New Mexico and Western New Mexico. The junior forward scored 18 points on 4-6 shooting against the Greyhounds with a 10-12 night at the free throw line and recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 10 rebounds and also had four steals and a pair of blocks. He led the Falcons with 21 points two days later over the Mustangs, connecting on 8-13 from the field with eight more rebounds. Francis leads all Falcons on the season with 21 ppg on 63.9 percent shooting on all field goal attempts. CoRnell Neal, Eastern New Mexico University, led the Greyhounds in scoring in both games, averaging 17.0 points/game against UTPB and WT. The point guard dished out 11 assists while shooting at a .429 clip on the weekend and going 8-of-10 from the charity stripe.
