LSC Men's Basketball Weekly Release (12/14/16)
1. LSC MEN’S BASKETBALL
Angelo State, Tarleton State, and West Texas A&M remain unbeaten in Lone Star Conference play. ASU is also
undefeated this season at 6-0.
A pair of LSC games are on the schedule this week along with 12 non-conference contests.
The LSC men have a 71-31 overall record so far this season. In the NCAA South Central Region, the men’s
teams are currently 21-5 combined versus Heartland Conference teams and 14-4 against the Rocky Mountain
Athletic Conference.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
OFFENSIVE
David Chavlovich, West Texas A&M University, JR, Guard, Arlington, Texas, Bowie HS
Chavlovich continued to prove why he in one of the best all-around players in Division II Basketball this past
week as the junior led the No. 19 Buffs to their sixth and seventh straight victories to improve to 12-1 overall
with a 3-0 mark in LSC play. Tuesday night’s LSC matchup with UT Permian Basin saw him go 10-of-20 from
the floor including 3-of-9 from deep and 5-of-5 from the free throw line to score 28 points with four rebounds,
four assists and a steal. The Arlington native went 14-of-32 (43.8 percent) from the floor including 5-of-16 (31.3
percent) from long range and a perfect 11-of-11 from the free throw line to go along with eight total rebounds,
five assists, one block and one steal. Chavlovich now has 1,342 career points in his 72 contests for an average
of 18.6 per game to sit just 60 points shy of Price Brookfield (1940-42, 1,406) for third place all-time.
DEFENSIVE
Carl White, West Texas A&M University, SO, Guard, Chicago, Illinois, Foreman HS
White continued his hot start to the 2016-17 season this past week as the sophomore helped the No. 19 Buffs
to a pair of wins to run their win streak to seven games with an overall record of 12-1 with a 3-0 mark in LSC
play. White scored 16 points on Tuesday night in a Lone Star Conference matchup with UT Permian Basin to
go along with five rebounds, four assists, one block and three steals as the Buffs held the Falcons to 18 points
under their season scoring average in a 89-80 victory. The Chicago native went 8-of-14 (57.1 percent) from the
floor including 3-of-7 (42.9 percent) from deep and 6-of-8 (75 percent) from the free throw line to go along with
eight rebounds (4.0 per game), four assists, one block and five steals.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Quay King, Angelo State University, continues to lead the Rams as he put away a season high 26 points
against the Mustangs this week. The senior hit 56.3 percent of his sort range shots while knocking down 6-12
3-pointers. He is now averaging a conference leading 20.7 points per contest so far this year. The Atlanta native
also continues to lead the conference in three-point field goals per game (3.8). Defensively, he turned in a team
second seven total boards.
Deshawn Riddick, Tarleton State University, averaged 18 points per game in Tarleton’s two road wins over
Western and Eastern New Mexico last week. Riddick had 17 points and 6 assists in a 21-point win over WNMU
and 19 points and 3 assists versus ENMU. Riddick shot 56 percent from the floor and 64 percent on 3-pointers.
The Texans averaged 81 points per game over the weekend.
CoRnell Neal, Eastern New Mexico University, registered another strong week for the Greyhounds and was
the team’s top performer against a pair of Lone Star Conference powerhouses. The senior guard shot .500
against Texas A&M-Commerce and .667 against nationally-ranked Tarleton State. He also had three assists
against the Lions and followed with a four-assist performance against the Texans.
Trey Sumpter, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, continues to achieve in the 2016-17 season as he averaged
15.5 points over the last two games. Sumpter finished with 14 points against St. Edward’s including five late
consecutive points that gave the Hogs a 71-69 lead with 37 seconds remaining in the game that TAMUK
ultimately won by three points. He then followed that performance with a game-high of 17 points against St.
Mary’s and drained three triples in the second half to help seal the deal over the Rattlers. The Alabama native is
second in the conference with a 49 shooting percentage and 10th in the league with a scoring average of 15.2.
De’Andre Carson, Texas A&M University-Commerce, was on fire from the field in both his games last week.
He shot 78.6 percent from the field, including 66.7 percent from behind the arc. He was 8-of-9 for 18 points
against Eastern New Mexico, his highest scoring output of the season. He was also the lead facilitator for the
Lions, dishing out seven assists, including five assists against Western New Mexico. Carson also made his mark
on the defensive end. He had five steals against WNMU and six overall, turning the thefts into assists for his
teammates or easy buckets for himself. Carson leads the LSC in three-point percentage. He is the only player in
the conference who is converting more than half of his three-point attempts.
Jordan Enriquez, Western New Mexico, led the team in scoring piling in 36 points, along with 17 rebounds,
two assists, a block and four three-pointers. He scored in double-figures in two of the games with a high of
14 versus Texas A&M-Commerce. Enriquez nearly reached double-figures in all three games as he went for 13
against Tarleton State and nine against Benedictine-Mesa. He shot 39 percent (5-13) against Tarleton State,
adding 3-8 from three. He grabbed a high in rebounds with six twice. In the three games he averaged 12.0
points, 5.7 rebounds and shot 35 percent.
Thomas Tshikaya, Angelo State University, once again anchored the Rams defensive efforts as thy downed
MSU on the road. The junior out of France led the team with 13 total rebounds and a blocked shot. He assisted
the offense as he turned in 10 points for his second double-double of the season.

Latrell Spivey, Western New Mexico, once again led the team on the glass with 27 rebounds and tied for
the team lead in steals with three. Of his rebounds, 18 came on the defensive end. He averaged 6.7 points, 9.0
rebounds and shot 67 percent in the three games, while adding five assists. He nearly went for a double-double
against Benedictine-Mesa with nine points and eight rebounds, while adding two steals. His top rebounding
game of 13 boards was against Tarleton State, with nine coming on the defensive end.
Romond Jenkins, Tarleton State University, nearly averaged a double-double over the weekend as No. 15
Tarleton swept its games against Western and Eastern New Mexico to improve to 4-0 in LSC play. Jenkins
averaged 11.5 points and 9 rebounds. Jenkins had 8 points, 9 rebounds and a career-high 4 blocks against
WNMU and 15 points, 9 rebounds against ENMU. Jenkins shot 90 percent from the floor. The senior forward
limited opponents to 36 percent shooting.
Dorian Armstrong, Texas A&M Universit-Commerce, was a terror against Western New Mexico. He had four
blocks and two steals in the game. The Lions held opponents to 68 points per game on 35 percent shooting last
week. Armstrong also averaged 5.5 defensive rebounds per game, which led the team. Armstrong also had four
assists and shot 70 percent from the free throw line.
Joe Clarke, Eastern New Mexico University, registered a strong defensive performance in games against
Texas A&M-Commerce and nationally-ranked Tarleton State. For the week, he had four steals, which included
two in each game. He also blocked a shot and averaged 10.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game.

Angelo State
The Rams, who are 6-0, 1-0 LSC, remain the only undefeated team left in the LSC as they travel to Las Vegas,
Nevada for its second consecutive appearance in the Holiday Hoops Classic. ASU will start it trip to Sin City with
a rematch from the 2015-16 season against Rollins then complete the classic with a match-up against Simon
Fraser.
Cameron
Cameron split a pair of non-conference games last week, falling 73-71 to Southwestern Oklahoma on Tuesday
and winning 79-76 against Lubbock Christian on Saturday. The Aggies averaged six steals, 4.5 blocks and 9.5
three-pointers between the two games. Tyler Williams averaged 16 points on the week and has scored double
figures in four consecutive games. He capped off a strong outing by scoring the game winning shot against LCU
with a half court buzzer beater after the Aggies rallied from a nine point deficit with just a minute remaining.
Tyus Momoh matched William’s 17 point effort in the narrow loss against SWOSU for his fourth straight game
in double figures. Trey Hall averaged 11.5 points in the two contests and recorded a career high three blocks
against the Chaps.
Eastern New Mexico
Last week, the Eastern New Mexico men’s basketball team dropped a pair of hard-fought games against two
of the top teams in the Lone Star Conference. In games against Texas A&M-Commerce and Tarleton State,
the Hounds held a 37.5-31.5 edge in rebounding, which included a 20-rebound lead on the offensive glass.
Three players averaged in double figures over the games, led by 17.5 points per game from CoRnell Neal. Chris
Lewis paced the Hounds with 5.5 rebounds per game. This week, ENMU will host Lubbock Christian and Texas
Wesleyan.
Midwestern State
Midwestern State dropped its third consecutive game falling 75-72 to No. 11 Angelo State Thursday at D.L.
Ligon Coliseum... MSU dropped to 14-13 against nationally ranked opposition during the Nelson Haggerty era
(since the start of the 2011-12 season)... The Mustangs are 1-2 this season against teams ranked in the NABC
Top 25 with a win over no. 23 Arkansas-Fort Smith in the season opener and losses to Tarleton State and
Angelo State... MSU is 5-3 against nationally ranked opponents since the start of the 2015-16 season... The
Mustangs suffered their first three-game skid since dropping four straight games from Jan. 23-Feb. 6, 2016...
Midwestern fell to 0-3 in league play for the first time since 2007-08... Junior forward Igor Ibaka notched his
third double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds against Angelo State... Junior guard Brandon
Neel scored in double figures for the fourth consecutive game going for 14 points and seven rebounds against
Angelo State... Neel is averaging 14.3 points and 7.7 rebounds since the start of league play... Junior forward
Nick Powell matched a career high with 11 points while pulling down five rebounds in 32 minutes Thursday
against Angelo State... Junior guard Devante Pullum dished out a team-high six assists against the Rams. It was
his fourth game with at least five assists this season... Senior guard Pat Smith snapped a streak of four games
scoring in double figures by finishing with 7 points in 35 minutes of floor time... Smith has knocked down at
least one 3-pointer in each of his last five games...
Tarleton State
No. 15 Tarleton won its fourth and fifth straight games with victories over Western and Eastern New Mexico.
The Texans are now 8-1 overall and 4-0 in the Lone Star Conference. The Texans will travel to Las Vegas to take
on Simon Fraser and No. 13 Western Washington from Dec. 18-19.
Texas A&M-Commerce
The Lions scored two decisive wins over the weekend, knocking off Eastern New Mexico and Western New
Mexico. They are now 9-1 on the season and are on a three-game winning streak. They are 3-1 in conference
after their final two conference games of the 2016 calendar year. A&M-Commerce won both games by double
figures, averaging 87 points while surrendering just 68 points per game. The Lions shot 49 percent from the
field while holding opponents to 34.5 percent shooting. They were +7.5 in the turnover battle, getting 22 steals
combined. The Lions are second in the conference in scoring and lead the conference in scoring margin. They
have two of the top ten scorers in the conference and two of the top five shooters, plus the top three-point
shooter in the LSC. The Lions are tops in conference in turnover margin and steals. They have the top shot

blocker and top stealer. The Lions continue their seven-game road stand on Thursday against East Central.
Texas A&M-Kingsville
The Javelinas finished 2-0 this weekend with a pair of home wins over St. Edward’s and St. Mary’s. The Hogs
will open their LSC schedule this weekend on the road as they travel to play against Cameron University on
Saturday, Dec. 17th and will then start the week with a Monday night tilt against Midwestern State.
UT Permian Basin
UT Permian Basin men’s basketball split this past week, dropping its first Lone Star Conference game on the
road 89-80 at West Texas A&M before picking up a 75-63 win over Dallas Baptist in non-conference play.
Johnnie Lacy led the Falcons in scoring this week, averaging 17 points a game with seven 3-pointers as one of
three Falcons to average double figures. Sammy Allen averaged 10.5 rebounds in the two game week with a
team high eight assists. The Falcons are now off until 2017.
West Texas A&M
The No. 22 Buffaloes of West Texas A&M ran their win streak to seven this past week with wins over UT Permian
Basin and New Mexico Highlands to improve to 12-1 overall with a perfect 3-0 mark in LSC play for the best start
to a season since 2011-12. WT went 55-of-118 (46.6 percent) from the floor this past week including 17-of-54
(31.5 percent) from deep and 44-of-40 (88 percent) from the free throw line while grabbing 34.0 rebounds per
contests while allowing just 67.5 points per game. The Buffs hit the road this weekend as they take part in the
2016 South Point Division II Holiday Hoops Classic at the South Point Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. WT
takes on No. 12 Western Washington on Sunday afternoon at 3:15 p.m. CT followed by a Monday afternoon
matchup with Rollins with tipoff scheduled for 1 p.m. CT.

The Mustangs ran into a tough stretch of three games falling to Tarleton State, Texas A&M-Commerce and
Benedictine-Mesa. Outside of top performances by Jordan Enriquez and Latrell Spivey, Willie McCray was
