Eastern New Mexico tops the Lone Star Conference standings at 8-0. Khala Riley of Texas A&M-Commerce was named offensive player of the week after scoring 21 points against Tarleton State. Lilley Vander Zee of West Texas A&M was named defensive player of the week after averaging 7.5 points and 7.0 rebounds in two victories. Conference play continues this week with games on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
1. LSC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Eastern New Mexico tops the Lone Star Conference standings as the only undefeated team in league play at
8-0. ENMU faces Angelo State on Saturday in San Angelo, Texas.
LSC play continues this week with one league contest Tuesday and five on both Thursday and Saturday.
The LSC women are 91-71 overall. The women’s squads are currently 14-9 combined against the Heartland,
and 9-9 versus RMAC teams, which are the other conferences in the NCAA South Central Region.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
OFFENSIVE
Khala Riley, Texas A&M University-Commerce, SR, Guard, Grand Prairie, Texas, Arlington Bowie HS
Riley had a strong game against Tarleton State with career-highs in points (21) and assists (8). She shot 56
percent from the field and had two steals on the defensive end. Riley helped orchestrate an eight-point
comeback that started in the third quarter and led the Lions on a 24-6 run in the fourth quarter. She then had
19 points against Texas Woman’s on Saturday. Riley got to the free throw line 11 times and pulled down seven
rebounds. She is ninth in scoring and fifth in assists in the conference.
DEFENSIVE
Lilley Vander Zee, West Texas A&M University, SR, Center, Granbury, Texas, Granbury HS
Vander Zee had another outstanding week for the Lady Buffs as she averaged 7.5 points and a team-high
7.0 rebounds in a pair of victories running the winning streak to five-straight. She tallied 11 points and nine
rebounds in the 68-61 upset win over No. 6 Angelo State going 2 of 5 from the field and 7 of 10 from the line
with one block. Vander Zee followed that performance with two blocks and five rebounds along with one field
goal and two free throws in the 73-50 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville. She helped hold both ASU and TAMUK
to season scoring lows and a .350 shooting percentage. Vander Zee has a team-best 23 blocks on the year and
has recorded five or more rebounds in each of the last five games.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Savanna James, Cameron University, stood out as a key part of the Aggies split this weekend as CU fell to
Eastern New Mexico 84-76 and defeated Western New Mexico 83-60. She averaged 22.5 points with 25 against
ENMU and 20 against the Mustangs. James went 8-13 in both contests, while going 2-3 from three point range
and 11-13 from the charity stripe during the two game stretch. She also averaged 8.5 rebounds. James has
scored 20 or more points in five of the Aggies last six games and is currently fourth in the LSC in scoring with
17.1 points per game and first in shooting, with a field goal percentage of .585.
Kenesha Saygo, Texas Woman’s University, lifted TWU to a 75-69 win at Texas A&M-Commerce Saturday to
hand the Lions their first home loss of the season. Saygo gave the Pioneers a 60-59 lead on a three-pointer with
4:55 remaining and tallied 10 of the team’s 15 points during the final minutes of the contest and went 4-for-4
from the line in the last 21 seconds to seal the victory. Against Tarleton State, the senior totaled a game-high
20 points. In the two contests, Saygo averaged 19.5 points and recorded eight rebounds, seven steals and five
assists.
Taylor Dorsey, Angelo State University, led the No. 6 Belles in scoring in a pair of tough road games. The
senior averaged 17.5 against West Texas A&M and UTPB. She led ASU in scoring with 14 points in Canyon and
scored 21 points, the ninth time she has surpassed the 20 point mark, in the rebound win over UTPB. The Fort
Worth native dished out 5.5 assists per game and 2.0 steals last week.
Bailey Wipff, Tarleton State University, led the TexAnns on the offensive end of the court last week as the
senior tied her career high with a 22-point performance against Texas A&M-Commerce Tuesday night before
following up with a 10-point effort to lead the TexAnns past Texas Woman’s Thursday. For the week, Wipff
average 16.0 points per game on .500 shooting from the floor, including .400 from downtown, and a perfect
1.000 mark at the charity stripe. She also led the team with nine assists for the week, including five in her career
night against Commerce.
Whitney Taylor, Midwestern State University, averaged 15.5 points to lead Midwestern State to a 1-1 record
on the road last weekend in New Mexico. The Melissa native posted the third 20-point game of the season
and eighth of her career with 21 points in a win over Western New Mexico, matching a career-high five three-
pointers. Taylor finished 7-of-14 from the floor while adding six rebounds, a pair of assists and a steal against
the Lady Mustangs. Taylor ended the week with a 10-point performance at LSC leader Eastern New Mexico for
her sixth-straight double-figure scoring outing and 11th of the season. She leads the league and ranks 38th
nationally with 2.7 three-pointers per game.
Kassandra Harris, Eastern New Mexico University, turned in strong performances in both of the Greyhounds’
games last week to keep the team undefeated in conference play. She shot .500 from the floor and was a
percent 8-for-8 from the free throw line. Harris scored 13 of her 15 points in the second half against Cameron,
while the Hounds were rallying from a 14-point deficit. She also had six rebounds and three steals in the game
to aid in the come-from-behind win. Against the Mustangs, Harris narrowly missed her second double double
of the season, with 15 points and nine boards.
Megan Looney, Western New Mexico University, continues to perform well on both ends of the floor for the
Lady Mustangs. The sophomore forward tallied her third double-double of the season going for a career-high
21 points and adding 10 rebounds against Cameron. For the week she tallied 27 points, 19 rebounds, a block
and four steals while shooting 71 percent making 12-17. She nearly had a perfect game against the Aggies going

Sasha Watson, West Texas A&M University, averaged 12.5 points for the week in the fourth and fifth-straight
wins for the Lady Buffs, including the 68-61 upset win over No. 6 Angelo State and a 73-50 win over Texas A&M-
Kingsville. Watson went a team-best 10 of 19 from the field (.526), 1 of 4 from beyond the arc and 4 of 5 from
the line. She averaged 3.0 rebounds per game and tallied eight assists moving her into third all-time in career
assists at WT with 394 surpassing former Lady Buff Casey Land with 393. Watson tallied her third game of 20
or more points this season with the 23 versus TAMUK and her 11th of her career.
Mackenzie Hailey, Tarleton State University, continued her run of dominance as the sophomore forward
posted back-to-back double-doubles against Texas A&M-Commerce and Texas Woman’s. She grabbed 22 total
rebounds for the week, including 12 in Tarleton’s win over Texas Woman’s Thursday. She added 13.5 points
per game in two games to go along with six assists, four blocks, and four steals. She also anchored the TexAnn
defense that held Texas Woman’s to a .322 shooting percentage from the floor Thursday - the second-lowest
percentage that Tarleton has allowed all season.

Jamie Bonnarens, Cameron University, helped the Aggies split last weeks contests in New Mexico. Against
ENMU, She recorded three blocks and two steals while scoring 14 points and grabbing seven rebounds. Against
the Mustangs, Bonnarens had four steals and recorded two more blocks to go along with a career high 21
points and six rebounds. She helped CU hold WNMU to shooting just 35.2 percent from the field and 26.7
percent from three. The freshman from Cache, Okla. is averaging 12.4 points and six rebounds per game this
season.
Emily Spector, Texas Woman’s University, stepped back into her starting role for the Pioneers last week to
average 14.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals. The senior notched her second double-double on the season
with game-highs of 23 points and 10 rebounds in a 75-69 win at Texas A&M-Commerce to hand the Lions their
first home loss of the season. Spector pulled down six defensive boards against TAMUC and registered three
steals and a block. The third steal came in the final seconds with TWU leading by three to prevent the Lions
from tying the ballgame and led to two free throws by Spector to seal the win.
Brianna Wise, Texas A&M University-Commerce, was a key piece to the Lions’ 24-6 run in the fourth quarter
against Tarleton State. For the game she had three blocks and a steal and was matched up against both the
three and four positions. She caused problems for TSU on multiple possessions. She also had 14 points and
three assists on the offensive end. Wise also had a steal and five defensive rebounds against Texas Woman’s.
She also finished with 16 points, including 3-of-3 from downtown.
Brandi Gomez, Eastern New Mexico University, turned in a strong defensive effort in last week’s Lone Star
Conference games against Cameron and Midwestern State. She had two steals and two blocks in the second
half against Cameron, to help the Hounds rally from a 14-point deficit. Gomez also connected on a career-best
20 points and grabbed five rebounds against the Aggies. She followed with a 6-for-6 outing at the charity stripe
and three steals in a win over Midwestern State. Over the last six quarters of play, ENMU has allowed just 71
points.

Angelo State
The No. 6 Angelo State women’s basketball team rebounded with a 96-83 win over UTPB after suffering its
first loss of the season ... Taylor Dorsey recorded her ninth game with at least 20 points and has scored double
figures in her 12th game ... Christina Robinson scored a career high 23 points while Jasmine Prophet scored
season high 21 ... ASU will host Western New Mexico and Eastern New Mexico on Thursday, Jan. 19 and
Saturday, Jan. 21.
Cameron
The Aggie women split their two game stretch in New Mexico last week, falling to Eastern New Mexico 84-
76 on Thursday and then taking down Western New Mexico 83-60 on Saturday. CU shot under 40 percent
from the field and 31.3 percent from three point range in the loss to the Greyhounds. Savanna James had a
game high 25 points, while Jamie Bonnarens added 14 points, seven rebounds, three blocks and two steals.
Against the Lady Mustangs, Cameron shot over 46 percent from the field, while shooting just 26.7 percent from
three. Bonnarens scored a career high 21 points and had six rebounds, four steals and two blocks, while James
chipped in a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds and Natalie Halbleib scored 19 points.
Eastern New Mexico
The Eastern New Mexico women’s basketball swept two Lone Star Conference games last week, with wins over
Cameron and Midwestern State. The wins gave ENMU an 8-0 LSC record for the second time in team history
and the first time since the 1991-92 season. Eastern rallied from a 14-point deficit on Thursday to earn its
seventh LSC win, while Saturday’s victory over the Mustangs gave the Hounds a 12-3 record. This week, the
Greyhounds will hit the road to face Texas A&M-Kingsville and Angelo State.
Midwestern State
Midwestern State moved to 4-10 overall and 1-7 in LSC play after going 1-1 on the road last weekend in New
Mexico. MSU posted its first conference win of the season Thursday with a 71-46 victory over Western New
Mexico with junior guard Whitney Taylor leading the way with 21 points. The Mustangs suffered a 78-64
setback to league leader Eastern New Mexico on Saturday with junior forward Micheline Mercelita leading four
Mustangs in double figures with 14 points. MSU returns to D.L. Ligon Coliseum for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff Tuesday
against Cameron in the Red River Rivalry. The Mustangs also face Texas Woman’s in a 7 p.m. matchup Thursday
at Kitty Magee Arena in Denton.

Tarleton State
Tarleton split the week with a win over Texas Woman’s. Tarleton will return to action Thursday when they host
West Texas A&M and UT Permian Basin.
Texas A&M-Commerce
A&M-Commerce went 1-1 last week. They stormed back in the fourth quarter to defeat Tarleton and lost a
close matchup to Texas Woman’s. The Lions play Monday against Arlington Baptist before hosting UT Permian
Basin and West Texas A&M to close out the week. A&M-Commerce is 5-3 in conference play and play seven of
their next nine conference games at home.
Texas A&M-Kingsville
Texas A&M-Kingsville split its conference road trip this week, defeating UT Permian Basin in Odessa... the
Javelinas held the Lady Buffs to just five points in the first period Saturday... The Hogs are currently in seventh
place in the LSC with three conference wins.
Texas Woman’s
TWU dropped a 65-57 decision at Tarleton State Thursday before rebounding with a 75-69 win at Texas A&M-
Commerce.

West Texas A&M
The Lady Buffs stretched their winning streak to five games with a thrilling 68-61 upset win over No. 6 Angelo
State and a 73-50 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville this week...WT scored 70.5 points per game for the week and
allowed 55.5, while going 48 of 105 from the field (.457) and 12 of 34 from beyond the arc (.353). WT was 33
of 43 from the line (.767) and averaged 43.0 rebounds per game, while allowing just 28.5...The opposition shot
.350 from the field (42-120) and .368 from beyond the arc (14-38), while going just 13 of 23 from beyond the
arc as WT made 10 more free throws than the opposition attempted...WT snapped a three-game losing streak
to Angelo State...WT had five players in double figures led by a game-high 16 from freshman Lexy Hightower
as she was 5 of 13 from the field and 3 of 8 from beyond the arc...Senior Lilley Vander Zee narrowly missed
a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds as the Lady Buffs held the high-scoring Rambelles to just
61 points (averaging over 80) and to just 39 percent shooting...Against Texas A&M-Kingsville, the Lady Buffs
were down 14-5 through the first quarter as they started just 2 of 12 from the field, but responded with a 20-6
run in the second quarter for a 25-20 lead at halftime...The five points were a season-low for a quarter an the
25 points also marked the fewest in a half this season...Despite that, WT put up 31 points in the third quarter
tying the most in a quarter this season blowing the game open...Senior Sasha Watson tallied 23 points in the
game and six assists moving into fourth all-time in career assists with 394 surpassing former Lady Buff Casey
Land with 393...WT shot 51.9 percent from the field against TAMUK and outrebounded the Javelinas 46-25...
WT head coach Kristen Mattio won her first game against Angelo State (1-3) and improved to 3-0 against Texas
A&M-Kingsville...She now has beaten every LSC team and is 41-9 in her time at WT and 19-5 in Lone Star
Conference play.
Western New Mexico
WNMU had a strong first half against Cameron, but weren’t able to hold onto the lead in the second half falling
in both games this week. Outside of the strong performance from Megan Looney, Jordan Gutierrez tallied 37
points, Keshaun Clark added 12 points and 10 rebounds. Looney continues to perform well on both ends of
the floor for the Lady Mustangs. The sophomore forward tallied her third double-double of the season going
for a career-high 21 points and adding 10 rebounds against Cameron. For the week she tallied 27 points, 19
rebounds, a block and four steals while shooting 71 percent making 12-17. She nearly had a perfect game
against the Aggies going 10-11 from the field. She tallied nine rebounds against Midwestern State.
