LSC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
West Texas A&M remains unbeaten this season at 7-0 overall and 2-0 in Lone Star Conference games.
LSC rolls on this week with action on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
The LSC women are 39-40 overall. The women’s squads are currently 15-11 combined against the Heartland, and 10-
12 versus RMAC teams, which are the other conferences in the NCAA South Central Region.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
OFFENSIVE
Brianna Wise, Texas A&M University-Commerce, SR, Forward, Desoto, Texas, Desoto HS
Wise had the best scoring week of her career last weekend, topping 20 points in both contests. She scored a career-high
26 points and had a season-high nine rebounds in the Lions' overtime win over Cameron, including scoring nine points in
the overtime period to single handedly out score the Aggies in OT. She then had 21 points in the Lions three-point loss to
Midwestern State. Wise is third in the LSC in scoring and has three of the top nine individual scoring performances in the
league this season. She is also top-10 in assists and blocks.
DEFENSIVE
Lejha Smith, Cameron University, JR, Forward, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Smith battled in the paint during CU's first two Lone Star Conference games and averaged 13 rebounds and two blocks
during the two-game weekend. Against Texas A&M-Commerce, she had 14 boards with 11 on defense, and three blocks.
On Saturday, Smith grabbed 12 rebounds while also scoring 10 points for her third double-double of the season. She
helped hold Tarleton State to just 63 points and under 40 percent shooting from the field. Smith leads the LSC and is
ranked ninth nationally in rebounding, while ranking 10th in blocks per game.

OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Jamie Bonnarens, Cameron University, the Lone Star Conference's leading scorer, led Cameron during their first two
conference games with back-to-back 20-plus point efforts. In the overtime thriller against Texas A&M-Commerce, the
sophomore shot .500 from the field and scored 22 points, with 14 of those coming during the second half. Bonnarens
also had 12 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. She followed that game up with a 23 point outing in
the win over Tarleton State. Bonnarens went for another 14 points in the second half against the TexAnns. She totaled
45 points and 19 rebounds while shooting 54.8 percent from the field during the two game home stand.
Mackenzie Hailey, Tarleton State University, averaged 21 points per game in Tarleton's first two league games. The
sophomore from Burleson scored 42 total points on 15-25 shooting from the floor (.600) to go along with 16 rebounds,
two blocks and seven steals. She had a career high six steals against Midwestern State in the LSC opener.
Brandi Gomez, Eastern New Mexico University, registered a strong week for the Greyhound women's basketball
team as Lone Star Conference play opened. She registered a 13-point, three-assist game against UT Permian Basin and
followed with seven points against fifth-ranked West Texas A&M. Gomez was also effective on the defensive side, with
four steals and two blocked shots.
Alexis Nezianya, Texas Woman's University, helped lead the Pioneers to their first LSC victory on the season in a 50-
48 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville Saturday by hauling in a team-high 11 rebounds and posting 10 points for her fourth
double-double this year. On the week, the senior forward shot 57-percent from the field and collected a pair of blocks
along with a steal.
Myla Woods-Brown, Western New Mexico, was a dominant force on the glass as she pulled down 17 rebounds,
with 12 coming on the defensive end. She also sent back two blocks and added a pair of steals. She chipped in 13 points,
making 5-7 from the field and 2-3 from long range in the two games. She had six points, 12 rebounds, a block and two
steals against UT Permian Basin.
Daeshi McCants, Eastern New Mexico University, had a strong defensive effort in the first week of Lone Star
Conference play. Her four blocked shots and two steals helped limit fifth-ranked West Texas A&M and UT Permian Basin
to less than 65 points per game.

Melanie Ransom, Texas A&M University-Commerce, had three steals and a block in the Lions overtime win over
Cameron to go along with 14 points. She then had three steals in the Lions' narrow loss to Midwestern State. Ransom
was a big part of the Lion defense that held shooters to worse than 36 percent shooting from the field.

Cameron
The Aggies went 1-1 in their Lone Star Conference opening weekend, falling to Texas A&M-Commerce in overtime on
Thursday and then defeating Tarleton State on Saturday, 70-63. Jamie Bonnarens led the way averaging 22.5 points with
3. an average of 14 points in the second half. She also grabbed 9.5 rebounds per game, while Lejha Smith averaged 13
boards per contest.
Eastern New Mexico
The Eastern New Mexico women's basketball team opened Lone Star Conference play last week against UT Permian
Basin and fifth-ranked West Texas A&M. After trailing UTPB by 18 points in the second half, the Hounds managed to
close to within just three points, before falling in the opener. Eastern also dropped a decision to the Lady Buffs. This
week, ENMU will open a three-game road swing, which will begins at Texas A&M-Commerce.
Midwestern State
2-0 last week.
Tarleton State
Tarleton dropped its first two league games. The TexAnns will play its first home games since opening weekend this
weekend.
Texas A&M-Commerce
The Lions split their road games last week to begin conference play. They won an overtime battle against Cameron and
lost a tight contest to Midwestern State. The Lions lead the LSC in free throw attempts, are third in scoring and third in
turnover margin. The team hosts Eastern and Western New Mexico this week.
Texas A&M-Kingsville
0-2 last week.
Texas Woman’s
TWU dropped a 74-62 decision to Angelo State Thursday before rebounding with a 50-48 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville
for their first LSC victory of the season.
UT Permian Basin
UT Permian Basin opened its conference schedule with a pair of wins this past weekend, defeating Eastern New Mexico
68-63 and Western New Mexico 69-54. Kayla Bretherton scored all 16 points in the second half in leading UTPB past the
Greyhounds, while Sierra LaGrande scored 20 in the win at WNMU. The Falcons forced 31 turnovers Thursday night and
came back to force 32 on Saturday.
West Texas A&M
2-0 last week.
Western New Mexico
The Lady Mustangs did a good job of slowing down No. 5 West Texas A&M to start the week, limiting the Lady Buffs to
57 points, but were only able to score 43. The following night, WNMU made a late run at UTPB before coming up short
in the fourth quarter. The Lady Mustangs forced 39 turnovers, posted 14 steals and had six blocks over the two games.
Cassandra Vickery led the offensive averaging 8.5 points, while Myla Woods-Brown was big on defense with 17
rebounds, along with two blocks and two steals. Woods-Brown was a dominant force on the glass as she pulled down
17 rebounds, with 12 coming on the defensive end. She also sent back two blocks and added a pair of steals. She
4. chipped in 13 points, making 5-7 from the field and 2-3 from long range in the two games. She had six points, 12
rebounds, a block and two steals against UT Permian Basin.
