Eastern New Mexico clinched at least a share of the Lone Star Conference title with wins over Midwestern State and Cameron last week. Tarleton State and Texas A&M-Commerce also won games last week. The conference standings and matchups for the final week of the regular season were provided, as well as individual accomplishments by players from different schools.
1. LSC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Eastern New Mexico clinched a share of the Lone Star Conference title and earned the program’s third 20-win
season last week. The Greyhounds host Angelo State and Texas A&M-Kingsville in the final week of league play
with one victory claiming the crown outright and No. 1 seed.
The Tarleton State at West Texas A&M game in Canyon on Saturday, February 25 was added to the NCAA
Division II Basketball Showcase and will air on the American Sports Network and NCAA.com.
The last week of play will determine the eight teams and seeding for the LSC Championship, set for March
2-5 in Allen, Texas.
The LSC women are 148-126 overall. The women’s squads are currently 14-9 combined against the
Heartland, and 9-9 versus RMAC teams, which are the other conferences in the NCAA South Central Region.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
OFFENSIVE
Krystal Pickron, Texas A&M University-Commerce, SR, Guard, Dallas, Texas, Royce City HS
Pickron was a force in both of the Lions’ wins last week. She scored 22 points against both Tarleton State and
Texas Woman’s. Pickron shot 50 percent from the field, 38 percent from behind the arc and 86.4 percent from
the foul line. She also got the job done on the defensive end, recording a block and a steal against the TexAnns
and three steals against the Pioneers. Pickron has scored 20 or more points five times this season.
DEFENSIVE
Jenna Price, Texas A&M University-Commerce, FR, Forward, Midlothian, Texas, Midlothian HS
Price seemed to be around every loose ball for the Lions last week. She averaged 15.5 rebounds per game,
including grabbing a career-high and league-best 18 boards against Texas Woman’s and 13 versus Tarleton
State. Price also had a block, four steals and drew multiple charges to get the Lions multiple added possessions.
The freshman has pulled down double-digit rebounds in 10 different games this season. She is averaging a
double-double in conference play with 10.9 points and 10.6 rebounds per game and has had seven double-
doubles this year. Price helped the Lions hold opponents to a 35.3 field goal percentage.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Jordan Gutierrez, Western New Mexico, put up her third 30-plus point game of the season going for 32
against Midwestern State. She also added a 21-point game against Cameron. She connected on 16 field goals,
five three-pointers and added 16 free throws during the week. Gutierrez also had 13 rebounds, nine assists and
five steals in playing all 40 minutes. She is now tied for the conference lead in scoring per game at 18.5 and she
has three of the top six scoring games in the LSC this season.
Whitney Taylor, Midwestern State University, shot 54.2 percent from the floor including a 43.8 percent clip
from behind the arc with seven three-pointers to average 18.0 points per game and lead MSU to a 1-1 week
inside D.L. Ligon Coliseum. The Melissa native recorded her fifth 20-point game of the season Saturday with 21
points and a career-high six assists to pace MSU to an 86-73 win over Western New Mexico. Taylor fired 8-of-14
from the floor with four triples to tally her 60th three-pointer of the season to become just the second Mustang
in the 21st century and sixth in program history to reach 60 threes in a single season. On Thursday, Taylor paced
the Mustangs to a near upset of LSC leader Eastern New Mexico with a team-high 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting
with three triples in 37 minutes on the court in the 61-57 defeat to the Greyhounds.
Mikaehla Connor, Eastern New Mexico University, turned in a strong performance for the Greyhounds last
week in road games against Midwestern State and Cameron. She poured in 22 points and grabbed six rebounds
to lead ENMU to its first road win over Midwestern State since 2006. Connor hit all eight free throws in that
contest. On Saturday, she finished with 14 points, five rebounds and three assists against Cameron. Connor’s
contributions helped the Greyhounds clinch at least a share of the LSC championship.
Mackenzie Hailey, Tarleton State University, averaged 16.5 points per game last weekend, including a 22
point performance at Texas A&M-Commerce Tuesday night. She also added 13 total rebounds, four assists,
three blocks, and four steals.
Christina Robinson, Angelo State University, led the Belles to wins No. 19 & 20 of the season for the second
straight season. The senior averaged 16.0 points per game and made 44.4 percent from the field. The Gilbert,
Arizona native handed out eight assists and made a team-high five steals. Robinson also made 41.7 percent
from the 3-point line as well.
Sasha Watson, West Texas A&M University, continued her impressive play as WT went 1-1 this week. She
went a team-best 14 of 27 from the field (.519) with 10 rebounds (5.0), 10 assists (5.0) and four steals (2.0).
She averaged a team-high 16 points on a pair of 16-point games at Texas A&M-Kingsville and at Angelo State.
Watson almost brought the Lady Buffs all the way back from a 12-point deficit with 12 second half points at
Angelo State Saturday. She moved into eighth all-time in career steals with, while ranking 14th all-time in
career scoring with 1,245 points, one point from tying for 13th.
Megan Looney, Western New Mexico, led the team in rebounding pulling down 24 in the two games, with 13
coming against Cameron in which she had a double-double with 14 points. She shot well from the field making
8-14 and also added an assist and two steals.
Alexis Nezianya, Texas Woman’s University, posted a career-best defensive outing against Texas A&M-
Commerce Thursday with career-highs of 15 rebounds and six blocks while also scoring a team-high 17 points.
Nezianya’s six blocks is the highest single-game output in the LSC this season and the seventh-highest total

in Division II this year, while her rebound total is
the fourth-best performance in the league. Against
Tarleton State, the forward was instrumental in
holding the TexAnns to 18 points below their season
average. In an average of 25 minutes of action
throughout the two games, Nezianya posted averages
of 11 points on 53-percent shooting, 10.5 rebounds,
four blocks and one steal.
Avery Queen, Midwestern State University,
notched her first career double-double in a win over
Western New Mexico Saturday while averaging 14.5
points and 10 rebounds in a 1-1 week for Midwestern
State. The Boerne native matched a career-high
17 points while posting her first double-figure
rebounding total of 12 in just 23 minutes of action
in the win over WNMU. Queen also put together a
strong performance against league leader Eastern
New Mexico with 12 points and eight boards in a four-
point defeat to the Greyhounds.
Ikpeaku Iwobi, Tarleton State University, continued
her torrid pace on the boards as the senior collected
20 rebounds - 10 each game - against Texas A&M-
Commerce and Texas Woman’s. She also had a steal
and a block.
Daeshi McCants, Eastern New Mexico University,
turned in a strong defensive performance last week
to help ENMU sweep a road trip against Midwestern
State and Cameron. Her defensive play helped limit
the Mustangs to 16.7 percent outside the three-point
line in the game’s final quarter, which limited MSU to
57 points for the game. McCants finished the contest
with two steals, one blocked shot, and 10 rebounds,
in addition to 13 points. At Cameron, she blocked a
pair of shots, had a steal, and contributed 20 points.
McCants efforts helped the Greyhounds clinch a
share of the Lone Star Conference championship and
finish with a 9-2 road record for the season.
Lilley Vander Zee, West Texas A&M University,
double-double wasn’t enough in a heartbreaking 68-
66 loss at Angelo State Saturday, but the center did
tie her career-high with 19 points to lead all-scorers
in the contest as she averaged 13.0 points in a 1-1
week for the Lady Buffs. Vander Zee went 10 of 17
from the field (.558) and 6 of 7 from the line (.857),
while recording seven offensive and nine defensive
rebounds with two blocks...Vander Zee recorded her
second double-double of the season. Her .588 clip
led the team this week.

Cameron
The Cameron women split their two games last week,
beating Western New Mexico 75-62 and falling to
No. 21 Eastern New Mexico 81-72. Against WNMU,
CU shot just 39 percent from the field, but held their
opponent to shooting under 32 percent. Savanna
James had a team high 19 points and 15 rebounds
for her seventh double-double of the season. In the
loss to the Greyhounds, the Aggies failed to get their
shooting stroke going again, shooting just 41 percent
from the field and 20 percent from three-point range.
Cristina Soriano had a career high 18 points, while
Jamie Bonnarens matched her with 18 of her own.
Eastern New Mexico
The Eastern New Mexico women’s basketball team
swept its final road trip of the regular season, to
post a 9-2 record in away games. The victories over
Midwestern State and Cameron clinched at least a
share of the Lone Star Conference championship and

gave the program its third 20-win season. Against
Midwestern State, the lead changed hands nine
times, before Mikaehla Connor hit a layup with just
3:21 left. Eastern never trailed at Cameron, on the
way to an 81-72 win. ENMU’s last 20-win season
came in 1992-93, which also saw the Hounds finish
first in the conference standings. This week, Eastern
will conclude the regular season with home games
against Angelo State and Texas A&M-Kingsville.
Midwestern State
Midwestern State moved to 8-16 on the season
and 5-13 in conference play following a split week
at home with an 86-73 win over Western New
Mexico and a narrow 61-57 defeat to league leader
Eastern New Mexico. The Mustangs were denied a
sixth-straight trip to the LSC Tournament Saturday
despite the win over WNMU with Texas A&M-
Kingsville securing the eighth and final berth into the
postseason tournament. Midwestern State makes its
final road trip of the season Tuesday to Cameron in a
Red River Rivalry matchup at Aggie Gym in Lawton,
Okla., before returning home to host Texas Woman’s
Saturday for its Pink Out Game in the season finale.
Tarleton State
Tarleton dropped back-to-back road games last week.
The TexAnns will hit the road for the final two regular
season games of the year this week against UT
Permian Basin and West Texas A&M. Saturday’s game
at West Texas A&M will be broadcast on American
Sports Network as a part of the Division II Basketball
Showcase.
Texas A&M-Commerce
The Lions scored two double-digit wins last week,
knocking off Tarleton State and Texas Woman’s. The
Lions are now 19-7 overall. They have tied the second
best win total in program history. The Lions are tied
for third in the LSC with a conference record of 13-
5. A&M-Commerce continues to lead the nation
in free throws made and leads the conference in
rebounding. They finish the regular season against
West Texas A&M and UT Permian Basin.
Texas A&M-Kingsville
1-1 last week.
Texas Woman’s
TWU dropped an 80-70 decision against Texas A&M-
Commerce Thursday before coming back with a 53-48
win over Tarleton State Saturday.
UT Permian Basin
UT Permian Basin lost a pair on the road this week,
falling 88-55 at Angelo State and dropping a close
63-59 game at Texas A&M-Kingsville. Briana Caro led
the Falcons in scoring, averaging 17 ppg while hitting
six 3-pointers in the two games. She also paced the
Falcons in rebounds, grabbing 8.5 per game.
West Texas A&M
Senior Lilley Vander Zee’s double-double wasn’t
enough in a heartbreaking 68-66 loss at Angelo State

be the first national broadcast game for the Lady
Buffs since the national championship game in 2014

Western New Mexico
The Lady Mustangs stayed close in both games this
week against Cameron and Midwestern State. Jordan
Gutierrez once again had a big week averaging 26.5
points, while Jade Botelho added 14.5 per game. Jayla
Brown added 9 points and Megan Looney tallied a
double-double and nearly averaged a double-double
with 8 points and 12 rebounds. Gutierrez put up her
third 30-plus point game of the season going for 32
against Midwestern State. She also added a 21-point
game against Cameron. She connected on 16 field
goals, five three-pointers and added 16 free throws
