1. LSC MEN’S BASKETBALL
Texas A&M-Commerce and Angelo State are both undefeated to pace a 49-13 start by the Lone Star Conference
men’s basketball teams.
LSC play starts this week with four contests on both Thursday and Saturday.
The LSC men have a 49-13 overall record so far this season. In the NCAA South Central Region, the men’s
teams are currently 14-4 combined versus Heartland Conference teams and 13-3 against the Rocky Mountain
Athletic Conference.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
OFFENSIVE
CoRnell Neal, Eastern New Mexico University, SR, Guard, Midwest City, Okla., Central Oklahoma
Neal led the Greyhounds in the team’s 2-0 weekend at the PAK-A-SAK Thanksgiving Classic against Southern
Nazarene and Wayne State. Against SNU, Neal made the game-winning shot, a three-pointer with four seconds
remaining to give ENMU the 76-73 victory. The bucket capped a 16-point, six assist and four steals effort. The
6-0 guard scored a season-high 29 points in the double-overtime win over the Wildcats with six rebounds, four
assists and two steals. Neal hit a pair of free throws with 26 seconds left to send the game to overtime. The
senior led the Greyhounds in scoring for the week averaging 22.5 points and shooting at a .395 clip.
DEFENSIVE
Igor Ibaka, Midwestern State University, JR, Forward, Brazzaville, Congo, Joviat Manresa (Oklahoma State)
Ibaka averaged 11 points and 10.5 rebounds leading 20th-ranked Midwestern State to a pair of regional wins at
the Holiday Inn-Airport Thanksgiving Classic last weekend in Grand Junction, Colo. The 6-8, 240-pound forward
knocked down 5-of-8 shots to finish with 12 points, eight rebounds, two blocked shots and a steal in a 75-63
win over Western State. Ibaka notched his second double-double of the season with 10 points and 13 rebounds
in a 74-57 win over Colorado Mesa. He helped hold opponents to 60 points and a 34.2 field goal percentage.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Quay King, Angelo State University, played a major role on the Rams offensive success in its only game of the
week versus St. Mary’s. His 25 points not only tied a career high, but led ASU to victory lane. The senior knocked
down 8-16 from inside the arc and 4-8 from deep, stroking three in a row during a Rams second half run. The
Atlanta native was also a perfect f 5-5 from the charity stripe. Defensively, he pulled down three boards and led
the team pocketing three steals.
JV Long, Cameron University, led the Aggies to two big wins last week, beating Rogers State 78-68 and Dallas
Baptist 76-70. He scored a game high 21 points against RSU and then led Cameron with 16 points against DBU.
In the two game span, Long was near perfect from the field, hitting 11-16 of his shots, while going 4-6 from
three point range. He also went 11-11 from the free throw line. In addition to his great shooting, long also
averaged 5.5 rebounds and had four assists to only one turnover in the two game stretch.
Deshawn Riddick, Tarleton State University, scored a career-high 27 points against Colorado State-Pueblo on
10-16 shooting (63 percent) and also had season highs in assists (4) and rebounds (4). Riddick followed that up
by scoring nine points on 50 percent shooting in helping No. 7 Tarleton to a 28-point win over Emmanuel. For
the week, Riddick averaged 18.5 points on 59 percent shooting, 3.5 rebounds, 3 assists and only 3 turnovers in
58 minutes of play.
Trey Seymore, Texas A&M University - Commerce, was a consistent contributor in all three wins for the Lions
last week. He averaged 18.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.3 assists while shooting 51.2 percent from the field.
He was all over the floor. He led the team in points and rebounds and was also the lead facilitator. Seymore
climbed the leaderboards in the conference after his performance last week. He is eighth in scoring, 14th in
rebounding, sixth in field goal percentage, fourth in both assists and assist to turnover ratio and sixth in steals.
He had 15 points, seven assists and six rebounds against Southern Arkansas. He had 20 points and six rebounds
against Emmanuel College. He had 19 points, seven rebounds and five assists against Colorado State-Pueblo.
He also made an impact on the defensive end. He had 18 defensive rebounds and tied for the team lead in
steals with seven.
David Chavlovich, West Texas A&M University, the LSC Preseason Player of the Year, continued his strong
junior campaign this past weekend as he averaged 18.0 points per contest as the Buffs improved to 8-1 overall
with wins over Oklahoma Panhandle State, Wayne State College and Southern Nazarene at the Pak-A-Sak WT
Thanksgiving Classic at the FUBC in Canyon. The Arlington native jumped two spots on WT’s all-time scoring
list this past week to pass NBA Champion Maurice Cheeks and former teammate Tez Dumars for fourth place
all-time with 1,270 career points. Chavlovich went 18-of-44 (40.9%) from the floor including 6-of-20 (30%) from
deep and a perfect 12-of-12 from the free throw line to go along with 12 assists, a block and five steals in the
two wins. The junior guard scored 21 points in a Friday afternoon rout of Wayne State College followed by a 27
point performance on Saturday in an overtime win over Southern Nazarene.
Pat Smith, Midwestern State University, poured in a career-high 19 points to lead 20th-ranked Midwestern
State to a 75-57 win over Colorado Mesa to cap off a weekend sweep at the Holiday Inn-Airport Thanksgiving
Classic in Grand Junction. The 6-foot guard from Houston connected on 7-of-10 shots with three 3-pointers to
complete another all-around game with three rebounds, an assists and four steals. Smith narrowly missed a
double-double in a 75-63 win over Western State Colorado on Friday scoring 11 points and dishing out nine
assists with a pair of steals.

Trey Sumpter, Texas A&M University - Kingsville, was the offensive staple for the Javelinas this week. The
junior led the team with 14 points per game by shooting 48% from the floor, 35% from three and 75% at the
charity stripe. Sumpter was the best all around player on the floor as he gathered 11 rebounds, four steals,
three assists and two blocks.
Chris Lewis, Eastern New Mexico University, averaged a double-double in the Greyhounds two wins this
weekend at the PAK-A-SAK Thanksgiving Classic against Southern Nazarene and Wayne State, scoring 10.5
points/game and pulling down 12.5 boards/game. The 6-8 forward cleaned the glass 15 times in the double-
overtime win over Wayne State, including eight offensive rebounds that led to a number of Eastern’s 29 second
chance points. In addition to the 15 rebounds, Lewis played all but three minutes in the ‘Hounds’ third-straight
win.
Romond Jenkins, Tarleton State University, was right at his season averages over the weekend and nearly
averaged a double-double with 11 points and 8.5 rebounds. Jenkins scored 9 points and grabbed 10 rebounds
with a block and steal against Colorado State-Pueblo. Jenkins helped limit Emmanuel to a season-low 47 points
in a 28-point win. The visiting Lions shot 27 percent thanks to Jenkins’ 3 blocks and seven rebounds to go with
13 points. Emmanuel came in averaging 72 points per game.
Thomas Tshikaya, Angelo State University, headed the Rams defensive efforts in the team’s only game of the
week. The senior out of France grabbed a team second six boards. He also closed out the night with a pair of
steals. He assisted the offense dropping a team third 12 points against St. Mary’s, going 4-8 from inside the arc
and 3-3 from the free throw line.
Dorian Armstrong, Texas A&M University - Commerce, again showed up on the defensive end for the Lions
in all three appearances. He had five steals and three blocks and averaged 5.0 rebounds in limited minutes
for A&M-Commerce. Armstrong shot 54 percent from the field as well while averaging 21 minutes per game.
His best game came against Emmanuel College. He had 16 points and 10 rebounds and had four steals on the
defensive end in 31 minutes.
Carl White, West Texas A&M University, had another big weekend for the Buffs as they moved to 8-1 overall
with home wins over Oklahoma Panhandle State, Wayne State College and Southern Nazarene at the 2016
Pak-A-Sak WT Thanksgiving Classic in Canyon. The sophomore averaged 8.0 points per game as he went 7-of-
12 (58.3%) from the floor including 2-of-7 (28.6%) from deep and 8-of-10 (80%) from the free throw line to go
along with 15 rebounds (six offensive, nine defensive) to average 5.0 per contest to go along with 16 assists, five
blocks and nine steals. White dished out a career high 10 assists on Tuesday night against OPSU and made the
defensive stops of the weekend on Saturday afternoon as the Chicago native rejected back-to-back attempts by
Southern Nazarene late in regulation en route to a 82-81 overtime win by the Buffs.
Robert Stevenson, Texas A&M University - Kingsville, held down the interior this week as he lead the
Javelinas with seven blocks. Stevenson is the staple behind the Javelinas scoring defense which is ranks second
in the LSC, allowing opponents to score only 63.7 PPG. The sophomores best defensive game of the weekend
came against Southeastern Oklahoma State where the big registered a career-high four swats and a steal.

Angelo State
The No. 16 Rams downed St. Mary’s, 83-65, in its only game of the week. ASU remains undefeated at 3-0 as it
heads into a rematch with the Rattlers on the road.
Cameron
The Cameron men went 2-0 during the Thanksgiving break as they took down Rogers State 78-68 and then
Dallas Baptist 76-70. Against RSU, the Aggies overcame a nine-point halftime deficit and used a big second
half from JV Long and Stacey Lambert to get the win. Long finished with a game high 21 points, while Lambert
recorded 13 points and Trey Hall and Tyler Williams added 12 points each. As a team, CU shot 44 percent from
the field and 40 percent from behind the three point arc. In the win over DBU, Long came up big again, scoring
16 points while missing only one shot. Tyus Momoh chipped in 15 points, while Hall scored 10. Cameron shot
46 percent from the field and hit 8-19 from long range.
Eastern New Mexico
The Eastern New Mexico men’s basketball team picked up a pair of close wins at the PAK-A-SAK Thanksgiving
Classic hosted by West Texas A&M. Senior guard CoRnell Neal knocked down a pair of game-winning shots and
led the team with 22.5 points/game against Southern Nazarene and Wayne State. Eastern’s Chris Lewis was a
monster on the glass in the tournament, pulling down 25 rebounds, including 13 offensive boards in the pair of
wins. The three-straight wins by the ‘Hounds are the most since January of 2013.
Midwestern State
Midwestern State improved to 6-1 for the third time during the Nelson Haggerty era (since 2011-12) taking
wins over Western State Colorado and Colorado Mesa. Five of MSU’s six wins this season have come by double
figures. The Mustangs have won their last 10 games played away from D.L. Ligon Coliseum dating back to a 66-
65 loss at Tarleton State on Feb. 3, 2016. MSU is now 10-3 in games played in Colorado dating back to the start
of the 2011-12 season. The Mustangs are 16-8 in early season classics since the start of the 2011-12 season.
Tarleton State
No. 7 Tarleton went 1-1 over the weekend, dropping its first game of the season to Colorado State-Pueblo,
79-78. The Texans followed up with a 28-point win over Emmanuel, 75-47. Deshawn Riddick led the team in
scoring over the weekend with 18 points per game, including a 27-point outburst against CSU-Pueblo. Tarleton
averaged 76.5 points per game while holding its opponents to 63 points. The Texans will open Lone Star
Conference play against Midwestern State on Thursday, Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m. in Wisdom Gym.
Texas A&M-Commerce
The Lions picked up three wins last week and are 6-0 heading into the first game of their conference season.

The team won by an average of nearly eight points and got to the foul line an average of 25 times per game.
The Lions took care of the basketball, averaging a plus-8 in turnover margin. They caused 54 total turnovers,
including 34 steals. They gave up just 30 turnovers. The team is second overall in scoring and has the best
scoring margin in the Lone Star Conference. They lead the conference in field goal percentage and they also
lead in turnover differential. They average a plus-8.5 turnover differential, over plus-3 better than any other
team in the conference. They also lead the conference in steals average, with 12.2 per game.
Texas A&M-Kingsville
The Javelinas dropped both of their games in the Emerald Beach Thanksgiving Classic to Ouachita Baptist and
Southeastern Oklahoma State. The Javelinas will face St. Mary’s University in the Alamo City on November 29
before returning home on December 10 to play St. Edward’s.
UT Permian Basin
UT Permian Basin men’s basketball went 2-1 on the week, defeating Sul Ross 112-88 and coming back from
a 20-point second half deficit to defeat Ouachita Baptist 94-88 in overtime while dropping a 79-62 contest to
Southeastern Oklahoma State 79-62. James McPherson led the Falcons with 56 points, averaging 18.7 over the
three games. The 7-1 Falcons currently rank second in the nation averaging 101.8 points per game.
West Texas A&M
West Texas A&M continued their hot start to the 2016-17 campaign this past weekend as they registered
home wins over Wayne State College and Southern Nazarene during the Pak-A-Sak WT Thanksgiving Classic in
Canyon to improve to 8-1 to mark the program’s best start to a season since 2011-12. The Buffs were led by
Tournament MVP David Chavlovich who averaged 24.0 points per game in the wins followed by Eric Golightly
Jr. (13.0/game) and Joseph Prince (12.0/game) while Carl White grabbed 5.5 rebounds per contest and rejected
five shots. The Buffs open up Lone Star Conference action on Thursday night as they host the Mustangs of
Western New Mexico with tipoff set for 7:30 p.m. at the First United Bank Center in Canyon.
Western New Mexico
The Mustangs didn’t play this week as their last game was against New Mexico Highlands on Nov. 18 when
the Cowboys took the 77-70 victory. They face the Cowboys again today before opening conference play.
Sophomore Jordan Enriquez has led the team in scoring in all four games and is averaging 19.8 points per
contest. Junior Latrell Spivey averages a double-double with 13.3 points and 14.0 rebounds, with a double-
double in each of his past three games.
