LSC MEN’S BASKETBALL
Texas A&M-Commerce and UT Permian Basin remain unbeaten in Lone Star Conference play and top the standings at 6-
0 and 5-0 respectively.
LSC play continues this week with action on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
The LSC men have an 85-58 overall record so far this season. In the NCAA South Central Region, the men’s teams
are currently 20-14 combined versus Heartland Conference teams and 16-6 against the Rocky Mountain Athletic
Conference.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
OFFENSIVE
Daeshon Francis, UT Permian Basin, SR, Guard, Indianapolis, Ind., Howard College
Francis led the Falcons to three wins, averaging 21.7 points in victories against Jarvis Christian, Cameron and
Midwestern State. He led UTPB with 24 points, four blocks and three steals in a 95-88 win over CU. Francis came back
two days later with 28 points on 12-17 shooting (70.6 percent) from the field and five assists in an 88-71 win over MSU.
He now leads the Lone Star Conference in scoring, averaging 21.5 points on the season and is fourth in the league in field
goal percentage, hitting 52.3 percent of his shot attempts this year.
DEFENSIVE
Dorian Armstrong, Texas A&M University-Commerce, SR, Forward, Detroit, Mich., Mt. Clemens HS
Armstrong had a major impact on the defensive end for the No. 18 Lions in both of their wins last week. He had a two
steals and a block to go along with eight rebounds in the Lions' 73-62 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville. Armstrong then
had eight rebounds, four steals, and a block against Angelo State in the 84-73 victory. He was a major part of the Lion
defense that helped overcome a 17-point first half deficit versus ASU. Armstrong helped hold opponents to 67.5 points
per game. Armstrong is fourth in the LSC in rebounding (7.5 per game).

Devante Pullum, Midwestern State University, averaged 18.7 points and 4.3 assists per game in a tough three-game
Lone Star Conference road stretch. The senior from Little Elm poured in 24 points on 8-of-10 shooting with three 3-
pointers in an 83-76 loss at No. 11 West Texas A&M on Thursday, then connected on 6-of-10 shots with three more
triples to finish with 18 points and six assists in an 88-71 setback at UT Permian Basin. As the primary defender, he
played a key role in holding WT's David Chavlovich and UTPB's James McPherson to a combined 13 points under scoring
average. The 5-10 guard scored 14 points and handed out four assists to lead MSU to a 72-68 win at Texas A&M-
Kingsville to snap the team's six game LSC road skid. Pullum is averaging 18 points and 5.8 assists a game during LSC play
while shooting 50.7 percent from the field and 84.4 percent from the charity stripe.
Jordan Evans, West Texas A&M University, continued an impressive start to the season as the he helped lead the
Buffs to three wins and run the home winning streak to 29-straight games dating back to the 2015-16 season. Evans
went 17 of 35 from the field (.486) with 13 triples and six free throws for a team-best 17.7 average, while averaging 4.3
rebounds per game. He tallied 23 points in the 93-59 win over Cameron on Saturday to lead the team and had 13 points
against Midwestern State as the Buffs improved to 4-1 in LSC play. Evans has 1,158 career points as he moved into 10th
all-time in school history in scoring. Evans' 13 triples gives him a team-best 63 for the season.
James Kirksey, Angelo State University, led the Rams offensive efforts this week as he put up a team leading 35 total
points. This included 21 points against Tarleton State as ASU downed the Texans at home for the first time since
February of 2001. In this game, the junior marked 50 percent or better from short-range, from 3-point range and from
the free throw line. For the week, He was 13-27 from inside the arch and 8-14 from the stripe. Kirksey also co-led the
squad in ball distribution with six total assists. Defensively, the Pennsylvanian headed the Rams with 17 total rebounds,
as well as recorded a team second three steals and a block to his name.
Davis Wade, Western New Mexico, found his stroke from outside the arc as he sunk nine three-pointers, making 47
percent in the two games against Embry Riddle and Eastern New Mexico as he piled up 33 points. In the 20-point win
against the Eagles, the junior connected on six three-pointers to post 19 points, along with four rebounds and an assist.
He went for another double-digit game against Eastern New Mexico with 14 points and added a rebound and a steal. He
went a perfect 6-6 from the foul line and all nine of the field goals he made for the week were all three-pointers.
Aaron Horne, Texas A&M University-Commerce, had the best week of his A&M-Commerce career last week. He
averaged 16.0 points while shooting 65 percent from the field. He had 11 points in the Lions' 73-62 win over the
Javelinas. Horne then had his best game of the season on Saturday against Angelo State in the Lions' come-from-behind
win. He led all scorers with 21 points, helping to fuel the Lions' comeback after falling behind by 17 in the first half. He
made three shots from behind the arc and was 8-of-11 overall with six rebounds.
3. Zach Parker, Eastern New Mexico University, continued to be a focal point for the Greyhound offense, as the
Hounds won their last two games. Parker closed December with a 20-point effort at Lubbock Christian, in which he
connected on four of his six three-point attempts. The junior guard followed with a 12-point effort in a LSC win over
Western New Mexico. Parker added two assists and a steal in Eastern's victory over the Mustangs.
Josh Hawley, Tarleton State University, was the most consistent scorer for Tarleton, scoring 15 points in each of the
last three games. Hawley also averaged a team-leading nine rebounds, had 11 offensive rebounds and had eight blocks
in three games. Hawley recorded his fifth and sixth double-double of the season with 15 points, 11 rebounds and 4
blocks against Angelo State. Hawley followed with 15 points, 12 rebounds and 3 blocks against Texas A&M-Kingsville.
For the week, Hawley shot 47 percent from the floor.
Sammy Allen, UT Permian Basin, helped the Falcons to three more wins over the past week as UTPB defeated Jarvis
Christian 84-64, Cameron 95-88 and Midwestern State 88-71. Allen grabbed double-digit rebounds in each of the first
two games, collecting 13 boards against JC and 17 against CU to average 12.7 rebounds for the week. He leads the LSC
with 11.8 rebounds per game and is first in the nation averaging 9.92 defensive rebounds per game.
Ryan Quaid, West Texas A&M University, had another outstanding couple of games as he averaged a double-double
in three Buff wins as the team stretched its school-best home winning streak to 29 games with wins over Northern New
Mexico, Midwestern State and Cameron. Quaid went 12 of 19 from the field (.632), while draining one triple and six free
throws. He averaged 10.7 rebounds per game with three double-digit rebounding games and two double-doubles and
eight double-doubles for the season to lead the team. He had 10 assists on the week with three blocks in three starts.
Quaid and the Buff "D" helped hold the opposition to just .366 from the field and 70 points per game, while WT
averaged 94 points per game and shot .454 from the field. Quaid eclipsed the 500 career rebounding mark as he has
520 for his career, along with 808 career points.
Latrell Spivey, Western New Mexico, nearly came away with a pair of double-doubles, as he scored 15 points and
brought down 12 rebounds in the win over Embry Riddle. He then added 10 points and eight rebounds against the
Greyhounds. He shot well from the field making 12-19 (63) and added four assists. It was his fourth double-double on
the year and he now has two in his last three games.
Josh Hawley, Tarleton State University, led Tarleton in rebounds (9.0) and total blocks (8) while also averaging 15
points per game over the last three games. Hawley had a double-double against Angelo State (15 points, 11 rebounds, 4
blocks) and against Texas A&M-Kingsville (15 points, 12 rebounds, 3 blocks). Hawley continues to lead the LSC with 2.3
blocks per game. Hawley and the Texans held teams to 67.7 points for the week, including holding No. 2 Queens to a
season-low 64 points.
Brandon Williams, Angelo State University, headed the Rams defense this week as he pulled down a team leading
11 total defensive boards. The senior leader grabbed 16 total rebounds, 10 of which assisted the Rams to its first victory
against TSU in wisdom Gym since February of 2001. Tallying three blocks for the week, Williams led the squad in the
department. In addition, he pocketed a pair of steals. Offensively, he turned in a team third 23 points. Williams was 53.3
percent from short-range and 87.5 percent from the stripe.
Devin Pullum, Eastern New Mexico University, registered a pair of steals to lead a defensive effort which led ENMU
to wins over Western New Mexico and Lubbock Christian. He had three defensive boards at Lubbock Christian to help
limit second-chance points, and poured in 12 points to help Eastern's cause. Pullum followed with two defensive
rebounds, a steal, and 20 points in the Greyhounds' win over Western New Mexico.

Angelo State
Angelo State improved to 11-3 overall and 3-2 in the conference as the Rams downed Tarleton State at home for the
first time since 2001. They then fell just short of an upset in Commerce as they fell to the Lions. ASU will return to the
4. Stephens Arena at the Junell Center this coming week to host a pair of nationally ranked teams in West Texas A&M and
UT-Permian Basin.

Eastern New Mexico
The Eastern New Mexico University men's basketball team is on a two-game win streak after contests against Lubbock
Christian and Western New Mexico. The duo of Zach Parker and Devin Pullum each had a 20-point effort over that span.
The critical LSC win over WNMU put the Greyhounds into a battle for a potential playoff berth as the conference
schedule resumed. This week, Eastern will hit the road for crucial LSC games at Cameron and Midwestern State.
Midwestern State
Midwestern State snapped a six-game Lone Star Conference road skid with a 72-68 win at Texas A&M-Kingsville on Dec.
30th... The Mustangs opened 2018 with a pair of losses to nationally ranked teams on the road -- falling to No. 11 West
Texas A&M (83-76) on Jan. 4th and to No. 8 UT Permian Basin (88-71) on Jan. 6th... MSU is 15-18 (.455) against
nationally ranked opposition under Nelson Haggerty.... MSU has lost its last six games against teams ranked in the NABC
Top 25 since defeating No. 10 Tarleton State on Jan. 14, 2015... Senior guard Devante Pullum continues to perform at a
high level averaging a team-high 18.7 points on 58.6 percent shooting including a 7-of-14 (.500) effort from beyond the
arc while shooting 15-of-17 from the free throw line... Pullum is fourth in the LSC in scoring with 18 points per game
during league play and second in assists dishing out 5.8 per game... Senior guard Brandon Neel averaged 17.3 points and
7.3 rebounds per game in the three games coming out of the break... Neel is fifth overall in the league in scoring at 17.5
points per game and 11th in rebounding at 6.1 boards a contest... Junior forward Wanaah Bail has scored in double
figures in two of his last three games finishing with 12 points at Texas A&M-Kingsville and UT Permian Basin... Bail
averaged 9.3 points and 5.0 rebounds with five blocked shots and three steals in 17.7 minutes per game over the last
three games while going 13-of-14 from the free throw line...
Tarleton State

Texas A&M-Commerce
The No. 18 Lions continued their winning ways with two wins last week. They defeated A&M-Kingsville by 11 on
Thursday and beat Angelo State by 11 on Saturday. Against the Rams, the Lions overcame a 17-point deficit in the first
half, the second time the Lions have overcome at least a 15-point lead against an LSC opponent. A&M-Commerce will
host Tarleton State on Tuesday.
Texas A&M-Kingsville
0-3 since Dec. 20.
UT Permian Basin
No. 8 UT Permian Basin picked up three wins over Jarvis Christian, Cameron and Midwestern State. Amari Bryant scored
22 points and Sammy Allen grabbed 13 rebounds in an 84-64 win over Jarvis Christian. UTPB out-scored Cameron 50-38
in the second half of a seven point, 95-88 win over the Aggies. Daeshon Francis led all players with 24 points and Allen
recorded his fourth double double of the season with 15 points and 17 rebounds. Francis again led UTPB in scoring with
28 points in an 88-71 win over Midwestern State.
5. West Texas A&M
The West Texas A&M men's basketball team improved to 14-1 on the year with three wins over Northern New Mexico,
Midwestern State and Cameron...The Buffs dominated all three teams, outscoring the opposition 94.0 to 70.0, while
outshooting the opponents .454 to .366...WT posted 106 points against Northern New Mexico, 83 versus Midwestern
Sate and 93 against Cameron as WT has scored 80 or more points in all but two games this season, while averaging 91.1
to lead the LSC for the season...WT has scored over 100 points four times this season also...Senior Jordan Evans
continued an impressive start to the season as the he helped lead the Buffs to three wins and run the home winning

91 against Eastern New Mexico in a high-scoring affair. Davis Wade led the offense with nine three-pointers, while CJ
Vanbeekum and Willie McCray added 28 points apiece. Latrell Spivey paced the defense with 20 rebounds and went four
his fourth double-double against Embry Riddle. Wade found his stroke from outside the arc as he sunk nine three-
pointers, making 45 percent in the two games against Embry Riddle and Eastern New Mexico as he piled up 33 points. In
