LSC MEN’S BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
The men's bracket is set for the Lone Star Conference Basketball Championship March 1-4 at Dr Pepper Arena in Frisco,
Texas.
Eight teams have advanced to the LSC Championship Tournament and the postseason begins with first-round games
on Friday, March 2.
West Texas A&M earned the LSC title for the seventh time with a 15-3 league record.
Tickets are available through Ticketmaster outlets and Ticketmaster.com, as well as the Dr Pepper Arena box office.
Single-session tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students.
All games on Friday and Saturday will be streamed live free of charge through the LSC's GameCentral portal
(http://portal.stretchinternet.com/lonestar). In addition to supporting desktop and laptop computers, GameCentral's
responsive design will support mobile devices as well (iPad, iPhones, Android).
Sunday’s championship finals will be streamed on ESPN3 and available through the ESPN App as part of the Division
II Basketball Showcase. The women’s title game tips off at 1 p.m., with the men’s championship to follow at 3:30 p.m.
LSC MEN’S BASKETBALL
The LSC men have a 154-121 overall record so far this season. In the NCAA South Central Region, the men’s teams are
currently 21-14 combined versus Heartland Conference teams and 16-6 against the Rocky Mountain Athletic
Conference.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
OFFENSIVE
Willie Rooks, Texas A&M University-Commerce, JR, Guard, Houston, Texas, North Forest HS
Rooks led the Lions in scoring in both of their wins against nationally ranked opponents last week. He shot 53 percent
from the field and better than 50 percent from behind the arc. He had 13 points in the Lions' 67-66 win over No. 7 West
Texas A&M, draining four threes. He then had 24 points in the Lions' dominant 29-point win over No. 12 UT Permian
Basin. He hit five threes in the game and also had four assists. Rooks is sixth in the LSC in scoring average, seventh in
field goal percentage, second in three-point percentage and sixth in minutes.
DEFENSIVE
Daquane Willford, Texas A&M University-Commerce, SR, Guard, East Chicago, Indiana, Earle HS

2. Willford helped the Lions knock off two nationally ranked opponents last week and was a force on the defensive end. He
had two blocks and five steals and helped the Lions hold opponents to just 38 percent shooting from the field and 21
percent from behind the arc. Willford had a block and added a team-high 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting in the team's one
point win over No. 7 West Texas A&M. He then had a block and five steals against No. 12 UT Permian Basin in the Lions'
29-point win. He also averaged 6.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists, using his defensive rebounds to help create in transition.

OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
David Chavlovich, West Texas A&M University, capped an outstanding regular season averaging 23.5 points per
game in a split at Texas A&M-Commerce and at Tarleton State as the Buffs clinched their first outright conference
regular season title since 1994. Chavlovich went 15 of 33 from the field (.455), while going 6 of 17 from beyond the arc
(.353) and 11 of 14 from the line (.786), while averaging 3.5 rebounds, recorded 10 assists, seven steals and one block.
He scored seven of final nine points in the 82-76 thriller at Tarleton State to help claim the title for the Buffs and mark

3. the first win in Stephenville since 2009 for WT. He is just 67 points from tying the all-time career record for scoring in
the LSC with 2,380 points as Chavlovich has 2,313.
Corinthian Ramsey, Tarleton State University, averaged 22 points per game in a pair of games against UT Permian
Basin and West Texas A&M. Ramsey's 20 points helped top No. 12 UTPB 78-54. Ramsey followed with 24 points in a
near upset of No. 7 WT, 82-76.
Ja'Michael Brown, Angelo State University, headed the Rams offense in its final pair of regular season games. The
junior point guard averaged 16 points for the week including a team leading 23-point performance in ASU's overtime
win against ENMU. It was also during this game that Brown recorded a season high nine assists. He also assisted the
defense with a team leading four steals for the game.
Shawn Shelton, Eastern New Mexico University, averaged 13.5 points per game last week and connected on .619
percent of his shots from the floor. His efforts allowed the Hounds to take Angelo State to overtime and clinch a LSC
tournament spot with a thrilling two-point win at Texas A&M-Kingsville. Against the Javelinas he shot 60 percent from
the floor and scored 12 points as ENMU rallied from an eight-point deficit.
CJ Vanbeekum, Western New Mexico, posted 25 points, three rebounds, two assists and two blocks in the two
games this week. He came through with some big shots in the win against Angelo State as he tallied 15 points, making 6-
10 from the field and 3-6 from three. He connected on a pair of late three-pointers to help fuel the win. He added 10
points on 4-7 shooting and 2-4 from three against Texas A&M-Kingsville.
Josh Hawley, Tarleton State University, led the Texans with 10.5 rebounds, 2 steals and 1.5 blocks in a pair of games
against UT Permian Basin and West Texas A&M. Hawley grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds, blocked three shots and had
three steals in a 78-54 win over No. 12 UT Permian Basin. It was the lowest point total by UTPB all season and Hawley
helped hold the Falcons to 35 points below their season average. After being down by eight at halftime, Hawley and the
Texans held the Falcons to 19 points in the second half. Hawley followed with a game-high nine rebounds against No. 7
West Texas A&M.
Ryan Quaid, West Texas A&M University, had a great week as he averaged 14.5 points, while leading the team from
the field on 13 of 18 (.722) with one triple and averaged 8.0 rebounds in two games where the Buffs won the outright
LSC regular season title Saturday in a thrilling 82-76 win at Tarleton State. Quaid scored 18 points and eight rebounds in
the contest as he now is just 16 points from becoming the second player to score 1,000 career points this season and
third player to hit a scoring mark. He scored in double figures in both games, while recording four assists one block and
one steal for the week.
Jon-Reese Woodson, Western New Mexico, went for 18 points and 14 rebounds, along with three steals for the
week. In the comeback win against Angelo State, he had a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds, with nine
coming on the defensive end. He went 7-13 from the field and swiped two steals and dished out an assist.
Davion Cole-Johnson, Angelo State University, pulling down 11 boards for the week, he headed the Rams defensive
efforts. The junior also headed the squad with four blocks on the week. Offensively, he also put up 23 points for the pair
of games averaging 11.5 points per game.
Zach Parker, Eastern New Mexico University, blocked three shots and grabbed five rebounds to lead a Greyhound
defensive effort which took Angelo State to overtime and edged Texas A&M-Kingsville for a LSC playoff spot. ENMU's
defense limited the Javelinas to just 26 second-half points, with four free throw attempts. He had five points in the game
and blocked a shot late in the first half. At Angelo State, he blocked two shots and poured in 23 points.

Angelo State
The Rams completed its regular season with an 18-10 overall record and a 9-9 record in conference play. Angelo State
started the week with an overtime win against Eastern New Mexico, and then fell short against Western New Mexico.

4. This secured ASU the fifth seed in the Lone Star Conference Championship Tournament. The team will kick of the
tournament with Texas A&M-Commerce on Friday, March 2 at 6 p.m.

Eastern New Mexico
The Eastern New Mexico men's basketball team closed the regular season in strong fashion, taking Angelo State to
overtime and edging Texas A&M-Kingsville by two points. The rally from an eight-point deficit to defeat the Javelinas
marked the fourth time this season the Hounds won after trailing by at least five points. After a one-year absence, the
Hounds will enter the LSC Tournament as the eighth seed and take on West Texas A&M.
Midwestern State
Midwestern State closes the 2017-18 regular season with an 11-17 record going 7-11 in Lone Star Conference play... The
Mustangs head into the LSC Postseason Tournament as the No. 7 seed and will face UT Permian Basin in the opening
round for the second consecutive season... MSU boasts a 28-10 (.734) over 17 LSC Postseason Tournament
appearances... The Mustangs are 12-5 in the quarterfinal round, 9-3 in the semifinals and 7-2 in the final round... The
Mustangs claimed LSC Postseason Tournament titles in 1999, 2000, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2016... Midwestern
closed the season with an 80-72 win over Cameron Tuesday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum... The Mustangs closed the
regular season with wins in five of their last eight games with two of the three losses coming by three points or less...
Senior guard Brandon Neel has scored in double figures in each of his last 20 games... Neel completed his 11th
performance with at least 20 points going for 27 points and eight rebounds against the Aggies... Neel ranks third in the
LSC scoring at 19.2 points per game and needs 59 points to finish his two-year career at MSU with 1,000 points...
Sophomore guard Logan Hicks buried four 3-pointers to finish with a season-high 20 points against Cameron... Senior
guard Devante Pullum scored 17 pionts and dished out seven assists against the Aggies... Junior forward Ola Ayodele
swatted a season-high five shots, made two steals and racked up seven rebounds in 30 minutes...
Tarleton State

Texas A&M-Commerce
The Lions posted two wins over top 25 ranked teams last week. They defeated No. 7 West Texas A&M 67-66 on
Thursday and then beat No. 12 UT Permian Basin by 29 on Saturday. The Lions finished the regular season tied for third
place in the conference standings. The team is the fourth seed in the LSC tournament and will face Angelo State in the
first round on Friday.

1-1 last week.
UT Permian Basin
UT Permian Basin dropped its final two regular season games on the road this past week. UTPB got out to a good start
against Tarleton State on Thursday but struggled in the second half to fall 78-54. Daeshon Francis went 12-12 from the
free throw line scoring 21 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. UTPB couldn't get it going against Texas
A&M - Commerce on Saturday falling 85-56. Josh Morris had a team-high 18 points. Francis led UTPB with 16.5 points

5. per game along with seven rebounds a game and 11 assists and eight steals. He also went 22-26 from the free throw
line for the week. Morris added in 12 points per game and Sammy Allen grabbed 12.5 rebounds per game.
West Texas A&M
The No. 7 West Texas A&M-men's basketball team finished the regular season with a 25-3 record and a 15-3 mark in
Lone Star Conference play earning its first outright LSC regular season title since 1994 with a gritty 82-76 win at Tarleton
State coupled with a UT Permian Basin loss at Texas A&M-Commerce...The Buffs will be the top-seed in the upcoming
Lone Star Conference Championship, beginning Friday in Frisco, Texas, at Dr Pepper Arena when WT battles Eastern New
Mexico at 8:30 p.m...The Buffs pulled out the first win at Tarleton State since 2009 with a hard-fought performance on
Saturday as senior David Chavlovich scored 24 points, including seven of the final nine en route to the win...He is just 67
points from tying the all-time LSC career scoring mark of 2,380 points...Junior Ryan Quaid scored 18 points on Saturday
and sits just 16 points from 1,000 for his career...He would become the third Buff this season to achieve 1,000 or 2,000
career points as Jordan Evans reached 1,000 career points and Chavlovich marked 2,000 both earlier this season...Fourth
year head coach Tom Brown won his 89th game at WT on Saturday and his first in Stephenville as he now is 89-34...WT
will be looking for its first LSC Tournament win under Brown since he became head coach (0-3).
Western New Mexico
WNMU ended the season on a high note coming back to defeat Angelo State, 77-72. It was the first road conference win
since early January, 2015 and marked the most wins in a season since 2012-13. CJ Vanbeekum and Haneef Vaughn-
Wilson each posted 20 or more points for the week and Jon-Reese Woodson scored 18 points and brought down 14
rebounds. Woodson went for 18 points and 14 rebounds, along with three steals for the week. In the comeback win
against Angelo State, he had a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds, with nine coming on the defensive end.
