West Texas A&M took sole possession of first place in the women’s standings with Lone Star Conference wins

Angelo State tops the men’s standings despite its first LSC setback to Tarleton State last week.
This week’s schedule includes eight LSC contests for the men, and 10 on the women’s side.
The LSC men have a 122-70 overall record so far this season. In the NCAA South Central Region, the men’s

Miles Gatewood, West Texas A&M University, SR, Guard, Portland, Ore., Westview HS
Gatewood led the Buffs with 19 points on Wednesday to a 73-60 upset victory over Midwestern State at home.

MEN’S DEFENSIVE
Nosa Ebomwonyi, Tarleton State University, FR, Guard, Pflugerville, Texas, Pflugerville HS
Ebomwonyi put on a defensive showcase from the guard position as the true freshman lifted No. 11 Tarleton
State to its ninth straight win last week, including a victory over No. 4 Angelo State Wednesday night in
Stephenville. In addition to grabbing a team-high seven rebounds against the Rams, Ebomwonyi stepped up
when it counted by locking down the Rams’ leading scorer over the final six minutes of Wednesday’s win. Over
the final six minutes, Ebomwonyi kept the top-scoring Ram from adding any more points down the stretch. The
freshman led the team with 11 total rebounds for the week, including nine on the defensive glass, to go along
with two assists and 10 total points. As a team, Ebonwonyi and the Tarleton defense held its two opponents
to a combined .368 shooting percentage and 69.0 points per game – including a defensive effort on No. 4
Angelo State that saw Ebonwonyi and the Texans hold the Rams, who entered the game averaging 89.1 points
per game and a .545 shooting percentage from the floor, to just 68 points and a field goal percentage of .368.

the win. It was one of her two steals for the week. Oliver went 6 of 9 from the field and 4 of 5 from the line.
She had nine defensive rebounds for the week with five against Midwestern State and four at Cameron as the
league-leading Lady Buffs ran their winning streak to 11 games. Oliver also had three assists and one block.
The senior helped the WT defense held its two opponents below their scoring average allowing a combined
61.0 points per game.

averaged 13.5 points per game over two games to lead the Texans to nine straight wins, including a victory
over No. 4 Angelo State Wednesday night in Wisdom Gym. Reed had his first 20-point game with Tarleton
State as he led Tarleton over Angelo State in the first win against a top-5 ranked team in Wisdom Gym since
defeating Northeastern State in 2003. Reed scored 12 of Tarleton’s first 14 points against the Rams to put the
Texans on top from the get-go as Tarleton never looked back en route to the win over the Rams. In two wins
against Angelo State and Texas A&M-Kingsville, Reed was 10-14 from the floor for a .714 shooting percentage,
including 2-3 from beyond the arc, and 5-7 at the charity stripe. He grabbed nine rebounds, dished out two
assists, swiped one steal and blocked three shots in addition to scoring 27 total points.
Darrell Williams, Texas A&M University - Commerce, returned to form with a pair of double-doubles during
the week. He scored 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds while shooting 63.6 percent from the floor in the
Lions 83-74 win over Kingsville. He followed up with 27 points and 13 rebound in the Lions win over South

helping the team to a 16-9 record and 6-5 mark in league play. He tallied 13 points and nine rebounds in a home

Cameron and Midwestern State. She averaged 10.5 points and 8.5 rebounds and had a 14-point, nine-rebound
outing at Midwestern State.
Abigail Leaupepe-Tele, Texas A&M University - Commerce, had an extremely effective week with very
little playing time in which to work as the Lions won both of their games this week. Logging only 16 and 18
minutes against Texas A&M-Kingsville and Angelo State, respectively, the senior forward averaged 7.5 points,
6.5 rebounds, 2 blocks and 1.5 steals. Leaupepe-Tele was part of an effort that limited the Javelinas to 5 of 35

points per game and leads the team and conference
with 120 assists and 60 steals.
Cameron
1-1 last week.
Eastern New Mexico
The Eastern New Mexico men’s basketball team
fell to Midwestern State and Cameron this week,
falling to 0-11 in the Lone Star Conference. Against
Cameron Eastern came out slow to start the first half,
but managed to survive a 19-to-11 run by the Aggies
and hold a two point lead going into the half, 28-
26. After an intense back and forth second half, the
Greyhounds found themselves holding a two point
lead with 5:45 left in the game. Both teams started to
struggle shooting from the floor after that, but after
several unfortunate turnovers by Eastern, Cameron
started to build a lead and with too little time on the
clock, the Aggies would take the game in the closing
minutes, 55-47. Eastern struggled from behind the
arc, going 3-for-21 from deep. While the Aggies
only went 3-of-9 on three pointers, their 45 percent
shooting from the floor, compared to the Greyhounds
32.1 percent, ended up being the deciding factor.
Against Midwestern the Greyhounds again struggled
from behind the arc, shooting only 16.7 percent
from deep and 30.4 percent from the field, while the
Mustangs shot a blistering 45 percent from the three
point line as a team. At the seven minute mark in the
first half, the Greyhounds found themselves down by
23 points to the Mustangs. Despite what seemed to
be a lost cause, Eastern showed just how tough they
are by cutting Midwestern’s lead in half in the closing
minutes of the first period. Lawrence Domingo caught
fire, scoring nine of the Greyhounds 12 points during
a 12-0 run to bring the Mustangs lead back to 11
points. Unfortunately, Midwestern wasn’t finished in
the first and managed to add another seven points
before heading into the locker room at halftime, up
36-19. The second half saw much of the same, with
Midwestern coming out scoring at will. Then once
again the Greyhounds came surging back, finishing
the half only being outscored 28-23. Eastern did
manage to hold the Mustangs to 64 points, 10 lower
than their season average of 74.9 pointers per game.
For the week Eastern shot .313 percent (7-45) from
three point range compared to their opponents .467
percent (12-29). John Gilliam led the Greyhounds
with a combined 28 points and Domingo added 22
over the two games.

In addition to grabbing a team-high seven rebounds against the Rams, Ebomwonyi stepped up when it counted by locking down the Rams’ leading scorer over the final six minutes of Wednesday’s win. Over the final six minutes, Ebomwonyi kept the top-scoring Ram from adding any more points down the stretch. The freshman led the team with 11 total rebounds for the week, including nine on the defensive glass, to go along with two assists and 10 total points. As a team, Ebonwonyi and the Tarleton defense held its two opponents to a combined .368 shooting percentage and 69.0 points per game – including a defensive effort on No. 4 Angelo State that saw Ebonwonyi and the Texans hold the Rams, who entered the game averaging 89.1 points per game and a .545 shooting percentage from the floor, to just 68 points and a field goal percentage of .368. EJ Reed, Tarleton State University, stepped up in a big way for No. 11 Tarleton State last week as the junior averaged 13.5 points per game over two games to lead the Texans to nine straight wins, including a victory over No. 4 Angelo State Wednesday night in Wisdom Gym. Reed had his first 20-point game with Tarleton State as he led Tarleton over Angelo State in the first win against a top-5 ranked team in Wisdom Gym since defeating Northeastern State in 2003. Reed scored 12 of Tarleton’s first 14 points against the Rams to put the Texans on top from the get-go as Tarleton never looked back en route to the win over the Rams. In two wins against Angelo State and Texas A&M-Kingsville, Reed was 10-14 from the floor for a .714 shooting percentage, including 2-3 from beyond the arc, and 5-7 at the charity stripe. He grabbed nine rebounds, dished out two assists, swiped one steal and blocked three shots in addition to scoring 27 total points. Darrell Williams, Texas A&M University - Commerce, returned to form with a pair of double-doubles during the week. He scored 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds while shooting 63.6 percent from the floor in the Lions 83-74 win over Kingsville. He followed up with 27 points and 13 rebound in the Lions win over South Dakota Mines Saturday. Against the Hardrockers he made 11 of his 19 shots both for season highs. He also swatted away one shot in each game. He scored in double digits for the 20th time this season and 20 points for the 13th time. He has recorded a double-double in 15 games and is the only player in the LSC averaging a double-double. Antjuan Ball, West Texas A&M University, propelled the Buffs defensively in two big LSC wins last week, helping the team to a 16-9 record and 6-5 mark in league play. He tallied 13 points and nine rebounds in a home win over Midwestern State on Wednesday before grabbing his fifth double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds in a 15-point victory over Cameron on the road. Jasmine Johnson, Eastern New Mexico University, shot a team best .444 from the floor last week against Cameron and Midwestern State. She averaged 10.5 points and 8.5 rebounds and had a 14-point, nine-rebound outing at Midwestern State. Abigail Leaupepe-Tele, Texas A&M University - Commerce, had an extremely effective week with very little playing time in which to work as the Lions won both of their games this week. Logging only 16 and 18 minutes against Texas A&M-Kingsville and Angelo State, respectively, the senior forward averaged 7.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2 blocks and 1.5 steals. Leaupepe-Tele was part of an effort that limited the Javelinas to 5 of 35 shooting in the second half of their game, and limited opponents to a combined 31.2 percent shooting on the week. • 3. LONE STAR CONFERENCE BASKETBALL WEEKLY RELEASE Page 3 Integrity | Tradition | Academic Excellence | LONE STAR CONFERENCE | Community | Respect | Commitment points per game and leads the team and conference with 120 assists and 60 steals. Cameron 1-1 last week. Eastern New Mexico The Eastern New Mexico men’s basketball team fell to Midwestern State and Cameron this week, falling to 0-11 in the Lone Star Conference. Against Cameron Eastern came out slow to start the first half, but managed to survive a 19-to-11 run by the Aggies and hold a two point lead going into the half, 28- 26. After an intense back and forth second half, the Greyhounds found themselves holding a two point lead with 5:45 left in the game. Both teams started to struggle shooting from the floor after that, but after several unfortunate turnovers by Eastern, Cameron started to build a lead and with too little time on the clock, the Aggies would take the game in the closing minutes, 55-47. Eastern struggled from behind the arc, going 3-for-21 from deep. While the Aggies only went 3-of-9 on three pointers, their 45 percent shooting from the floor, compared to the Greyhounds 32.1 percent, ended up being the deciding factor. Against Midwestern the Greyhounds again struggled from behind the arc, shooting only 16.7 percent from deep and 30.4 percent from the field, while the Mustangs shot a blistering 45 percent from the three point line as a team. At the seven minute mark in the first half, the Greyhounds found themselves down by 23 points to the Mustangs. Despite what seemed to be a lost cause, Eastern showed just how tough they are by cutting Midwestern’s lead in half in the closing minutes of the first period. Lawrence Domingo caught fire, scoring nine of the Greyhounds 12 points during a 12-0 run to bring the Mustangs lead back to 11 points. Unfortunately, Midwestern wasn’t finished in the first and managed to add another seven points before heading into the locker room at halftime, up 36-19. The second half saw much of the same, with Midwestern coming out scoring at will. Then once again the Greyhounds came surging back, finishing the half only being outscored 28-23. Eastern did manage to hold the Mustangs to 64 points, 10 lower than their season average of 74.9 pointers per game. For the week Eastern shot .313 percent (7-45) from three point range compared to their opponents .467 percent (12-29). John Gilliam led the Greyhounds with a combined 28 points and Domingo added 22 over the two games. Midwestern State Midwestern State split a pair of Lone Star Conference games last week falling 73-60 Wednesday night at West Texas A&M before beating Eastern New Mexico 64-42 Saturday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum... The Mustangs snapped a two-game skid at home which was the first time MSU dropped consecutive home games since the 2007-08 season... Midwestern has held opponents to fewer than 50 points four times this season including limiting Eastern New Mexico to a campaign low 42 points twice this season... MSU has struggled from the free throw line as a team over the past four games shooting 42-of-79 (53.1 percent)... The Mustangs continue to rank amongst national leaders in numerous statistical categories as MSU is third in 3-point field goal defense (29.0), fifth in field goal percentage defense (38.8), fifth in total rebounds (1000.0), sixth in rebound margin (+9.8), sixth in offensive rebounds per game (15.33), seventh in total blocks (123.0) and 11th in blocked shots per game (5.1)... Junior guard Bretson McNeal ranks 16th in NCAA Division II in free-throw percentage (89.2), 20th in 3-point field goal percentage (45.7) and 29th in 3-pointers per game (3.0)... McNeal knocked down four 3-pointers and now has 67 made treys this season -- the 11th most in a single season in program history... McNeal’s 45.9 3-point field goal percentage would rank as the fourth best in school history... Senior guard Thad Rideau matched season highs with five 3-pointers and 15 points Saturday against Eastern New Mexico... Junior guard Hershell Grant road a hot start to finish with 11 points and five assists Saturday against Eastern New Mexico. It was his seventh double-figure scoring outing of the season... Sophomore forward Trevor Fuller scored six points and grabbed four rebounds while making his first start of the season Saturday against Eastern New Mexico... Senior guard Kevin Wagner scored 10 points and dished out three assists Wednesday night against West Texas A&M before missing Saturday’s game against Eastern New Mexico due to injury. It was his second straight double-figure scoring performance... Tarleton State No. 11 Tarleton State pushed its current winning streak to nine in a row after defeating No. 4 Angelo State in Stephenville and Texas A&M-Kingsville on the road. EJ Reed had his first career 20-point game to lift Tarleton past Angelo State while four Texans cracked double figures in Kingsville. The Texans will travel to Canyon Wednesday night looking to stretch the winning streak to double figures against the Buffs at 7:30 p.m. Texas A&M-Commerce 2-0 last week. Texas A&M-Kingsville Texas A&M-Kingsville went 0-2 this week after close losses to A&M-Commerce on Thursday and No. 11/14 Tarleton State on Saturday... against the Texans, the Javelinas trailed by as much as 17 and made it a two- possession ballgame, but could not overcome their slow start to upset TSU. West Texas A&M The West Texas A&M men’s basketball team improved to 16-9 overall and 6-5 in Lone Star Conference play with two wins last week over Midwestern State and Cameron. The Buffs began the week with a big 73-60 win over MSU at home before traveling to Lawton, Okla. on Saturday and grabbing an 88-73 road victory.
