LSC FOOTBALL
Midwestern State tops the Lone Star Conference standings as the lone unbeaten team at 3-0 in league play.
This week’s schedule includes four Lone Star Conference games with Midwestern State at Angelo State, Western
New Mexico at Texas A&M-Commerce, Eastern New Mexico at Tarleton State, and Texas A&M-Kingsville at UT Permian
Basin, along with one non-conference meeting as West Texas A&M hosts Adams State.
LSC football teams are 26-24 overall this season. The squads are 2-3 combined versus the Rocky Mountain Athletic
Conference, Northern Sun Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and Great Northwest Athletic Conference teams, which
are also in NCAA Super Regional Four.

LSC FOOTBALL ON ESPN3
The Lone Star Conference game between Tarleton State and Texas A&M-Kingsville on October 21 will be featured as
part of the 2017 NCAA Division II Football Showcase schedule.
The Texans and Javelinas Homecoming meeting in Kingsville, Texas, will be streamed live on ESPN3 as part of an
ongoing three-year agreement to highlight Division II athletics events.
The first 18 games of the football showcase are predetermined matchups. Four additional flex games — highlighting
crucial matchups — will be finalized later in the football season and played in November.
ESPN3 is ESPN’s live multiscreen sports network, a destination that delivers thousands of exclusive sports events
annually. It is accessible on computers, smartphones, tablets and connected devices through the ESPN app. The network
is currently available nationwide at no additional cost to fans who receive their high-speed internet connection or video
subscription from an affiliated service provider.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
OFFENSIVE
Layton Rabb, Midwestern State University, JR, QB, Llano, Texas, Llano HS
Rabb accounted for a career-high of 332 yards of total offense leading No. 10 Midwestern State to a 47-42 win over No.
2 Texas A&M-Commerce Saturday night at Memorial Stadium. The 6-5, 225-pound junior from Llano completed 16-of-28
passes for 265 yards including scoring strikes to Xavier Land (22), Tyrique Edwards (23) and DeAndre Black (56). He
completed passes to seven different receivers as the Mustangs piled up 539 yards of offense and scored 47 points
against a Texas A&M-Commerce defense which allowed a total of 42 points in the previous four games. Rabb also kept
the sticks moving rushing for a career-high 67 yards on nine carries (7.4 yards per carry). Rabb ranks seventh in NCAA D2
in passing yards per attempt (9.66), 10th in passing yards per completion (15.13), 11th in pass efficiency (167.4).
2. DEFENSIVE
Dominic Barry, Western New Mexico, SR, LB, Moreno Valley, Calif., Vista Del Lago
Barry was all over the field for WNMU in the win against Tarleton State as he had a game-high 14 tackles, with five solo,
along with 3.5 tackles for a loss of 14 yards and 1.5 sacks for a loss of 11 yards. He helped the Mustangs tally six sacks.
The Mustangs forced a pair of turnovers and limited the Texans to 259 yards of offense.
SPECIAL TEAMS
Collin Grady, Western New Mexico, JR, P, Glendora, Calif., Glendora
Grady was big on special teams in the win against Tarleton State, as he punted six times for an average of 42 yards. He
had a long of 58 yards, four that landed inside the 20 and two that went over 50 yards. Grady had three big punts right
before halftime, pinning Tarleton State at the 18, 11 and 14. He hit on his only field goal of the game of 34 yards and also
added a touchback on seven kickoffs. Grady added a tackle as well and went a perfect 5-5 on extra points.

OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Del'Michael High, Tarleton State University, hauled in a season-high nine receptions for 121 yards and a touchdown.
His longest catch of the day resulted in a 35-yard completion.
Kamal Cass, Eastern New Mexico University, accumulated a career-high 290 all-purpose yards in Eastern New
Mexico University's Homecoming win over UT Permian Basin. He reached the 30-carry mark for the second time in the
last three games and finished with 159 yards, which included a 58-yard touchdown run. With a pair of receptions, his 54
yards was the second-highest total of his career and the most since early in the 2015 season. Cass also had 49 yards on
3. two punt returns. His performance allowed ENMU to outrush UTPB by a 380-11 margin and hold the ball for 38:30 of
play.
Luis Perez, Texas A&M University-Commerce, led the Lions in a furious comeback effort, setting a school single
game completion record in the process. He completed 43-of-55 passes for 437 yards - all career high numbers for the
star quarterback. He also completed four touchdown passes and a two-point conversion attempt. He completed 21 of
his final 23 passes in the game to help lead the Lion comeback charge, as A&M-Commerce battled back from down four
scores to cut the Midwestern St. lead to five points. Perez now ranks 2nd nationally in completion percentage and is in
the top 10 nationally in completions per game, passing efficiency, passing touchdowns, and points responsible for."
Cade Dyal, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, had a day in front of the Javelina faithful as he connected on 23 of his
29 passing attempts for a total of 249 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions. The Kerrville, Texas native was
taken care of by his offensive line who did not give up a single sack. Dyal concluded with a 185.6 quarterback rating and
tossed two TDs in the first half before throwing a 68-yard bomb to Jordan Thomas in the third quarter, extending their
margin 30-9 at the time against West Texas A&M.
Javia Hall, Western New Mexico, had an all-around solid game to help lead the Mustangs to their first win of the
season against Tarleton State. He passed for 183 yards and two touchdowns, rushed for 52 yards on eight attempts and
also caught one pass for six yards and a touchdown. He had a long pass of 32 yards and rushed for a long of 19 yards.
Hall continues to lead the conference and the nation in passing yards and passing yards per game. He also leads the LSC
in points responsible for, first in completions per game and fifth in both completion percentage and passing efficiency.
The offensive line also kept Hall from getting sacked all game.
Chris Hoad, UT Permian Basin, had a season-high 19 tackles along with a fumble recovery and a return on a blocked
field goal. The sophomore linebacker now leads the Falcons and ranks second in the conference with 13 tackles per
game and leads the Lone Star Conference with 78 total tackles in six games.
Marquis Lomax, Tarleton State University, led the Texan defense in tackles for the first time in his Tarleton career.
The junior linebacker boasted 13 tackles, including a half-tackle for a loss. Lomax led the Tarleton defense that held the
Lone Star Conference's top passing offense to a season-low 189 yards through the air.
Brad Hardin, Eastern New Mexico University, continued to lead a strong defensive effort for the Greyhounds in a
20-17 win over UT Permian Basin. The junior linebacker finished with a team-high nine tackles with two for a loss, which
included 1.5 sacks. Hardin helped limit the Falcons to four third-down conversions in 17 opportunities. Eastern's seven
sacks were the most since the 2010 season. He also contributed one of ENMU's nine quarterback hurries. The Hounds
allowed just one scoring drive of more than 33 yards in the game and forced nine three-and-out possessions.
Caleb Valentine, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, the Buffalo offense saw No. 10 running downhill all night long,
totaled eight tackles including 2.5 for a loss and a half of a sack in the 37-9 win over West Texas A&M. The sophomore
linebacker also recovered a snap that ricocheted off of the quarterback's helmet and brought it back for a six-yard
touchdown late in the first half. The Buffs offense was held to under 200 total yards in the rout.
DaMarcus Wilson, Midwestern State University, matched a career high with seven tackles, intercepted a pass and
broke up another in helping No. 10 Midwestern State to a 47-42 win over No. 2 Texas A&M-Commerce Saturday night at
Memorial Stadium. The sophomore from Fort Worth ranks third in NCAA Division II and leads the LSC with two pass
breakups per game. The interception was one of three turnovers forced by the MSU defense resulting in 14 points. It
was his first interception of the season and third of his career.
Michael Onuoha, Texas A&M University-Commerce, in a 47-42 loss at Midwestern State, made multiple big plays to
assist in a Lion comeback effort. He had 2 of the Lions' 3 tackles for loss, including a TFL on a 4th down play that turned
the ball back to the Lions for a scoring drive in the 4th quarter. He had 7 stops, with 2 TFLs and 2 quarterback hurries.
Trevor Myklebust, West Texas A&M University, was all over the field Saturday as he recorded 15 tackles and 0.5
tackles for loss. The 15 tackles marked his sixth career game of double-digit tackles and a season-high for him.
4. Sergio Sroka, Tarleton State University, supplied all of Tarleton's offense over the first three quarters as the senior
kicker from Miami connected on a pair of field goals beyond 40 yards, including a career-long 49-yard kick in the second
quarter. Sroka also made six kickoffs with two touchbacks.
Bailey Hale, Eastern New Mexico University, hit two of his three field goal attempts in Eastern's 20-17 win over UT
Permian Basin. His 43-yard field goal in the third quarter proved to be the difference in the three-point win and he
finished with eight points for the game. Hale also limited UTPB on special teams with touchbacks on all five kickoffs. For
the season, he is seven-for-eight on field goals of 30-49 yards.
Kristov Martinez, Texas A&M University-Commerce, recovered his own onside kick early in the fourth quarter to
assist in the comeback effort of A&M-Commerce's 47-42 loss at Midwestern State. He had 2 touchbacks on his 5
kickoffs. He was also a perfect 4-for-4 on PAT attempts, bringing his career total to 134, tying the Lion school record for a
career.
John Cummings, West Texas A&M University, had seven punts at Texas A&M-Kingsville Saturday with a long of 55
and a 43.1 average on 302 yards...He had three inside the 20 and one touchback as the 55-yarder started the Javelinas at
their own one yard line. For the season, he has 33 punts for a 40.6 average with a long of 56, three touchbacks, eight
fair catches, 10 inside the 20 and nine over 50 yards.
Julio De la Garza, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, led the third unit with a punt average of 42.3, planting two of
them inside of the 20. He also kicked a 39-yard field goal on the opening drive of the second half and logged two tackles
on his seven kickoffs.

Eastern New Mexico
The Eastern New Mexico football team won its homecoming game in dramatic fashion and moved to 5-1 for the first
time since the 2002 season. The defense turned in another superlative performance and allowed just one scoring drive
of more than 33 yards, and compiled seven sacks. The seven sack game was Eastern's first since it accomplished the feat
against Southeastern Oklahoma State in the 2010 season. Kamal Cass and Wyatt Strand both topped the 100-yard
rushing mark in the first half, as ENMU raced to a 17-0 halftime lead. The second half saw UTPB capitalize on a fumble
and a fourth-down stop to score 10 quick points. Bailey Hale's 43-yard field goal was the only second-half points the
Hounds could muster, but proved critical after a second Falcon touchdown cut the margin to three points. Cass finished
with a career-best 290 all-purpose yards, while Hale had touchbacks on all five of his kickoffs. The Hounds will visit
Tarleton State this Saturday.
Midwestern State
Midwestern State improved to 4-0 and took over sole possession of first place in the Lone Star Conference with a 47-42
win over No. 2 Texas A&M-Commerce Saturday night at Memorial Stadium... The Mustangs have won three consecutive
games over Texas A&M-Commerce and 11 of the last 13 dating back to the start of the 2001 season... Midwestern
improved to 12-2 against nationally ranked opposition in regular season games dating back to the start of the 2011
season... MSU's 47-42 win over No. 2 Texas A&M-Commerce came against the highest ranked opposition in program
history. The Mustangs previously fell to No. 2 Northwest Missouri (27-0) in the 2006 NCAA playoffs and to No. 2 Abilene
Christian (47-17) in 2008. Midwestern has never faced a team ranked No. 1... Eight of MSU's 12 wins over teams rated in
the AFCA Top 25 were higher ranked... Midwestern State is 4-0 for the third consecutive year consecutive season and for
the eighth time in the last 12 years... The Mustangs boast the best record of any Lone Star Conference school since 2000
at 138-54 (.719) with 16 more wins than any other league program... Junior quarterback Layton Rabb accounted for a
5. career-high 332 yards completing 16-of-28 passes for 265 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for a career-best
67 yards on nine carries... Midwestern State hung 47 points on Texas A&M-Commerce which had allowed 42 total points

on 19 carries with three touchdowns... It was Johnson's 12th career game with multiple rushing touchdowns... Johnson
moved into 12th place on MSU's all-time rushing list with 1,684 yards and is just 107 yards out of ninth... Johnson now
has 34 career rushing touchdowns which is third on MSU's all-time list behind former All-Americans Keidrick Jackson (61
TD/2010-13) and Daniel Polk (44 TD/2004-07)... Johnson leads the LSC in rushing yards per carry (8.56) and rushing
touchdowns (8)... Johnson ranks second in NCAA Division II in scoring with 13.5 points per game... Sophomore wide
receiver Tyrique Edwards caught a career-high seven passes for 94 yards with a touchdown... Midwestern State's
offensive line of starting tackles John Rowell and Caleb Brown, guards Kevin Fisher and Islam Sbeih and center A.J.
Roland have allowed 2.25 tackles for loss per game to lead NCAA Division II as Texas A&M-Commerce managed three 71
snaps Saturday. The Lions came in as the sixth best team in D2 with 10.5 stops behind the line of scrimmage in the
previous four games... Sophomore Marcus Wilkerson ripped the ball away from Carandal Hale in the third quarter and
returned it 54 yards for a touchdown. It was his second defensive score of the season to go along with a 49-yard
interception return in the season opener against Quincy (Ill.)... Sophomore DaMarcus Wilson made seven tackles with an
interception and a pass breakup. He tops the LSC and is third in NCAA D2 with 2.0 pass breakups a game... Junior safety
Sir'Vell Ford matched a career-high with 11 tackles...
Tarleton State
Tarleton fell on the road to Western New Mexico. The Texans return home this weekend for a 2 p.m. game against
Eastern New Mexico.
Texas A&M-Commerce
The Texas A&M-Commerce Lions fell behind by four scores and mounted a furious comeback before falling to
Midwestern State 47-42 in a top 10 battle... Lion quarterback completed a school record 43 passes on 55 completions
for 437 yards with 4 touchdowns and 2 interceptions... The Lions had 515 yards of offense and 29 first downs... Carandal
Hale had 9 carries for 62 yards and a touchdown... Perez completed passes to 9 receivers... D'Arthur Cowan had 9
catches for 72 yards and a score... Buck Wilson had 2 touchdown receptions and Marquis Wimberly scored once... Alex
Shillow led the Lions with 10 tackles... Kristov Martinez was a perfect 4-for-4 on PAT attempts, tying the school career
record for PATs made with 134... Martinez also recovered his own onside kick in the fourth quarter... The Lions play at
home for the first time in a month on October 14, hosting Western N.M. for Homecoming...
Texas A&M-Kingsville
The Javelinas picked up their first conference win in the 2017 season after trampling West Texas A&M 37-9. TAMUK's
defense set the tone throughout the entire game, holding the Buffalo offense to 187 total yards and recorded a six-yard
fumble recovery for a touchdown. The offense was led by quarterback Cade Dyal who was 23-of-29 for 249 yards and
threw three touchdowns in the win. The Hogs will travel to the historic Ratliff Stadium in Odessa, Texas to play against
UT Permian Basin on October 14.
UT Permian Basin
UT Permian Basin out-scored Eastern New Mexico 17-3 in the third quarter to pull within a field goal, but neither team
scored in the fourth as the Greyhounds defeated the Falcons 20-17 in Portales, N.M. Chris Hoad had a season-high 19
tackles along with a fumble recovery and a return on a blocked field goal. Mitchell Leonard had five catches for 94 yards
and Kristian Brown had four receptions for 85 yards and a touchdown."
6. West Texas A&M
The Buffs dropped a 37-9 decision at Texas A&M-Kingsville Saturday in a game that saw the WT offense struggle yet
again...WT had just 12 yards rushing and 175 passing for a total of 187, while TAMUK rushed for 167 and threw for 253
for 420 for the game...WT went 10 of 24 passing with one interception and one touchdown, while going 5 of 15 on third
down and 0 of 1 on fourth down...TAMUK held a 19-11 lead in first downs and scored seven points off WT's two
turnovers...Redshirt freshman quarterback Skyler Bonneau saw his first action in a WT uniform going 3 of 7 for 50 yards
passing and had five rushing yards on eight carries...TAMUK lived in the WT backfield, recording seven sacks in the
game...A season-high three Buffs had double-digit tackles led by senior linebacker Trevor Myklebust with 15
stops...Freshman Kailan Noseff had the lone touchdown for the Buffs as he led the team with three catches for 59 yards
and the score...Senior punter John Cummings had seven punts for a 43.1 yard average, including a long of 55 with three
inside the 20 and one touchback...WT returns home to host Adams State for Homecoming on Saturday at 5 p.m. at
Kimbrough Memorial Stadium as the team looks to end a three-game losing skid.
Western New Mexico
WNMU held Tarleton State to 259 yards of offense and recorded six sacks on their way to picking up the 38-25 victory.
Javia Hall accounted for three touchdowns, Justin Harris rushed for 92 yards and a score, while Elijah Jones and Sean
North each hauled in a TD catch. Isaiah Edwards helped seal the win for the Mustangs with a 67-yard interception return
for a touchdown. North had a big 83-yard kickoff return to setup the first score of the game and another big return led
to the second touchdown of the game when Kyle Foote returned an interception 75 yards. Hall had an all-around solid
game to help lead the Mustangs to their first win of the season against Tarleton State. He passed for 183 yards and two
touchdowns, rushed for 52 yards on eight attempts and also caught one pass for six yards and a touchdown. He had a
