LSC FOOTBALL
Midwestern State, Texas A&M-Commerce, and Angelo State remain undefeated in Lone Star Conference action.
This week’s games include a key league contest with ASU hosting MSU.
After playing six conference games apiece over the first nine weeks of an 11-week regular season, the
league’s football teams will split into two brackets to conduct a two-week conference playoff. The conference
champion and playoff seeding will be determined by regular season results.
The top four teams (No. 4 at No. 1 and No. 3 at No. 2) comprise the championship bracket with Week 10
winners playing for the playoff title in Week 11, whereas Week 10 losers will meet for third place. The other half
of the bracket includes the remaining three teams and Oklahoma Panhandle State with No. 5 at OPSU and No.
7 at No. 6 in Week 10. The 7-6 winner plays at No. 5 for fifth-place in Week 11, while the 6-7 loser hosts OPSU.
LSC football teams are 16-11 overall this season. The squads are 9-1 combined versus the Great Lakes
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, Great Lakes Valley Conference and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference
teams, which are also in NCAA Super Regional Four.

He completed 25-of-47 passes for 342 yards and
three touchdowns. His 300-yard passing day is the
first by Javelina since Caleb Bedford reached the
mark on Nov. 2, 2013 against Tarleton State. Carr’s
touchdown passes were for 38, 12 and 28 yards. He
also added a career best 20 yards on seven carries.
Le’Nard Meyers, Tarleton State University, Le’Nard
Meyers stepped up in the absence of fellow wide
receiver Bubba Tandy by grabbing nine receptions
for a game-high 146 yards in Saturday’s game against
Midwestern State. The senior wide receiver recorded
the eighth 100-yard game of his career and led all
players from both teams in the game for catches (9)
and receiving yards (146).
Trevor Myklebust, West Texas A&M University, has
double-digit tackles in each of his four games this
season with 16 coming against No. 6 Angelo State.
Myklebust had five solo stops and 16 assisted tackles
with a team-high two tackles for loss for seven yards.
He leads the team for the season with 55 total tackles
and a team-high five tackles for loss for 20 yards.
Cody Burtscher, Tarleton State University, made his
presence known on the Tarleton defense as the junior
running back-turned-linebacker recorded seven
tackles, including 1.5 for a loss and a half sack.
Cole Pitts, Texas A&M University - Commerce,
accounted for 14 total tackles including 10 solo
tackles. He also picked up 1.5 tackles for loss and a
recovered a crucial fumble for the Lions. His fumble
recovery led to a Lions score. Pitts was all over the
field halting the ENMU triple option attack. The
Greyhounds entered the game averaging 301.3 yards
per game on the ground, but were held to just 257
yards Saturday. Pitts ranks ninth in the LSC in tackles
averaging 8.3 per game.
Herb Whitehurst, Midwestern State University,
logged six tackles including 1.5 for loss and a sack
helping Midwestern State to a 63-46 win over rival
Tarleton State Saturday night at Memorial Stadium.
The senior defensive back who also recovered a
fumble on special teams played a key role helping
the Mustangs jump out to a 49-17 lead with just over
four minutes remaining in the third quarter. At that
point, MSU had limited the Texans to 176 yards of
offense before turning to reserves the remainder of
the game.
Fe’ao Vunipola, Eastern New Mexico University,
tied for the team lead with six tackles against Texas
A&M-Commerce. He also registered half of a sack in
the third quarter, to help the Greyhounds come from
behind to take the lead.
Felipe Parra, West Texas A&M University, has had
an outstanding season punting the ball for the Buffs.
Saturday was no different as he tallied eight punts for
361 yards and a 45.1 average. He had a career-long
62-yarder and put six balls inside the 20 helping the
Buffs turn field position. The Buffs are 21st in the
nation in net punting at 38.36 (all on Parra’s punts)
and he 27th nationally in punting at 41.6 to lead the
LSC.
Chase Thrasher, Texas A&M University -
Commerce, gave the Greyhounds terrible starting
position all game Saturday. Seven of his six kickoffs
resulted in ENMU starting inside their own 30 with
three of those inside their own 20 yard line. Thrasher
also had four punts totaling 162 yards for an average
of 40.5. Two of his four punts were pinned inside the
20 and a third should have been, but was misplayed
by the Lion gunners. The Lions have the best punt
return defense in the LSC and the 11th best in the
NCAA averaging only .75 yards per return. On kickoff
returns the Lions also lead the LSC, but ranked fifth in
the NCAA allowing only 10.65 yards per return.
Timothy Callian, Eastern New Mexico University,
registered seven points in the Greyhounds game at
Texas A&M-Commerce, which included a 21-yard
field goal in the second quarter. He also helped
