ASSURE Method-Friday
A-Analyze Learners: This is a 3rd grade class with 18 students. There are 8 girls in the class
and 10 boys. Out of the 18 students there are 3 African American students, 2 Chinese students,
and 1 Jewish student.
S-State Objective: My students will be able to describe specific landmarks, people, historic
facts, heritage, and culture about the Americas by the end of the day at an accuracy of 90% by
working through two WebQuests and listening to a podcast.
S-Select Methods, Media, and Materials: The students will first have a class discussion of
some of the important landmarks, heritage, historic facts, and people in the Americas. We will go
over the fact that this consists of North, Central and South America. The discussion will be to see
how much knowledge the students know before we complete the first WebQuest. I choose to
complete two WebQuests today because we finished content in all other subject areas for this
Friday because I wanted to go through both WebQuests because they are both very educational.
After the discussion the students will complete the WebQuest on Zunal. The Zunal WebQuest is
about North America, and they must create a flipbook about the specific landmarks, animals, and
climate. Once they have finished the first WebQuest, the students will have to create a poster of
something they found interesting in North America. After this is completed the students will
return to their seats and listen to a podcast of North America. The podcast lists a few important
facts that will have to be remembered by the students. Once that is finished the students will be
required to write a quick write about six things they learned from the podcast. After I have taken
those papers up, we will talk about the podcast. The students will then go back to the computer
2. lab to complete the WebQuest on Word. The WebQuest document is located on the class twitter
page. The students can easily access this and download the document. While working through
the second WebQuest the students must answer specific questions provided by looking at the
given websites. Once the WebQuest is complete, the class will go back to the regular classroom
and create a travel brochure to encourage others to either take a trip to Central or South America.
The students who did the opposite place will look at the brochures for the place they did not
create a travel brochure too.
U-Utilize Media and Materials: I will make sure prior to this lesson that both the Zunal and
Word Document WebQuests can be accessed easily. I will also make sure the podcast is playing
properly. The audio has to work for the podcast to be heard.
R-Require Learner Participation: The students will have to complete both WebQuests
because they have two important projects from each one. The students will all have to have a
completed flipbook made, a poster of North America, questions from the word document
WebQuest, and a travel brochure for either Central or South America. The podcast will have to
be listened to intently, so the students can write their quick write on five things they learned from
the podcast. While the students are completing their WebQuests, I will be walking around the
computer lab making sure they are diligently working and following instructions. If the students
cannot behave properly with a partner they will have to complete all of the work by themselves.
E-Evaluation and Revision: At the end of the day the students, one-by-one, will have to tell me
at least two things they found interesting or learned about the Americas. I will be grading the
flipbook and poster together since they were from the same WebQuest. They will be worth a
total of 30 points. I will be grading the second WebQuest separately. The questions will be worth
3. 7 points and the travel brochure will be worth 25 points. The quick write for the podcast will be
worth 5 points for the five points listed. A point will be taken off for each point not listed. If any
of these items would not work, I have a worksheet copy of the Word Document WebQuest for
the students to complete. The students would have to work in groups of four because I only have
four copies of each website printed form the WebQuest. The students would still have to create
travel brochures and answer the questions provided. I also have a hand written script of what the
podcast says. I would read that to the class and tell the class to shut their eyes and just listen and
imagine. That would be the same and hearing the podcast play form the computer. The students
would also still complete their quick write. In place of the first WebQuest I would just have the
students to read the chapter on North America in the textbook.
