Unit plan day 7
1. A- Analyze Learners
o Students are in the fifth grade. There are 24 students total, 11 of the students are
female and 13 of the students are male. Among the 24 students, one female
student has recently transferred from Japan and one of the male students has
transferred from Colombia. Both students are fluent in their native language as
well as English. Both transfer students also have thick accents.
S- State Objective
o Students will begin by locating Antarctica and Australia on the world maps
provided on the SmartBoard. Students will then visit the website
http://www.discoveringantarctica.org.uk/7a_destination.php and explore around
the site. Students may take notes on information found and may play any games
that are on the site. Upon returning to the classroom, we will make the transition
to talking about Australia. Students will watch a video that from YouTube that
includes quick facts about Australia. Students will then view a poster about
Australia that includes all of the provinces and their capitals as well as fast facts.
Students will then visit out class Facebook page for the last time in this unit to
post their questions and interesting facts about Antarctica and Australia. They
may also include their overall opinion about the unit. Students will be able to
describe Antarctica and Australia with 80% accuracy by the end of the unit.
S- Select Materials
o The selected maps have been picked from Google images. Students will utilize
the computer lab when visiting the website about Antarctica. All other activities
will be completed in the classroom. The video was found on YouTube and I
2. created the poster myself. The classroom’s Facebook page will be used for the last
time in this unit to generate classroom discussion and to get feedback about the
overall unit.
U- Utilize Media and Materials
o As usual, all media and materials have been previously viewed and approved by
me. The Facebook page will continue to be closely monitored and will remain up
and running after the unit to be used for other units for the same reason.
R- Require Learner Participation
o While in the computer lab, I will be walking around to make sure students are
remaining on task and will be asking questions to see what the students are
learning. Students may raise their hand and ask questions at anytime throughout
the lesson. Students will also be required to join in on classroom discussion via
the class Facebook page.
E- Evaluate and Revise
o Before beginning the lesson, prior knowledge will be activated by asking students
what they know about the continents we will be studying that day. Classroom
discussion will also be initiated through out the entire lesson. Questions and
concerns may be addressed at any time during the lesson as well.
