ASSURE Method-Tuesday
A-Analyze Learners: This is a 3rd grade class with 18 students. There are 8 girls in the class
and 10 boys. Out of the 18 students there are 3 African American students, 2 Chinese students,
and 1 Jewish student.
S-State Objective: My students will be able to describe specific landmarks, people, historic
facts, heritage, and culture about Asia by the end of the day at an accuracy of 90% by the use of
a storytelling video, Facebook assignment, and an assignment on Secondlife.
S-Select Methods, Media, and Materials: The students will first of all come to the front of the
room and sit in the floor to watch a storytelling video about Asia. The video is about a young girl
who went on a trip to explore Asia. The video also contains many important facts within it. After
the video is complete the students will return to their seats and find a partner. With their partner
the students will write a short script of what they thought the young woman may encounter in
Asia and act it out to the class. We will also pull my Pinterest account up on the overhead
projector to look the three boards I posted about Asia. The Pinterest information will also help
with their assignment. This discussion will help the students with their assignment. Once this is
complete I will talk to the students about their Facebook assignment. The students can receive a
copy of the instruction by getting onto the class Facebook page. The student will be asked to find
a Facebook page that has something to do with Asia and write a short critique on that page. This
will be done as a homework assignment. I will then go over their Secondlife activity the class
must complete with the help of a partner. Each group of students will create a Secondlife account
and avatar with a partner. The students will then travel to Asia and explore the three countries
2. listed on the white board. The countries are China, India, and Saudi Arabia. Once every student
in the class has had a chance to explore the whole class will have a discussion about their
findings.
U-Utilize Media and Materials: The morning before this lesson I will assure the video is
working properly. Once the students have watched the video, I will make sure they all have a
partner and are working on their little reenactment. I will be walking around the room asking any
questions that needs answering. After the students have finished presenting their script to the
class, I will inform them of the Facebook assignment they must complete. I will make sure
everything is on my Pinterest account that I want to show the students while we are having our
discussion that morning. I will be sure to check that all of the students are friends of the
classroom account and that the assignment will be able to be looked at. I will answer any
questions about this assignment if the students have any. After this, I will give specific
instruction to how the students will create their Secondlife with a partner. I will be at the
computers helping the students with the assignment every step of the way. Since there are only
five computers in my classroom, ten students will be doing this assignment at one time. The
other students will be assigned the specific pages about Asia out of their history books. Once
everyone has completed their exploring of the countries in Secondlife, the class will have a
discussion of their findings that I will direct in the right directions that relate to curriculum.
R-Require Learner Participation: The students will be required to watch the storytelling
video in class. They will then have to write their short reenactments of what they think the young
woman would encounter in Asia. The students will have to participate in the reenactment to
receive participation points. After the acting is finished, the students will have to create a
Secondlife with a partner, and explore the three countries in Asia listed on the white board. There
3. will be a short class discussion that all must participate in after Secondlife. The students must
complete their Facebook assignment at home and turn a hard copy of their word document in to
me the next class day.
E-Evaluation and Revision: At the end of the day, the students will be required to write one
fact they learned about Asia that day and turn it in as an exit ticket out the door. The students
will receive participation points for the reenactment of Asia and the class discussion about
Secondlife. The students will also receive 5 points for completing their Facebook assignment. If
the video would not work in class I have a copy of the story to read to the students in class. The
students will still be required to create a script and act it out. If Secondlife would not work, I
would either have the students to go to specific pages in their history book and as a class we
would talk about the pictures and passages, or we would pull of some information about the three
countries listed on the white board on the internet on the overhead projector. If the Facebook
assignment would not work correctly the students would be able to create, which means draw
and color, their own map of Asia.
