1. A- Analyze Learners
o Students are in the fifth grade. There are 24 students total, 11 of the students are
female and 13 of the students are male. Among the 24 students, one female
student has recently transferred from Japan and one of the male students has
transferred from Colombia. Both students are fluent in their native language as
well as English. Both transfer students also have thick accents.
S- State Objective
o We will begin by locating North and Central America on the world map that will
be projected on the SmartBoard. Students will complete a WebQuest pertaining to
North America to learn about major cities and attractions in the continent.
Students will post an interesting fact or question that they had about the lesson
today on the class Facebook page in order to generate class discussion (time will
be permitted before class to post questions and after class to post interesting
facts). Questions or facts can be about North America, Central America, or both.
Students will then watch a YouTube video containing a song naming the countries
in Central America. Students will accurately describe aspects (countries within
the continent, major cities, well-known attractions, as well as any other quick
facts mentioned in the lesson) of North and Central America by the end of the day
with 90% accuracy.
S- Select Materials
o A photo will be selected from the Internet that will be used to locate North and
Central America in the world. Students will be completing a WebQuest about
North America in a group of no more than 3 and no less than 2. The classes
2. Facebook page will be used in today’s lesson to generate classroom discussion.
Another video from YouTube video will be used for students to learn the
countries within Central America.
U- Utilize Media and Materials
o All materials that will be used in today’s lesson have been previewed in order to
assure that the content is appropriate and useful. The Facebook page will remain
closely monitored to ensure that all information follows classroom guidelines and
that only classroom discussion is being posted.
R- Require Learner Participation
o After viewing each source, classroom discussion will be encouraged. As students
are completing their WebQuest, I will be walking around to make sure students
are staying on task and to be readily available if anyone has questions. Each
student will be required to post on the Facebook page as a way for me to
guarantee participation.
E- Evaluate and Revise
o Before beginning the lesson, I will ask a few student questions about North and
Central America. Questions may include but are not limited to:
What languages are spoken?
What major cities do these continents include?
What would you like to learn about North or Central America?
