1. Unit Plan: Habitats
Day 3: Grasslands Habitat
Analyze Learners:
The students in my third grade class are between the ages of eight and nine years old. The class consists
of 25 students, 14 boys and 11 girls who are all at grade level. 2 of the students have diagnosed ADD.
State Objectives:
The students in my third grade class that are between the ages of eight and nine years old, 2 of which
have diagnosed ADD, will be able to identify what the grasslands habitat is and certain characteristics of
the habitat, like plants and animals, by looking at a poster I created on PowerPoint, looking at a Glog on
Glogster.com, exploring a Web Quest and website, and listening to a Voki. The children will also create
their own Voki for their group project at the end of the week.
Select Methods, Media, and Materials:
My students will look at the poster I created on PowerPoint and we will talk about similarities and
differences between the images on the poster.
My students will look at a glog and interact with its features. We will discuss the content of the glog and
I will ask my students if they learned anything knew from it.
After this, I will go through the Web Quest and website I provided for them on the Smart Board
together.
Then, we will watch the Voki that talks about unique things about grasslands.
Utilize resources:
Preview: I will make sure that all of the classroom laptops are completely charged a turning on properly.
I will have my poster on the Smart Board and Glogster.com already up. I will make sure that I have all of
my links to websites.
Prepare Materials- I will make sure I have everything that I need to complete my lessons for the day.
Desks will be facing forward so everyone can see the Smart Board and laptops will be available. The Voki
website will be preloaded on the laptops.
Prepare Environment- I will make sure that I have all of my notes with me when my lesson starts, and
that the laptops are ready. Each student will have a laptop available to them. The Smart Board will be on
with my poster up on it.
2. Prepare Students- I will ask my students to go home on Tuesday night and think about what kind of
animals could possibly live in the grasslands. I will have them record it and bring it to class the next day.
Provide the Learning Experience: For this day of the unit we will be discussing the grasslands habitat.
First, I will show my students my poster that I made with PowerPoint and we will talk about similarities
and differences between the images on the poster. Then I will have my students get on their laptops and
get onto the Glogster website to look at the online poster I created, so they can interact with it. Then I
will pull up the Web Quest and website that I found online and we will go over them together in class
and discuss. Then we will listen to the Voki that I made about the grasslands. After this, the students will
get into their groups and make their own Voki for the group project at the end of the week. Also, I will
offer extra credit if they create a Glog as well.
Require learner participation:
To make sure all of my students participate, I will set up a reward for them to want to participate. I will
give them a piece of candy of their choice at the end of the day. If they participate in discussion actively
and work hard on their Vokis, then during recess the next day we will do something special. I feel like
the students will want to participate, because it is interactive. If they do not include themselves in
discussion, they will get participation points marked off for the day.
Evaluate and Revise:
Student will be evaluated through their participation. If they students are participating, then they will
understand during class discussion and will add their own input. Student will get gradedon when they
interactive with me whilegoing through the Web Quest during class and while they are working on their
Vokis in their groups.
