S-State Objectives
o The students will learn about the White House and other presidential monuments. They will
view images of each of these. The students will also join me on SecondLife to view a few
monuments there. I will begin a discussion and give a brief preview of each monument. Then,
the students will get in pairs and make a PowerPoint on a monument of their choice. The
PowerPoint should include the name, why it was built, when it was built, etc. The students will
then present the PowerPoint to the class. After this day the students will be able to identify the
United States of America’s monuments with 90% accuracy.
S-Select Methods, Media, & Materials
o The students will be presented with photographs of each monument. The students will also
experience some monuments virtually through SecondLife. The students will then participate in
a discussion on the monuments, and split up into pairs to make a PowerPoint presentation on a
monument of their choice. The students will then present the PowerPoint to the class.
U-Utilize Media & Materials
o The students will obtain knowledge about the White House and the United States of America’s
monuments. The students will first be presented with photographs. Then they will virtually
explore monuments through SecondLife. A group discussion about the monuments will be held,
and then the students will split into pairs to further their knowledge on a monument of their
choice. The students will make a PowerPoint to teach the class about their monument. The
class will come together as a whole to listen and gain information about each pair’s monument.
R-Require Learner Participation
o The students will be required to participate in a class discussion on the United States of
America’s monuments. They will be required to demonstrate their knowledge of their chosen
monument by working as a pair to create a PowerPoint presentation. The students will then
teach the class about their monument to further the class’s knowledge on the chosen
monument.

2. E-Evaluate & Revise
o At the beginning of class the students will receive a piece of paper. On this piece of paper they
will jot down a fact they learned from each pair’s presentation. The students will turn these
slips in to receive a check.
