This document outlines an ASSURE lesson plan for a 3rd grade class to learn about Europe. The teacher will first use a Voki and QR code to introduce continents. Students will then watch a YouTube video about European landmarks, history, and culture. Following a class discussion, students will complete a Twitter assignment where they message 3 Europeans from a provided list and report back the responses. The teacher will test the technology in advance and guide the discussion to meet learning objectives. Students will be evaluated through participation, a quick write, and the graded Twitter assignment. Alternatives are discussed in case of technical issues.

ASSURE Method-Monday
A-Analyze Learners: This is a 3rd grade class with 18 students. There are 8 girls in the class
and 10 boys. Out of the 18 students there are 3 African American students, 2 Chinese students,
and 1 Jewish student.
S-State Objective: My students will be able to describe specific landmarks, people, historic
facts, heritage, and culture about Europe by the end of the day at an accuracy of 90% by
watching a YouTube video, desktop publishing, and completing an assignment on Twitter.
S-Select Methods, Media, and Materials: First to begin this whole unit for the week I will pull
my Voki up on the overhead projector and a QR code that I made. I will first allow each student
to come up and scan the QR code and watch the video that it takes them to about continents. I
will then play the Voki to get the students ready. The next thing the students will do is come to
the front of the room and sit in the floor to watch a YouTube video about Europe. This video
highlights many important aspects of landmarks in Europe, historic facts, and culture. After
watching this video the students will have a discussion about what they found out by watching
the video. The students will have an assignment to complete on twitter. The assignment, which I
uploaded, consists of the students searching for three people who live in Europe and tweet each
person three questions. Once the students obtain an answer they must report the answer they
received back to the class. They must also have all of the information on a word document and
have snap shots of all the answers they received back on twitter. There are five people from
Europe, which I knew of, and I put their twitter account names on a word document on my
twitter account for my students to look at.
2. U-Utilize Media and Materials: I will make sure the Voki and QR code works properly the
morning before I start the lesson and week-long unit. The morning before the students are to
watch the video, I will make sure the video will play properly. Once the students have watched
the video I will also help guide the students in the right direction of discussion to help the
students gain important background knowledge they will need to complete their assignment. I
will also make sure every student in my class is following my twitter page, and that the
document I uploaded to twitter is properly functioning. This will be done the evening before
instruction is to occur.
R-Require Learner Participation: The students will all be required to watch the video about
Europe and have a class discussion about what they found interesting or something new they did
not know. The discussion is mandatory so all students must participate. The students will then
have to get onto to the selected social media account, which is twitter, and communicate with at
least three people from Europe from the list I provided on the class twitter page. The students
will have to ask these people three questions, take a snapshot of what was answered, and write a
short description of what they learned from this experience.
E-Evaluation and Revision: At the end of the day, the students will be required to write a quick
write of one fact they found important during the group discussion after watching the video
about Europe. This quick write will be worth five points, and the discussion will be worth
participation points. The students’ participation points are tallied up at the end of each grading
period. The twitter assignment will be graded upon the students’ presentation of their answers
and the word document containing snapshots and what they learned. The total of the twitter
assignment will be worth 25 points. If for any reason the YouTube video would not work during
class time, I would start a class discussion about Europe. I would do the same as I would if the
3. students would have watched the video. I would push the students toward the correct outcomes
to help them with their twitter assignment. If the twitter assignment would not work correctly I
would allow the students to find a webpage they think is interesting about Europe and write one
page summary of what they thought of it.
