ASSURE Assignment
A-Analyze Learners: There are 20 students in the fourth grade class split into 11 girls, and 9
boys. There are 2 Muslims, 3 Jewish and 2 African Americans.
S-State Objectives: My students will be able to describe the holiday traditions of Christmas by
the end of the week long unit at an accuracy of 90% by watching YouTube videos, participating
in computer activities such as WebQuests, reading and creating a blog, and by listening to a
podcast, and watching a storytelling video about Christmas.
S-Select Methods, Media, and Materials: On Monday and Wednesday the students will watch
two videos on YouTube about Christmas. The videos will show the typical Christmas traditions
and who and why certain people believe in Christmas. On Tuesday the students will go to the
computer lab and complete a WebQuest about Christmas. On Thursday the students will listen to
a podcast about Christmas, and on Friday the students will watch a storytelling video on
YouTube about Christmas.
U-Utilize Media and Materials: I will talk to the students each day prior to their activity to give
them background knowledge. The online WebQuest activity can only be done on Tuesday
because that is the only time the computer lab is available, but I will check to make sure before I
take the students there. I will make sure the Christmas YouTube videos will play properly the
morning before the students watch them. I will also make sure the storytelling video about
2. Christmas works properly before use. The podcast will also need to be checked prior to use to
make sure the sound is working properly.
R-Require Learner Participation: The students will watch the videos, and after that they will
have a class discussion on their traditions and if this is what they do or if they celebrate a
different holiday. If a student does celebrate a different holiday they may inform others of their
traditions. The students must do the online WebQuest which will involve the completion of
provided questions and a poster activity on Glogster. The students will listen to the storytelling
video on YouTube and write a short blog on the computer about what they think of the
Christmas holiday and how it compares to other holiday traditions. The students will listen to the
podcast in class and write a quick write about something they found interesting.
E-Evaluation and Revision: If the computer lab would not be open, there is a WebQuest in
class to complete. If the podcast would not work, I will read what is on the podcast to the
students because I have a copy of exactly what is said on the podcast. If the internet is down the
students can create a poster using crayons, markers, and colored pencils. The students must be
creative. The blog can be hand written if computers are down. The questions and Glogster from
the WebQuest will be worth a total of 20 points. The blog will be worth 15 points. The quick
write in class after the podcast will be graded on participation points.
