Analyze Learners:
1st grade students
Special education students
10 boys and 7 girls
70% white 20% African-American and 10% Hispanic
7 students in the class have mild to severe ADHD
State Objectives:
Student’s will know the months of the year
Student’s will be able to list of the months of the year in the correct order
Student’s will know the seasons and celebrations associated with the months
of the year
Select the 3 M’s
The method will be small group and large group participation. This will be
most effective because the students will be doing hands on learning with
quick and effective activities
The media used will be poster boards and magazines. Another media will be
flash cards.
The materials will be art supplies, so the students can cut photos from
magazines to create a collage on their poster board that represents their
assigned season.
We will also be using string with our flash cards to make necklaces for each
month of the year.
Utilize Media & Materials:
Students will use the art materials to create their poster boards.
Students will use the art materials to create the month of the year necklaces.
2. Require learner participation:
Students will break into small groups. 4 groups total will be made, one for
each season. Students will use the magazines and art supplies to make a
collage on their poster board of pictures and words that represent their
season. They also will be required to have each month in their season written
on the poster board. Students will then do a quick 3 minute presentation to
the class about their poster board
Students will make necklaces that each say a different month. After these are
created the students will be instructed to work together, wearing the
necklaces, to put themselves in the correct order. The students are required
to accomplish this without talking, so that they are required to read the
necklaces carefully.
Evaluate and Revise:
Students will be evaluated on their poster boards; they must include the
correct months and other images and words with their season.
Students will be evaluated individually by a puzzle created by the teacher.
This puzzle will be decorated cards with the months of the year written on
them. Students must put them in order.
Teacher will evaluate the effectiveness of the lessons by the final puzzle and
by the attention paid during these tasks. If attention fades because of the
time the poster board takes, the teacher will understand that revisions need
to be made.
