S- State Objectives:
The objectives of this day are to engage the 8th grade students in “The
Hunger Games,” through presentations. Students will display their
newspaper for the class. Students will display the main events of “The
Hunger Games,” with 100% accuracy through their newspaper. They will also
hold their debate, and all groups should show with 100% accuracy the pros
and cons of a revolution.
2. S- Select methods, media, and materials
The method is group work.
The media will be videos, Web Quest 1, and Web Quest 2. Students are also
able to choose the media in which they present their projects.
The materials will be of the students’ choice. They may create their
newspaper on paper, or using digital software such as Photoshop on the
computer.
U- Utilize Media and Materials
Preview materials, students will be required to preview their own materials
to ensure they are working. Teacher will preview the recording device to
ensure it works.
Prepare materials, students prepare materials for presentations, teacher
prepares the video to record the debate.
Prepare environment, desks will be pushed to the back of the room so the
presenting students can have more space.
Learners are prepared by being sent any links necessary for their peers
presentation.
3. R-Require Learner Participation
Learners will show their knowledge through two presentations. The
audience can vote on who persuaded them more during the debate, and they
can explain why.
E- Evaluate and Revise
Evaluation will be seen as the teacher sees the presentations. A newspaper
full of the main points of the story shows students who know the materials. A
debate with quality points shows knowledge of the rebellion. Teacher should
notice if any of these points get in the wrong section, incase students had
trouble changing between groups and projects.
