Introduction to teaching Months of the Year
Assure: - 10 boys and 7 girls
- Ages 7-8
- 7 students have mild to severe ADHD
- 70% white students, 20% African American students, 10% Hispanic students
State Objectives: First grade students will identify each month of the year. A group activity
will allow students to actively communicate, teach and learn from each other. Students will be
allowed to use the knowledge of his or her group partner. Students will be placed in 8 groups of
2 with one group having 3 students. The time limit for the students is 15 minutes.
Select Media and Materials: Students will watch a 2 minute video of a song singing the
months of the year.
2. Utilize Media and Materials: The video will help the students remember the months of the
year while also getting them excited to learn about the holidays. After video, students will be
put into groups and they will be given 1 empty calendar. Each group will also be given large
print out words that contain each month of the year. Students will then arrange the months in
correct order.
Require Learner Performance: Students will participate together by making their own
calendar. Once they have placed the calendar together they will color each month by season
color schemes and they will write their name on their birthday month. Students will participate
in an activity that involves each student going around the room to each student and writing his
or her birthday on their own calendar.
Evaluate and revise: Students will verbally go over the video with the teacher. When they work
on their calendars they will be visually examined on their work, communication and
participation.
