Analyze Learners. I will be teaching the months of the year to a first grade class special ed.
There are ten boys and seven girls; 70% white, 20 African American, and 10% Hispanic. Seven
of the students have mild to severe ADHD.
State Objectives. My students will be able to say in order the months of the year, and describe
and categorize them by seasons by singing songs, doing art projects, and having class discussions
by the end of the week with 70% accuracy.
Select methods, media, and materials. My lesson will included five of the nine intelligences:
musical, visual, kinestitic, naturalistic, and hearing, and will use the following materials:
calendar, school records, paper, crayons, colored pencils and markers, clothing distinctive to
certain times of year, and music.
Utilize media and materials. I will use the calendar to first show the months of the year in
order. I will then talk with the students about the months and which season they belong to, the
holidays in each month, and using the school records, the month each of the students have a
birthday. The students will use the paper, along with crayons, colored pencils, and markers to
draw pictures that represent different months. The students will be put into groups by season and
will identify clothing items for that season. The students will also learn a song of the months to
the tune of the Macarena.
Require Learner Participation. Each student is required to draw at least one picture, contribute
to the group activity, and sing the song with the class.
Evaluate and Revise. The students will be asked at least one question during the initial
discussion using the calendar. They will be asked the same question again at the end of the week
to see how well they have improved. Participation in the other activities will also be evaluated.
Revisions will be made according to accuracy, motivation, and interest.
