“The Hunger Games,”

2. The Learner
8th grade students
Middle income level, with a few outliers
14 students from WV, 1 from Kentucky
All English speaking.
One African American Student
7 with mild ADD or ADHD
Mix of boys and girls

3. Main Objective
The 8th grade students will understand “The Hunger Games,”
what caused a revolution to start, the pro’s and con’s of said
revolution, and be able to articulate the main plot points of “The
Hunger Games”
8th grade students will also practice persuasive essays,
informally by working in groups to come up with points for a
debate. The debate will be pro-con about the revolution in “The
Hunger Games.” Students will have to use evidence from the text
to persuade those attending the debate.

4. Monday
Students will watch Story-telling “The Hunger Games.”
Students will begin Web Quest 1.
Students will listen to Podcast provided, for a list of top ten plot
points.

5. Tuesday
Students will continue to work on Web Quest 1
Students will being WebQuest 2 (See attached word doc)
Students will view “How to Debate,” video.

6. Wednesday
Students will continue work on Web Quest 1
Students will continue work on Web Quest 2
Students will create a Pinterest account, and search “The Hunger
Games,” to find a visual aid to use during their debate.
(Students may use Photoshop to edit an image)

7. Thursday
Students will hang created posters to advertise their debate.
Students will continue work on Web Quests
Students will view Blog, and discuss in comments

8. Friday
Students will hold debate, and video-tape.
Student groups will present their newspapers from Web Quest 1.

9. Use of technology
Students will use Web Quest. During Web Quest one, they may
use Photoshop to create their newspaper, or they may do it with
poster supplies. During Web Quest two they will be video-taping
their debate and posting it on the class YouTube channel.
Students will also be using podcasts, blogs, Web 2.0, and videos.
